03 Jake: This is the 58th episode of the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Wednesday, November 25th, 2009. Happy Thanksgiving. Justin: of the women. Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. As always, back from the depths of sickness and San Francisco, it's Jake. And joining me, still sick, but also back from San Francisco, So, is My good friend Justin. Justin, how are you doing? Justin: I think people go to San Francisco to get sick. I think it's the homeless. They're just everywhere. There are a lot of homeless in San Francisco. And they're willing to touch you and put gross things in your face too. Jake: Yeah. So sorry. First of all, let's start off with a big apology to our listeners, our fans. Our constituency. our constituency are our great great people of the jet kingdom nation which doesn't make sense no it's just a kingdom it's just a kingdom uh sorry but last week uh i'd love to say that we were just uh aesthetically overwrought by the loss against jacksonville um but the fact of the The only thing that matters is that both Justin and I were on a business trip. Separately, but equally on a business trip at a conference in San Francisco and so could not get our acts together with the Justin: Timing and whatever to get a podcast. So what you're saying is that the Jack Kingdom podcast is not our main source of Income and and our life is not dedicated to jacking.com I think I'm saying that. Jake: Don't let anyone else know. Hey, you want to quit our day jobs and become Jet Kingdom podcast all the time? You know how to do it. Start getting your friends to follow and get 50,000 more followers or subscribers and I think we can do it. So, we are back and we are better than ever. Or some of us are better than ever. I'm actually just at the end of a cold and Justin is I think is... Just surviving or worse for wear. He's having his first Z pack. He's very excited about So we're gonna do you know first the agenda as always talk about we're gonna talk about the last two games We're gonna kind of you know a little bit on the Jacksonville game And then a little bit on the New England game because they're absolutely painful Then we're gonna talk about a couple of the news items. There's lots of news about the Jets right now as we sit here on the dawn before Thanksgiving, or the evening before Thanksgiving.
01 Jake: So we'll talk about those. We'll talk about our thrown picks from two weeks past, a week past, and then we'll go ahead and pick the games coming up this week, starting tomorrow with a triple header, and then pick the AFC East with scores. And then we'll fish it off with a word from Wisdom from the Tweeterverse. And then we'll let you get onto your turkey day, alright? So let's do it. So let's talk about the Jackson, the Dear Jets, who hosted Jacksonville Jaguars. I don't want to... No. Oh. I thought you were saying no like they didn't actually host them. No, I don't want to wait. I can't even remember back. Suffice it to say. So this was an interesting game because, all right, well I'll talk about it. This was an interesting game because the Jets were in a position here and so were the Jaguars of actually making kind of a push towards the playoffs. And this was the game to start it, right? both the same record and had the ability to, if winning this game, had a ability to kind of make a role. And in fact, as we talked about it before, if the Patriots had lost on Sunday night, as we looked at this game before it happened, we said, are the Patriots lose to the Colts? Oh, that's never gonna happen. And the Jets win against the Jaguars. you know the Jets and Patriots would be going up against each other for first place in the NFC East. So yeah, one part of that came true and that the Patriots on the fourth and two call lost the game. Thank you Bill Belichick, but thank you. I don't know and the Jets lost 24-22 in what was probably one of the most heartbreaking It was one of the most heartbreaking games I've watched because we had the ability to win that game and all we had to do Is stop them on one run which again The thing that's killing me about this team and not this last game against the Patriots which we're talking about in a second But the game this game and four others like it Bill's game Miami game One other thing I'm forgetting is that we're losing on the last possession of the game. Like, we're not getting destroyed. Like, in some ways, just destroy us now and again. I want to be beaten like the Raiders. Because, like, this is killing me as a fan. Like, having that hope and seeing the score go 22... You know, whatever thinking we can win we could oh no four seconds left the game. No, no, he's not gonna do Oh my god. He stopped at the one yard line. No, we can't do that. I mean just painful So I don't want to give away I'm trying to think if I could give away fools and we're not giving away fools and and and plays the game for that game. Let's just suffice to say that game sucked. But if you want a game that sucked harder than that game, hey, fast forward one week to the, uh... Justin: Let's go to the really shitty game. Jake: Yeah, I will say, after losing the Jacksonville game and spending a week in, or, you know, five days in San Francisco,
03 Jake: which in some ways was, you know, a nice way to get away from New York media and all that... I didn't expect to win this game. I'm sorry, but our team is not good enough to win this game. And yes, if we had sat on a podcast last week and you had asked me, are we going to win? Yes, I would have predicted we were going to win. And yes, I would have given the score that was like 21 and 1 and 1.5 to 20. But everything in my body was saying, god, we're just not going to win this game. We're just not. We're not a good enough team. This is a better team. They are firing on all cylinders. they can put up points. Oh yeah. And, you know, it's not that we lost the game, it's just how we lose the game. Again, if we just lost it from good old fashioned being whooped, it'd be one thing, but... Well, we sort of were whooped. No, we turned the ball over five times. Justin: That's being whooped. But that's whooping yourself. No, that's being, that's being beaten pretty well. When we turn other people over, we don't consider that a bad play by them, we consider that a good play by us. I guess. So, no. That's called getting your ass kicked. That's called the other team is far better than you and your rookie quarterback, sorry, are not going to beat us twice. Right. You know, we saw you once, we now have tape of you, and we're going to kill you. Also, this little fast guy in the middle named Wes Walker, he wasn't there in the first game either. And as well as Julian Edelman played in the first game, not Wes Walker. And he killed us. Wes Walker put up 192 yards. He killed us. He killed. Averaging 12.8. Killed. He was in, he was uncoverable and I think that that's one of the reasons why we'll get to one of the news stories that we're gonna talk about in a few minutes, but killed us. Nothing happening in the middle of the field. Wes Welker just dominating the middle of the field. There was any time Brady wanted to go back. Walker Walker Walker and it's great. You got Reavis out there on moss awesome. That's great that you can free him up Free up the secondary Who the fuck cares if you can't cover the other guy? It's like stupid Jake: It's like why didn't I put three guys on him? Just leave Reavis alone? The other thing is how much you put two guys on moss and put Reavis on Walker, you know yeah, double up moss and just put Reavis on Walker and said Reavis your job because Clearly no two guys can cover Welker, but two guys can cover Moss. One over, one under, and you know, he can maybe... Ugh, man, it's just brutal. So let's talk about some of the sort of things that happened, you know. Sanchez threw four picks. Do you know what happened? Justin: The offense lost the game. This was not on the defense even though they gave up 30 some odd points. They got put in really bad spots and they made, they made, let's see, we won the, we won the coin toss, we deferred.
