00:03 Jake: This is episode 65 of the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Monday January 18th, 2010. Thanks Nate. Justin: of the women. Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom Podcast. Wow. That's all I have to say. Yep, and we're done. Yeah. As always on this side of the stunned just stunned aisle It's Jake and joining me probably has done probably with his less or less sleep than I've actually had Um is Justin Justin. How you doing? Uh words cannot describe how great I feel today. I I Euphoria perhaps is the word I was looking for. Um I did scream at the top of my lungs yesterday for about 10 straight minutes after the game was over and could not get to sleep till about 3 o'clock from the adrenaline rush. It was amazing. I agree. I did get to sleep. It was a tiring day. I think around 10 o'clock this morning, the euphoria went away, and the reality and the nervousness started. For all you Jet fans out there, I know that as the game gets closer and closer, you're getting more and more nervous about the game. This is becoming less of like, well, if we win it, we win it. cut and more of a oh my god we are one game away from going to the Super Bowl, something that most Jet fans have never seen in their lifetime. Those that are still alive. Certainly the ones that are on this podcast here have never seen in their lifetime. So let's get right to the game. We'll actually do a little agenda, what we will discuss. We'll discuss obviously, Jess versus Chargers. We'll pick our play and native of the game. We'll talk about the other playoff games or some other happenings, kind of interesting things. We'll discuss our thrown picks, what happened last week. And we'll make our thrown picks for the upcoming game. We'll answer some tweets, and then we'll wrap it up so you can get six more days to get ready for the game. So. So, uh... Yeah. I mean, it's almost hard to talk about this game, because all the hype leading up to the game was, how are these little tiny small corners going to cover all these huge weapons that are on the San Diego Chargers? It was the San Diego Chargers, the hottest thing in football, the hottest thing in the AFC.
03:01 Jake: 11 games in a row. They, you know, Jets have a good defense, but will not be able to stop the San Diego charger offense. And then comes this game and almost if you had to say that there's a game that went exactly the way the Jets drew it up, I think this was the game. Like even even as watching it, I'm thinking when they went to the half and I'll get your thoughts in a second. but when they went to the half and they're down by seven. After you know, Katie misses the field cause like this is exactly what we wanted I'm not yeah, we're down in points, but we've held this this offense for an entire half to seven points and That's huge. So and in fact only give up seven more in the second half So I mean like that's exactly what we want to do. We know we'll get there, but give me some give me some love What do you think tell me what the game? heart, you know gut-wrenching game watching the whole thing obviously you don't want to be down on the road two scores so every time I mean San Diego they they couldn't run that was a given they they were not going to be able to run and and it's kind of odd because our pass defenses are better side of sort of the better half of the defense if you want to split them in half even though it's you know it's one defense but um the the past defense is usually better than the run defense and and uh i think san diego made a big mistake in just trying to establish their running game and it just never ever happened and they were running on first down for a yard or running on second and ten for a yard and getting themselves into really bad or I should say in reverse the jets kept putting them into bad situations on like third and eights, third and nines and I think it turned out that San Diego was like four of thirteen on third down. uh... third downs uh... which is a great great stat for for jet fans obviously and and and the jets did what they do right they they came out they they ran the ball for a hundred and sixty nine yards which is what they averaged all year long they caused turnovers they won the turnover battle uh... and and they played you know they were they were patient they did what what we talk about where you know maybe they only ran for fifty yards in the first half that's okay they're going to continue to run and they're going to beat up the defense and they're going to continue to pound you and pound you and pound you until you know a fifty three yard gain pops out of nowhere and uh... And that's what happens when you wear down a defense and you have three pro bowl offensive linemen and you continue to beat on them and beat on them and beat on them, eventually you're going to bust one and that's, you know, I'll give them credit, the Jets, they had their game plan. Our game plan is up on the wall for everyone to see. We're not hiding anything from you. We're gonna run, we're gonna play defense, and Sanchez is gonna throw for 100 yards and hopefully not throw too many picks, and that's it.
06:06 Jake: So I loved the game, it was super intense. I was screaming my rear end off. Everyone in my town heard me yelling. It was a great day. Again, the NFL lucked out with the fourth game because, you know, all... This whole playoffs like those the first three games have been duds of the of the weekends Like the first three games this week were kind of duds And then this fourth one was a phenomenal game for jet fans Obviously and I think a neutral crowd would even think that this was probably the best game of the weekend Yeah, I mean certainly had the most back and forth. I mean, this is a game that the Jets were losing And I again, maybe if you're not a jet fan and you were out there you're watching that game and you went in a half And you saw seven serious. Oh, well clearly the charges are gonna win But I'll tell you as a as a jet fan at 7-0. I thought we have the best shot of win this game Then then then at that point I thought I thought at halftime we had a better shot of winning even we were losing than I did before the game started Does that make sense like that? No it does. I felt the same way going in down seven at half Or only being down the one score and knowing you know now you know okay We played like crap and we're down seven Let's go play good and win the game because the defense didn't play that great in the first half and they held them to seven And the offense played like shit in the first half and and and obviously we didn't score But only being down 7 I think was actually a confidence booster. Actually going into the half I think Rex Ryan said some similar things after the game. He was like look we went into halftime we had him where we wanted him. We were down 7 and we played one of the worst halves of football. And we know if we go out and play Jets football we can beat this team. And that's exactly what they did. Yeah, I mean, and some things that certainly strike out. I mean, Lidania Thompson is no longer. Career's done. Yeah, his career's done. He's not. He's not. He might have. He still has something in the tank, but he's not the feature back. And if anything, this was an opposing. There's a lot of these opposing teams in a lot of ways in terms of we rely only on our run. They do not. They're much more pass heavy. 3 We believe in multiple backs being almost identical backs who be able to pound the ball. They have one guy who's like kind of, they don't have a feature back. Sproles isn't that the person and Tomlinson isn't that person so you're not going to get the production. I mean, he- once and isn't that person anymore. Anymore. No, he was. He was. He certainly was. I mean, he's one of the best backs in the game for the last 10 years. He's been in the game for 10 years. And the game plan for him was really, we don't think you can run the ball, so we're going to shut that down very quickly. We think we're better on pass. We'll put him on man, and we're going to blitz the hell out of you. And if you can make those throws every single time
09:01 Jake: under pressure, then you'll beat us. And the reality is that. Thanks for watching! that Philip Rivers couldn't. Under pressure, he's supposed to be the best under pressure. Oh my god, all the things about how good he's under pressure. And he never. And he can throw the ball. I mean, not horrible numbers. I mean, 27 out of 40, 298 yards. And even if you look at the receivers, the receivers had yards. I mean. Gates 93, Jackson 111, Sproleshead 30, Floyd is 30. It was a different, it was interesting because even all the Jets players came out after the game and Rex even came out after the game and said, you know, they did change up their defensive philosophy a little bit in this game and played it a little bit differently than they've played any other game. game, whereby Revus wasn't locked up on a player this game. Revas wasn't on Vincent Jackson. That was like the big hype, right? How's Revas gonna stop this 6'6 Vincent Jackson? Well, he wasn't covering him a lot of the game. And when he did, Jackson didn't touch the ball. And you know what? The other side, wherever Revas was, the ball wasn't being caught on that side of the field. And basically they were saying, we're gonna put Revas on one side or the other. We don't care where the receivers are. and that side is going to be man and the other side we're going to play a little soft we're going to play a little zone or whatever and it seemed to confuse san diego a little bit they they called some timeouts um and and had some bad penalties um and and i remember