04 Jake: This is episode 57 of the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Thursday, November 12, 2009, by Wheat Grains. of the women. Justin: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. As always on this side of the bi-week Digital Isle, it's me, Jake, and joining me... You! What? Look at you! Jake! Jake: Look at me, Jake! Justin: Uh, a little rusty, but uh, but trying to you know get out of the slumber that is having won the world series um Is justin how you doing? Justin? I'm doing absolutely great since the last time we did speak on this very podcast the yankees have pulled it off and brought home another championship for New York. As a odd mix of fan, myself being a Yankee fan and a jet fan, and throw the Knicks in there for good measure. Yeah, the one and eight Knicks. You know, oi, feel my pain. And I'm a big, you know, I'm a big sports fan. I'm like you who loves, and you're the one of the biggest football fans I know. But really your passion lies there. I love all the sports and, you know, my Knicks at one and eight. And I've never seen them win a title. Yeah, you never will. Never seen the Jets win a title. Never even seen the Jets play for a title. Yeah, I don't. I don't really want to. All I got, man, as far as that's concerned, I don't want to see. I don't want to see the. But I digress. I don't want to see the Yankees. I mean, I digress. The Jets play for a title. I want to see them win a title. if they go for title I'd like to play for one first you know well only for the three hours but I'll give you a little perspective always close make fun of your sports your other sports but here's a little a story that came out I'm so you know that that while you like your whatever basketball I think it's about whatever hoops or something is that baseball thing which isn't really a sport or is it team that other thing. I always say to you, it doesn't matter because no one else is watching those two sports. You know that the Super Bowl is the most watched TV show of the year, yes? In the world, I think. Do you know that the sixth most watched sporting events on TV since this year's Super Bowl, what do you think those are? They're probably just football games They're all football games So do you think how do you feel that the six most watched TV events sporting events since the Super Bowl are all regular season?
08 Justin: Yes, not even like a not even like one of the US soap in like majors better ratings involved or those six games really then have better ratings of the world series the NBA Finals March Madness really or any other sporting event since the Super Bowl the NBA Finals that they don't draw huge TV numbers but World Series with the Yankees and Phillies involved those are two of the biggest markets in the country are they not the two biggest maybe to the top three or four or five. I imagine that game six would have drawn like at least, you know, a regular season football game. Jake: Yeah, NFL notes that the average- Justin: Where did you find that statistic? Where did you find that? It's a news story. It's a news story. Don't call it the internet. No, the NFL notes that the average viewership of 17 million is the highest at this point in the season in 20 years. That's the average viewership. Yep. The East Network that shows you know why you know why each viewership every year Do you know why? Why does no one can go? It's also very interesting that I mean come on if I had said that if you know I kind of led you into it uh it's on pro football talk but um if i hadn't led you into it and i'd said okay now i would have i would have guessed super one's a number one sport you know watched you would have said yes and i always said okay name the other three you probably would have gone uh i would have gone to a dance car event i would have went to like a detona 500 perhaps i i i don't think i would have said three regular season football games. I might have said you know opening Thursday night football game You know that one definitely you know, maybe the first Monday night game or the first Sunday night game and Maybe the Daytona 500 or the World Series game six or something. Yeah, so anyway, let's get let's get to the little agenda for today We had a bye week. So we're not really gonna talk about the Jets last week game, but it's to fill in that time We're gonna talk about some we have some middle midseason grades. It's actually nice at the bi-week fall Yeah, this year very very much in the middle season. So we'll give some midseason grades for I don't know. Let's call it a coaching the head coach Defense offense and not about the quarterback We'll go a through f we'll go traditional, you know, extra special teams in there Talk about our last week's throne picks. We only made we made our throne picks But then we only picked one game and then we'll talk about this week's throne picks including the AFC each matchup which is actually for match ups this week because none of the teams are playing each other and so we'll pick those and Then we'll we'll sign off and give everybody else a chance to go watch something else