07 Justin: We said our defense is going to go out there. Three and out. Boom. Get the ball back. Don't score, whatever. Give them the ball. We get a turnover. Boom. Oh yeah. Defense. Hey! 3-0 and a turnover. Shipps Moroni. Yep. We get the ball back. We're in good shape. Pick 6. I mean, come on. You can't do that. That is what you can't. That's the game. The game is over at that point. I mean, it's like... That's it. No that wasn't the game. No I think that is the game. It's like we are defense is gonna play well enough to turn you over and go three and out and this and that. Oh and then the kids gonna just throw a pick six. That kills the team. Jake: Kills it. It's so demoralizing. So let's talk a little bit about you know the Sanchez factor. So you know I've been asked because I'm a jet fan clearly and because I wear my green on the outside I bleed green but I also wear it on the outside. You know a lot of people work talk to me about it and so I've had more than a few conversations this week. and sort of the summation is, so, how's that Sanchez kid, right? Too early, came out too early, should've stayed, see? We told you, God, you picked, you know, why do you put all your money on him? You should've put him on another player, or God, you could've picked up a bunch of players. But here's the thing. Could've had Vernon Goulston. Could've had two Vernon Goulston's. Here's the thing. Going into the season, I was realistic, not like you who was nutso and thought we were going 10-6. We're not going 10-6. I was realistic. I thought this is an 8-8 season and this rookie quarterback is going to do rookie things. At times he's going to amaze us and I think he has. He's done some stuff that we feel like, I can't believe he did that. That's great. We are so set with this guy And then there's been times where he's just shot the bed in three games. Basically, he shot the bed, Bill's game, Saints game and this game, right? If you combine those three plays, I think that's four, five and four for his interceptions and those three games alone. So clearly he's playing up and down, right? He's not playing consistent ball. But that's what we thought. Like, I thought he was going to do this. I thought he would do amazing things. And here's the real point. I want to see what he's got left. Now is the time. We're in a basically losing season. Yes, we could have a winning season, meaning we can pull it back over 500. But this isn't a playoff. This isn't the Baltimore Ravens of last year. This isn't the Falcons, your Falcons of last year, who sucked now. By the way, let's go back to the tape, too, because both Baltimore and Baltimore and Falcons are struggling now. That's okay. So, yeah, I'm just saying, because, you know, sometimes you can strike it hot, and sometimes,
00 Jake: you know, sometimes not. But here's the thing, I want to see what this guy does for the rest of it. I want to see him put together, and the whole team, as a team, put together... a three sided game in that the offense plays well, the defense plays well, and the special teams play well. And I'm not talking play lights out, I just want them to play well. Because I think if each one, there's enough talent on each one of them, enough coaching, whatever. If each one of those just played well, I think we can win any game. But it seems like at any given time, two of the three will play really well. Sometimes two of the three will play great, but then one of the three will shit the bed. Completely. Sometimes the defense won't be able to shut down a guy to, you know, the wildcat. Sometimes the special teams will allow a guy to run back twice for touchdowns. Sometimes the offense will be throwing picks left and right and won't be able to run the ball. So it's To me, it's, you know, I want to see so and what I'm really looking forward to and the reason I'm a fan and the reason I will still go to games and I'll still watch games and you know, I'm even insane enough to drive up to Toronto to watch a game is I want to see them progress. I want to see them get better. I want to see I want to see what Sanchez does with his lessons, right? What does he do? And how does he turn it around? And that's sort of what I'm looking to see. Because if this team can't turn it around from now until the end of the season, I have really bad hopes for them in the future. Bad feelings. If this team does, and we see some hope, we see some things, say, They pull out some games maybe win against indie or we do some stuff that really shows that this team can play on consistently Then I look at next season as this is a season that we we have a real shot of doing something special Let me ask you a question. Yep a Justin: little trivia question for you Peyton Manning his rookie season started all 16 games as a matter of fact the guys The guy is amazing. He started every single game since he's entered the league in 1998. Just pretty amazing. No, just a little anecdotal stat there for you. Jake: How many picks do you think you threw? I think you threw like 21 or 22 is the number I think in my head. It's actually 28. Justin: 28, that's close to 2 a game. So I mean even arguably one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, certainly one of the greatest of our time in this last 10 to 15 years, through 28 picks in his rookie season. So. The fact of the matter is, I mean, I'm not gonna call Mark Sanchez Peyton Manning, um, because I don't... that's just stupid. Uh, but, you know, the kid needs to, you know, live this out. Now, I'm gonna go a step further and say that I think... that Schottenheimer's done after this season. Oh clearly. If Sanchez doesn't come around by the end of this season and he has about six more games,