last week uh or during the last podcast you and i were talking about you know how could the coach sort of influenced this game in a negative way from the San Diego perspective. Yes, yes. And I think you saw how that happened. He did it. He did it. You know, Norv came out and proved that he's Norv and that he's not a good playoff coach. He was not prepared for some of the things that the Jets did. His team was not disciplined. They had I think four or five personal foul penalties, which is just atrocious in the playoffs. That's 60 yards They're just giving back They had some really just really bad penalties one that comes to mind was was the the block in the back that didn't even matter Right sort of brought this brought uh almost, you know They were down on like the 10 it brought it all the way back Out to like, you know back out to the 30 something and ended up in a miss field goal, which i'm sure we'll touch on later um And, and Norv just made mistakes down the stretch too. He went for that onside kick, whereas he could have kicked it deep and gotten the ball back. A lot of really, you know, we were saying like, how does the coach really fuck up the game that bad? Well, you saw it. Norv and Wade Phillips, both of them, I don't understand why these guys still have jobs. They've both proven that we can only get you so far, which is basically to the playoffs. But you're not getting any farther than that with this. There were some things in there. Clearly, the on-side kick, everybody over guessed that. And I'll say for our side, isn't it nice to have a coach who we don't worry about his time
12:03 Jake: management? Rex did the time management on that better than it? I mean, even in the back where he took the time out, then to roll the clock down to a minute and six seconds. I mean, like. Yeah, very smart. Stop the clock. Set it up. Yeah, and and that's it no the only thing I would have the only thing I would have said that and I think I tweeted This during the game is at that point where? There was a bad spot right Dustin Kelly caught the ball He was probably within an inch of that first down when he got the ball for progress where the ball was they should have they should have And then he takes a timeout. Yeah, you don't time out you take a challenge there Yeah challenge because it then the timeout then you got the timeout if you and he I think he would have won that I think you were given they would have given him more Yardage yeah a couple more a foot or two. It was a bad spot He also might have gone for it if he thought he had a foot you might have gone Well, that's why I didn't like the timeout because he sort of talked himself out of going for it by calling the timeout Which was okay because you know what our field goal kicker? kicked a 46 yarder straight down the middle and we had the confidence to let him do that which is great. I also want to thank CBS and the directors for continuing to put stats up on the board to jinx Kading. 60 something straight under 40 he misses two. Never miss three in a game. He did that too. So thank you, CVS, for putting up the stats. My wife and I always do that. We call it the pronounce the caterer curse. And whenever a pronounce a caterer, come on. I've seen this happen with Curtis Martin. I've seen it happen with whatever. Whenever the pronounce the caterer comes on and says, something never happened or this hasn't happened in a long time, you can almost guarantee it's going to happen. And I don't know if it's just because that's what you feel like or if it just stands out to you that it happens. and It does almost feel like a guarantee if they say, if Nance says, he never misses three, he's gonna miss the three. The only thing that didn't happen was Phil Rivers throwing two. I mean he's missed, if you remember, I mean they showed it a bunch of times. You don't even have to remember, but I remembered it. clear as day when he missed the field goal uh marty ball where they were basically playing for a 40 something yard field goal and and missed um to let the Jets beat them that year and and move on to lose to Pittsburgh but uh he also did it last year in the playoffs and this is the pro bowl kicker um and and I I'm willing all pro yeah I'm willing to bet that the all pro kicker is going to be cut from his team. You cannot have him back. I'm sorry, he's lost you three playoff games. I don't give a shit if he's all-pro. If you make 69 in a row in the regular season, he lost them that game. I mean, if that game is 10-0, that's a different game than 7-0. The Jets are hard-pressed down two scores. You cannot miss 30-something yard field goals in the playoffs. You certainly can't miss two of them. So something really strikes me in this game, and I just kind of rethinking about it
15:01 Jake: I've watched so much hype and so much replay and whatever This the difference between the two teams on the field Which is exactly opposite than when you would think is that and they're calling the Jets cocky and they're probably taking that from You know Rex and all that and maybe Dorell reeves calling And Bart Scott has been very, very quiet. He's a loud mouth. I wish he would just shut up. He's a loud. OK, fine. He's a loud mouth. But the one thing that I'm finding is that on that team, and especially the penalties, penalties make me think about it the most, the San Diego Chargers played desperate. They played like a team that hadn't won. They played like a team that, yeah, and the Jets played loose. That's the coach, though. So, That's the coach. That comes from the leadership if the leadership is tight. You know Rex isn't going to be tight. He's loose. He's loosey goosey. He's out there. He's saying he's got the fucking parade on the schedule. He's loosey goose out there. Norv is tight. He didn't go the way he thought he was going to go early on. You know? So he got tight. He started to run the ball a little bit. I don't know, these coaches, same with Wade Phillips, and we'll touch on the other games in a little bit, but losing 34-3, that's pretty embarrassing. I think I tweeted, I paused my television, and I took a picture of Jerry Jones standing behind Wade Phillips with just... the death stare on. Like, I'm going to fire you tomorrow stare. Which he didn't, by the way. Well, maybe tomorrow. No, he's not. He's gonna keep him. I don't get it, because he can only get you so far. I really don't understand it. I'll tell you why. There's a good theory came. I'm not gonna take, I wish I could take credit for it, but in my, you know, million and a half hours going back and forth to Cincy, one of the things that came up was... the uncapped year and the possibility of the not being football in 2011. So the theory was if next year is an uncapped year and the year after you're going to have no football, why would you go out and sign a brand new coach to a long term deal that You're going to have to pay to do nothing for a season. And. Well, that and that if you go out now and you get a play, there's no one in his back pocket. I think even Jerry Jones said this, I don't have a guy in my back pocket. So it's like if he goes 20, who's going to get Gruden? I mean, the coaches are gone. I mean, maybe Cowher, but Cowher wants to stay with me. There's Cowher, there's Gruden. There's a couple of guys out there. Gruden doesn't want to come out yet. Gruden doesn't want to come out. I would Gruden want to go play. Gruden played for one of the worst. first. owners like the craziest owners in the Tampa Bay box, I don't think he wants to go play for another crazy owner. You did win a national title and he's probably the kind of guy that Dallas is looking for. Obviously Dallas is looking for a big name. They're not looking to hire, you know, rookie head coach. Yeah, I mean, I would even just give Jason Garrett a shot if I was them. Instead of you know going out just give the give the offense just promote him
18:04 Jake: Cuz wait Phillips is just garbage. He never wins in the playoffs. He's completely garbage one for one in the playoffs It's huge. All right, so let's before we before we Wrap up this game, but I do want your your play the game and your night. Absolutely But just one it let's just first as a second. Let's just as deep breaths and let's collectively all remember that the New York Jets are heading to the AFC Championship game the first time in 11 years and let's just take that in like literally take a moment to feel that because that is Such a massive massive thing that it's like you just gotta love it. You gotta love it You gotta tell everyone remember back to 98 or 99 whenever that was the 41-2. And after Atlanta won early and the Jets had a real good shot, if they would have won, they would have won that Super Bowl. I know it. That was disappointing. But I must say I'm really happy to be where we're at. We're definitely a year or two ahead of schedule as far as that goes. And I'm just really just so impressed. the way that they've come out and won on the road twice now with the rookie quarterback, rookie head coach. Really, really impressive. And rookie running back. Yeah, and the running back. Sean Green is now the future back. You know when I love this? And again, I'm slowly changing my mind on the signed Thomas Jones or not signed Thomas Jones for next year. But... The double back, I mean, you could see how they do it. They'll do an entire series of one back, or maybe even a quarter. Then switch it back. So that they could beat you up in the second half. And Sean Green, when he gets his giddy up going, he hits hard, and then he runs fast. Well, I mean, that 53 yard touchdown was, he ran over a guy in the hole. He should have been tackled after a 10 yard gain. It was a great run. tackled after ten yards but he literally ran the guy over and then boom put on another gear and you look at the guy and you don't think he's a fast guy and there he goes yeah downfield oh he he's powerful and fast it's a great combination i don't know how how he made it to the third round who knows uh well that's what they were saying they were saying they were worried if they got him go one more second like that's why we jumped up to the top of the first the top of the third round of pickings because they were worried that if he dropped any more If there was any more picks, he would be gone. All right, so give me your play and night of the game. Brought to you by nobody. Sorry. If you want to be a sponsor of the play and night of the game, email us at advertising at jedkamem.com. All right, go ahead. Alright enough shameless plugs. My play of the game is going to be the the Jim Leonard interception in San Diego Territory because it was a huge kind of turnaround there. I think it was,
