03 Jake: This is the 63rd episode of the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Monday, January 4th, 2010. and play off rematch. of the women. Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast coming to you on an early Monday edition across the I guess playoff winning Super Bowl. Oh wait what? Oh man it's almost Freudian. playoff winning digital aisle and joining me for the first time in 2010. Justin, hey Justin, how you doing? Justin: I'm all right. I thought we were gonna call it a frosty digital aisle or a frozen digital aisle or something like that, but you managed to call it a Super Bowl winning digital aisle this week. Jake: So, all right, way to be. Yeah, wow, that's a little bit of a little bit ahead of the We're ahead of the pack. I'm ahead of yourself. Yeah, a little bit. Well, we'll get to that a little later. So let's talk about, you know, well, let's talk about the agenda and then we'll get right into it. So today we're going to clearly talk about the Jets versus NC game and all of the joy that it was. Which one? Let's not even call it. Let's call it a game. Let's talk about both We'll pick our night and play the game for the game that was We'll answer last week's question, which was what are your top three stadium moments? We'll pick over our review of last week's throne picks and see who won that. Also just throw in there a look at our predictions for this season now that the actual regular season is who did what and how close we got. Then we'll make some playoffs thrown picks since we got four games coming up of which one really matters and We'll go over all games giving scores for each one we got a couple tweets and I got a segment that will come that I'll be talking about for Friday and Saturday and Then we'll give a segment and then we'll a segment. I don't know about the segment see that's Justin: you like to do you always do that lots something that rose my game off people think i'm like slow or something Jake: yeah well they'd be right so uh... let's talk about the game let's do it as we went back as we went back to the uh... last last week it was winning in the jets and the baltimore ravens controlled their own destiny going into the playoffs and the and the Jets had to win over Cincy and this is a game that- that Cincy actually did win, although they were playing for the 3 seed,
04 Jake: they would have been going to 3 seed since Houston won. This got bumped to the night game. And so we had probably one of the coldest games I've ever been to by very very far. It was freezing. Justin: It was so cold. But, you lawmaker, I must say I wasn't really that cold once the game started. I really wasn't. First of all, I was dressed appropriately. So, I had about five layers on it, neck thing whole nine but that was a phenomenal performance by The Jets that's what the Jets are what they did last night they They beat up they beat the crap out of Cincinnati. I think they were playing with their starters on offense minus the running back, which is key because he's a big player for them, Benson. But for the most part that that was their starters on defense I think they sat a bunch of guys like four guys five guys two guys. Yeah Yeah, so so it's not really a true indication of what we're gonna see next week Of course will be on the road as well But you got to look at the game last night and think wow we have a really good shot of winning this game I feel pretty good about you know the next week because of what we were able to do we were able to impose jets football onto cincinnati and made them play our game we ran all over them we held the ball we had the ball for uh more than two-thirds of the game uh 41 over 41 minutes which is pretty phenomenal they went nowhere they had like i think I have the stats in front of me. They had five first downs in the whole game. Carson Palmer threw for zero yards. Mind you, he played the entire first half. Did he come out in the second half? I don't recall. Yes he did. He actually played one. He did, right? Jake: He did. He played one play, one series in the second half, yeah. Justin: I mean, he went one for 11 for zero yards at an interception. The guy was... I cannot imagine that. that that's not gonna sink in to his head for next week that he's not gonna have that in the back of his mind I mean I know if we saw Sanchez in in the reverse if we saw Sanchez go you know throw up a clunker we wouldn't want to have him come back and play Then next week we'd be thinking like oh shit, you know, here he comes against the number one defense in the league He had a zero rating. Here we go But they really came to play and I was really impressed that that they weren't the same old Jets last night They closed that place down the right way They played hard to the end and preserved the shutout and I think they wanted that shutout.