04 Justin: if he doesn't have... If he has another game like this and he throws up four complete stinkers in his rookie season, Schottenheimer's got to go. I mean he never played. I he never he's He never did anything with this offense this offense since he's been here has has I mean the word explosive Has never really been used He had Brett Favre last year to play around with I know for the first part of the season they were okay, but then it always seems to be very predictable and very... I don't know. Gotta go to me. Because I've been here for five years, not impressive. Jake: I agree. I mean he's certainly, well he's also the only guy left, right? I mean other than Westoff, which clearly we're not firing Westoff, he's the only guy left around who he didn't just hire. So if you're looking for someone to blame, the guy, the last guy standing, he's gonna be it. Not firing Rex Ryan because it's his first year. You're not firing, you're not saying it's all in Sanchez because he's a rookie. You're not saying it's the defense because they've been playing well and they're based on a brand new defensive coordinator. uh offensive line played well great running game i mean if you're looking for the problems it's somewhere on the offense um i mean i was tweeting with a whole bunch of fans during the Justin: game and somebody i'm sorry i don't remember who it was you know who does sanchez go back to the bench and and talk to at this point. Oh, I think it was Tom Shane. Tom Shane, good for you. Because we were talking about Chad Pennington. Yeah, like who does he now go to the bench and and Chottenheimer never played, I mean he didn't play. He wasn't a quarterback, maybe he played somewhere in high school or college or something. Kid is, he's a kid. You know, Pennington was like his age. Yeah. You got Kellen Clemens over there who's played in like eight games. And you got Ainge who's... who's a rookie himself. Whosey got to go over there and console with her, look at the... look at the... that, you know, those... those Polaroids and say, hey, this is what is the deal. I know, because I've seen this and played against this like last year. Uh, you know, there's no one there to do that with them. And that's a shame. I mean, I don't know who... I don't even know who their quarterback coach is, but... I'd hire Chad Pennington next year as a quarterback coach. Fuck backup. quarterback coach. Jake: Come on. I'm in the back up. I don't care. Yeah, I think it's clear that Sanchez needs, and again, it's not even, I think it's not even the coach. I think that's the thing. There is something about the having the veteran quarterback back there, not to coach you, but to sort of, you know, mentor you. You don't want to coach because the coach is, you know, it's a little bit of fatherly stuff going on. There's also some boss. It's your boss.
00 Jake: I think it's much more he needs somebody who can help him not from a coaching standpoint but from a, hey, listen, I've been there. So, you know, and kind of from a... perspective. And so I agree. Something's got to happen. They've already said it. Let's call getting in some other news. But let's call our Play of the Game. Give me your Play of the Game and your Fool of the Game for the New England game. Justin: Well my Play of the Game. Every time we lose, I always have two plays of the game, the good play and the bad play. So the bad play, which is the real play of the game, is when Sanchez threw the first pick six after the Jets defense caused a turnover to bring some momentum on the road. Pick six, boom, down seven nothing after you really should have scored some points. So that's my play of the game, but we want the positive play of the game. It would be the block punt and recover for a touchdown. It gave us a little bit of a momentum, which actually turned out to piss me off. I'd rather have had us lose 58-6, like I said, as opposed to coming back and having a shot there. That was like being sucker-punched right to the gut. Jake: Who of the game? Mark Sanchez. Alright, you usually don't give it to the quarterback, but okay. Yeah, I'm not going to give a bad play of the game because way too many picks up. I always do that. Um, special. I am. uh... i would give us i'll give a good split play game you know that uh... you know he'd always on the pic six came back and when marks and chest through the deep past jay koch in the in the end zone now again we went up to fourteen the actual support that point but uh... was it fourteen twenty four So you know there was a light, there was this piece you thought something could happen there. I think it had a good game. And I'll give, you know, I'm starting to see a little bit too much of the drop sees on the Braille and Edwards. And you know, there was a couple that were in his fucking bread basket that he should have caught. One that was an easy first down, like it was a game stopper. Justin: Yeah, I could recall one. I think it really dropped. The other one, I don't recall him dropping any- Passes in this game, but he did it was just one that one. Yeah Jake: Well, you know ones enough again for the rookie This is the thing a rookie quarterback needs is a guy with sticky hands, right? You need you need the plastic Oh burris need to be able to put it anywhere and have that guy go All right, I'll get it for you. You know, no problem, buddy That's not happening. Khatri is that guy, but he's not, he doesn't have the full talent. Edwards has those talents, he should not be dropping any balls. I am really interested to see those two work together for a full year. Like if we could get the, if we'll see what happens with the contracts, whatever. But if those two work together for a full year
