16 Jake: This is the Jet Kingdom Podcast for September 3rd, 2008, episode number 30. Bold prediction. As always getting ready for the season on this side of the digital aisle, it's Jake. And on the other side, as always, kicking off our second season of the podcast, episode number 30. Justin: It's my main man Justin. Wow, what an intro. I think that was the best introduction I've ever gotten in my entire life. Jake: It's our 30th episode. You can't, you know... Wow, really? Yeah, you gotta bring it to our 30th episode. Wow, that's pretty good. 30th episode. It's not bad. It's better than a kick in the ass. That's all I'm saying. Justin: Yeah, especially if that kick in the ass happens to crush a nut or two. That would suck. Jake: I've heard that expression. It's not a pleasant one. So we have a ton of stuff to go over in this podcast, a ton of stuff to talk about. We are just for you listening out there, a little preview of what's going to go on. We are going to talk a little bit about the Jets, Giants, preseason game. We are going to completely ignore the fourth preseason game. We're going to talk a and then we're going to get into our predictions for the Jets game by game that we're going to talk about the predictions for the AFC East, not game by game, but by season. And then we're going to talk about this week's predictions because you know what Justin as of tomorrow at this time. what Thursday at 18 p.m. You know what's gonna be happening? Justin: Yeah, there's a kickoff tomorrow. There's gonna be football tomorrow. Real football. Wonderful, wonderful time of the year. Jake: Not preseason football, not crappy, you know, whatever, real football. This will be a great, great time. So let's kick it off. So let's talk a little bit about that game. the game that was up two weeks ago, it was the last chance for the Jets to take a look at what Fars got still with the rocket in the in his arm there. It was fun. It was a lot of fun. Yeah, you actually happened to be at the game, I think. Justin: I happened to be there. It was it was a fun game. It was actually, you know, I said it's fun. It was fun to be there. because it was Giants, Jets and and it was just fun to see far and fun to see the guys back on the field. It wasn't that fun of a game like there was no real scoring going on. I hesitate to call it a defensive struggle. It's more of a preseason game. And then, you know, it was just it was fun to see. I actually went back and.
01 Justin: Uncharacteristically, I watched the game on television and you know, I say uncharacteristically because it was a preseason game And I don't generally pay too much attention to them but I did go back and watch it on TV and there were a couple of You know glaring things that that that I saw number one for me our offensive line at least what I saw in the preseason is a hell of a lot nastier than they ever were over the last two or three years. They are nasty. They are going to actually come out and hurt people this year. And they did. They hurt OCU Manora because D-Brick literally threw him to the ground. Jake: Yeah, out for the season, by the way. You did text me later, and you did say, a By the way, we made that prediction a couple weeks ago. And it's not a bold prediction to say someone's going to get hurt. But I guess the prediction was someone seriously is going to get hurt. And that's going to be a very bad thing for one of these teams. I think we hoped and prayed it wouldn't be the Jets. Our hopes and prayers came true. Justin: It tends to go back and forth. It kind of goes back and forth. Next time, it'll be one of our guys. Like next year, you know, like, you know, Kottry's ankle. You know. breaking three pieces, you know, but it always seems to happen in this game where a major player or cog in the wheel gets injured and it's sad to see because it's really meaningless. These two teams should not play each other in that third game because that's the game that people actually play. And I mean... You know those two teams it's it's a rivalry and they shouldn't have a rivalry game in the preseason Jake: I mean he gets it gets kind of that we've talked about that for sure. I'm going to be deep into it I'll say yeah, it was a fun game. I mean a 10-7 game Not too much of an exciting, you know exciting event. I certainly wasn't the explosive offense on our side or their side a couple couple big takeaways for me. I thought our offensive line did a pretty good job. I think our running game still looks a little bit vanilla. And I think the preseason hope is always, oh, well, it's vanilla because they have to keep it vanilla. I'm hoping that the offensive line that looks nasty will actually shh. Makes makes our running game a little bit better You know just Thomas Jones goes out there and takes it for six six times for 11 yards I'm not you know, I think he sucks. I have completely jumped off the bandwagon on him. I think he sucks Justin: Yeah, I was you know past his past his prime and even when he was in his prime I still don't think he was that good. I think I oooh'd an out over him last year a little too much, just judging off of what he had done the previous season or two. I mean, if you look back over his career, I mean, he hasn't had great numbers over the course of his career. And I have the feeling that he's just...