06 Justin: That was big. Bart Scott was in there at the end of the game. That's crazy. Get off the field. Don't get hurt. Jake: No, it's true. I mean, this was obviously for all those jet fans out there, you all know this was a historic game in a lot of different ways. uh... thomas jones actually be his own best record for thirteen is thirteen touchdowns for the season uh... which is announced during the game it was it how he's not a problem yeah i was you know last year i think he just doesn't have the name recognition you know he's just and and and how is reagan i've learned he's not Because Thomas Jones is a pedestrian player. He's a hard working guy and he goes out there and he puts down his yards But he's not putting down He's not making those, you know 5060 yard dashes that Chris Johnson does that gets on the highlight reels and and that's what Pro Bowl is about It's about getting on the highlight reels You know Brad Smith has a better chance next year of getting on the highlight getting on the Pro Bowl Because if he keeps playing like he's playing now He's gonna get those shots where someone will say, did you see that play where he went 90 yards or where he did the Wildcat for whatever, whatever? But anyway, going back to the game, freezing, freezing cold, we got there, what, 4.30. For nature of the games, that's pretty crazy. Yeah, sorry, that'd be me. I got there for 30. We did some really good tailgating. It was awesome. Again, it was fun to kind of be there. It had all the moments, it had all the things. It had everything I wanted about the last game at the Meadowlands. It was a meaningful game. It actually was more than meaningful. It was exciting. It was a play to get into the playoff game. And we talked about this at the beginning of the season and last year, I think, you know, talking about what's going to be that last game. Well, I think when the schedule came out, oh, Cincinnati versus jets. Wow. That's interesting. Yeah, Cincinnati probably won't be in it, but they'll probably control our fate. Interesting. They were in it and they still controlled our fate, meaning if they, you know, had beat us, we wouldn't have been in. But what more can you ask for? I mean, other than a sunny day in December, if it had been 65 degrees, which would have been nice. But that would have been great. It was epically cold, which is beautiful. They handed up those towels, which I have at least a stack of over here. And it just was an amazing game in that stadium. Now, the actual game, I mean, really, is a Brad Smith game. I mean, in. to be you know he put up more yards than thomas jones and sean green did he he ran the wild card or the seminar or whatever very well glared at it was a jets football game yeah it was a jet it was but it wasn't it it was it was a game that that nobody did anything to lose the game i also think looking at i mean just going back looking at some of the you
00 Jake: know the highlight reals that i've been watching this morning and Baskin the glory that is being a jazz fan when you make playoffs It doesn't look like the Bengals sort of I won't say that they didn't try But it didn't it didn't look just on their best game I mean clearly they weren't on the best game because they couldn't score a first down I mean they couldn't get for a while there couldn't get a first down clearly they you know, they just got shut down completely Well, that's just I don't know. There's just something about that team now were they kind of half-harding it? Did they, they're like, goddamn this is cold, why are we out here? Why do we have to play? I think that was it. I think that was it. Justin: I think the cold got to them more than it got to us. Jake: I hope it's cold as hell in Cincinnati. Justin: I hope it's cold as hell next week. I wanna play that same game. Jake: It's supposed to be. Justin: Like their receivers didn't even want to catch the ball like like we'll talk about a couple wanna catch it Jake: Let's talk about that game in a second, but a couple other things otro cinco is ocho. Note nado ocho zero He actually has to change his he has to He has to change his name back to Chad Johnson, right? Because he made the bet publicly So I will refer to him for now on as Chad Johnson because he is Justin: The man he's still He's just gonna be announced at Chad Johnson. Well, that's right. Okay. He legally changed his I guess so he's just announced as Chad Johnson It's so funny he really is a character I kind of like him You know I do Jake: If I'm if I'm the Bengals and we'll see let's let's let's talk a little bit more next week But you know if I'm the Bengals fan And he's tweeting four hours before the game talking about buying stuff with his mama or whatever the hell or for his mama Or with his mama or whatever And then he goes in the game and he like, you know, he kind of tweaks his knee, warming up, and then he kind of like just lays an egg. And then, you know, he's tweeting afterward. I think at a certain point, and I think the Jets learned this in the first three or four games, or actually the fourth, four or fifth games, there's a time to talk and there's a time to shut the fuck up. And Ocho doesn't get it. When you lay an egg, you gotta shut the fuck up. You're in playoff mode now. And we'll see this week, we'll see how many millions of tweets he has this week about this and that and Reavis Island and all. It's not funny. It's funny to me because you lost. But if I'm a Bengals fan, put my hat in the Bengals. If it was Braylon Edwards and he was talking about that shit and he caught zero passes for zero yards, I'd be like, Shut up. Instead of tweeting, whatever time you're spending tweeting, I don't care if it's at 10 minutes a day or 3 hours a day. I want you in a frickin film study room or in the weight room or in the you know Rehab room or whatever the hell it is you should not be spending that much time with your social networking, you know
02 Jake: It's like any employee at a certain point say why aren't you focus on your job? Because tweeting isn't your job as far as I know he's not getting paid bonuses for you know amount tweets He has he's getting paid for as far as you know That's as far as you know. It is as far as I know. He might actually get it. So again, what a great game. It was a total destruction. It was, you know, every... And I will say this is one of the few games that I've watched as a jet. Everything went our way. Everything went our... You're a jet? Huh? Yes, as a jet. You were on the sidelines? As a jet fan. Justin: I was pretty sure I was sitting next to you way up at the top of the stadium. Jake: That's true, and the freezing cold. But as a Jets fan, it was everything went our way. When they got down and they were just about to score, just about to kick a field goal to put some points up, maybe get a little bit of momentum, they'd get sacked or they'd fumble a ball or they'd throw an interception. I mean, it was just the everything went the Jets way. That is not going to happen in the next game. I hope we win a little bit more, I mean, I hope we win and I think we will win, but yes, one of these just nothing can go against us. I think there was even a in there that, and I was way far up, but even a fumble up there that got called back or warranties, so we had everything go away. What a great game. You know, Mark Sanchez, eight for 16 for 63 yards, zero touchdowns, zeros interceptions, which is the most important. Brad Smith, really just, you know, took it to the house. He almost had that for a touchdown. They, Thomas Jones did okay. Sean Green did good. Even Danny Woodhead got some yardage in the end there. It's nice when Colin Clemens comes out waiting for him. Justin: I was waiting for him to come in. I thought that they would basically play the whole fourth quarter. like Uh, I mean I gotta, I barely even watching the game in the fourth quarter. Like it was just kinda like hanging out. Like people just rejoicing and being happy. Uh, I thought that they would sort of bring in those guys a little earlier, but whatever. They wanted to. You know, even down to Rex Chown, a spot in the fourth quarter of like already like 30-nothing, Jake: but you know. Yeah, I think it was right that we had it and why not? I mean, they did the right thing at the end. They we could have gone and kicked the field goal at the end or you know, decided, you know, we're going to let it go. But look at calendar comments numbers. Three attempts minus three yards. He likes really really No, sorry rushing. That was his rushing. Oh, cuz all right. He's gonna take a knee. That's right every time No, I took knees. Yeah, everybody had Rail and Edwards had a couple more drops don't like those Dustin Keller kind of disappeared. I hope he shows up more. Jay Feely on target, three for three.
