03 Jake: This is episode 72 of the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Thursday, April 29th. Draft grades 2010. of the women. Justin: Welcome to Jet Kingdom Podcast as always on this side of the digital and repetitive aisle. It is Jake and joining me, madder than a Hornet in a... Jake: bees nest what is uh my good friend Justin how you doing? I'm just peachy I am not madder than any hornets in any sort of nest I am doing great. Let's just say if you are a cop in Long Island Justin: and a jet fan and listen to this podcast so the chances of being pretty dim uh let's say tweet it up to at just jetkingham.com and help a brother out just saying alrighty it. It's not like I killed Jake: anybody or anything. I'm gonna say a violation. Just trying to get home for the podcast, for the people. Breakin' the law, breakin' the law. Justin: Alright, alright, so um... Your one call a week will be into the podcast. I love it Maybe they won't let you hang up in the middle of the call in the podcast Alright, so we got a big agenda today. We're gonna go over the draft do some grades and then we'll talk about the loss of Mr. Allen and mr. Leon and Take a call got a cool call and then we'll wrap it up So, you know just started off We were talking today, as it were, about doing the draft. And we were saying, what's the most popular episode? Well, it just turns out that the most popular episode is the Grading the Drafts episode, episode number 26. It's been downloaded the most. So I said, what was it? It was a long time ago. So. It was, well, 26 would be two years ago. But in terms of the most downloads, because the first episode still gets downloaded every week for some reason. So awesome. And so I looked at it, and all of our episodes combined have been downloaded in combination about 48,000 times. Wow, advertisers.
01 Justin: You heard it right here. That's right. All right. So let's get to the draft. First of all, so about the format, I did some informal, you know, polling and what do you think? Give you what do you think about the prime time and the whole sort of switching it up? Jake: I got to say, I was wrong. On the last podcast, I said, this isn't going to be great. There's a lot of stuff on TV. Who gives a shit about the draft? It's on a Thursday night. I'm not even gonna watch it and you know what I watched it and It was Faster than normal. We just I guess did they they they definitely just cut down the time between the picks, right? I mean it used to be 15 and now it's 10. They cut it down two years ago They didn't count down this here. I don't think All right, well, whatever did it made it seem like it was going faster and it was a nice piece of primetime television like it was really good I must say though I watched no other round I watched the first round and that was it so I think by breaking it out they lost me because I would normally watch like the first day as opposed we did well I didn't I didn't watch the first day usually watch the first well I watched the first day but I watched the first round usually I watched the first what do they do the first three rounds or two rounds. They do the first two rounds on the first day and I they missed me on that one. I did not tune in for any other rounds. Justin: Well because on Fridays is when you do your drag racing down the LIE. So you know... So you couldn't couldn't go that. Yeah I... I liked it. I'll tell you a couple things. One is it's not that they sped it up. It's that they told teams or this is the rumor anyway Rumors they told teams hey listen if you know who you're gonna pick You're not trading and doesn't matter who's calling you just pick don't wait the full 10 minutes And so you saw a lot of teams I think the first six picks were pretty quick like five minutes six minutes Jake: So it really started to go like to wait in case someone's gonna call them at the last minute and be like Hey hey hey, I got a third and a fourth for your second, or for your first or whatever. Justin: One thing. Right, but if you know you're not going to give it up, if you know that the guy- Jake: Yeah, if you know you're not going to give it up, and you're going to just pick a guy. But you never know what people might call an offer. I will say one thing though, and I think a lot of people have said this across the board. And I was watching on ESPN, what channel were you watching on? Justin: Yes, Tanner. I was flipping back and I only have one choice first. I was watching ESPN on Friday. That was watching both Jake: Both and then Saturday I was watching but so I can only speak for ESPN because I don't have the NFL Network fucking cable vision not a sponsor Justin: This is sponsored by cable vision and the Sussex County
