03 Jake: This is episode 73 of the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Monday, May 24, 2010. Super Metalands. Justin: of the women. Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom Podcast. As always, on an early podcast day, joining me across the digital aisle. Justin: Good buddy Justin. Justin's been a long time. How you doing? It's been too long. I'm doing all right. Thank you You look very orange today. I'm wearing my Bengals colors, of course Jake: Yeah, when we play them and play them Thursday night, right? Thanksgiving night and really Justin: Yes, really. Jake: Well, it has been almost a month since our last podcast and we thought that you, the listening audience, needed to have us come back and talk about a few things. They need us. It's been, you know, a few things going on. Not a lot. What? So it's like it's not going to be a long podcast, although we say that and then it could end up being a 14 hour podcast. True. But we got some things on the agenda. We want to talk about the 2014 Super Bowl, talk about Reavis and his extension and where that's going. Talk about blackout in the new stadium and. probably and maybe even talk about one of the bigger news is Big piece of news was Marcus Russell being cut as why while ago and we'll throw in some ants some OTA stuff It's some Sanchez stuff. Well, let's kick off with the news that should be coming out today I was listening to serious NFL radio this weekend as I drove to and fro the places that I was going and There's a lot of talk about the new 2014 Super Bowl. There's a lot of sarcasm involved. There was a lot of, you know, if New York gets it, what does this mean for the rest of the the rest of the country and all the different All the different what's-his-faces? Cities? All different cities? We have outdoor stadiums. Are you thinking about cities? Am in stadiums. So what do you think? I mean, you know, give me your kind of quick overview if you put any thought to it I have this would be New York and I think it's New York Miami and maybe Tampa Bay. I think of the ones are in it still True Miami. I think which has had it more than any other Super Bowl any other place Tampa Bay, I don't I think they have one coming up though Justin: Um, well, I mean, as a, as a New Yorker, um, I would love to see, I'm not one of those guys who, who doesn't want to see the, um, the big events in our city, like, you know, like the Olympics and things of that nature.
10 Justin: I, I kinda like the idea of those things happening, um, in our city. I think, um... You know, I think it could only mean great things, first of all. It's a game that is played in the winter, in the weather, and all the championship games are potentially played in bad weather. Why would that even be an issue? I mean, as far as the game is concerned, I understand it from the whole, you know, it's a big press thing, it's a big party thing, people want to go to nice weather in the winter as a vacation. I can see all that, but who wouldn't want to come to New York? Like, if you, if, let's just say, you know, Kansas City makes it to the Super Bowl, which they're not going to because they're in the AFC and the Jets are going to be there. AFC Super Bowl team, but let's just say Kansas City makes a Super Bowl. Why wouldn't they want to come to New York and you know It's cold to shit there if they're hosting the AFC Championship game They may as well sit in another cold weather game. It might even have the advantage I I like to see the game not taken to a you know Inside of a dome or like you know play it in the elements that it's played in and don't make it artificial by putting it in Miami or San Diego or New Orleans every every year. You know I Would like to see a new stadium new facility in New York get the Super Bowl. Jake: Get the nod. Yeah, I mean obviously I think it's hard for me to, I'm going to try to do the reverse but okay if I'm going to do play out Devil's advocate I'll talk about a few things. One is it really for the four hours that the actual game is going on is the very tiny amount of the two weeks of events that it is. And the people use this as a corporate retreat, they use it to go play golf, they use it as a vacation, they use it as a networking event, they use it as a party, they use it as everything else. So I get if you're the person who's doing it for those reasons that this, that moving into a cold weather place that doesn't have any kind of interest. Just. would be like, well, that's no fun. But having said that, it's New York City. If you can't find something to do in the middle of January or the beginning of January in New York City, then you're probably dead. Because New York isn't really based on the weather. Everything's, you know. So. all of Broadway, all the museums, all the theaters, all the bums. They all are outside, all the time. They don't go inside. Restaurants, bars, lounges, sites to see. Central Park looks