00 Justin: Not as good as we kind of thought he was going to be. Yeah. You know, I'm actually looking at his statistics now. He's he's been in the league now. This is like his ninth year or his eighth year, ninth year in the league. He's only gone over a thousand yards three times, one of which was last year, which, you know, shows how crappy that stat is, because he had a really bad year and he went over a thousand yards and. He only scored one touchdown, which is quite pathetic for running back. I'm through with him I want to see the ball in Leon Washington's hands Well, you know and when your buddy comes back from abusing steroids Your buddy being Jesse Chapman Maybe give him the ball a couple times, but I want to see Thomas Jones phased out of the offense to be honest Jake: The thing that wasn't the impressive thing was the defense. The impressive thing I thought was the defense. I mean, okay, it's preseason, okay, it's the New York Giants, it's been preseason, okay. But when you sack a team eight times in a game, yeah, that was good. You gotta put a little pat on the back. You gotta say, hey, little pat. They sacked us once or twice, I think. And we sacked them in times. So I'm going to give us, you know, maybe it was later in the game. Maybe it wasn't. But we were getting to them. And I thought that was good. I like to see. Justin: Do you know who's awesome? David Harris. Oh, yeah. Oh, my God. News flash. Jake: Hey, listen, welcome to 2007. David. Oh, you know what? Justin: You know what? This guy is going to be something. He is special. He was everywhere. He had two sacks. I think Calvin Pace had two sacks. Yeah. Yeah. A guy who's been kind of lost in the preseason is Colston. I haven't seen him do much of anything. And to be honest, I don't know if he's going to do anything. Jake: I think he's being asked to step out of a comfort zone. And you can see in the two games, we haven't talked about the Giants and the Philadelphia Eagle game. He did. He looks a little lost. He looks a little, I don't want to say slow, but. That's it. He looks a little slow. He looks like he's making too much, you know, he's thinking too much. I know that's a lot of people writing, but it's like he's not instinctively going to the ball. He's kind of having to think about it in that half millisecond, whatever is making him kind of on the wrong side of it. So... You know what's interesting? Justin: Victor Hobson got cut by the Pats. Jake: Yeah. They got all these things. Justin: Yeah. I mean, I feel like they signed him just to just to squeeze his brain. Jake: Well, they did the same thing with, I mean, apparently we do it too. I don't know. Everyone does it. But do you think it's real? Do you think you really go in there and they're like... No, I don't. Give me the playbook? I mean, come on. Justin: No, I don't think it's real. But in the case of, you know, a Chad Pennington in Miami, I think, yeah, it could be. It could be real in saying, Chad, at least give us some insight into what they look to do against us on offense. You've been there for the last bunch of years and you know.
02 Jake: True, but the game plan, and we'll get to our picks later, but the game plan when Chad was behind center and the game plan went far behind center. So yeah, so what are you going to say? Oh yeah, you know what the Jets like to do when I was playing? A little dunking, a little dinking dunk. Justin: He also knows the Jets defense. as well. He also knows the coaching staff. But aside from that, going back to to Hobson, I found it interesting because I thought he was fairly decent of a player and I thought that they signed him to really play. And they end up cutting him, which means he either they weren't ever serious about him. where he really dropped off or he wasn't as good as we really kind of thought he was you know maybe we'll be better this year without him yeah it's one of the three yeah that's true it's maybe we'll sign him back just to understand what the pats are doing on defense hey can you come Jake: back he knows our system just for a little bit um a couple weeks yeah when you get rid of someone You gotta say goodbye. You know why the reasons and it's always there's always what we think is going on and there's probably always the truth Which is somewhere somewhere else out there? But so that was the game again, it's not too much It wasn't a fascinating game I think far if we have to get to the far of talk because it's always gonna be a far of talk for at least a while uh you know he looked good he he took a couple hits and he got up from him that's good like to see that he didn't play in the last game which uh you know it's always kind of one of those should he play because he needs more experience uh i'm gonna go with no on the experience how about no yeah i'm gonna go with i want far to be rested um yeah you know that streak he has of Justin: games played. you know, started in a row, 200 and I don't know, 60 or something. Jake: You better have to learn because now he's he's a jet. So that's I think, you know, my guess to 30. Justin: My guess is to 60. Jake: I think it's to 38. Justin: But any who, you're probably right. Let's you know what? Let's go to the Internet. I'll figure it out. Jake: Oh, you just you think about it for a second. And let me think. Hold on. Justin: I can calculate it in my head. Jake: Yeah, you calculate it. Let's not hear the the key the keys clicking. All right, that was the game clicking. You know, they were they were good. I just one little side thing is that they are talking the talk of of of taking that eighth of taking the fourth preseason game and doing away with it and moving into the regular season is starting up again. So, they're saying that that might get done by 2010. Interesting, interesting, interesting. Let me just talk one more thing because it does have to be mentioned before we get into our AFC East 2008 thrown picks and talk about the Jets season. In 2008, we're going to predict every game. A little bit about the PSLs because the PSL information came out while we were away or not talking. Thank you for watching. And, you know, we talked a lot about the giants and how they handled it.