21:02 Jake: I think that was the second pick of the game. And it was the second straight pass attempt for Rivers that we intercepted and you could tell that we were starting to get to him Pressure was starting to surround him and that was just an awful throw I don't know even who he was it wasn't even clear who he was throwing it to whether he overthrew Jackson or whether he Under through Gates who didn't even turn around But Jimmy Leonard was right in the right spot and it was it was just perfect timing It was right what we it was exactly what we needed at that time to get ourselves to sort of boost us to the lead. We needed the ball there because it was clear to me that we weren't driving down the field at that point. Which we did do later on, but at that point in the game we needed the ball at the 15. You know, we needed the ball there to get a quick strike, go up 10-7. So to me that was the play of the game. And the player of the game, I'd love to pick Nate Kading, if that's possible. Can I pick Nate Kading? Yeah, pick Nate Kading. Nate Kading, player of the game. Without a doubt, without him, we lose. I don't know if we lose it. Now, here's the thing. I've been thinking about this because there's been a lot of if he gets... Let's say he doesn't get off. I mean, he missed three, right? Oh, the second one, 58 yarder at the end of the half. We can say, OK, fine. Everyone's missing. But I think, I don't know, because there's also a chance that if he kicks one of those, we get a good return and we score anyway. Like, you know, it's not. It's a momentum thing, though. It is a momentum thing. It's a head game mental thing where, I mean, if you saw after he missed the first. Did you see his eyes? They were just like glazed. He wasn't making another field goal. So like, even at the end of the game, like when the Chargers, even if they got the ball back, like and they were down three, would you have even tried a field goal? I mean, the guy killed the whole morale of the team. Right. That's true. And they're a fucking kicker when the kicker. blows it and the team like you could tell the team gets deflated from that and they gotta hate when like it's the kicker reminds me a lot of Mike Vanderjacked when he was with the Colts all those years. He was just a great regular season kicker one of the most accurate kickers all time but couldn't really kick it in the playoffs. I think when the Colts finally won the Super Bowl, was it Vinatieri who was actually their kicker? Yeah, I think it was Vinatieri. This guy just kept missing pressure kicks in the playoffs for them, and Kading does the same thing every year for San Diego. play the game, Nate Kading. Otherwise I'd pick Jim Leonard. He was all over the place and that fumble, that wasn't a fumble, was a fumble. And the fact that he caused it and then jumped on it without his helmet on, I freaking love that. There was a couple bad calls. I thought
24:00 Jake: the call that was that the guy, Jackson was in bounds was good. I thought the call that was a good call. The fact that got that right on the spot, I was very impressed. Right, the other one was not good. Yeah, that was a good call. Whatever, and I thought the other good call, the actual officiating was pretty good. The other good call was Lidl Shepherd, that actually was good interference, he was pulling on his jersey, but the other great call was the kick, the kick of the flag. I saw him do that. Oh, God. I saw Rex throw it. Out of my frustration. And I saw the guy kick, I saw Jackson kick it, and I thought, Bye! You can't do that. They're gonna call. I said they're gonna call it right now and all that guy picked up his thing and threw it out there I thought you damn right you call that that's It's the definition of unsports unlike conduct, right? All right childish that's that's from the head coach though again That's that's norv right there without discipline no discipline on that on the sideline that that was a big big Turn of events there took a lot of time off the clock for them That was huge. Do these kind of like throw his shoulder into somebody to try to knock them down as opposed to actually try to wrap them up and tackle them? It pisses me off. And there are times when he just doesn't, he doesn't, he's not a great tackler. He just doesn't tackle well. He, again, he doesn't throw his body at it. He throws like his shoulder and hopes the guy like falls down. So there's a couple times he did that and I was just mad. But there are two things he's very good at. And he, well, one of them, you don't get a lot of chance to do, but one of them he did, he's very good at the safety blitz. Coming off the blind side, coming around, getting that guy, knocking the ball down, unbelievable. And that was a game changer. That was huge. I mean, yes, we didn't get the ball, and yes, they got the ball. It was still third down and went to fourth down. They had to kick the ball. But talk about rattling rivers. I mean, to get hit from your backside. Yeah, he had a more great play. The hands play at the end. Like on the onside kick again, we both think they had more than a two time out. Well, one time out in the two minute warning. And they had been basically stopping us. It's not like we had had these shoes. It's not like we had the ball. We had the ball. We had the ball. We got the ball at the 20. We got the ball at the 20. Then we got the 20. that one big run play, but other than that, you know, pun pun pun pun pun pun. So you would think, God, give it to your defense. Put, you know, pin them deep. Let them have the chance. So kind of as quick as weird as when we did that. The kickoff. Did the kickoff was a bad kickoff. Well, but it was intentional. It was intentional.
27:00 Jake: They didn't want to give it to the girls. They didn't want to give the girls. But they gave it to our own 48 because the lineman picked up. It's like, yeah, you might. It's. It's weird. You all just let sproles return at 50 yards. Right. It's stupid. But so that's so play the game. And again, apology from me and from Justin. Say it. Justin. Sorry, Kerry. It's Kerry Rhodes. Really well. At Kerry Rhodes. Very sorry. At Kerry Rhodes. And the hands play at the end. I mean, it bobbled it. He almost cut. Thanks for watching! Caught it. That was, you know, very athletic life. Very athletic. And then my play of the game, so that was my night of the game. My play of the game is the last play of the game. It's not the Neil, so it's the second to last play. The TJ run? Yeah, because that was, that I think, and I've kind of read this, so I'm kind of taking from other people's sayings, but that summed up. the season so far, right? That showed that We think we are bigger stronger faster and better at doing this than you are and we know we can do it And we're not even gonna question it We're going to run it up your gut and if you can stop us then good for you But we don't think you can and so we're gonna give it to our guy. We're gonna give it to mr. Hands. Yeah, so glad that they brought in. I mean I was I was yelling for Thomas Jones on that whole series Why is Sean Green in the game? Why is he on first down? Why is he on second down? Why is he on third down? Where's Thomas Jones? But uh. I think they're waiting for a green to break one. Cause man, if we get a first down at that point. I mean at that point you saw Green carrying the ball. You had like both arms just hugging it. Because if he fumbles there, he's in trouble. He's in trouble. So yeah, and you gotta give it to the coach for calling that play. And just saying, we're going for it. And even if they hadn't got it. They were still gonna leave that gives the offensive line such juice Like that makes them feel so good about themselves going into the next game It keeps the momentum going it's great great. Good. Good play the game. Yeah, that is that's unbelievable play the Jets win Funny 14 are going to the AFC Championship against Indianapolis Colts before we move on I just want to say I had a couple friends over for the game and We were joking when they lined up for the onside kick that Usually you put your receivers out there for the hands team, but we were joking like please no Braylon Edwards Please please just keep him off the field. We don't want him. We don't want that ball going anywhere near him. I can't believe you're... I mean I literally... when I lost it a few times, screaming at the top of my lungs. Oh you can ask my neighbors, they were not happy. Yeah, I... It was... I broke the door to my terrace. I swung it open so so fast. Wow. I like... I put a little dent in the wall. Nice. I was telling my roommate, my friends who were here, I was like...
