09 Jake: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Can't wait! Welcome to the JK The longest running New York Jets podcast on the entire interweb. I'm your host Jake, and joining me, co-host, tired yawning with the voices scraggly as mine from the game last night is Justin. Justin, how you doing? I'm tired. I was up late. I can't go to sleep after things like that. Did you stay up and watch all the postcards? Yeah, I hadn't recorded. I got home. Which one do you watch? The SNY one. I watched it this morning. I did go to sleep. I did not. I can't fall asleep after games like that. I mean, we didn't get home until a little after midnight, although we did fly home. We stayed for the whole game. We ran out of there. We got home in like 20 minutes. It was amazing. That's the best part of having a game go close to wire. Everyone's still there. Everyone's still there. No one leaves. Although some people laughed and I was yelling at them. You were. That was very un-you to actually yell at people. Where are they going? There's six minutes left in the game. Where are you going? Yeah. Where do you have to be now that you can't leave in, you know, 20 minutes from now? They were going home. Well, that's unfortunate because they missed a heck of an ending. They did. And that's sort of, if there's no other lesson to being a Jets fan is in the last three years at least, starting, well, maybe not starting with the miracle, Monday Night Miracle. But damn, don't leave, man. Last year and this year. It's as if... It's as if last year never ended and they just kept going into this year for both teams because this is exactly what the Cowboys did last year. They basically lost games that they had in the bag. They shouldn't won. Like last night, the Jets had no business winning that game last night. And the Cowboys sort of just gave it to him. Romo, particularly, played pretty horrible in the fourth quarter. Like they, you know, he was on fire, and then in big spots he would just fumble or throw a pick or something. Like, that was a big play to Jason Witten, that long, like 50, 60 yard play to get it down to the floor. Good hustle by Jimbo to run down and knock him out at the floor. And then on third and whatever it was, two, three, third and goal from the two or the three. I mean really, you're up seven with like, you know, not too much time left. All you really need is a field goal there. There's no need to go scrambling around.
00 Jake: You need scrambling around trying to do too much and... Mike DeVito knocks the ball out of his hands. We recover. It's not like we went down and scored, but it took at least three points off the board. Yeah, I mean, we're getting a little ahead of ourselves, but we'll jump back into the game in a second. I'll get there. Oh, in a roundabout way. Yeah, so it was 9-11. There was? It was 9-11 yesterday. I know it was hard to notice with the... Dog sniffing, card, dog bomb sniffing, whatever. That was interesting. It was packed. Lots of people. Which is great. Carmelo Anthony was right behind us. I said that to you. I was like, Carmelo Anthony's right there. You're like, who? Yeah, I'm like, I know the name, but does he play basketball? Maybe. I don't, maybe. So that was great, you know, great big, you know, nice home opener on a Sunday night. There was lots of 9-11 stuff at the beginning. Yes, I thought we got flags walking in. That was fine. I thought it was played well. I mean, I liked what they did. I actually, for the first time in a long time, I really liked the halftime. I thought the halftime was really cool, the way they shut down all the lights. They went to concert mode. They went to concert mode. They basically built the Twin Tower bases and put the lights in them. I tweeted a picture of it, so if you want to see. It was really cool. It was really cool. You know, I don't get all the people saying, Oh, we won one for the city or one for the town. No, no, no. Please. Fine, but everybody's winning one for the town everybody across the entire country is winning one for nine Let's skins one one for nine. They all in Washington yesterday everybody lose one for nine eleven two the Giants lost one for nine It's like when you say that you know When God you know win the game they never blamed got the end no TV Johnson Well, he did why did God do him that way? Yeah, why do me that way? Why do Rex Christman throw for 300 something? Yeah, I don't know So let's talk about the game. This is clearly like a, this is a 50 minute, this is a 50 minute game and a 10 minute game. The 50 minute game, the Jets couldn't run. They still couldn't run in that next time. They were getting, you know, Sanchez was getting pressured. DeMarcus Ware was having a great game. He was. He had two sacks. He had two sacks. You know, Tony Romo and crew from the kickoff basically drove right down in lickety split. Fashion and scored a touchdown. Look at the split. They had Camardi was being covered was covering Dez Bryant until after that touchdown Then they're like, you know what? Let's put and Dez Bryant good. Let's switch that. Yeah nice, you know So the bad news of the first half was we just started getting pounded on and we started getting everybody know what it was 10 7 and a half it was Yes, but we scored. We scored. That's right. And it was perfect because we were getting the ball back and I thought, hey, we have some momentum. Right. We'll go down, we'll score again. And once we get the lead in this game, we're not going to give it up. And that didn't happen. That didn't happen at all. We, in fact, never had the lead until the last 32 seconds of the game.
