03 Jake: This is episode 56 of the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009. The stats lie. Justin: of the women. Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. As always, on this side of the digital aisle no jokes this week, is Jake and uh... joining me on the other side is my good friend Justin. Justin, how are you doing? Hello. Yeah, so first of all, let's say you're probably in a little bit of double pain because your Yankees and your Falcons and your Jets all lost. Justin: All my teams lost on Sunday. It was a bad Sunday. It was pretty bad. It was pretty bad. The Giants fault. They totally fubarred the whole thing. They... went into Philly and got their asses handed to them. So I'm blaming the Giants. Jake: You're blaming the Giants on the Yankees loss. Yeah. That's interesting. Alrighty, well let's kick off with a little agenda, let you know what's gonna go. downtown today Basically, we're gonna talk a little bit about the Jets in Miami go over some of the the play the plays of the game I'm also gonna pick our fools of the game because they lost as we all know Go over last week's stone picks And then even though it's the bye The boys here at the J Kingdom podcast never rest. So we will pick this week's stone picks and then we'll talk about the one AFC each matchup this week has both the Bills and the Jets are off Miami at New England and then we'll wrap up the show. Alrighty Let's get down to brass tacks. Let's talk about Let's talk about the sweep. I mean, let's talk about the Jets and the Dolphins. Come into this game, I can't say it was 100 percent. I lost my feeling of we're just going to win and now I'm like, this is going to be a close game. I thought it would be a close game. I thought it would be a high scoring game. Um. The only thing I didn't think was that, you know, Ted Jin Jr. would run back two touchdowns for or two returns for touchdowns. You know, really, the game. Give me some thoughts. What do you Justin: think about the game that you saw? I hate the Dolphins so much. I hate them so much. We beat them in every aspect of the game except for...
04 Justin: the final score. We really did outplay them completely and it really bothers me that they won because they win in those ways and I hate that. They win in those parcells teams kind of ways where they return to kick-offs or... you know, do something that allows them to win the game. Pretty impressed by the defense. They played really well. They didn't really give up too many points, the defense that is. They really got burned by... by Ted Ginn Jr. and Jason Taylor scored another touchdown. I think the Dolphins' offense only scored one touchdown. So they shut down the Wildcat, which was a non-factor. They shut down really the Dolphins. They just... Really couldn't stop Ted Ginn and that really sucks because our special teams is usually pretty good But otherwise I thought they played really well the offense played well they scored 25 points they should have scored more but they they went for two a bunch of times and failed Every time so they left a couple points on the board which ended up hurting them at the end But you know what you gonna do uh... therefore for and for four is not terrible place to be right now Jake: yes or not please you thought that the i mean i think that you know it's sort of the i i'd kind of had a bigger sense of this would be a five hundred season i think the main eight you know as we got to a 3-0 start I was certainly regretting that 8-8 pick and now as we get back to foreign force you know I'm kind of thinking well maybe I knew more. I don't know I don't really think I knew more. You know if I was going to read some stats I think this is the game where the stats at the stats absolutely lie. If I said you know okay so you know I think we sacked Chad Henney four times. If I said, Thomas Jones runs for over 100 yards. Mark Sanchez throws two touchdowns and runs one in. If I said, you know, we shut down their running game to a complete 52 yards running. If I said that we shut down their passing game to a 112 yards total. You know, what would you think? You say, well the Jets must have won that game completely, they must have just dominated. And I think I'm really looking forward to the time when all three components of the Jets play, all three parts of the team play at the same level. in the same level not being crappy. I'm looking for when the offense, the defense, and the special teams.
