03 Jake: This is episode 64 of the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Tuesday, January 12th, 2010. House Money! Justin: of the women. Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom Podcast. As always, back from the Ohio Digital Isle Wait, that almost rhymes. It's Jake co-host of the JK&A podcast and joining me, my other co-host, who didn't go to Ohio at all, but made some sort of a light reference to trying to go to San Diego, but then bailed immediately when he found out. It's my good buddy Justin. Justin, how are you doing? Justin: I was talking about going for the weather. But then I saw what happened to the ticket the plane prices when when the Jets won and that that wasn't any fun So I'm doing great. I'm doing just wonderful. You know why cuz the Jets are still alive and All those it has to said that they backed in and beat teams that didn't try Well, they beat the same team and I'm sure they tried this time So FU. Jake: All right, well, let's talk a little bit about the agenda. All right, talk a little bit about the agenda. And we'll get that out there for people who are listening, what they know is going to come or not going to come up. All right, so we'll talk about the Jets versus Cindy round two wild card playoff game. We'll pick our night and full of the game, or night of the game and our play of the game, of course. We'll talk about some playoffs, right? And see what you had some other thoughts. I'm sure you watched them all. There's some other big news in the playoffs. We'll talk a little bit about our buddy. We'll talk about the defensive player of the year and what that meant. And we'll go over our thrown picks, both what happened last week, how we did, and we'll talk a little bit about what's coming up. Thanks for watching! We'll make our picks for this, including scores. And then we have a couple new things that are coming up. We'll talk about that in the podcast. We'll go over some tweets and questions posted to the forums. Great. And then we'll wrap it up. So let's get to it. Let's get to the game. So first of all, I am the last podcast. I mentioned that I was going to drive to the... drive down to the game. I did end up going and let me just give you a little before we talk about the game, let me give you a little like, you know, I did do the tweeting to see. Give me the download. I tweeted as I went along. The download. I'll give you the two minute version. Two minute version is I started on Friday afternoon around one. I went for about eight hours over the poconos in the snow ran out of windshield wiper fluid,
00 Jake: got to Wheeling, Ohio, which is where I was gonna stop. Stop for the night. uh... picked up the next morning early and got to since you're on eleven checked in the hotel so i suggest fans then went down to the tailgate met up with uh... actually uh... joe joe tailgate has a website but uh... huge money jets fans uh... tailgate for a couple hours uh... went to the game and uh... you know what i was treated really nice as really kinda word like a sense of the insane saying are they gonna do this They were really nice. They were a very sweet, nice guy. Nice people in general. I mean, there were a couple guys giving me crap. I think me being by myself was a little weird, like so people didn't know what to think. One guy surrounded by 50,000 Cincy fans. Just a couple little notes. I spent 22 hours of driving. Was only actually in Cincinnati for 18 hours. That was kind of weird. And I am Their stadium is really nice. It gave me a little view of what our stadium is going to be. It's a different design. Ours is going to be a bowl. The new jet stadium is going to be a bowl. This was sort of like that new kind of like things going up left and right. I like those. Justin: Kind of like the feel that the same time i like that Jake: Absolutely, and you could. You could see the field and I sat, it was interesting, I sat in a section 232 that was a section that I'm basically going to sit in next year. So it was kind of interesting to get that view, that angle. And it was cool. The whole thing about it, and then of course let's talk about the game. So, you know, hopes, prayers, you they play in week two. First of all, give me your thoughts. Give me your just immediate off-the-cuff thoughts and then we'll get into some of the specifics Justin: Uh, that was Jets football. They they played the way that they They played the way that they play they ran the ball. They threw the ball 15 times Right off the bat Sanchez played probably hit the best game I've seen him play. I don't think I've seen him play any better. Yeah, great. I love that. Step it up when it counts. Love it, kid. He really played out of his mind, as did the offensive line. And that's where we win. We win in the trenches. Benson running for buck 60. Okay. Alright, you know Average yeah, you know what carry When they needed to and that's what mattered the defense stepped up when they had to and Shane Graham Gifted us a couple times into some lucky situations but overall just played their game and Their game was better than Cincinnati's game and and that was that Jake: Yeah, the big story coming out of this, I mean, has to be, there's a couple huge stories out of this, but the big one has to be Sanchez.