05 Jake: the they ruined the drama because they show the guy on the phone and you know that the guy on the phone is the guy who's getting picked so like they haven't it Goodell hasn't announced the pick but there's the guy in the back room on the phone so you know he's the guy getting picked so they sort of ruined that for you they they show you who's getting picked before you're supposed to know he got picked but what does it matter well it's more fun to see like who's it gonna be who's it gonna be and then Roger Goodell announces it as opposed to they're just scanning the back tables for the three guys who it might be and then they catch one on the phone it's like oh it's that guy so like I don't know I just like the the notion of Kadel walks out there and with the fourth pick in the NFL draft, you know, you don't you don't know who it's gonna be He announces it. It just ruins it a little bit a little bit of drama gets gets sucked And I've seen that across a number of different Blogs and web things and announcers and writers and such That's been a consensus, I think. Justin: I guess only if you think that that's when you should be hearing it. For me, it's like... That is when you should know. Jake: That is when you should find out. Justin: Your opinion. For me, I don't really care. I kind of like the back room listening to them and then them thinking, I don't know, it's just, it's all... Like, I think you're doing like the awards show that you don't hear until they open the envelope. That's what I want. I want the award show. I don't care. I don't care. I just want to know what the pick. Jake: Let me ask you this question. How did Tim Tebow... number one, how did he get picked before a couple of quarterbacks who he shouldn't have gotten picked before? and number two, how did they have those hats at his house? Justin: Yeah, those are two actually really good questions. Um, do they have a bunch of hats at his house? I do not have the answer to any of the questions. Jake: Do they have like 12 different team's hats at his house? Did he know the Broncos were going to pick him? Justin: No, he couldn't have. You can't know because someone could pick before them. Like the Broncos could have every intention of picking you. But if they don't pick, if someone picks before you, right, then you're gone. Jake: That was like one of my biggest questions, like, how'd they get those hats there? Justin: It was a really weird, I mean, first of all, let's just, you know, call a draft a draft is that this was supposed to be one of the weakest quarterback drafts. And it was. Jake: And of course, somebody got picked over all number one. It always happens. Justin: But it was a weak quarterback draft. I'm sorry. Most of them were hurt. Most of them were like, they're not NFL ready, quote unquote. It wasn't a big draft class for quarterbacks. So I think what happened is a lot of teams just went for other needs. There's a lot of quarterbacks moving around the league. This was the year that people went, hey, listen, if it's a weak draft, I'm not going to go pick a quarterback
01 Justin: here, or I'm going to wait and see how far they slide. And some of those guys slid to, I think, the third and fourth round. I mean, definitely slipped to the second day. Jake: Well, Klossom was the one that really slipped. Justin: But that's sort of the story of the draft. This story of the draft is those two guys. Um... him and the other one uh got it Corey yeah I'm quite both of them slid like Jake: off the planet you could have just gone I was odd that that that someone would take a shot on on what's his face Tebow Tim Tebow and not on like a quarterback like Jimmy Cl like Jimmy Clossen, particularly Denver. Like Clossen just played in the offense that Denver runs. You know, Charlie Weiss was his only coach in college and that's the offense that McDaniels runs. Like it's just weird. Justin: I don't know. And what's weird is that they also just got Brady Quinn. So. Like what do you say? Jake: Now they have both Notre Dame quarterbacks. Justin: But if you pick a guy, no, you pick a guy in the first round. Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't take gloss. Yeah. If you pick a guy in the first round, a quarterback last first round, he, again, they've said this over and over again, we went through this last year, right? There was a lot of talk, should the Jets start Sanchez or should they start Kellen Clemens? Well, if you can pick them number six, you can put them out there. Like you're giving them the money, get them out there. And especially nowadays, again, we talk about this almost every year, but basically there is no three, four, five year plans. You win, and I said this last year and I was right and I'll say it again, I'm right again. You play for this year. You're all in this year because next year you never know. You could get your... quarterback hurt in the first day of training camp and you can be out of it. So you play for the year you're in. Yes, you want to build over time and it's nice to make picks that can grow into stuff but you watch the teams now. They're building for the year that they're in. They build their team in the off season with free agency and the draft and that's it and they go right back in and do it again. So to pick a guy that's like I don't know. Are you fighting against Brady? No one's saying that he's a starting quality. He's going to take years to go. He has some ability, but I don't know. It was a weird pick. That was the one that I kind of went, huh? And then the other cool story was Jason Campbell getting traded to the Raiders. Jake: Well, they were definitely going to get rid of him. Justin: They're saying that as of today, Jamarcus Russell is sort of going to be let go. Jake: No, no, no, no, no, no. Justin: Oh no, that's the story. Literally just reading 10 minutes ago at the talk, he's probably going to be released soon. Jake: Oh yeah, it was, I was reading, I didn't read anything today, but yesterday that he was going to report to camp and compete. Justin: Yes, well today they're going to release it. Jake: They have tons of quarterbacks there.
