11 Jake: This is the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Monday, November 26, 2007, episode number 15. Check one, hide. Well, welcome to Jet Kingdom Podcast episode number 15. I as always am Jake and across the digital aisles I have. This is Justin. Hey Justin, how are you doing? Justin: I'm doing fine. Thank you. I was waiting for you to say I'm doing great. How was your Thanksgiving? My Thanksgiving was okay. Food was phenomenal. My father does a great job, he cooks. Food was great. I was, for the first time, looking so forward to the football games, because obviously the Jets were playing. I don't think I ever want them to play again on Thanksgiving. Jake: Well, it was 22 years to get to this point, so I probably were not going to see them play again. Justin: I don't want to see them again. I've got to be honest. Regardless whether they won or lost I didn't like it it like I I could not Dinner was served at like five and I was like not even I didn't want to be around Then I didn't want to I didn't I as a matter of fact I took my food and went back and sat down next to the television. I did not want to it was like I don't know, I don't want to interrupt my Thanksgiving with a game that I must watch. Yeah, clearly you don't have the right system. Jake: I, knowing that the Jets were going to play at 4 o'clock on Thanksgiving, told my mother-in-law, well we'll be having dinner too then, and she, being a good mother-in-law, said absolutely, and the rest of the family, uh, kowtowed to my wishes. And we watched the... we didn't watch the first game, but then we're... I set the T-Vuo to go. We made it home, like, around 4.30. Because, you know, I figure if I'm T-Voing it, I turned off the NFL in the car, so I didn't hear it on the way back. Made it around 4.30 and got set up and started watching, and then the shit hit the fan. Justin: Yeah, it was awful. Jake: Because the jets got sp... Spanked. Smoked. Justin: Like a turkey on Thanksgiving. Yeah, they, I mean that's a tough spot to begin with. Yeah, you know what? And then, I mean, ugh, it just sucks. Jake: I've had some thoughts on the game since. I mean I was so mad after it and it just, it did sort of not sit well and I didn't, didn't even really want to watch the second game, I mean. but Afterwards, I think that my feeling about it, I came back and, you know, just to recap for those of you who don't know, the Jets lost 34-3. Justin: And, yeah, I was really- How could you be listening to this and not know what happened? That's true. That's true. That'd be really sad. Like, if you just listened to this podcast as your only avenue to the Jets, like, you didn't even watch the games or nothing, just listen to us.
06 Justin: Maybe we're that good. Yeah, you're from England or something. Jake: I think the thing that really got to me later was the Pittsburgh game. This was not fair for the Jets. I'm not saying that they would have won if they had a week or two weeks or ten weeks or if they had a year. I mean the game you know might not have gone that different but It was clearly painful as a jet to be playing until 7.30 at night on Sunday and then literally flying down and playing on Thanksgiving with maybe one day's worth of practice after just playing an exhausting overtime game. I mean, just brutal. So I'm going to give the collective jets plus, well I'm going to give them a pass. I'm not going to get into the, you know, rave. or rant, plus we didn't think they'd win this game anyway. If you look back at our picks in the season, we didn't think they'd win this game. So in that they didn't win it and we didn't think they'd win it and it was on Thanksgiving and after a brutal game against Pittsburgh, you know, I just think it was Callum Clemensing in an arena that he wasn't ready to be in and it was our defense and in an arena they weren't ready to be in. This is kind of a team that's not that good. It's not good enough to beat Tony Rowneau and Trello Owens. So let's see some of the recap stuff. Everybody looks poor if you look at it. Thomas Jones. Who was this? Justin: Off Son of a Bitch? Who? So. Marion barber. Oh, yeah. Yeah, he is fuck. He's a beast. He is a He is a tough tackle. Yeah, he's a real beast. He's tough to stop. I don't understand. I mean They beat the crap out of you for fourth quarter four quarters. I mean they start Jones but You know, Barber gets just as many touches, if not more, per game. And he runs better. He runs better. And he's a way stronger runner. I mean, they just beat the shit out of you all game. Whether they're winning by blowing you out or not, they're running the ball down your throat. Jake: Yeah, so Mike Nugent's the only one who scores in the game with a field goal. Kellen Krenz... That a boy, Ooch. ...goes 12 for 2,742 yards in an int. Thomas Jones runs 40 yards on 17 attempts. I mean, ugh. Lee on Washington didn't anything. He actually fumbled the ball on a kick return. I mean, it was just, it was all over bad. You know, a couple plays I'll stick out, just so he has some good plays to think about. One was the Chris Baker catch, that one-handed pop-up catch by himself. It was really key. He's got good hands. He actually had another catch for a third down. Alright. uh... that was really key came across the line all it didn't make the test and the ends and when he was indians on the team out to catch it but that probably wasn't his fault