30:00 Jake: I don't think I can even handle a Super Bowl. I'm like, I'm a wreck right now. And now having done it both ways, like two playoff games in a row and one going to the game and one not going to the game, going to the game is so much easier. It's so much easier being at the game, and I will tell you this, and this is what I was telling to people, I was at a birthday party for my kid, it wasn't my kid's birthday party, but... Mm. as a kid's birthday party when i was sitting there before so i like one o'clock and i had permission to leave it like. Two to go back and i was tebowing it so i can go back and watch the you know the other first game i was literally sitting there people like how you doing i'm like. To be honest. I'm not even listening to you. I'm sitting in my head thinking about this game. And I can't say I'm more nervous than players going on the field, because I'm not an NFL player and I haven't played in the playoffs. But my god, why would you want to become a fan of a team? Because it hurts so badly to sit there and just be like, you can't think about anything else. And I'm not playing. This is a freaking sport that I don't even play. I just watch. And I'm literally sitting. We'll see you next week. thinking about this while the magician is doing his bad, you know, bad, like, disappearing act or whatever. I swear to you, I'm sitting there going, and then I'm looking at my daughter who's, you know, I'm trying to raise jet. And I think, God, what am I doing to you? Because this is, it is the best and it does have the most... She doesn't really have very good choices, though. Well, it's either that of the Dolls fans or nothing. Yeah, either one is very good. She could be nothing. But anyway. She could be nothing, but that's not going to happen. Yeah, probably not going to happen. All right, so that is the game. I cannot believe it. I am stunned. I know all you Jet fans out there are stunned. So let's talk a little bit about the other games. And then we'll. The other games kind of sucked. We'll be right back. Yeah, I mean, I think that's the general thing. And as I looked at those other because every other game ended obviously, we were the last game and every other game ended before. And so you're kind of thinking, geez, all the home teams kind of took it to the visiting team and all the number one out and the higher seeds won. So the Saints, the higher seed over the Cardinals won 4514. Got any comments about that game? I watched the whole thing. I actually got a chance to watch that when I. So I did not have the only one game that I did not get to see was the Colts Ravens game and that was the only one I really actually wanted to see other than the Jet Game, but I was not able to see it. The one thing I'll say about the Arizona Saints game, which really was just befuddling to me, was that Arizona came out, they got the ball first, and like on the first play, 70 yard run touchdown. Boom, Tim Hightower. Finally, New Orleans comes back with their high flying offense, 7-7. You're like, okay, here we go, get ready, shoot out time. Tim Hightower doesn't touch the ball again until the second quarter. I know that the next play Arizona goes down the field 25 yards and the guy fumbled.
33:03 Jake: But then one and then they're down 14 7 but then they got the wall back again and they didn't go back to Tim Hightower and this is a guy who just ran for 70 yards on one play You would think you would try to maybe Exploit that and when you look at the stats like the guy only ended up with like four attempts It's just very odd like if the Jets did that I'd be very upset with them like for not for not like just Sort of like seeing that and and you know making a change on the fly because it just wasn't happening through the air for them. Well remember then then the linered coast I mean uh that was later on though I mean they could have kept the game closer like they went down 20 21 7 and at that point it just was like all right this game looks like it might be over. Right I think I think it well it was 21 7 in in the half, I mean, in the first quarter. Saints, I think, basically are saying, listen, you want to play our defense is better than what you saw last week in the Packers, which is true. You want to play high flying ball. I throw the ball 40 times. Let's do it. Yeah, let's do it. We're going to take you to the house. And they did. I think the Saints are the team to beat. I think they're the better team. And I think that they're, you know, I. You know all hail the Saints. I mean whatever I think the Saints are gonna go to We'll go for picks, but if right now I'm picking I think Saints are going to that Super Bowl No, we the Ravens which we were all hoping that the Ravens would win selfishly And I think the thing with the Ravens the Colts played. Okay, I mean 20 points You know But I think the thing with the Ravens they had exactly what happened to them sort of all season long And it didn't happen them against the they used they used up all their luck in that Patriot game. Because during the season, there was such horrendous time in that game after game. Remember the Steelers game? And I don't know why I watched a lot of Ravens games or just remember watching a lot of whatever, replays or whatever. But man, they just couldn't catch a break in this game. Same thing right an interception Ed Reed picks it twice once gets called back for a frickin block Block in the back and the second time gets called he It was a pass interference on another player passing for us So it didn't even count the second time the guy comes up from behind him and pops it loose like Those two should have been kept it. Let's say those two plays alone that games you know 1720 Right there right that's those are two those are two game changers. They just they couldn't catch a very rice fumbled as well, right? Yep, so I mean that's that's yeah, they they can't get to break That's not the way to beat the Colts you cannot turn the ball over I I would say if I'm gonna take anything against that game or anything that I like out of that game They only scored 20. Yeah, is that it's Colts 20 Ravens 3 I'm not, you know, the game's coming up and we got a lot of things to worry about. But the Colts against a good defense, not as good as the Jets defense, could only score 20 points.
