03 Jake: This is episode 68 of the Chet Kingdom Podcast for Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010, Free Agent Friday. Justin: of the women. Jake: Welcome to Jet Kingdom Podcast. As always, on this side of the take a little break off from podcasting digital aisle, it's Jake. week and joining me from the raring to go but just got home. digital is my good friend Justin how you doing Justin? Wow what a welcome thank you what an intro I'm doing fine thank you thank you very much I'm happy to be back so we um for all you who've been uh chomping at the bit sorry but tons of them everybody's been chomping everybody's got to take a little break and and it is my favorite time of the year uh to take a little break from the uh take a little break from football but breaks over ding ding ding ding because Free agency starts on Friday, so we've got lots to discuss there's been There's lots of news in the NFL But we're gonna discuss the jet news because there's some big stuff happening, so I'll give a throw out a little agenda We're gonna talk about basically Let's I guess our we'll talk about our entire most of our running We're going to talk about Leon and Thomas Jones and what could happen to them. There's some news that just popped in about that. We're going to talk about other people who are too intendered. And then we're going to go through the free agency list and we're going to play a game of stay or go. Whether you personally want them to stay or go. And then our good friend Eman, who's a very big Twitter fan and very popular in the Twitterverse, actually posted a question to us that he posted on his blog but asked us to answer it. So I thought it was a good one, which is he has five sort of rumors for the off season. in. Which one of them will come true? And so what we're gonna do to make it even more fun is we're gonna pick from most likely to least likely the five rumors and That's it. We'll wrap it up on that. I think that'll give us some time. So let's kick it off with Really the big news that just came out about an hour ago or two hours ago That lightning Leon although with a broken foot or broken leg, recovering, lightning, Leon, got tendered for a second round. That means that, well, actually, let me back up.
03 Jake: Do you know the new free agency rules for this year because of the uncapped year? Take that as a no. So I will tell you what I know, and then we'll We'll see if that if that is true or not true. Here's what I know, or here's what I think I know, besides my phone ringing. That was Tannenbaum giving me a call. Let me know. Here's what I know. That the final eight and final four, so the four teams, and the final eight teams, and the final four teams. . . . . actually have more restrictions on them than usual, or have restrictions on them. And it was meant to be, again, it's supposed to be this thing that's to stop everybody from not letting this, from letting this cap year go out. So they wanted to put in all these kind of poison pills, but since no one is talking about it, and no one, they're not gonna sign another agreement, so it's gonna go into uncapped year. Basically the, the final four, which the Jets were a part of, cannot go into free agency and pick up anybody unless someone leaves their team from free agency. So it's kind of a tit for tat scenario. So that kind of leaves a little bit of a hands tied. There's more to it than that, isn't there? There are also some money deals and. Thank you. But it has to be equal size. That's what I mean, like the guy who leaves. We have to lose somebody to sign somebody, but whoever leaves, we can only then sign somebody for the amount of money that that person was making or signs for one of the two. I think it's signs four. Meaning you put a tender on somebody, someone takes him. then you could sign someone of that value that they took him for. Let me just say I don't like this. And again, this was not supposed to happen. This was supposed to be this. All these things leading up to this uncapped year were supposed to be poison pills, right? Things in an agreement, in a lawyerly agreement, that you would hit. And every time you hit them, it would be so painful you'd be like, oh, we're not going to do that. Let's get a new agreement done. Well, clearly that didn't work. So... Nice job, lawyers. Yeah, really, just in general. So here's the situation that I think we should put a spin on, which is that before we get to actually how they're tendered, who's tendered, in some ways, if you're Mike Tannenbach. Now we can trade. Trading is still allowed. Trading is not part of the free agency thing. Trading doesn't happen that often outside of just like. Draft day. So yeah, there are trades that have them before, but it's less. Here's the thing. You're Mike Tannenbaum. You're very, very smart. We like you. I'm Mike Tannenbaum. I am very smart. Thank you. You're smart. In some ways, you want to put up enough players via free agency. And remember, the people who were supposed to go into free agency didn't go into free agency or are supposed to be unrestricted or now restricted because of the Thank you. cap it went from four years to six years but anyway you want to put up some players that you kind of want to be picked up because if they get picked up you get to go out and get