00 Jake: and you have them actually get on the same page, that could be very dangerous. Justin: Braille and Edwards better not get a huge contract because he doesn't really deserve it. Thank you. Jake: No, he probably won't get a huge contract. But I mean if he gets states at the point where he wants to stay and whatever. Alright, well let's talk a little bit about the news. We got some news coming on. One thing, I mean big news is, well first news is that Rex Ryan has said that he's going to start to take a little bit more. offense. That's clearly an indication that Schottenheimer is not doing a great job. I think it's interesting. I don't think it's that interesting. There's also a lot of backlash. Justin: It's kind of a non-starter, I think. Shouldn't the head coach just... have an interest in the offense. Jake: I mean, all right. Yes, yes and no. Because I've said on this podcast, and I said I've liked that. And again, you know, winning is everything and losing is the opposite. But I've said on this podcast and said, you know, I really like that Rex is not trying to do what he doesn't know how to do. He's just doing what he does, which is defense. But clearly, he's a rookie head coach and he's making mistakes on all sides of the ball. The defense is good but not great. They seem to have really great games but then give up a bunch. I think more interesting is the is is Rex can hear and they hey enough is enough and we've had you Know we had David clowning telling some fan on Twitter to go kill himself Because he didn't like what he said to him and I said we've had David clown he won't stew on Twitter Justin: and he responded not so nicely He was really going out dancing or something. I'm like, concentrate on football. He's like, dude, we have a life, you loser, blah, blah, blah. I'm like, oh, David Clowney, not so nice. I'm your fan. Just trying to say concentrate on football. Well, that's what we want to hear about. Not you going out and dancing. Jake: Yeah, yeah. Well, that's interesting. And then now that Rhodes has been, Mr. Kerry Rhodes, Mr. Twitter himself, I wonder, I have not been actually watching to see what he's saying. Yeah, he's been kind of quiet. He's been benched. Well, I think this is an interesting thing of how both of us work in the sort of interactive social media stuff as well in our real day jobs. But it's interesting to see how the Twitter Not so much Facebook, but really Twitter has changed some of how the fans interact with players, how players interact with coaches, how the NFL interacts with both of those. How as fans, we like it. We like, oh, we love to see them in and out and doing stuff in the Twitter and tweeting. and hey I can tweet, you know, Kerry Rose and Nick Mangold. But then I think there's a subside to that that says Yeah, I don't want to hear about them going out and partying and going to the club dub dub and ripping it up And you know I don't want to hear them talking about stuff when they just lost and you know as a fan you take it so
05 Jake: You take it so personally that's almost like why? What do you? What are you doing? You know, we're four and six. You shouldn't be going to the club. You should be going to the study room And it's interesting because Marc Sanchez has a Twitter account, of course, but if he tweets once a month I don't even know I mean I haven't gone to his page in a while But I don't think he does and like if I saw him tweet like after the game being like going to get some ribs I'd be like get the fuck back to the room and watch some more tape dude you don't need ribs. Someone's gonna break your ribs. Yeah exactly just got hit in the ribs. Because that's how I'll personally take it. Anyways what do you think about the the Kerry Rhodes uh you know the guy has kind of been Justin: uh, coasting on his, uh, his gear that he had like two or three years ago for the last couple years. I mean, he's been average and his stats show it. He has no sacks, he has no picks, he hasn't done anything in this offense where safety's sort of rule. Um, you know, you see a guy like Ed Reed in this offense in Baltimore just kind of dominating. get picks everywhere and guys like Jim Leonard are playing really well in this defense and and You know, it's maybe it's just time for a little shakeup It might it might just be a one-week thing where it's just to get get him, you know Get him motivated again to the point where he understands well maybe I should stop doing Caracosuit commercials with Steve Smith, which by the way are the cheapest fucking commercials I've ever seen in my life, and start getting back in the film room and working on my game. Because, you know, Kerry has this year stepped out a little bit into, you know, he's been doing... you Shows on SNY and the whole Twitter thingy so popular and he was he's been all over the place as more of a star but not on the field So I think this is a little message. It might not even be you know, I'm sure you'll see him on the field plenty but it might even only be a one week thing but we'll see I don't mind it I think if you if you start off 3-0 and you're 4-6 and you bench a guy well then there's probably a good reason for it you've lost five of your last six games and may as well may as well I shake it up. Let me let me ask you a question actually on that would you rather be? the four and six jets or the four and six titans Jake: I'd rather be with four and six titans right now the four and six titans of the four and six jets well only because Mind you they started 0 and 6. Or the 6 and 4 Broncos. 6 and 4 Broncos. Well I'd rather