00 Jake: I mean they got, Russell was the number one overall. They got, I know that they had obviously Campbell. They have Greg Kowski. They got. Thank you. Fry and they even have That bust from the Ravens. That was the first round pick Camera Kyle bowler they have like three first round pick quarterbacks on the roster that are all under 30 Justin: Crazy so here's a quick question. Then we get to get on to the draft of the Jets draft If Jamarcus Russell gets released and just fades off into another metal and does he beat out Ryan Leaf as the Number one worst bust ever. Yes. We start do we start calling bus Russell's no Marcus but he's Jake: Pick not Ryan Lee, you know saying Ryan. Ryan Leaf was number one. No, he wasn't He was number two. Peyton Manning was number one. And they were deciding. So they obviously made a good choice. Well, not number two. Well, the Colts made a good choice. They picked Peyton. They could have picked Ryan Leaf. So that was... He was certainly a bust. But Russell has been even worse. Because he's number one overall. And, you know, I mean, that's just terrible. You know, to be the number one overall pick and just never really, like, do anything. Like, really, nothing. You know, he's... Justin: And his work ethic and showing up, you know, big and fat to training camp. And, I mean, there's nothing good about... what they did. I mean just, there's nothing good about him. Jake: No, and there were, you know, there were so many guys that they, you know, number one overall pick that year. I mean there were a lot of guys that were picked after him that have made it to the Pro Bowl and have been really good players. Dorell Davis. You know, I mean there were a lot of good... Players that year that were drafted and well that that was our just to revisit a little bit Justin: That was hard to roll revisit David Harris here. Yeah, and chance he stuck he put whatever he's gone But we got another pick back for him only traded away. So Jake: Peterson Justin: Right, but that's that's always the hindsight the point is that a lot of people during that draft were saying No good like stay away. Anyway, I agree. He could become the Jamarcus I'm telling you, you know, sometimes sometimes in a draft you pick a Jamarcus. We'll see I'm coining it right now So so I wanted a question to you. Did the Jets pick any Jamarcus? This year, I don't know Jake: You don't know till after the fact is that they didn't pick till 29. So no
05 Jake: Like, I don't think you could be a bust unless you're a top 10 pick uh in the NFL like because you're there's a different expectation level like Vernon Gholston Is it your Marcus? You got me saying it, uh, but like is Kyle Wilson gonna be a bust? I don't know use the 29th pick so What's the expectation? I expect him to be good, but he's not even gonna start He's going to be the third corner on the team as a rookie. Justin: So let's talk about it. So Jed's draft went in with, I think it was five picks overall. We all were dead wrong. I think we were right in that. I was right in that we went for a corner in the first round. The only thing that we were dead on wrong, both of us, and not only once, but multiple times was that Trader Mike was going to, in the first round, was going to trade up. And like we kept waiting and waiting and waiting and he did and he stuck around and he picked up Kyle Wilson, corner from Boise State, 5'10", 194 pounds. You know, graded really highly. Hey, you know, what do you think about the pick? Give me a grade, give me a grade. A through F. A through F. And then, so I want four grades from you, or five. I want the four picks as we go through them. And then I want an overall grade. And then we'll take a call. Jake: Well, I don't really know them. I, you know, you played for Boise State. They were good. and he's gonna play the nickel he's gonna be the third corner uh probably playing the slot quite a bit and he's already been saying some great things about learning from Revas and and Revas has said some great things about mentoring him so that's a great thing right off the bat you know and if we're gonna play the kind of defense that we're gonna play to have another corner out there is a good thing so you have Revas all world You got CroMarty, who has been an all-pro and is still young and athletic and big. Has a lot to prove. Has a lot to prove, right? And here's this guy who's decent size. 5'10 is not too big but not too small for a corner. Um, and... Justin: I think Revus is 5'10. Jake: Yeah, I mean, he's a good size. I think, I think, uh, in some cases he was actually listed as one of... if not the top, one of the top two or three corners on the draft board. So this is a good pick for the jets. I give it an A- just because it was number 29. If Trader Mike got up to number, you know, five and did something special, nay, but this is a good pick. I like it. Justin: Yeah, I mean this is a Again, I predicted that we're gonna go with a corner because all the stories of everything we've heard about Rex Ryan is saying hey Listen, the guy likes corners. He would get corners until the day is long I think there's a couple things one is you just know that this is the kind of game he wants to play you Never know what's gonna happen on the field. Never who's gonna get hurt