02 Jake: Basically, their plan is to allow every person in a current seat is going to get kind of like, okay, if you want to buy into your current seat, no matter what, here's what it's going to cost. Okay, here's what it's going to cost. And so you pay that. Okay. So, what that does is it kind of puts everybody at the same level, keeps people in their same seating areas. But for people who are in the lower areas, who've been there for a long time, they're going to have to pony up to the $20,000 per seat PSL. For the people in the uppers, they're going to be at $1,000 per seat. But there won't be a lot of movement. Well, there'll probably be movement when people can't pay the price being lower. So, it's kind of, it's more fair to everybody. But maybe less fit, you know, overall, but less fair maybe to the people who have been there for longer or in seats that they can't pay for in the future. The Jets went ahead and did what, you know, a lot of people were saying is a great thing, which is they said zero PSL on the uppers. We're going to auction off the middles, the very bottom coaches club to make a lot of money. And then, you know, we're going to split up the PSLs between the lowers and the middles. . I love that. But there's no top PSL for the uppers. And really, there's no seat assignments. It's the seniority based. You're the oldest person in the book since 1977. We're going to contact you. We're going to say, here's your options. You pick your top three options and we will seat you. So. What that does is the people who are, uh, who have been around for the longest are going to have their choice. Now they can choose to go stay in the lowers and pay the PSL. They can stay, they go to the, the middle area and pay the lesser PSL, you know, it's like 20, 15, 10, five, four, and then zero at the top, or they can be seated up top and get some of the best seats. Um, but pay zero PSL, uh, a little bit more per week, right? It's a little bit more per week, but you don't pay the thousand. Now here's the deal. For the seniority side of it, it's a very good thing, right? Seniority rules. You've been there, you've been shelling out whatever it is for 30 something years. 30 something years, you're going to get a good seat. If it's on the, you know, where you were, well, where you were doesn't matter anymore because if you, you might've been on the top and now you're going to go to the bottom. Thank you. Anyway, for me personally, I'm a 2004, I called up and asked, and basically that means at some point they're going to approach me and give me some offer. What the offer might be is somewhere in the uppers and yay, I get to pick zero PSL seats and maybe stay in a similar type section, similar type views, or they might say, hey, we have left. 20,000 PSLs. If that's what you want, you get them. If you don't want them, see ya. So, I don't know what's going to happen. I don't want to get too much into it because because let's get into it when the season's getting boring or maybe the after the season, Justin: when the action news comes out. Excuse me, season boring? Yeah. Anyway. Universe are you living in at the, by the way? Yeah. F.A.R.V.E. 275.