07 Jake: be a 6 and 4 Broncos because they're 6 and 4. That's interesting. I think the problem with the... the problem with both teams, although one starts from last year, one starts from this year, the Titans suffered from 13-3 right? They were 13-3 last year. And everybody expected them to you know come out and dominate and then they shit the bed So then they're kind of like the down then they had the whole shakeup and the putting in in in Vince young who? You know, I like that he's playing well now, but man this guy's had more ups and downs than I don't even know who They want your coffee Yeah, the Jets have this have sort of the opposite, right? They were okay last year But she had the bet in the last the end of the season Brett Favre basically do a whole shake-up of everything and then people kind of didn't expect them to do Sorry more than You know eight wins hind wins six wins. I had about ten. Um, yeah, that's why you're so wrong But anyway, the point is that then we won three games in a row, and then we looked like God's children, and then we were going to the motherland. Justin: That's why I'm asking, who do you want to be? Six and four and six. Jake: I'd rather be the Jets because I think our long-term upside for the Jets is higher and longer and bigger. I think the Titans are old. They're old on defense. They've lost players. We've gained players. Their coach is kind of maybe towards the end of his thing, even though we'll see what happens. Ours is towards the beginning. And their rookie quarterback is someone who's kind of... He's not a rookie, my friend. Well, yeah, but I don't think he's that good. If he's not a rookie, then he's not good. Then I think that he's he's he's not gonna make it. Justin: I don't I don't understand why you say that about him. He he made the playoffs his rookie year actually. Jake: Yeah, and then he was so bad last year he got injured. And they just two years ago, he got injured last year. Last year he got replaced by last year. He got injured in the opening game. Justin: I don't think so. Yes, no. He got replaced at the third game. Last year he got injured in the opening game and they replaced him. Jake: What was the year that he, it was his sophomore year that he had this horrible year and he started just crying on the sidelines or something? Justin: I think that was last year. Jake: Okay. Whatever. Justin: We're. I'm a little off. The point is, I'd rather be the Jets. You'd rather be the Jets. Jake: I think this is the one I thought this would happen this season. So I'm not totally down in the dumps. I didn't think we were going to be 13-3. So when we're sitting at 4-6 with a chance to get back to 500, it's kind of where I thought we'd be. Justin: You know, Titans rather they would be 10 in 6. Titans. No, I'd rather be the 4-6 Titans. Why is that? Because you're a Titans fan now? I'm a Titans fan. I've always been a Titans fan since the 60s.
04 Justin: You can take that one to the bank. Because they won 10 in a row last year. Jake: Okay. Then they shot the bed in the playoffs. Justin: What I'm saying is, if you could win 10 in a row last year, you could win 10 in a row. Jake: And then you could lose 6 in a row this year. Yeah well. I think that's even worse. It shows that your team really is a paper tat paper Tigers Like I'm going to be the Colts who always or ain't know of course you'd rather be the Colts I don't want to be the Titans who are up and down and whatever I don't want to be the Jets who are up and down. I want to be consistently good football Justin: You don't have that choice right now. Yes, the Titans or the Jets. I don't want to know very good Jake: I don't want to go. All right, let's move on moving on Let's have our throne picks. All right, so two weeks ago. I think we did okay. I kicked your ass Two weeks ago last week. I kicked your ass three last week Two weeks ago we tied so last week. I think we're now maybe four and three or something like that Justin: I'm I'm gonna find you one week. I'm up one Jake: So let's go for this week. Let's see what's going on. Let's go down the games. We're going to pick the game by game. All right, let's do it. I do not want to score for these games. I want to score for the AFC East Games. All right, let's do it. Here we go. Quick and snappy. All right. Green Bay Packers at Detroit. So we got three Thursday games. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving, everybody. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. We got three games, always two of course will be the Green Bay, it will be the Lions and Cowboys, right? That's correct. So we got the Green Bay Packers against Detroit, who had an amazing win last week against the Browns. Phenomenal win. Stafford looked great in that game. Justin: And lucky for us this Thanksgiving, the Giants are playing at. And, uh... At the 8 o'clock game or 8 20 so those of us in the New York area without direct TV And without the NFL Network will actually be able to see this game. So Thank you. Thank you NFL. I know you don't give a shit, but I do know I have Well, I don't so thank you NFL. I'll be able to watch this one on regular television. Anyway, Detroit comes off that huge win. Green Bay lost a couple key starters on defense in the last game and a short week on the road. I'm gonna actually pick Detroit to win this game. I know it's called Pepper, but still. Jake: Yeah, no, Detroit's not gonna win this game. I mean, Green Bay is bad, but they're not that bad. Huh? Good. Uh, Oakland at Dallas. Not a fucking chance, Oakland. Not a fucking chance. Oakland won against Cincinnati last week. Good for them, they're not winning two in a row. Dallas has scored 14 points in the last two games. At home, Thanksgiving, not a chance for Oakland. Justin: Go ahead, pick Oakland. I agree. Go ahead, try and talk me out of it. Jake: All right, here's a tough one. Late game Giants who went for the last four games in a row
