17 Jake: Welcome to J. King podcast. Longest running New York Jets podcast ever. History of the planet. I'm Jake, and joining me for 334 times in a row. Boy, that number seems a lot. Uh, is Justin. How are you doing, Justin? Go Jets! J-E-T-S-S-S Jets! Win, win, win! Win, win, and you're out! Usually... we want the team to win. Usually when we're watching the game, we're rooting for them to, like, keep a lead. Um... I'm fine. Whatever. It's weird. It's kind of weird. You know, you watch the game and yeah, you're like rooting for them. While you're watching, you're legitimately rooting for them to win. And like the Raiders game, like where I was rooting for them to win and then like, at the end they just sort of lost. That's what I was expecting. Um, but that didn't happen here. Um, we got a surprise victory, uh, against the Rams of all teams who were like as hot as any other team coming into that game, and I guess they overlooked us or something, I don't know. We'll talk about, we'll get into the game in a minute, but like. I didn't. That was the worst I felt after a Jets win in a really long time. Really? I didn't feel that way. First of all, I knew we were going to win one game. Like I knew we're going to win one. I just didn't see it. No, we were going to win one. I've said it since week eight. I'm like, we're going to win a game. It's just it's the football. And we actually said You and I said, I think last podcast, we don't want to go winless. No, we didn't want to go in less like it sucks. And we don't want to be in that club. Let's let's I'll be the, I'll put on the positive hat. Here's some, you do that. This is David and Goliath. Literally the number one defense who gives up no more than 19.2 points a game and gives up no more than 200 yards a game. We did both against them on the road. winless team. We did that. So here's a positive positive that like a resume boost for Adam Gates, you want Adam Gates back? But here's the thing we've also talked about this all season. There is a thing of a hopeless team that people don't want to come to what you want to have is a losing team with a number one pick. who has a lot of upside. You want to have players who have upside that there's value in them. Did Sam put more, did he put more on his resume in that game than not? He actually did. Did he have the greatest game I ever know? But he went up against the number one defense, didn't throw a pick and won the game and scored more points, scored 23 points.
00 Jake: You always say, well, is there any points on the board? So there's a positive. So even if it's keeping him or trading him, he just gained a little bit more. Right? That's positive positive to there's more talent around there. This team, this defense who's a shit the worst events in the league or second worst can go up against one of the better offenses and shut them down. Great. So like there's positives to that we knew we're going to win the game and and you and I both agreed on the last podcast, we don't want to be a winning this team. We said there's only two teams in the history that have that we don't want to be in that club. So we're not in that club anymore. Not a doubt. Now we're talking about all the other stuff, which is about the draft picks and all that. But the actual game and the winning of it and surprising gives the Jets brand gives the Jets season a little bit more of a, Hey, look, the worst team in the league, the winless Jets went on the road. And remember that game? Like, I think it gives us a little bit of a, even if we lose the next two, which we should and hopefully will. that we lose next to it gives the team a little bit more of a bump. And it's like, okay, you know, but there's some talent on that team, case is gone, like everybody's gone is fine. But it there's more talent on the team. And there's more to work with than a team that gets shut out, or a team that goes, you know, 23 zero. So that's the positive spin, the only real bummer. The only bummer is the draft pick. That's the only there's another bummer. I mean, Well, they won the game and they also like, I don't even feel like they played that great. Like, isn't that weird? Like that's because you were waiting for them to lose. But if you look at the stats against the number one defense. Yeah, just hear me out. So like, I felt as when I was watching the game, like, I, they were up 13 nothing, right? And I was like, Ah. They're going to lose. And the reason why I said that to myself was because they should have been up 21 nothing. Like a good team. Like that second drive, they got the ball on the Rams. 27. Like we created a turnover. We got the ball or we blocked the pump, whatever that was, we got the ball in the 27 and we went six yards and kicked the field ball and took like a minute to do it. Our next drive. We got there. We started at the Rams 22 like these are three drives like two drives in a row that you're starting inside the 30. You're basically in the red zone. And all you get out of it is a field goal. Like they should have been up 21 to three at half. And then they could have been up like legitimately like 28 three by the start of the third quarter in the games over. So like what team are you talking about? I'm talking about a team that like. That's what they should have done. I mean, that's why I mean, I want to win with shit team who has not wanted. That's why I don't I don't think that they played that well and they still won, which is kind of scary. That's crazy. They played well enough to beat the number one defense.