00 Jake: And that win, that win was unbelievable. I swear it was lifting little children in the air. But in the end, you know, they pulled. It out 37-0. That's a shutdown, second shutdown the season, right? And we would have had the Tampa Bay shutdown if not for the Bart Scott penalty. So that's a real deal defense, you know? Justin: Yeah, very happy as someone on this podcast predicted way back younger We would have the number one defense in the league this year by week four. I believe that's around where it turned on I Jake: Think it was a little bit after that, but I'll give it to you full credit I did not believe that I had faith But I didn't believe that they would be able to do it and and because it's not easy to be creating the number one defense in the AFC East like and we didn't have a cake schedule. Justin: We had the personnel though. Had the personnel to put up there. Jake: You know, a lot of teams have that personnel. A lot of teams have personnel. I have to give it to- To put in the right system. Justin: It was a fit. It was a good fit. Jake: I have to give it to the coaches though. They took those, we've had personnel like that in the past and turned it into Zippo. So I give it to the coaching and really directs Ryan. He turned heat. he took those guys and turned them into a lean mean fight machine. So let's wrap up the last game of the season by giving me the nights and nights and give me a Justin: night and give me a play of the game. You got it. My night, the obvious. Fred Smith. Obvious. Yeah, too obvious. He got the play of the game last week and he's getting the player slash night of the game this week. Otherwise, I'm gonna pick Thomas Jones just for being a warrior moving the chains and scoring a couple touchdowns But I'll take Brad Smith anyway, and my play of the game is is actually gonna be Lowry's interception to end the first half just because it was like Total domination it was I think they got the ball like not no time left Maybe a minute or something and they were gonna try and go down the field and score and it was like oh no You're not picked and and we ended up scoring at a field goal at the end of the half there And it was just total domination and that was that play was like an indicator There you go. Jake: Now those are good. You know, I probably would have gone. It's tough one tough one with the you don't have, have to probably have gone somewhere. I'm going to give I'm going to give my night. I'm going to step out. I'm going to step out of the box. I'm going to give it to. Probably the guy gave it to the first game of the season. Maybe I probably gave it to a mark Sanchez first game of season. I'm gonna give it to the coach I'm gonna give it to Rexie sexy Rexie. Yeah You know, there's something about taking over a team and and all the ups and downs This was not a dominating team all year. We've had huge ups and downs He stuck with Mark Sanchez when even looked like nobody should He changed it up meaning he took over when he thought that it was you know Shot Nimer was putting too. Much out there
02 Jake: uh... you should never actually had some good uh... some good stuff uh... is it too much to give me key i i don't know what were they were they playing the base defense didn't care i don't know we'll see i'll give i play the game i'm really gonna play game i love that um... Trying to think when the actual timing of it was is when three receivers wide went in bunch for yeah You actually use you shut down you went look look look bunch formation down at the end It was down in our end the end zone and and it's just a quick pass and run it They just didn't the defense I was dead at the end of the second quarter Justin: Yep, the end of the second quarter with 37 seconds left and then we kicked it off and they tried to go down the field and we That was the interception. So our plays mingle with each other. Jake: I just really liked that. I thought it was at the right time. It was it was safe. You know, it was, you know, it's low, low probability gets picked off. It gave us a score and and really started to be sort of that put down score. There shouldn't be certain scores you get to and you can't. You're not going to get out of so. That was it. So good game. 37-0, Jets win and we're in the playoffs. So we got some stuff coming. We're in. We're in. And that's what the towel said. Freaking awesome. Yes, all seven of my towels. All right. So we said last week, I said I wanted to hear from you. your top three stadium moments. the Jets have been playing since Shea in the Meadowlands, not our stadium. It's always been the Giants Stadium. We call it the Meadowlands because we don't like the fact that it's the Giants Stadium. I've been a season-digger since 2004 so I've had the luck to go to many games although as we were mentioning during the game I've never been to a home playoff game. That's why I probably am more than happy, I'm more than happy to go on the road to a road playoff game because I haven't been to any home playoff games. But give me the three things. The stadium's done, although again, there is the off chance that if both the Baltimore Ravens and the Jets win the next two games, that the actual Jets would host the Baltimore Ravens in the middlelands. But let's not even discuss that. Don't blow it up yet. Don't blow it up yet. Yeah. Thank you. Keep it up. They were they were ripping the seats to the left of me. There were some guys It was actually one seat sit there that was funny the police I'm trying to I thought about taking it was like a seat that was still left and I went over to like grab it Awwww. Justin: It was like, no thanks. No, just the cops left it there because it was in a pile of puke. Jake: Oh yeah, it literally was. Now I'm in it, it wasn't really in it, but it was close enough that I was like, I'm not doing this. And I'm not going to try to hide it.