01 Jake: so uh... actually just go right to my night chris baker is mine and the week if i have to give it uh... i'm giving it to chris baker i will i i i i did i i was watching the game and he stood out as the player who like i mean it may be to go the defense he could give it to someone there uh... But he really, he made some plays that I thought, geez, those are the plays that you really want a guy to make, and everybody else didn't make any plays. So, I'm giving my night to Chris Baker. Who would be your night for the week if you had to pick one? Justin: Hey, it was a tough one. Let me tell ya. I was watching this game, and in the fourth quarter I was thinking about it. I was thinking, well... Who am I going tonight this week because not one of these players deserves it? I thought long and hard. I looked at the stats. There was nothing that stood out at me. I decided to just give it to Reavis. Just because he was defending Owen's all game on his own. And Owens only had 65 yards and that one touchdown pass was for a chunk of those yards. He was kind of shut down before that. And I feel like in a year or two, Reavis gets to that ball. I'm just going to give it to him just because, even though they scored 34 points, but we only scored three. So I couldn't give it to anybody on the offense. Reavis, you got lucky and got knighted this week. All right. Lucky night. Jake: Lucky nading. There was a couple people. I mean a country in that country the Baker I thought about or We're giving it to a roads with the interception in the end zone. That's quite fairly well You know he always he always but he did nothing else besides that that that attack that interception me really nothing else No chance to rest. The offense did nothing, so then the defense was basically on the field the entire time. If you look at the time of possession, Cowboys had 37 minutes to R-22, so that just means our defense was on the field that long. And of course, there's always a side that says, well, if you want to get off the field. world. get off the field, right, make a play. But I thought they were doing really well in the beginning. Again, the one big score that the Cowboys had to kind of put it out of the way was an offensive or a defensive score where interception comes through the interception. So I don't know. And then for my fool. Cool. This is tough because I'd love to give it to Thomas Jones again. On Thanksgiving against your brother and you only run 40 yards, I'd love to give it to
02 Jake: him. There were drops too. McCarren's had a drop. Contry had a drop again. Brad Smith I think had another drop. I mean, they're just not playing the wide receiving corps, not— good. But I think I'm going to have to give it to Kellen Clemens. You know why? I say rookie, you've won a game now. You've shown us what you can do against the Steelers. So then to come back after that and to play like a really poor game where he just didn't show it. And it wasn't so much his throwing. Because I thought throwing was okay. It was really just decision making in the pocket. I think he suffers from that I think I'm too fast kind of thing where he thinks he can get out of the pocket faster than he can. Instead of throwing it away and instead of just taking the dump off or something that he tries to run it and twice he tried to run it and the guy caught up to him within two steps. He pulled it down and he started to run and the guy just swiped him down. and Justin: Am mocking him. Yeah video chat right now. I am mocking him Yeah, and I'm giving him two fingers and then I'm putting two thumbs down to his fool and I'm defending Yeah, you go ahead. You cannot say that the The guys fourth start ever. He doesn't have good pocket presence He does guys don't have good pocket presence in their fourth start in the NFL Nobody does nobody has good pocket presence go watch anybody's fourth game And you'll see go watch Peyton Manning's first season. He had no pocket presence It just doesn't happen like that You know it takes a guy like a whole season to get the flow get the speed of the game down And now you're gonna go back to Baltimore his first game And say he had no pocket presence in his first game. Yeah, that's kind of unfair. That's like That's like, I don't even want to bring any analogy to the table. I mean, that's, that's crazy. Jake: You don't want to, you can't. Come on admit it. Justin: I can, I just don't want to. It's ridiculous. There's no point giving it to anybody like you know singling somebody out So I'm just gonna single him out and I'm gonna say Justin McCarrens you suck He brought you in to play a number two receiver role you've been limited now to like a number three or four and We're missing our number one guy and you have to step up and do something and you have two catches you suck You drop balls, you suck, so you're my fool.