01 Justin: Having you know a all-world corner and a really good corner and then a really good corner and waiting is Nothing, but great and then that allows him to play the kind defense he wants You know, is it the biggest need of the Jets? Not really So but I give it I give it like a Thank you like a B plus. I think they got good value out of a 29 pick. I think you'll Think you I I don't know if he'll start start, but I think you'll play a lot this year. I'm not gonna start By the end of the year, I think I don't think so Well, we'll reevaluate So then round two again, we were gonna trade trade trade No, we didn't stayed right with our pick number 29 again local boy number 61 and picked up Vlad Dukas? Dukas? Eh? Jake: He's a local boy from Stanford. Offensive tackle 6-4, 300. Yeah, he's a big boy. He's gonna play guard, I think. I think he'll probably slide in where Fannico left. Obviously they had a plan here. He's a big big dude, right? 330 pounds. Big boy. So he's gonna play the guard. And I think, you know, I think he will, I think he's gonna be able to compete right away for a starting position. I know we drafted a guy last year to play the offensive line. and he'll probably, I don't remember his name, but he'll... Slauson, right? Something like that, yeah. So those two will probably compete for the job between the two pro ballers. I'm a little upset, I can't say three pro ball offensive linemen anymore, but we'll get to that in a little bit. But this obviously filled the need that we knew we were going to have and I'm not too dissatisfied with this, I'll give this pick a B. Justin: Yeah, I mean, before they release fanica, it looks like this is like a huh? That way, in that way, I'll give it a C-. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, he's a big guy. He's six four. What are you going to do from Massachusetts? It looks he looks like he's very, very energetic, which is which is really good. So yeah, but yeah, I just I just think it's I just didn't think this was the biggest need. So I'm going to give it a lower grade. I'm actually going to like, I think I'm going to give a C minus. Jake: Hmm. See, that's interesting, because I believe I said we would pick an offensive lineman. agreement. Yeah, and I like having the strategy. I like having the thirst. Justin: Here's the thing. You gotta pick, when you have a great line that's getting older, you can't replace them all at once, right? I think the, who was it a couple years ago to try to do that? Green Bay. Green Bay, I think, picked two guys in the...
01 Justin: like three years ago, I think it was Roger's first year, and it was just brutal. He got brutalized because they had so many rookies on their front line that just like they got Jake: it was like Swiss cheese. Well we did it too, remember. I mean, Mangold and Brick were both first round picks in the same draft, and they both started right off the bat. But they're pro players. Justin: Yeah, and I remember that year it wasn't great. D-Brick wasn't doing too well. And then brought in Fenneka. Jake: He has developed over the years. Justin: Well, that's what I'm saying. So I like the strategy of bringing in not all at once, but slowly working in new guys. Right? You get sloshed in last year, then you throw in another guy this year, and then you get him trained up. And so by the time you're ready, by the time these older guys like Fenneka are kind ready to be put out the pasture. You got a new guy to slide in. The other thing I like, and I think this is a strategy, it's a tough strategy because you never know when to do it, but it's kind of like the Eagles. The Eagles are always willing to get rid of a guy before he's done. If he has one or two years left, they'll get rid of him because they'd rather go with the strength of a newer player than wait until the guy is over his prime. And I think Fenneka is kind of like that. He's currently he's kind of on the decline, right? But he probably had a couple more years, but they'd rather get rid of the same thing with Thomas Jones. Like, I think this team is figuring that out. Now, who's to say it's going to work? But that's the strategy, right? You don't get rid of players when they're done. You get rid of them just when they're starting to get done. And then you move in, you what? But again, I didn't see this as a great need. I thought we had other stuff. Defensive end although now we got ghost another defensive end whatever I give it a c-minus All right fourth pick. I like this dick. So then we did some then we did some magic here Picked up Joe McKnight. Yep. I like Who is a running back 511 hundred eighty eight Southern Cal you USC? You know I just actually his highlight reel the other day is really good not only was the soundtrack good cuz soundtracks always good Yeah, he's got that kind of yeah, you know, it's like he's got that Leon Washington esque thing Jake: They got a clone And that's it for this video. Justin: and they traded away Leona Washington. So what do you think? Jake: A little sad. But this guy is exactly that. He's sort of a Leon clone, a cheaper version that he played at USC. He sort of was there next. like Reggie Bush type guy, which is sort of what Leon is like, an open field player, could catch the ball in the backfield, play some special teams, which is, you know, which is what made Leon a little bit expendable. Kyle Wilson can play some special teams as well, which is, which is always overlooked, but very important.
