12 Jake: This is the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Tuesday, August 12, 2008. Alrighty, welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. As always on this side of the Digital Isle with Jake, and as always on the other side of the Digital Isle, not looking 110% today. Justin: Looking like a little bit too much training camp is Justin. How you doing Justin? Those three days will kill you, let me tell you. Yeah. Oh, you were out there doing the three days. Yeah. Oh man, man. Jeannie is rough. He makes me You know run laps all the time Jake: He is he is rough on you So, you know, it's too bad being a jet fan nowadays, you know, it's training camp and basically nothing Justin: There is nothing going on at all. It's one of my podcast Jake: Yeah, we just like to say come back next week when hopefully we have something to talk about Justin: a quarterback controversy perhaps brewing Jake: Yeah, there's one little the one little note I mean nothing of interest but a a little know, that I had while we were, you know, last week was, yeah, the Jets Blue the entire NFL by signing the NFL. by trading away for a fourth round pick which could go to a third which could go to a two which could go to a one. I expected to be a first round pick basically. Justin: For the 38 year old number four from well I guess now from the New York Jets Redfarb. Not according to Madden 08 or 09 whatever the hell number they're up to. Jake: So, the biggest news I think I have ever witnessed as being a jet, definitely. As a jet fan, I have not witnessed anything as just among the ones that just kind of took over. Have you ever seen it take over the airwaves and the networks? Justin: Yeah, I guess this has been the biggest thing for the jets since signing Parcels, I would imagine. ... ... I can't remember anything over the last 10 to 12 years this exciting and this I mean Really something to really look forward to I mean I was looking forward to the season anyway as I always do and as we always do but Wow, I can't wait. We get to watch breath fire play every game. I mean it's not as if you You know, we get to see them play all the time anyway. They're always on TV, which means the Jets are always going to be on TV this year, folks. We just got flexed up to a couple Sunday night games, that's for sure. Jake: So let's just go over some of the big pieces of this deal, because it was basically put
01 Jake: together last week. You know, all of a sudden I've seen all the interviews with Tannenbaum and you know, basically They didn't want to end it like that, and it was tears. And then sort of the Green Bay Packers went on about their way. But then, whatever, a month ago, it started to bubble up. First it was his brother. Then it was his mother. Then it was his cousin saying, Brett wants to come back. Brett's ready. Brett's ready to come back. He's coming back. He might come back. He's working out. And it kind of bubbled, bubbled, bubbled. He denied. And then all of a sudden it went. Then he said, oh, I do. And then he put in first papers. Then the packer said, stay away. And then they said, it's OK. Come back. Then they said, you're gone. Then they said, maybe there's a trade. Then he said, I didn't want to go to anybody else. They said, we don't want to go to the Vikings. They just went into this whole big thing. Then he kind of quieted down. Brett came back off the plane. He saw on the video he came back, got off. He was back in. in training camp for the Packers is going to be an open competition. And you and I think that's when we had our podcast. We both said, eh, well, looks like he's back. You know, would it be good to have him or not? And you, you, you, I think, were much more on the pro Brett. I actually did say, and I will repeat it and I'll repeat it a couple of times during the season because I did say it and I said it very vehemently. at least. I did say that whatever team that Brett Favre went to, if he went to another team, if he played more than 80% of the games, if he started more than 80% of the games, that team would not make the playoffs. So at that point, I made that wonderful prediction, which I now have to be able to finish my life. Justin: Well, you're gonna stick with that one. And I'll just stick with being right. Alright. in our last podcast. Jake: So then all of a sudden, it was like he was going to be an open competition, which we both kind of laughed at. What kind of competition is that? And would we want him? Would we not? We were happy with our guys, kind of, but it would be great to have Brett, not you. And then all of a sudden, like within two days, it just wham bam. There's heavy talks again. He's flying off to his home again. It's bucks, jets, bucks, jets. I had an inside source. from the NFL remain very nameless inside source say that the talk of the town was that it was going to be it was going to be bucks bucks bucks I wake up the next morning Brett signs with the New York Jets and like I just can't I just can't tell you like the feeling again just optimism I just I don't even know I mean sure the guy's 38, but he's also You know was in the NFC championship last year that he took his team to 13 and 3 he's been an MVP He's been a he's won a Super Bowl. He's his he's a winning record in this in the playoffs I think he's 12 and 10 in the playoffs the guy has experience he has I mean you just add up all the stuff Can he come back and take this team? Can he turn this team into something that's, you know,