07 Jake: someone else right so it's a little bit like cat and mouse now i don't know if anybody thinks that way maybe that's just my non-lawry mind but in some ways there might be something to that if it's brilliant that's the idea of why the jets signed that kicker Exactly, which is that we have a whole bunch of people that could be picked up and if they are we want to have a backup for them and we might not want to go pick out that same person, we might want to go pick out someone else. So let's go, let's talk about the two big ones. So Leon is a, actually let's not talk about it, let's talk about Thomas Jones. So Thomas Jones is going to be released. turned into a unrestricted free agent, meaning no tender for him. And there's some, how about boo? I had a friend of ours, a friend of the family come to me, RB if you will, and printed out the article because he doesn't like to send me emails. And he prints out the article, he brings it to me, and he's like, what do you think? We started talking about it today. So what are your thoughts on Thomas Jones being released and what that does to this team for next year? I have absolutely no problem with Thomas Jones being released. Absolutely no issue with it. 32 year old running back. I think the Jets had held on to Curtis Martin for one year too long. And, you know, possibly learning from past history or, you know, he had a deceptively good year. He had 1,400 yards, but he had like one or two games where he just busted it open. Like I think the Bills game, for example, he had like 200 yards in that game. He had like an 80 yard run in that game. Those are things that aren't going to happen. Uh, statistically when you look at like, uh, you know, these running backs that play for as long as Thomas Jones has played or have had as many carries as he's had after you hit a certain point. uh or a certain amount of carries your yards per carry go way way down and he's hit that point uh and and what makes you think that he's gonna be any better than some of the greatest football players to ever play um you know guys like Walter Payton or Emmet Smith or or Curtis Martin or Jerome Bettis or any of these guys he's he's not better than any of those guys he's he's Thomas Jones He's reliable. He's been good, not great for the Jets, I would say. His first year or two were a little disappointing. He had a very good year last year, but there were three Pro Bowl offensive linemen in front of him. And if he asked any Jet Fan who they'd rather see on the field in the second half of that Colts game, it was Sean Green, not Thomas Jones. So I have no problem letting Thomas Jones go. thank you you had a nice run with the Jets but we have the young offensive line we got the young quarterback we got the young running back uh and and you know with Leon being a little bit of a
03 Jake: question mark but Sean Green we we certainly had the the foresight to say hey let's pick Sean Green last year groom him get him up to speed. He had a pretty good year. He had, you know, five yards per carry. He was the horse in the playoffs. So I have absolutely no problem with it. Um, you know, he wasn't a lifelong jet. So I really don't even honestly, I don't even care. You know, I, I, uh, I agree with you. I'll put a little bit devil's advocate. One is You could argue that the reason Sean Green did so well in those second half and had this big bus open was because of Thomas Jones being the hell out of those defensive lines for a while. You could argue that A. B, he was a very good leader. His locker room presence, apparently, to the reports, was very big so that there's going to be a loss there. Well listen, I was in the locker room and I don't think it was that big a deal. It was a pretty big deal. But here's, but here's, and so there's all sorts of talk of team chemistry and this team got to the AFC Championship and don't want to mess with chemistry. So then this is this conversation we had. Then I will kind of repeat what I said to him since... No one was recording me. Although that might be kind of interesting to some people who will record me all the time. I think it would be. And these are conversations that you and I used to have during the days, but now it's good because we can have them at night and not have them during the days. Couple things. One is the minute Sean Green was signed, I knew Thomas Jones was gone. that was back in you know april last year so like for me it hasn't been about whether he stays with it now he's gone if he had fifteen hundred yards in two thousand yards i thought he was gone it was clear that chong is being brought in to replace him and that you know uh... if we kept we watch in which looks like we will talk about that um... you know that was the one to punch that we wanted and that really it wasn't you know Tom Jones was not the long-term answer turning 32 in August owed a bunch of money so I think I I'm not really that big it's not that big of a deal. I don't even think the money has anything to do with it to be honest. It doesn't. I just think that because if you watched the Jets this past season you know he slowed down towards the end of the year he did not play the same as he played in the beginning of the year and that's just going to continue to keep happening, it's just going to accelerate with age. So, you know, the one-two punch of Jones Green is, you know what, I'll take Green, Washington. Right. You know? And chemistry-wise, this is what, you know, I sort of talk about. The chemistry is going to change because last year we had two rookies, you know, sort of two rookies who were starters and who kind of like made a big difference in the games, you know, Sanchez and Green, and those guys aren't going to be rookies anymore. And Sanchez is going to take a more of a leader role. So in some ways, you want the chemistry to change a little bit because you want Sanchez to take a little bit more on his shoulders.