01 Jake: He had a 139.4 rating, and he would have had higher if not for one pass which was knocked down at the goal line and another one which was dropped. Oh, I was about to say that pass was knocked down. No, and the one that was dropped by, so he went, you know, 12 for 15. There was two there that could have easily been one that should have been caused. So I mean, at that point he would have almost missed one pass. But again, eight, 15 attempts, right? This is, this is, I think, the way these games are going to go for a couple of years for us. I mean, until he becomes, you know, 15 attempts is good. 182 yards is great. You know, zero interceptions is the best. The only thing I felt was interesting about this game. that really struck me. There's an underlying story about Jay Feely and taking over the punter. Really interesting. But you know what it was? I like that they changed it. Yes, it was the running game, right? We played running. They knew we were going to run, but they didn't know who we were going to run. Like before it was a lot of Thomas Jones. This time we switched over to Sean Green. I liked that the wildcat that we used a lot. during the playoff win against them at the week 17 matchup, there was Brad Smith making all these runs and barely used it. I kind of just said, you know what, you're going to game plan for that, now we're going to do Smash Mouth football. So I really like that and clearly the defense, the defense was getting to Carson Palmer. I don't know what's wrong with Carson Palmer. He's a good quarterback. He's not a crap quarterback. He's not in the JP Osman category. Justin: You know what it might be about him, is that... But he was no good. Yeah, he clearly, if you get in his face, he doesn't like that. And the other thing is, the things that people say about Sanchez is that he went to USC, he went to the same high school as Sanchez. I know he's played his whole career in Cincinnati, but he's only had a couple of really good seasons. You know, his career is a lot like another number one overall pick quarterback named Drew Bledsoe. It's not great. It's okay. Jake: I think the thing coming out of 2 that I found interesting was that as a fan base, as a jet fan base, we traveled well. We traveled well. Lots of jets. fans I mean it was more when you're in the stadium you couldn't see them because it was just the sea of whatever the color orange or whatever hunting gear people must be wearing. There was hunting gear but there was a lot of so you couldn't see them they were I mean they were like two in front of me in two rows there's two three behind me you know doing the Jets chant so they were kind of all over the place I would say more in the hotel and I kind of was telling this story to some friends you know after the game. First of all, there's nothing better than being in the opposing city, walking through the streets, all these fans around you just mad as hell. I was on the phone calling people and I go back to the hotel and I'm like, again, I'm kind of traveling by myself. So, you know, because you're a pussy, you didn't want to go. So I was traveling by myself and I go up to the bar and I'm like. I'm just going to sit at the hotel bar. Of course there's jet fans all over the place.
00 Jake: There's some Cincy fans, I'm like, hey guys, how was it? Sorry about that. And they're like, no, it's OK. So I bought them a drink. And it actually became a really fun event. And they were so nice about it. And what they kept saying is, hey, listen, you guys haven't won a game since, I think, 2004. He's like in the playoffs, he's like, we haven't won a game in the playoffs for 19 years. Oh my god. And he's like, 19 years. I was like, wow. So well, let's close out this session. But give me your play and night of the game. It does not have to be the same play night. Well, they play off each other. Justin: I'll try not to take yours. My play of the game. is the Sean Green long run for the touchdown. I thought that that was a really big, really, really big play in the game. Like at that point we were losing 7-0 on the road in a playoff game. And you know, it was a big 39 yard run. That's all for this video. For more information, you can go to the website at www.fema.gov. So that was huge and it established that running game there in the second quarter. And my player of the game, who had a big role on that play and is kind of the reason why he's getting the player of the game, is Dustin Keller. He had a phenomenal game last week. We were saying... Where is Dustin Keller? Well, Dustin Keller had three huge catches. Two really, really great catches. The touchdown catch was great. The way he kept his feet in bounds. I don't even know if he did or didn't, but Cincinnati stupidly wasted two challenges in the first quarter or whatever. Marvin Lewis should be shot for that. Why would you waste a challenge in the... I mean, you... You just blew it. You can't challenge the rest of the game. Who knows if that was a touchdown? Doesn't matter. It was a touchdown on the field. And then the block on the Sean Green run was the key out on the left, the kick-out block. He was lined up as the receiver. That was a great block. And then the little screen pass, which he cut across the whole field for a huge gain. So he had a great, great game on offense. and so it was. big part of the deception play and like the misdirection. All his plays came on misdirection they were all big plays so Dustin Keller gets my night of the week. Interesting you took Jake: not only did you take my possible I was going to give a little shout out as a night to Dustin I thought you were going to pick someone else. But then you like name like four of his plays. So you see nice nice job for taking my night. Justin: My night had all the plays. I mean, my night was I know, but then you took the plate. Never mind. Jake: So my play of the game was going to be the Dustin Keller touchdown again. You know, it was great running great down the edge where you know, you can be pushed out very easily. He moved his body and was able to put the ball over there.