01 Justin: You know first off before we start last last week's that dolphins uh... hatreds game or that was a that was a good game Jake: uh... Justin: that's really not i i i i did i want to work so i was actually able to watch it and uh... really good uh... it was fun to watch i was actually cheering for um... Uh, dolphins. Jake: The why? Justin: Because I wanted the pats to beat the dolphins who've beaten us twice. Jake: Right, but if the pats had lost, then they would have only be one game ahead of us. Justin: Yeah, but here's what I'm thinking. Here's my scenario. Alright, we play the Jaguars this week, who are 4-4. Yep. We gotta beat the Jaguars, and we'll talk about that later. Yep. But, New England, who we've beaten already this year, is playing the Colts this week. So we gotta hope the Colts win there. At that point, we are one game behind New England. And we play them. After already beating them this year. We win that game, so we win our next two games. Hats lose their next two games. We go 6-4, they go... We're 6-4, they're 6-4. We're in first place. in the tiebreaker. Yeah, because we need them twice. But then we have to go and win against Panthers, Bills... But still, what I did not want were the Dolphins at 4-4 tied with us. Right ahead of us at that point. Yeah, they are ahead of us then. But then we would have only been one game behind Patriots. Patriots lose to two Colts. Yeah, I don't want the Dolphins near us. Jake: We're five and four. Then we beat them. We're six and four. They're five and five. Justin: I didn't want the Dolphins anywhere near us because they beat us twice. It's scary to have them near us after beating us twice. It's bad. I mean, we lost with... Two games, it's terrible. You can't get swept by a division rival. That's why we have some upcoming games that are damn important. Okay, let's talk about some grades. This is kind of a fun year in terms of football. It's certainly a fun year in terms of the Jets, if you were paying attention to the first three games. But let's hand out some grades. So let's start from... You know where I think we should start? Where should we start? Since we've gotten through half the season, let's start at the draft. And look at like, you know, some of the guys that they picked and see how they... We're grading the rookie class of three players? Eh, no, it's... whatever it is. I'm just throwing it at you since you always throw me curveballs. I'm throwing you one. Am I grading the whole draft or am I grading just the players within the draft? I don't get that. Well, I can say the whole draft is like, again, we've already graded the draft because we did that draft special after the draft. Oh, we did. I could, yeah. Go back folks and download episode draft special. Yeah. Um, we could, I think we could, we could talk about the two players that are sort of
02 Justin: making a difference in the draft, but one of them we're going to talk about anyway, so one of them is... Yeah, alright, fucking, I'm sorry, I fucking don't. Good job. We'll take that out. That's why you don't throw the curveballs at you. Ha ha ha ha. You just talked yourself out of a curve ball, that's all. So let's start from the head coach. Give me a grade, A through F, you can do pluses and minuses. Head coach Rex Ryan's first half of the year. B minus. A what? B minus. Jake: Okay, give me a reason. Justin: The only reason why he gets a B minus and not a B plus is because we've lost games Thanks for watching. If you enjoyed this video, please like and subscribe. I will see you next time. stupidly And if we didn't lose games stupidly, I would have given him higher grade Like there were there were games like The Miami game recently that was lost stupidly. We should have won that game those game We beat that we won that game the bills game can't run for 300 yards with our defense and lose a game So, a B- though, on the positive side, he has brought a whole different energy to the team, a whole different life. They were lifeless under Eric Maginie, and he's doing the same thing in Cleveland, you can see it. They already fired his GM, his hand-picked GM, who came over with him. fired gone so I'm gonna give him a B- and brought his defense with him you're seeing the effect in Baltimore all of a sudden Baltimore is a an offensive team they're scoring points they're not stopping people anymore their defense isn't what it was ours is it's And we are where we are. if you look at their seasons have done almost exactly the same thing right Baltimore started off 3-0, everybody started off hot as hell on their jock and then have lost for last four to the five which is last four or five games exactly what the Jets have lost so it's kind of interesting they're clearly not the defense they once were you know is it because the play calling is it because of the players we took um one of the reasons I saw when I watched a little of both and I think the Ed Reed thing like he was non-existent in some of those games.
