03 Jake: This is episode 61 of the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Thursday December 17th, 2009. Brace yourself. of the women. Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. As always, heading into the, man, the very end of the season. It feels like just yesterday we started up. It's Jake, and joining me on multiple digital aisles today is Justin. Justin, how are you doing? Justin: Very well, thank you. Enjoy the eject game over the weekend, enjoy the holiday festivities. Everything's going according to plan right now. We're winning games. That's all I care about. Jake: Yes, well winning is three in a row. So let's just start with a little, you know, let's give our condolences to the Henry family. And, you know, it's sort of a tragedy that happens. It's not really focusing on jets other than it happened. so you know certainly don't want to ignore that news but are you going to hold just a family and friends who and teammates um yeah onto the uh more interesting topic of the new york jets yeah well that's the beauty is we can watch out for nice topic so let's talk about Let's talk a little bit of gender. We're gonna tell the Jets versus Bucks We're gonna pick our night and play the game was all we'll see who did best in the week 14 thrown picks Then we'll go on to pick the entire NFL Week for week 15 including the AFC East which will actually give scores for and then we'll wrap it up Gotcha. Yeah, it was forget the scores. Yeah, I know it's tough It's always tough to remember the thing that you knew. Alright, so let's talk a little bit about the Tampa Bay game. This is a game that we had to win. In fact, every game that we won, we didn't even get a shot at the playoffs. We had to win it. And we won it. I mean, it wasn't a great game to watch, unless you're a Jet fan. I went back and re-watched the... We watched the you know the recap of it and I was like well This is as a jet fan great game is anybody else watching the world worst game ever and it was really It was really a killin consequences, you know, Sanchez was held out and I didn't play I think when we recorded it we thought he would play we are And he didn't play. So Kellen Cummins came in and what do you think? Justin: I'll tell you one thing. I'm just going to read, I'm just going to say some words. Interception. Punt. Punt. Punt. Punt. Punt. Punt. And half.
05 Justin: That was the first half for Tampa Bay. That's pretty awesome. I know Tampa stinks, but I think our defense came and showed you what and how dominant they could be against mediocre teams. Like, they did this to Oakland. They've now done this to Tampa. I'm pretty sure if they played Kansas City or Cleveland, they would do this too. I think at this point the defense is where I thought it would be in the beginning of the season and in the preseason. They are one of the top three defenses in the league, I believe. Jake: I think this is what's nice about this game. I mean, again, offensively it was not a game of interest. It was a running game. But we kept them. I thought, that's interesting, but that they didn't get their first first down to the third quarter. And it was on a penalty. And it was on a penalty. a real first out. That's stunning. It shows to me that this defense is the real deal. And again, hats off to Dorell Rivas. And now, Rivas Island, we were tweeting during the game, I will say, here's the thing about Dorell Rivas that's stunning me. Is that I don't feel, and maybe you can come up with an example. Um When has the Jets or when have the Jets had a not a good player? We've had plenty of good players. We've had great players. Darrell Reavis is an elite player. He is elite that he is one of a few people to play at this level ever. Right. It's it's it's he's he plays at a level that just. You just don't hear about and I know I'm you know, I'm a jet fan so I'm going over the top But it's not it like he is really an elite player and it's amazing To have as a jet fan to have a guy who is literally playing at such a level And I and I've been trying to think back like when have we had? You know a player who's been like that. I mean Curtis Martin great player, you know Hall of Famer Not elite, you know? It's kind of like having Peterson or something, although he's not playing elite this year, but having just someone who's just... Justin: There were a couple of guys who've had good seasons, like Dorell where this is having a really good season, but... You could see that Reavis is going to have a really good career. I mean, he had a good year last year, had a good year in his rookie year. The only guy that I could think of recently that was, you know, in this class at least, would be someone like maybe even a Kishon Johnson. If you can remember how good he was for those few years when he was really coming into his own as a wide receiver going over the middle, being that big. big target for Vinny Testiverdi. I mean, but Dorell Rivas is really playing on a whole