36:04 Jake: Hey, and Ed Reed talked about, you know, retirement afterwards. I think, you know, he probably overreacted a little bit, but... Maybe he wants to leave the Ravens. I'd take him. Oh really? I think Ed Reed with all his injuries and stuff is towards the end of his little career. I'd still take him for two more years. I think we should go pick up a hard hit and safety in the draft. The Cowboys, I mean the sad thing is those two games, you know, Ravens, Colts, and Cowboys, Vikings. Yeah, they weren't very good games. Cowboys, I mean... Tony Romo and Wade Phillips are who we think they are. And once Flozell Adams got hurt as the left tackle, I mean even before he got hurt, he just started to like, yeah, once he got hurt, they had no chance. Like there was no stopping that defensive front. Dallas had no... chance. But they also don't have a quick release. Like, they don't have a... You know what I didn't see is like the screen. Like screen till you're running back. If they're pressuring you hard, screen till you're running back. They've got good running backs. Let one of them run the ball. They just got creamed. Yeah, they got creamed. They got creamed. I also took exception with the way that Keith Brooking took exception with... Minnesota at the end of the game really yeah, I took exception with Keith Brookings I say If you take if if you're that pissed off fucking stop them. Yeah, that's something that's always that's always a sub argument I'm sorry, but the better the I want them to do kick a field goal on fourth down and put points on the board Just run it. What do you want them to do? They're not gonna kick a field goal up that amount of points. They're just gonna go for it. So fucking stop them if you're that pissed off about it. Don't cry like a little bitch. I agree. I agree that don't cry, but it's tasteless. It's tasteless when you're up that high to go for more points big. Go for more big. It's tasteless to kick the field goal. I mean, I guess. No, it's not. Because you have to do something. I guess you could just run the ball. You have to do something. So they did something. That was stop him. Well, you also could just take a knee, but it's too early to take a knee. Yeah, so you could run the ball. You could run the ball. Whoa, it's fourth and two? Hey, if you're gonna... Hey, I say don't cry. Stop him. I agree. I agree, don't cry, but I also agree like tasteless. And you know what? Here's the thing. I'm calling it now. We'll see you next time on Vikings will pay for that. They will pay for that football karma bites you in the ass and they will pay for that for that One touchdown come next week Farves do for a clunker. Oh far as far is very good I don't think I I'm not I'm not impressed with the corners the corners or the you know the secondary of the frickin of the Colts, I mean sorry the Cowboys at all they were not impressive and and that one guy with the touchdown pass didn't even know the guy No, he's staring at the guy and the guy puts his hands up if he puts yours hands up again I'm not a corner. I don't know what I'm talking about But I see the guy in front of me put my hands up to catch a ball I'm putting my hand up to block seriously. All you do is see that he caught the ball just
39:03 Jake: They were on the sideline, just no dramatic bounds. Yeah, push them out of bounds. Whatever. Game over, week over. Game over. Yeah, and just really put up the best game, and maybe not in sort of big plays, but in terms of a back and forth battle, that was actually a battle. So how did you do last week? I think you did as well as I did, yes? How did I do? You went three for three. I think we both. or three uh three out of four one we both missed the baltimore game yes i'm thinking that was because we were picking with our hearts i think pretty much well let's change that by picking with our hearts right now so let's talk two games so we can talk as much about them as we want but let's start with the the second game and then go to the first game um you know we got the saints at home by the way i kind of wish we were the second game I do too because well, I want I don't want to be I Don't care. I don't really care. It's only two games. I wish we were the second game. It's only two games I don't care. We played better at 1 o'clock. It's 3 o'clock. We played better at 3 o'clock Don't do it 4 o'clock. So I rather whatever doesn't matter. Let's just play Alright, so second game is Saints at home against the top two seeds of the NFC. This is a battle I think football fans want. Two high powered offenses, it's two good defenses. You got Breeze against Favre. You've got two dome teams. I think probably the NFL is probably pulling for Favre because him going back to the Super I felt pretty happy with the final four regardless. whatever happens I think the NFL is happy with what has transpired here with these four teams. You have Favre, you have the Saints, who's like, you know, since Katrina has been sort of this darling Erica's team, you know, you have Colts with Peyton Manning. and you have the Jets in the New York market. I think the NFL is probably pretty happy with the Final Four and no matter what the Super Bowl happens to be, there's going to be a good match up and good storylines. Yeah, there's definitely going to be storylines because you've got the Saints there, you talk about the Saints and Drew Brees and and all their troubles and them coming back. If it's the if it's far, you got 500,000 storylines. Just be miserable. I have to deal with far for two weeks. If it's cold, you got Peyton in the perfect season and you got the you know whatever. And it's the Jets. Yeah, you got the working this you get in New York. You got a couple good storylines. So so tell me what do you think happened to this game? All right. So. uh... it was a nice i'll give you my score uh... why did you know now says that i have a little analysis first i watched like i said both of these games or both of these teams play this past week and they both look phenomenal uh... the one thing i'll say though is that i think minnesota
42:00 Jake: the a better team in Dallas than New Orleans did. in Arizona, I think Arizona was just gassed from playing a crazy game the week before and And and having the short shorter, you know shorter rest of Minnesota had the rest and and was able to play there With that said I think Minnesota's defense is better than New Orleans defense. I think that's just my opinion. I don't think they'll be giving up as much rushing yards as Arizona did and I don't think they'll, I think their secondary is better than Arizona. And I don't know, for some reason I just feel like Minnesota is going to win this game. And it was like, you know, Farve was destined to sort of make this Super Bowl. Which really bothers me more than anything. But I think Minnesota wins the game in a close one. 27-21. Not as high scoring as people might think this game is going to be. because I think both of these defenses are better than any defense that they've played recently. Wow, it's interesting because not only do we disagree probably as we disagree as much on this game as probably agree about the next game, but I don't see it. I don't see it. I think the Cowboys is that good. I think if you look at the... The three teams that they played, they talked about their big streak getting in. They played the Redskins who just shut down. And they played basically the Eagles twice. They matched up great against them. They matched up great against them and they played them at home twice and they beat them twice and the Eagles looked like crap. Then they go and play a good team on the road. The Vikings are very good at home. Because of the dome, because of the loudness, and that makes things better for them. They're not so good on the road. The other dome's going to be shaken, but it's not going to be shaken for them. It's going to be very effing loud for them. It's going to be really loud at 6.37. And Adrian Peterson. They're going to be wasted. Adrian Peterson, at this point, you have to almost, you can't say he's a non-factor. But you got to say he's not a huge factor. He's not. I think team's game plan for him so much to the point where Favre throws four touchdowns. Yeah, but they threw four touchdowns on, again, bad tackles, right? I mean, if you can see with Favre, it's always like they don't get his hand around him or something, and then just bad D. I mean, that one should never have been caught. That was a lucky catch. Again, I think that the Vikings are a very good team. That's all I have for you for today. coordinator is Greg Williams much Bill's head coach I think he'll be able to put
45:00 Jake: up a game plan that's really gonna put far of in a little bit of you know I'm again I don't think it's gonna be a destruction but I will say I think Saints are gonna win 34 27 you're gonna see you're gonna see the random I don't think far will throw is through the pick the end the game like you did three years ago. It's going to have one of those playoff clunkers that he's had. Yeah, I don't think that's the past. I think... You know what's interesting about the previous game that New Orleans played is that we actually finally saw Reggie Bush. Yeah. The real Reggie Bush. The Reggie Bush that we saw play at USC. The one that was like untacklable. And the guy who you didn't want to even let him touch the ball, because you knew he could at any point go for an 80 yard run or something. He actually played really, really well. And of course we got to see Kim Kardashian because of it, which was nice, but... Oh, Jesus. You know, a little sidebar, a little... Little Rat Hole, play Rat Hole music now. Justin: Rat Hole. Jake: For all those twit fans. It was very interesting, I read this article as we talk about shots of Kim Kardashian. I read this article and I retweeted it that... in the Wall Street Journal, they sort of did an overarching study of football telecasts and how much football is actually shown during a football game. It's on the air for about three hours and there's on average about 11 minutes of... actual football live action live action right not not replays deep I put in re-made a they were not counting replays they were not counting like the 42nd clock while the players are standing around her right huddle right and then they were saying like the as as the game goes on if it's a close game you'll have more shots of live action as opposed to replays, but if it's a Blowout and we got to see a bunch of blowouts this weekend. You'll see more shots of Jerry Jones on the sidelines You'll see more shots of Kim Kardashian celebrating with her family in the booth You'll see more shots of the owner or what have you and I thought it was just very interesting because there were three blowouts and after reading the article earlier in the week or right before the game started I actually noticed in these blowouts that they do sort of look for other things to talk about or cover as opposed to sort of the jet game where it was all just you know intense football action. Interesting point. But let's get to the game. So we have the matchup. Match up for the century. This would be the, probably not the match of century. This is, as Rex put it, this is not the team. This is not the game that the NFL wanted, but basically a half a rematch because the Peyton Manning will actually play the full game unless they don't want to, which is fine. If they want to put Painter in there, hey, if they think. Painter looked good last time. If they think they have a better shot with Painter.