00 Justin: So anyway, Rex Ryan, I like it, but there are games, you're right. This is a team that should be six and a two. And I know it's always like you are what your record says you are, but realistically there are two games there that we should not have lost. We should have lost the same game, that's what we should have lost, no problem. We should have lost against. What's the other one? But the Bills and the Dolphins game. We should maybe- Well the Bills thoroughly beat us. Or I'm sorry, not the Bills. The Dolphins thoroughly beat us in that first game. Jake: They didn't thoroughly beat us. They scored the last touchdown. They scored the last touchdown. Justin: I get it. But they really killed us though in that game. They really did. They ran the ball down our throats. And we couldn't stop them. So that was a they had the ball last so they won they really did dominate us. So nice. All right, but our defense So give our defense a grade go ahead. Okay a a plus oof a plus really I mean, yeah, this is this is a turnaround for the ages. This is One of the top defenses in the league right now. I think they're right now points per game. They're fourth If you want to look at it from a yards per game perspective, they're second. One yard off of first. You know, if you want to look at it from really any angle, they're at the top of the league in defense. And it's because of obviously the coach coming over and bringing his system and bringing a couple guys who get it with them. Bart Scott, Jim Leonard, always in the right spots. big loss and Chris Jenkins but having the system in place has now really turned the defense into an A plus. I trust the defense. We have a rookie quarterback. I trust the defense in these games. We haven't lost a blowout. We haven't been blown out, not once. OK. I do not give them an A. I give an A minus. I don't give them an A plus. I give an A minus. And here's the reasons. Yes, they have been dominating in some games. But there's other games where they've given up far too many points. Here's a couple of things that I take ticks off. I'll take the plus away from, and I'll go down the minus. One is not enough turnovers. at all. Not enough turnovers, not enough, it doesn't matter if it's strips, sacks, interceptions, not enough. It's not that hungry defense that we saw. That's the thing that involves more defense and even the Pittsburgh defense if you watch some of the last games. That's what they survive on. A good defense will stop people from scoring. A great defense will turn it over. Then the other thing I'll take away from is... Um... is that other piece, which is that they're not scoring. Again, watch Baltimore of last year, even Pittsburgh Steelers of this year, they score. They don't just take the ball away from you. They take the ball away from you and they run it back 100 yards on you in the Super Bowl and win. Like, and that, this team is not doing that. So, not saying they couldn't, this is only half grade, but for the defense, to be an
01 Justin: A plus defense, you've got to take the ball away from the equal and you've got to score on them when you take away the ball. So I give an A minus for that. Offense. Defense, though. Defense, though, clearly best aspect of the team. Better A minus, but it's still not the greatest. Give me an offense. No. Offense. Come on. Let me grade. Thank you for watching. I'm struggling between giving him a grade and giving him a relative grade. No! Just give him a grade. It's not a scale, it's not a curve. It's not a curve, eh? Just give him a grade. C. Just average. C, okay. They're an average defense, or offense, I'm sorry. They can run the ball with anybody. So they're probably, you know, if I looked at the stats and I'm gonna, they are the best rushing defense, offense in the league. Yeah, so you give them a C for that? Yeah, because they can't throw. They're one of the worst throwing offenses in the league. Call that passing for us, NFL fans, or the passing defense, yeah. Alright, let's do this. It's still a rookie quarterback. So there's still times in the game where I feel like they're too stagnant or they go three and out or There's just times where I just don't I don't feel like the offense is above average so maybe it's because they haven't had all the players on field at the same time yet like until I think just this past week against Miami when they had Khatri and Edwards and everyone kind of all the pieces together finally but losing Leon hurts for this offense hurts big and I'm just gonna give him a C. Yeah, I'm going to not agree with you again. I'm going to give a C+. I agree with the passing, but I like where they're at and I like where they're going. So it's like I give them a C+, because I say, hey, you guys are going to continue to get better. Sanchez is going to get better. You get Kaczry back on the field. And also, you cannot deny that that running game is powerful. And that can put up... Can I just make an observation? Thanks for watching! Real quick about the running thing, I'm looking at the leading rushing teams and the top four. Not one of the top four teams have a winning record. And that's really odd. The Jets are the best team in the league rushing wise. Titans are next. The Panthers and then the Dolphins. followed by the Saints who are obviously the best so that's that's where it breaks right there at number five but the Jacksonville Jaguars are right after them at six and and there are 500 team as well it's sort of weird isn't it
02 Justin: usually the good rushing teams are pretty good like yeah win games yeah it's weird maybe the rules are changing so much like with the the pass interference bullshit and the ... You can't touch receivers and you can't hit quarterbacks. Do you think that would all lead to the running game being more important? Well, it probably leads to an easier passing game. I'll tell you this, I'll place a bet right now and I'll say that the end of the season will not be that way. The top five people in the rushing will all have... We'll all have plus will all be above 500. How's that? So the top five rushing teams will all be a five five Yeah, and I'll think and I'll tell you why I think this and know it's true Is because the the parody that's in the NFL now is wacky, right? You have just horrible horrible teams So yeah, we put up a 300 and something, you know yards against the Raiders and the bills. And the bills, but yeah, but that's the thing. That's 600 yards and two games. Some people put up 100 and 20. And so I think that's what's happening is the teams that are meeting those teams are putting up those kind of yards. You know, clearly Miami, that's their thing, is to run. So they are going to put up that kind of yards. But I think when we have to go hit those other teams again, are we gonna put up this week? Are we gonna put them on 300? You know probably not are we gonna put up 300 against Patriots? No, are you put up three against 300 against you know the bills again? No, so like the ability continue to do that. I don't think so. I also don't have Leon So yeah, but if you look at what Leon was doing before he left, it's not because of Leon. Interesting, the two games we put up or the last two games where we put up a lot of yards, Jake: it was not about Leon. It was about just the offensive line and I liked what the way Sean Justin: Green's doing. So anyway, that's offense defense. How about special teams? And now try not to think about just the last game, but try to think about special teams and give me a grade. I'm going to also give them a C, just average. Jay Feely has been pretty good. He missed a couple kicks recently, but pretty good. Okay, on kickoffs he doesn't really get a lot of touchbacks, but okay. Despite the taggin thing, they had been playing well. I have an observation on that as well. Go ahead, give it to me now. Well, I was reading... It's not really my observation. I'll pass along a... That's something I read in the daily news this afternoon in an article I can't remember who wrote it, but he was talking about Vernon Gholston and how Yeah, and in Gholston is ManGenie's boy And they're all now sort of pointing at ManGenie that ManGenie liked Gholston right and he's not even really playing at all and He's playing like 5-6 downs on defense every week, but they feel like they have to put him on the roster because they're paying him tons and tons of money.