04 Justin: another level. He's taking guys that are on, that are at the top of their games and the top of their positions and basically shutting them down. Like he's taking guys like the TOs, the Randy Mosses, the Antonio Bryant's who's not great but... is a number one receiver and it has had a couple weeks in a row where he had a hundred yard games and scored some touchdowns And is basically turning them into mediocre players non-factors So so it really changes the entire game when the other team's Factor guy it guy is not able to to do anything. It's going to be interesting to see what happens in the upcoming weeks because the next three weeks they play teams with really very good number one receivers so it'll be interesting to see how he matches up against Roddy White, how he matches up against Reggie Wayne, how he matches up against Ocho Cinco. I think he's going to fare pretty well. I'm really, really looking forward to Ocho Cinco. I really hope Ocho Cinco plays the whole game, and I hope that Revus just... no catches. Like, that'll just be the best. Jake: Yeah, no- or like two catches from like 240 yards or something. No, it is stunning. And again, the overall, I was a believer. I thought that Rex Ryan would bring a defense that would be good. I thought top 10, top 5 if we're lucky. We have a shutdown in some ways. Even though we don't have the personnel. We have the Baltimore Ravens defense. We have that number one defense. We have a defense that literally can keep teams to doing nothing. Now granted, sometimes we're playing against teams who show up our defense. And I don't think a defense can play every lights out, every game. But what I love about this game, and again, not much a great game, but we can move off of it quickly. But the one thing that Thomas Jones running, all that. But I also like that this is a team now that I'm beginning to trust that if it comes to a game that they should win That they're gonna win like the Oakland game That's usually the game that the Jets have the old the old same way. Did they lose it? They dominated now Justin: We did have some moments this year where we were saying same old Jets You know, they were three no then, you know, they kind of slipped and fell below 500 but For the most part, I think you're right You're starting to even trust that with a backup quarterback They're gonna go on the road and their defense is that good that they're gonna win the game And not only did they win this game. I mean they they truly dominated this game with Kellen Clemens looking
04 Justin: pedestrian pedestrian at best he's not yeah he is a backup quarterback he is not a starting quarterback not for this team for anyone anyone still out there who thinks that Sanchez because of his interception games and mistakes in certain games should be on the bench, you are completely mistaken. There's no way Kellen Clemens at this very moment is better than Mark Sanchez. Jake: Sanchez is better right now by far. Yeah, and again, and it's about making the throws. It's about talking presence. Yeah, it's about timing. Yeah, and this guy's 20-20. Justin: Kellen Clemens is just off. He's like, he's sort of slow. Like, I don't understand like... He's got a great arm. You can throw the shit out of the ball, but, you know, he doesn't throw it. So it's like, yeah, there's no trust there, I guess. Jake: And I will say he did the one thing that we wanted him to do in this game. Right. We want him to do one thing. Now, don't. No interceptions. Justin: And in fact, sacked only once. You know, he didn't he he. He didn't lose them the game. He basically said, here's the ball. We're going to run the ball 40 times. And you know, we're going to run the ball for $1.75 because we're the best running team in the league. And that's what we do. And we play defense. And we're going to start it at the 50. And you're going to start at the 20. And that's how the game's going to go. and we dictated it and we won it because we played Rex Ryan Jets football. So that was good. Alright, so wrap it up and give me the night and the play of the game. Sure. I thought that there were lots of potential plays of the game. I thought there were, you know, like we've said, you could give Dorell Reavis the night almost every week at this point. But I'm going to give it to Brad Smith, because I thought Brad Smith had a really good game. He had a great special teams game, both coverage wise and pulling off a fake punt for a first down, which was a really nice little play that you always have to look out for that when you're playing against the Jets. And they must have figured, you know, our defense is playing so good, may as well just fake punt. Who cares? Um... They're not they're not going down. They're not gonna score anyway, so Brad Smith plus he ran a couple really nice option plays Out of the shotgun and Wildcat he was actually a factor in the game because of Clemens you know so he had to step up and and and you know, be a bigger part of the game plan. So he had five rushes, he even caught the ball, I think, once or twice. So Brad Smith's my knight, because he was kind of all over the place. And my play of the game was the first play from scrimmage.