00 Jake: just as nice in the middle of winter as it does in. You can go carriage rides with your little... Don't put those disgusting blankets on. No, no, no, no. Come to New York City and put those blankets on. I don't care because I'm not going in those things. So, I mean, to me, it's like, you know, subways will work. Everything will continue to work even if it is horribly, you know, horrible weather. And I agree with you. I'm with the, you know, football should be played where it's played. If it only needs to be played at 72 degrees or 68 degrees indoors, then let's just make every stadium a dome stadium and call it arena football. That's not football to me. It's an outdoor sport. I don't know what the percentage is, but I think more than half of the stadiums are outdoors. And then some percentage of those are in the north. the To me, some of the most epic games, even though it wasn't a very good game, but I remember flipping over to it was the Bills-Cults game at the end of this year, and it was just white out snow. It looked awesome. I would have loved to be there. I you know I've been to some of the coldest games on the planet that I can imagine and that you were with me at The last one which is the Bengals game. That was probably the coldest game. I've ever been to as a fan Literally just freezing freezing cold. It was still fun. You know the game becomes fun So the other thing is in the middle of January it can be 50 degrees, it can be 55. It can also be piss-pouring down in Miami, like it was, I think, two or three Super Bowls ago, the Colts, just poured rain the entire time. So, you know, weather is weather, and it's not like it's a guarantee it's gonna be negative 30 on June 30. It's not like we're in Alaska, and you'd be like, well, you know, you're... everybody's gonna die on that one game standing outside now it could be fifty degrees be forty five it'll be you know people put warmers and whatever and it will drink can hot chocolate wrinkles too much and i think it'll be great well there's indications that Justin: the and their clues that sort of make it seem like uh... like the the uh... the jets or I shouldn't say the jets that the New York Stadium whatever it's going to end up being called New Meadowland Stadium is or if the sponsor steps up in the last minute A the NFL Network is airing the selection show which we're taping this, taping, as if it's on tape. We are recording this podcast on Monday, Monday, May 24th. It comes out tomorrow, Tuesday, May 25th, live at three o'clock on the NFL network for 90 minutes. So, yeah, I mean, it would be odd that they would do the... you you know that they would broadcast an hour and a half show to announce that it's going to be in
03 Justin: Tampa for the sixth time ever or Miami for the 11th time ever you know it's like big deal it's been there five or six seven times before only a big announcement warrants a 90-minute selection special for something that happened can take literally 10 seconds all right the Super Bowl is in CityX done. Like what else is there to say if it's in Tampa? All right, it's in Tampa, you know. So that's a clue. And, you know, essentially, the Jets are set up. It's either New York or Tampa, as I understand it, that there were a couple teams already in it, or in it beforehand that have not made it through to like the next run of balloting and you basically need a majority so 17 of the 32 votes from the owners and you know that the New York stadium is going to get two of them. At least two. At least two and likely the Patriots because they're you know. They'll be shooting for one cup an hour. Well, no, they'll be voting for the New York stadium. Jake: Well, no, they'll... if the Patriots are smart, and I think the Eagles and the Redskins... Right, and that's why they'd be voting for this one for the New York. The Broncos and Seattle and... Justin: Yeah, the chart... the Browns, I mean, anyone that's like... Cincinnati even, who knows? Probably not, but anyone who's in a... has a halfway decent stadium. the Baltimore Ravens, anyone should be voting for New York to get it because it sort of opens the door for any other team who has a nice stadium or a newer stadium to get the Super Bowl. Jake: And I think to say that that's what's going to be interesting is that let's go ahead and just assume that the Jets have won. We'll be very surprised that they haven't. Jets giants have won. Let's just call it New York. Let's call it the New Yorkers one. If you look at all the pipe and all that, they do all the hype here for the draft. It works out fine. They could set up, you know, they do the New Year's Eve ball drop from Times Square and it's one of the biggest events of the year. Times Square, the ball dropping. They do the marathons. It's not like this town can't handle it. We've got the hotels, we've got the restaurants, we've got everything else. We've got the transportation, we've got the three different airports. I think it's one thing to say we have a $1.7 billion stadium and we want to get it seen on national television and please bring us money. And that, yes, if they sell that. If they get to 2014, it'll make it much easier to sell the naming rights. So I'm all for it because I want my team to make money. My team makes money, money gets to my team, they get to stay.