06 Justin: So they're leaving off better special teams players like Ahmaud Carroll or other specialty type linebackers or DBs who are good at. tackling guys on special teams and instead have Vernon Gholston on the roster. So it's interesting that in that Miami game they did have to leave off like a special teamer to put Gholston on the roster and just threw him on special teams and he's not as good as these you know special team specialists. So it's interesting how the inner workings of like Both the politics of paying a guy like 22 million dollars guaranteed and him being a sixth overall pick can affect such things as kickoff coverage. Yeah, it's just it's interesting to think about it that way. A couple of fake punts that have all been successful. That's great. Scored some points on that. I don't think we've blocked any kicks or done anything. too spectacular on the running run back for touchdown. So I'm just going to give him a C. Yeah, C- definitely. First of all, I can't not, even though I said it, I'm not forgetting that last game. We lost that game because of the special team. Absolutely. Also against the Bills, the snaps, the snap that didn't go right. We would have won that game. Also against the Bills, the one that he missed. in that game, Jfully Miss after he set the record for having the best. So, couple game changing things that haven't gone our way. Usually it's the game changer, I will say against the, um, wasn't Houston, who was it that we played, oh, Tennessee. Remember Tennessee and like, we kept making that guy fumble and we kept getting the ball back? So, like, that picks them out of being like an F. Like, cause they happened. Well and the fake punts, the fake punts were pretty big when they happened. And the fake punts were the same. They changed games, those changed games. Yeah, they've all been successful. Not against the Raiders. All three. Against the Raiders, they didn't change the game. Against the Dolphins, the Dolphins probably did change the game, but guess what? We lost the game. So the ones that we did. Still, three fake punts, all successful. Yeah, but two of them against two of them in a team, against a team that we lost to. One of them was against a team that we could have gone out there with two players. And the only reason why we didn't get creamed like I was saying in those games is because we got two first downs on fake punts. So it sort of kept us in a game and almost allowed us to win a game. Alright, so let's talk running backs. Give me the trio of running backs. That's an A. Okay. A+, why not? I mean, Leon's A, because Leon's injured, but I've read an article that said that he's going to be ready and able for next season. He'll be signed at a nice, cheap rate for the Jets. Yeah, I agree with an A. You could probably go up to A+, just really, you know, the only thing I would probably give them a
02 Justin: ding on, you can't give a ding on if someone is getting hurt, is that the is that sometimes, although he can't, it's not in his production numbers, but sometimes, you know, when Thomas Jones gets to dancing in the background, but he, you know, he just gets shut down. I love it when he hits the hole, he's much better that way, but you gotta, gotta love the running game, you gotta give him an A. And then let's go for the number one, let's go! Quarterback play! How do you like the quarterback? Give me a grade. Uhhhhh... Okay, how about you give me a grade? D plus? D plus? C minus? He hasn't really won us any games that I can recall. He's lost us too. Um... He's a rookie, what do you want? He's not lighting it up, he's playing like, you know, like a rookie. His passer rating isn't very good, we're at the bottom of the league in passing. I can't give the quarterback much more than a D plus, C minus. Jake: Alright, I'm gonna give him a B minus. Wow! Why? Justin: Because... That's grading on a curve. No way! I'm not crazy about that. You're saying that right now Mark Sanchez is a B-. Jake: Yeah! Really? Justin: Well first of all, I'll tell you this. One is, he was given no weapons to start with. I mean, granted he was giving a weapon, Jericho Kottree, but we all know that if you're given one person, they're going to take that one person away. I think in the games that he's won, yes, he has lost two games, right? The Bills and the Saints were both his... his game and he gave away. But there are other games, and you're forgetting that, he has other games against the, against the, not Patriots, against the Dolphins in the first one. He marched down twice in the fourth quarter and scored touchdowns. That's what you want to do, right? Well, that's what you want a quarterback to do. He came out firing in the first three games. He beat the Patriots at home. Um, this guy, you know, if you take away those two games, I'm not, you know, play the numbers, whatever, I think he has 10 interceptions. You take away those two games, which I think is four and three and five or three and something like that. His numbers go way up. He's gonna have bad games. We knew this, but you can't give him like a D plus or B and he's played really well for a rookie. See you next week. for a rookie. Yeah, he's played better than Chad Pennington's played. Come on, Chad Pennington's been on our team and throwing the late breaking, you know, kick six to lose the game. Right? Yeah, of course. B-minus. Alright, so overall, give me a grade for the Jets.