04 Justin: David Harris's interception of Josh Freeman. It set the tone for the whole game. We've seen Sanchez do it. where the rookie comes out and just throws a pick in the first play of the game or very early on in the game and it sets the tone for that game and that's what happened during this game Harris, Freeman thought he looked him off Harris sort of made the move sort of but then knew exactly what Freeman was doing went right back to the other receiver through the ball right to Harris Freeman thought he looked him off he didn't even know he was there um and and the rest was sort of history from there it was domination so that's my play of the game Jake: yeah I'm gonna wrap my play of the game and and uh and uh and night of the game into one because it's sort of it is one thing which is uh... i'm really i feel it's two weeks in a row he's been in the night well because you think about it this is the time that the if you're gonna be that team that's gonna be low scoring and keep them low scoring you basically going to get a lot of field goals right your quarterback's not going to be throwing bombs you're not going to be to a lot of people but again he was been very consistent yes he missed one uh... but one of five uh... and he's consistent he's putting points on the board and that's how these games are one uh... you know so i give him the the play the game work uh... all his field goals you get them all uh... and then he certainly gets my night the game i will say interesting uh... combination or or connection between the uh... uh... oakland game and the Tampa Bay game. What's that first play? Because remember, the Oakland game, first play, we kick it off to them. They're going to take the ball. Jamarcus Ruckusill goes back to throw the ball. In comes Pace, knocks the ball out. We get the ball at the two. This game, it gets a really crappy team. And we went on to dominate them. And we shut them out. This game, same thing. First play of the game drops back to throw the ball interception. Like, in both those games, the games we should have dominated, we absolutely just took over from the first play first play on the game so uh... interesting that they both cast started that way and would have been shut out and i a you know in the news today uh... rax ryan has said that uh... bar scott has to uh... by a uh... against game balls for all the defense because he gives a game ball to everybody in the defense if they Do a shout out. So since. since it was sort of his fault that they didn't do a shutout uh... that's kinda interesting right i like that i'd like the ways coaching me again you know for a rookie winning is better Justin: uh... and you need to win ten games his his first season so let's see if rex can can get there uh... you know i will say yeti he didn't do it he didn't do it with a rookie quarterback experience quarterback but he did do it with the rookie coach right off
02 Justin: coordinator. But anyway one one final sort of thing about About this game, you know Danny Woodhead was almost our leading receiver Jake: You know, I was he was almost he was almost gonna be my my pack use to be my pick uh... but i'd like it i like i like what he brings Justin: really good i like i like strong interesting using the change of change of pace but he fumbles man Jake: yet but i think he never i don't give a shit about never had a problem so jagovish Justin: about what i know doing against bigger stronger guys in the pros Jake: he he he won't fumble again that's not he better not i mean i just wrote it down Justin: basically three straight games Jake: three times and again no thomas jones doesn't thomas jones has fumbled he doesn't martin didn't that's the thing he's fumbled well he fumbled like once a season Yeah, but Thomas Jones has, I think he's fumbled a couple times, but he's always gotten it back. And no one remembers the time you fumble and don't lose the ball. No one cares. In fact, if he ended up with that ball on the 5 yard line after he busts a 23 yard or 30 yard run, no one would have given a crap that he fumbled it. But I agree. He's got to stop it. Oh, and by the way, sorry. That's the game. We won. Justin: I won the last thing after the war last thing. I think I did say the score was going to be 26-6. So that was pretty close. Jake: Yeah, you were pretty close. But since you don't write down your scores, it's kind of hard to just eat that up. Yeah, I might have said the exact same. actually write mine down and I predicted 31 10 so that's close close to Justin: so what's so happy last week that's a good good segue we're getting better at Jake: this good good segue I did very well I didn't you know what you went 12 like I would again you you won and I went nine for seven so that was two weeks on you Justin: now with three weeks to go you're in trouble Jake: Except for you didn't play for a couple of weeks. Do whatever. Next year it's on. I'm just saying. Next year it's on. So let's talk about this week. Let's talk about the picks. First of all, let's talk a little bit about the playoff line. So basically, the Jets are having things go their way. Jacksonville losing to Dolphins. That went their way. You know, even the game that's happening tonight, Colts. Good on the schedule. We want the Colts to. Thank you. You know, but it's been happening like a couple of these games and go in the way that so now we're all caught up We're all we need to we need to go ahead, but it's interesting Say this I still think it's a long there's I Justin: Don't even want to look at the other teams because I know that I don't think we have very many scenarios where we win tie breaks, so