02 Jake: I would have said going into this game if you'd said if you were worried about one thing I would have said Sanchez or the running game or the defense or the wildcat. I would never ever have picked special teams which is something we've always been good at. Never would have picked it as the thing to worry about in this game. And yet here it was the offense firing all cylinders making passes. Yeah, I would say the two the two-point thing I think that's more of a coaching thing than an offensive thing The defense total shutdown. I mean, I remember looking at those first three or four times. They tried the Wildcat I think they had like two yards. It didn't work before time. It didn't work yesterday As I posted on one of the websites, I said the answer to the wildcat is now available on the internet. And it's called bring the safety down, bring the corners down and just sit there and rush the passer. So yeah, I mean horrible, horrible loss. It kills me. Thank you. Um, you know, if I'm going to take away positives out of this game is that I think our defense is for real and I think our offense is for real and I don't think our special teams will give up to running, you know, returns probably for the rest of the season or hopefully ever again in one game. Um, you know, the fumble by Sean Green. Okay, you know, that, that stuff happens. I expect that thing to happen. Do I expect them to be Johnny on the spot and pick it up and run it? Eh, kinda. I mean, they're pro bowlers, they're good defense. But I did not expect that to happen with Ted Ginjinger to run back 100 and 101 yards right after each other. So no, that game just sucked. It sucked, it sucked, it sucked. So out of the sucky game that it was, give me your play of the game. It can be a positive or a negative play. Justin: I always like to pick two, you know. Especially when they lose so thank you. Thank you for the option. Well. I always like to pick a good play and a That's a shit play because they lost Touchdown catch because that was really great catch. He really couldn't even see the ball I don't even know how he caught that and then the fight to get into the end zone So that's my play of the game. My ship plays are the 10-game junior runbacks, especially the second one. I mean, the first one fine, feel he just hit a long field goal, he felt good about himself, he tackled the guy twice already, so he got caught up in the middle of the shit and he whatever he got outside. But the second one should never happen. Those are my plays of the game. Jake: Yeah, the brilliant Edward's play certainly currently an awesome play. I mean, it made I think ESPN's top 10 plays of the NFL weekend. Really great play. I love it. I mean, he's just a beast. See, he really goes that extra. I like that.
00 Jake: So I recall I think he had one or two drops that I thought he should have had. Bye. Overall, I like what we had out of him and if you watch this game is the first game I think we've had country back kind of full not even full but mostly full and It opened up the game for country country was able to catch more I mean, I mean it wasn't huge stats But I think he had you know, he had a couple big plays that I'm looking at it Yeah, I mean well Dustin Keller at 76 yards Edwards had 74 country at 70. That's good stuff, right? I mean, that's First for long of 16 long of 25 and country's along of 53 right? That's what you want to see That really that who you gonna cover you gonna cover Edwards Okay, fine Then country's opening and to cover country will and Edwards open recover them both then dust and color which is actually might play the game Which was that fourth fourth and 12 I think it was that catch. I was really wonderful really I think it was That was unbelievable And the kind of thing that you know yes fourth and ten and it's just the kind of thing that you think That you're not you're not gonna make that catch right rookie quarterback. Just not gonna make that throw He made the throw too bad. They couldn't do it. You know consecutive Let's talk a little bit about that about the two-point conversion thing because I think there's a little There's a controversy about the two points. They went a little too early. Yeah, I mean, I hate to quote Parcells all the time. If I've read his book or something, I think he always... ... Well We go back. Justin: I think we went for two, but the problem was that the one that they went for was in the third quarter, and it was our offense was having no problem going down the field. We had given up touchdown off of the kickoff return and the other one off of the fumble return and had already given up these three touchdowns. So I think like just It's very frantic, but it was still just the third quarter and you could have gotten it to 4. You know, to a 24-20 game. Instead it stayed 24-19. And then the Dolphins made a huge mistake in going for 2 and helped us. Why would they go for 2? Up 30-19? What are you doing? Why not go up 12? If If they were dumb, then that one. I don't get it. Jake: Again, if we went for the extra point on those two,