01 Jake: That's right. So, you know, not really what I would like to have as a game. I mean, I love the game outcome. But if we'd lost that game, we'd all be going. There's plenty to criticize in the win. The silver lining is they won. Yes. But they won primarily because they played the Cowboys and the Cowboys look like the exact same team as they were. I think they won because they played Tony Romo. Tony Romo single handedly did two really bad, not just bad plays like you do a bad play, but like badly executed. without knowing where you are, down in distance, where the game is. It's like he just came in and thought, well, you know, whatever, I'm just gonna throw the ball. No, no, no. Dude, you're at... You don't need to do that. And like those two... the two plays, the one where he, you know, went in, he was way back scrambling around. If he had just dived on the ground, it would have been a field goal and it would have been Dunzers. But they didn't do that. And the other one was when he threw an errant throw literally to Revas like to catch where the guy was covered Revas on the bottom I think he had help over the top from the replay as well. I was just trying to go to Des Bryant and Revas sort of had him covered. But you can't do that. And if you're gonna go to get Des Bryant, Des Bryant is tall. Throw it up. Like go high. I think he was trying to back shoulder and Revas just cut right in front and said no no no no no back shoulders this time. You did that to me earlier. Not gonna happen again. So I'm happy. happy with the win, but let's discuss some of the stuff that needs to be taken care of. First of all, Sean Green, four carries in the first half or something like that? I mean... Well, they finished with ten. Ten totally. They only 26 here. They could not run. They could not run. It's not Sean Green, it's not LT, they just couldn't run. Is it an offensive line thing? I think the offensive line had a really bad game. Really bad. side. Like they couldn't run and they couldn't protect. Hunter was getting just mauled. Yeah well Weir will do that to you. Let's give him a break. I mean he is one of the best. He's the best. He's the best at that. He's the best. You think he's the best pass rusher in the business right now? As a 3-4 linebacker, I'd take him over anybody in the whole league. Okay. Alright, there's probably him and maybe Julius Peppers. Right, you know, that's a big drop off. Not a huge, but Cameron Wake. Cameron Wake maybe, but he only did it for one year. This guy's been doing it for years. He's really good at it. You know, so I don't, that I'm not happy about. You know, really the line. And you know, some of the decision, I mean, it was definitely a pass-happy offense. I mean, they were airing it out. I think that was a... Due to the score? No, I... well, yes. If you're losing by, you know, you're down 24-10 in the fourth quarter, you're gonna throw the ball. And they also just couldn't run, so... They left one. They said, hey, we're gonna just throw the ball. Sanchez with 44 attempts. That And our defense was just letting them... Yeah, defense looked like shit. They were not stopping them. I mean, it did stop them when they needed to stop them. I would say they looked better in the first half than they did in the second half. That's just me. They came up with some turnovers in the second half, but they got lucky. You know, they get turnover on the one yard line. That's unbelievable. So that's just crazy.
