12 Jake: This is the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Thursday, November 22nd, 2007. Gobble gobble. Well, welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. I'm Jake and as always across the digital aisle. I'm across the digital aisle but I don't see you this time. Oh, you want to you want to? Yeah, I'd like to see you. Okay, there I am. Your pretty face. There you are. That's so sweet. Let's just get the first thing out of the way. Let's say Happy Thanksgiving! Yeah, everybody. Yeah, happy. It's gonna be a very happy Thanksgiving. It's a Thanksgiving miracle podcast Yep, and three and we have many things to be thankful. We have a few things to be thankful for as jet fans I would say first and foremost is the The win over the Steelers. Let's get right into it It was a it was a good game I mean both of us were we were at the game and Really enjoying it. I mean what a just I guess we did everything that we did everything that we said we you know We're gonna do or I? Don't know I mean and no one thought that we'd win this game But the Jets pulled it out in the 1916 victory in overtime. I mean what a what a great thing What are your first thoughts about the game? Well, my first thought is one of your big fools came through big time. Actually, a couple of your big fools came through big time. Both Nugent and Jones both had good games. That's true. And maybe that's the difference. Your fools, they were listening. to the podcast, both of them together obviously. Yeah, obviously. And they were saying, damn, Jake hates us. Shit, we have to turn it up to beat Steelers. And maybe that's what happened. So the defense really is what stepped up. This is what we needed all season long. And we noticed a couple things during the game that may have played a difference on the defensive side of the ball. I mean, we held Willie Parker to only 52 yards on 21 attempts. That's only two and a half per attempt. That's nothing. That's huge. That's nothing. And what we noticed during the entire game and a lot during the second half was six guys in, six guys out. Six guys in, six guys out. They were fresh the entire game. Six guys in, six guys out. Every play, first down, second down, third down. It was a rotation. They brought the big fat guy, Pua, in, that we drafted in the third round two or three years ago. Finally playing, maybe made a difference, not sure.
01 Jake: And it's sad to say, but... since Vilma went down and David Harris came in, the defense has looked a lot better, particularly against the run. What are your thoughts on that? I mean, clearly the defense was the winner of this game. This game, as much as you look at the offensive stats, we got some big things in here. Kellen Clemens doing well. but not brilliantly. Like those are Chad stats. 14 for 31, 162 yards, one TD1 interception, that's Chad stats. Rushing, definitely Thomas Jones stepped it up, you know, having over 117 yards. You know, he for 117 yards? Yeah, 117. He said over 117 yards? Oh, no, no, he had Justin: That'd be 118? Yeah, it would be 117 and one foot. Jake: He was averaging about four yards per carry, which is what you expect from an NFL back. But the big news is that they gave up, I mean the Steelers gave up 100 yards to Russia, which they hadn't done in 36 games. And if you add that up, that's over two years. So really, that's a big, big thing. definitely the defense was all over me. Six sacks of Roethlisberger. How about that? Keeping Parker to 52 yards. I mean, this guy has run rampant on other teams, and yet we kept him down. I will say, as much as David Harris should get some of it, it is the off week. I think they took the week, the bye week. They went in. They looked at everything they did in the first. Um... start of the year and they took it all, they threw it in the trash and they said, alright, what should we do now? And they definitely changed the way they played. They were so much more aggressive. They had different stunts. I mean, it was just a different team out there. And as a Jet Bin, you know, let's go back to our original theme. You got to be thankful for what we might be looking at. We might be looking at a second half that is not a playoff run. It is not the miracle of the 2007 season. It is a team that can compete. And the Steelers were the second best team in the NFL and we kept them, we stuck it to them, we won, we got into overtime, we did an overtime drive. We did turnovers, we did everything you were supposed to do as a team. And it was just it was a great great game. And I, you know, let's go right on to to fools and Knights. Let's do some nice. We didn't really have an overtime drive. We should say that Leon once again on SST. Yes. Saves the day. Super Leon with the 33 yard return on a punt. Yep. I mean, the defense came up big in overtime. And then with the with with the 33 yard return from Leon, who just comes up big in these spots often. I like it. I like it. It's interesting because they were not they were they were kicking away from him. Oh, no, they They only let him return the ball one time. Yep on the kick returns the kicker turns We're like, what are they doing? They were kicking ball very high and Short and it worked for them. Yeah, because Leon couldn't touch the ball. And then once he touched it the one time