05 Jake: 275 is that bigger season? It's active. Justin: Yeah, that's this. That's the record. It's currently stands at 275. Nice. The only person that has even a chance is Manning, who really this is amazing. He has in his 10 year career, started 160 consecutive regular season games, I know, which is actually pretty outstanding. Jake: So he has another however many years to go to catch up. I'll go on 10 more. Yeah. So let's first of all. So now we're going to kick into the predictions. We're going to put game by game for the 2008 season for the Jets. I'm ready. Let's first look at what we did last year. I don't think you ever write yours down because you're a bit of a loser. I wrote mine down. Here's what happened. I predicted that the Patriots would go 11 and 5. Well, they went 16 and 0, so I would say that's pretty damn off. Justin: Oh, I actually remember what I said for the pass. It was 13 and 3. Jake: Okay. So you were off too. Um, less off than me. I predicted 9 and 7 for the Jets, who went 4 and 12. Justin: I had us at 10 and 6, I think. Jake: Yeah, really bad. I predicted 79 for the Dolphins, who went to the 1 and 15 that we're all very familiar with. Justin: I had them really low, actually. I think I had the Dolphins at 3 wins. Jake: Again, since you didn't write it down, I'm not taking work for it. Justin: I had the bills at six wins too. Six and ten. Jake: I had the bills for eight and eight and they went seven to nine. So I feel like that's my recovery point. Interesting, the bills have gone seven to nine in the last two years. Justin: Hey, can you write mine down this year? Jake: Sure. Yes, because I'm sure there's no way in the the world you could figure out how I write them down. Justin: I don't know how to write. Jake: All right. Let's take it. Let's go. Game, game, game. Should we say... Should we say no, let's let's go game by game and then at the end we'll say what the the number is the the number eight All right. All right, let's talk about it week one dolphins Jets dolphins want to know Want to know the uh, you think the uh jets are going to win that game. I believe they will even with the chat It does not matter. Okay, we're going to talk about that game in a bit. So let's let's let's go week two Opening, home opener, Patriots come to town. Justin: One and one. Yeah, I agree. Jake: One and one. We're not. I agree with the Dolphins, too. We're winning against the Dolphins in the Chad. I think that the Patriots come in town is never a good thing. If we have a chance to beat the Patriots, it's probably when we go up to see them. Week three, Chargers. Justin: Yeah, this is a Monday night game on the West Coast. Really interesting matchup. I think we're going to beat them. I don't think San Diego is going to be as good as people think they are. I think we have a little bit of this edge over San Diego for some reason. I think ever since we beat them in that playoff game, I think we've beaten them and played them close ever since. And I think we're going to actually win this one.
00 Justin: Surprise! Two and one. Jake: Two and one. I totally agree. I think this is a Monday night comeback for a Farver. He comes back on the Monday night, and it's a big story and does really well. I'm calling it. It's a win. Coming back, then we got the Cardinals at home. Justin: Yeah. Jake: Kurt Warner starts up the Cardinals this year, Justin: as Matt Meinert is no longer the starting quarterback. All right. I know that's so odd. I don't even know what to think of Arizona. You know, I want to just call this a slam dunk win, but just because I said we'd be 2-2 going into the buy, I'm actually gonna have us losing this game. Jake: Okay, good. I'm gonna have it winning. I'm going in at 3-1 in the buy. Then we come out of the buy to the Bengals. Justin: Alright, I I love us coming out of the bye just looking at the schedule You know not to jump too far ahead since we are going get my game It'll look we look really good coming out of the bye. I think we're gonna beat up on the Bengals at home Coming out of the bio give us a three and two record three and two Jake: I will concur three and two because I think we lose this game I don't think I just I don't like the Bengals we don't play them. Well, there's something about them That always seems to get us You know, it's their team that can put up points, you know, we might be able to points but we'll be a shootout I think in a shootout we won't do too well and we might get a little rusty after the bye Justin: Then we head over to the Raiders. Yeah, I think we're gonna put a hurting on them, too I think they are probably one of the bottom three teams in the league, maybe. Jake: I'll give you bottom bottom five. Yeah. Rookie quarterback. They're pretty bad. Justin: Yeah. They don't have anything going on. Jake: I just don't know who he's going to throw to. I don't know who's going to protect him. I just don't know. Just the whole thing just seems like this way to announce. Justin: I like just winning this one. I like to say four and two. Jake: 4 and 2 agreed. Then we get return of the Herm part 2. Justin: Speaking of this back to back here at Oakland vs Kansas City, I mean these two teams are, like you said, bottom 5. They're right there. These two teams suck. We're gonna beat. both of them. So we'll be Kansas City pretty handily. Jake: I would say all the games we played, this is a game that I think that is just the weakest. I don't see where they have any strength. But maybe, anyway, I see us winning that one. So yeah, so now what we're at, five and two? We're at five and two, both of us. Five and two, right. I'm not saying five and two, both of us. Going to the Bills. Going to the Bills. This is the Bills. This is that away away at the bills at the bills. What are you saying? Justin: We usually win in Buffalo So I I know this crazy I like I said though I love our schedule coming out of the pie and I'm gonna have us winning in Buffalo It's it's still early November. It's not gonna be that windy and cold Jake: Yeah, I don't like this. I don't like us in Buffalo.
