12 Jake: This is the 42nd episode of the Jet Kingdom podcast for Tuesday, April 7th, 2009. cry. And the podcast, as always, on this side of the very, very digital aisle, if not really not working very well digital aisle, technical difficulties this evening, is Jake on the other side hanging out on his couch slash bed. It's a bed. It's just a bed. It's a bed. It's not a couch slash bed. I have a couch and a bed. Um... Explain to me, is the digital aisle more digital today than it has been? Yeah, we're passing through a more digital aisle. We've picked a separate aisle that we chose. We had the slash analog digital aisle. Now we're on the fully digital aisle. Stop. Yeah, just might as well give it up. And thanks for coming. So, well, let's kick off with some Jets news. It's been about a month since we had our last podcast. And it's been that long. It has, yeah. So sorry. Well, there's not a lot going on, so we can cover it once every couple weeks. But I think the first thing to mention right off the bat that we want to get in there is that if you you. You can follow the Jet Kingdom crew and podcast at Twitter. See, that's how we're more digital. We're more digital because... Oh yeah, it is very digital today. More, maybe we're more social. Because we're on Twitter, we're on the Twitter. So, twitter.com slash Jet Kingdom. You can follow us, as many have chosen already, and we will announce when our podcasts are going to be. And you can also just do an at Twitter to us or at JetKingdom to us if you have questions before the podcast and we will answer them or go over them or ignore you completely depending on what we want to do. But let's kick it off immediately into sort of the big talk that's been going on about in the last couple weeks which is the the much ado about nothing in that we did not sign Jay Cutler. Jay Cutler went to the Bears. There was a lot of talk. He was making some moaning and groaning in Denver and basically the other day they could not patch it up and so they they They went and traded them for two number ones, a number three, and their starting quarterback, which isn't saying a lot. The first question is right out of the bat, would you have made that trade as a jet? No. Should the Jets have made that trade? Couldn't you tell by my reaction that I would not have made that trade?
03 Jake: I think you asked me. Earlier that day, because it was really heating up and the news sources were really starting to pump. You asked me earlier that day, would you give up two number ones? I said absolutely not. Not for a quarterback that's never won anything or done anything. I understand he has a big arm and he throws faster than fuck. But I mean, the guy just can't. He doesn't win games. Last year they had, what were they, 8 and 5? And I think San Diego was 5 and 8. And they played each other in the last game. Denver 8 and 7. San Diego was 7 and 8. Winner goes to the playoffs. Winner was San Diego. That's a game I wouldn't trade to number 1's and a number 3 for the guy who started for the losing team. Sorry You know guys that are at or were at his level meaning he's been in the league for about four years started for three Guys that you can compare them to rivers Raffles burger Manning much more accomplished Won some games in their life uh... warden even last year had a probably you know not the statistical numbers that color had been in play in the offense i'd like to see color for fourty five hundred chicago it's not happening i would never do it uh... not for not forget it's never won clearly a uh... has some issues in the head and He has some physical issues too. He's a diabetic. Ooh Wouldn't have done it. Well, I mean it's true. It's not rough. It's true. He's a diabetic and that is a physical Ailment that you know an athlete you have to take that into consideration when you're paying him Millions and millions and millions of dollars in looking to trade, you know two first round picks, that's two starters, and a third round pick, potentially three starters on your team long term for a guy who, you know, does have a physical ailment. Yeah, well, let's, I'll do the flip side since I do agree that- You don't have to do the flip side. Would you have done the trade? Not the way it was, but I'll tell you why there's a lot of people who think we should have, which is that he is in the prime of his career. Meaning he's 25 years old, he's shown that he can play. He's not a losing quarterback in that he throws more interceptions than touchdowns. He has a good passer rating. He has a cannon for an arm and he's thrown that he can wing it around. For all the same reasons that we've always said that maybe Kellen Clemens didn't do so well or Chad Penning didn't do so well in this year or that year, you could say the same thing about the Jay Cutler and the Denver Broncos was that his team was made up of all offense, no defense. I mean, their defense was just, they didn't even show up. So he played a lot of games where he was just playing catch up. Now, some of you would say, well, that's why he threw up so many yards. I mean, he threw up, you know, 4,500 yards last year.