01 Jake: And so if there are big leaders in the locker room, you kind of want... them to go away. I want Sean Green and Mark Sanchez to be the leaders going forward. It puts a space out there. It puts a space that we can fill with something else. I think that's good. It leads a space for leadership, which is good. But as a jet fan, I didn't see him coming back. So it's like I knew when they didn't sign up for a long-term agreement, when they gave him a one year for $900,000, that I knew he was not sticking around. So to me, it's not a big deal. It's kind of the inevitable. So let's talk about some of the quick hits. Let's start with Leon Washington, and then I'll go through, because it could take forever we do that, but let's start with Leon Washington being tendered for a second round. around. What do you think? Should have been higher? Should have been lower? Just right? What do you think? What is... So can you in three seconds or less tell me what does tendered mean? Does that mean if someone else signs him that we get compensated with the second round pick? Is that how that works? It's tendered for a price. So basically, you know, and that's, this is, you're putting me on the spot, making me look a little... I kinda am! I mean, I'm looking at this article, so... you know apparently we have an offer out there for one year 1.75 million dollars which gives us the first right of refusal. Right meaning if someone else comes in and says okay I'm gonna pay him this this and this we can say uh we'll I think we have seven days. Oh I get it so a team can offer him if we decline to match the offer then we get a second round pick. Yes. We have first rider refusal, meaning we've already offered you this. Yes. If you get a team to come around, we can match it or say goodbye and get a second round pick for it. Right. That's fine. That seems great. I want Leon back anyway. Right, but so one argument would say that's not high enough and that someone's going to pick him off. Oh, not high enough? No, that's not true. Could have put a first round picker. A guy coming, no. Not worth the first round pick. I mean, coming off of a leg injury. He's not even a first round pick talent anyway. You could pick a running back in the first round this year. There's a bunch of them and, you know, running backs to me are like a diamond dozen, they last like three or four years. They're not quarterbacks that you're investing 10 years or more in. You know, those are first round picks. Not running backs to me. I mean, look at these running backs. We've Washington is a fourth round pick. Sean Green's a third round pick. You don't need to have a first round pick for Leon Washington. I don't think anyone would jump at that. And I think coming off a leg injury, more than a million dollars is rather generous. Come on, that's pretty decent. He knows we want him back and I think he should come back and test it for a year and then we'll... See where we go from there. Yeah, I can't say there's gonna be a lot of hot offers out there for him. I'd be surprised because he's never a starter anyway.
01 Jake: Right, he was not the starter starting running back. He was always the off, you know, the ground and pound or whatever. David Meghan, he was the third down back special team player. Great speed. Yeah. Breakout ability. But and yes, you're right. If he had not been hurt and you put a second round it, he might have been picked up. But he was never going to be picked up first round straight up. And he was never going to be picked up first round for especially hurt. I think it's just right. Again, I think it's just right in the. Thanks for watching! I want him back, let's just get that clear. I want him to be back. We both agree that he's definitely belonged to us. We also need picks. We're not rich with picks this year, so if there were some places we could make some picks and don't know a few here or there, I'm okay with that. Now let's talk about another one. Brad Smith was also placed on a second round. So here's another guy like Kind of interesting, right? Again, not a starter, not a really game breaker, but had a couple huge games in the end of the season playoffs that kind of showed that he could do some stuff, but he's not really a trick. He's not really anything, right? He's not the running back, although sometimes we've played him as running back. He's not the quarterback, although he plays the wildcat well. He's not a great receiver because he's never really busted out of that spot and done anything that we thought, oh wow, he's a great receiver. So Brad Smith, interesting. I like, again, I think that that's right where it needs to be. I think he might be a little high. Well, he's a... He's a... You know... I'm stealing this term from other sports writers like a glue guy. He's a guy that does a lot of everything. He plays really good special teams. Offense and defense. So he can return and he can tackle. He can run a wildcat for you. He can run a trick play for you. He can line up as a wide receiver and make somebody cover him. I mean he's not great at it but... He can line up in the backfield to make you respect that he might run the ball. He can throw the ball. We saw him do it. So, you know, I don't think that that second round tender thing is like if a team signs and they give us their second rounder, I think it's just we get a second round pick at the end of the second round, right? Like, that's how it works. No, I think you have to take their second rounder. I don't think that's how it works. Well then, who knows? We don't know. Sorry, we're very uninformed. We should know better. We should know better, you're right. We know the X's and O's, not the... Listen, I know there's X out, Swift, Z right, 24. Oh, I love that play. It's a good play. It's for Brad Smith. And I think who could or could not get a second rounder? He's another guy that I think we should we should definitely welcome back, try and sign. And I think that that's a generous offer for a guy who's sort of a jack of all trades.