01 Jake: So give me your top three stadium moments. It doesn't have to be games you went to. It can be games that you run. You think you know my three, but... You you you have no idea so go ahead. I have no idea Justin: I'm gonna pick because I thought this was gonna be games that we were there time moments that sure at the stadium So that's what I work then fine Then go with what was your say and and one of them is? It's more sentimental, I can't even pinpoint the game or the year, it's somewhere in the 1988-91 timeframe uh when my father and I had season tickets and used to go to all the games together and I was just a young lad. And we would, I remember just going and instead of tailgating, we would go really early to beat traffic. And most people go really early, they tailgate. We wouldn't. It was my father and I and we would just go into the stadium. and we'd be like one of like you know a couple hundred people in the stadium and you'd look around there be no one there and i just remember doing that watching the punters and the kickers warm up and watching the wind and stuff and and always loving doing that and just eating uh like deli sandwiches sitting there watching guys warm up with my father and eating peanuts and throwing the shells over the thing on the of the 300 level that's that's one memory that's nice sentimental memory another game a game that I was at was the indie playoff game uh, recent playoff game which was amazing. I was at that one and I was at the one prior to that, the Jacksonville game, but the indie game was just great. It was, you said you can't remember a game that fell for the Jets. That was one of those games that fell. We kicked their ass-paint-mitting- Goodbye 41 nothing Ted Cottrell cooked up a scheme that threw Peyton Manning off at and it was Phenomenal and if I can remember correctly, I think Vinnie may have even kneeled on the final Play on that one and that was that was pretty cool and then my third one was actually just the other night last night that was really awesome uh i i i've been to playoff games but i can't recall being to a win and end game uh which is similar if not more exciting um it was just so fun to be there and it was cold and the jets were on fire and it was pretty awesome so I'll remember that forever as well being at the last game at the stadium Jake: those are my three. Nice. Nice you actually took of course one of mine which was last night which that's okay except I've been doing that last night. I'll give you my three. No no no I have three others
02 Jake: and you know you probably guessed one of them but you probably won't guess the other two So well you probably guessed two of the three so let's go top three Number one being the most important so let's go third one third one was the return of Vinnie return of Vinnie was Unbelievable that game remember it was I have years I should this is some things we should look up Four years ago Chad gets hurt uh... again or for the first time with no one there day dial-up vinnie office couch now we went to play the paper Justin: yes he got hurt you feel very lost in the same name was two thousand five same game Jake: so that we went with a ball to more ravens i think I think we were 0 and 5 and the Baltimore Ravens were 5 and 0. That's what the inkling is in my head. And Vinnie Tessa Verde came off the couch. Literally, I think he came. Maybe it was we had a bye, so he had like one week to get ready, but maybe not. He comes in and we won the game. That was the thing. We won the game. We beat the undefeated Baltimore Ravens with our... You know literally guy off the couch, you know, man. Justin: No, it was Tampa. It was Tampa. Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay. Was it Tampa? Tampa. It was Tampa. OK, but not important. It's OK. The point was when he 1412. Jake: When he came out, when he came out, right, because he didn't do a lot. Like he handed it off a lot and there were a couple of short passes. But when he came out, when Vinnie came out, out of the tunnel. And I just remember Goosebumps. I just remember Goosebumps. I was like, this is... Not that he's like one of my biggest favorite players, but there was something about it. Like your whole season feels like it's just crapped on and outcomes... Here he is back. And you know, someone who you kind of thought was never going to come back. And that just had an unbelievable feel. That was two, that was three. Two, clearly the Green Bay game. Another playoff win and in situation. Green Bay Packers, that was also the game where, and I always forget who needed to win over who, I know was in New England, I think the Dolphins needed to win over New England. If the Dolphins won over New England and we went over the you the Packers we were in and the Dolphins and Patriots were both out. So they actually canceled each other out and then we got in on that. And what does it remember weird and we're trying. Yeah, it's one of those, you know, Tyburger things and we were trying to, you know, we're trying to watch the game, but then you had to go into the game. So I remember sitting in the game just, you know, getting it was just getting going. It's in the first quarter. And just remember, they're trying to throw it up on the scoreboard, but they weren't putting it up enough. They weren't actually broadcasting it.