01 Jake: and I know second guess, we're all fans. That's what we do. But it would have been 27 to 30 at the end there. And then when we were at the 10, instead of having, or the 20, where we were, instead of having to go for that, to make the first down, we could have kicked the field goal. Justin: Well, because the Dolphins scored. a touchdown and they went for two. They felt compelled to go for two and they missed. Yeah, I don't know if they're gonna do two. Well they wouldn't have. They would have kicked the extra point and made it. So then we would have still been down by four. It doesn't matter but it was silly because it was too early and both teams did it way too early and left points on the field. The fact of the matter is the Jets left two points on the field and the on the field, so that's just the way it is. Jake: Yeah, it just, you know, again, I think at the time, you kind of look at it and you're like, oh, I get it mathematically, whatever. But take the advice, go for the points when you can get them. If you need, if you're eight points down at the end of the game. go for the two. Other than that, don't play this thing. Because it's a low percentage play and I've been playing a lot of Madden on the iPhone, which is sad in itself. But it's funny because one of the quotes that Chris Collins has like a voice on the Madden game and he has like three of them. And one of them is, you know, when you go for two and you miss it, that almost guarantees you have to go again and chase that two points. And I was like, yeah, that's right. Man you're smart in Madden. Anyway, so that was the game. It sucked. We picked it both wrong. Jets are four and four. But here, let's take some positives. Again, I think Marc Sanchez played very well again. You know, left some stuff on the field, but didn't throw in interceptions. Didn't I think make any really just dumb mistakes. He threw that one that could have been picked, but wasn't. But, you know, you have a million of those. And the defense absolutely shut them down. Sacks, Henny did exactly what I thought they would do. So there's a team there somewhere. It's just a matter of can they all play at the same time? Can we get all three components to play? And if you look back at some of these games, you go, OK, special teams was great, but defense wasn't so good. That was the last game against offense is good. Special team for defense wasn't. Defense has been very good in a lot of games. Offense throws five interceptions. So. Let's god forbid if we all get to play at the same time and see how we end this. Justin: It's early, it's early, it's still only in the halfway mark. It's early, but if you look at the... It's halfway home in a rookie season. Jake: Look at the FC. Well okay, but you're just throwing the season away? Justin: No, I'm just saying it's halfway home in a rookie season. So it's not like... Well then realistically, you look at the playoffs. We're not... We're not... looking at that situation, you know?
00 Jake: That's true. But we're in a competitive thing. We have the Patriots are leading the league again, which is just frickin' or the division again, which is perennial. And we're gonna have to catch up to them to do anything here. Wildcards are gonna be hard to come by. They're gonna come to teams who probably have 10 wins. Getting 10 wins at this point is going to be... uh you know we got some games at the end there that we got the colts at the falcon we have some games that are very important Justin: we're we're that that we have to win um because there are some teams that we play that might come down to us and them and that last game of the season is looking like it might be a really good one Jake: Yeah, no, I can't wait. Not only is it the last game in the regular season game in the Meadowlands, which is a whole other thing. All right, let's skip this game. This game is over. Fuck you, Miami. Fuck you forever. We'll sweep you next year. All right, so let's talk about your picks. How'd you do last week there, buddy? Yeah, you sucked ass. Five and eight, seriously? Justin: We didn't pick a full of the game. Jake: Oh, sorry, give me a fool game that you want my fool. Give me a fool. Yeah jerk I do Justin: Okay, I'm gonna pick Vernon Gholston just cuz No, the defense played just cuz he cuz he's absent. He's absent. He's not He's not a field on the field. There's Jake: I'm gonna pick I want to pick Mike West off. I'm sorry. That's not fair. I'm picking him because it is fair. Here's the deal too. I listened to a 45 minute interview with him during the week. He was on one of his podcasts. And I was like, and I've never heard the guy talk for more than four seconds in my life. He always has like a whip here, a whip here. 45 minute interview about the this and how you do this and how you can you know these kind of things now Justin Miller will Do this and I was like alright. Well I get it You're really you really know and then then his special teams just blows up so I give it to him fuck him Yeah, do better next time a tackle for the game You should get out there and make a tackle. Mr. Westoff, with your broken or not so good leg. Alright, sorry, so then how did you do last week? Not so well. Shit the bed? As bad as Mike Westoff's special teams. Shit the bed. Alright, enough. You and I had reversed numbers. You got five right, eight wrong. Is that how I did? Partly because you picked your falcons. Yes, I always pick my and I got eight right now. Justin: Falcons looked OK. Yeah, they looked OK. Jake: He threw five picks. He threw five. All right. Justin: That's going to happen. Jake: He love it. Vilma hitting the hitting the ball up. I love that. Watching Vilma. All right. So then let's talk about this week. So let's put it all behind us. I think that's two weeks. I have one. I don't know how many weeks we've been going, but we go back. I have one a couple weeks now. Justin: Well, yay.