02 Jake: It's my team for longer in New York City and that makes me happy. But I think will it really open up the... opening up and what could really Foxborough host the Super Bowl. I don't know. I mean, Philadelphia, maybe Baltimore, maybe. I can see that. Can you imagine a Super Bowl in like Lambo? I know they couldn't handle it there. No, they couldn't. Justin: Cool stadium to have the game. Jake: I mean, but again, and I think that's sort of the bad trend of the Super Bowl, the Super Bowl, although becoming more and more popular, which is great. It's becoming less and less about the game and more and more about the event. We've been very lucky in the last, I don't know, three, four years to have really good games. But the actual run up to it is not about the game. And, and, you know, it's a four hour game with you count the extra, you know, BS time, even that right. The, the halftime is doubled and the commercials or whatever. Justin: So at least you watch the commercials though. Like, they're sort of, at least there's something to watch for. Jake: Well, yeah, I mean the commercials have become their own thing. Justin: And there's like commercial show specials before the Super Bowl. And the pregame starts at like what, noon ten in the morning for a 6 o'clock start? Jake: Multiple stations, they do it multiple ways. But again, I could see... ESPN setting up right there in Times Square, you know, ESPN live from Times Square for the Super Bowl. Well, 2014. Here we are. I could see that. I could see them having remote location. The other thing is ESPN is based out of Connecticut. So that makes their life easy. The NFL is they have the ESPN Justin: zone in Times Square, which is where they broadcast some things from. Exactly. Then they have the Jake: then NFL is based out of New York, right? Their headquarters on 280 Park. So, you know, I think there's all the reasons to do it. I'd love for it at least to give it a shot. Justin: Would it also add additional infrastructure to the stadium area or have they already taken care of all that stuff? Jake: I don't think so. I don't think so. And actually that's a good, let's segue into that because that's kind of a good way to move into our next topic which is... Okay. Well, you know, 2014 Super Bowl, we won it. So let's talk about a couple things that have caught on hit in the last three weeks, which is there's been the talk of the very bad B word in New York. So basically the situation is that the... What's the B word? It. Oh, yes, that is right. Well, because we're talking about the new stadium, we're talking about the, you know. So the problem is that they haven't sold out all the tickets, right? They haven't sold out all the PSL tickets. They're starting to do some deals, like there's a deal. If you buy in now for PSLs, I think you get free Free parking for this year if you buy a PSL Justin: Do you get free parking because you already bought one 250 now that's interesting now
00 Jake: I've had a talk with my my good friend at work Ray Ray who you know we talk about these things Justin: Ray is the most popular guest on this entire show and he would never listen to it ever in a million years Jake: It wouldn't even know how Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe! technology and we're pretty much first buyers. We're those idiots out there buying it, standing in line to get the iPhone or the whatever, the iPad. Thank you for calling us idiots. Well, pretty much. Yeah, I agree. That's the thing. For people who buy things the first in, get whatever they're seeking out of buying things first. So for me to buy the iPhone, I like having the new technology. I like that feeling. I like- testing it first, I like being in that crowd. That's just me. For me buying the PSLs was the ability for me to get my seat, to be where I wanted to be, to have more control over that situation. So you know, six months later, well even more than that, seven or eight months later, If someone gets a discount now... because they're getting whatever's left, I can't say, oh, I need that discount. No, I bought eight months ago and the price was X, just like most things. I'm going to disagree with you just because. Justin: Well, you haven't laid out a dollar. I haven't laid out a dollar and I'm going to go to games. But that's awesome. No, but in all reality, I mean, they shouldn't reward people for not. buying they are they're giving they're not rewarded they're not getting better Jake: seats they're getting the see if someone is picking up they could have gotten three months ago but someone was picking up you know much much better seats than me now and getting a discount I'd be like well who's to say seats are seats are Justin: are row better I mean unless you're 50 yard line 30 rows up Choice is better. Choice is better, but I like choices. What's left is essentially the the In the end zone down in the end zone, right? I believe that that's kind of what's left. And Woody wouldn't own up to numbers, but the rumors are that there's about 10,000 seats available. Jake: Something like that, which represents roughly, because remember I think in the old stadium it was like the average season ticket holder had four Let's say that they won't steal that number because of the PSLs. Let's say the average has three something. So at 10,000 that's really only getting, you know, whatever, 3,500 people let's call it to buy in. So, you know, we shouldn't overstate the problem because... It you know, first of all, it's dead season for football. No one's thinking football other than the idiots. Listen, this podcast and us. Why do you have to call our fans idiots?