00 Jake: So I like this pick. I think the Jets did a really good job in this draft. I'll give this pick a B+. I think running backs in the 4th round you get great value there. I think we picked Leon in the 4th round. If I remember correctly. Justin: And here's the... First of all, let me play Devil's Advocate. I'm going to play the... Go on! Yeah. Go on. So we were known for running the ball Having a great offensive line last year. So what do we do? We go away and we trade away one of our we release one of our offensive linemen and we get rid of two of The three guys who made our lot are running game. So great, right? Jake: Seems stupid doesn't it it does because you went to the AFC Championship game with that team But as you say, every year is a new year and they did replace them with other guys. They replaced Leon with McKnight and they replaced, I'm going to say they replaced Thomas Jones last year with Sean Green. And then they replaced that backup role with Lydani and Tomlinson. So I feel like they are... I don't know, it's hard to say what Leon was gonna be this year, we'll see when he gets to Seattle. Leon at 100% if he never got hurt, cannot be replaced by Joe McKnight. But Leon with a torn up, fucked up leg, by all accounts, really messed up leg. I'd still love to get him back, but... Turning 28, 29 years old? Yeah, with the busted leg, it's not... As much as I love Leon, it's... Just, you know, the writing's on the wall. Running backs don't last. Just saying, yet another. Thomas Jones is a freak, you know? Justin: Yet another Jersey out the door. For me. Jake: See, I buy the right ones. Justin: Oh, I have Sanchez, and I have Mangold, and I have a couple others that go to. Jake: Curtis Martin is my go-to when I need one. Justin: Yeah, I do have a courage Martin too. Yeah, and I think just to come back on that, I think one of the things that you're, when you're looking, the underlying story is that Leon was getting older, not clear how he was going to come back, and that he was going into a contract year, and it was going to be tough to re-sign him. And so because they get a lot of people on the list. I think Jake: Probably why they got rid of fanica, too I mean, we got tons of guys that need to be signed man gold Reavis Harris D-break the list goes on Justin: It's gonna be hard well and this is gonna be hard to re-sign them all so I think they're Trying to replace what they can and then they'll sign who they can so I give this one like an a-minus. I like this. I kind of like it. All right then around five another is this a full back I believe right This is actually you know, it's a funny thing if we pick Joe McKnight everybody went. Oh, that's cool But now you got four running backs and then we traded away
05 Justin: Leon and later and moved up I think like a few picks. We traded him and then moved up a few picks for the trade. Probably Seahawks. And picked up John Connor. Love the name. Fullback. John Connor. Yes, a very termator. Jake: 5-11, 2-46. He's going to be a blocker. He's going to learn from Tony Richardson for a gear who's like 80. And then he'll probably just be the lead blocker. Come on, he's like 79. He's not a day over 79. He really is like 40. He's a phenomenal lead blocker and nobody better to learn from than a guy who has blocked for many a thousand yard rusher in his career. So this guy is certainly a project John Connor and he'll likely just sit behind Tony Richardson for a year learning how to block. Give me a grade. That's C-minus. He's not going to make any impact this year. This is a long termer. Justin: Yeah, it's okay. Jake: It's not a sexy position, fullback. Justin: I'll give it a B-. Here's the thing. What we're not counting in is San Antonio Homes. Right. Because San Antonio Homes should be counted in the fifth round pick. That's a fifth round pick. So if you throw that one in, that's an A. That's an A by itself. Jake: Fifth round pick for an M for a non hurt, you know, maybe troublesome, but whatever even if he won plays not as troublesome as big then Justin: Well, that's true they're gonna have they're gonna have issues So Santoni Holmes, I think that thrown in now give me an overall grade on the entire Jets draft this year Jake: What do you think? Well when you put it that way and you throw in And you throw in... Justin: We could've been throwing a little bit of Braille in Outwards because we gave away one of our picks last year for Braille in this year. Jake: I