03 Jake: He boom that and he did a great job. So give me your night. Give me your night of the game. Okay, since, well, we were just talking about Leon, so I got to give him his props. So he's not my knight. I would like to give my knight to the entire defensive line, but I'm going to single one guy out, Dwayne Robertson, who is the man in the middle. with two and a half sacks In a game now granted Raffles Burger does tend to hold on to the ball a little bit That tries to make plays a little bit too much down the field tries to get run around Robertson was a force for sure because it's it's you know obvious by the amount of rushing yards that Pittsburgh had and the fact that he had two and a half sacks. So he's my knight. Yeah, tough one for knights and weeks. Good pick, good pick. I certainly you did call it during the middle of the game. So I guess I had to let you have it. I had two that I was gonna fight with. You know, it really came down to me. It came down to the offense who produced. But and it came down to Kellen Clemens. You could say well his first win of the game, his first game win. You know, against a tough team. Congrats Kellen. But he gets my you know, he doesn't get knighted It has to be Thomas Jones against the best run defense in the league against the best past defense in the league against the best defense in the league that puts up 117 yards and Really showed that this is the guy that we wanted that we wanted when we picked him up You know, he's showing that there is some upside to him because there's been games You know the games where he puts up 62 yards or 36 yards and 35 yards. You think Why did we go out and get this guy? Justin: You know what it is about him that I've noticed? Jake: It's the games that obviously when he gets fewer yards, - a. He only has like 12 or 13 carries. This is a guy who gets better towards the end of the game. So he needs, he had 30 carries in this game. Yeah, he needs to touch the ball 25-30 times. I mean, Curtis Martin was the same way, but we had no problem. Feeding Curtis Martin the ball, right? I mean Martin would have games where he just wouldn't look good and then in the fourth quarter He just run for 60 yards It would just happen like that And you know Maybe that's the way Thomas Jones is and we're just not willing to you know Rely on him that much as we did with Curtis Martin Yeah No He played very well and good bringing up Chris Martin because this was the Curtis Martin Memorial halftime special which was really great. I mean, again, we both love we could do we could do podcasts about we could do an entire season about podcasting Curtis Martin, you know, we'll do one in the offseason Curtis Martin. Yeah, he's just he's just an amazing player and amazing person. It was so nice to see him get you know, recognized ourselves there to parse actually kind of nice.
07 Jake: Parcels introducing him was nice. got booed but it was nice to have him there. I didn't boo him. Yeah I don't know why you boo Parcels. I mean maybe because he left the team because he didn't leave us in the best hands you know. That's not necessarily true. He took a team that was losers. Like real losers. We were losers and he made it like we weren't losers anymore. We were like Cincinnati to a- and, M and then you know Just... made it so that we had some sort of team identity. That's what he brought to the team. Definitely, definitely. It's great to have him. They also booed Woody. But it's just nice. And you know, again, let's not talk about the negative. Let's talk about the positive. Curtis Martin, Hall of Famer. I hope they retire his number. I don't know when they figured that out, what they do. They'd wait till he gets in the Hall of Fame. I mean, Curly, no one's wearing 28 now. Yeah, one's wearing 28 now, I don't think anyone will. And I think that'd be great I'd love to see him up there You know some of the best games have ever been at he was running the ball and it was it was just great to see him so, you know, we're I'm thankful for Curtis Martin. I'm thankful for the win against the Steelers and Let's well, let's talk about the fools. Give me just give me a quick fool again always hard to pick in a good week Really hard to pick a fool in a game that I thought we played You know really really well in I'm