01 Jake: awesome play. You know the interesting thing I didn't actually see in real time, I didn't see the Sean Green play, I went to the bathroom. I was like, wasn't it towards the end of the Justin: first? Like I had to go to the bathroom. It was towards the beginning of the second quarter. Okay, so that's what it was. I went to the bathroom and then I'm literally, you Jake: know, so quiet. I'm like, what just happened? And normally when a big thing happens, you know the stadium goes crazy but I'm used to my stadium. It's quiet and I come back and I woke up and I'm like, what happened? The guy's like, you missed it. The E-ring protestant. Yes. And my player of the game is the interesting side story, which is that the punter, Weatherford, had heart palpitations or a regular heartbeat. was right before the game after the warm ups was told he couldn't play. And in comes Jay Feely who, you know, for pretty much this whole season has been pretty clutch. Well he was double clutch because he came out and did the punting as well. So we had our kicker kicking and doing punts and didn't do a bad job. Like he had never practiced. He practiced once. He never kicked in high school, never kicked in college. He never practiced? And literally they just... He never practiced it? He practiced it once this week. Justin: once this week. You would think that like kickers would always just what are they doing just kicking through the uprights all day long? I don't know. That's why at least five times a day. Jake: I don't know. He literally said I've never practiced it except for once and you know that's that's clutch. I give him my night of the game. Play the game is the uh the Dustin Keller touchdown, but yet neither the game gotta go to the guy who like has never done something comes up and that could have been huge I could we had someone out there who didn't know what they're doing a great job loves it, you know, I Know he did a great job. So that's the thing like we feel we had a guy had flubbing it That could have changed that the makeup of that game But anyway great game so awesome jets are still alive in the playoffs. It has been a while Since actually 2006 we won a thousand four. We won a playoff game. It's been a while since my hope You know has been spread this this deep I guess and then let's talk about the rest of playoffs because Justin: Some other stuff going on in the the old NFL awesome awesome awesome stuff going on Out there. Let's talk about let's talk about the corner and some great games I was gonna say there's some great out in the corner and there were some great games So what did you pick? Jake: Obviously you picked the Jets. I just want to talk about the four games. What did you pick in the four games? Well let's pick game by game. So obviously you picked the Jets, you got the Jets. Nice. So you must have picked Dallas. Must have picked Dallas in the end. Justin: Yeah, I picked Philly to beat Dallas. That was the only game I missed. Jake: That's when you lost oh, that's interesting cuz I picked actually II pick Philly too and I you know I didn't get to watch that game. I must admit. I got back to my hotel room I was partying down at the bar. I got back and
03 Jake: Before I knew it it was sleepy time, so I didn't actually get to watch the Cowboys Eagles game I've seen all the I've seen all the plays, but um you have to drive them much later game hours and It was so much of a pain. Yeah, it didn't look like it. When I fell asleep, it was pretty much kind of getting towards the way of over. I'm very surprised that the Eagles kind of laid down two weeks in a row. And I'm very surprised that the Cowboys are playing that well. And again, it'll be interesting. We'll talk about the matchups that are coming up because I think... There's very interesting magic coming up next week. Let's talk about Sunday morning. Just to give you again for those people who out there, I was driving back on Sunday. I knew that I wouldn't be able to watch the whole game. I was trying to time it so I'd get back about half time. That meant I was up at 4.30 in the morning. I left at 4.30. I was driving 11 hours. So I got back around three ish So I listened to the first half of this game and I swear to you I thought I turned to like the joke channel because I'm listening to it's like okay first play of the game here we go and The Ravens hand off to you know, whatever and he runs and runs and runs and touchdown I'm like really then like second play the game Brady goes back and strips act I'm like what what just happened and then he's touched down and like I couldn't And again, without seeing it, you're just listening to it. I was stunned. So I never actually got to see the first half, but it sounded like it just destroyed them in the first half. Justin: It was stunning to actually watch that game. I watched every game over the weekend, like a real football fan, unlike you. Yeah, who traveled to see his own fan. Right, right. Yeah, I'd rather watch all four games from the comfort of my own home. But anyway, you know, the point here is that Baltimore beat the crap out of New England and we I think we both picked this one. Did we not? I know I did. Jake: I did. A lot of people did not. They thought that a lot of people thought this was a crazy pick. Justin: that that mystique uh gets people that brady balochak mystique that whole you know they're not gonna they haven't lost this whole mid forever yeah well i mean they didn't even lose a game there this year i mean this year they didn't lose there so i mean they don't they it doesn't happen like it was it but for some reason i i think i don't think we were the only two people who picked Baltimore. People saw this happening. Brady clearly was injured without Welker. He didn't have his little safety valve even though Edelman's pretty good. Randy Moss plays like, you know, 25% of the time. And that's that. They don't have a running game. So you have an injured quarterback with three broken ribs and broken finger. His favorite receiver sitting on the sidelines or up in the booth with the owner. And the best receiver on the field isn't even playing. So it's like...
05 Justin: you know, maybe they're talking about that team coming close to, you know, the end of their run. So, you know, it's time for a young up and coming team in the AFC East to take over. Jake: It's a lot of talk about the end of the Patriots. I think it's a little early to say the end of the Patriots. I will say, a couple of reasons I thought. Well, a couple reasons I think that they lost this game that I thought they'd lose this game. One, don't let the Patriots. Two, Baltimore played them very tough in the first one. And if not for a couple calls, they might have, in a drop pass, they would have won that one. Baltimore also played like the Jets all season long in that they... They got very close to winning. They almost beat New England. I mean, they almost beat New England. They almost beat India. I think they almost beat Cincy in the two losses. They never, as far as I, again, I don't know the whole season, but like the Jets, we were in every game. I think one game we kind of got out of, maybe the Patriots game, we got kind of out of control. We were basically in every game and the Ravens were in every game. And so here's to two wildcard teams hungry and with defenses that are pretty