03 Jake: go from four and 12 to something else? Can we do the big things? Like, can we beat the Patriots consistently? Can we, you know, can we split with them? Are we going to be able to sort of, you know, throw the deep ball? All these things all of a sudden come up. And while it is a whole world of unknown, it's a world of like fun. It's a fun time to be a jet fan because it's just it's this open possibility. Whereas we were going in with Kellen Clemens, who looked like he wasn't doing too well in training camp and Chad, who was giving us basically what we knew he would give us. Consistency, but no deep threat. You know, a very good guy to manage the game. Now we have. the total unknowns. We have this great, great quarterback. We can honestly say a great quarterback. You know, Chad, I always say it was a good quarterback. We now have a great quarterback. One would even say we have the best quarterback in the AFC East now. So give me some thoughts. What do you think? What was your reaction when you read the news Justin: and when you heard about it? Well, it sure makes the Boba Franks pickup look a whole lot better. I think that was probably the key to the whole thing, right? Definitely. No, I think it's gonna do a couple things. Number one, I think it's gonna show that over the past I don't know five years the Jets have been criticized for not Throwing the ball down the field and and a couple of the guys that got you know called out for that were the coordinators. Heimerdinger only had one year and he said, throw the ball down the field, throw the ball down the field, they didn't throw the ball down the field. A couple other guys also came and went. I just don't think we could. It's not the throw down the field, the bomb down the sideline to Santana Moss. That throw check make. that throw almost any quarterback can make you throw it down the field as far as you can the throw that chad could never make was the 25 yard pass down the middle of the field that has to zip you know that that that that pad the wide receiver turns around and before he knows it's it's that kind of that kind of throw that God damn it, Brett Vibe could make every throw on the field off his left foot in the air like a ballerina. I mean, really, it's gonna be a whole lot of fun to see if the offensive minds here that are thinking up this offensive playbook can actually exploit it. or have the Jets really been that conservative over the years. So that'll be interesting to see, because Brett doesn't play that way. Brett's a slinger. He's going to throw the ball around the field, and it's going to be fun no matter what happens. So that's one thing. And I think what it'll show is that we've been limited by our talent, not by our... what we've wanted to actually do. You know, guys are open for five that aren't open for Chad. Or any quarterback for that matter. You know, guys down the field, they're open for five
02 Justin: because he can make the throw. Those guys aren't open for other quarterbacks. So it's going to be interesting. Jake: He'll also throw to the guy who isn't open. Oh, that's true Justin: Do you know you're not gonna get the you're not gonna get the the chap Pennington patient? You know five yards this way four yards that way three yards that way move it down the field as safe as you can Yeah, you know you're gonna give up some stuff for that too. You're gonna get picked off a couple times So let's talk about the best possibility. Jake: What could possibly be the best thing that could happen? Justin: Uh, 19 and 0 Super Bowl, that's probably the best thing that could happen. I'm talking about the playbook, I'm talking about the game. Jake: So the game could be opened up basically by having... Justin: Yeah, I'd say a couple of guys benefit huge. Thomas Jones big time big time benefit. I mean he was already getting the benefit of getting Al Fannock as a left guard bringing him woody and also bringing in longtime pro bowler Tony Richardson to block in front of him As a fullback now, he's got a guy who could throw the ball I mean, yeah