not really sure who I should who I should give as a fool. Mmm Let me think about it for a minute. Do you have one? I I do have I do have a fool Because I had you give you give me yours and then I'll my fool's Brad Smith because Brad Smith had to Huge drops two huge in his hand drops that would have and if you go back and watch the replay of the game There's two huge ones that they were in his hands one was in the end zone He should have had that ball another one is just you know an out. He was for a first down You know if I'm gonna pick somebody But I will say that's the guy who I expect to show up this well this day this week How about today? Today in five hours. I expect him to show up and play Probably well play above what he was doing because you know, we've always said oh he's a great this he's a great that He's a man of all seasons. Well, the The expression goes jack of all trades master of none. I'm hoping that he is a master of one of his trades He's certainly not the best quarterback. He's certainly not the best running back. So he's a wide receiver Guy, I want to see him play up to the wide receiver role and I want to see him not drop balls that he should be catching those balls especially because he's been playing on the second team with with Calum Clemens this whole time again I expect him to show up today so he's my fool of the week who's yours? I don't really even want to do this but I'll say Kottree for just having one catch for five yards. I don't even really think that that's even his fault so much that
01 Jake: He's only got one catch how many times they throw it twice So I'll just give it to him even though I don't think it's really his fault Hard to pick a fool in a game that you win where there's clearly there wasn't like a clear You know, like D-Brick didn't have two holding penalties or like, you know, it was a clean game. They played pretty good. So I'll just say Kottree for the hell of it. So let's lead us into the other. Let's talk about Gate D. Because it turned into something. Now you and I both sit up in section 335, which is right off of... Which is right off of gate D. So I have actually seen one of the one of the halftime things my brother Patriots fan found it for me Last year someone my brother was like like 20 minutes late coming back to the game I you know Patriots fan and Patriots game and he's like, where were you? And he said all is out watching I was out watching, you know, girly show their boobies like seriously He's like, yeah, around the thing. They cheer, and then they show their boobs. So like last week, but two weeks ago, I went and took a look. And I actually didn't see anything too interesting. But so I read the article in The New York Times. It's got picked up. It was on CNN this morning. It was literally on CNN I saw on the score. Oh, oh, oh. It's crazy. It's like, they're going to step up security. Well, here's the thing. This has been going on for years. And the NFL and the NFL. And the metalands and the jets and whoever wanted to stop this all they had to do shut down the thing and have enough people out There and they could have shut down anytime they wanted easily easy had the people there Justin: And they let them do it Jake: I see the girls four feet away from the girl the the guys in yellow jackets so point is they've let this happen That's point one point number two This stuff goes on everywhere. It goes on in Mardi Gras, it goes on anywhere you go. In every stadium, there's always the show me your, you know, whatever and they do it. And girls do it. I've seen it in every stadium. Whether there's a place that, you know, some girl could stand up to, I've seen it everywhere. Just because it's organized, it doesn't mean, or not organized, just because it's in one place doesn't make it worse than everywhere else. and If you're a girl and you don't want to do that, don't do it. Don't go near it. It's like going down to Mardi Gras and standing on a float or something and saying, oh, I'm being harassed because people were asking me to show my boobs. Yeah, seriously. Don't go to the Mardi Gras. Don't go stand on a float. Don't go stand in the balconies. Don't ask for beads. I mean, it's kind of tradition. I will say it's a little grimier because it is a bunch of drunk fans. But again... Yeah, but Jake, it's... you know how the Metallands is. There's the... at Gate D, there's the spiral on the left. Right. There's the spiral on the right. And the one on the left is where the commotion happens, and the one on the right is pretty much empty. So girls, go to the one on the right! Right. If you have to go to a spiral... During halftime for whatever the fuck reason yeah, cigarette go down to the mezzanine to see a friend whatever