don't like doing all that. Alright fine. I'm gonna go ahead and give us a B+. Nice B+. B+, overall. Just because Trader Mike wasn't as fun as he usually is. Yeah, I didn't. Justin: I'm not on the plus. I'm on a solid, solid B. They hit some needs, but they also did a little up, a little down. I think at the end I give it a B. If you threw in Santoni Holmes, yeah, you could push it up, but I'm not. I'm just looking at the picks this year. I will say, and I've said this 400 times, and I'm going to say it another twice and then never say it again. Not true. Thank you. Last year we had three picks. All three played during the year. Two of them, or one of them started the entire year. Another one, and two of them were in the AFC Championship and were game changers in the playoffs. That's why I'm here. Jake: So thanks for coming. Justin: So if you say Sanchez, Green, Slauson, and Slauson did play, and he was in and out, but whatever, and he was a late round pick, like 6 or 7.
07 Justin: If you say sent, those three players, two of them were game changers, game changers in the playoffs. Meaning... But green 100%, right? Two, those two run touchdowns were like game changers. And then of course Sanchez led the team by throwing the ball. If you can get out of a draft with three players, two of which play in the AFC championship and are game changers, then I like when you pick up four players, because let's say our numbers slip a little and we don't go for whatever that is, 66%. you Let's say we go 50% this year. If two of these players are that good, meaning they game change and they play in the playoffs, shit, that's a great draft, right? And, you know, who are these going to be? I think you'll see, I think you could get?, I think you could get three of these guys. I think Dukas, Dukasay, Dukas. Um, I think he won't be a game changer. He'll just be a guy and he just won't let people get hurt. Um, I think you'll see McKnight and Wilson. You say Wilson won't start. I think Wilson will start by the end of the year. Jake: Um, I think just like they did Greenlee this year. No way. Last year. You don't think Cromartie will keep his job? Wow, that's pretty insane. Alright, whatever. Well, if Wilson's that good, then great. I don't think Kamarne's a long-term solution. Justin: I think he's a one-year wonder. I think he'll come in, he'll play tough, he'll have some highlight real shit, and at the Jake: end of the day, he'll just get the ball thrown his way. Justin: Yeah, and I think next year, 2011, it'll be... Reavis Wilson, all right, and those would be our corners and we'll be happy to pick and shit and then he'll go out and pick up another One. All right. Alrighty, so we got a solid being a B+. Now, let's take our let's take a little question from the Call I'll play it and then we'll respond to it. You don't want to you don't want to talk about Leon and fanica Jake: Oh, so to where I did I feel like we kind of did well, I mean I'm upset I'm upset about FANICA. It's like you got pulled over by a cop. Almost. I... thanks. I... uh... I don't mind the Leon. Even though I liked Leon more than I liked FANICA. I mean, it's just... That's so true. He's just a... He was really a... Really inspirational player. Uh, and he did everything. and he was a team MVP. But losing all pro guard, I am, I buy in so much to the offensive line and how important it is to the team's success. And losing a guy who's made like nine pro bowls in a row or something along those lines and has played for 11 seasons and has only missed like two starts. in all those seasons and it's still really good and
00 Jake: and led to, it was one of the reasons why the team was such a great rushing team I think they're gonna miss it, I really do it reminds me of when we didn't have Pete Kendall back and then it just kind of went all to hell um, Klight and uh I don't know, I'm just a little upset, but you know It's a lot of money to pay an offensive lineman. I think you need like nine or ten million dollars a year. It's a lot of money. So that's all I really have to say. Leon, alright, coming off the broken leg, we drafted a guy that's going to replace him. I think we'll be fine there. Justin: Yeah, I think that Fenneke, Pro Bowl Fenneke is a... It's more of a name recognition thing. It kind of reminds me of a little bit of Ray Lewis or I Jake: Think Ray Lewis is still damn good. And I think Justin: Prove himself as being but stats wise if you you compare regals to