10 Jake: And they won, they came over the one o'clock game, and everybody just erupted. The whole stadium erupted. And we knew at that time if we win win this game, and of course that we just took it to a route, I was the only one who was surrounded by two Packer fans, friends of mine, one of which you know, and that was just awesome. And then, you know, they obviously the most... Most memorable of all probably middle-end games for any jet fan who's been to this game was the Monday Night Game and watching us play against it Jay Feely on the other side with Vinnie Testiverde and coming back in the third and fourth quarter fourth quarter and scoring all the touchdowns and then the jumbo eliot which they showed a million times last yesterday and then the uh... john hall kicked win the game overtime unlike it one o'clock in the morning something ridiculous and just telling my friend at the time who was the city older and i was not he wants to he want to go like a half time so let's get out of here is uh... whatever i might not want to go like I remember the Yankees were playing the playoffs next day and he didn't want to stay because he wanted to go watch the Yankees or stay up the next day for the Yankees. I said I want to stay I don't get to see a lot of games and we stayed and of course it was probably the most memorable game ever in the history of of Jets stadium. So that's it. So let's move on. Justin: You were in for that game. You were in your seats right. They weren't yours. Yes. time but you were in those seats. So was the only game that I wasn't touched at was that in that end zone down there or was it on the outside? Jake: Nope far end zone far end zone Yeah, yeah, I didn't get to see it. It was you know, it was way the far over there And so was the kick the John Hall kick. I think was over there to you suck You know, I could throw on the list, you know far the five six touchdown game that game was with some a Justin: There's just a couple other I erased and I erased far from my Jets memory by the way Jake: Hey far killed far killed man. Genie man. G far killed man. Genie goddess Rex Ryan and and Sanchez I'm and we're I'm happy Alright, so let's talk about how did our picks go last week? How did you do buddy? That's why it's expletive. Yeah, I killed you. Justin: I went 13 and 3 last week. Jake: I went 10 and 6 so not great. Clearly messed up on some of them but okay yeah. 13 and 3. That's pretty good. I won. Justin: I think I won. We're going to go three up on you with how many more weeks? Jake: 4 more weeks. Justin: Alright, well. Jake: You're in trouble. Justin: You're in trouble, man. Jake: Alright, so let's, since the season's over, let's go back and look at what we said at
01 Jake: the beginning of the season. So here, so what did you, actually I have it right here. So you predicted, or I predicted the Patriots would go... 13 and 3. The Patriots win 10 and six. Wow. Off, off a little bit there. I believe the Jets would, a prospective eight and eight, and they went nine and seven. So I think I was pretty close on that. You predicted that the Patriots to go 12, 12 and four. Wow, so you're even off. So then you. uh you predict why is that further than you wait wait wait wait wait slow down can i put i predicted 13 3 i predicted 13 yeah i predicted 12 and 4 you predicted 12 and 4 they went 10 and 6 so who's closer oh yeah you're right you're right say it again you're right you're closer you're closer say you're right again all right you're right uh jets we split because we Justin: Dolphins. You went five and although although wait, I think I think I should get that one because I thought they would be better than And and you thought they would only go eight and eight and no and I went seven and nine Jake: They went seven and nine and I picked eight and eight so I was only one off on that you were three off Wait on which one? Um, which one was that three? You were two off on miami. Oh, okay Because they went 79, I said 8 and 8. And the Bills, you went 4 and 12, stupidly, and I picked it exactly, I picked Buffalo 6 and 10. So I get that, I get the Dolphins, we split on the Jets, and you get the Patriots. The winner is... Justin: Jake by landslide. I should get the jet one. I think I should get the jets one. I'll tell you why. No, why? Because I thought you went over the prices right and you thought they'd be worse. And, and I mean, anyone who believes that they should be better. No prices, right? Rules don't bring that Jake: into support. Thinking. Spryces right rules you went over prices wrong over bitch bitch No, no, no, no, no, you're you're wrong. You're glad to be wrong. I'm not in that Let's get always with that. I All right, let's get there. We're gonna. I just want to pull up a little Little funny stat because this is how I predicted that the Buffalo Bills would go six and ten because Looking at the last history have they got six and ten the last like easy years No, it's 79 every year, but it's like 2005. They're five and eleven 2006 79 2007 79 2008 79 Sierra's six and 10 Justin: They are really bad. They have not made it back since the Music City Miracle. That was 10 years ago. It knocked them completely out. That was their last good season. And Ralph Wilson actually tore the hearts out of that team by sitting Doug Flutie in the last game because they didn't need it. And Brad Johnson, or whatever his name was...
06 Justin: Can't even remember is that Rob Johnson played well and they played him in the playoffs after going 11 and 5 with Flutey all year And they deservedly lost because it was they were cursed the um Jake: the They haven't won a game in the playoffs since 1995 That's getting that's getting a little late All right, the Jets are 10 and 6 the Jets are 10 and 6 and we get to and we know who's in the playoffs Justin: They're 9 and 7 you have a playoff. Sorry 9 and 7. That's okay, man Jake: You're really often we know who's in the playoffs Monday It's Monday and and I've had no sleep and I was up till 1 o'clock in the morning But those are my excuses. So we got we know who's in the playoffs. So in the AFC, we got the Colts is number one Charges number two they'll both take a rest Then we have the Patriots are gonna take on the Baltimore Ravens and we have the Jets We're gonna go to Cincinnati take on the Bengals in the NFC the the freakin Eagles lost to the Cowboys and lost their chance they got shut up by the Cowboys so lost a chance for the two seed so Justin: Yes, they did. They wanted to take in the two seated. No,, and Minnesota