01 Jake: I think we do win there, but I think we'll flip-flop these games. We'll probably lose there, but we'll win back at home. I also don't like us, you know, as I looked down the list, I was like, win, win, win. I don't see a five-game winning streak in there, so I think it's going to be a letdown. It's going to be the Bills. Of course you do. So I think we lose that game. And then we head on to the Rams, Rams come to town. Justin: I was beating them too. I really I mean this is such a weak schedule between the Rams the Raiders in Kansas City Those teams are terrible So I was beating the Rams as well So at that point What do I have us at three four five six seven and two? Jake: If we were 7-2 any time there was season 2, I might just follow her to faint. Justin: Well, after week 9 you might have to follow her. Jake: I would say Rams definitely will get the Rams, definitely will get the winning of the Rams. I mean, Steven Jackson's back, but you know the thing about when you re-sign a big running back to a lot of money, generally just don't produce that next year. I mean you look at Sean Alexander if you look at uh... and james if you look at uh... he had a bad season last year to he didn't even have a very good season so i just i don't i don't see it i don't see them being a dominating force this year then the big i'd say probably the super bowl of the regular season for the jets it's the thursday night game it's the first thursday night i think of the of the thursday night game season uh... you know the start of those thursday night games it's at the patriots It's a biggie. What do you see there? We're rolling. We're eight and two. We're going to win in New England this year. I would love to. I think we can. I think with the wet. I mean, last year, I think we had a chance to do it if we didn't lose our quarterback within the first, I don't know, snap of the game. So I think this is a chance. And we kept it in there. We always play them tough. I think we can get them. I think we can split with the Patriots this year. I'm calling it a win. in. Then the Titans. You're just following me. Justin: You're following me. I actually won. This is actually let. It's a let. It's a let down game right here. You know, we're at eight and two. We're going to have 10 days. It's a long stretch. We're going to lose this game at Tennessee. Jake: We're going to drop to eight and three. Yeah, I have a sleuth in this game, so that's one more loss on my side. But yeah, I agree. It's huge coming off the Patriot win. They get the let down. I think the Titans are a team that, I don't know, they're just unknown. But they too play us tough in the last couple of years. So I see us sleuth in that game. Then the Broncos. Justin: those bounce back big win with four weeks left Five weeks left, you're looking towards the playoffs at this point. Playing against an AFC division or an AFC conference team, you want to beat them obviously.
02 Justin: So at this point we are going to 9 and 3. Jake: Nice! I call this a win as well. Broncos are much easier to beat at home. I think we can take out the Broncos when they come down then the 49ers So one of our again back and forth back and forth back and forth now, we're back to the 49ers. What do you see there? Justin: This is a victory who knows who they'll be playing at quarterback at this point in the season This is a victorious victory which puts it's at on my watch 10 and 3 which is pretty damn special put a wind Jake: in the calm we have the 49ers only thing you can get us there is a bunch of jet lag so I'm gonna call it I'm gonna call it a win then we come back and play the Justin: bills at home yeah this is actually where I'm gonna call a loss right where I think they're gonna split but I always like us in Buffalo and like Buffalo in New York So I'm actually going to call this a loss and put us at 10 and 4. Jake: I'm going to call this a win. I think we split the other way around. I think this year we win at home. This is going to be a big home advantage this year. Very loud crowd. Very rambunctious. I think we win at home. Thank you. in December. Then we head