02 Jake: and then won one, although barely, go onto a team that was off to a huge streak at 6-0 and then have lost the last four in Denver. So what do you think, Giants at Denver? Justin: This is going to be actually a win. the game of the day. Um... Jake: Because the other two together ones have lions and raiders. Justin: Yeah, that's true. They shouldn't just put the lions and the raiders against each other just to get them out of the way. Why didn't they do that? Yeah, I don't know. Anyway, I'll take the G-Man out there on the road. Just because I don't know once a team gets on this slide like this if they can really... Stop it and the Giants did last week. So I'll pick the Giants Jake: Yeah again, I don't I don't agree. I think Denver like all these disagree Denver at home short week for the Giants to travel out there I think Denver they need a win badly just like the Giants Dean won four weeks ago or last week I think they'll stop their losing streak and maybe start the Giants is next losing streak of the Giants then play Cowboys at home. So then they then they play the Eagles at home. So it's interesting Cardinals head to Tennessee. Yeah Justin: I'm gonna stick with Tennessee until they lose I'm gonna keep keep riding that Chris Johnson train because he's Jake: Yeah, I'll pick Tennessee in this game. Let's go Chicago Bears in Minnesota. I'll take Minnesota in the dome. Yeah. Agreed. Minnesota wins. F.A.R.V. continues its domination. Fucking shit. What is that? 21... Justin: 21 touchdown's three interceptions this year. Yeah. Fucking shit. That is an indictment on Mr. Sean Naira. No it's not. Jake: It's an indictment on, I don't even know what. Cults. Maybe it's the Meadowlands, the wind. The Cults at Houston. I'm taking Houston. I'm gonna pick Cults. They're winning badly. I mean they're not winning strong. They're winning by two points, one points. They've gotta lose one of those games. Houston's no good. It's a good idea to have a I think Colts can beat them. Justin: Houston's one of those teams that is schizo. Sometimes they're good, sometimes they're bad. Jake: The Colts defense is better than they look. How's that? Tampa Bay at- Justin: Does Bob Sanders play more than three games? Or does he just show up in the playoffs? Jake: Tampa Bay at Atlanta. My Falcons. Four Atlanta Falcons who really suck. Justin: They don't really suck. Jake: They don't really suck. out. They're not doing well. Justin: Well, they're okay. No. What do you mean no? They're five and five in the NFC and if the playoffs were to start today, they'd be in Jake: the... They lost the last two in a row. Two in a row. They lost the Panthers. Yeah, they're not good. So what? Justin: The Panthers are four and six at this point. Jake: Okay. Do you think they can be the 10th of eight bucks?
01 Jake: Yeah. Thank you, Michelle. Yeah, I agree. Redskins at Philly. Oh, this is a Schizo team as well. Justin: Yeah, but Washington stinks. I gotta pick Philly at home. Jake: Philly's good at home, and this is usually when Philly starts turning it on in terms of they get better. I liked that 35-yard run by Mr. Vick the other day. Seattle Seahawks in St. Louis. Justin: What a stinker this is. I'll take Seattle just because. I think Boulder's out, so why not? Jake: Yeah, Seattle's really really bad, but I think they could probably beat them. Let's go Cleveland. Here's the Battle of Ohio. Cleveland Browns who are probably the worst team in the league. Justin: Offensive Jug or not. Jake: And against the Cincinnati Bengals who just lost to the Raiders. Justin: Unfortunately for Cleveland, they blew their entire load for the rest of the season. this past week by scoring 30 some odd points. So I'm gonna go with Cincinnati being really mad at home losing to Oakland. Yeah I like Cincinnati losing to Oakland Jake: because that shows listen. Yeah. Doesn't matter who you are. Don't take this team too lightly. Yeah but I think Cincinnati rebounds and then wins this game. Although I could see Cincinnati going on a huge skid too. The bungles. I'm gonna pick him this week. Justin: Let's go KC at San Diego. San Diego's starting to roll. San Diego's playing well. They will win. Jake: Jacksonville Jaguars who are now in competition, well I guess if we're out of the playoffs we don't care. Justin: Jacksonville Jaguars at San Francisco 49ers. Yeah this is a tough game. I think this is going to be one of those really low scoring beat the crap out of you games. And I'm going to pick San Francisco to hold out in the end. Jake: Yeah, this is one that I actually like. I picked 49ers but I would switch if I thought about more. Switch. Do it. But I won't. Do it. Um, Steelers at Baltimore. Tough game. Steelers who lost to KC last week. Justin: Yeah, knocked me out of my uh... And Baltimore who lost to Indy. This is why I don't do survivor pools ever. And I got roped into one. You got to week 11? That's pretty good. I roped into one this year and I picked Pittsburgh against Kansas City. And my other team that I was going to pick was Cincinnati, so I was really glad to see that they lost. Um, so anyway, aside from my survivor pool antics, I'm going to pick Baltimore because... Who knows if, I mean, I know they're saying Big Ben's gonna play, but who knows if he's gonna be himself? And Baltimore's the type of team that's gonna, they're gonna come get you in the first quarter and hit you and make sure you know that you're playing them. Jake: And, uh, might see that guy Dixon by the end of the game. Uh, I agree. Baltimore at home. They could've won that indie game. Uh, they should've won it. They threw it on. What a stupid play. Again, Manning. Justin: Makes you think about giving him the ball with more than 20 seconds left. Jake: Yeah, totally. I watched that game and I was stunned as what I saw there. All right. Now let's go for the AFC East. Justin: We got three matchups. Let's do it. Jake: Miami. So what I want now, just in case you're paying attention.