00 Justin: Overall. C+. Yeah, I'll get better than average. B-, B-, because those two games we should have won and otherwise it might be. And by the way, where were you in the picks at this point? Where do you think we were going to be? Just want to kind of think that over. I think you said we were going to be... Four or five and three. I think you would be five and three or six and two maybe. 6 and 2 doesn't sound like I would have said that. Oh, okay. Alright, well that was the... I know I had us losing to Oakland, so... Jake: Losing to Oakland? Justin: Yeah, in the original picks. Oh yeah, so you were way off. Way off. Alright, so let's talk about this week's games. Yeah, let's do this. The games of the week. I'm trying to get him up here. I got him. Alrighty, we're just gonna go through as if you're new to the podcast, which we hope you are. We're gonna go through, we always pick all the games. That's not true, I don't hope they're new to the podcast. Jake: I hope there's tons of new people to the podcast. Justin: I hope there's tons, but I also hope people are returning. Like the people who've been here since episode one. Episode one, the best episode ever. So, we're going to go through, we pick every game every week, but we pick the AFC East games last and we pick them with a score. This week we're going to talk about all the games. Last week I actually did, did I do better than you or did you do better than me? You did, you beat me last week by one. Jake: So I think that's three for three. I did, you beat me three in a row. That's right, so I think I'm coming back. Justin: But I beat you in the first two I think. I think you won the first three, but it doesn't matter because next season we're gonna go full head-to-head. Damn right. Jake: The winners buying beers or something. Justin: Let's do this shit. Jake: Alrighty, let's go. That's why it's explicit. Justin: Chicago Bears. This game starts in like 20 minutes. That starts in 20 minutes. Against the San Francisco 49ers. 49ers off I think a 44 game losing streak. Yeah, I'm gonna pick them to win this game. Because of that big losing streak, but I think that their offense is hitting its stride Chicago's defense sucks and playing Thursday night on the road not easy. So San Francisco Yeah, I like San Francisco at home. They got to get it together this this better be the team Chicago's not that great There are a down where I've been throwing a lot of exceptions So yeah, I'll pick 49ers. Let's go Atlanta Falcons. You're Atlanta Falcons. By the way, someone called you out on one of the forums. It's like, why is this such a fair weather fence? It's my Falcons, my Yankees, my this, my that. That's not fair weather. Well, I'm just saying, someone called you out on it. Who called me out? I'll tell you later. Atlanta Falcons, who have been losing lately against Carolina Panthers, who have been losing lately. My Atlanta Falcons haven't been losing lately because they just won by like... They covered a spread of 10. Anyway, I'm picking them to beat Carolina on the road.