05 Jake: Go to that one yeah If you're growing to the one on the left, and you see a bunch of guys screaming J. ETS. Jetch. Jetch. Show me your tits and You don't want to show your tits Go the other way. I totally agree. I think this is blown up and I you know, I almost want to ask Oh, you know New York Times and I don't have the person's the writers or reporters But why why now? Why is that important to write about now? There's so many things going on, you know Just one game or something and just saw it for the first time. Yeah. Oh, come on But it's like why do we got a write about this is wars in Iraq? There's you know Crises is there's like this is the big thing that now that the the media is picking up on again every team out there it's such not a big deal please please media please media Alright, thanks media get off get off the tits. Alright, alright, let's go on to let's go on some more important things Let's go on the game today. We got a game happening today Certainly do short week jets for I don't like I you know, okay, I'll be the first to say that this is a treat and It's like a blessing and a curse and a blessing and a curse. Like it's like two blessings and two curses. This I hate to play today. I get to treat to watch. It sucks that we have to go on the road like we had a late game on Sunday. So what do you how do you practice? Like Monday, you can't practice. What do you you don't have any time off Monday? I guess you go watch a ton of film. and then Tuesday you walk through and then Wednesday you have to travel and then today you play like how do you practice for this game there's every there's every chance that the Jets will just be too tired and not be able to play in this game or not be able to be effective but uh you know it does bring up uh It seems like they could do a better job, especially with the flex. They did flex them even later. And they flexed them from a 1 o'clock to a 4 o'clock game last week. Seems a little cruel to have them play a 4 o'clock and then literally, four days later, play another 4 o'clock game. Oh, it sucks. Maybe that 6 and 6 out on defense thing was to keep them fresh for the. I'm serious. They were coming off a bye. They didn't have to. You know, they were fresh already. So... Maybe he was doing that looking forward and now he the reason why I say it was a blessing and a curse and a blessing and a curse Is then you know, we do have a nice long week to prepare for our next game after yes Well, that's true. Oh, that's although that's the game That's the game that I'm not sure we need a nice long week to prepare for but we can talk about that week next week Yeah, that'll be. I mean, Dallas is a really good team. They clearly are, they're not as good as the Patriots. They're not as strong.
01 Jake: They have incredible players, but they don't seem to be able to dominate. They get in holes sometimes. Their defense is not sticking it to teams like the Patriots are, but they're certainly a very good team. I mean, they're not being... They're not being blown out by other teams. Having Terrell Owens there is huge. Having Whitten there is huge. Obviously, Tony Romo is playing out of his ass and is a great player. He makes plays like that's what they, he just makes plays. Like he'll go down, look like he's going to get sacked and then throw the ball. The question is, did the Jets have the defense? I think we can score points, but the Jets have the defense to keep Terrell Owens from scoring four touchdowns I mean, this is what he did in the last game. What? Yeah, very big test for Reavis. Yeah huge Well, I think more than Reavis we got to get to Tony you give Tony all the you know Give Roma all the time and he whether you get to him or not you have to contain him You have to prevent him from like those are Robertsons gonna have a big role in this game Yeah, you have to prevent him from like Dropping back standing there standing there and then running like forwards because he tends to like drop that kind of fire Run a little bit like to the left or the right and then run forwards and make it look like he's running up the field And then boom he watches it over your head for like 30 yards He's a lot of people compare him to Brett Favre I like to pair him to Jeff Garcia because I think he reminds me more of Jeff Garcia when he was really good with San Francisco and to me throwing the ball to Terrell Owens so maybe that helps the comparison along but to me he's one of those guys that can make every throw, can move and avoid the rush so you really have to just Contain him more than anything. Yeah, and again, I think they'll be able to score points It's just a matter of can we keep up can we make a game that stays close? You know we do have the brothers the brothers battling off we do have jujo versus T Joe or Tojo Jewish Jones and his brother Thomas Jones playing