won. one early stop. Minnesota is one at one o'clock. They had it. It was over done. Jake: They had a chance if it sort of lost. They had a chance. Justin: They had a chance to have a home field, but they lost that. I mean, that was the flip, which the Cowboys, they would. Jake: So it's Saints Eagles. Cowboys, no Cardinals. No, you got it all wrong. No, no, no, it's Justin: minute. It's Saints, Minnesota, right? And then you have Minnesota, Dallas, right, Arizona, Green Bay, Philadelphia, Philadelphia. Jake: And this week, that's the adults. He has. Justin: You got to a excuse us folks. We really don't know the NFC that well. We can read. Jake: We can read any we go to any website read up on it. So this is Vikings and Vikings and Saints. We're going to do a pics Vikings and Saints sit and we have Dallas stays in Dallas and has Eagles play them right again. And I think the Cardinals. Now go back home and the Green Bay Packers go to play them. That correct? Justin: It's another repeat. There's three repeat. That is correct. This week of last three repeat games. All of all of the games this past week were blowouts. Let's hope they happen the same exact. Jake: All right, so let's talk about we're leave the just the last. I want I-. I want your picks. I want your reasons why and I want some scores. All right, so we'll skip over the first the school the first game which is the Jets game. It's 430 on Saturday
00 Jake: Let's go right to the Philadelphia game. It's 830. I think Justin: I think this game gets flipped. Philly's gonna beat Dallas in this one. Dallas' old December woes are gonna come back and I think Andy Reid is the ultimate and he is a good guy at like losing purpose losing on purpose to win the next week sort of deal like I'll take this one, get shut out, show them absolutely nothing, or maybe show them some stuff that I want them to see. And do nothing on defense to stop them, let them do whatever they want. I think Philly is better than Dallas, so I think they win 30-24. Jake: 30 to 24. You know, I agree. I do think Philly's a better team. I don't know what happened. It just looks like no game showed up or no one showed up. I agree. I think Philly flips it. I think they're too good of a team not to flip this around and win and take out the Cowboys and I'll give it up. I'll give it a close. I'll give it a 31-30. I think it'll be a lot of scoring back and forth, but we're close. Then we have the Baltimore, this is the Sunday game, Baltimore Ravens. Off a win against Oakland. Okay. Going into New England. Now New England suffered huge loss. West Walker out for, on the wildcard or the playoffs with a big injury and In fact, they I think they're saying that that Brady might have broken his finger, too Justin: He has and he's got his finger. He's got his ribs. He's got his finger and No, Welker and for this reason I'm picking Baltimore Yeah, it's not even just that reason I think Baltimore matches up well against New England New England doesn't have a very good defense and Baltimore has a decent enough offense to be able to run on New England. I think it's going to be one of those types of games. It's going to be low scoring. New England's going to be, you know, relying a lot on the on the run, which is not quite the way that they've been playing the last bunch of years. And I think the final score is going to be 14-13 Baltimore over New England. Get out of the playoffs, Belichick. Get out of the playoffs Brady. Goodbye. Wow. I agree. I think they're a little bit higher. I picked Baltimore and the Superball, so I gotta stick with them. Well, you picked uh, didn't you pick the Falcons? My Falcons. My 9 and 7 Falcons. Yeah. Jake: So how did your Falcons... Okay, so you picked Falcons, Baltimore? Okay. I'm looking to get half of it. Yeah, how's that going for you?
00 Jake: I'm looking to get half unless the Jets get there. I'm worried about that. I agree. I think Welker is that team. Not more than Tom Brady, but close. Yes, the Patriots don't lose at home in the opening. playoffs but welker as we saw we played them welcome is the difference uh... he's the he's the escape at cheese the the third down guy uh... without him just don't see it happen i think baltimore's gonna play unbelievable defense but i think it'll be higher i think their defense will start to score mccall twenty eight to twenty uh... doing green bay I didn't think we would agree on that. But, uh, okay. Green Bay in green place. Been playing some really good ball lately. Uh, Arizona kind of laid an egg, but they didn't have the starters in Kurt Warner sat there going back home, which interesting cause Arizona has been playing better on the road than they have at home. Um, and basically a rematch. Justin: Uh, what do you think Arizona is going to take this one? I think that their defense is going to come to play this week as opposed to what they did the previous week in the playoffs. They're going to come to play. They're going to have their Hall of Fame quarterback, Kurt Warner, as opposed to Matt who seems to be really awful. You know, I think Arizona has a little bit of an experience factor coming off of last year's run over Green Bay, who this team, this Green Bay team, led by Aaron Rodgers, has never really had that kind of run. I mean, I know that with F.A.R.V.E. two or three years ago, they went to the NFC Championship game, but... It's a different cast of characters, it's a different quarterback which makes it a different team. So I'm going to pick Arizona squeaking by 27-24 over Green Bay. Jake: Yeah, I'll go the opposite way. I think Green Bay's got a, at least they've got a... Destiny to get to Minnesota Because that the gods of football want to see that happen in the playoffs the The Packers against the Vikings in the playoffs they want to see it happen I don't know what the scenario is to get it there, but they want to see it happen Justin: So I think the gods the referees the referees are gonna make that happen. Is that what you're gonna say? Jake: I think Green Bay is a better team. Arizona is just really inconsistent. I mean, Green Bay is inconsistent, too. I mean, the Green Bay Packers, I think, lost to Tampa Bay and something. It was someone like that. Yeah, they did lose to Tampa Bay. But they've played much better since. And I think their defense is coming along. I like them on the road. I think I like them on the road. I think it'll be high scoring. I think this will be kind of back and forth. Aaron Rodgers versus Kurt Warner. I think the young dog will pick it out.