02 Justin: We've only overtaken it. And they're out of it. Jake: Yeah, I know. But this one that we tightened to someone else that we beat. But no, everybody else we don't. I just want to concentrate on saying, you know what? Justin: Let's go 10 and 6. And if we go 10 and 6, and we don't make the playoffs, then... Okay, but if you go ten and six, that's a good season Jake: Yeah, no if we go ten well ten six and I mean in the ass It's a good light and for this team if we lose if we win that we win the last six games Versus if our season and get close to going the playoffs. Yeah, I agree I you know, I'm not gonna say I'm totally excited about that. I'd love to go into the playoffs but Yeah, you know again, I picked 8 and 8. I think you picked 10 and 6. So we'll see how close we get. Justin: Let's get there. Jake: All right, so let's go. Let's pick this game. Justin: So there's a game that's about to kick off in about 20 minutes. Jake: So let's pick that game first. I think it starts in 20 minutes. Let's pick that game first. And let's pick it quick. We're going to pick the rest of the NFL first. We're going to come back into the AFCE games. With scores a little bit more in depth. So undefeated Colts. Not two undefeated teams, this is huge, do you rest here? That's actually just a little question, quick question. What do you think? Should you go, so if you're the Colts of the Saints, should you go undefeated? Should you try to go undefeated, or should you rest and rest up for the playoffs? Justin: Gotta go for it. Both teams. Now that's if I'm, if I'm a fan of either team. I do not want to lose. Go 16 and 0. At this point, you're so close. Now, I'll say this. What I think they'll do. Indy is going to do their thing. They're going to rest guys. And if they happen to go 16 and 0, which we know they're not because they play us next week, but if they happen to go 16 and 0, then they happen to go 16 and 0. But they're going to do their... end of the season thing. They've already clinched home field. They don't need to worry about a thing right now and they do not need an injury. So they're gonna do what they always do. New Orleans on the other hand is gonna go for it. They are not resting guys. That means something to them. They are going for it and they want to win the Super Bowl and be that team. So, I mean, I actually kind of... I just wish the Colts didn't play the Jets because if they didn't, I would say I'd be rooting as a football fan for them both to go undefeated and meet in the Super Bowl. Because, god damn it, that would be the best Super Bowl ever. If they wouldn't score 80 points combined, too, I mean, that could be one of the greatest Super Bowls ever. Jake: That's actually a nice thought. I don't think it'll happen. But yeah, interesting. I agree. I think there's a, you know, I've gone back and forth, and you know, is this about winning the Super Bowl? Is it about winning this? I think the thing that someone said this morning, and I was watching one of these things, they said, it's about winning. And you should always be playing to win.
01 Jake: and And you know what? You know, there's no theories on when you get hurt or how you get hurt. And the people who've been on those teams, they say, just play to win. It's about winning. So play to win. Getting the 16-0s in accomplishment, I would go for all of it. I think they should. And I think we'll see tonight. I'm hoping they do. Because let's kick it off. Because we got the Colts going to Jacksonville. Justin: We need a bzzz. we need to win like I just don't want to look at these other games but if I have to I'm gonna look at them and I'm pick the Colts to win the game picking with the heart picking with the brain Jake: going with the Colts yeah I mean it's kick off in literally just 20 minutes so I do I think the Colts will win this game and I'm happy for it. Then we got Dallas Again, Dallas is reeling. They had the division kind of to themselves and they've given it away now. And they're still in the fight, but they got to go to New Orleans now and play the Saints. So again, at home the Saints are playing a much better ball. Justin: The Saints who almost lost to Atlanta last week with their back of quarterback who's going to play in the Jets this week, I hope. Um... It is December, it's December 17th, so Dallas loses. Go in New Orleans. Jake: Yeah, I think Saints are gonna, if the Saints were on the road in this one I might think, but I've also picked Dallas a couple times a win, they've let me down, so Saints win. Then we have the Cardinals, who had just laid an egg on Monday Night Football with the 49ers, going to Detroit. Yeah, I think so. to win. Then we have Houston, the Texans, going to St. Louis to take on the Rams. Rams? Rams, probably one of the worst. Can you name their quarterback? Yep. Justin: But I don't care. No, is it Bultur? No. Can you name the guy? I don't know. His name is Noll or something like that. Okay, I'm not even sure. Not gonna win. So I'm gonna pick Houston. Jake: Agreed. Packers, who are actually in the hunt, not only in the hunt there, they're doing pretty well. They've kind of kicked it over, going to Pittsburgh, who again has lost. Pittsburgh's lost to Casey Oak. I actually did Cleveland. Yeah, you did. Really good call. What do you think? Justin: Um, you know if Pittsburgh's ever going to win a game, it would be this one against a good team because they'd get themselves up for it. But again, without Palmo, that is such a different team. I am picking Green Bay because Aaron Rodgers is a good quarterback.