02 Jake: Now you're twice twice. Three four seven eight five five jets. That's right. Advertise sponsor. You're an idiot. Justin: We will give you a free parking pass. Yeah. Jake: So, I think that, again, I'm not, Woody's come out and he said, listen, I'm not gonna let them be blackouts and I'm not gonna lower the prices. That means- Justin: He won't let it be blacked out. He won't let it be where the prices. He will buy the seats himself. He will buy them himself and give them away. Jake: And once training camp starts and one preseason starts and once he says, they're also giving away tickets like the Bon Jovi. 3 I think that's great. Again, I don't mind, the only thing I don't mind them giving extra stuff on top of it, but I do mind discounts. So if they were to say to the PSL, oh PSL's for the exact same seats that I bought were now 10% less, that I'd be upset with. because That is the value of the seed now getting extra getting something extra or not having to pay interest for for this year and only Having to start paying interest next year. That's fine I mean I you know, I saved for it. I purchased it and it's done So that wouldn't have benefited me anyway, and I'm sure the people who you know bought in could get their things change But you had the option that's why I bought in early because I had the option I also as we discussed in this episode probably a year and a half ago There's also the theory that you can wait until next year when PSLs, when the PSLs have all been sold, the original set, they might go down in value. You might be able to pick up PSLs, let's say someone paid $4,000 for a PSL, they might be $3,000 in two years, right? There's no guarantee that they'll go up. once you buy them for less. Someone who needs to get rid of them. Who sells the food? Justin: Someone who needs cash, I guess. Jake: Who sells a house that's gone down? I mean, everybody sells things because they need the money. So they might have bought in thinking, oh, I got a job or whatever, and then they move out of the state or they move out of the city or they lose their job or... Justin: Explain how that works. So when, as a PSL owner yourself, I'm not, I don't keep up on these things. I just benefit from them. What what uh how does it work so you have three tickets yes in the stadium yes you own them via your psl um you paid let's just say you paid a hundred dollars for the three yeah um just to not not saying exactly where you are rounding down rounding down um so you paid a hundred dollars per ticket for three seats you paid $300 Okay, what? You decide you want to sell that and that is the right to then purchase your three tickets on an ongoing basis Correct. Yes. So you can make a profit on this. Why don't you stop asking? I'll just tell you Jake: What I'm gonna ask. Yes How does it work? Yes, I'm trying to explain to you everyone listen
00 Jake: Let me use hand puppets. So basically in the old stadium you had when you owned season tickets, you basically didn't own anything. You had the ongoing right to buy the same tickets every year. But you didn't own that right. If the in theory, if the Jets or the Giants had said, you know what, this year I'm not giving them to you. I'm going to give them to Bob. And that's all for today. Have a great week. You really had no right to it. So that was the, now the good thing is you didn't buy it, so that's why you didn't have any right to it, and no way in heck were they gonna take it away from you. But you also couldn't sell it. So yes, people did it on the third market, you know, third market, third party market, and yes, that happened, but it wasn't legal, and some teams have really cracked down on it, meaning they won't let you transfer them to other people. people. Meaning if you so let's say I wanted to sell mine to you I'd have to sell them to you keep them in my name bill you yearly have you pay me money like it gets kind of yucky and There's no real market value on them because It was kind of all done under the table. Okay, so long come PSLs And let's not let's not sugarcoated PSLs are a way to make to For owners to raise quick cash to pay off their big expensive stadiums Done, right? Let's not, I'm not defending the fact. That's the truth. The truth is they built a $1.7 billion stadium. They need to make back the money because they're both not going to shell out $800 million, right? They took loans from the NFL for $350 a piece that are due back like in three years, so they got to make back the money. Hopefully the fans benefit from a better stadium. Okay, so now PSL's come along. I now have the, I'm now buying one time fee to buy in and own the right to those seats. Now of course it doesn't mean I have the right to everything that ever happens in that stadium clearly. It's not concerts, it's not both the Jets and Giants, it's just the Jets PSLs. So, now I do own those. I pay one time fee. I now have the right to buy them every year, right? And once I've paid my, and if I default on the season tickets, yes, I can lose the PSLs. I mean, there's all that great literature in there. But now there is a given price for the PSL. I paid my $100 per seat. Let's call it $1,000 per seat because that A doesn't exist and $100 is in town like a lot, and they're much more than $100 since they started at four. They're now starting at three, aren't they? Justin: No, they have not marked down eight feet. They didn't mark them down. No. Jake: And this is what I've been saying all along. One of the things I think that the jets messed up with is they should have made the tiers start at like $500 and then go up to $20,000 in increments, not have these big, big waterfalls of zero, which is the upper levels, to four. It's like they shouldn't have had zero to four. They should have had . A 500, a 1,000, a 1,500, a 2,500. And then people would have thought, well, I can afford 2,500, but I can't afford 4,000.