01 Jake: And it's also that system, you know. Shanahan runs a pretty good offense. You know, he... he was able to make a pretty good quarterback at a plumber and clearly he did a heck of a job with Elway. He was doing the same with Cutler. You know, that system, that offensive scheme that he ran was conducive for a guy like Cutler and clearly he was upset when When he left when shadahan left that's kind of when the whole thing started Um you know he kind of saw his future I don't I don't see why he had such a big deal with McDaniel So he's you know a young coach coming in had really good success with Matt Castle he probably said some things he shouldn't have said early on but Yeah, I mean, it clearly didn't get I think I think it's a little bit of I think there's a couple things that make me Really go back and say this is the reason I didn't want the Jets to do this plan you know hindsight is 2020 but I he I agree that he's a good quarterback has a has a cannon for an arm Probably in the top 15 quarterbacks in the league. I definitely put him in somewhere in the top 15 But I don't like a head. I don't know. I don't know. When you say that you when you start actually because I've said that about guys like Oh, he's top 10 quarterback, but then when you really start like listing them out you'd be surprised like If you would On the podcast don't you actually have a glove button? Uh, could you not find it? Yep, now I do. We're not, we are not editing this out. No. Because we don't know how. Um, what were we saying before you sneezed and in- You're saying that when you actually compare quarterbacks or- Oh, I don't think he's in the top 15, to be honest. And I'm just saying, I'm not just saying that. Why? Based on potential or based on what he actually is? No, I think based on what he really is. But let me finish my point and then I'll sneeze again and then you can finish your point. Here's a couple things that I think, the reasons why that I'm glad we didn't pick up on this. One is that I think he's... I say he's in top 15, you don't agree, but I think he's in top 15, but he is a bit of a head case. I don't like head cases. Head cases, they arrive and then they start to do the little head case thing and then you end up like a year later regretting it. If you're really going to say, this is the quarterback of the future and we were having for 10 years, well, head cases, the problem with head cases is they don't last for 10 years because they start doing stuff that makes the reason why they got rid of them. The second reason is... that again, I haven't seen if he were a if you were a playoff caliber and playoff caliber means you guys go here, you got to hit the win in the playoffs. You know what reminds me of a really good I'm not making the comparison between these two players physically, but you know what a really good quarterback was that always seem to do well in the season, put up good numbers, but never can do anything in the playoffs. cat painting And you know, you show me you can win the playoffs and I'll be happy.
02 Jake: You show me you're crappy during the season, but you can. How about like getting to the playoffs? Well, getting to the playoffs and then I want to see winning the playoffs. So I'm going to give up to if he hasn't even gotten to first round. I want to see some winning in playoffs. I don't care if it's gotten there. You know, he hasn't even gotten there. Palmer, maybe I could see two first rounds, but I just don't see it for it. For no way. Here's no here's nothing. The other thing to do is compare the first round picks. Now, we have actually, in the last couple years, done pretty well with our first round. So we actually gotten players that actually play. Not last year. Let's throw Vernon Goulston a handicap on this one. But if you said, you trade away Kellen Clemens, OK, well, we don't know where he's going to be. Let's say you trade away Kellen Clemens. Nick Mangold and Darelle Rivas, first round middle, first round end, and you're starting your quote unquote starting quarterback. And then somebody else down in the regular trade right third round two. Nick Mangold, Callum Clemens and Darelle Rivas for J. Cutler. No. No F and Y. I'm not trading away three starters for one. That's stupid. And I think. Especially when two of them are first round caliber. Like, why would you do that? Thank you for watching. Right. I mean, I don't I don't get it. And the Bears. They win without throwing the ball. That's not who they are. Why? Why try and be not who you are. They are a hard nose defense. Pound the ball on the ground. Beat you up in cold weather football team. Why try and be something you're not with a finesse. Throw the ball quarterback. I mean. He's clearly finesse. When you see like when him and Philip Rivers, you know, Philip Rivers always got the upper hand on him and I just don't see how a team could trade. I mean he himself