00 Jake: Right. Because it would have been another turnover at the end of the game, which sort of sealed it. But the defense that I thought played better in the first half than they did in the second half. Other notices other things here then we'll get on to make our I noticed yeah notices things, you know Yeah, you know LT clearly has some gas left in the tank coming out of the backfield as a pass catcher. Yep Plax go burst can play still can play still good to play He can definitely play There was Our punter is actually decent. I was upset that they got rid of Weatherford. Because the punting game is important K-1. You want, want to play field position. This guy was able to pin Dallas inside the 10 twice. So that was a really nice thing. and end. I'll say this now. I don't know if it's gonna hold true for the rest of the season, but they actually missed Brad Smith in this game They missed his tip return ability and they missed the change up The three or four plays during the game that they would throw him in on offense in the wildcat, right? They missed that Yeah, I wasn't there. There was no change of pace Thing that was going on on offense and maybe curly will grow into that in time, but Well, they did bring in Camardi as a wide receiver. They brought in Camardi as a wide receiver for one play to run like a fake end around. A fake end around. I think that's more like, there's a guy in the field that's never on the field, let's pay a little attention to him. And then they fake, you know, just a fake. And I think it was, I thought Keller really stepped up. I mean, again, between Keller and, you know, you have a Keller and you have LT, Lillian and you kind of have... Two really good, you know, safety valves, if you will. Color did this last year in the first couple weeks. I want to see him do it for a whole season. The whole season, yeah. You know, not a lot out of me. Holmes had a couple, but not a lot. And Burce had a couple, but again, not tongue. Holmes had six catches. for 70 yards. He was like the possession receiver. Right. Plaxico is more the stretch of the field. They went for it a couple times, back shoulder, throws down the sideline. One of them went for a touchdown, which was great. Yeah, when you're saying you're opening up the offense and you're, you know, you're running back has the most receiving yards, yeah, most receiving yards, it's kind of a strange thing. Well, they mixed it up. I mean, opening it up, I mean, he did throw for 335. I have to imagine that's one of his better names in terms of yeah 59% completion that's good for him. That's good He needs to be in the 60 percentage. Hey if he throws 335, I'm just gonna do some quick math times it throws that for For every game he's thrown for 5,300 yards. So, you know And if we win right now he's on page for he's on pace for 5,300 yards
02 Jake: uh... thirty two touchdowns and sixteen picks i'll take that great and uh... strong greens on pace to get like uh... whatever whatever you know you want to play that game? he's on pace to get four hundred sixteen yards we'll play that game? yeah, we'll play that game i'm sure he'll get more games than uh... more rushes than ten in most games Win the game let's talk about probably the two things by making our picks of the game our play in the game We have our play the game in our nights We have our nights in place so give me your play of the day game and your night of the game alright So I can go I'm gonna split them because my play the only in my night of the game could very easily be made by the same player. Right. But I'm going to split them. I'm going to give one play and one player, and I'm going to split them in half. So my play of the game is going to be the play that I called in the stands. It was pretty impressive. I will give you a little Nostradamus-ness. You did call it allowed to a bunch of people around you, like not just jokingly, but you said it and allowed to people, and then... It did happen. So what was that? So Joe McKnight blocking the punt. He didn't say Joe McKnight. I didn't say Joe McKnight's gonna block this punt. You said. And I didn't say that we were gonna get the touchdown. No. I said we're going to block this punt. Yes. You were like big return. I'm like no we're actually gonna block it. That's fine. So we blocked the punt. That was the play of the game because it tied up the game. and shifted the momentum completely. Let's just talk about that game. I've watched that replay. We went pretty nuts, you and I in a stance. A little bit. A little bit. We were beating each other up actually. And the person between us, we beat the hell out of him. Yeah. Um, the uh, I mean if you watched that play again, I don't know how much I've seen the play, but. I watched it on your fan vision. My, we'll talk about that in a second. But my god, that ball just bounced. And like there's times when the ball can bounce absolutely wrong. But that ball bounced right in front of him, right up into his hands. Right into his full stride. So who was just on the practice quad up until like three days ago. So you already made your season. I saw the interview with him on S&Y. He seems like a nice guy but I'm like, he's tiny. He seemed a little nervous. He was like twitching. Tiny. But great. Alright, so that's your play. So that's my play and my night. Dorell Reavis. Dorell Reavis. And here's why. So he actually got beat on a play to Des Bryant early. But then, you know, so Des Bryant had, I think, what do you have? Three catches? The game? Three catches? Maybe four? Three catches for 71 yards. He had one big 42 yard run, or 42 yard catch, against Cromartie early. where he just split the entire, and I don't even know if it was necessarily against Cromartie, but he basically just split the middle and went. Then the touchdown he beat Cromartie on. Right. And then the judge just decided... That was, I mean, Cromartie was up in his... Oh, he was in there, but he beat him. He caught the ball. He beat him. So, you know, both times Cromartie got beat on the touchdowns. He had great coverage on both.