05 Jake: Yeah, everyone's just getting rid of the ball quick. He's not getting a million sacks as he was. Pittsburgh's just not the team they were. And it looks like they're not going well. They're definitely not going well. So yeah, I think Green Bay wins. Then we got the Patriots. I'm not going to talk about that game. We got the 49ers. Tease. We got the 49ers. 49ers in Philly against the Eagles. Justin: This week against the Giants on the road on Sunday night. Oh, they look good offensively. I don't know if they look good defensively. Just good. Flat out good. And that Deshaun Jackson is a star. He is really good. So I'm going to pick Philly to beat. to beat Sam's Grand. Jake: West Coast team coming across, affiliate home in the cold. 49ers off a Monday night game, no way. Philadelphia wins. Then we have the Cleveland Browns, who's up against KCC. Justin: It's pretty much the uh, the Barnwares game of the week, I think. Jake: Here's what someone said today, said, this game was being played in my bathroom, my clothes drawer. Great line. Justin: Oh my gosh. Can they tie 0-0? I'll pick Kansas City just because they're home. Got no other reason. Jake: Yeah, KC at home. Don't care anything about that game. Chicago at Baltimore. Justin: You know, I really want to pick Chicago. But I can't. Gotta pick Baltimore at home. Chicago. go. has nothing. They're really, really not a good team. So, Baltimore. Jake: Yeah, if this is, we would love to have Chicago win this game, I don't think it's going to happen. And same thing with this next game, Oakland at Denver. You know, you just love for Oakland to come up there and beat Denver, but don't think it's going to happen. Justin: Yeah, and they've already named Charlie Fry their starting quarterback, not Marcus Russell for this. upcoming week. That just means really bad thing for Russell, the number one overall pick. No more than a couple years ago. I mean look, anyone can always turn it around. Alex Smith did. He looked pretty good the other night for San Francisco. He's the number one overall pick, but this guy's not very good. So Denver, I think Denver will have their way with Charlie Fry and the Oakland Raiders. Jake: I picked Kyle Orton as my stutter dead this week running out of people but I did pick him so Denver wins Then we got the Bengals no longer the bungles Which would be you know sad of heart going to play all the way across country against, San Diego Justin: Yeah, really good. They are really hard to beat in December and really just hard to beat in general this season.
00 Justin: They're really humming along. It's a good game. I think Cincinnati's coming off of a loss, are they not? They just got beaten pretty hard on the road in Minnesota. So I'm gonna pick San Diego to win this game as well. Jake: Yeah, I agree. I think this is a... I mean, it'll be an emotional game, but I think it's a new one in that game. Justin: Never forget about that emotional piece, because the news kind of just came out. Maybe that does sway it a little bit. I'll stick with San Diego. Sorry, thank you. Jake: Then you got the Bucks who again just laid an egg against the Jets heading up to Seattle who played a... yeah, agreed. And I would say the same for the next. Minnesota going for the runner. Justin: Yeah, this is a shitty Sunday night game. Why didn't they flip this out? Would they want F.A.R.F.? Jake: I don't know, I mean, any of the games... There's plenty of games, there's plenty of better games. Justin: I mean, there's an AFC East game, the Miami, Tennessee game would be a nice one. Jake: Even Packers, Pitts, Brad would be a better game. Justin: There's a couple, or Dallas, New Orleans is pretty good. Or, you know... Oh, is that in Saturday? No, Dallas, New Orleans is Saturday, can't flip a Sunday. It's a Saturday game, I think. I'll go with Minnesota to win this game. Jake: Yeah, and then little fun, I agree. Wow, we've agreed on everything. Then... Oh wow, well I see they're good with that. Giants who have not been playing very well, have been losing a lot of games, are kind of kicking themselves out of the playoffs, but they saw a shot going to play their rivals who have not been playing bad. You know, Washington's put up some kind of a couple fights here. You know, they almost beat the... the Saints two weeks ago and they're putting up a fight. They beat up on, I think, someone bad last week, maybe Rams or something. So what do you think happened to your Monday Night Football? Justin: I've been burned by the Giants, but I'm going to stick with them. I don't quite understand why they're not clicking and why they're not better than they are. I watch every giant game as explained before, you know, being here in New York. uh... i'll pick on i'm picking the giants Jake: yeah i'll pick the giants and i'd i'd i'd too you know i don't not not feeling it with them this year but you know i can i can't seem going to lose in this game i think the hang around just close enough to not make the playoffs but i don't think that men are now space here we go Let's talk about the... Let's do it. AFC East, we got three match ups because two are playing each other. So let's first, let's talk about the Dolphins taking on the Titans. So this is a game that we actually want Titans who we beat pretty badly. I think Vince Young is back to practicing but it's kind of up in the air who starts.