was only one first round pick Why would you trade two for him? Just don't get it if you could get him in one draft. I don't see it. And they did perfectly fine with Kyle Orton last year. He's actually a winning quarterback. I have a feeling, I have a feeling McDaniels will do something with him. Net-net. Chicago Bears went 9-7 last year. Right? I don't think they got any better. Really? I can't say they're gonna not do better with him. If they went 9-7 last year, they probably needed a lot more help on the... on the on the defense side of the ball. But you're saying right now Chicago Bears do better, worse or the same as 9-7 in the 2009 season? Right in the same area whether they're 9 and 7, 10 and 6, 8 and 8. I mean I don't know their schedule. I'm not looking at it. I don't know. Well they play the Lions twice a year so that's two wins. Oh I know that's two wins. I get it but I mean I don't know. I don't think they got that much better to be honest with Jay Cutler. I think Orton did a fine job for them. Maybe they think that there's some offensive gurus like my Chana and was and they can draw up some great plays for Cutler.
04 Jake: But have fun throwing the ball in Chicago. Yeah, I mean, I think there's a reason there's never been great quarterbacks in Chicago. They've never had one. Ooh, never had a great quarterback. I don't know if I know enough about the quarterbacks of Chicago Bears to argue that point. It, anyone who does, Twitter us, if you can, you know, think of a great Chicago Bears and don't say McMahon. He won. a Super Bowl but he didn't play for too long. All right, so let's move on. So the J Cutler is gone, but we are left with what we're left with. And I think this is, so let's do a little talk about the draft, because clearly the draft is coming up, but then we'll go on to some other stuff. Hold on a minute, before we do that, you say we're left with what we're left with. Do you think, I'm reading in the paper, say it's like a foregone. Thank you. a conclusion that Clemens is the starter. I don't believe that that's true. I don't think so. And I haven't actually been reading that. I think there's a lot of, again, I think this team is going to be about defense. And I think what they want is someone who won't F it up. And. Where is that guy? Is he on the roster or not? I think the thing about going to get someone out of the draft, you know, is a lot of talk about the prospects in the draft. This is one of the weakest quarterback drafts there is. I'm sorry, I don't care about all the hype. It's weak, it's weak, it's weak as a quarterback draft. And it's not a position of need. We don't need another young quarterback. We have three young quarterbacks. We don't need another guy who we don't know is going to play in the NFL, because we have three guys if we don't know if they're going to play in the NFL. So we don't need four. We have Eric Gange. We have Kellen Clements. And we have Brett Radcliffe. And that's enough. That, to me, is like you go in, you go with one of those guys, you build your defense this year, you learn what you learn. Maybe there's a diamond in the rough there. And if there isn't, then you're going to learn that. But you're going to have a slam in defense, and you'll go somewhere. I mean, I'm personally pulling for Brett Ratliff. That's really my personal pull. I think Kellen comments could be. Me too. I'm with you. Based on really nothing. I mean, based on really nothing. He's just played in preseason games. I liked him in training class last year. I liked him in preseason. I like his he's a typical. He's the new quarterback size. He's 6'4", 235 pounds. I don't think that's new. Well, it is because you look back at the quarterbacks who won 10, 15 years ago and the quarterbacks who won now. Again, I went over the last seven Super Bowls and looked down the size of the quarterbacks. What are they, heavier? They're all big. They're all big. They're just heavier? Six foot four plus guys. They're big guys. Eli. Bye. Uh, Peyton Ben Brady are all six four. Or five. I mean, maybe they're six three, but they're all big guys and they could take a hit. And Ben is big Ben is probably a good example