00 Jake: I think I have I think I've been doing pretty well for those of you playing along at home Tell him to go stuff now. I've won the least the last two weeks. Well, you're not in this week All right, so let's hear it Let's go as you all know we picked every game and then we talk about the AFC's matchups a little bit more in depth and pick some scores Since that's only one game this week. It'll be easy to talk about and make this podcast very quick on a bye week alright, let's talk about the Cardinals going on the road to Chicago stinking it up hard win over the Browns and The Cardinals who lost at home against the Panthers thinking it up against the bad team Justin: That's terrible. I'm gonna pick the bears at home Jake: Yeah, Bears are going to win at home. Cardinals, no good. Although, they're playing better on the road than there at home, but that's insane. Then we got the Packers coming off the huge loss to the Favre at Lambeau Field. So the Pack is slowly disappearing in that division. On the road against one of the worst teams in football, Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Justin: Yeah, I'm going to pick Green Bay. Okay. coming off that loss to beat Tampa and if you allow can I take us down a rat hole for a moment sure remember how last year you were giving me shit for saying that farms gonna play two years two years is two years in them And yes, I said I was stupid for even saying that and then he's coming back and now he looks like Maybe he actually was injured at the end of last year Which I think he's an asshole for coming out and saying and not saying last year when he was actually injured but anyhow For the what if out there what if with this Jets team And Sanchez sitting behind him they have far starting this year Jake: What's a record yeah right now eight games under a belt Justin: Six and two and he's one he's one more year into the offense and they have this defense and this head coach and Sancho's they still pick Jake: I think he he would have lost let's let's say we would have lost Miami because that wasn't about the offense losing and we probably would have lost Houston because why I think he would have been really rusty that he I think we've been really rusty that game I'm just saying he would have been rusty so I think we would have lost those two games I think we won every other game. But here's the thing, I never said that he wasn't gonna play for two years. What I said was he wasn't gonna play for the Jets for two years. Oh, you thought he was gonna play somewhere else.
03 Jake: I didn't know if he was or not. You said he was two years on the Jets. Justin: I did not think that the Jets wanted a one year thing. I thought they wanted two. Jake: Well, I think they wanted to, but then they shit the bed. Then Eric Van Gini gets fired. They shit the bed going down the stretch after going 8 and 3, leading the AFCs. Then they shit the bed. Farve kind of, you know, he shit the bed so no one really wanted him. Rex Ryan didn't call him when he became the head coach. So no one's like going, hey Farve, we love you long time, come back. So then he says hey just release me and then You know, in some ways I think he used New York for what he wanted to do. I think he wanted to get to that team. As weird as it is, I think Farv wanted to show the fucking team that screwed him up. He wanted to show them, look at me now baby, you know, kiss the baby. Because, you know, I think he was so angry that they basically said the trains left the station. we're not we don't think that you can do it anymore which is what you what you're saying to a coach or to a quarterback when you let him go and you start the guy who's never started the game. Justin: Well you know he also did retire on you the last four years. So he's also said I don't want you. Jake: That's the thing. No he says I don't want to play. He didn't say I don't want you. I mean that's not fair. Justin: Whatever we've had that discussion a million times. Jake: I agree if it's any Joe, if Kellen Clemens goes and retires and he comes back, you're like fuck yourself. But it's Brett Favre and Brett Favre is magical and I think he's a magical flute and I think that's it. You don't say no to Brett Favre and I think they made the mistake. Still think they made a mistake. I still think Packers. were the only team that kind of lost out from the D-Laster. I think the Jets did better than they were due. I think the Dolphins did better than they would have done. I think the Packers would have done much, much better if they had kept far. The team that's looking silly pretty right now is the Vikings. I mean, they really got it together. And I think they're playing at a level that they See ya next time. I want to say they're playing above themselves. Like, you know, they talk about they're so good at this and they're so good at that. I don't know, all these receivers they have are kind of no names. And yeah, Peterson's okay, but he's had two games of running over 100 yards. Two, they're seven and one. That says something, right? That says they're not winning by running the ball. So I think they're there. I think far wanted to get to the Vikings to say fuck you to the Packers. He did it. He's done it and You know if everything goes as planned he doesn't get hurt again. We'll see after week 10 11 12 what he how he's playing But if they get into the postseason and he's playing healthy and they get they get to start at home You know, what teams are going to be able to go in there and really beat up on them? I think they got a, you know, it'll be interesting match-ups anyway.