00 Jake: So the Titans have been playing very good with their runner, Chris Johnson. Dolphins won a close one last week against Jacksonville, helping us out. What do you think happens here? Give me a game to use for that. Justin: Alright, I think, because Tennessee is home for this game, I think they're going to get up for it and win it. I'm picking with the heart a little bit, but also with the brain here. I think Tennessee's gonna be able to run the ball in Miami. Vince Young's gonna be able to play, I believe, and do some things. And they're just playing so well. They're playing like. Thank you. that team that started last season 10-0 and finished 13-3 and and is really just that they've got their kind of swagger back they just killed a team that they should kill you know this is not this is not no in 16 Tennessee so I'm gonna pick Tennessee at home to beat Miami in a game that I think is gonna be pretty close though. uh... was funky like twenty one nineteen games Jake: nice uh... you know i agree i think this i think tightness when this game uh... i will offer a little bit of you know heart in there but also some head i mean the you got chris johnson is really i don't i don't think who cares who starts the as a quarterback it's kinda like the jets their defense the Titans defense has been playing better. the second half of the year so i think that's what they're gonna lie on uh... dolphins have been playing streaky i mean ricky williams gave up a fumble ball three times i think last week uh... you know chad he's been playing well but then you know you have a good day and then they have a bad day uh... i think that tightens at home i think that's too much for the match i think tightens win twenty one seventeen so you uh... you watch every then I don't watch every dolphin game because it's generally on when the Jets are playing. So obviously if I'm at the game I don't watch it. But we do have two screens in the living room to watch both games. So I'm usually watching one and then kind of watching her game. or the end of the dolphin game. But I mean, if it's, you know, the Jets are really playing, I'm not watching it. I was gonna ask how Ricky Lewis looks. Justin: I would, because I've just seen the stats and they look great, so... Jake: No, he's looked really good. He's looked like Ricky of old. I mean, again, other than, you know, sort of the fumbling last week. And they asked him to do... more with the wildcat which is not really great for him, he can't throw the ball, but he's worked really good. They've got a good running game going and they've really switched from this wildcat offense now to just letting Chad Henne throw the ball and it's working. And their defense is, you know, playing enough to keep them in the game so so they're an interesting one. I know some Jet fans would love to see a rematch, right? Have us both get in the playoffs and meet up. in uh in dolf and dolf hand land and take them out of it i think we definitely have
01 Jake: to win the division patriots so here we go patriots at buffalo this is one of their losses one of those losses oh is one of the three two that happened to win the division Justin: i think the bills beat them here Jake: You know, they had them in the first week. The Bills are just not consistent enough to win a game. So you're calling the Pats to lose this game? Oh man, alright, give me a score. Justin: I think that the... You're like, oh man. I really think that the Bills can pull this off at home. Just ridiculous. Seriously, the Bills really do play. The Pats pretty tough at home. So I think the Bills are going to win. I think they're going to win 28-27. 27. Jake: It's gonna be awesome. Yeah, I just I can't I can't can't pick against the pads again and again And I don't think that they're gonna lose this game and as much as fractured They're done much as I'd love to have them. I Agree, I think everything is right for the picking But all you need to do is throw that ball twice to to Randy Moss and have him catch it out of the 16 times He drops it doesn't matter. I think Patriots win this 31 13 All right, then we have the game of the week. Which for the first time, I will not be going to the game. In a long time. Game of the decade. I know. I will actually be going, I will be on a vacation. And in fact, we'll see if we can actually get together somehow to do a podcast next week. Well, I don't know if that's going to be possible. But if it is possible, we'll get one out. If not, we'll see you in two weeks. Good part is you'll be able to watch your games. Justin: I will say you'll be aboard some some cruise ship. Yes Yeah, they usually have the Sunday tickets on those suckers Jake: I've been on a okay good. Well, then I hope I can and then I hope I can go yeah because I'm you know We have to get on so that a bar. Um, it's with the Falcons, you know, raking The news on the Falcons is that Turner and And Ryan, I think, just started today. Don't know if that means they're going to play or not. But this is not the Falcons from last year, your Falcons. This is the Falcons of this year where their past defense is horrible. Their run defense is very bad. And they're missing some starters on the offense. So what do you think happens here? Justin: Let's talk a little bit more about how we win. It's hard to say because it's such an off game right now from a betting perspective. Because you don't know if either starting quarterback is going to be playing in the game. So it's hard to even analyze the game right now. I'm just going to go ahead and assume that... Sanchez is gonna start He was he started practicing if I'm not mistaken As well