that's gonna open the game up Maybe not for just Thomas Jones maybe for some other guys Leon or whoever else gets to talk to rock back there Jesse Chapman, whoever else. The other thing that's going to be interesting is, I think we're going to play a lot with two tight ends. I think now that you know, Baker's back in town and yeah Keller as a high draft pick and Poba Frank's farce old teammate who has, who by by the way is tied with Torell Owens for the most touchdown passes inside the 20 for the last I don't know over the last five or ten years or so whatever however long it is and since 2003 or four which is kind of interesting so I think that that's gonna also play a role because I don't know if we even have a third receiver to be honest oh I think we have a couple Jake: receivers I think there's gonna be it's gonna be interesting to watch Interesting to watch to see how something like a Brad Smith, does this take Brad Smith who is probably in there for the third position right now, does this take him and put him to another level where he can get out there? Even some of the new guys. I don't know. Justin: I think it's going to be tough for guys like Brad Smith. and uh... and some of those newer guys maybe uh... i'm looking for chances to keep to do something look at what's last year's the working preseason uh... i don't know i think i think i think that's that was a quarterback how hard is it to be for him to catch the ball when it's coming at you for prep fire burning Jake: it is an unbelievable open up I agree with you the running game is a big is a big plus clearly coals and Kachri are gonna are gonna benefit immediately from this But I agree. I think it's not so them. I think they'll get the yards they'll get there, but they're gonna be the you know ancillary because really
04 Jake: What what what far did last year was a lot of like five outs like they would go with just a lot of receivers and because he Has the ability to slam the ball in there get it downfield to make a move with his feet still You know to run around the pocket to scramble and still throw the ball accurately I think that's what's gonna set up a lot of the games and so it is the Dustin Kellers the Bubba Franks The Chris bakers who's now back in camp and apparently, you know at peace with his contract, which is good So it really does feel like it's coming together and it feels like we've got the pieces. You know, we've got this hopefully a very good offensive line with pros and also good guys who've, you know, high draft around, high draft picks. We have, and then what might actually help on the other side is that maybe it's not a team that always has to come back. Maybe it's a team that can get up, can go down the field on the first drive. put up seven and then let the defense stop them for a while, you know, that kind of thing is just unbelievably, it just makes you optimistic as a fan, as a jet fan, I will say it's with great optimism comes great disappointment. So there's a part of me as a jet fan, just like there was in 1999 when we were going in, you know, super bound bold, Super bold bound New York Jets, you know, It's going to be a great year. you know, game one, he goes down off of a fumble off of Curtis Martin and and then the season was kind of gone. There's something in me as a jet fan that just feels like, you know, this it's all too good, you know, it's too good to be true. Justin: I don't know. It sure does. It sure does make all the moves that they did during the offseason look a hell of a lot better now. because all those things that they did in the off season, like sure up the offensive line, plug up the middle of the defensive line, bring in some of those kinds of guys, and then some extra linebackers here and there, and all that work that they did is, sometimes it's all for naught, if you don't have a guy who can get you down the field. Now, you have, you know, one of the guys who played the best in the league last year, so... And hasn't missed a snap for 16 years, or hasn't missed a start for 16 years, I should say. So, I mean, it just makes all those moves look so much better, because now you have the quarterback to go with those moves. And I just hope it all gels, as opposed to everybody being new, like... I think Washington tried to do this for a bunch of years, just slam a bunch of guys together. But then it felt kind of different now. That's just the way it works. So hopefully it works out. Jake: Yeah, and I think that's honestly a huge, huge, huge if. Again, it's what I was claiming before, which was. which was that chemistry matters and that knowing the playbook matters and knowing the offense matters. Now it is putting in a really good guy who's seen almost everything, who should be able to pick it up quickly.