over back. Geez. I hope everybody's got their airline miles. Justin: Back to the Seahawks. Yeah, this is where this is where this is a big game on my tally. This is where I hinge from. I think we're sweeping Miami and jumping ahead. But this is this is a hinge game where we go from 11 and five to 12 and four, which is a big jump. I'm actually going to have us. I'm going to have us winning this game and getting to 11 and four clinching a playoff position in that week right there. Yeah. On the road. And then. Yeah, I like I said 11 and 4 right there clinching a playoff spot And then the week after going home to play for a home game Jake: I do not like playing in the cold on the road against the Seahawks in Seattle. It's a loss You know that whether out there could be insane I think will be on the road to a on the road to a playoffs And so I think it'll be kind of like one of those just I don't know, just too much traveling, too much. I see that we lost to Seahawks. And then we come back to the Doll fans. Justin: Sweep, sweep, sweep, 12 and 4. 12 and 4. Jake: That would be the last game of the season. It would also be, if we swept them this year, it would also be the third year straight that we swept them. I love sweeping them. But I do think it'll be the only way I can see us not saving this if we're arresting our players Justin: Well, that's that's the thing. We may have clinched the playoffs I mean, you don't have the division so you might have a home game but not a buy or anything
03 Jake: Yeah, so that is it. So you're calling the season at four and I'm calling it 11 and five Which is bold bold bold. I would say before the far. Yeah, we both would have subtracted like four games I would have subtracted two or three. Yeah, I was more in the nine and seven range this year. Justin: Yeah, I was in that nine and seven, eight and eight range before at the farm. Jake: And now I'm going to go to the five. Something to look forward to. The Jets haven't been to the 11 and five since 1985, if that's a crazy enough stat for you. Wow. But it. Justin: Well, that's not true. you. Jake: Yeah, we haven't been... Haven't been 11 and 5. That's four. Oh, that exactly. But we've been better than that. Yeah, we've been 12 and four once before. Justin: Well, then that's what you say. You don't say we haven't been 11 and five since 1985. Jake: I'm saying we haven't ended the season 11 and five since 1985. Justin: Well, we haven't even been that good in 10 years. We haven't been since like 98, right? Jake: Alright, so we're calling a playoff berth. Let's skip the playoffs. Let's let's say that there's a whole bunch of stuff that happens the Jets of course win the Super Bowl Yes, but now let's make our Super Bowl pick our official Super Bowl pick of who we see in the Super Bowl this year Justin: really like Jake: Right now after the suit after the one is Yeah, so we know that the just one rule and we're both the biggest homers ever but really, who do you see? Who do you see going to the Super Bowl this year? Predict the, uh, the two teams. I want teams score MVP team score and the MVP of Justin: the Super Bowl. Yep. Are you absolutely insane? Uh, I am. Well, I am a little insane, but, uh, yeah, a lot. Uh, do you want to go first? Jake: I will go first. I'm actually scanning it right now. Justin: Oh, I thought you had like, because that's kind of what I'm doing. Like I have teams of mine that I like, but, you know, I hadn't actually picked a Super Bowl winner yet. I guess now's as good a time as as any. I'll tell you who won't win the Super Bowl. The Atlanta Falcons. They they won't be winning the Super Bowl. Jake: OK, here it is. Ready for it. Go for it. It's a CNC Super Bowl. Chargers, Cowboys. 38-31, the Damian Thomasin gets the MVP. That's the boldest prediction. And the Cowboys. 38-31, the Damian Thomasin, MVP. PPP. Justin: Wow. Bold. It's fairly bold. Fairly bold. Fairly bold. Um, you know, I hate myself. I'm going to put the pats back in the Super Bowl. Jake: And I'm going to have them- Your risky move there. Justin: Well, you know, you got to, that's what I did last year and I was right. So, uh...