01 Jake: Or I can afford 3,000, but maybe not 10. But people deciding between 0 and 4, it's kind of like, oh, well, that's a big jump. Let me go for 0. 0. Anywho, so now I own the light and yes, now there's a price, right? It's $1,000 per seat. I want to say $4,000, so that's the basis we're giving this away. It's not hiding anything. The numbers are on the websites. So it's $4,000 per seat and you have the right to sell them. So next year, and the only thing is you have to wait until you've paid for them, right? I can't sell them before I've paid for them. So And I have paid from so once I paid for I could sell them I could sell them to you I could turn on tomorrow and say okay You buy them and whatever the market value there's websites up there that track the market value that you that you know It's like PSL stadium calm or there's a couple of these and you could go list them and sell them for a value There's a probably a transfer fee like a $50 per ticket type of thing that the end that the Jets get But in essence I'm gonna anybody else and get value But, and this is where this podcast just got long, unlike, this is the way I talk about investments. Well investments, if I buy some Apple stock, yes, it can go down to zero at some point, but in theory it's going to go up and up and up and up. And as long as Apple stays a viable company, you know, I'll make money. me. Buying a PSL while it's great. You know, it's also going to end because stadiums don't last forever and the PSL is only viable for that stadium. So when they, so when they, well that seat in that stadium closes, do you just get that Justin: seat? They should just give you the seat. Jake: Well, remember it's owned by two people. Justin: Put it in half. You're gonna get the top thing at the point. Jake: So that's the point, is that while it's not It might be a short-term investment, meaning five to ten years, and certainly if the Jets were to win the Super Bowl in three years, my PSLs would definitely go up, right? You're not selling them. Right, well, that would, but I'm just saying, they would have a value, right, and I could sell them. But in 20, in 25, in 30, in 35 years, the stadium's now going to be 35 years old. Now, I think the metal ends lasted 36, maybe 34, 35, 36, I don't know which one. And you know, some stadiums have lasted much longer, but in general stadiums seem to last around 35 years. So you have to think towards the end of the life of the stadium, the value of your PSL goes down. So, while they're 4,000 now, and they might be 10,000 in 5 years, it might be 10 at 15,000 in 15 years in 20 years they're gonna come back down and then 35 years they might be worth 200 bucks because There might only be two more years left make sense Wow Justin: Way too much. Yeah. Well, it makes sense. It does. I I can't say I totally agree with it, but Agree with the theory or agree with just the process of doing it? The notion of making someone pay for something to then have the right to pay for more things.