02 Jake: of someone who's just, you know, who really is sturdy. Players are bigger. Defensemen are bigger. Defensive ends are bigger. You need to be big. Callen Clements is six two. I'm not saying that that's tiny, but in the NFL quarterback age, that's not. big anymore. I don't know, just something about that. I'm kind of hoping for Ratliff. I have a little underdog with him. He's been the system. I like that it's the same quarterbacks coming back to the same system with the same offensive coordinator. I think that will help all of them. Again, I think they're going to put up a defense that, hopefully a defense in a running game that's going to make the quarterback position. and be about one or two plays down the field. And I wonder what they what they did last year, meaning Chottenheimer like with these guys, knowing that he had to kind of get them prepared for the next season. What do you mean, get them prepared for the next season? With well, you know, he knew that. No, no, wait, wait. Because I remember somebody said that we were I thought they were gonna have him for two. Okay. All right I just want to be clear that I was wrong. I was okay But knowing like and we wait and I was there Fuck So you're wrong. So, yeah. Wrong. Go ahead. Any... Any... Any day now. What the... Anyway. You know, I wonder if Farv was a help to these... Like, how much do you think that they absorbed from him? If anything, I wonder I think if you played with him for three years, you'd absorb something I don't think playing one year with a guy who just kind of came in and from all intents and purposes from every report Kind of stayed to himself kind of just did his own thing. I don't yes they watched him. Yes. They played games with him Yes, they watched his on the field stuff and his you know, his his love of the game and jumping up and all that Yeah, but, like, in practice, looking at film and stuff. I don't know. My gut feel is— I don't know either. We're guessing. My gut feel is it wasn't a bigger deal. I think a much bigger deal is having that same playbook that you practiced all training camp last year, you practiced all season, you saw happen on the field, that's the same training, same offensive coordinator, same plays, you're going to go back to this here and you know the system, you know the guys. I wonder if Rex is gonna let him open it up a little bit more even. I think he's gonna take chances. I think he's... Yeah. Again, because Baltimore liked to, like when I watched them in the playoffs, because you don't really get to watch a team other than the Jets too much during the regular season. I saw them play a couple times. but when you watch them play in the playoffs... They just threw the ball down the field like 40 yards at a time.
00 Jake: Yeah, like they would run, be very kind of conservative, playing with their defense, field position, and then boom, 40 yards down the field. I wonder if that's what they're going to just do because they don't really have. receivers. They're gonna have to do that if they're gonna pass it's gonna have to be 40 yards at a time. That's clearly a big need and we're gonna do one more episode before the draft. We'll probably do it the week of the draft and we'll talk about you know where the draft boards are and where people have us picking and what we think will happen. Macklin huh? Maclin yeah, I mean again wide receiver. I would say wide receiver. I'm personally now on the quarterback bandwagon I want water receiver or running back again if you're gonna pay big money to a guy you want him to produce and you always say Wide receivers don't produce your first year. Well, then don't go get one on the first in the first round Go get someone who will produce that's when you but that's when you have to draft Otherwise you have to sign him as free agents. I'll take plaques go birds for a one year. Oh really? Yeah, one year contract and put them in there. Yeah, the Mike Vick plexigle bursts No, Mike Vick who said anything about that. They could do the dick chain. No, no, no, they don't need Mike Vick But but if plexigle bursts Was available and they could sign him for one season I would totally take him for a year. I think bicycle purse, but what about Chad Johnson? Should we trade for Chad Johnson? Not anything of significance. I was second round around pig second round. No, no Randy Moss went for a fourth round We're in Ocho Cinco's not going for his check the second rounder. That's right. I'm sorry Ocho Cinco mr. Ocho Cinco Don't give me Randy Moss was a problem because mr. Ocho Cinco's just as big an issue as anybody Third rounder snow more no fourth round pick. That's what Randy Moss went for. That's what he should go for third round pick Maybe him if you give me him and a seventh rounder. I'll give Tory Holt. Why don't we why is anybody jumping on Tory Holt? Again, because he probably wants more than a year. These guys aren't, these older receivers, I wouldn't want to commit to more than even one year with any of them. Just because I'd want to go on a year to year basis with them. Yeah, but is that setting up the, here's the deal, as a new head coach, and you know this, we've talked about this, I think with like two new head coaches now, maybe, I guess maybe just man, Jeannie. Uh... You get a pass your first year you get you don't get a full pass like if you go one in fifteen Like what's his face did down in a Nick Saban did down not next haven't what's his face? Cam cam cam Cameron did down in uh in the dolphins, you know, you will get fired But you don't how do you go down to a dolphin? What? Down in the dolphins? Okay, nice. Nice try.