00 Justin: He took 75% of the stamps today. I think he's gonna play they're gonna play their game the Jets. They're gonna run the ball They're gonna pound on Atlanta even if it doesn't work early, they're gonna keep doing it They're gonna they're gonna Throw short passes, you know little slant routes and this and that And minimize the errors just like they did last week and I think that their their defense is just gonna be able to shut down Atlanta because Either way if it's a backup quarterbacking Chris running, I think his name is The Jets will eat that up. And if it's Matt Ryan, he's coming off of a pretty bad foot injury so he's not gonna be able to move as well as he should you would assume and we're just gonna get to him so I really do feel like our defense can win games right now And and that's how this team is built So I think we're gonna win, and I think we're gonna win something like you know uh... seventeen six like i don't even think it was a score touchdown woof Jake: house and he said yeah i i think the little bit better i think it'll be a little bit i think they will score a touchdown uh... we have had problems with the running a good running back in the end turner come back and kinda can turn it up Then I'll get it turn it up, then I think that they can score I great again. This is pretty much he yes the I a I remember let me go back to podcast where you like we gotta get this guy he's he's behind the Damien Tom's he's the best guy ever yeah Justin: you want to go home now oh cuz you were saying he's got a way to back up and the Jets had a shot at them you know I didn't I never thought he was garbage but Jake: whatever So I don't know, I think this is going to be, yeah, the planning of the Jets now is it's not very hard to say how they win a game. In every game that we won the turnover battle, we win the game. If we throw the ball away, we lose the game. So what's the game plan? The game plan is to run the game... Make the turnovers and don't give up the turnovers. That's gonna be the game plan for I think for a long foreseeable future You know it can a little bit come back I'm a little bit worried about it because you know he has a tendency kind of he has that far Vitus where if he starts going bad he just he's like a crashing plane If he starts to throw interceptions at the beginning, like first play of the game or third play of the game, then he was going to throw like six in that game. But even then, I wouldn't be surprised, especially with Coach Ryan now and a shot at the playoffs. I think that now, if something started to go bad with Sanchez, I could see Ryan pulling him and say, no, no, no, you get out of here. We're not winning a game like this. No way. No. No, I can totally see it. Absolutely not.
01 Jake: I'm not going to say it's going to happen, but I'm saying if Sanchez gets that in, like, you know, if he just starts to lose it and he starts to throw interceptions, I don't think that's going to happen. I think Jets win 23-13. They'll score a touchdown and two field goals. Maybe the touchdown will be late in the game when it doesn't really matter. You know, Jets aren't really. don't know what a point lately so far twenty three thirteen jet twin and uh... you'll be at the game so and uh... uh... does yet that was not so that all right and now we got some uh... we got some groups question questions we do i got to have uh... that's that's some that's a sorry dude busy tweeting I know so we got a one from Rick Clemens asking I guess spelled with an O with Vernon ghost in quotes being a busted linebacker interesting why don't the Jets try him at end his natural position We need the pass rush. So the question there is, why don't they put Gholston back in at defensive end and run him there? What do you think? Justin: Because he sucks. Jake: Yeah, he's just not effective enough. And with Pace there, Pace is strong enough to do it. He's actually making it. He gets to the quarterback. Justin: Gholston has like 6 and 1 by 6 and 1 by 7 sacks this season. that's not too terrible and and david harris has picked it up and and had a bunch of sacks whereas he hasn't really rushed the quarterback ever before and they blitz from all over the place i don't know if we really you know i don't think the pass rush is the problem with the jets uh... we get to the quarterback Jake: well it's not with the number one the number one defense of the league what's the problem with our defense Justin: That we don't need to try Vernon Gholston at end. when we have, you know, Marcus Douglas is like an interesting thing. Help stop the run. And Ellis is the same. You know, the blitzing comes from the linebackers and the safeties. Jake: And realistically, you know, it'll be interesting to see how we deal with Gholston, you know, is it just literally they're just going to say, OK, you know, you're just not worth the money. We're paying you. We're just going to take the loss. Justin: So you can just it is an uncapped year Jake: Interesting I don't know I don't know if that I don't know how that works All right. Well, so thanks Rick for sending your question. Hope we answered it. We got another one from Newton Heathen who asks Jet Kingdom, what are your thoughts on games being played in the UK? I'm from the UK and I'm against it Unrelated I know, but I'd like to know. Well, Newton, why don't you, uh... If he's against it, then... What does Justin think? Justin: I would say, fuck it. If they don't want it, then why are we shoving it down their throats?