04 Jake: This is, you know, but is he an old dog who can't pick up new tricks? Is he, you know, is he gonna be able to be utilized? Is he gonna be a gunslinger or is he gonna kind of settle down like he did a little bit last year? He settled down. He wasn't the gunslinger as much. He wasn't just throwing anything any which way. But some of the upsides, I mean, the other thing about Brett Favre is no matter where you are in the game, he can do it, right? He can win that game and then the amount of times that Brett Favre's come back in the fourth quarter and won the game. I mean, I don't know if the stats are up there somewhere, someone has a stat, but I'm sure he's top five in terms of quarterbacks who've ever done that, you know, again and again and again and again, come back after, you know, being down by 12 or down by 14 and come back and just win the game. So it's gonna take it's gonna take a lot but it really is exciting and I think it does give us a chance I think it does give us a chance to beat the Patriots not once but twice I think it gives us a chance to do all the things that we you know That we say we can never do that We kind of go into every season going oh jeez You know are we gonna be able to to get beyond like winning eight games or nine games? We're gonna be able to get to that 11 games 12, you know double digits Give me one ten two years ago But can we win 11 or 12? Can we actually win the AFC East and we haven't won the AFC East in a long time? You know could we actually do that and I think this this move feels like it it feels like we could do it But it's gonna take a lot. So Let's just say go Brett. I mean I that's it's just awesome Totally awesome. The other note kind of know we did in the meantime Justin: What? Well, we helped our enemy. Well, that's what I was just about to get to was that in that case. Oh, were you? We're on the same page. Jake: We're on the same call, as it were. Interesting enough, what we did is we cut Pennington immediately, because I guess you have to have him cut by the next day for the cap. It's the next day at 4 PM. So we cut him basically immediately, not trade, not nothing. Um, and, uh, within I think 48 hours, he was picked up by someone we like to call Bill Parcells. Oh, the man who drafted him. So the starting quarterback of the Miami Dolphins in week one most likely is going to be Chad Pennington number 10 drafted, you know, by Parcells back in what, 2001, um, along those lines. Uh, and it's just, you know, part of me as a. I don't know, it's a hard one. Do you root for the player who leaves you? I definitely do. I wish him the best of luck if it has nothing to do with beating us. I mean, I really liked him. He was a great, great guy, a great mind, a great student of football. He was a good quarterback. back. He is not a great quarterback. He was a good quarterback. And he will probably do OK down there. I mean, I think he would have done better on the Jets because we put in, we have more weapons. He doesn't have any weapons down there. Their offensive line is not good. Their running game might be OK, but it's going to, I mean,
02 Jake: they're going to do the same things they do to the Jets. The Jets, they're going to stack the box. When we play them, we're going to stack the box. We're going to dare him to throw the 20. Scott. Mm-hmm. there were 20 yard pass and dare him because reevers is gonna be ready to pick it off or you know roads pick off and out But will he do will he win more games for them down there than he then they would have won with you know Whatever other bunch of McCown's that they have Justin: Absolutely, I think I think that they just I think that they just won six games maybe seven uh... more than the three or four had down for before they get champion start for a quick win them three years long and you forget it swatches now he's gone and we're in the breath far there and it's like god has come you know it's like you know you forget he he was pretty good uh... and he was a good leader in the one games certainly A guy that you didn't mind having the ball in his hands at the end of the game. It was better than You know yeah, certainly somewhere in the middle Not you know in the middle not not Jake: That's what we felt about this season right we felt like we were in the middle We were gonna have a middle season we weren't gonna have a great season We're kind of hoping for a playoff berth wild card You know that's the kind of season we're looking at with Chad and to be honest We have much more weapons than the Dolphins had or have. And I worry, will they be able to protect him? God, they sure weren't able to protect their quarterbacks last