01 Justin: I'm gonna put them back in the Super Bowl. You had them winning last year. I did actually. I know you did. I'm gonna win the Super Bowl before the season started. So I'm gonna put the Pats back in the Super Bowl and I'm gonna have them beating the Saints. The New Orleans Saints. Yep. And I like them to bounce back this year. I like Drew Brees to have a monster season. And I like the Pats to win. and I like the score as your base fan I really am, 27 to 24 really close game and that we're gonna give the MVP to Lawrence Maroney Jake: it's almost too stupid. What is it again? Who is it? It's Pat. 27-24, Pat's over the Saints. Justin: With Lawrence Maroney. Scoring two touchdowns and running out the clock at the end of the game. Jake: Winning the 24. Maroney MVP. Alright, writing it down for you. Thank you. Justin: By the way, I think I have a couple other teams that I liked in the AFC. uh both in in the afc north i really like pittsburgh and i it's surprisingly enough i really like the browns i think the browns are gonna be really good i was watching them play in the preseason uh game and their offensive line just looks like they could run for like eight yards a carry i mean they look so dominant like the holes they've opened up and and the fact the way they moved and like just blocked so well, like... Any runner could have just walked through and then and they had so much time to throw and they've been receiving core Braille and Edwards, I like that Browns team as a as an up-and-coming team In the AFC. I'll tell you my dream Super Bowl. The dream Super Bowl of course is Jets Packers Oh, that's great. Oh, great. Oh, what would they do in Green Bay? Oh, the jet packers. Oh my god. Jake: Yeah. So tell me who you think that just, let's do a couple other picks because we're having fun here. Give me your biggest upset. The team that everybody thinks is going to do well, but it's really going to do crappy this year. Justin: Like the most kind of overrated team? Yeah, most overrated. Or like a team that people think is going to be really OK. I think your Chargers that you put in the Super Bowl, I think the Chargers are going to be a bust. I think that they're not as good as people think they are. They're very talented, granted, but their coaching staff, I just don't think that they can actually get it done. Clearly they're talented enough. to just make it on talent to the playoffs. But I, you know, they might not, you know, they have they do play in the crappiest division in all of football by my eyes. But I'm going to pick the Chargers as as a team in the AFC to look at and say, oh, they're they're not going to be as good as people think they're going to be.
01 Jake: I think I think I'm gonna go with the Saints. I'm gonna say the Saints. Wow, that's so funny Justin: Yeah, that is fun. Did you do that only because I put them in the Super Bowl after I picked your Super Bowl team No, my team that you picked the Saints That I put in the Super Bowl that you're saying is not gonna be any good. Yep Like, they weren't even that good last year. Jake: No, I know they weren't good, but they had like every injury in the world. And they also started 0 and 4, so then they had to make up this huge thing. So they actually won a lot of games during the post. I would say that in my surprise team, which would be a team that no one thinks it's going to do anything, but we'll do OK. They'll actually do better than most people think they will. I want to say Texans. I think the Texans are actually going to rough it up a little this year. I think they're in. I think they're in. Again, second year, Matt Schaub. Justin: That's a really good division. Jake: Just telling you. Justin: That's a tough division. Well, I mean, if you believe the Texans are going to be good, I mean, look at that division. It has the Texans, the Titans, the Jaguars, and the Colts. Those are four teams that you don't really want to. you play Jake: i'm afraid i'm not afraid line alright let's go to a school this week's picks this week's this week's six alright well we can and already know what we're going for this so give me your Justin: the i think the jets will win i think it'll be the dolphins in a score i think they're going to win big i think we're gonna we're gonna beat them pretty good. When I say big... I'm thinking we're gonna actually score some points. I'm gonna go 31 13 Jake: 31 13. Yeah, I think we're gonna win. I you know, I it worries me. It worries me about the Chad Justin: It was a worry that coals hasn't played a snap with farf No, there's me a little bit maybe a little I mean Coles and Chad knew each other like they didn't need practice and stuff but like... I know but that whole thing is just like ugh I don't know, you know but... It's so weird though to not practice I mean I guess you could do it because practicing... They're practicing but they're not playing Yeah well playing's... I consider the preseason like practice so like I consider that like playing but practice playing so until they get comfortable it's gonna be a little weird but... Jake: I still think they're gonna score the 31 points. I work. I'm going Jets 28 23 then we get Casey Go into New England if this isn't the stone cold lock of their in New England in New England It's a 16 and a half is the spread out Justin: I'll take New England and a teaser. I mean, tease it up. I'll take New England in 23 and a half. Really, I think they'll probably win this game in the 30s, maybe even in the 40s. I'll say 37. Jake: Okay, I have them winning 31-13, so yeah, we're close.