00 Jake: Yeah, so it's not for lack of coverage. No, he was there, but either way. Then the jet said, you know what, this guy does Brian's clearly there number one receiver throughout Reeves get a cover him Yeah, he made one catch on Rebus a back shoulder, you know, the coverage was there It's just a nice catch again But after that it was done and they were in each other's face you saw it they were like fighting Yeah, they were in each other's face. I feel like Rebus got his got in his head. It's funny because that's not his game. He's very physical. But he's not a talker. He was definitely being physical with him because Dez Bryant was like ready to throw down. Oh, I wish he would. And you know, he deflected one pass that was towards Dez Bryant and then the nail in the coffin was the interception that he made where he had great coverage and in the normal just I don't know why you'd even. I don't even know why you'd even look to that side of the field in that situation, but that's my night I'm gonna give it to you know our one of our defensive captains probably had it many many times. I'm sure he has I'm sure he'll get it many many. We'll keep track of how many people get nice to What's your play I'm gonna make my play. Yeah, I did that my play could have been with the same same guy. Yeah Yeah, no, I'm not gonna do that. Let me go first and I screw you over I'm gonna do the play the play and the the night. I'm gonna make one the same Which is classical bursts and the touchdown so I'm gonna give it to bicycle bursts. It wasn't he wasn't a I mean a good game second most yards in terms of you know four sections seven to half I wonder you touched them all in the first half And you know, I think there's there's like a lot of us going well, you know, okay Why aren't they throwing to him? But there's there's weapons if those guys are good Like we've got weapons like it's not it's not I feel like in years past we we've had like a lot of guys Who I kind of like oh there are guys, but they're really not bad at anybody else. I feel like this year I think with Holmes, Burris, and we'll see about Mason. He had a drop or two that I wasn't happy about, but he also made some plays. I feel like we've got guys who, and then you throw in Keller and Tomlinson, sort of as other receivers, or student receivers. I feel like we've got some guys, and I feel like there's, I don't know, I have faith in them. And I feel like the more these guys start to do well, the more the defenses aren't going to know what to do with them. Because who are you going to cover when you have all those weapons? So, buying into practical birds, because here's a risk, right? We talked about this in the preseason. Is this an up or down? Or receiver core up or down from last year? And I said, I thought it was a little bit down. I thought you kind of got rid of... I disagreed with you, by the way. I know you did. And it's yet to be seen. in. But the numbers for for Braelyn Edwards last year were like seven touchdowns. So here's Burris first game. He's got one. So if he hits seven It's it's it's a flat if he goes up eight nine, then it's an up right for those who are curious Braelyn Edwards had three catches for 27 yards yesterday yesterday. Yeah, but he's on the shittiest just saying yeah
05 Jake: Hey, they scored 33 points and Braelyn Edwards had none of them. So So that touchdown pass was the pass that I think, you know, we're all looking for it. Although it didn't go as, you know, wasn't sort of the end, you know, over his head, kind of jumping above the corner to get it. It kind of went to his back shoulder. He had to turn around to grab it, but turned around in motion over the, you know, end zone and touchdown. That's great. Just to see that, to know that this guy's out there, I think to tell the other defenses that we are going to target him, and you better put someone on him and not just your scrubs. Because once they do that, then that means Holmes is over there too. And you know, that would mean Thomas is running around somewhere. And I think pretty soon Mason's gonna be dangerous because he's gonna have He's kind of a lot of open field to deal with. So that's my knight and my play of the game. It could have been the kick. Nick Folt getting it