14 Jake: so good rattle i like it so act out at a rattle washington rick o what do you think the record the air gets into the some like Justin: that i mean it's healthy so Jake: yet he would give a couple of don't think he would have i don't know and we will ask for those games uh... let's go washing redskins second worst team in the in the Well, maybe third or fourth. There's so many bats. They're all so bad. Against your Falcons at home, Falcons who just actually played well, I can't believe they were up 14-7 against the Saints and just couldn't get it done. Justin: I think my Falcons. Saints are pretty thick. Jake: Yeah, I think the Falcons at home, they're a better home team. They don't travel very well, so your Falcons are always going to have trouble. Traveling but yeah, they'll win at home against the Redskins and if they lose that game your Falcons aren't going anywhere Kansas City Chiefs on the road Against the Jacksonville Jaguars who are our next opponent after his buys Against Kansas City sticks and uh... can see steece jacksonville can actually run the ball that's all they can do uh... but at home again more thank you jack big time no one will allow them but the worry both more ravens after huge win against denver denver's no longer undefeated uh... on the road against their division rival since many games for my baltimore Ravens. Justin: uh... i'm gonna pick baltimore to beat cincinnati come off that win in and uh... beat the division rival Jake: yeah i agree baltimore wins that they're they're they're playing they're playing what they should be playing you know every net hit when he just knocked the ball out like i had reads back uh... they'll be close but i think baltimore wins so far we have any picks the disagreeant. Houston Texans on the road against the undefeated Indianapolis Colts, realizing the Colts usually don't have a problem. Justin: I was going to say, this is usually a tough game for the Colts, but I'm going to stick with them at home in the dome, Peyton Manning. Jake: Yeah, hard to pick against Colts at home, but we'll pick against them in like four weeks, five weeks. Lions on the road against Seattle, who's recently been seeing that themselves. Justin: Detroit stinks, so Seattle will win at home, even though they stink too, but they will Jake: win. Yeah, they'll stink because it's just be rainy and stinky as opposed to in the dome and stinky. So yeah, they'll win.
01 Jake: Carolina Panthers off a big win against Arizona Cardinals heading to New Orleans to take on the undefeated New Orleans thing. Justin: Think New Orleans is going to stay undefeated. Although this is sort of one of those games that I want to, I almost want to pick Carolina I didn't just did. Do it, but I can't I'll pick New Orleans Jake: Yeah, I'm getting a little word here we got too many picks in common Carolina is no good Saints are real good Just gonna you said the question came up and I'll ask you since we're doing rattles Saints going to feed the season They only three big they only three big games left. Let me just give you the the other teams that are playing besides these three games alright let me look at their schedule I'm gonna use the power of the internet Justin: to very quickly get to their schedule let me see they have Carolina they have St. Louis they have Tampa those are their next three that is win-win-win cake then they have New England at home It's a tough one. Add on. Monday night. Monday night. If they are undefeated at that point, New England is not going to want to let them continue to go undefeated. That's going to be a real tough one. Then they have Washington. So if they get past New England, they have Washington who stinks, and Atlanta, who proved that they can play with them, that's going to be a tough one. you Dallas at home, which is a tough one, but then they have Tampa and Carolina again who stink so yeah They only have a couple tough games like three more tough games I'll say I'll say yeah I would say only two more because it's so frickin hard and only two teams have done it before and this doesn't strike me as a team that's as good as That New England team was even though Their schedule is kind of soft. I I don't think they'll do it Jake: I totally agree. I don't think they'll do it and I would look but I do want them to go undefeated until the page Justin: That's great. They're undefeated. Absolutely. And then of course I want the Saints to win because Jake: All the time All right, cool and let's see next quit San Diego Chargers after a small win over the Raiders against the Floundering three loses three losses and your giant to just awful Justin: Eagles, but I'm gonna pick them at home San Diego has to come all the way across the country to play in Some weather I'm gonna pick the Giants Jake: By the way, that's exactly what we said about the Cardinals and the Cardinals' wonder. But yeah, I can't see the Giants losing four in a row. They're really playing poorly. Poorly. And I did pick the Eagles to win last week. That's one of the reasons I... No, because I watched them against the Cardinals. I saw nothing that I thought could beat the Eagles.