03 Jake: Scores. Thank you. Let's go Miami Dolphins off their big win against the Panthers. Although how are they winning games? Um, they lost Ronnie Brown, but they seem to be able to win, you know? How do they do this? I don't know, it's frustrating. Justin: I hate them so much. I now, I used to hate New England more than my own. Jake: Oh, you can't hate them more than you hate New England. I hate New England with like all my life. No, I hate Miami the most. Ugh, no way. Justin: No, I do. Everyone out there who's listening, tweet at just Jack Kingdom or at Jack Kingdom. Let us know who you hate the most. Jake: Okay, I hate Miami that might be pull the week. I think that is um Justin: So, you know what let me let me start us off I think that Buffalo is actually gonna take this one because Buffalo at home against Miami. It's gonna be cold And I just don't think that Miami's gonna be able to continue this without, without Ronnie Brown. So I'm gonna go Buffalo low scoring game 16-10. Jake: Wow. We have a little guest in the room which I'm trying to get rid of. Alright, take that and go out to the living room. Go on. Justin: Some podcast fun. This is the professional version of the podcast, the professional edition. Yeah. This is why they're podcasts and not on national network television. Jake: That's right. So I just got rid of the littlest jet fan. Um, mind me at Buffalo, ah. You know, everything in me doesn't want to pick Miami. Don't. But everything in me says that Buffalo has actually been kind of, you know, sprightly in the last couple games. Justin: How about T.O. being T.O. last week? Jake: Yeah, I think they turn it on. I think they turn it on when it doesn't really matter. And I think Buffalo wins this like 27 to 20. 20... one remember they fired their head coach so yeah sometimes that kind of sparks people I thought they could they could have won that Jacksonville game they Justin: should have they're just the bills they blow games right but at home I like Jake: them I like them at home if they're playing in the Rogers Center I wouldn't like them at all all right then we got the big Monday night match up in New England at at New Orleans this is a great game uh... i'm gonna see you know you're going to do it is what six seven and three norleans is ten and oh on the radio uh... if anybody's to take them down this is clearly one of the city and Justin: yeah i was looking at new orleans schedule i mean this is it they got they got dallas coming up to but uh... i don't know this is it uh... I'm gonna go ahead and pick New England. I think this is one of those games where it's like, uh, New England needs a, uh,
08 Justin: they don't need it, but they love it. They love that, oh, you think we can't do this? We're gonna go in there and show you that we can. So, I. I think this is gonna be a crazy game. scoring is going to be out of control. I know we always say that and then it doesn't happen, but I think this time it's gonna happen. And I'm gonna say a team gets into the 40s. I'm gonna go with New England to get to 40 and New Orleans 37. One of those crazy New England has the ball last so they win. Jake: I think this is a home team, a home field game. Like if you said this was going to be New England, I would say New England's going to win. But having it in the dome, you know, I just don't see the Saints losing at home in the dome. And here's the thing, the Saints have been kind of getting themselves a hole and then digging themselves out. Can't do that against I don't I don't think they're gonna have to do that I don't think they're gonna have to do that. I think they're just gonna go out there and their defense is very opportunistic I don't know what their turnover ratio is Every time I turn on you know tape or look at games film or whatever and I don't do either one of those things But okay, how often do you look at film? Okay, game film a lot. I'm really I'm studying game seriously You know, I That's the Saints just they they seem to be able to turn over the ball and they seem to get it and they seem to Do stuff with it. So I Don't I don't believe that New England is strong enough, you know again If New England was playing like they were, you know two years ago, absolutely destroy them I think the Saints have have it and I think they'll I think it'll be close Calling it 34 30 but Saints win and then we've got the matchup of the week century century. The Carolina Panthers head to New York to take the much maligned and really sort of not just playing well New York Jets at home. What do you think? Two four Justin: and six teams big-time matchup. The one thing I'll say is that they they have They have a running game, Carolina. So, it's gonna be tough to slow them down in that respect, but... I don't know about their defense. I know they have Julius Peppers, but that's about all I know. Jake: Um... Justin: I don't know. I just never pick against the Jets on the podcast, so... I'll pick the Jets. Gosh. 21-17. Yeah. So not confident. Jake: I think this team needs a bit of a wake up. We've been in a slumber for a while now. I'm looking forward to the Jets coming out and playing just again.