08 Jake: But here's the way to think about it, to get your head around it. And for everybody out there who's struggling with this too... Football is an entertainment industry. Tickets, concert tickets, tickets to Broadway, tickets to movies. Movies are now $13 in a city. I think a year ago when we were talking about this they were 11. Like it's inelastic as the prices will just go up because people will continue to pay them. Justin: It's went up. Like yes, you're already paying like like your your your entertainment theory I get it But it's not as if I paid my PSL. So now I get to go no No, the point is a expensive hobby. It's an expensive hobby Jake: Okay this weekend we went and had we went and played around on the golf course My wife was talking about playing golf and one of the things I said to her was golf's expensive It's very expensive. And I'll tell you, if you look at the price of golf, golf clubs, golf balls, golf memberships, T times, whatever, I will tell you that the graph starts at one side and then goes up to the other side. It's an entertainment. It's not a necessity. The price of milk has stayed flat. The price of entertainment is always going to go up. And the NFL. in many other markets has gone way up while the tickets of Jets and Giants seats have stayed way low. In fact, they've been artificially kept low because of the old stadium and because of the ownership of the stadium wasn't owned by the teams and etc. etc. In some ways, you could say that people were in that the stadium last year was the last year of rent control on the stadium. because people were still paying low prices for something that had a market value of much higher. So I know it's not popular, I know people take this very personally, but it's not personal. It's business, it's entertainment, and if you've been spending one person posts online a lot talking about, you know, look at the amount of money that you've put into the jets over the last 10 years. Have you been a fan? Wherever long you've been. 10 years, 20 years. Look at all the money. Games, tickets, tolls, parking, jerseys, entertainment packages, travel, thousands and thousands of dollars, maybe tens of thousands, maybe twenty thousand dollars if you're a season ticket holder. You're an idiot, right? It's a lot of money to spend on something that you can stay at home and watch every single day. So you don't have to spend a dime for other than your cable. So why do you do it? Well that's the whole point. Season ticket holding is not a right, it's not milk, it's not a thing, it's an entertainment. And if you can afford it and you don't go into hawker, sell your kid's kidneys and you love to do it, do it. But it's not something that everybody in the world has the right to or that some company shouldn't raise the prices because it's not fair. Hey, it's an entertainment company. And if it goes too high and no one will pay it, then they'll come back down.
01 Jake: The market will dictate it. Have the Giants sold out? I don't think they have. They certainly had a much, you know, the story originally was they had 110,000 people on their waiting list and went through the mall and the Jets had something like, I think it was 10,000 people on their waiting list and went through the mall. So I'm sure the Giants are in a much better position. They're a better team. They just won the Super Bowl a couple years ago. They traditionally have done better. They're a bigger market in this market. The Jets don't have as many fans, and the Jets have had more ups and downs. Definitely the Giants should have less problems. I also think the Giants did a smarter thing by not making the uppers free. They made them, they started $1,000. I think they went $1,000, then $1,500, then $2,000, then $4,500. Which I think was just much smarter. I know that Woody was trying to make a kind of like look, I'm making the fans, I'm making the fans are getting a free PSLs. But reality is that all it did is it shifted the cost from those uppers to other people. Because in the end of the day, Woody has to recover the same, recover the same amount of money that the Maras do. and if the Mars have to recover 300 million dollars then Woody has to recover 300 million dollars so he's going to put more money on different sections and that's what he tried to do and in some ways it worked but in other ways it failed miserably. So I wish they'd just spread it out just like theater tickets or concert tickets. There might be 17 different versions. You know there's the 12 dollar tickets, the 15 dollars, the 17 that goes right up to the 300 dollar tickets. Then you could buy in wherever you wanted if they had started them at the worst seats in the house for 500 and went up To 20 and then there was a variation in between I think it would have been much easier for people to jump in at different levels Because everybody who goes to Jets games can afford $1,000 a year if you can't shouldn't go in just games You should be buying food or saving your money Because thousand dollars, you know for someone who's been a season ticket holder you're spending $3,000 a year and tickets anyway, so Anyway, alright, so that's that. I don't think this is going to be blackouts. I'm not a fan of PSLs, but I understand them. It's entertainment. I can't afford it now. If I can't afford it, it would be, listen, if it was, if it came time for me to cut back in my life, it would be the first thing to go. I would definitely give it up because it's certainly just an absolute... you know, luxurious expense. Other than a car, it's like the second in New York City. And you know, I'd give it up, and I'd buy a bigger TV at home, and watch it on HD, and have many free beers, or cheap beers. All right, so let's talk about a couple of other things. Well, you can talk about your markets being cut. Ah, I think we kind of discussed this. Like, was you going to get cut? He got cut he's now one of the biggest jokes of the draft ever it's just it's just funny cuz you know, I don't think I Justin: Don't know if he if he would have been drafted by not the Raiders could he have been?