good. And if any team is going to stand up in the playoffs, you know, I would think the Ravens did. They did it last year. They stood up and they won some games. I thought they were going to do it again this year. So interesting. They won. Glad they did. And then we got the final game, which I actually think is a travesty. I think this game... I know people like it's the wild card shootout. It's the Packers and the Cardinals. The Packers went and destroyed them in week 17. And then I started watching this game. I'm like, OK, so here we go. We got the number two defense in the league, Green Bay Packers, against the Cardinals, who they just destroyed the week before. Most everybody said Packers are going to win this game. They're going to go and win. And then it just turns into this like. Thank you so much for watching. It's the Packers get dry. I think they were down by 21 points or something and they said Justin: At one point 31 time would be 20 points down at some point. Yeah Jake: And I was like Two a couple things about this game and then you know, we can move on but because it is the playoffs is not not Packer Kingdom podcast, but one is I don't think games without defense are that exciting to watch. I think they're actually kind of dumb. It reminds me of basketball. You know I don't like basketball. It's the same thing. It's just score, score, score, score, score, score. Where's the defense? 45, 45 and you go to overtime. That's a basketball game. Like that's not fun. Good defense makes a good game. I don't want to see a 3-2 game or a 6-3 game, but a 45-45 game, I don't want to see that game either. I didn't think that was really interesting to watch. And the other thing is, I cannot believe that that game ended on a face mask penalty not
00 Jake: being called. They have called every fucking thing against players all season long for touching the Brady calls against Brady for touching the quarterback. Here is a full on pull down ripped his head downward face mask hand inside the face mask pulling down his head is down like against the quarterback the quarterback you're supposed to be protecting this whole way. and they do not call it that should have been a 15 yard automatic first down they would have been at the 50 and that game would have been the Packers. I don't think Aaron Rodgers should play for the soccer team he shouldn't try to kick a ball if your ball is dropping let it drop don't try to kick it what are you what are you gonna do if you kick it was somebody to catch it Justin: but still I don't think he tried to kick it I think it just hit his leg Jake: He did just no no no watch his leg his leg comes up to me He tried to kick it because he thought well if I could just kick it to somewhere else Maybe I can do something. Yeah, it was it was but I just I cannot stand that they this inconsistency And this is this is the thing I'm gonna I'm gonna shoot for now and talk about forever on I said this before in a couple podcasts. I'm gonna say it again if you're gonna do instant replay Everything on the field during regulation time should be under instant replay. If I want to do an instant replay on, if I want to throw the red flag, I got two or three, whatever it is a game. If I want to throw it because you flipped the coin and I don't think the coin flip was right, let them do it. If it's on a pla, it was on a penalty that wasn't called, let them do it. If it's on a penalty that was called, let them do it. Again, they only get a couple, so it's not like it's going to slow down the game any more than it does now. But if you're going to do instant replay, if the idea is we want the truth of what happened on the field to come out, then anything. I don't care if it's a bird flies down and you want to see if it pooped on the 30th or the 31st. Anything should be reviewable by instant replay. And I just wish they would get there because the whole idea that you can't do an instant replay, you can only do an instant replay on something that did happen versus something that wasn't called drives me crazy. Because more often than not, it's the thing that wasn't called that's the game changer, not the thing that was called. Go ahead, your thoughts. Justin: Wow. Yeah. I love this game. I like watching shootouts. I also like watching teams not quit when they're losing by a lot of points. The quarterbacks played amazing. Kurt Warner was unstoppable. And I'm just gonna say I'll let this lead into our next topic, which is the defensive player of the year. There's absolutely no fucking way that the defensive player of the year should be on a team that gives up 45 points in regulation. You know, if you have the best defensive player in the league, then the quarterback of the opposing team should not finish the game you
00 Justin: with a 88% completion percentage and a 154, whatever that means, quarterback rating. He really just shouldn't be having that kind of game. And the guy that you're guarding shouldn't score two touchdowns. And I'll just let that kind of go into our next topic of the Defensive Player of the Year. award being announced, I believe today as we record this podcast on Tuesday. And it was Charles Woodson. And I'll go ahead and give a couple of things. So one, I truly believe Dorell Reavis is the best cornerback and probably the best defensive player in the NFL. I'm a bit biased because I'm a Jets fan, obviously. And I've been able to watch, just a little bit, and I've been able to watch him play all year and see everyone in his game. So I've seen how good he is. Like, I've watched him shut down receiver after receiver after receiver after receiver with absolutely no help. Man to man, mano a mano, Randy Moss, I don't give a shit, Tio, Ocho Cinco, whoever. I'll face you twice, I'll shut you down twice. Um... So that's one thing. But, with that said, you know, Woodson's had a really, really good season. He had a lot of interceptions. He had some touchdowns. And when you score on defense, that's big. And he's been doing it for a long, long time. And I think, unfortunately... Jake: you Justin: in the NFL particularly that means something. So even though it's a defensive player of this year award, the fact that Woodson's been doing it for 10 plus years impacts the decision of the voters I believe. And unfortunately, you know, Woodson had more interceptions. Does that mean he was the better player? I don't think so. but that's just my opinion. Jake: I agree. I think it's not the hugest travesty to ever hit the airwaves. It was clearly up between those two players. Did Woodson get it off his... I think your thing about the playoffs is right. The thing I'd have to say is they made the vote before the playoffs happened. And that was the number two defense and they had the ability to shut down players. I think if you put their stats up, the interceptions, I think is a is a big stat. It's like in baseball, the home runs, a big stat. But it but there's the stats. There's the other flip side of the stats that were much better for Reavis, which is OK. Who did he match up with and what did they do? So yeah, Rivas doesn't intercept as much and he's not fast. I mean, he's fast but when he gets the ball, you can notice like he doesn't like not like Ed Reed that just takes you to the house every time. He kind of, he tries but he's just not his thing but he can cover like a mother.