00 Jake: I think he's got semi-pass. He's certainly got the things to put together. He's got the pieces. Again, I'm really looking forward to defense. I don't know if I don't know if like Maybe Chad Johnson has more than a year left in him. Torrey Holt, I don't know if he does. And didn't he sign in San Francisco? Didn't he sign with San Francisco? I don't think so. I thought he did, for some reason. Let's use our trusty internet skills to see if he signed. Yeah, I mean, Chad Johnson's 31. He still has a year or two with him. Yeah, but he seemed to really slow down, you know? No, apparently Tori holds it.sign anywhere. Yeah. Anyway. Um, I don't know if these guys have much left in them. Receivers, I don't know, they kind of get old. All right, well, it'd be interesting if Lavergne's calls one to Cincinnati and Chad Johnson came here Kind of an interesting little flip that that would be I'm looking forward to You know again the draft I think is gonna be interesting. We will do more draft talk in our next episode we kind of want to call it cover the Cutler news talk a little bit about the the quarterback situation, which we'll talk about in the more in the draft news. Let's talk about a couple of things that are semi football related, but more Jets related. We certainly have, we kind of have like Jets off, you know, off the field news. There's three things going on that one that's a little... Three things. One's a little old. One's new and one's kind of, I'll give an update on. Sort of the old news is that the Jets, Woody Johnson and the Jets told basically their staff that they had a two week furlough this year in the summer that instead of firing people they decided to give people basically a two week unpaid vacation. A lot of people are getting outraged that, how is it a time that Woody's raising millions and millions of dollars from his team for the stadium and PSLs and all that and building 1.6 billion shared stadiums and paying players $20 million or whatever, spending over $100 million dollars in salaries can he then tell others the back office staff to take a two week vacation. And I honestly don't think that's a valid argument because one is to put the players on the field that make the revenue, one is to run the back office. And as we know, because we work in an industry that the back office doesn't necessarily always matter, you can... get rid of the back office and the people at the front, the people who are throwing the ball and catching the ball and bringing in the revenue, you got to keep them and pay them. The other thing is that your back office, you don't have to spend, right? If you're in a salary cap league, you got to spend your salary cap to be competitive. If it's $100 million, you basically got to spend $100 million, otherwise you're not going to be competitive. In the back office, well, you can have more interns, less interns.