00 Jake: I watched the Eagles the next night and the Eagles looked good. Yeah, but I think the Giants will bounce back. Although it's one that I'm I'm I would flip maybe he lies more than we think. I just he's just not playing like Eli. I mean, if you had some giant fans, some that some that you and I both know one saying one that you know, really? Justin: I'm like, seriously, talking to ones that you know, you know. Oh, no, maybe I'm not the guy that's like retarded. Guy already won a Super Bowl. Jake: Well, I. I know but sort of trying to... Tennessee Titans! And now he's an expert on ESPN. Yeah. Tennessee Titans at... An interesting match up of... Justin: ...Titans. Yeah, they finally listened to the Jekkhingen podcast. All these coaches listened to the Jekkhingen podcast. They get these good ideas and then they start winning. They start Vince Young, they win a game. So I'm gonna stay with them. Star Prince Young win another game even though San Francisco has Alex Smith starting and looking decent. I'm gonna go with Tennessee. Jake: Yeah thank God we're not picking all the same. No San Francisco at home they'll win. They had a good battle this last week against the Colts. They actually almost won. Um, so they I think they were up for a lot of it. I like San Francisco. Frank course seems to be back Alex Smith seems to found his groove get his you know how Stella got his groove back. Um, so I'll pick 49ers Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles Justin: Eagles with the Eagles they looked really good and I never really think Dallas is all that good Jake: Dallas has actually been playing pretty well. They've got that Miles Austin who seems to be playing out of his flipping mind, which is great. But yeah, the Eagles, they play well at home. I think they're riding it. I think they're getting in their full steam. He's amazing. He's amazing. He is faster than fuck. I don't know how fast it is or fast fuck it is. He is faster. Yeah, he's faster than that. Justin: He's really fast. Jake: So that's a Sunday night match up. That's actually a good Sunday night match up. There's some good games this week. There's some real shit games, but there's some good games. That's a Sunday night match up. And then Monday night, another good match up. Pittsburgh going out to Denver to take on the, now having taken their first loss, Denver Broncos. those. really good match up like you say all the Pittsburgh's I think coming off a buy. So they're you know rested up going to Denver Mile High Stadium, Denver off a loss. Like Denver. What do you think? Ah, good. Our second our second our second date. No, if there's another team in the league in the NFL that plays like Baltimore, it's Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh plays like Baltimore. They play the tough, tough defense.
00 Jake: They run the ball at you, and they have enough weapons on offense to make you pay. I think Pittsburgh shows it to them and puts them down. There you go. There's our picks. Now let's go to the one AFC's matchup, a real big one. The Miami Dolphins come back up after defeating the New York Schmetz and take on. That's what I call the Mets. Justin: I don't know. Jake: And take on the New England Patriots who are off there by. Dolphins are now... Justin: There's no fucking way that the Dolphins are beating the Patriots this week. Let me just scream that out loud. There's no fucking way that the Dolphins are beating... The Patriots this week. I don't care. It's not happening. I don't understand how they even just beat us. They are not good. And Ted Ginn Jr. sucks. Fuck him. He touched the ball twice. Two kickoffs. He touched the ball no other times. Isn't he a receiver? Jake: He got demoted and then he runs two back for touchdown. Yeah, hard to pick against the Patriots at home, colder weather. I will say, Miami almost always, and as much as I hate Miami, and God I hate them nowadays, Miami always plays Patriots really tough. even when Miami sucks, they always find a way to at least split with them. So, you remember last year was the year that Miami brought out the Wildcat and beat the Patriots in New England. So it's not like it hasn't been done. I think Miami probably runs the Wildcat better than it does, but again, the way to shut down the recipe for the shutting down the Wildcat is now available online at www.saints.com. They figured. They figured it out. They gave us the recipe. We figured it out. And I I don't think Bill Belichick is stupid enough not to look it up and put it into play. No I think. What was that website again? Those two rookie. Yeah there it is. It's Sains.com slash wildcat slash recipe. Okay it's one stop resource for dating services. So give me a score. Give me a final score. Cause that's what I was supposed to do. Justin: A lot to a little. Like a whole lot. Although the Dolphins have scored 30 points in their last four games. I don't even think that they're gonna see how many I think they're gonna score 17 and I think that England's gonna score 38 Jake: I will say dolphins scored 24 New England 42 42 to 24. And that there ends our throne picks. No, not at all.