04 Jake: And what he does opposing quarterbacks is much, much more impressive than catching a couple balls from, you know, getting two balls from some crappy quarterback. Also realizing the quarterback play in, you know, if you play Detroit Lions twice a year, you can get 17, you know, interceptions, right? I mean, there's a situation where they. I don't know this guy, but I'm gonna look I bet you I bet you if we stacked up who they played versus who we played in terms of the quarterback play and the quarterback rating of those players my guess is we played better we played better quarterbacks throughout the year therefore you're not gonna get as many interceptions therefore Anyway, I agree. Rivas should have won it. I think everybody was pulling for him, but he didn't get it. Next year, besides, you know what? Where's Woodson right now? Yeah, he's going to play golf. Where's Rivas right now? Oh yeah, well he's starting to play against some of the best wide receivers and one of the best quarterbacks in the league. So, who's better off for it? But I agree. One other thing, gotta do a shout out before we get to our thrown picks. I'm shouting out to Mike T. Mike Tannenbaum. I actually posted this in one of the forums. I'm doing it again here. Because as I watched that game and I went back and looked at the thing and I went back and looked at who were the stars of that game. game, look at the stars of that game. Sanchez and Green both picked last year. Moved up for Meneagled to get around. Both him. Debrick. Mangold. These are people that Mike T brought in in the first round. These are guys he's brought in. the Keller I mean these are guys he's he's picked up and they are now the face of this franchise That's huge. Yes, Golston biggest flub ever. I like to blame man genie Apparently the rumor is that it's his fault that he pushed for him other than that Mike T has been my tandem bomb part of T-Rex has been on point and I love the way he general manages this team and the way he goes out and gets players and his ability to pick players is really good. Better than a lot. You look at what's happening to the Patriots, a lot of us come because their draft choices are not so good. Mike Tannenbaum, you know him and actually Rex Ryan. I like this combination for whatever happens this year if we get our asses handed to us on Sunday. I like the direction this team is going. I can honestly say that. I like that. I think there's two guys out there who seem to be in the front of the place who are kind of doing some good stuff. Anyway, that's my thought to Mike T. But let's talk about some throwing picks. How did you do last week? You said you did three and one. I did two and two. I got three and one.
00 Jake: I missed the...yeah. Yeah. I missed both the two late games. I missed the NFC. I got the NFC. I missed the NFC. Who you got for this week? Let's go game by game. I want scores and I want winners. We're going to go right down by the schedule because it just happened to be last. First up is on... Saturday afternoon, 4.30pm, the same thing as last week. We got a 4.30pm, 8.30pm, and then a 1.04pm. We got Arizona Cardinals going to Norlin Saints. Norlin is off a huge bye week and also playing at home where they normally play better. What do you think? Justin: Well, I think New Orleans is going to... come out of their little slump and you know finally kick it and beat Arizona this week. I think New Orleans has a slightly better just balanced game more balanced they play a little more defense I think and their crowd's just gonna be insane. They're gonna be tough to beat in New Orleans this first round. So I'm gonna go with another shootout score, because these two teams are totally capable of it. And just say it's the last person with the ball wins. New Orleans has it last. They win 45-38. Jake: I'm not going to follow you on the shootout. I do think the Saints will win. Again, the defense for the Arizona Cardinals can't. They let a team come back from almost dead to rights. It's exactly the opposite of what happened in Baltimore right defense gets up like that. They should just rise the occasion and like destroy a team. They've got you down They know exactly what you're gonna do. I mean, I don't know how many runs they tried after that But probably you know one or two they should be able to defend against that it turns them into one side of team I think the Norlin Saints will get up fast and I actually think it's not gonna be shoot out I think they're gonna keep This is the thing that happens to Cardinals. Once they get down, they will not be able to fight back. I think that the Norlin Saints win this at home. Big home team. 34-21. Then we got the Baltimore Ravens. 31-21. Then we got the Baltimore Ravens. The X. Thanks. Colts going to meet the Indianapolis Colts. So Ravens coming off a huge, huge win. And the current Colts and the Ravens coming off a huge win. This is a rematch because they played regular season and actually they almost won it. They were close. It was like within a three point game. So what do you think is going to happen? Justin: Yeah, for that very reason. And for the other two reasons of me being a crazy motherfucking Jetfan who wants another home game,
06 Justin: and the fact that Indy hasn't played in a month, I'm gonna go ahead and pick Baltimore. I think they have this inside track where they've played the team already. They know they can play with them. That gives them confidence and then they have you know guys like Ray Lewis Those guys are a dime a dozen are not the opposite of a dime They don't they don't come around often where they can really Inspire and get their teammates up and play and you know go crazy and and and and get a hold You know rattle Peyton Manning it's happened in the past so I think Baltimore's gonna win 24 21 Little bit of heart little bit of reasoning behind that Jake: Yeah, I'll go I'll go 99% heart On my pick as well. I think the reasoning is true They almost won the last time. This is almost like the Patriots, right? The Patriots unbeatable at home in the first in the playoffs and they're just wonderful in Tom Brady. And the Baltimore Ravens, who almost beat them, step up in the playoffs. I think they're going to step up. Yes. Do I need it to happen? Yes, I do. Do I want it to happen? Yes, I do. Do I think it can happen? I actually do and I will pick them. 15 13 Think is the reverse of the one they had before but I'm picking Baltimore Ravens to win Well, we remember that indie Baltimore game years ago that actually was all field goals. No one scored a touchdown It was something like that. I think that's kind of a repeat 15 13 Baltimore Ravens win then Justin: The other reason why I want Baltimore to win. Sorry is is because I again pick them before the season started to be in the Superwall. So I want to keep that alive too. Until next week, of course. Jake: Then we have the Dallas Cowboys, who off of Big Win playing strong. They're calling them the hottest team in the playing. Maybe they're calling them the hottest team in the NFC. They're calling our next opponent, the hottest team in the AFC. Big win against. You know, three teams in a row, the only thing I want to say is that they played the Saints before, they won against the Saints, they played the Redskins, the Redskins laid down, no coach, they're gone. Then the Eagles kind of just flubbed it twice. So then Dallas goes to Minnesota to take on Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. What do you think happens? Justin: You know, Dallas is a little inflated because Yeah, they beat New Orleans, but New Orleans was ready to lose at that point. I think there were like 13-0. They were ready to lose. And then they, like you said, they beat some crappy teams and Philly just didn't match up with them. They lost three times to Dallas this year and they only lost three other games the rest of the year. So, you know, Dallas to me is not... the team to beat here. I think Minnesota and the Favre and really the Peterson is going to win