year. Are they going to be able to give him other weapons to throw too? I mean, there are no weapons on that team. I mean, they got one guy who they're claiming, but he's a second year guy. And- Where's the tight ends? Where's the stud wide receivers? They got two running back, one who's hurt, one who's been smoking pot for three years. What is he going to do? But I think it's interesting. And again, it makes for good football. It makes for a great story. And I wish him the best of luck when he's not on the field against the Jets. Week one, it's going to be a blast to watch. Justin: Yeah, that'll be really fun. By the way, how many games do you think the Jets will now be flexed into prime time? Jake: Um, that's interesting. I let me look at the schedule. I'm looking at it now. What week does that actually start? the New York week 9 or something week 10 Justin: so we're already playing New England in prime time which is going to be one of the biggest games of the season I think and across the NFL absolutely they're going to love that but then Jake: so let's see, games that could be flex I mean I'm looking at these 17 can't be flexy voice you got from, let's say the Titans, the Broncos, the 49ers, the Bills Justin: Honestly any of those any of those first two Tennessee
02 Justin: Certainly could because they could be decent this year Denver as well could also be flexed up buffaloes and Probably not and the Seattle game could certainly be flexed up breath far of going to Seattle there playing against Holmgren and Holmgren's last year yada yada yada yada yada I can see it happening I mean it's already a four o'clock game on the west coast uh I I can see that I'm I'm sure that they're gonna get the Jets into prime time more than just that one time this year they have to how do you not get breath five in New York in prime time Jake: it it well we got them in twice because we we play on Monday Justin: oh that's right that's San Diego I'm sorry So two times, I can't see them not trying to get them in there another two times. Jake: No, I agree. I could see them, I could see them, especially because there'll always be the rumor, and now this is our problem, and our thing to deal with with the Brett Favre era becomes the when will Brett Favre retire era, so we get to pay attention to is he going to retire? Is he going to retire? Well, you know what the good thing is? Justin: We have Cal and Clemen sitting there, and that's who we know is going to be the next quarterback regardless. That's it really yeah, really What's the difference you were gonna go into the season this year with them? What's the difference? Jake: Well, we weren't going in season with him that's the whole problem I think Helen is kind of proving that maybe he's not ready. Is he ready next year? Justin: Well, is he better not ready now? That's fine. Cuz we have her fiber who cares where if I was gonna play for the next couple years Couple yeah this year and next year and then we'll see Jake: Maybe that's saying a lot but but and let's jump off that topic and go to what talk about there was actually a gameplay oh I don't care it was a well the rest of the NFL NFL and the people who actually pay attention to games actually do no one cares yes really no one it's a it's a preseason but you know what I'd rather Justin: talk about I don't know anything but this anything. No, no, no, we're gonna talk a little about it Jake: We're gonna talk a little bit about it because it was a game and it was it was an interesting game I think you just have to break out the things that you know, what are the pieces? Oh my god, why the game do you say are important? Justin: You know why preseason is so meaningless because Brett Ratliff can throw 270 yard Jake: Well, that's the interesting piece. So we have another, we have two Bretts on our team that are kind of, we might have an old and a new Brett. We could have a Brett to Brett handoff. I don't see that. Maybe Kellen Clemens is in the future and maybe Brett to Brett. The big one I thought, you know, well first of all, I love the first play of the game. Well, I don't love it, but, you know, painful that they hand the ball to Jamal Luellis for the first play of the game and he runs for 12. Actually, sorry ran for 11. He ran right at the middle right for 11 yards in the first play and I was like, are you kidding me? Justin: Exactly what is not supposed to happen? Jake: Yeah, I mean uh, coo- Coo- Cooney or clowny? I don't know how to clowny I don't want to have clowny. That's a clowny but you know, clearly, there's some talent there. I think we have, there'll be some young, some young receivers Justin: who might benefit from being in a...