03 Justin: Alrighty. For good speed. And forever. Forever? Forever. Jake: We have another game to play. Well, let's talk about another Kingdom's, because actually we're recording this on a Monday night and kickoff's in about 26 minutes, so we'll definitely get done before then. But um, oh yeah. So But so we actually have a game work in the middle of a week here. There's some really cool games yesterday I mean Denver collapsing against Chicago. Why does anybody kick it to Devin Hester anymore? Justin: I don't even understand why I don't people don't kick the Leon Washington. Why would you kick to? Devon Hester I know the only thing and if the Jets played the Bears in any sort of meaningful game and if we kicked one okay I can understand kickoffs like trying to um squib it or kick it high and like kicking it to them because you can't kick it out of bounds but on a punt on a punt the one time they tried to kick it out of bounds it was blocked and they couldn't even pull it off I know a punt Just punt it out of bounds or straight in the air. Jake: You can't do anything. You might as well just go forward on fourth down. That's what I'm saying. At that point, you might as well just go forward on fourth down. Um, so, and it, yeah, I don't know. That was crazy. Justin: He scores too often. Jake: That was a weird game. The Patriots, man, I don't know. They got tested. They got tested by a team and... Justin: They got pushed for the second time this season. They got really pushed. Jake: By Philly and they scored two they scored 14 of their points on defense You know two picks for run back touchdown. They didn't dominate in offense like there's so that's a nice nice nice little note Justin: Cuz there's no it's there's a weakness there. You know, what's really interesting about that game It's almost as if Philly came out like without their main players from that Super Bowl, TO and McNabb. And if you remember back to that Super Bowl year, Freddie, Freddie Mitchell was getting a lot of a whole lot of playing time. Yeah. Or air time in the media. None of those guys are around at this... Well, McNabb's around, but he didn't play. And they played their hearts out. It's almost like the role players from that Super Bowl wanted to avenge, you know, their loss. They felt slighted, because all it was about was like, you know, T.O. and McNabb and... They went out there and they played their hearts out and it was a really entertaining game to watch. Jake: I only watched half of it because I fell asleep. But, um... I heard it was... I don't think I'll watch that much of this game tonight. But anyway, you know, that was good and Green Bay played a good game. I mean, Indie came, stood up and won a game. You know, it was a good week. It was fun because... My game was already over before Sunday started, so Sunday to me was just about watching football. And I spent the entire time, because I'm not a sucker like you without, you know, a
18 Justin: dominate like oh Jake: Minnesota they they really took it to the Giants you I'm in I love when they had Tiki Barbara on the Sunday night show saying That one of the weaknesses of you I which he basically just said out to everybody to now take advantage of was that you I Doesn't does not do well when you pressure him straight up the front and everybody's done well against him Just goes right up the front for him right down this throw and then if you do that he'll start throwing errant throws and boy did they uh man minnesota never thought minnesota when that came without agent peterson and yet they do so that was the other kingdoms that's some good stuff we got uh we actually have a game coming up against someone who's playing tonight and uh what's happening tonight which is the interesting thing is ricky Williams is a starting running back again for the Miami Dolphins. And if he doesn't test positive tomorrow for marijuana, he will play against the Jets next week. Oh, that's so cool. So we have a game coming up. This is usually the game and a half. This is the game that we look forward to for weeks and months in advance. Justin: I'm looking forward to it. There are two things I want to do this season, accomplish this season before it's Obviously before it ends. I want to beat Miami again, which we can do this week. Keep them undefeated, or not undefeated, winless. I want them to finish the season winless. And I want to help that happen. Want to beat the Pats I want to be the only team that beats pads I want the past