00 Jake: I know, but I thought that they could have put on the road. More few more points. Few more points could have been put out. You get the ball, the 20 and you do nothing with it. You can feel it. That defense doesn't allow people to go over 20 points. We did. We got 23. I don't even think we played that good. Well, that's ridiculous. That is ridiculous. This team actually played pretty well. And I think that's, I got to write that in history books. Played well. Now there's still the negatives. Here's some negatives. You tried really hard. I'll give you that much. Negatives. Well, there you go. They haven't fallen and turned into a pile of poo. Here's negatives. For some reason, we still can't run. We still think that running Frank Gore up the middle every fucking year. Every attempt for Frank Gore is way better than three for Ty Johnson that everyone wants to see. Oh, god, it's just ridiculous. That's terrible. Our kicker came back and didn't miss three three field goals. I rewon. Yeah, I know. And, and again, for value on the thing, mims look good. Herndon looked good. Mims was invisible, man. I don't know what you saw that tells you Mims looked good. He wasn't. He wasn't there. Paramedin was a lot of it wasn't a lot of throwing. I mean, like there's plenty of throwing. It was spread around like Ty Johnson had six receptions. Crowder had six. Herndon had three. Mim said three. Brack Barrio said three. Like it's only doesn't know what to. like what to do with an outside receiver. That's just spreading the ball around and it's and it's obviously it's bad offensive coaching because we know how we know what that offense looks like. It's just shit. Again, it's first and whatever run up the middle for two yards run up and then it's like, oh, you're third and whatever now you're caught. It's it's a bad offense. Well, say I didn't heard him was surprising. He made like a nice catch in this game that was like, Oh, hey, look. This guy again, positive like, hey, look, this guy. And then again, whether you want Sam to be on your team next year or do you want him to be sold off for a pile of of carrots? He at least put on his resume a little bit like, hey, went up on the road against the number one defense in the NFL right now and didn't get didn't throw a name. I'll give him that. He didn't make any mistakes. He made zero. He played. Finally, we saw Sam play a mistake free game and we haven't really seen that. And what's number 99 on this side of the field? Oh, Aaron Donald very good. It's hard to talk about like a team that you were waiting for like three sack fumbles like Yeah, he got sacked twice. Fine. But like, still won the game. So I'm saying mostly positives. Mostly positives. I'll agree. Justin: Except for the draft thing. So look like- Jake: The draft thing's a negative. By the way, we're locked in. We're either getting the number one or the number two. We're locked in. All right. Let's talk about that in a second. Let's pick- Oh, okay. Play the game night of the game. Come on. First night might be the only night. Pick your night. Pick your play. Oh my gosh. Well, I mean, they won. So I have to- Think of this from a positive perspective, right? Not like play the game where like they screwed up, like like in and where they won the game and they should have lost.
02 Jake: Like that's what I have to do, right? I have to pick a positive play. Yes. Okay. In this game, I guess like... that blocked punt was pretty big early on. I think it set the momentum for the game. So I'm going to just say that blocked punt was kind of a big play early to set the stage for how the Jets were just going to be more aggressive in this game than the Rams. And that's kind of where it came down to. We won up front. It's weird. Yeah, I'm going to go with and your and your and your night. Quinnen Williams. Yeah, Q. Q played a good game. He's had a good season and it's been lost. That's a lot for an interior lineman. Like he's he's actually become. They were talking a lot about him during the game. He got hurt, unfortunately, and how he cut some weight got a little faster. Which you can see he's way more lean than he was last year. Basically he's playing under 300 pounds as opposed to over 300 pounds. It's like, oh, that makes a difference. So he's my player of the game. He's kind of everywhere and tough to block for them. I might play the game as just the first, it's the first drive, but it's also our first drive and touchdown. Like this is something I haven't seen all season. We make them go three and out. literally on the road, they get the ball three and out. We take the ball, go right down the field and score touchdown. Like if you said that on every first drive, if you said that well, but a touchdown, no, we don't because we have so many games without touchdowns, but go down and not just kick a field goal, but do a touchdown. I just that to me is like, that's the team I want to see that's again, let's on the road against the best defense in the league. Oh, we're the worst team in the league any given Sunday. It's the proof positive. And I have to give it to Sam. I'm sorry. Great. Is he the greatest quarterback ever? No. Does he move up from being below average to maybe a little bit below average? Does you see the stuff that you want to see? Did he go on the road to the number one defense and you know, on the West Coast and play a pretty mistake free flawless game if he played that type of game against any other team would we have won it? Yes, like if he plays like that, that's the that's the game. So he has those games in him. They're there It's just a matter of whether that's like is that one of every five games he plays or can we get that down to? He plays three of those games and then plays a a game where he has you know The two three interception games, but I rather is a pretty big play. I think it was in the fourth quarter made by our punter Braden Mann made a big tackle. Yeah, I did actually saved a touchdown. And that would I mean, in reality, that's kind of the play of the game, because that's why we won. I think if the Rams score that touchdown there, we don't win because. From behind in the fourth quarter is not where the Jets want to be. So, you know what? It would that would have been even worse, but Sam going down there and leading to.