04 Justin: Okay now Cuz he has like, a physical tool. He got huge arm. The Raiders are just the worst. So it's like It's just funny to see another number one overall pick quarterback. I don't understand why number one overall picks have to be quarterbacks. Because half the time they don't work out anyway. So why not pick like a position that is more stable? I guess there's the you know you could always end up with a Peyton Manning. But he was like a very short thing. And Jamarcus Russell really wasn't. when he was coming out. I don't think this Sam Bradford is going to be anything special, Jake: to be honest. I think it'll be another bust. Yeah, it's hard to be that big of a bust. You can be a bust like you're just not great and you're okay, but then you can be a bust of like you just really, really, really stunk. It starts from his off-field stuff, his work ethic, I'm showing up way overly. I feel bad for a kid in some ways because to be that young and to be given that much money, it's a huge amount of responsibility. I don't think, if someone gave me, when I was 21 years old, someone gave me $30 million guaranteed, what would I have done? I don't know. Maybe I would have just said, F you, I'm going to do nothing. But he's certainly up there in the story lines of the Ryan Leifs for... Probably I think will be known as the worst cuz even Ryan Lee went from team to team and he tried things and maybe had a Little bit of success But this guy just failed and failed and then failed again and that game that I watched Intently last year as we played them was like and shut them out was just stunning how bad he was big huge guy huge arm just couldn't get it done. And then we have the new, well, a couple other things. Sanchez, it looks like Sanchez's rehab is looking good. That's great. I don't know if there's really anything to discuss it. Do you have any thoughts on it other than? Justin: Supposedly he's on his way back, so good. Strength of that knee up, you know? Jake: Yeah, I cannot wait. Actually, I tweeted that defensive video or highlights from last year. awesome you get a chance go look at that it's really really good it's done to some you know music and whatever and it gets you all pumped up and the last thing is we're talking about they're voting another thing on the owners meetings they're voting on the Justin: oh wait we got the the revus extension oh revus extension you know what bottom line sign the guy Jake: whatever it was just but there was a story that he wanted twenty million he doesn't Justin: want twenty million he doesn't want to just make him the highest paid corner and that's that Jake: And they probably will and it will be worth it because he is worth it at this point. I mean don't sell the world but you know. Well, Tom is we have a lot of people to sign. We got Mangold, we got Revas. Justin: Whoever is the highest paid cornerback in the league, look at their contract and make sure Revas gets a little more and that's that.
00 Jake: You want to make him the highest paid player? At corner or corner. OK, well, it's got to be it's got to be the guy Clemens. Justin: No, I think Nnamdi. No, Nnamdi was a rookie. No, he got a huge extension. Like makes like 15 million dollars a year. So give us a little bit more than that. And then, yes, you're right. There's other guys like Harris and Mangold and D brick that are coming up. But you know, that's that's the nature of football. You know, it's a year by year thing. You can't build a dynasty anymore, unfortunately. It's too bad you can't do it like like the NBA has like the the bird rule, the Larry Bird rule, where you can go over the cap if you if to resign your own guys. Oh, like you can't go out and get guys and go over the cap. But like. The cap is soft in the way because if you have drafted well and have developed your own players, you can re-sign them to whatever you want. As long as you can pay them, obviously. I wish we could do that because we have some really young guys that we've drafted and developed like Harris Mangle, D-Brick, etc. Who are gonna need to get paid. Jake: So yeah, he Nnamdi awesome. Ah makes 15.2 million a year. So there you go. 16. Yeah, that's a teen. There you go runners 16 million a year. That's nothing a million dollars a game done and we're done And then the last thing we had on the agenda to talk about was the overtime rules. They're actually voting on the overtime rules for to make the same rule that they did with the playoffs, which is that you can't win by you can't be win by your first field goal. No, that wasn't in effect this year. That's when they that's the one they just put into effect for next year. for next year, right? Right, but they're voting now to make this for the regular season. They should, it shouldn't just be for the playoffs. Yeah, I think having rules that are just the playoffs is stupid, right? The game is the game, you can't be, oh, you know, in the playoffs, it's five downs. Yeah, in the playoffs. And 11 yards. Yeah, it's actually 20-minute quarters. No, the game is the game. It's either this... I don't care what they do to it, but they have to make it the same in both because I don't want to be going into the playoffs thinking, well, now we got to get our new kickers ready or we don't have to kick or I don't know, it just doesn't make sense. Justin: So what's the rule exactly? You can't win by your first field goal? So if you kick a field goal to make to go up three, you haven't won the game yet. Jake: Right. If they go and they kick a field goal, then it's that's keeps going. And then you can win. Then you can get a little win. I like that rule. That's good. Oh, I hate. I hate. I hate the whole thing. No, don't make the game any longer than it is. I don't like the sudden death. Justin: I don't like the the thing that the team. If they lose a coin toss might not be able to touch the ball Jake: I just don't I don't then if I agree if that if there were no other players on the field if the offense got out