48:00 Jake: here. You know, this is a game that I think, in some ways, the Chargers are a better team. The Chargers, and I know this is crazy talk, but the Chargers are a better team than the Colts. And I think if the Chargers had won, I think the Chargers would have gone and beat the Colts. You really think that? Yes, I do. You know what's hard about making that statement is that Every time the Colts this year have tried to win the game, they've won. They've won the game. They haven't lost a game that they've tried to win. But they've also had a lot of games that came down to small, small, wins error. They beat the Ravens on a Miss Field goal, basically. They beat New England on a stupid fourth and two. They got some lucky breaks here and there. That's what I'm saying. So it's not all of, again, it's not all about, they do dominate. But the Ravens, the Chargers were dominating in more of a, we're going out and we're putting up the points where, I think that, here's my feeling. Peyton Manning is a better quarterback than Philip Rivers. No doubt. Justin: No doubt. out. Jake: I think that they've got better position players. Their pass rush is probably better than what you saw in Merriman and all that, not playing as great. But overall, the two teams, if you added all things together, special teams, full weapons, they actually, the Chargers have more, they have a sprulls. They have someone they could, there's no sprulls on the Colts. It's a good result. The Colts are going to do, they're kind of like the opposing Jets. Like they're going to do exactly what we think they're going to do. You know, Peyton Manning is going to come out there and they have a couple wild cards, they have a couple wild cards. You know exactly who they are and what they're going to do. They have the Austin Collies and the Pierre Garcones that might make a nice. But everybody knows they're really good. They're really good at passing the ball. They're not going to not going to be able to run the ball very well. They're not. You're right. They're like a. ball control throwing team which is weird to even say. Like they'll throw the ball for four yards. And if you give K-Manning enough time and you don't pressure him, he will eat you up. But just like the Chargers, we have this sort of best against best. We're very good at defending the pass. They're very good at passing. Do those two things cancel each other out? I don't know. Tell me what you think. Give me some thoughts and give me a prediction for the game. Well, here's the thing. This is great that we get to play them again for a couple reasons. You know, it's great because if we win, we get to finally shut everyone up. Hey, we beat them. We beat them twice now. We beat them for real. So it is cool that we get to replay them. it's actually kind of a good thing I think for everyone for the Jets for for the NFL for for everyone like Rex said we're not going to apologize we're here we're not we're not apologizing for it and and I think that what you'll see is that that the Jets are going to
51:00 Jake: come out with with some different wrinkles I hope than what they did the last time against the Colts and obviously the Colts are going to come out with a few different wrinkles then than they played with the last time. And what we have to hope for is that Rex is smarter than Peyton. Because Peyton's damn smart. I think if you were to sort of think about the quarterback position as like, who's the smartest? I mean... Peyton's probably just the most talented and the smartest, right? He's like he's like the guy who watches all the film and studies everything and knows all the tendencies and the this and the that but You know Rex has proven now that he can match wits with the best of them on that side of the ball So I'm looking for a low scoring game if you remember back we we had the cold set i think he was fifteen ten ten and it was like midway midway through the third quarter so that that's a decent score to to just sort of uh you know hang our hats on that that's not bad um and and i'm looking for a similar type game in the past Nanning has struggled against Rex Ryan defenses Hasn't put up a whole lot of points his one games, you know 18 15 or 15 12 or whatever and in the end I Want to feel like this Jets team is one of those teams with some divine Ha stuff going on you're gonna be if you really think it's some sort of religious thing I take over it's not religious, but just this I don't know it's like Certain things like like like like Stupid block in the back penalties and and and kicking a red flag like like these things Yeah, they feel good to you when you win. Yeah, but what I'm saying is those are things that we usually do. We usually kick ourselves in the air. Justin: Every fan thinks that they're the one who is crapped on. Jake: Jets fans have been getting crapped on forever. Bengals fans? Come on, go talk to a Bengals fan or talk to a Browns fan. I've watched the Bengals play in the Super Bowl. I've never watched the Jets play in the Super Bowl. Okay, how many times you've seen the Browns play in the Super Bowl? I've never seen the Browns play in the Super Bowl. Okay, okay. But I don't care. I'm not a Browns fan. How about the Bills? You've seen them play in the Super Bowl. They played in four straight Super Bowls. Do you think they feel good about that? Do you think they love it? I went to school up there. They love it. That's because they do what they make and say. They can say that. It was hilarious. I used to laugh at them. I'm like, yeah, you lost four straight. Good for you. That's what I'm saying. Every fan of a team... thinks that they're snake bitten and that they're the same. But the Jets are. It's always, every fan thinks that. Again, I've come to realize that I've been around and gone to enough games of opposing teams. Every team thinks that they're the snake bitten team. You know why? Because everybody likes to be the underdog.
54:02 Jake: Well, we are the underdog. And I love that. We are the underdog. So we've talked about this where the NFL is one of those leagues where it's us against them. and if you're If you're the underdog if you're the one that no one believes in you actually are in good shape That's that's the attitude that you want to take so I'm gonna go ahead and pick this as a Jets win go figure 1613 If you can let them have they're gonna score one touchdown one touchdown two field goals And they're not gonna miss any field goals either. Matt Stover's not missing. That's why I think the points will be a little bit higher because I don't think they're gonna miss that. I don't think they're gonna miss in their own house, in the dome. They're not missing any field goals. I think that's why I feel really good about our kicker too, Jay Feely. It's very odd, you know, in the playoffs this year, this is a whole stat out of my ass. There's been one... missed field goal of under 40 yards other than the two jet games where there have been four. Shane Graham missed two, Nate Kading missed two. Every other game combined there's been one. So there's a little divine stuff going on there where someone's looking out for the jets a little bit, whether it be woodies... daughter thing happening or the you know the old someone's looking out for us uh... i'd walk maybe the so the game i will say that they want so couple things one is i think i made two predictions last week of what would happen i think i said they don't make anything up now no i think that that that that that that that will throw the ball He didn't. Yeah, and again, I think that's a big mistake if you look at the way that that teams are now stacking the line against Brandy Smith, right because they know what's gonna happen It's me double the double reverse reverse not gonna run or a wildcat I threw for I think over 8,000 yards in college. I'm sure he could throw a ball Wait, are you sure he threw for 8,000 yards? Yes, I think he was 12 12,000 total Brad Smith I think at 12,000 yards in in college and I'll look it up. You keep talking throwing in 12 and for running over his career. Brad Smith. You keep talking. I'll get it. You keep talking. I'm gonna pull it up in two seconds. And now we're not talking. Oh, sorry. That was over 4,000 yards passing. Sorry, maybe he had something. Okay, so back to the indie colts. I think the score is going to be higher. I do think the Jets are going to win. I think it's going to be a tough battle. But here's the one thing I think we have a chance of. They said that Rivers doesn't do, which I think he actually did do in this game, which is that if you get around his feet and you get into his face, he doesn't get any worse. Like he's still just as good. It doesn't matter how many times he gets hit or if there's people rushing him. He's still just as accurate. Bullshit. No one's accurate or as accurate when people are in their face, hitting them. And here's the thing about Peyton. Peyton is great.