01 Justin: I don't know why no one's mentioning the fact that he was on Green Bay last year. So, you know, maybe there's a little connection there. I don't know if he was even on the team, but apparently we claimed him from waivers last year. from Green Bay so maybe he's caught a pass in practice from five or something Jake: maybe he's maybe he looked his boots someday or did something Justin: did he ever even play in the uh the nfl i don't think he has he was drafted last year in the fifth round by Green Bay so Jake: and Dwight Lowry had a had a pick which was nice to hear Justin: i mean he was a draft pick correct uh corner Yep, this year. Yeah, that's good to hear. Jake: Brady Quinn looked OK. I mean, he looked not like the starter. Certainly Anderson's there. Starter, right? Anderson's starter. Quinn, I think by the end of this year, they'll basically be looking to trade Quinn away because you can't let that guy that high in the draft pick just sit there forever. Justin: No, it's the same thing San Diego had to do. Jake: Yeah. Well, Cindy got rid of the old guy and kept the new guy. Well, that's what I mean. But they have two new guys. Well, Anderson's, because Anderson's the same age. Justin: Are they really the same age? Yeah, I guess that they're kind of. Jake: Anderson's 25 and Quinn's 23. Justin: It's not like Drew Brees is old or anything, but. Jake: Yeah, well jubilee's is a couple more years. He's got at least five more years and then what's the Justin: Rivers But so, you know what I end up the pot, you know what I found Oh, I was gonna continue to talk about this preseason crap. Do you know what? Okay. Yeah, do you know what I think was the most? Maybe the the best thing about looking at the statistics now. Uh, yeah, no sex Either way, I mean not good, but very good on the other side. No sacks. Not one sack. Jake: It was, you know, Kellan, he did have a lot of time. And again, this is going to help any quarterback. It's going to help Chad. It's going to help Kellan. It's certainly going to help Brett. More time is better. Justin: We said that as soon as they grabbed Fannico. We said, wow, great. Good job. We needed that. Jake: Yeah, no, he's got it. So it's nice, though. We got our guy. I would say Gholston didn't really do anything. But again, he's going to need some time. He's going to need a week five, week six to really become something. He's not going to go out there in week one and start running around crazy. He'll need some time to figure out how to be that player. Justin: That defense is pretty complicated, too. So he'll probably need a little time to figure it all out. Jake: But he'll probably pressure in others other players Overall, it's a good thing because he he will become someone in the future But you know, maybe this year he'll just be like a surprise towards week 10 week 11 where he'll start to register a sack or two again, I Justin: Yeah, you happen to see the The news from Goodell that he's you know, really starting to enforce the
06 Justin: uh or you know putting forward new rules at nfl games about uh fan rowdiness and and drinking and cracking down on all sorts of stuff and and and and you know even the ability to text message a security guard if if you think you're in danger or something and you don't want people to see you Tattling and getting them thrown out of a game. I mean, they're really taking this stuff seriously and I like it Jake: Yeah, I mean I again, I guess I'm kind of go from this from two points of view I mean one is as my younger. I'm a young guy kind of ish certainly not as young as you young man But you know, we like to get my get my drink on, I like to be a little rowdy and I like to yell and I like to scream and I like to do things. Justin: Yeah, but I've been to the games with you, plenty of games, and you are not the fan that they're talking about. No, I'm not. That's the point, I'm not. You're not getting, you know, first of all, you're not irresponsible so you don't get like blackout drunk. Secondly, you're yelling, you know, cheering as opposed to yelling at an opposing team's... fan and Pouring beer on their head. Yeah, like stuff along those totally that kind of ruined the game for other fans You don't ruin the game. That's other fans Jake: That's what I was gonna say is that I think that the part that I like people enjoying themselves I think you know, you should be able to go so the couple big changes they've made and the Jets have followed suit You know, they used to open up the parking lot like 8 o'clock in the morning They're now gonna only open up about five hours before the game Now part of me goes, well, jeez, they're cutting back on our tailgate time. But honestly, do you need 10 hours to tailgate to get ready for a game? To me, I tailgate you and I both tailgate two, three hours. You get there, you wander around. And it's enough. You know, we're, it's enough. Justin: Like two and a half, three hours for us. is enough time to hang out before the game and listen to something on the radio or whatever. And you don't really need to sit in a parking lot for six hours drinking beer. Jake: So then the other side, sort of my non-younger side, my older side, the one who has a daughter who's growing up now, over three years old, who I eventually want to take the game sooner than later. you know There's a part of me that thinks I like that. I like that they're going to be a little bit more, you know, there's not going to be the jerks behind and you know what section I sit in and there's always some jerks, you know, a bunch of drunken guys in their mid 20s just they don't watch the game. They just yell and scream. They turn around to other people to yell and scream and they're throwing stuff constantly. And you know, those kind of people I'm sorry, I don't think that anything to the game. I don't think they add it. I don't think they help out. They're not part of the fans. They're just drunk and rowdy people and sometimes drunk and rowdy people just show up anywhere. So am I gonna miss the 5,000 airplanes flying on the field?