03 Jake: special team type of player. So I think that that's fine. Okay, might be a little high, but you know, so I'm back. So let's play a little bit now. Let's play a game called Stair go. Okay. And I kind of want a quick hit. So these are guys who are unrestricted free agents. Right. And again, Maybe not huge players, but you might even recognize them, but whatever. I'm going to throw them out there. These are unrestricted, then we're going to go restricted. Some of these are restricted because of this uncapped year. Whether you want them back, I want whether you want them back and whether they will be back, which I pretty much assume that you think will be the same thing. I had a little bit of thought about them. He's unrestricted, right? Unrestricted. Um, I think that he could, uh, he could go. Um, I'd like him back, because I think that, you know, he's sort of like a guy that doesn't really get a whole lot of notoriety, but the fact that the running defense was as good as it was without Chris Jenkins, I think he had a lot to do with it. But again, I think if we could get a defensive end who can rush the passer as opposed to stop the run, that would be ideal. So I think he's going to go. He's gone. And you want him to go? You know. If I could, if we could get him back real cheap and say and get a and have him just be a backup then I would say No, I don't want him to go But if he comes back I have the feeling he'll be the starting defensive end and we didn't get the production That we necessarily needed from that spot. So I would say Not if he's bring brought back as a starter So you think he's, you don't want, boy you're really good at this game. Yeah I'm terrible, no I don't want him back. Goodbye Marcus Douglas. You don't want him back and you don't think he'll be back. Right. Alright. You're wrong twice over, we do want him back and he will be back. Jay Feely. As sad as this is to say, I think you gotta let him go. You know, kickers are whatever, and if he's gonna... If he's one of those unrestricted free agents that gets to go and then we get to spend money because he's gone, a kicker, goodbye. Sorry, I know he's like a fan favorite and I love him too but he's just a kicker, you know? Nope, you're wrong again. Uh, we won him back. Wrong again, I thought this was an opinion game. No. No! He, uh, we want him back, he will be back, although we've already backed it up with this other guy, Nick Falk. Ryan Fowler, inside linebacker. Uh, don't care. Ben Hartstock.
02 Jake: Hartstock. Sam, he can go as well. Uh, Larry is a... So is he a tight end? Ben Hardstock? Yeah, whatever, he could go. Larry is what I'd like back. You want those special team guys, but I think he was sort of hurt towards the end of the season, so he might retire or something. Tony Richardson? Old, but really good blocker. Key to a lot of the good running. So if he's. Not gonna retire. I'd like him back. Yeah, he's not going anywhere. He'll be back as a jet And we want him back restricted free agents. All right, okay guys are These guys are tendered Okay, if I actually know what they are tender Quarterback marks it now just kidding correct Ellen Clemens He could go. He of course. No reason to keep him around. He's not winning any games as a backup anyway, and he's not doing Sanchez. That Buffalo game alone alone. He came on the field. I'm like, all right, let's see if this guy's, oh my god, what the hell is he doing? cornerback Drew Coleman. Gone. Yeah, I think he's gone. That's it. Thanks a lot for watching. Thanks for watching. See you next time. uh... wide receiver bralen edwards i think it's been a couple minutes on him cities actually yeah i i think we'll keep brown edwards i think uh... uh... what's the the room and he'll be tended for like a first and a third right something like that uh... i don't think that's official but i think it's sort of rumors uh... You know, I think we should take a chance on him. I think if given a full off-season regimen and training camp and time to develop a rapport with Sanchez as opposed to just coming over on the fly and magically starting right away, that he has the physical ability to be a really top receiver. He's tall, he could jump. his hands are a little suspect we know but you develop a little rapport with the quarterback and and you know him and Kachri play a full season together opposite each other with Sanchez that could be a really good thing with our running game so I'd like to keep Breylin Edwards and I think he'll stay around too. Yeah I don't think anybody's giving up a first and a third to take Breylin Edwards. No definitely not. Just not gonna happen but and I agree we said it all season like When he's on, and I keep thinking about that catch in Miami, that just freakish catch. When he's on, he's on, but then a ball can hit him in the head. The ones that hit him in the face are just so frustrating. Oh, God. But he caught the ones in pretty much in the playoffs. I don't think he dropped one in the playoffs. There was one that he probably should have caught that he didn't. Which is kind of frustrating, but again, this type of wide receiver talent is not like a running back. You can't just pluck those off the shelf. It doesn't happen that way. I think one more year with Sanchez and one more year with Ryan's size 12 up his ass.