57:00 Jake: But if he starts to lose his confidence in the game, I've seen a few games where if he loses his confidence, he goes downhill fast. I'm not saying one pick because he is a guy who can come on the side and go one pick. I'm saying a pick, missed pass, a blocked pass. You can see in this face where he puts his head down and he starts going, damn it, damn it. And that gets to you. And he's that player, he's a great player, probably one of the greatest quarterbacks, will witness. But he's that kind of player that really gets down on himself. So I think if we can start to have those turnovers and we can get him to throw a couple bad passes now and again and sort of make him frustrate him both by hitting him and by making him incomplete and sort of getting them worried. You know, that's a defense that likes to play from a head. Most humans like to play from head, but they really do. Yeah, because they start rushing up like down. They start just bullying straight ahead and not even starting. They're great at rushing the passer when they don't have to worry about the run. But I do. I trust. I trust in Rex to come up with a defensive plan that will keep. I trust in Schottenheimer to do enough to keep them guessing. Which is crazy because eight, nine weeks ago we're all calling for his head and all of a sudden it's like, oh thank God Schottenheimer's not interviewing for the Bill's job. I think he hit a point. I think there was a, you know what it might be? Like a come to Jesus moment kind of thing? Yeah, and you know what it might be? It actually might not be Sean Iver it might be Well, I think it was. It's just that your quarterback is not going to do it. You've got to take it away from him. And I think Schottenheimer, as we all said before, he's a quarterback offensive coach. He likes to throw the ball. He likes formations and likes to complex. He likes to complex. He comes from that San Diego system that we sort of saw yesterday. It's a similar system. system. Lots of movement, lots of change. That's really good for a veteran. And even like Chad. For Chad to run. Yeah, with confusion and deception and stuff. Really crappy for a quarterback who's shitting himself because this is his like 16th start in the NFL. Not good for him. So once they kind of pulled it back. I think also at that time where Rex came in and took over, I'm air quoting for all you at home who can't see me, which is everybody. Anybody? Um... I think what they did is they had to come to Jesus and they said, listen, you're very smart. Don't overthink this. Play to our strengths. I will run this defense to get you what you need. You need to run the offense and make it happen. And since then, I think those two people, they've become kind of locked in. And once they locked in and one shot he gave up, I'm not the head coach. but But this is my offense, and I got a rookie, and so let's nourish him. I think the whole thing kind of went better. So I think Schottenheimer has changed his philosophy. And also, I think Sanchez has sort of learned too, it's better to throw it away. I mean, it's hard to tell. Don't be the star.
1:00:00 Jake: You can only be the goat. You can never be the star. Thanks for watching! If we win and you throw 15 completed passes and don't miss one, you're not the star. Yeah, I mean just go back to that 2001 or 2002 Patriots team, whatever, whatever, their first their first Super Bowl team, I think it was 01. Tom Brady was not the star of that team, if you remember back. He was doing what Sanchez is doing. He was throwing for 100 yards, 120, 140 yards. They didn't have receivers. It was Troy Brown. They were running the ball, field position, and they were defense. And that's how they won the Super Bowl with a defensive genius in Bill Belichick and a young quarterback that was just, I hate to say, managing the game. I know Sanchez had the one pick, which was a rush. He got hurried and sort of just got rid of the ball, which was a little bit of a mistake. But he came back from that and made a couple of... big plays. There was a third down completion to Cottree. That was a big play. The touchdown pass was huge. Unbelievable. A great play that was made by Sanchez getting out there and being athletic and Keller getting open in the back of the end zone. So he's starting to sort of, you know, come into his own and like Rex said, he's not a rookie anymore. His rookie season's over. He's this next season. He's in the playoffs and this is only going to help down the road in the long term. I mean, the I'd hate to look at like Dan Marino, who made the you know, didn't he make the Super Bowl like his rookie year or something like that? I think it's for a starting year. For a starting year, something like that. He never made it back. I hate for that to happen. But such a great learning experience. Like if you look at like Ben Roethlisberger who got to learn sort of on the fly as a rookie in the playoffs and lost, you know, beat the Jets actually as a rookie and then lost in the championship game that year as a rookie but then came back the next year and I think they won the Super Bowl like the next season. It's such a great learning experience for him to have played these two playoff games on the road which usually a rookie doesn't get to experience. You have to wait a couple years to experience that. He now has that in his back pocket. He's done that. He knows he can do it. He's done it. He's won these road playoff games. I mean, that's phenomenal for a rookie head coach, rookie quarterback, rookie running back, young team. I mean, we have a couple veterans, obviously. We have a couple really old guys, too. Tony Richardson, who was our leading receiver in the first quarter, which was wonderful. You know, most of our guys are... pretty young you know it's a nice core nice team and I think they're a year or two ahead of schedule at this point no one expected us to be here and at this point we are the hottest team left we're the Arizona from last year we're the hottest team left I don't want to be the Arizona from last year I want to be the giant from two years two years ago I want to be the ravens from three years that team we're the team that is the hot team we won seven of eight or whatever it is
1:03:02 Jake: All these other teams sort of, you know, the Colts sort of took the last two games off, right? I mean, San Diego was clearly the hottest team. They won 11 in a row. But we were pretty hot too. You know, New Orleans limped into the playoffs. Minnesota limped into the playoffs. I mean, they beat up on the Giants who weren't even trying in that last game. But We are the hot team and I'm really excited for this weekend. I'm looking forward to a Jets victory. I am looking forward to a Jets victory as well. I will probably have 16 heart attacks during the game. But I'm going to call it right now. So I think here's the game plan. Game plan is, you said it, everybody said it, it's Edgerton Stone. We could write it up, put it in the New York Times tomorrow. We're going to just mail them our game plan. Pretty much. Everyone knows it. Pretty much. Although I think, again, it's up to Schottenheimer to put in enough of the bradsmiths, enough of the stuff, enough deep threat bombs that you keep the meat, you keep them guessing. I don't know. I think, I don't know if the bradsmith stuff's going to work. When it works, it works. Yeah, but I don't know. at this point when he's in the game i think people know enough what to expect right so make him feel needs to be yeah i was and i i thought there would be a fake punt yesterday but san diego thought that too so they were just standing there waiting for a yesterday everything everything except i said more acid more bread smith as it has been a pro and a fake but i mean that's sort of i thought we were gonna get one of those to sort of a trick play or a fake punter a something but San Diego clearly was actually ready for that. They were standing there not the only time they tried to block the punt they actually did. Yeah. I want J. Feely punting back because this guy Weatherford. The other thing that I'm really liking about these wins, and I think the Jets are going to win 24-20. I'm just saying it right now. But the other thing I like about these wins and the way that the Jets are winning is if you notice, both games on the road in the playoffs, they go down by seven points. Both games were down. I mean, that is, it's not insurmountable. But to go down in any game is very dumb. Two scores would be bad. that. Two stores of media and we've walked out with a miss field goal here and a miss field goal there and a Pass interference here or whatever it is to keep us from getting those two scores. I Don't know what's gonna happen in this game. You know, I'd love to like run it through my head and say hey listen It's gonna be you know, Peyton's gonna throw the first play of the game is gonna throw a touchdown But then we're gonna run it back or but I do think the Jets have a shot. I do think they I do think in some ways we saw a better team last week and we saw an opponent that's tougher. We saw a hotter team. Less known to us. Less known to us. And I think they had a better chance of making a running attack. I don't think a die is going to do it, although he did better against us in that other game.