other people and stats wise last year stats aren't everything Yeah, I'm saying everything. He was not. There are players who make the Pro Bowl because they have the name recognition. Benneka was one of those players. I'm not saying he wasn't great. He was brought in to help out a rookie or a very young line and help out Mangold and D-Brick. Mangold and D-Brick are now Pro Bowl players. So I think now is the time to bring in someone who they help make better, right? You know the rumor is he was getting no he was getting chatty in the in the locker room He rumor is he was pissed about the Thomas Jones trade The rumor is he was becoming the guy who you don't want to have around and so there was not only money There was not only that is time to bring someone else his past protection was not good that play the play in In in the Saints the Saints play Where Sanchez got sacked in the backfield if I remember correctly and this is a while ago and many beers before You know that was one play Jake: He got blown up. Oh my god. They ran for the most yards in the league Yeah, and how many when they were behind him a lot see that stat they ran him a lot They run to the right and he pulls a lot. I think Mangle pulled a lot. Anyway, it doesn't matter. Your points are well taken, and it's a very good lead up to our call. Alright, let's do it. Why don't we take our call? Justin: Alright, I will play our call, and so I'm going to play it now. Jake: Essentially what it says is you can't have more than a certain number of douchebags on your team or else what happens is they melt down During the middle of the season because of examples like the recent Chargers and Cowboys team
02 Jake: Now given that Bart Scott takes up about 60% of your douchebag quotient Adding on some of the recent players that you've got you think that that kind of preemptive tipping point Where now you're gonna struggle to win because of the amount of attitude on the roster. Thanks for your time Justin: first of all, I gotta say Want to name this podcast the douchebag tipping point the douchebag quotient But he said tipping points. I want douchebag tipping point. How many douchebags? Do you put on a team before the tipping point? It goes over Good question Absolutely not I've all the douchebags on our team Bart Scott isn't 60% of the dude's madness. Jake: If Bart Scott wasn't on our team, I'd say he's 100% of the dude's madness. Well then, then he is on our team, so he's 0%. Oh, he's a mouthy guy. Justin: He is a mouthy guy, but so what? Alright. He plays the play, I like it. Um, it is something, it's funny because I think you've been having this conversation, uh, without me. And I've had this conversation without you, with my good friend Ray Ray at work. And I think there is a legitimate thing. I think there is a point in which you get too many douche bags on your team, and it becomes a problem. Jake: We've actually talked about this a little bit in the podcast is that last week, I think Nick has a point with with the addition of like. you know, Jason Taylor now and, and, and, and Romardian Holmes who were, that didn't even happen last podcast. We even had all these guys like Jason Taylor. Yeah. We discussed it on the last day. Wasn't, we hadn't happened. It did. It certainly did. It did. All right. We spent a lot of time on it. Um, but you know, Holmes missing the first four games, Edwards missing the first game. Ah, Cromartie, eight kids in 17 states, you know, it's like, it's like... Wait, Edward is gonna miss a game? He's missing the first game, absolutely. Justin: So you mean first game we have no receivers? Jake: We have Mr. Jericho Cottrey, Mr. Dustin Keller, and whoever's coming out of the backfield. And, uh, the clownster. Justin: So the first game against the Ravens we've got no receivers. Jake: That's right. He's serving his one game suspension for his crap that he did outside of the nightclub with LeBron James' friends in Cleveland, which is why they shipped him out of Cleveland. So yeah, I mean, we do have some douche bags. And he's right. The quotient is... It's a good theory. You don't want to have too many. Justin: Do we have too many? That's the question. Jake: Well, I don't think we have too many because it's... Our team is molded in the persona of our leadership. And our leadership is Rex Ryan, and he is bold, and he could be called a douchebag if he wasn't your head coach. I think everybody else does say he's a douchebag. There you go.