02 Jake: A good game. Again, not against a great team. but a good game against a pretty bad team or an okay team, I guess as bad as we are. But I think we win this game, and I really do. If it was the Patriots, I would have been like, yeah, we're going to win. Sort of. This I think we're going to win, and I think we'll win in not a convincing fashion, but with enough to make it look like, yeah, we came out, we won the game. And I hope we win it early, because currently we can leave 20. If there's 10 minutes on the clock and we're up by 20 points, the Jets will find a way to lose that game. So I say we win it 28-20 to finish off the game. All righty, so let's go to the tweets. We have a tweet. We have one from sort of, not really towards the podcast, but kind of went towards me. So I'll, you know. Kind of the question is, it's from Justin Canoe. It's not me. No, it's not you. Canoe, Canoe. It's at Justin underscore Canoe, K-A-N-E-W. And he writes, he says, seriously though, what was that yesterday? Obviously talking about the game against the Patriots. We're closing in on paper bag status. all the crying isn't helping. So we've talked a little bit about the crying. So there's a question in here somewhere which is, is this team as bad as they are, as the records as they are right now? And also, did you think that they were going to be there, be at this point now when you were looking at this season? So I'll go to you first. Justin: I don't think I saw him at 4 and 6. I think we went through in the beginning of the year and I probably had him somewhere around 6 and 4 at this point. And to be honest they should be 7 and 3. I mean, they really fucked a few games up. They could so easily be 7 and 3. And I guess that this is... I am now participating in part of the whining and the crying by saying the Jets should be 7 and 3. The fact of the matter is they're 4 and 6 and they've blown a couple of games. The whining, the crying, the cry... let me split them because they're not the same thing. The crying by Rex Ryan. in the locker room or as part of practice or whatever he did, I don't care. Fine. That doesn't bother me at all. That's a tactic being used by a coach and if it worked then it would have worked. Then we would have said, oh cry before every game. Fine. The whining, that bothers me because Rex came in as a blowhard and he talked a lot of shit. And he said, I'm not here to kiss Bellachik's rings, and I'm not here to do this. I'm here to win a championship. We're 3-0. We're the toughest team. We're in first place. We kick ass.
00 Justin: Well, now that you're 4-6, you kind of have to take that on the chin, buddy. You can't whine about it. If you're willing to talk shit when you're up, then you gotta be willing to take shit when you're down. And that's my take on it. Jake: Yeah, I mean I think that he's a tough thing because when you're winning, all this stuff doesn't matter. You could talk shit, you could not talk shit. You could be quiet, you could be loud, you could be whatever you want when you're winning. When you're losing, no matter what you do, it's going to be the wrong thing. There, you're wrong. Right? You're wrong. Thanks for watching! You're wrong. Like, you know, Mangini was man genius when he was winning. And he wasn't talking to anybody. He wasn't talking to anybody. He was quiet, you know. He was like so introverted. He starts losing everybody. He's like, well, why are you such a quiet jerk? You're losing. Jerk? So, you know, Rick Ryan comes in, talking all sorts of smack, get this team off to a good start. You're the brilliant a we love you you talk a lot. That's great. Hey talky talks He starts losing games like shut the hell up win a game. So I think there's there's no There's no right way to do it Interesting if they our last two coaches are so diametrically opposed in terms of the way that they handle their team Um, you know, at the end of the day, it is about winning. You know, it is about getting to the playoffs and winning the playoffs again in the Super Bowl. I don't care how you get there. Uh, whining about games, you know, I don't want, don't whine about little stuff. Whining about the, whining about the Patriots, you know, with, we're up by whatever it was, 17 points with like a less than a minute left and they're still like taking bombs down the field. Yeah, that was clearly just a shot at Redis. Yeah, well they're they but he first of all fuck them and they are they're the biggest piece of shit franchise And that's what Belichick will do. He ran it up what on the Titans like 552 points right I mean he's done this and he will always do this. This is his way of running his team. It works He's a jerk. He's an adulterer There's nothing more to say about that. It's not but He is an adult or don't but you know, you don't have to whine about it. Just say fine That's the way you're gonna do it the next time we meet you and if we happen to be winning by 20 points We're gonna go for it on fourth and one on the one with a minute with a second Justin: I'm out with four seconds left. Yeah. Yeah great Jake: Yeah, I like the game. I say, you know, until you beat until you beat the king, you know that I mean here Justin: That whole going deep thing it didn't bother me because it was Moss He went they literally were it was a little moss Reavis Thing and they were just trying to get one more down the field to Moss to see if he could get it and he couldn't So it was great. No, he could it was great. I mean Reavis is Shut the guy down If they would have done that to Welker, if Brady would have thrown another 20 yard pass down the middle to Wes Welker,
00 Justin: that would have pissed me the fuck off. Because that would have been just, I'm rubbing this in your nose. Just going deep to Moss is one of those little, it's playful, it's, Reavis and Moss have been playing the whole season, right? They've been talking, playing again. That was just a, let's take another shot at this. But if they would have went to the, this guy's already got 190 yards. Let's get him over the 200 yard mark type of thing. Jake: That would have really bothered me. The going deep to Moss didn't bother me at all. Yeah, I think it's disrespectful, but I think that's the thing you say. And I think some of this, and this is what I think we're actually. It should take a little bit of a lesson. Some of this is stuff you just leave to the locker room. It's not that it shouldn't be said. Sorry. There's a cough button on that mic. Is there? Yeah, somewhere. No, it's right here. But I don't know how to use it. It's not that it shouldn't be said. It's just that you shouldn't say to the press. Because the press in New York, again, they want to hang you. So you give them anything to hang you with. They're just going to hang you with it. So let's go out. Let's win a couple games. Let's look like a f- team that can actually play some football. So that's it for the podcast. As always, if you want to follow us, we're very friendly.