03 Jake: Yeah, I just, there's some, I just, I don't know. I just don't think there's any way that they're gonna come out and do anything. Justin: She's awful. Jake: They're awful. They're too young. Brody Coyle is not the answer. there. Well, not against the pats, and we won it. Larry Johnson is great, but he's got to have something else behind him. Their offensive line has slowed down. Now, the Patriots are always good. They're always prepared. You know, I just can't see them not saying, hey, where's your secondary, guys? Oh, yeah, it's right there. It's right in front of Moss. He's in the end zone. Go check it. Don't you check it. Check him out. Justin: Yeah, but like, how is Brody Crow going to play against the pats? I mean, Belichick's going to come out and just. He's gonna die. Jake: Seahawks and Buffalo. You know what? Justin: I'm gonna predict that the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is dead. Jake: Okay, that's a good prediction. Seahawks at Buffalo. Justin: This is a tough game to call. The Bills always have a really great. opening day kind of feel about them in Buffalo a lot like most teams obviously but they're they're one of those kind of Green Bay type of towns where The whole town gets into it and it's big big deal. I'm gonna have the Bills winning this game Hasselbeck hasn't played in the preseason at all They have no receivers right now, Seattle, they're all injured. You forget they got no more Sean Alexander either in the backfield. Jake: But they have Jujo. Justin: Yeah, but he's worse than his brother. So I'm gonna go with the Bills victorious, low scoring game, 17-10. Jake: Oh, okay. I have them losing. I have the CXB in them, 23-19. is is my official throne pick of the week alright let's wrap it up it's been a long show we're missing something what are we missing? Justin: well a huge a huge deal it's kind of a big deal and it's overlooked a lot no you're not a big deal at all something that that's often overlooked around the NFL especially among fans is the importance of the special teams. And like West, the importance of the fact that the Jets over the last bunch of years have had in the league, the guy who's known as if not the best, one of the best special teams coaches in the whole league. And. You can point to the success of Justin Miller, you can point to the success of Leon Washington, you can point to, basically whoever's back there is going to have a good return. You can remember Chad Morton, you can remember, you know, Sam Tatum lost returning punts. These guys all had great... experiences returning the ball because of the system that they played in and the architect of that system is Mike West off and You know, it's wonderful to have him back great that he's healthy
01 Justin: the Jets could sure use him and Jake: Just wanted to throw that out there. Yeah, I know I'm guys back. I'm a little concerned. He hasn't been there for the time being I actually have a bet with a friend. I'll put it out there on the podcast. I have a bet with a friend, dolphin fan. He bet me that who would have more returns, punter kicks. We just did both because I didn't want to split it up for touchdowns this year. Ted Jyn Jr. or Lee Ann Washington. Justin: Now, do you know that Leon Washington's gonna be the returner though for the Jets? Well, they haven't really given that. Jake: Miller's hurt. Miller's hurt. Justin: Yeah, but they've had a bunch of different guys returning all sorts of stuff. Jake: But always in the starting position, it was always. Leon? I think it will be that. I mean, if he isn't then it's a bad bet. And same thing with- Justin: Well, you should've bet him like, you know. Now, Jake: The returner no because we were betting about those two people he was the players Justin: Tension juniors gonna come back and be this this and this I'm like he had one last year Jake: He said he had to return for he had to pulled away for you know for penalties I'm like so what I think I think Leon had one pulled back for pounds. He would have those store last year But anyway, I make him a bet Alrighty, that's it. I'm going to give, let's just talk about some stuff because actually the website has had lots of stuff go up. Actually there's been a new posting by someone we like to call Justin. Yeah, sometimes I post things. Justin wrote an article, the Jester ranks the New York Jets receivers, so go read that one. I thought that would be worthwhile. We have the New York Jets PSLs, the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, an article about sort of the take on it and where they went right and where they went wrong. Then there's a Ruhr's rant about seniority versus loyalty, which is all about how the two teams have handled that. And then of course, if you want to read more in depth on the AFC East 2008. Jet Kingdom Throne picks as well as looking back at 2007, there's a big article on that. So head on over to JetKingdom.com, read those, post to the forums or vote in the most current poll which is, does Brett Favre make the jet to play off contender? Right now, that's 89.29%. in the favor of yes and no is 10.27%. So get in there and vote. Register if you haven't registered and we'll see in the forums and until then I'm going to give you the last shot to say something interesting and you're going to fumble it. Justin: Eggs. Like Thomas Jones. Jake: Exactly. And until next week, we'll be back. Of course. Go Jets!