05 Jake: There no defense was allowed on the field great, but you got other guys on the field to stop them Justin: I don't know. It's like I actually like the way college does it personally. I think they should just copy that Jake: I actually I like sudden death. I think it adds a real big, you know, thing to it. Yes, there's a stat that it's becoming more and more players. It's not that they actually win with the first possession, it's that they they win that it goes a couple of sessions. But the team who actually started with the ball ends up winning. But it's not that they win with the first possession. So it's kind of misleading. I actually like the sudden death. I don't think it's going to change the game that much. It might change two games a year. Okay, whatever I mean, you know two out of 17 times or 16 times 32 It's not a big, you know amount of games that it's gonna change I don't think it's gonna change the way people draft. I don't think this pay change the way people play defense I think it's just gonna change I Mean, I don't you know, maybe the last two seconds of a game Maybe I want to win now because I can't that doesn't make sense So, you know, I don't as long as it doesn't change the game too much. I don't I don't really care Justin: But that's a big for some fun decisions in overtime though like if a team kicks a field goal Right, right and then you have it. It's fourth and three on your opponent's 38 Like do you try to kick that field goal right there? It's like a 60 yard field goal sort of 58 59 year field goal or go for it for Jake: But isn't it the same that it wasn't over? It's just fun. But with sudden death, it's the same thing with sudden death. No, it's not. Justin: Because if you make the field goal, then you're tied. If you miss the field goal, you lost. It's not like you give the team the ball there. All right, the Jets are playing the Bills. Jake: I don't know if you lose at that point. I think they- Justin: You lose? Well, here, the Jets are playing the Bills, right? Yeah. In the playoffs? No. Okay. In the regular season- The bills wouldn't be in the play-offs. Let's just say, for example, the Jets are playing the Bills in the regular season, this rule is passed. Well, yes, that's true. Week 17. We go to overtime. Week 17, yeah. Week 17. We go to overtime. Players are on the line. They win the toss. They go down. They kick a field goal. they're winning by three. Okay, just get the ball back. They're driving. They stall fourth and three at the bills 38. Yep. You now have the chance to kick a 56 yard field goal to tie the game and extend it or you go for it fourth and three is you got a 58 yard field goal. What do you do? Jake: You know a little scenario you go for it in fourth and three you don't try to kick a 50 anything in the state in that stadium Justin: All right, it's a 48 yard field ball. What do you do? Jake: One fourth and three fourth and three from those 28 next year's running backs next year's running backs next year's kicker
00 Jake: Oh, go for it. You don't kick it. Justin: It's fun, that's a fun little scenario. But I think it's the same thing if you're in sudden death. No it's not, cause you wouldn't even have the ball. And if you had the ball and you missed the field goal, okay you missed the field goal, the defense comes on the field. Jake: Yeah I guess, that's true. Yeah, it's fun. It's a little it's it adds whatever. Okay fine Just make it for the whole whole games games and I just but I I also just there's a point of which I Like that the NFL tinkers with things but then a certain point I feel like okay stop tinkering like don't try to do more games But you know, there's a point of which you can over analyze something. It's the most successful sport in the country don't mess with it like you know don't mess with it just just i'll take i'll take an 18 game season uh no i don't want i don't want to go any later i don't want to go into like start earlier i'll take it no can't start early because of uh school they'll never start earlier ever They start based on work and Labor Day weekend. Justin: That's ridiculous. Jake: No, look at the schedule. It's based on Labor Day weekend. Justin: That's stupid. Jake: No. I don't mind, to be honest, January 3rd or January 13th doesn't really matter that much. I just don't think they should expect it. Just cut the week in between the Super Bowl. You don't need two weeks for that shit. You could probably do that you could probably do that But then they they had that you know the the oh the pro bowl that like no one plays in who cares I know but it was the most successful pro bowl ever because people watched it cuz no one watched it Give me a break.