finish 15 and 1 and I want us to beat them in a couple weeks So those are the two things I want to happen in the rest of the season We can accomplish part 1 phase 1 if you will We can finish that this coming week. Jake: Yeah, a couple of interesting notes in this game. You know, we're good to see the, we'll get to see him tonight, we'll get to see him again next week. We get to see John Beck, their rookie. They picked up in the second round. Remember, this is the team that passed on Brady Quinn to go on number nine, which no one understood why. They picked up Ted Jyn Jr. and then they picked up a... Josh, I'm sorry, John Beck, who's going to be the starting quarterback tonight and next week. Justin: This is their Kellen Clemens, if you will, right? Yeah, it kind of is, except he's starting a little bit early and he has no Chad. Well he didn't have, well yeah, he didn't have anybody in front of him or a mentor or anything like that. But, you know, we passed on a guy in the first, we could have picked. a quarterback, you know, instead of deep Rick, but we didn't. And we picked a guy in second round. I don't think we could have had Vince Young.
01 Justin: I think we could have had liner if we wanted him. That's true. I guess we didn't. So we went with Clemens in the second, but this is a second round pick, you know. So I don't expect to see much out of him tonight. I expect him to not have very good pocket presence Oh not very good, you're gonna get him that Yeah, I mean, I'm gonna see that right now. Tonight and next week I think. I mean really against Pittsburgh Jake: They're gonna, they're pissed. The only thing is that we beat them, right? They're pissed and They've had a little, they've had a lot of time to think about that game. They're back at home Yeah, this is a game that they're probably gonna get creamed Justin: I mean, they're back at home like like they weren't at home when they played us. Jake: They weren't at home when they played us, they played us at our house. Yeah, yeah right. It was like 50%. Oh yeah, sorry. Justin's referring to the fact that the stadium was half full of steel or sands at the sheds. We kept joking that it felt like Steeler Nation had showed up. The Steeler Sands like retarded or what? They were my Justin: favorite thing, yeah. They would make a lot of noise when their team had the ball and it was like third and two. They would get really like loud. Like the opposite of what you're supposed to. Jake: Right, they'd be waving their towels and I'd be standing up with them because I'd be cheering on our defense and then I'd be like, come on, Steers. And most of them would, they'd stand up with me and they'd all cheer their fly. And I thought, you're cheering. The road, you don't want that. No, you want to shush. And they controlled half the stadium. They could have been quiet. The whole stadium would have been quiet, but never mind. So, you know that, so what do you see for next week? Let's go to our throne picks and uh... We're gonna make a pick? What do you see for your uh, what do you see for, yeah for next week? For the dolphins? Give me your pick. Justin: Jet dolphins. Jet dolphins. All right, um, it was easy for me to pick the winner of this game. I'm taking the Jets to win. OK, good. Because it was tough to pick the score, but it was easy for me to pick the winner, because the Jets have this long week now, which as I was saying last week, it was like a blessing and a curse. Now we're seeing the blessing part. We have another, almost like a bye week, we have a long week to prepare for. to be honest, a crappy team. So we have a long week. They have a short week which hurts them because they're crappy enough already. And they're going to be a good team. Well, they're going up against us. Jake: No, I mean, Pittsburgh, they're coming off a game against Pittsburgh, which is not going to be an easy, easy win. They're probably beat down. So yeah, oh, yeah, they're going to get their ass kicked. Justin: So but I think. Oddly enough, I don't know why. I see the score being 1917. Don't ask where I came out with that. I don't even know why. I think it'll be like 1910 in Miami. It'll score meaningless touchdown right at the end of the game or something. Jake: Yeah, I'm gonna go. I think we're really... I don't know. This is the team I think we can just romp on. I don't know why, I don't think the defense is good anymore. I think there was a team- Justin: Maybe it's because they haven't won a game yet.