00 Justin: Yeah, agreed. I don't like them on as an away team, but Carolina is not that good. I could see Atlanta winning this game, so I'll pick Atlanta as well. New Orleans Saints, the undefeated New Orleans Saints against the, I think, one win St. Louis Rams. Here's your survivor pool pick, ladies and gentlemen. If you had an order pick, New Orleans. Yeah. Take the Saints. Agree. Take the Saints with the points. Although I think it's like 16 and a half or something. Let's go disco Denver Broncos at the Washington Redskins. Redskins off a... You gotta assume a loss. I mean, they stink. I think they lost anyway. Jake: Denver offered two losses. Justin: Yeah, two losses. Which makes me think that they're gonna beat up on this crappy Washington team. I'm gonna pick Denver. Interesting. Denver's lost against two really good Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Two teams that have good defenses. Now one thing to say about the Washington Redskins is they do have a good defense. They can't score though. I still think that Denver will win this game. Yes, Denver wins. I think this might be a shutout. Washington can't score and Denver's got a pretty good defense. Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings. Talk about your, if you also, you were gonna pick your, your, uh, suicide pick. Oh, Detroit's kinda scary, but, um, I can't imagine a fire of losing this one off the bye week, so. Off the bye at home Vikings win. Yeah, I can't imagine they lose. Cincinnati Bengals, this is a big matchup, actually. Great game, great game. I'd be the game of the week. at Pittsburgh Steelers. Steelers have a big Monday night matchup. Umm, yeah, this would be the game of the week if not for the the big, you know, Peyton Brady game. But I'm gonna pick the Steelers at home. I think that they lost the league. the previous game on the road at Cincinnati, if I recall. And that was sort of a shocker at the time, so earlier on in the season, obviously. So I'm gonna pick the Steelers to avenge that loss at home. Tough to beat at home. Yeah, Steelers playing really well. Playing really well. They've got the running game, they got Mendenhall running. They got Troy Palma back in full mention there. That's a big player for them. they're doing very well love it i will give them the uh... the win for the weeks and that's go kensi chiefs this is the no one's gonna watch it game uh... at the oakland raiders yep this game piece of shit this used to be one of the biggest wrappers in the league and you know it's probably still you drive away in oakland and in kansas city but no one else really Jake: gives I think it's probably not this probably blacked out in no thank you Justin: yeah this is not gonna be in there up a Kansas City on the road a little lift and emotional lift after cutting Larry Johnson this week I'm coming off the by I'm gonna I'm gonna pick Kansas City yeah Kansas City wins Oakland stinko Here's an actually kind of interesting match of Dallas Cowboys who just won over the...
06 Jake: They just beat the Eagles in silly. Justin: And going to Green Bay who just lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. What's with this Green Bay team? They really stink. But I'm not a believer in Dallas. I don't believe That they're that good, so I'm gonna pick Green Bay in this game. Yeah, we have our first miss matchup No, I think Dallas is good enough to go in there Green Bay They're in a tailspin Dallas's defense and Demarcus where we'll get to Them and I think they've given up like 20 They give them a ton of sex. Yeah, they're offensive lines put together with glue. uh... my green bay fan friend won't even come watch the game with me because i am embarrassed uh... philadelphia eagles at the san diego charges of the eagles got to go all the way off after a huge Jake: loss to uh... at to an opponent in their division go all the way across the country to the chargers who think they just had a huge win against the giants yes they just beat the giants in the last second Justin: uh... rivers right down the down the field like not i watch that game is actually a very good guy watch that that whole game as well with my uh... chive fan remain who was he must've lost his mind uh... he was just so unhappy at the end of the game when they went for field goal instead of that whatever doesn't matter uh... i think though that filly's going to be able to go into san diego and win this game because I think that they're good enough to not lose two in a row. Jake: Yeah, I don't like East Coast teams going west. San Diego at home, they're a better team at home. Justin: They're actually finding their stride. I think they'll be able to put up some points. The Little Rivers is way better than I thought he was. He's pretty good. I loved the last drive, to against. Against the Giants, they had no third downs. they went that entire field, no third downs. Jake: And they had one timeout left and they scored. Justin: Is Tomlinson like just a complete shadow of what he used to be? Yeah. He's like completely a non-factor in the game. I mean, this is the thing. If anybody's out there and listening, like of all you coaches who listen to the Jet Kingdom podcast, the history of running backs is pretty much Thank you very much. They're good up to about 29 years old and then get rid of them don't re-sign these guys where they're good for like five or six Seasons like don't wear them down for like six years I look at Larry Johnson, he just became a nothing. Well, you can only wear them down so much. There are some anomalies like He was also never a game player like him.
