ALBANY - If an obscure state board doesn't approve the proposed $1.4 billion Jets stadium by next month, the city and state can kiss their bid for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games goodbye, Mayor Bloomberg told lawmakers yesterday.
"It is very important that the Public Authorities Control Board approve plans for the [stadium] before a delegation for the International Olympic Committee visits New York City next month," said Bloomberg during testimony on Gov. Pataki's budget yesterday.
"Failure to do so also will quickly end the city's chances of being picked to host the 2012 Games."
The International Olympic Committee's evaluation commission is scheduled to arrive in New York on Feb. 21.
Yesterday, Bloomberg met briefly with Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, who sits on the Public Authorities Control Board and has the power to veto the stadium. Silver has yet to say how he will vote.
"I haven't seen the financial plan that will be presented," Silver (D-Manhattan) said. "At that time, we'll make the appropriate decision."