00 Justin: Yeah, maybe that's the reason. Jake: So I think we can actually get up into the 20s, like a 26, and then we'll keep them to something like... Like 12. Six. We'll keep them- no, 26-12. That's what I'm saying. That's the final score. It's gonna be a beat down from the- down. So what do you think about the Pats Baltimore? Give me a throw and pick on that one. You got the New England. Justin: Yeah, the New England's gonna have no problem with Baltimore. Philly at least has the assemblence of an offense, even though they didn't have their starting quarterback. But I'll take Philly in the Philly offense over whatever Baltimore is going to throw out there in the Baltimore offense. So 3813 New England because nobody stopped Jake: Yeah, I think I think Baltimore is gonna play above and beyond they're gonna play a Philly game, but they will not win It'll be 30 to... geez, I don't think Baltimore can score very much. 30 to 13. And... and score. And nothing. And then Buffalo, Washington, again, Buffalo... Should've been the last two games. That's true, they really have been playing poorly. And Washington's been sticking it in there but got beat. Right? Didn't think I beat yesterday. Justin: I'm scanning the scores and they lost to Tampa Bay. I think that they're going to come home to Washington. Buffalo is reeling right now. I think it's a close one. I'll take the Redskins 2017. I'll go closer but I'll go 24. Jake: but washington wins twenty four to nineteen so i keep it in close those are thrown pics for the for the week and uh... i think that's about it we got another fifteen minutes to kick off on this monday is beautiful monday night let's see what this break does support miami dot now having settled of course Justin: sole pissed off for how could they not be like really pissed off after losing to the Jets. I mean they're gonna be pissed coming back to Pittsburgh. Jake: And if you're pissed about us or anything you've heard today or any one of our 15 podcasts, you can do a couple things. You can send us an email at podcast at JetKingdom.com. You can all read it. We promise. We promise. I promise. You can go to www. It's in the show notes every day
00 Justin: every time. Oh, sorry I said that. He already does that folks. So look in the show notes. It's in the show notes please. In the show notes. Jake: Search for it in the show notes. And that's it. That is the end. Do you have any last moments, last thoughts for this long week until... Oh by the way I'll be down at the game so enjoying the warm and sun. Yeah, be there. Enjoy that. That's awesome. Yeah, this is one of those win-loser draw. I'll be in the warm. It's 80 degrees down there. It doesn't even matter. Justin: You should go down there. Jake: I stay in South Beach. Nice. Justin: And the fans find you. Will you make yourself accessible for the Jack King fans? Jake: There will be a signing at News Cafe on Sunday morning at 11... No, no, no. I do eat at the News Cafe, but if you can pick me out, maybe you can... No, no, no. I love it down. I mean, it is kind of... Because we can go down for year after year, it's... It's just a lot of fun. It's just so much fun to go down there in the warmth and to go out at night and to hang out and and it becomes like a second home because you know where everything is. You know where the bars are. We go to the Clevelander on Saturday which is where all the Jet fans go. So there's a huge crowd of Jet fans on. at that place which is on South Beach on Saturday night and then Sunday go to the game and go to Pro Players Stadium and it's usually filled with green as much. Oh the thing for this game if you are listening or paying attention this is actually gonna be a throwback for the Jets. The Jets are gonna wear Titans again. They're the Titans jerseys. I know so I'm gonna bring down my Titans gear that I got so at least I don't have to wear it just once a season. And that's it. So as always, we appreciate you being out there sticking with this poor team as we muddle through this year. We better things await us. Muddle huddle. And as always, as we end off, let's go Jets. You You You
14 Jake: You You You You You You You You You You