05 Justin: Larry Johnson doesn't even belong in the same breath as Curtis Martin. At the time that Larry Johnson was the game-changing player he was he could bust through and and literally take it to the house just like Tomlinson could just like Peterson can Curtis Martin one of the greatest running backs ever to live was never that kind of a game changer He was a every down back you give him the ball you feed him the ball and he would wear down the defense, he'd get 3, 4, 5 yards, he'd bust a 12, but if you watch his stats in his long runs, he never went like, you know, busted off at the 1 and then ran it for 9, 9 yards or did the shit that these guys did. Never, that was not his game. His game was, I'm consistent, you give me the ball, I won't cough it up, I will get you 4 yards. You give me again, I'll get you another 4 yards. You want to go through, you want 1 yard, I'll give you 1 yard. Like, that's the kind of player he was. Great one of the greatest running backs ever. But anyway, moving on. Moving on. Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals. So Seahawks barely escaped a loss to, I think, Detroit. Yeah, they stink. And. Cardinals lost to... No, the Cardinals won. Sorry. Didn't they? Didn't the Cardinals win? Duh. Duh, duh, duh. It doesn't matter. Jake: I'm picking the Cardinals. Justin: Oh yeah, Cardinals beat up on the Bears, you're right. Jake: Yeah, they killed them. I got the Cardinals. Justin: Okay, I will pick the Cardinals at home. I don't like Seattle on the road. I don't really like Seattle at all. Again, they they did come back from that and almost win, but they got down with 14 points now We'll go to the Monday night matchup Baltimore Ravens. Oh, this is easy Baltimore. They're playing Cleveland, please What a shit Monday night game. Yeah, another one There's a lot that there's funny cuz there's been some good ones and it's been shit ones I'm almost thinking as much as I kind of hate flex. I kind of like flex. I want them to flex in the best games Well, they just put the best games on Monday and Sunday night. Fuck it. Seriously, fuck that shit. Just every two weeks, just fuck them up. Why is Monday out of the equation? Jake: Well, because to move them across a day. Oh, a day. Yeah. Justin: But why would they even think to put this game on? Anyway, I think next week starts the flex. So we'll see who gets flexed up. Well, we have a great Sunday night game this week. Why don't we start there in the AFC East? Jake: It should be good. No, let's start. Oh, you don't want to start there. Nope. Let's start with the Buffalo Bills Justin: Okay, let's go the AFC East Buffalo Bills three and five at the Tennessee Titans who are two and six Titansy tight put in Vince young and actually won two games Not started listening to this check came back. I guess they would've started earlier. They might be four and four I'm gonna pick Tennessee to go to three and six there coming along there there there you're getting closer to the team that they were last year they're running the ball That Chris is Chris Johnson. I think it is. Yeah
00 Justin: He is game changer fast. Yeah, he is faster than fast So I'm gonna pick Tennessee because Buffalo was not gonna be able to stop that Jake: And since you have done 57 of these podcasts before you'll know you give me a score. Justin: Oh shit. This whole thing is throwing me off. Uh, Tennessee Buffalo, not a very high scoring game. Uh, 20 to 13. Well thought out. Titans, yeah, I see the Titans winning again. Again, I think this would be a close one. If this were the Tennessee Titans in Buffalo, I would almost give this to the Bills. I think this is a home field thing, so I'm actually going to give them the home field three points. And I'm going to say Titans 19, Bills 16. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who off their big win? You win. Against this. Again, sorry, who did they win against? Oh man, it's bad. We just said it two seconds ago. We did. They're one and seven going to Miami, who are three and five suffering a loss against the Patriots last week. You know, two Southern teams playing in the Florida, kind of, this is like a little bit like a Jets Giants thing, but what do you think? Well... It's interesting because Tampa is really bad. They're probably the worst team in the league. Oakland and them are right there. And wow, there's some really bad teams this year. But they're starting their rookie quarterback, Josh Freeman. So this was one of the guys that was on the Jets radar as the Jets might be looking to pick a quarterback. So where they where originally they had to trade up to get to. Sanchez but this was one of the guys potentially on their radar and he played really well last week And then they happened to win the game But they're not gonna win this week. So my hat is gonna take it to him The the running game of Miami is gonna beat up on Tampa. They're gonna be a little too much Little too much for Tampa and they're going to win by a score of 23.7. Wow, bucks only score sevens, right? They stink. They do stink. I think they're going to ride a little bit of the high of winning last week. So I do agree. It's going to be a running game. It'll be a very boring game to watch. Like if you're if you got If you're nothing else to watch at one o'clock, although the Jets are playing at one, so you'll have to be watching that, don't watch this game. I mean, it's just going to be boring. But the Dolphins will win 24-17. Then, we have the New England Patriots. 6-2 going against... Great game. They have played now. This is an interesting stat that I saw on one of these other shows. That's not ours, so she'll not be mentioned. This is the seventh year in a row.