02 Jake: think what Kurt Warner is if he starts throwing picks he kind of reminds me of Sanchez that way if he starts throwing picks he just finishes throwing picks like he just will just get into that streak where to be like oh there's one there's two there's three and if he starts fumbling or getting stripped like it just starts to happen to him and I think that the defense will tee off on that and I think it'll be uh I'm calling it 34-32 Green Bay really uh high scoring Then we have the game of the week of the century of the year The rematch hopefully the starters for the you know, Otrasink was actually going in for an MRI today to see what's wrong with his knee You know, we had David Harris actually take a hit. He was back on the sidelines I don't think it's anything too serious, but we'll find out about that a short week to get ready, but As I said to many people or anybody listen, you know, I think the Cincinnati Bengals wanted to play this team again because because you get to play for the same you get to play against the same team. And so you can game plan for the same person. You can get like a little preview of what they're going to do. My guess is if I had to like throw it out there, my guess is our game plans can be a hunt. Besides the defense was the defensive game plans just you're going to switch it up. But my guess is they're going to do. everything different. I think they're going to, you know, not so much tricks with not Justin: too much tricks with that wildcat or the seminal that that's not going to work again, I don't think. Yeah, I doubt it doesn't. It doesn't look like two weeks in a row against the same. Like you can even tell like when we played the Dolphins the second time, it didn't work. So I don't think those types of things work back to back. Jake: but I think you'll see not not be still be under 20 but you know I'm hoping those do you want to drop this time and we'll get there plus I think there's two things you want to take and they don't you know one of these football expressions that I'm sure is a big book of somewhere if not I'm gonna write it called You know, what do you want in the play? What's good for the road, right? What packs well? Well, defense, a good defense packs well. And a good running game packs well. You know, you can take it on the road with you. And if I want to go on the road, I want a really good defense and a really good running game. Those two is a good combination. It's time of possession, and it's keeping Carson Palmer off the field. Not to say that he even showed anything, JT Sullivan actually did did better in terms of stats. Justin: Like what? Completed like two passes? Yeah. JT Sullivan had like three... delay game penalties in a row. Like, he was like, so shaken.
02 Jake: The fans were outrageous. So, yeah, so this will not be that game. They will not have the R K. They will not have this huge momentum thing of the last game. They will not have this win in stuff. They will be on the road in a very loud stadium in the cold. It'll be just as cold, if not colder. And it won't be as windy, but it'll be really cold. So give me a score before I give you some thoughts. Justin: Jets win. Jets win. For all the reasons you said. They have the formula. The defense and the running game is what wins these types of games. And if you close... and you don't do anything stupid and that's the big asterisk. If you don't do anything stupid Sanchez can't, it really is on him. It's sad but it's like as Sanchez goes the Jets go. If he doesn't turn the ball over then we have a really good chance of winning the game. As a matter of fact we have a really really good chance of winning the game. As a matter of fact I don't think we've lost the game that he hasn't turned the ball over in. So... So when he doesn't turn the ball over, we win. And that's what we want. We want to see another one of these games where maybe we run the ball 40-50 times and Sanchez has 10 to 20 attempts. And I think you'll know that we won the game if that's what you see at the end. Jake: So final score, 2010. J-E-T-S, J-E-S, J-E-S, J-E-S. Ooh. I'm going to go 24-17. I think it's going to be hard to lock down Palmer like that. I think he'll do something. If they're scoring more, then obviously we don't usually score a lot. 37 is a lot for the Jets. I think that might be our second highest other than... the game against Raiders which is a one-sided JV affair. So yeah I'm going to call it 24-17 so we have one disagreement, eh? Just Green Bay in Arizona otherwise we're straight up. Justin: And it's the last game of the weekend so we'll have to wait. We'll have to wait till the last game of the weekend to see who takes this. Jake: All right, so I'll tell you about a little segment I am going I got back last night and something at The segment is, just like I did. I didn't think about it when I was doing it to Toronto, but I'm going to do it more consistently going to... So I'm going to do, when I was going to Toronto, I think I did it, what did I call it? Tweeting to Toronto or tweeting to Canada or something. So I'm going to do Tweeting to Cincy. I'm going to tweet my way to Cincy as I go out there on Friday and Saturday. I'm going to throw up tweets on Twitter.com, Twitter.com slash Jet Kingdom. So if you want to follow along and see what's going on, I will be heading out there in the
02 Jake: cold to see this game. Because again, I've never seen a home playoff game. I went to the New England playoff game. So that's going to be fun. The segment is called Tweeting to Cincy for the Win. But we have some tweets. We have some tweets from the... from the field asking us some questions. So we got two today, one from Dawn Hall asking how far do you guys feel? We can go to the playoffs. So let's just first of all, throw out that we're not very superstitious, but we're extremely superstitious and we're not answering this only what we actually think is going to happen. We're going to ask it just because you're asking it. So we're not like, you know, I don't want to do one of those. We psych ourselves out. But so Justin, what do you think? How far do you think we can go into the playoffs? Super Bowl next. Yeah, nice, nice answer. I, to be honest, it I would love to see. I think we have a good shot of beating since I after seeing that game, I think we have a good shot. I think what happens next is we had to send to India, Indianapolis. Depends what happens with Baltimore. Depends what happens with