02 Jake: I think that would be good. you uh... howard greens now i love our green and i think howard green big number ninety five in the middle is a big run stopper i love these big fat guys so i'd love to see him stay uh... you know he probably wouldn't cost that much uh... wane hunter yeah i think how i think i'll be back But I think he did. He was one of those guys who like we lost Chris Jenkins. And you just thought, OK, well, we're just going to suck from now on in. And here comes every running game there is. And those guys really filled the hole. Pua played really well. Pua and Green and one other. Find them. Didn't one of the other guys step up? Well, Mike DeVito stepped up as well. DeVito, yeah. Who's now on Twitter, by the way. Oh, excellent. Wayne Hunter, yeah, outside linebacker. Oh, he was one of those guys that I think- Offensive lineman, sorry. You know, he was an offensive lineman, I think he was 78, who played a lot of that tight end formation, you know, where you would send him across the formation. He knows the system, so I just say keep him, but I don't think he's anything special with that you couldn't replace. Now my messes James he dig both the heavy bow heavy bow. That's a keeper for sure He's a special team stud. He hits hard. He can potentially step in and be Starting strong safety. I think Eric Smith Another guy that I think that a heg about and Smith sort of go hand-in-hand. So you might want to keep one and not keep the other depending on what happens with Kerry Rhodes. Yeah, I actually like Eric Smith for some reason. We talked about Brad Smith, I'm totally in Washington. Wallace Wright, yeah, I don't know. Yeah, I think he should be back. Just a special teamer? Yeah, yeah, I think those guys are valuable, really valuable when a guy can make a one-on-one tackle on a punt return down inside the 10 or... down the ball inside the 10. A team like us, the Jets, runs in place field position in defense. Special teams is so, so critical. So I think if you have an ace like that, it's worth keeping around. Yeah, I don't think I put too much to trying to keep special teamers. I would more I mean, you don't offer him, you know, a million dollars, but, you know, if he's, if he's. If it's reasonable, then why sign someone else when you could just sign him? You know? Alright, so here we go. So he's not a free agent at all, but because of the uncapped year, one of the special things that can happen. So in a cap year, you have a ceiling and a cap, right? So you cannot go over a certain amount and you have to spend up to a certain amount. We've talked a little bit about this before. And one of the things that you don't do with players is cut them at certain times because you take a hit on your cap.