done against his old team. Yeah, you know he wanted that. It's not an automatic. You know, it's 50 yards and we were yelling in the stands and I think I was proven correct. But I was yelling with 40 seconds left on the clock. You have the Cowboys with one timeout, and us with the ball on the 33 yard line, 32 yard line, I'm yelling at you. Three runs, three runs, play her ball, three runs. Left, right, middle. Wherever Nick Folk wants it. As a matter of fact, one style is called their timeout. You can call yours and go ask them and say, hey bud, where do you want to kick this from? We'll put it there. And you know what if you miss it, so you miss a 30 yarder you miss a 50 yarder and you go to overtime But if you do what you did and you throw the ball and almost get it picked and then have another in completion Well, you know what you've done you've given him the same exact kick but with 30 something seconds on the clock instead of three there's a Understand I reason for trying to get closer 50 yards is not automatic. No it is not but either is 30 They're not automatic. None of these kicks are automatic. But those two, the two that he went for, I mean, they were well covered. Now it's the problem. They went one still. Although, actually, the ones were burst. He could have caught. He could have got the drop. Right. And he would have been at the 10. Yeah, that would have been a very nice, oh yeah. And he would have been at the 10. We could have done a million things. Sure. Including a touchdown. Neil, time out. Right. But I'm saying, well, he went round and bounce. He was shot to the deep butt, tied a bounce. Snap it, Neil. Time out. Done. But anyway, they should have probably just ran. No, they should have. That was sort of in hindsight being 20-20. Well, it wasn't, I'll give it to you again, it wasn't 20-20 because you were saying it before it happened. It wasn't hindsight. It was foresight. ... I do have a good foresight. It was pretty good foresight, but again, a win is a win. And realistically, we're happy about it. We're on our way to 16-0. And tonight, we're recording this on a Monday, so we're not going to do our normal go over
01 Jake: everything because we probably have to do another show. We're going to do another show later in the week. Yeah, because when we win, we like to do two shows. Yeah, because we want to talk about it a lot. Well, because next week we'll really talk about match-ups and we'll literally do all the games. In the next show we'll do the games and the Stutter Dud. Yeah, we'll do all that. Like we can't even recap our Stutter Dud because my guy hasn't played yet. Right. And my guy was a shit, he shit the bed. Definitely did. Well, now you can't pick him again, which sucks. That's true. I thought, I thought, I mean... We'll talk about all the games that happened because half the AFC East hasn't played yet. That's true. So it's like not even worth playing. The Bills are in first place. What are you gonna do? What are you gonna do? We can, on the other hand, talk about our fantasy matchup. Sure. Sure. Because you and I are in, actually we're in two leagues together. We are. One league. We split, we share. We share with another person. We're partners and in another league. Another person we should never listen to, by the way. That's right. ever. He's really bad. He's just fucking dumb. Speaking of bad, who picked Joe Flacco? That was you. And who picked, I said who picked Joe Flacco, you picked who? No, no. We picked both. Well, we have two quarterbacks on our team. We have Joe Flacco and you wanted to start, I wanted to start Sam Bradford. And I wanted to start, because I did not want to start Joe Flacco against the Steelers because he never plays well against them. Yeah. But you know what? He had a breakout game and good for him, we know for the future. Alright, anyway, let's get to the more pressing matter, which is the- It beat me by a few points. Justin's Green Men versus Jake's Bawana's Brawlers. Bawana's Bawlers. And it looks like I'm winning 101 to 93, and you have, let me see- Oh, no more players! No more players. And I look at mine and- I still have a player. What are you? What player? Brandon Marshall. Oh please. And you know what? I'm already beating you by 8? Is that 8 or 9? It's closer to 9. 