06 Justin: this game because Dallas is not going to be able to do what they did against Philly up front, which is you know they were playing against the backup center and they were able to knock him around and DeMarcus Ware was able to do his thing. So Peterson's gonna keep them a lot more off guard. I do think it would be close, but Minnesota eats it out 27-24 Jake: Wow well scoring for those two teams, but uh I agree I agree wow we're pretty much gonna agree in all the games here Dallas I think Dallas is a little bit Overhyped and I think Minnesota is not hyped enough. They lost a couple games they came back at the end unlike the Saints though, and they whooped the pants off of the The the Giants, so I think that they're not going in I think I think Brett played most that game if not the whole game If anybody needs a lot of retinied the rest I think it's that screen pass. You can see DeMarcus Ware just coming in hard and strong and Peterson going out, throwing him a screen pass and watching him take it 80 yards. I think that's really dangerous for that heavy, very aggressive front. Um... But yeah, I think Dallas loses this one. I think it's going to be a little bit lopsided. I think there's going to be a couple games that are going to be lopsided. I think this is the one that's going to be lopsided as well. I think it's Minnesota 31, Dallas 20. And then we have the matchup of the week. We have the New York Century headed to the San Diego Chargers. where we haven't played them this year although we've played them in the past and played them pretty well actually. There was that season we played them in the beginning and beat them and then went to the playoffs and beat them in in San Diego. You know San Diego is a interesting team. They're on a streak. They've won 11 games in a row which is always setting someone up for a loss. They're not a very good running team even though they have LT which is strange. LT is kind of towards the end of his you know Career now he's not in the beginning of it. I don't think they've had a hundred-yard rusher all year They're not very good against the pass I think the 30-second in rushing and they're not very good against they're not very good against the the rush either I think 20th in blocking the rush so that kind of sets up an interesting thing for the Jets because what are we good at? We're good at the past defense, that's what they're good at. We're good at running the ball, that's what they're bad at. So it's an interesting matchup. What do you think happens? Justin: Oh, I think we win. Oh yeah, we will win. You know, I think there's something to say about Um... 11 game winning streaks and then having a bye week. That bye week to me kills that.
03 Justin: So all that buzz, all that hype, all that momentum that you had, you sort of lose and you almost peak early when you go on an 11 game winning streak into the playoffs to get a bye. I know it's nice and you have the old running back in LT and he's gonna you know, try and be fresh and whatnot. But the only thing that worries me while there's two on offense for San Diego is Antonio Gates. He's a nightmare for us. Kerry Rhodes can't cover him, either can Eric Smith. And Darren Sproles, little screen passes. Those worry me. But other than that, I think the Jets do match up pretty well against them. I think we're going to be able to run the ball. We'll throw Reavis out there on Vincent Jackson, and they don't have really another receiver. I think they have one other guy, but he's just like a deep threat. So I'm going to pick the Jets. 21-17. Jake: Wow, I knew you were going to pick the Jets, I was more wowing at the score. I totally agree, and as I was saying, I think we match up well. Do I think this is going to be a domination? No. We are still a pretty good defense. We still defend pretty good against the pass, whether it's whoever is playing back there. And that's what we're going to do here. Carson Palmer has an ability. Sorry Carson Palmer. Justin: Sorry, Philip Rivers. Is that the name he was looking for? Jake: Philip Rivers. Yeah, I was flubbing on his name. Philip Rivers has, he's a good quarterback. You know, in some circles, if you're throwing the top 10, he makes top five. I mean, he's a good quarterback. He's... He's been in the league a while now. It's interesting that this team has flip-flopped from being a very run defense team to now a passing team. It used to be all about the run because they had LT. We're going to run the ball. What are you going to do? Now, they used to have this dominating defense in and out a couple of years. This year it's like the defense is okay, but it's not dominating. They barely beat Oakland by three points twice or four points twice. So okay, but that's not right. The last game they lost was to the Broncos. It's not, and if you look at who they beat, they're not really destroying people. So it's not like they can put up trillions of points against anybody. We have a good defense. We have a good running game. Here's two things I think you're going to see in the game. Two predictions. If it happens, you can come back and tell me how brilliant I am. Two things. One, return to Brad Smith. We put Brad Smith on the shelf. We're going to take him off the shelf. We're going to be throwing that crap at them. I don't know how well they do against the wild card seminal, tiger package, I think we call it. But we're going to be throwing that at him. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Um, two is, I think you're going to see the return of, and I hope it's successful, the
02 Jake: fake pun. I think you're going to see the return of the fake pun. Um, it was very successful throughout the year. I think we tried it maybe four times and got it every time. Uh, it's off the top of my head. I think you're going to see that. This is a game, just like every other game, that since we've earned the pros and cons of Sanchez. as. We need Sanchez to stay high completion, low attempts, high completion rate. We want you to throw between 12 and 15 times. We want you to complete between 9 and 12 of those throws, and we want you to throw zero interceptions. That's what we need you to do. Can he throw one? Yeah, you can throw one, but that's it. And then we need our offensive line, which I think can make serious damage, to dominate. And I think they can do that. So it's a matter of, can we get a little bit of a lead? Three to ten points, or even seven points to start off the game. get them to do three and out or whatever, come back, put up another three, and start to beat them down with a big, big running game with just enough Sanchez sprinkled in. So it's like you get someone and hopefully Braillyn Edwards