00 Jake: You owe them a bunch of money. If you cut them, you've got to pay them all that money at that time. And that money then goes towards your cap of that year. Bad. In an uncapped year, in theory, you can cut those guys because it doesn't matter. Yeah, you're going to lose money. I mean, you have to pay this guy off. ... but basically it doesn't take away from your ability to then spend money on someone else because it's uncapped. So guys like Vernon Golston who probably have a huge cap number for cutting him are out there. I mean first of all do you think he has any value on the market? On the market to trade? No. Anybody out there, a third. Oh, why would a bag of beans? Why? Maybe some footballs. I don't know. I mean, I don't I don't think so. He hasn't shown anything. He's he he's shown less than anything. He hasn't he's gone back with sack in his two seasons in the league. And you're drafted number six overall as a defensive end slash linebacker who's gonna brush the passer? No, no value whatsoever. I don't even think So time to time to cut bait just take take it. I think so, you know This would be one of those where I wouldn't even feel all that bad if like Two years from now he was like good like I wouldn't even feel bad about it. I'd be like, oh well He sucked with us. He was never gonna be good with us Yeah, I mean, you know this there's a thing with me that you always kind of You want that guy to be good? You know you like just to be the gold a little piece of gold and the all sudden next year He's like just comes out starts dominating you like oh, that's not the little piece of gold I know. That would be if he was a 6th round pick. Yeah, I know. You know what I mean? Like, not number 6 overall. If you're number 6 overall, you're expected to step in there and do something. And this guy got a chance. I mean, he played under Rex Ryan. Shit, if you're not gonna get a sack as a outside linebacker under Rex Ryan's system, then you're not gonna get a sack. Ha ha. Alright, what do you think about Kerry Rhodes? What do you think's gonna happen with him? Actually, sorry. Let's not do that. Okay, because that's part of our next segment. Oh, that is part of our next. So I just want to say this is our sponsor segment This is where it ad would be If you're ad here Come on people advertising at check Kingdom calm. There you go so E-man huge man. He loved the E-man on the right. I think he has good successful blog Millions of followers so when I posted today they go as far as millions probably billions for maybe quarter of a trillion His he posted because he posted a big like you know, which of the following rumors will happen 2010 So here's all the Jets rumors. So I'm gonna read off these rumors. Okay, and then you from Least likely to most likely. Okay. Or, most likely to least likely, whatever you want. Okay, tell me which one of these are gonna happen or not.
02 Jake: Okay, gotcha. One, Kerry Rhodes goes on the trading block. Meaning we just, we really try to patricially trade him. So I'm gonna read them all off. Okay. Two, the Jets are interested, interested and, and or go after Antonio Carmondi. I'm saying to you, okay. It Ado is Thomas becomes a jet says wants to be a jet, but that's not a rumor. That's What's that's becomes a jet? Okay Ford Chad Pennington comes back to comes back to New York and becomes backup for Sanchez. Okay five Raiders Nnamdi awesome. Oh god. That's horrible awesome. Wow awesome. Wow It says wants to be a jet but again, not a good rumor to want to be. Becomes a jet. Becomes a jet. Okay, so you got, carry rose gets traded. Let's make it easy. Carry rose gets traded. Jets get Antonio Camardi. Adoias Thomas becomes a jet. Chad becomes a jet. Or they go after Niamdi Osamuah. It's horrible. Alright, so I'll go least likely. I'm gonna start with least and then go to what I believe is the most likely. But before I do that question, a Daley's Thomas free agent? I think he's gonna be released, yes. But remember, the Jets had that whole like, we can't sign anybody. I get it. I'm gonna do Least Likely. He's got a history with sexy Rexie and... Anyway, I'm gonna start with Least Likely, go to the most likely. You want me to give you all five right now? Well, no, name it and then say why. Least Likely is and then tell me why. Least Likely, non-de-as-am-wa, comes to the jets. I do not believe that we have enough to get him from the Raiders. I'd love it to happen I just don't see it happening if we had him the Jets would give up about 40 yards passing a game Had him on one side and Marievis on the other forget it, but I don't think that's happening The second one Cro-Marty. I just don't see San Diego trading with the team that just beat them in the playoffs to make us better. I just don't see it happening, although I know they want to get rid of Cro-Marty. Third, I think it will be you know somewhere in the middle of the carry roads on the trading block. I think he is going to be on the trading block. I'm just not sure what value he has. with the money that he makes and the season that he had. I think we're either stuck with him or we're gonna have to cut him. The next one, Adelius Thomas, I think he wants to come play with the Jets, wants to play with his buddy Bart Scott, wants to play for his old coach Rex Ryan, had some damn fine years with Rex Ryan. I can see that one happening. And the Chad thing, I can totally see that happening. Um, there's a little bit of the heart there, it's pulling me that way, but I can also see