03 Jake: You can have more marketing people, less marketing people. I also think, as someone who, again, works in industry and that has had a lot of tough times, if you gave me the option straight up, OK, here's your option, Justin. You can either take a two week vacation. unpaid, you can plan for it, meaning it's going to be July, whatever to whatever, two weeks, you got months to save for it, you know it's coming, but we're not going to do layoffs. Or you could choose not to do that and some of you people are going to be let go. I mean, honestly, wouldn't you rather go for the guaranteed, I know that I could save up for this or I might lose my job. I'd rather know that something's gonna come and prepare for it than lose my job. And I'm not even gonna answer your question. Okay. But I'm gonna say that I'm with the people that believe that how dare he, you know, tell people to go on an unpaid vacation. I understand it's better than saying X percent of you will no longer work like they did the NFL they laid off I get it. I understand in that sense he's being he's being fair and and and Kind about it almost but from I mean come on you watch him throw millions and Millions and even the word billion gets in there around And you know, I'd like to see how much money is he actually saving with those two weeks by telling those two weeks, those people to go somewhere for two weeks. I'd like to see the dollar amount just so I could see like is it that justified? Is it $2 million? Is it $20 million? Is it $500,000? I don't know what it is. What does it matter? It's a business. It's his business to run like a business. It's so unfair. I mean, it's, it, we also know that, you know, as great as the front office is, they, they at times could not operate without the back office. And sometimes you're right. There are times where it's slow, like the summer. for the NFL team where maybe not all the back office people are necessary at work at that time. But it's really crazy to say to people like, you know, I'm going to spend $48 million and guarantee this guy $28 million to save two over here. I'm going to save two over here by telling these people to just go away. It just doesn't seem right as a Yeah, ethically it just doesn't seem right. I understand from a business sense fine He's saving I again. I'd like to see the cost breakdown if it's the building shut down There's no air conditioning no no nothing no electricity going on and he really has it down to the diamond It's like we're saving ten fifteen million dollars. I'd be like
00 Jake: Okay, that's a business decision that I can live with but if it's pinch and pennies and saving you know But he wouldn't do it if you're just finishing parents. That's the whole point. It gives me the EBG. I get it. The PR alone, you wouldn't do it. But here's the thing. Here's the way to look at it. The problem is we're looking at it salary to salary. Someone in the back office salary and front office salary. What else do I say if it's back office versus buying steel to make cars? numbers. because I think we're comparing them as salaries, but really what the Jets do is produce a product. What that product is, is the team that goes on the field that plays, it's like producing, it's like grabbing steel and materials to make a boat to sell the boat. So you can't cut back on the steel. You can't say, you know what, we'll take 20% less steel because you can't put the boat together without the steel. But you can say the people who are marketing the boat and maybe some of the people who are answering the phones about the boat and call centers about the boat, maybe we'll slow cut down there. But you can't say, order less steel, order less wood, less whatever glue or whatever it is to make the boat. because You have to put you have to put enough into it to make that boat does that does that kind of make sense? Like that's the way I look at it. You can't does make sense, but you also don't have to yes You do to be competitive. Yes. Ah to be competitive. Why? You want to win championships? So your fans will keep buying your tickets and going into your games But what if people aren't there to answer the phone when your fans call you they don't care Oh, okay. Yeah, send an email. All right, we'll move on to something else. Talking about training camp. So after all this- Where are we? Forum, after all this forum park putting together this huge, beautiful facility. This is another bullshit thing. Well, apparently they left out the bleachers. And I don't think it. And they didn't leave out the bleachers because they're not going to hold at least the beginning of training camp at Forum Park at the brand new facility, which I was all psyched to go to. They're talking about moving it somewhere else, including up at some SUNY upstate. Cortland, let me tell you about Cortland, actually. My sister went there. And I've been there a couple of times. uh as a member of the sports information department at the school that i went to soon in brockport golden eagles um anyway they have a they have a phenomenal facility it was just built uh about five or six years ago it's brand new it's got field turf two fields uh on either side of a really nice grand stand it has a nice press box at the top of it it's actually really nice it has a video board it's actually very nice they have the dormitories there obviously because it's a college campus and it's actually a very big sports management school courtland they they pump out it's it's one of the bigger ones in the suny system