doesn't drop another one. Oh man, he's dropped more than a few in the end zone now. Justin: I feel like I now know what Cleveland fans were really feeling because now it's starting to really bother me. Jake: It's interesting because he hasn't cost us a game. I think that's why no one is going nuts because even though he's dropped, he's also caught some really incredible passes, but he has, he's kind of like he's 50 50 hit or miss. Like if he either, if he's going to catch something, it's going to be an amazing catch and he's going to run and get a lot of yards. If he's going to drop it, it's going to be like the most easy in his face. Like how could you drop that pass? Um... He's actually not practicing today because he's up in Cleveland going to court, so maybe that will make him not drop past. I don't know. I'm really interested to see how this rolls out. But if we win, and let's say it's a big if, because again, on the road against a very hot team, in the playoffs, whatever, and if the Baltimore Ravens win, the AFC Championship will be in the Meadowlands. Which is absolutely insane. Never happened to get before in the history of the NFL. I think some of the things that have happened this season, I think we could all chalk up to never happen before. We needed so many things to happen to get into this playoffs. Part of me, some part of me thinks maybe this is just what's meant to happen. So if the Baltimore Ravens win on Saturday and we went on Sunday. The AFC championship, I think every Jeff and knows this, will be played in the metal and the first time ever the two wildcard teams one. And then took it back to the fifth seed over the six. But amazing if it happens, I'll be amazed. I'm calling it New York just 19 San Diego 17. So for all you better-
01 Justin: Are they gonna have the ball at the end? And driving or not? Like to get a field goal? And is locating gonna miss another field goal? Jake: Umm... no I don't think it'll be that. I think that last 17 might be them trying to get that last thing and we'll run the ball for the rest of it. So they might be down. You know what? It might be at 1419 and they might go down and kick the field goal and then need to do the on-site kick kind of thing but again, I'm I'd be happy to have a you know Raiders too if you gave it to me I don't think that's gonna happen but uh Justin: Yeah, well, you know, what's interesting is there's there's one thing that we're overlooking is the north Turner factor Which is to say that he is one of the worst playoff coaches ever. So there's always something that comes up in bites in the ass. Jake: What is he going to do to make this game winnable by the Jets? There's always a question. Well think about it. Justin: Besides make bad calls. Think about it. Make bad calls get you know get conservative at the wrong times get ballsy at the wrong times go for it on a fourth down Hunt when you should have not putt, you know all sorts of wacky decisions that you can make during a game that can make the game You know one decision can really just make it look Completely overblown I remember when the Jets won that game in San Diego And it was Marty Schottenheimer coaching that team and it was like Marty Ball all of a sudden lost San Diego the game It wasn't the players it was Marty because Marty couldn't win in the playoffs and he instead of trying to get more yards settled for a 45 yard kick from Kading ran the ball up the middle three times in a row with Tomlinson instead of you know trying to get some more yards and the guy missed the field goal and that was Marty's fault because he ran the ball three times up the middle on the dive play and the kit instead of trying to get to a thirty-yard field goal he settled for a forty four forty five forty six yard field goal anything anything can go wrong to a coach so uh... you know any call that he makes well he should have called it time out there or uh... he should have let it go to the two minute warning or who the fuck knows anything you know Jake: I absolutely hope you're right. I mean we'll see but well we're both doing just to win But that doesn't really matter because we've done that all season all right little news about the jet Kingdom podcast We are going to be starting This is the this is so the good and bad of becoming a popular podcast which we really think we are and it sounds like we are from all the listeners out there and that we're watching Download the podcast we're gonna be starting some advertising so will not be obnoxious it will not be in your face It will be if we have a 50 minute podcast it'll be a minute here or two But if you're out there and you're an advertiser and you'd like to do some advertising on the jet Kingdom the very popular Jet Kingdom podcast send an email to advertising at

Alright, let's go to some tweets and questions. We actually have two this week that we're going to answer. One is actually already posted last week on the forums and we didn't notice it. That's kind of an indicator. later. Hi guys, this is from Marcus Netters. Hi guys, I have a question. Do you like the jet being the underdog or the favorite? Hearing the analyst finally giving us love because of the way the Bengals while possibly laying down some, they were still blown out. Let's go to the question because the Bengals game is coming on. But let's go to the question, do you like being the favorite or do you like being the underdog? Justin: dog. I personally like being the underdog. I think that there's a mentality in the NFL of, yay, they don't think we can do this type of thing that always seems to work. It's us against them. It's, you know, no one thinks we can do this. Let's band together and do it. So I always like the underdog, or being the underdog in games. A lot of expectations when you're the favorite too. And it looks like the Jets would be the underdog moving forward pretty much in any game they play unless they were to host Baltimore. And even in that I could see that being a pick type game. Maybe two to an ask points for the Jets being home. Jake: Yeah, we were 7.5 points underdog now, you're right. So yeah, definitely the underdog. There's something, I mean, I became a jet fan because they were underdogs, like the one in 15 seasons. So clearly, and you're right, the NFL kind of hyped up about that. There's also less to lose. You know, as a fan point of view, it's less to lose when you're the underdog. Because you're the underdog. If you lose, well, we were the underdog. If you go in as like the favorite and you lose, it's worse. You're like, fuck, we were the favorite. How do we lose this game? So, and every time the Jets this season too, I mean, the thing about the games that we should have won, I mean, it's like, should have won this game, should have won the Bills, should have won the Jacksonville game. Thank you. like we just didn't do well. So I'd totally rather be the underdog. It's tough because how do you be the underdog and be successful? So if you wanna win the AFC East next year, let's hope, please God, you're not gonna be the underdog. You're gonna be the favorite, right? Cause then you're gonna be going up against a wild card team. So at some point we have to get over that mentality and say, we're a good team. We're gonna go and we're gonna smack your mouth and we're gonna take over and doesn't matter what you say or we say.