01 Justin: These guys are always like they're they've won their divisions like in the regular season That's it's almost unheard of so seven theater in a row. They're playing You know, there's a big that happen. I think the schedule makers like to do things that keep the football people watching So the so the Patriots going to the Colts So the six and two Patriots going to meet up against the a little bit beaten up eight no Colts Jake: As if they're in the same division. Yeah, it is like they used to be go ahead I'm gonna pick indie little bit with the heart a little bit Like you want to happen a little bit like I want that to happen Justin: All right, but here's the thing just before you give me a score go on Think about this. Would you rather have the Patriots go to the Colts and have a huge? and lose and be all pissed and then come back and play the jets and beat up on the jets or have the Patriots go dominate the Colts and be all like we're so awesome we can't be beat and then have the Jets just come in and just shiv them. Here's the thing. I don't think the Pats do the latter. of what you just said. I think they do the former. If they lose and then they go play a home game, they don't very often lose that next game. But I don't think they do the latter where they get so up like we're the best. They've been used to that. They went 16-0 in a regular season. So I don't know if they really do that. But I'm gonna pick the Colts. Peyton Manning is so good. The best in the league. I think he's better than Brady. And they're really hard to stop. So this is gonna be a really crazy game. Last person with the ball wins. Let's call it 40-37. Wow Yeah, I mean I think I'm going a little bit on the cold. I like the Colts at home. I think the Colts They haven't been doing very much and on stopping teams In fact the last two games that they've played I think they scored a combined of like 20 and 18 or something so they haven't been dominating and they've been getting down and coming back and winning but This is a huge matchup Sunday night, you know Peyton will put on his thing This question is whether the secondary of the Patriots can really stop, you know, Peyton from throwing, you know He's just gonna throw they've given up on the run completely Dallas Clark had 14 catches last week Jake: Yeah, and that's what they did they just and I think it was all like in the fourth quarter a third and fourth quarter They just literally just kept throwing to him saying if you can't stop him. We're gonna keep going Justin: No, no, no, they threw in the first half. Yeah, 40 40 attempts in the first half Like they didn't even try to run the ball in the first half. Colts 31 Patriots 30. Yeah, a little bit from my heart. And now the matchup of the year. This is what is being, I mean, you know, it didn't work for the...
03 Justin: for the Giants when they're saying this is our playoff game, our one game season last week and they lost it to San Diego. So I'm hoping we're not doing that. But basically if we're looking at the rest of the season, right, we got to get to 10. Right, to be even... And this has to be one of them. We have to get to 10 to be one of the contenders. We have the 4-4 Jaguars who are actually ahead of us in the standings right now. We're 4-4. They're coming to town. They're a team that kind of did reverse of us. They started off really poorly, looked really bad, and have kind of picked it up. They found their rhythm. They found the running game. And so they're coming to the Metallands and I think they're fighting for their season too. So this is not a team that's just, it's not like the, I don't know, like the box or something. They're just going to be like, whatever, we're going to sleep. This is a team that actually, you know, uh... is in the hunt so what do you think is going to happen here? I think and I've actually thought this one through a little bit I think the Jets are gonna win this game for a number of reasons number one Jacksonville is very one-dimensional on offense they run the ball and they get the ball and Maurice Jones drew They have one wide receiver named Sims Walker, or Michael Sims Walker, exactly. But he's put up some big numbers, but he hasn't played against 24. So, you know, it's not gonna be easy for one guy to beat the Jets as a wide receiver. This, you know, Randy Moss wasn't able to do it. Um, Andre Johnson wasn't able to do it. Michael Simms Walker is not gonna be able to do it with David Garard throwing on the ball So I think that this is gonna be a big game for the defense They're gonna come out and play really really well at home and the offense is gonna play well enough The run game is gonna be there. They're gonna be nice and rested off that bye week and ready to go so I think the Jets take, the win and It's gonna be a pretty good game 17 to 6 We're not even going to score a touchdown? No, they're not. Wow. What's wrong with that? Jake: Are we going to score two touchdowns and a field goal? Justin: Yeah, that's about what we scored. That's going to be a good game to watch. Jesus Christ. It's going to be great. We're going to beat the shit out of them. Alright, well, it is... Like, brutal. I am going of course because that's what I do. It's going to be 65 and sunny. That's bullshit. Which I'm kind of looking forward to because we've had some crappy weather. I've tried to wear shorts last time and I got halfway through the tailgate and I'm like F this and I changed into long pants. But I didn't wear a jacket. I agree. I don't agree. I totally. I I think this is about the running game again. I think we have the ability to stop their run. That's what they have.
00 Justin: They have their run. They have M.G.D. And that's it. They have M.G.D. And then I don't care what it is. I don't care who this is. MJD, sorry. Jake: And that's it. Is that our sponsor? Justin: He's going to throw some stuff left and right. But, if we can run the ball, which I think we're going to give it to, but really this is a big test for Rex because the bi-week is weird. People go home, they see their kids, they see their family, they go to the club dub dub and they make it rain and then how do you bring them back? How do you bring them back to reality and make them focus? I can't wait to see what they do. I hope we come out Again, our game plan for every game for the rest of the season should be Come out play a good running game get a lead Run the fuck out of people until they they just scream because I think if we can keep if we can get a lead We can keep a lead You know come out go down by 14 points. We're in trouble So that's what we're going to do. And I think we win, and I think it'll be a little bit more high scoring. I think they'll come back and forth. I think it'll be 27, Jets, 27, Jaguars, 17, Jets win, Jets win, Jets win. Alrighty, well that wraps up our show. But as always, that's actually been a long one.