03 Jake: for a lot of people who work in the sports industry and they could get tons of interns and volunteers to work at the camp from all the college students that work there so it could be really benefit or go there so it could be really beneficial for the college as well to have that you know held there it's a really big program that the students can get a lot out of I think it's a great idea to put it on a college campus such as SUNY at Cortland. Well, what about your fans? The problem is it's four hours away. It's four hours away. What it does do is it can expand the fan base. I mean, it's what the Bills do up in Buffalo. They hold their training camps in the city of Rochester at one of the colleges in Rochester. I can't remember the name of it. That slips off my tongue, but they do it so that they can expand their fanbase out to a city that's about an hour and a half to two hours away. I understand Cortland's about three and a half hours away, but you know 45 minutes away from Cortland's only a little over two hours away from you know here, so You know, I can see them trying to expand kind of into a different kind of market space there. And then if the bills go away from Buffalo, like maybe they will, right? Then, you know, you're kind of expanding outward into the state of New York. I kind of get it. It sucks for us. It sucks for us. This is we're taking opposite kind of views on these two issues because you love training camp and you go to training camp. Yes, I think it's you know, it's fine to put it up in courtland I think it'd be great for the students of courtland. I think it'd be fine for the Jets Well, I mean to be honest and I said this in one of my posts somewhere on some message board I said to be honest if they win games they begin the playoffs I don't care if they go to Alaska for the training camp I personally will miss going to the games, or going to one preseason, I don't go to many, but if I go to one, I go to, you know, one a year. Yeah, you know, it'll be a bummer not to go, I really like going, or maybe it's a long drive, I probably wouldn't go anyway. It's a pretty long drive to the middle of nowhere. Yeah, I mean, maybe overnight. He's got nothing going on in Cortland. You would want to stay in Ithaca. Yeah, so anyway, they're moving and then the last thing we'll talk about actually got a couple you know, you wrote a nice little article on the uh Right after our blast podcast about the last beam of the new stadium being laid down in the psl Kind of give you a psl update um, can I just say before you go ahead and and give us the update. I kind of want to frame this for us because I know your seniority level of a, you know, jet season ticket holder and I really want to get your unique perspective on what's going on with the upper deck seats and how
05 Jake: people of, you know, at, I think it's some time in like the early 80s, after that... You're not guaranteed your seat basically upstairs that the upstairs seats the non PSL seats So to speak are going so fast It's so furious that people such as yourself who have an upper deck seat now Are probably not to be able to get that see almost almost definitely not Yeah, so why don't you go ahead and give us kind of the whole deal on the PSO. Sure, I mean kind of we got two situations going on here. One is that, so I'm a season ticket holder. I've been a season ticket holder since 2004, which gives me 2004 seniority, which is pretty bad, right? They're starting it in 1977. It's as far as they can go back in their records, blah, blah, blah. The way that they're running the system is They're going to start with that auction for the sort of club seats in the bottom that according to some sources went really poorly. Now they're selling out the club seats in the bottom, side and the bottom. After those, they're going to open it up and go back to seniority. based on your seniority, you got a playbook, you fill out your top three choices. Apparently it doesn't matter what you fill out in the top three choices or if you even sent it in, they're still going to go buy seniority, buy ticket holder, and they're going to go down the list from 1977 down to whatever. The guys who joined, you know, got tickets last year, and they're going to call you up and they're going to say, here's what we have available, and you're going to be able to pick from whatever they have available left. And then again, they're gonna be selling everything in the stadium. after they try to get rid of all their club seats starting May 1st. That's what I heard on the phone when I talked to my rep. So here's the deal. Basically since the prices of the PSL start at like $25,000 and go up to zero, up in the upper deck, people with seniority are going to pick... and you already are going to pick. You know to go up to the upper decks a lot of them because they have 10 seats to be at 10 seats And it's a $10,000 PSL and the tickets are going to $400. You know 10 seats. It's $4,000 a game. That's just too much. So Clearly going from like an 85 $95 ticket. So people are going up to The top levels and they're thinking and most people are You know projecting that basically if you're somewhere, let's call it in the 80s. Which basically means you have to now pay. Right, and let's do a comparison to the Giants. Giants are a little bit different. Giants just gave you your seats wherever you were and offered them back to you. They had a $1000 PSL on the top but basically it's roughly the same throughout the rest the stadium. They just went to people and they said here's the thing the Giants have just gone through their entire 125 thousand person waitlist