09 Jake: Everybody gets paid to play. or if he doesn't get a head coach up, hope you're doing well. So I'll throw it to you. Schottenheimer is actually up for... the bills have been acquired about him. He's always been actually inquired about, in fact he was one of the people that the Jets interviewed before hiring Rex Ryan. What do you think about the keeping of Brian Schottenheimer as offensive coordinator? Justin: Alright, so all year I've been complaining about Brian Schadenheimer. And I really only want one of two things to happen, really. If he's gonna leave, I want him to go be the Bills head coach. Because I don't think he's gonna be a good head coach. I truly believe that. I truly believe that he is one of those guys that is a coordinator. And when he gets the head coaching position, he's too young maybe for it right now. So if he's going to get a head coaching job, go to the bills. I wouldn't mind that. But, you know, I don't think you can fire him. So, I don't think fire him. If he gets a head coaching job, fine. But they will not deliberately get rid of him. Rex likes him. The continuity of the offense is important. Remember you have a really great offensive line that he's built there and a running game that he's designed behind it. that is really working very well and the continuity of a young quarterback with their offensive coordinator is very important so I guess I would say if he's gonna leave we're not gonna fire him and go be the Bills head coach otherwise I'd want him back. Jake: Yeah, I agree. I think those are probably the only two scenarios that he needs because he wants to go be the bills or he stays. I think for all the reasons you mentioned, it's very important that he stays. First of all, a lot of the things that we didn't like about what were happening to the offense. could easily be said about Sanchez, you know a lot that A What I always thought about, I didn't like was Schottenheimer, a couple things. One, he just wants to wing the ball, do formations, changeups, he wants to make it look confusing. He sometimes doesn't play to his strengths. The other thing is, sometimes he also game plans a little bit too much, meaning he had the man geniitis, which is... you Here's the game plan I'm going to use and I'm not going to make any adjustments, right?
02 Jake: No matter if it's going well or not, I'm just going to play this game and sometimes it's like well, you know, you're not, it's not working. Give up, do something else. So but I will say that being said, huge things. Rex does like him. It's a very important, I think, for Sanchez to get one more year with him. Even if he's not the greatest offensive coordinator, he's someone to. He's someone who can teach rec Sanchez something and I think they can grow together You know over the next year Also since Rex Ryan has said I'm not taking over the offense, but I'm influencing I don't know what it was I think Rex went in and said he goes said we're run team stop all this throwing shit stop putting Sanchez in a position Where he has to throw just run it And if you throw the ball a couple times, fine. And you've seen since then, we've been much more successful. In fact, pretty good. So I think he's coming to terms with what he needs to do with Sanchez. Sanchez is coming to, and if that were to stop right now, we would get someone new. Like, ah, well, it'd be nice just to keep that momentum going. Sanchez another year in his belt. That's all for this video. the same mentality, a good defense, let's run the ball, let's give Sanchez high percentage, pass attempts. I actually do want him to stay, but you're right. If he were to go, being the first head coach over in Buffalo with the meltdown that the Buffalo Bills are, great, because you'll be six and 10 next year, just like you were this year. That's it for the tweets and questions. or worse so you know just the fish of the podcast like to say you know false on facebook go to become a fan project in dot com and there's a little fan thing on the side there you can become a fan object kingdom uh... we post uh... things are going on up there uh... we actually had a poll last week uh... that's what i've been said which wildcard team at the best shot the symbol Look at that, 54.5% of you say it's the Jets! over the Ravens the Packers of the Eagles Interesting enough since both the Packers and Eagles are out of it That's not that's not a bad shot since the Ravens are only one answer jet Kingdom as a jet podcast Also follow us on Twitter I'm on twitter.com slash jet Kingdom and Justin here is twitter.com slash just jet Kingdom Just jet Kingdom.