04 Jake: it happening totally. Miami doesn't need him anymore, he's gonna be a backup wherever he goes, why not come be the backup in New York where you kinda got your shot and made it big and got a big contract and... You know, have the chance now to, he always talked about the role of Vinny Testiverdi when he was a kid and how important that was to him. And I have a feeling that he would be the type of guy that would like to reciprocate and give back to the Jets much in the same way that, for Sanchez. And that can be great, you know, no one knows this offense. from a quarterback perspective the way that Chad knows he knew that offense he ran it when when when it was underman genie i mean they did all sorts of fun stuff so uh that in that order namdi kromarti roads thomas chat wow god it just it it's not your day to be right. Why? Oh, not your day to be right at all. Did I get it all wrong? Yep. Least likely to, let's hear your, let's hear your, least likely to happen. Chad Payne to New York Jets in 2010. Wow. Wow, we went the polar opposite. Absolutely least likely to happen. Um. Why do you think that? Chad does not want to come back to the Jets. I don't think that was a good breakup. I think that's like going back to your ex-girlfriend, but you're not even their girlfriend anymore, or your boyfriend or whatever. You're like their side pie or something. You don't even get what you wanted to have back. Side pie. He lost his starting quarterback, kicked to the curb for you know, oldie mccoldster and then, and then he's gonna come back? No, not gonna happen. That was mangenie, I think. uh... maybe to nyamdi uh... i agree there's not enough i don't think that i don't think the nfl wants that to happen like yeah i would they don't want that happen because that would not be good football it'd be like every came with you know the the other team would not be able to score or throw or score because he just put those two out there and put everybody else back uh... so yeah i i don't think they want that happening this can happen Middle? I think that's an interesting, you know, cause he will be out there. We can't do the old midnight knock on the door like we did with the mad backer. But I think that's in the middle of the road. And Karmarti, I think, you know, coming up towards more likely. I agree with you about the whole you don't trade away to a team that just beat you except for who cares. Like, you know, unless you're going to play them immediately the next year or that next season or who knows what the Jets are going to do. Like if they think they can get value for someone who they don't feel like is performing at the level that they want to. I think that they would go into that deal and then I think absolutely Including including that deal like couldn't you see a carry roads for karmarti type of thing? With some you know, the fava beans and a golston
02 Jake: Just thrown in there. I think carry roads on the train block is the most I mean the man was literally the most outspoken about like his last season there and all that. So I think he had a crap season too. He had moments of brilliance but otherwise, I mean I will say he's good at coverage. He's just not good. No, he's good at coverage. He's not good at tackling. He's good at coverage. I would actually go the other way. I don't think he could cover for shit. He was not good against the run and he wasn't good at tackling, but he actually could stay with a guy. That's why we had a good, I mean, one of the reasons we had a good pass defense was that he was out there. I mean, he also had some good picks and a couple good sacks coming off the end. I think it wasn't enough, right? You triple his performance, you go, okay, that's a good performance, but the way it was and I think it was the worst year of his career. here. Which is really frightening on the best defense right but you have to you have to well You don't have to but It's a strange thing to say you're a member of this defense. You're one of those people you're a starter Although he's a starter non-starter, whatever, right? You played one of the guys on the field one of the 11 And yet you sucked so the other ten were that good you know he He he didn't have a sack all year. I don't think he had maybe one. Yeah, he did that strip sack against Against didn't he come off the end to grab playoffs to grab a that's not the regular season oh right winning in the playoffs well again he he had to me one of his worst seasons as a pro I would agree it certainly fell off and it's just odd that he would do that in such a in a defense that is, you know, geared towards allowing safeties to sort of blitz and get picks. And, you know, Ed Reed, I know he's a super talent, but, you know, grew up in that defense. And part of it was the defense, not Ed Reed. So, you know, it just felt weird that he didn't have... you Better year like you thought he'd be like, you know super all-pro with with Rex out there and it just didn't happen. So Yeah, yeah, totally well it starts on Friday, so let's talk a little bit about scheduling we will be back Probably what's the next week if stuff starts to happen, right? We do some trading some stuff happens Happens happens. It should report on it people people need our people love us uh... so yeah we should be back next week and then you know depending on basically up until the draft will definitely have a couple pre-draft
01 Jake: uh... episodes uh... to you know but that's only i think seven weeks away which is cool we cannot be future episodes we could talk about that we also uh... i'd like to get a their friend who knows a lot about that the new stadium which is now a reality uh... get them on talk about that so we have some stuff to do some filler got a lot of filler though because we're gonna get that draft and then you know that will be back to nothing in so um... but in the meantime if you want to stay up to date with uh... jet kingdom you know become a friend on fate on face book uh... you know to take him dot com and there's a fan become a fan right there or go on to face book research for checking them You can try to figure out which one is Jake, which one is Justin, which one is Jake. That's what we do. That's what you like us for because you don't want to hear about the loss right after the loss. Do you want to hear about the next game that we might win? That's a strategy.