01 Jake: 125,000 person waitlist and called them all and still have PSL seats available Wow Think about that. That's how much people don't want to pay for these things. Yes, the Jets have a 11,000 person Wait, there's no effing way. I'm sorry. There's no fucking way I can curse on this show. That's true. That the Jets are going to get rid of all those seats without just stripping out the PSLs. And then the people that already move from the seats down at the bottom up to the top are going to get screwed. This doesn't sound. like it's gonna end pretty well i think here's the thing i think they will sell their psos i will sell they think they'll sell them all like when they get to you what are you gonna have the option to do well i'll tell you because it seems like most people are going for the cheapest way out so they're saying all right i'm going upstairs because that's free then the next level is whatever the cheapest PSL or $4,000 Fuck yeah, that's the cheapest one. I I think those are gonna go before they get to you They're gonna go to your thousand five they have four thousand and five thousand which are on the mezzanine and and on the bottoms and I don't think those will go before they get to me I honestly think those will be left and they're talking June July timeframe Because I think a lot of people are giving up their seats. They're going from 10 seats to five seats. They're going from six to three. Because the game price is still, even at the upper deck, is still $120, $125 a ticket. So you're right. A lot of people just had seats just to have them. And had a lot of them. So a lot of them. But then they farmed them out to people. And the Jets have another year and a half. So it's not like they have to get this done tomorrow. They can take their time. The economy will recover. That's true. I forget because the Yankees just got me in. The Yankees send back their tickets. They just got their act together. Three weeks before the end. I think they're going to have a hard time. I think time is probably their side now because the economy will probably get better. They are offering five and 15 year financing. thing, so the Giants are only offering three year financing. So, you basically paid within three years and that was it. Jets are offering 15 years. So, if you start to break it down and spread the PSL out over a couple of years, the real problem is definitely what I call the steps. You're going from zero to $4,000 of PSL. That's too big of a step. I like this in your already because I think it. I've been working with you for a long time. PSL. There's you still feel like well, it's not zero zero and four thousand is a huge gap
01 Jake: The other thing is the ticket prices ticket prices. I think go from like a 95 which are the kind of worst end top seats They go 95 then they go 120 125 for the prime in the top then they go to 120 on the lower end and the bottom and then they go to 400 for the club seats. And the problem with that, that's the thing, it's like people, to go from 120 to 400, it's like it's too big of a gap. You know, 225, maybe 250, 200. Yeah, that seat is not that much better. Well, I mean, they're club seats they've got. Interior things they got. But when I'm looking at my- All right, great, I'm at a fucking football game and I wanna be outside outside and yelling and, or- You know observing various Stutely. I don't want I don't want to be disrupted with Heat I don't want heat you're not gonna get heat so I don't want heat so that's where they are That's where the PSL process is. We'll see I mean, I'll let you know as obviously as we talk throughout the summer I'll let you know where I am. I send in my preferences. I Basically, I basically feel like I'm gonna be kicked out of the upper zone, I'm treating it like an opportunity to get to better seats. To pay the jets. And I'm willing to pay a PSO. And to be a little secure, you get a little security. If I can get a better seat and I have to pay a little bit for it, I'm willing to do that. I've saved money, I knew they were going to do this. But if I were to lose my job tomorrow, I'd probably go back on that choice. Anyway, so that's... It's a weapon in the will too, right? You put them in the well if you have the PSL you can put them in the well if you have the PS you don't have the PSL you can't put them in the well Alright, so then the last thing just we're gonna mention it right before the end of the show Jet Kingdom actually did celebrate its fifth year anniversary Last month so that's kind of a cool thing we just want to mention again New to the Twitter scene so follow us on www.jetkingdom or sorry Twitter.com slash jetkingdom or go to the crazy website of jetkingdom.com We will be posting Yes, does jetkingdom Dot-com have the ability to suck in the Twitter feed meaning like if every time we Jet Kingdom, the people who post the Jet Kingdom post on Twitter, do we have those show up on JetKingdom.com right there?