01 Jake: But you know what, he got results, leading the way that he led, and being brash, and being bold, and doing things his way. And I think as long as you don't have Man Genie as your head coach, or Bill Belichick as your head coach, you can have a few more douchebags, because you can control them a little better, because it's your personality. But if you're a control freak, and it's my way or highway kind of coach. It's likely the reason why Pittsburgh got rid of San Antonio homes because they just can't handle it, but I feel like in New York with Rex I think we can handle it, and I think we're We haven't tipped But we're close add One more mouth add to to this team, and I'd say yeah Justin: Let's let's get our let's get our top ten douchebag list. So you're saying you're saying we have I'm not not our team not not yes on audit order of douchebag it used baguette rate just naming 10 Just 10. I don't know if we have 10. No, but let's name our you see say Bart Scott Scott certainly Jake: Antonio put Holmes and Edwards on the list and we're Marty. Yes, Jason Taylor on the list Taylor's are all new guys Um, well not Edwards. You might want to put LT on the list because he's a little bit of a prima donna. Justin: LT? Um, he does the uh, you know, I don't know if there's that many others. Jake: You don't think that's- six players? That's a huge amount of douchebags. Well no, I'm saying I can't think of too many others. Justin: That's a bucket of douchebags. Well that's like 10% of the- I think we got rid of Fannica, maybe he was a douche. Jake: Maybe, but Thomas Jones we got rid of and he was the opposite of a douche. Justin: How am I not gonna name this podcast Too Many Douches? Jake: The douchebag quota. Justin: Douchebag quota, douchebag tipping, tipping, douchebag point. I don't know. Tip your douchebag. I think this is a real, real problem. And I know we're all making jokes about it, but this is a real problem. And there's two ways this goes down. We started winning games and we talked about this before. We talked about it with an example of actually a douchebag that's now on the Dolphins. questions. If we start winning games and the defense is pumping and Sanchez is not throwing five picks a game and you know Everybody's having a happy good time douche douche bags they they don't care Yeah, they will party on and we will name our fifth podcast the fifth one of the season party on douche bags That being said, if this team starts to lose and the end, because that's what douchebags do douchebags. Start talking shit when the team loses and they started going, oh, if I had played more and boy, I wish I had done something and that coach doesn't know he's doing. And you know that that's what they start to do.
01 Justin: And that's just creating locker room bullshit. And then the locker and bullshit turns into on field bullshit. And on field bullshit turns into losing games. and self-repeating and then you end up with, you know, six and ten season. So, this, I think there is too many. I literally think there is. I think they've put in too many new specs on this team and the other, the quality players are all young. That's the problem is that there is, um... There is too many old douche bags. Let me ask you this. Jake: Let's pick on one of these douche bags, Jason Taylor. I really wish we wouldn't have signed him. I really hate Jason. Because then the pats went out and cut a dailies Thomas. And I really wish that he had his best years under Rex Ryan. I really wish that we could have gotten him instead of Jason Taylor if we just would have waited a week till after the draft. But oh well, now he'll go somewhere else. And I think Fannica signed already. He's with the Cardinals. Justin: He is with the Cardinals. Jake: So, Feli and Fannica with the Cardinals. Justin: So that brings us to the last segment of the day. Is this sponsored? This is sponsored by the Long Island Police Department and the letter 3. That's not a letter. Well, okay, the number 3. So let's talk about advertising at JetKingdom.com. Yes, advertising. If you too want to be mentioned with the podcast that says douchebag 40,000 times, step right up. So, old poll, new poll. Old poll is grade the Jets 2010 draft. 50% of you... Jake: That was the old poll? How's the old poll? I just voted on that poll today. Justin: I know. Well, the old polls, it happens fast. That's the new poll. And the new poll is, do the jets have too many douchebags? Ahhh. Funny, right? It's funny how that happens. It happens so fast. Actually... Jake: just about to post it as we speak. It's like most people thought the draft was a B. Justin: And it is a B. Everybody in the world rated a B. So okay, so the new poll is, do the Jets have too many douchebags? Vote on the podcast.