1:06:04 Jake: And Donald Brown as well, the rookie. Oh, yeah, but then to recognize that that happened I mean who would even think that that's what happened, but he clearly Stole what's in his at the HT right now playing playing some golf So yeah, Jet twin 24 20 and now let's take a tweet. Let's do it. Let's do it Be I actually had a tweet as well this week at me. So I'm gonna We'll pull it up. Before that, of course we are starting in this year, but basically starting from the next season, which we consider after the Super Bowl and going from basically before the draft through the Super Bowl. For the next season, we're going to be doing some advertising. We have a couple inquiries. So if you want to be a part of the Jet Kingdom podcast and have your company mentioned and or talked about or loved and and this explicit podcast send an email to advertising at JetKingdom.com. That's advertising at JetKingdom.com. We will probably put you in different spots around the podcast like you have heard another podcast. Great way to hit the niche of market of all these of all these Jet fans and NFL fans who just like to listen to us talk. Alright, so let's take a tweet. I have one from our, almost a weekly tweeter from Omri Petaru who said to me, he said the other week, he's like you can't, you're not gonna have, you're not gonna be able to pronounce my name until you hear it, so we'll have to make that happen. He says hi again. What would take for us to be considered an elite team? My honest opinion, even a super- ...year will be considered a fluke. Hm, take a shot at that. I'll take a stab at that. And he's right. I hope that Omri, you're he. I... We were not even... I'm just assuming. You're right. This isn't an elite team, even if they do Super Bowl. It's not an elite team. What I would consider an elite team is a fully balanced team. meaning a team that could beat you with the defense and a full gamut of offense, not just of we kind of are a one-dimensional offense if we run the ball and that's it. So I think to be considered an elite team you have to have the whole package and right now the offense is a bit one-dimensional. But I think they have the pieces. I think they have the pieces of the puzzle to get there. They're young enough,
1:09:02 Jake: they have a young head coach who seems to have a good head on his shoulders, and they have a rookie quarterback who's... You know, on his way to the AFC Championship game. So and they have the three pro bowlers on the offensive line, which I think is basically the key. So you're right there. You know, most elite teams in the history of football have that that huge offensive line. When you look at like. They had a great offensive line the Cowboys in the in the early mid 90s. They had a great offensive line These are you know, that's what makes teams elite. I think the full gamut so you're right They're not there yet, but I think they have the pieces Yeah, I think we're showing a lot of Here's the thing about being a lead. If you want to be an elite team, you have to beat the teams that you're supposed to beat. And you have to beat the teams that you're not supposed to beat. The Jets have done both. Well, they're done neither really this year, right? 9 and 7 isn't an elite team. No, not at all. Sorry, it's not. Winning your division is a elite team. And in fact, you know who's the lead team? Thank you. Cults, cult or an elite team. And even by beating an elite team, that doesn't mean you're an elite team. The Chargers could have been a better team. We beat them, doesn't make us better than the Chargers. It means that we beat them on that day. They also won 11 games in a row. We lost, you know, games that we, there's no way we should have lost. You know, fourth quarter crap teams. But that's because they pass, right? Well, they're now. But their offense does gain like 400 yards a game. Right. And he'll throw a deal of six. That's different than being one dimensional and running the ball and gaining 200 yards a game. And I think more important than elite teams, you have to have elite players. Because I think a team full of nobodies who go win and do it well still aren't called elite teams. Thank you so much for watching. I hope you enjoyed this video and I'll see you next time. only when there's a couple of elite players that people literally have to change the way they play football right because of these players right those those teams become elite and i don't know if it's fair or not but like that's what the patriots are a great example of that the 2001 patriots were not elite right they want to see when Brady wasn't tom brady yet right when tom brady became tom brady then they were then they were elite Right. When they went 16-0, they were elite. So now here's the good news. The good news is I think we have the making of a couple of elite players. Is it too early to say that some of these people are elite? No, it's not too early to say Dorell-Rivas is an elite. No, Dorell-Rivas is an elite player. So how many others do you need to make?
1:12:01 Jake: I think here's what I'd like to see we get to, and then I'll call this a little. First of all, we have to win our division. We have to win 12 games a year, which I don't think we've done in a long time. Um. And I think here's the players I'd like to see be elite or be on there to be elite then we can call it and we say this word one more time. You need an elite running back. You need an elite pass rusher. You need an elite quarterback. And you know if you threw him Darrell Rebus as an elite corner or something you get that kind of diversity so you have enough and maybe an elite wide receiver. You get that type of team, you start dominating, so they can't take away one part of you, you know? Then you really are. So I think we're a ways away, and we might never be there. But if we win a Super Bowl and they don't call us elite, I will be perfectly happy. You know, were the Giants elite winning two years ago? No, they weren't. They won some good games. They struggled hard. They played well. They were actually a better team last season until Plax go shot himself. self. So, it's clear that you don't have to be an elite team to win the Super Bowl. I'd rather win the Super Bowl than be given the Elite Team. If the Colts get beat by us this week, and we all say, oh, they were a great Elite Team in the pre-season or the regular season, but then got beat by an upstart wild card team, I'd rather take that. So, that's my answer. Do you have your tweet or? I have my tweet. Not really all that relevant. Although, it was a question from YankeesGalaxy. Is there a way to convince Ed Reed to join the Jets? I think that was because after Ed Reed, after they lost, he sort of mulled over retirement 50-50, I'm coming back. And then I threw a tweet out there about not really being too pleased with Kerry Rhodes. After a couple of plays during the first half. So I think the question was posed, is there a way to convince Ed Reed to come to the Jets? I think there is. You know, there's no reason why you couldn't convince the guy unless he's sort of contractually obligated to not, you know, to have to come back to Baltimore. I don't think there's a reason why we couldn't convince Ed Reed to come play for Rex Ryan. Seeing Rex Ryan coach, I can't imagine any guy who's played for him in the past not wanting to play for him again. I totally agree. I'm not. I know. I'm not necessarily sold that and read is the Ed Reed of two years ago. He's had a lot of injuries this year. He's not played up to his thing. They've lost some games because he's just he doesn't show up. Not because he's not playing because he's just not showing up. And when he's not on that team, the team takes a definite downer. Clearly a safety is a I'd like to see us pull a really good rookie safety and put him out there and you know, build them up but uh... But we'll see I I doubt he would come to our team, but maybe again, do you think that that's the thing that's keeping us from winning games? No, no, it's not. I think pass rush is actually something that we are where we could use we could use a A dominating pass rush. You know if Vernon Gholston number six overall was actually a number six overall worthy pick then yeah, that'd be better
1:15:03 Jake: Well, that's a marathon. This is going to wrap up, this might be the longest show ever, but that's okay, we had a lot to talk about. I think people will enjoy it. So then I just said, well I'm leaving it in the other room because if I start tweeting again, I'm not, I try to be super. funny that you said that because I was sitting on the couch. and they were losing 7-0 and then at half time I switched and I went and sat on the chair and they played better in the second half and I just stayed there and that didn't move. I didn't get up from the chair so it's funny that you said that about them. Oh yeah it's such crap and I try not to do whatever. I know it's such garbage. So it makes you I've turned my hat around I've changed hat. No I gotta take off the Sanchez jersey and put on the Curtis Martin. I know I know.