04 Jake: No. Am I gonna miss a bunch of drunk people spilling other people's beer and falling down and all that? No, I'm not. Do I think it's— You know, is there is it is it possibly could be on a slippery slope where? You know goes from five hours to four hours to three hours to they start the new stadium And then it like you can only show up 30 minutes before the game and you know You can never drink and they're gonna breathalyze you before you get in Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I hope that's not the way it goes, but clearly, you know, this is this is a way of cutting back, but the texting I think is brilliant. It's brilliant. Justin: Yeah, I mean, they definitely did a really, really great things. That that texting is great because it protects people. They don't have to worry about, you know, tattling and then, you know, meeting that guy out in the parking lot later after the game or seeing them at the next game. Right. So that's great. I think. the fact that they gave this thing some teeth and they said you know what season ticket holder if you're kicked out give us the rest of your tickets uh yeah because that's it uh once one strike buddy uh you don't need to be and it kind of maybe maybe the jets were the cause of this the gate d stuff and everyone knows absolutely stuff uh you know i think maybe we were we were probably uh you know one of the one of the people who kind of provoked this whole you know mission here from roger roger gudel and i actually think he did a good job here i i i like what what he's put forward and i like the fact that both the jets and the giants are complying I think they have to I don't think they have a choice actually Jake: Yeah, it's not a choice. I mean, whether they will see. My honest opinion is I don't think it's going to be that big of a deal. I hope it cuts down a little bit. Hope it doesn't go out of control. So I hope that in the end of the day, we have a game that's like just a little bit more calm. I mean, I've seen people pull out of that stadium on stretchers because of fights and stuff like that. So. Thanks for watching! I don't want the game to be like that. I want the game to be nice. Do I want to, you know, is it a church going event? No. Should you scream and shout? Yes. The occasional, you know, swear or whatever? Sure. You know, I certainly, but I always try to look around me. And if there's kids, I try to, you know, keep it down a little bit and not get as crazy and not swear and stuff like that. Because, you know, it's supposed to be a thing for most people, all people. It can't just be for. for. the rowdy, you know, truck workers, I guess. But we are we are. We are a good point. Justin: We are blue collar jet fans. Jet fans are actually the rowdier of the bunch between jet giants. Jake: And I'll tell you that that worst game, the worst game ever, ever, every year. And then I go to it every year is the why. Sorry, I go every other year is the jet jet. The jet giants preseason. It's because it's a Friday or Saturday night. It'll be a Saturday night this year. The Friday or Saturday night, it's, you know, some people get drunk.