they've played before they played against I think last year the Dallas played a Chicago So they've played together. I pretty cool to be able to play against each other on Thanksgiving. That is very cool And it's very nice like the whole family is probably gonna be there. Oh, absolutely So other than being able to contain I mean I think I basically if we're the team will played last week if that's that same team if they if they didn't forget that They were a good team We can win this game and we can keep it very close and go down to the wire and maybe win by two or three, kind of like a field goal kind of thing. We're not going to blow anybody out. We're not going to just take anybody out. Cowboys are going to be able to score. I see this as a
00 Jake: 29 to 27 score. Jets 29, 27. When? Jets are gonna win. Jets are gonna win well you know I'm kind of a homer so what do you think? Well the odds makers seem to think that the Jets should be getting 14 points. Yeah. You have them winning by 16 then. Yeah. No, no, no, no, no. 29 to 27. Oh yeah, well 16 with the Dallas points, yes. I don't know. This is gonna be a tough game. The safeties are gonna be challenged quite a bit here. Rhodes and Elam. They're gonna have to... They have their hands full with trying to help out on Tio and covering Jason Witten who's one of the best tight ends in the league So it'll be interesting to see how we can shut this team down if we can shut this team down So my score is gonna be 2413 Dallas Alright, okay. You're speaking against the jest. That's how thankful you are. What do you see about New England? New England has a 21 point spread over the... Yeah, that's pretty awesome. Give me a score there. What do you think? Give me some thrown picks. 42.10. 42... I don't know, I think, you know, McNabb's out in that game. You could ask me who I thought was going to win. Yeah, I'm not even asking you. I don't have to ask. I'm going to go higher. I'm going to go 51 to 9. 51? 51 to 9, yeah. They're not even going to score a touchdown. Is that a three field goals or is that a field goal, a touchdown and a missed two point conversion lead? That's three field goals. And do we have anybody else playing? Buffalo's playing. Oh, they're all playing. They're all playing. Everybody's playing. Thank you for watching. My weeks are done, my friend. Miami's playing on Monday night. OK, Pittsburgh. I think Pittsburgh is pissed the fuck off. Yeah, this is the East and they're going to stomp on Miami. I see this as a really thirty eight six or something along those lines. Yeah, I don't see anything good. Ricky Williams is now back practicing with the Dolphins. That's a whole nother byline, but we don't have enough time this week. But let's go. I don't think they're going to 38. I think that dolphins can get to them. I see like a 20, 24, 17. Pittsburgh. Yep. I think they'll keep it close. Pittsburgh's going to be, again, short week for Pittsburgh, coming off a bad loss. I don't think they're going to go dominate anybody. And then Buffalo Jacksonville, Jacksonville's been playing really well. Buffalo has not been playing very well. I see Buffalo going down in this game. Jacksonville is gonna get to them and hurt them with a big run game. This is a 27-10 game. Oh, I disagree completely. I think Buffalo, it's gonna come back off of that disappointing, more than disappointing loss to New England.
00 Jake: What'd they lose? 56-10, I think? Buffalo on Sunday night. So I think that they're going to come back with a little pride here, a little buffalo pride, and win this game ugly. 13-9. All righty. Well, there's our thrown picks for the week. We have one last thing to do. And that's a shout out to Matt, who's a. Big poster on the website now. Welcome to the Kingdom. Again, if you're out there and listen to our podcast because we know you are, stop by JetKingdom.com and post in the forums, register, vote in the polls, let us know how we're doing. And otherwise, why don't you give me your final thoughts for the day, for the Thanksgiving? Justin: What's the last thing you're thankful for? Jake: I'll be thankful if we win. I'm thankful that we're just playing, actually. I've never watched the Jets play on Thanksgiving, and I think it could be fun. And it will free up my Sunday to just enjoy football again. I won't have to watch it, you know, feel all jittery, watch an eject game, I can just relax. I can watch the giant game, I can watch whatever other games that are on and just enjoy so I'm thankful for that. So true, I'm thankful just to have happy, healthy family, good fans, hopefully. Justin: Oh, you mentioned general, I'm happy for all that stuff too. Jake: Yeah, yeah, nice try. Nice try, you're out. That's Justin, I am Jake. Happy Thanksgiving and as always, Go Jets! 🎵 Thank you. You You You