01 Justin: It's kinda... kinda silly. Hahaha. I personally don't mind it. I don't like the idea, though, of... Taking someone's home game and stripping it from them So I don't like the idea of if the Jets were going over there and the Jets were the home team I would hate that so in a way I kind of hate it in a way I don't mind it so much because it gets the game, you know out there kind of like what the NBA did 10 15 years ago and it's made the NBA a lot better or a lot more global so the best players in the world come and play in the NBA football is really an American sport unlike you know soccer or or basketball at this point so that that's my thoughts on it if the Jets were playing their home game there I'd really hate it Jake: Yeah, I mean, a couple different ways to look at this. So you've looked at it from the jet point of view, which is, you know, interesting, I guess. Another way to look at it is from the NFL point of view, which is that, you know, the Jets play within a league, obviously, the National Football League. And in some ways, you know, we want that league to do well, right? If the league does well and this sport becomes bigger and more people view it and whatever, over. It then keeps the sport alive and keeps people and advertisers and you know and TV and it becomes bigger and bigger. So in some ways I do want it to become more global. I want there to be more people watching this around the world. I love that concept. But then as a practical matter, yeah, you know, do I want? Do I want to give up my game? No, I don't. Would I want to have one game every five years, six years? Sure. Hell, I'll even go. I mean, I think we were talking about going a couple years ago when the Giants were going to go. We were going to fly over there. So I could certainly see going to a Jets game on the road. . But listen, the other thing is that they're not talking about doing it for just random teams. They're talking about, and this is where I think it becomes really bad for somebody, kind of what the Bills are doing, but over across, you know, instead of across with the lake, they're doing it across the ocean, which is taking a team, one team, and saying, we're going to build your base in London or in the UK. So we're going to take you and consistently put you over there. So then you get a following, right? That the group, that it's not just fans going to see any old NFL game, it's the fans going to see their team. Whether it's the whatever it is, you know, I don't know who it is. But I think that's interesting. Again, if it's some other team, if it's some other team, again, the bill's doing in Toronto. I don't care. You guys want to play in Toronto? Play in Toronto. tell. You know, if we do that, if we play up there once every two years, fine. Justin: But I was, you know, there's a scenario that that I think where it would work. And I think that there's really only one scenario where I think it would really work.
00 Justin: And that is if you took a division and put four teams over there. And that levels it because at that point you have teams there They have their own little six games against each other rivalry deal which gets regional stuff going and At least you have more teams that are just there you're not taking teams from here I mean you might take teams from here and just move them there which would you know someone like the bills to has diminishing fan base and it sucked for off a low but you know or you expand right did the league is expanding so Jake: you're expanding stuff to be in their division or right so but but no no those four teams that go over there Justin: are is the the division right so there their own division So it wouldn't be like the bills moved over there and the jets are still in their division. No, no, no. You'd refactor the whole, you know, the whole thing. So so that one division would just be over there and you'd have four teams and they would have to obviously travel over here once in a while and teams from here would obviously have to travel over there once in a while. But you'd try and, you know, prevent it from. you know, really prevent it from maybe having like the West Coast teams go over there. I don't really know how you would do that fairly. I'm not trying to make a schedule now, but I think that would be the only scenario where I would like it where there'd be like a whole division of teams over there and they have their own little rivalries and regional stuff. Jake: Yeah, I mean, again, I think we all want the NFL to do better. We all just don't want it to affect our team. Yeah, if the NFL does better, more is good, but don't make my team have to sacrifice their home teams, take it away from me as a fan, as a local fan. That would be very, very frustrating. Anyway, good question, like it. And hey wait, I'm just happy that we have a listener from the UK. Let's give ourselves props for that. I didn't even process that. Justin: Wow, I wonder if they're a listener or if they just follow the tweets. You'll have to let us know.