02 Jake: They don't have to get up on, you know, the next day as they do on Sundays. It's generally, anybody can go because, you know, the tickets are basically, I mean, you have to pay for them, but generally you can get them. Then you have two teams, right, in the same house. So you basically have your Giants and your Jet fans there, no matter who has the home tickets because the other people get it. Justin: They always play in game three too, the actual meaningful preseason game. Jake: Yeah. They always seem to play well against me. Justin: They always do, like the actual meaningful one. I remember guys getting hurt. uh in this chat games Jason Seagorn I think got hurt in this game also a couple years bagger yes that's bunch years back now but those big loss for the giants at the time and I remember yeah the Chad going down with the the wrist again it's not a stupid like that we play them game three because it's like a it's like a real game Jake: Heh heh heh. Well, that actually brings to one other little side note is they're talking about what they do with the preseason. And right now we have four games, basically three of which, or two of which matter, maybe the first one and the last one, they kind of basically don't play the starters very much. But they're talking about, just see what you feel about this, taking one of the preseason games away and putting it into the regular season. Justin: Thanks for watching. Okay, why do you love it? Because more regular season games equals more enjoyment for Justin. Uh, seriously? Because I think preseason games are meaningless, especially game 4. There's no reason why game 4 of the preseason couldn't be. regular season game and be more meaningful. There's no reason why they couldn't you know maybe even extend out the season for two weeks and maybe even give two bye weeks. I don't want to get crazy and you know design a whole new system for the NFL but more regular season games to me is better Then you know keeping these four preseason games. I think three is fine Two I'd say a little too few three is fine. You see the starters in game three You know what you have at that point. You've been in camp for over a month. You know what you have threes enough One more regular season games really cool now There are problems with that. Yeah, I have an odd number of problems You can't have an odd number of regular season games because of season tickets and tickets in general so you'd have to have an even number of Regular season games so there you'd have to add an extra week to the season and two games Which then you say, well, then you have too many games and you push the Super Bowl out. I don't know how that would be handled. So you can't just stand one thing. Jake: So the way they talked about it, hold on, I'll let you know the way they, since you know you clearly don't actually read it. Justin: No, no, but I'm solving the problems. Jake: You're solving the problems.
01 Jake: The way they've talked about it is... The third, the, the, so you have eight game, eight home, eight away. That last one for every team would be like a neutral game. So for every, so you know, they've been talking about putting games more and more games overseas. So like that kind of thing, not that they'd all go overseas, but maybe they'd go to a city that wants an NFL team and, but they'd both be away. That's the end of the video. Please subscribe, like, comment and share. I'm Dan Henson, and I'm the Director of the National Security Council. Thanks for watching! Does that make sense? So like, LA, I would say. So maybe the Jets would play the Cowboys in LA. Justin: Does it have to be all in the last season, the last weekend? See that? Jake: No, it wouldn't. No, no. It would just be all throughout the season. Justin: Every team plays a neutral game against. So basically, every team gets a neutral game. And that's correct. So neither team is the home team. Jake: Right. That's interesting. It's interesting. Here's one of my problems. First of all, I don't like when they mess with stuff that gets into the record book stuff. Because then the seasons get mixed up again, and then the 16 and 15, what was a 16? That always bugs me. And honestly, I don't think we need another game. I would really, if they want to take a game away from preseason, just take a game away from preseason. Who cares? I mean, you know for them is probably advertising because if you could bring another game into regular season That means a whole another set of money you can make well, it's the tickets too Justin: I mean they sell those preseason ticket games and they but they're the same price Right, but if you just don't hold the game and then it's gone and then you lose all that money Where's the problem to that? Jake: Your season You know, the pride put in the right. I wouldn't mind that to be honest Justin: I mean as long as they could figure out a way to make it fair So it's not one team has nine home games and another team has eight in the division. That would be awful I would right hate that if the Pats had nine home games and we had eight Or if the Bills had nine or if the Dolphins had not or if anybody in the AFC had nine and we had eight I hate that that I wouldn't do that. Never do that. They'd have to do two games or They could use buys, you know, maybe they just extend the season by a week and give teams extra buys instead of playing that meaningless game. But again, then they lose the revenue. So yeah, I don't think so. Jake: I think either way, I wish they'd just leave it the way it is. If people don't want to play in those games and don't play in them, you know, fine, then you just then you get to see plenty of guys. Justin: You see plenty of guys I was looking at the box score for the Jekkem while we were talking about the preseason I was looking at some of the other teams, you know, none of the big players play in the first game I mean, Tomlinson didn't touch the ball for the for the San Diego. I mean you look at most teams They're running backs. They don't actually you know they don't actually touch touch the ball during the uh you know the first games especially so they play during you know we we two and three would it would thomas jones get four carries
00 Justin: i mean kurtis martin never played during the preseason so they always have that option Jake: already we're gonna have to wrap it up here because we're getting in that's a into a Deep deep deep long episode, but it is brett Flavored.