9 sucks. With the decimals. Yeah. And um, so I'm gonna beat you by like 20. No. That's gonna feel good. You're not gonna be 20. You don't think Brandon Marshall will get me at least 10 blanks tonight? No. You don't think so? No. So you won't have like 5 catches? No, you really don't think so. No, you're on crack. I think they're gonna take him out again. You know what? I hope he has zero catches so I beat you by this score. That's fine. That's fine. You don't need him by this. I don't even want him. I don't think it's gonna happen. I don't even want him. I'm just gonna bench him now. Yeah, so basically what happened to me was, I mean I got hurt by who here. Well, Jamal Charles didn't have a really great game. I got hurt by Sharpe and LeGarrick Blunt. And like Garret Blunt. Oh, you really got hurt by LeGarrick Blunt who ran for 15 yards. That's probably where your downfall came. Oh and playing Jeremy Macklin instead of Miles Austin you because you're a homerness No, I thought Austin was just gonna be taken out of the game I did too, but you know what Miles Austin's better than Jeremy Macklin. So yeah, that was your homerness I'll put them back in next week. Your homerness beat you, actually. Yeah, I left a lot of points on the bench. You left a lot of points on the bench. And sprawls. I left a lot of points on the bench. I left some points on the bench too. I mean, you did leave 32 points in Ryan Fisratrik on the bench. And Kenny Britz, 28.
00 Jake: Alright, so you have more. You have 77 on the bench. 77 bench points. I'm a better team than you. Let's put it that way. For this week! For forever. Not next week, we'll see. Basically forever. We'll talk about it next week. We'll talk about fantasy next week. And we'll talk about the Jet Kingdom Pick'em, how we did during the next podcast. Yeah, end of this week we'll do one more podcast, we'll do the picks for next week, we'll do the fantasy stutter dead, we'll do the throne picks, we'll do it all. So we'll break it up, so we'll wrap up this one by saying, you know, head off to JetKing.com. By the way, we couldn't have been more wrong about the Buffalo game. Buffalo, Kansas City. Yeah. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. Wow. I you know what it reminds me that year that they beat the Pats They're gonna fit. Yep. I hope it's that year. Yeah, they start off 2-0 and then I think they won like five games Yeah, maybe why so I'm the win more games than you have that's true. I'm that's good My season production is going well and my season prediction of the Baltimore Ravens winning that division is now even better Well, they wanted home. They held they held serve at home That's all. They're supposed to win at home. Yeah. They're supposed to be Pittsburgh at home, right? You didn't take them to the... I certainly didn't. Yeah, all right. They're supposed to do. We'll come back. We'll come back to that. We'll get to all that back. You want to follow me or you want to follow Justin on Twitter? He's a Twitter genius. Although, you know, you're kind of quiet. You've got to get back into the... It's twitter.com slash justjetkingdom. I'm at twitter.com. I guess I can stop saying that. actually because everybody you're at yeah at so Justin's at just yet Kingdom I'm at Jet Kingdom we were like a little ahead of the game yeah so we had to like do the Twitter dot you were to go maybe I don't think people go to Twitter come now they have it on their phones and such and newfangled devices Facebook, we're at Jet Kingdom, so that's easy, just find us on Facebook. Yeah, love us on Facebook. If you'd like to advertise. I don't like us on Facebook, I love us on Facebook. That should be another button. Send an advertising. Should be. We should create a love button. At JetKingdom.com. And iTunes, go to iTunes, leave a review, I saw someone reviewed but didn't leave a review, they marked it as like created the idea the other day. Come on, people review with all that. People review with all that. That's lazy. Easy! and spread the word if you, you know, tell everybody else about the longest running podcast on New York Jets. And as always, until, I guess, Friday, we'll get back and we'll do another podcast on Friday. As always, go Jackets!