Baltimore. We could head to San Diego. I think if Baltimore wins. OK, so let's look at those two games. Indianapolis versus San Diego. I think we have a better shot at Indianapolis. I know that's crazy talk. I know what it's like. Because what has Peyton Manning struggled with in the playoffs? He struggled with going up against a really good defense, right? It's the Steelers. It's when the Patriots have beat them. They usually beat them with a very good defense Justin: That's what he's rather play him later. I'd rather play him later in the playoffs later in the playoffs like Really? Yeah, like I would want to catch rusty. No, I feel like they come out like a rusty game Like I feel like they come out and just Like kill it in that first game, and then they slow down after that. I don't know why Jake: Also, we have not had well. We get that one win against didn't have that win against San Diego Justin: Yeah, I don't know whatever I don't know I think that's the answer next question Jake: Alright, thanks Don. I honestly think we have a shot, I think we have a better shot against the Colts. I think Sandi will present to more of you. Let's speed since the adi. Let's speed since the adi. We'll talk about it next week. Hopefully we have a lot to talk about. And then from, I think our friend from Israel is asking, Omri Petaru, which I'm destroying yours, he says... So they got another question for you this week. This is like a true fan now. What do you think about our chances of making a Super Bowl run in the next few years? Justin: I'm looking at this here. Jake: Yeah. Justin: No, it's a good chance. They have a really good young team. They have a good young... Coach with the good philosophy that obviously he has already instilled in in the team
04 Justin: They already are his team, which is great It's not a Josh McDaniel situation in Denver, which is awful We have a rookie quarterback who? Quarterback does to the playoffs in his rookie season, which is a good sign Really good young defense young pretty young team fairly young team really good offensive line I think I think they're poised to make a run if not you know this year then Jake: within the next few yeah it's so it's so hard because as you can see even the teams that like got shut out this year started off so strong really making the playoffs is is such a crap shoot in some ways You know are we gonna see a setback from Sanchez next year or was this his setback year? I Don't know. I think I'd always love to believe we have a shot I love that we're kind of building on something that is there's some strength. We got questions always But yeah, let's look let's deal with this year. There's there's a shot of it going for the next couple years But you know, you know really quarterbacks rookie quarterbacks don't become good for three to four years. So, you know, already looking at three to four years before, you know, to keep a good team around him that we can have a shot. And just like any team, if you get to the playoffs, that's the first thing. So let's get to the playoffs every year. And let's start building on a consistently good team, not this up and down team. Although this is the first time, I think, in many, many years as a jet, I can actually go pull this up. that we have actually done two winning seasons back to back? Don't we usually do like the four and 12, nine and six, four and 12, six and four and 12? Justin: Yeah, we haven't had a couple of we haven't had a consistent back to back. I think since herm, his harm did get us to the playoffs a couple of years in a row. That is true. Man, Jeannie had it let up like I think I mean guys to the playoffs, but then down and then a fall apart year So Yeah, it's good to I mean, hopefully it'll carry over to next year with a little continuity And hopefully the schedule won't be too bad Jake: for next year. Yeah, we had that up and down. You know, start since Kotai, which is sort of the the, you know, the one in 15 at Kotai, what do we had three years of Parcells where he went nine and seven, 12 and 48 and eight and Grove basically took over his team and went nine and seven. Then Edwards, some people took over Parcells was team two that the players were still there. He went 10 and seven. 10 and 6, 9 and 7, 6 and 10, then 10 and 6. So that was actually a good stretch, right?
00 Jake: I think he went 3-0 something year. Then 4 and 12. Then it starts as up and down. And then we went 4 and 12, 10 and 6, 4 and 12. Well, this is all quarterbacking. Justin: This is all quarterbacking, if you think about it. Because like, as the quarterback goes, was. The team went because he had a healthy Chad and not so healthy Chad. A healthy Chad. Jake: Well, again, Bollinger was the four and 12 season. Brooks Bollinger. Then we went four and four and twelve. The nine and seven and ninety seven. Justin: Forty eight year old. That's that's what's important. Jake: You're talking about Atlanta like Atlanta, who hasn't had, you know, two winnings or just had two. winning seasons in a row and Houston who is trying to make their first playoffs. So as much as we get down ourselves as jet fans, we've put together, we seem to go in these cycles of every like three years we'd be able to make the playoffs. I'd like to keep those cycles less. So it's almost every year you can get there, but we're getting there. So got a big game this week. I hope for all of you that are going out there, maybe I'm probably going to go to the tailgate Joe tailgate so he's a big jet band shows up to some of the games and I think that's gonna wrap it up but again if you want to follow us the jet Kingdom podcast or just jet Kingdom go to jet Kingdom calm you can become a fan of the of jet Kingdom on Facebook you can also follow both of us on Twitter actually Justin's Twitter feed is now attached to jet Kingdom on the side I'm gonna add mine soon But if you want to follow either one of us, it's twitter.com slash Jet Kingdom or twitter.com slash just Jet Kingdom. That's Justin's. And then we really appreciate all the iTunes review actually since we had our last podcast. Not only was last podcast our probably one of our most popular podcasts ever, but it also got a lot of reviews. So I think we got two or maybe three in the last week on iTunes. Keep it up guys. Guys are awesome. Yes. It's freaking sweet. Yeah, we love it. Thank you. We definitely love it. It's a great way to listen to the podcast because it just comes down. We publish it. 57:14 Jake: you