00 Jake: game winning drive, that would have been, yeah. Anyway, so can we talk about this draft thing now, like where we're locked in? Sure. We're locked in. Well, we're locked in at top two. We don't know if we're number one or number two. Well, we're right now two. No, no, no. Right now we're number two. And we can't we can't drop to three. So it's Jacksonville and the Jets. That's one in two. The Bengals pull the win out on Monday night against the Steelers. I don't know how, but like they did it. And he gave him a baby. And he gave him Monday night. Whatever Steelers lost their last three anyway. So that basically locked. the Bengals into a better season than the Jets. They were never gonna pick a quarterback anyway. They have Joe Burrow there, who's injured now, but whatever. So like, it's also in the Jags, right? My Jags. And my Jags, apparently I didn't realize this. They won week one. They were one and O. So they've lost now like. However many in a row 13 straight. They're doing so like, yeah, they're due and they play Chicago this week, who's not very good and who's coming off a couple wins. Probably feeling pretty like good about themselves and maybe a little overconfident with Mitchell Chabrisky like he's not that good, but like. You got him starting now and feeling good about himself, but he's actually not that good. So you're going to go into that game over confident and hopefully the Jags can pull it out. And like we could get back into that pole position for the number one pick. It makes me feel better to think that we're going to be in that number one pick because it gives me that sense of security that we're going to pick. like that quarterback, right? We're going to pick Trevor Lawrence and we're going to go forward with Trevor Lawrence and then the Jets become more appealing, I think, to a head coach with the number one overall pick than they do with the number two, right? It's like you get to go pick this and if he is or not, who cares? But the hype is there. You get to go pick the Peyton Manning. You get to coach the Peyton Manning, right? You get to go coach the Andrew Luck. That's what you get to go do. And that's appealing for coaches. But as I kind of pointed out to you the other day, it's like, go check out that 2012 NFL draft and go redraft it and tell me which quarterback you're picking. I think if you go back, I didn't do the history, but if you go back and pick the number one quarterback and for the last 10 years, the number one drafted. And you look at every draft, how many times did you act? If you actually wanted one of the guys on that board, how many times did you actually want the number one versus the number, whatever, somebody else? So there is a curse to the number one draft pick, maybe 20 years. It's not a, it's a, it's not a, it's not even a 50 50. I think it's, I'm just making a number up. I think it's a 30% shot. Now, that being said the 10th, if you look at like the 10th spot of quarterbacks drafted at number 10 or 10 and below. My guess is the percentage chance of them being good is less and less and less. But there's so many I can just aim off the top of my head.
01 Jake: Number one guys who just turned into pumpkins. Not even playing. So I'm not convinced. And number two, by the way, like, if you look at that, James Winston, Marcus Mariota draft, right? They went one and two, and it was a big debate. Who should go one? Who should go two? Well, who cares? They're both backups now. Right? There's that there's also i think you have a good point about the year more you're more attractive team with the number one pick but you're forgetting we have to pick some of the first round and you pick in the second year and anybody else doesn't so that's a high amount of pics. Plus, we know what the draft chart is. Do you think that we could trade a 30 let's call it a 31 or 30 let's call it 2827 and a two to get to one? Sure could. Like we could move up from from two to one for probably that other pick. So I also imagine our second round pick is rather valuable. It's going to be towards the top of the round and those are cheaper, right? In first round picks, you have less guaranteed money, like less lock-in, less years, like people like that top of the second round because you're basically getting like end to first round talent for second round dollars, so to speak. So let's talk about the child. So yeah, I don't even know what this is. You clearly don't watch the Mandalorian. But I just know I have no clue. That's crazy. But anyway, everybody else in the world is watching the Mandalorian and he calls this thing Grodo, Gudu, Grodo calls him the child. Anyway, so I, for the first time ever in the history of man, Again. watched as to my life 48 years in running, watched a I didn't even watch the full thing I watched all the way through to like the fourth middle of the fourth because that point is just like kind of boring. I watched the Gumsen game. And here's my thoughts. So here's my advanced scouting has nothing to do with anything. Oh, you got okay, got it. Yeah, you watched Trevor Lawrence play football. I watched every snap until middle of the fourth quarter. Okay. My advanced scouting report. Jake's advanced scouting report. Jake's report. Here it is. He's never done this ever in his life. Here it is. That makes me an expert. He's watched a lot of TV. I've watched a lot of football, so I watch a ton of football and I pay attention to quarterbacks, so that I have in me. The... The pros he is a big lanky guy who see who can throw the ball very far and a half and he's very accurate like that's a very accurate passer you can tell he can move he is not gonna be easy to take down he looks a little skinny to me like i like to see an extra twenty pounds on him because i need really really not be able to be able to take down the uniform or whatever i'm. So from all that is great. I was like from a talent from a just build like it's the right build 6, 4, 6, 5. Like he's fixed. He can see over the entire when he's running with other players around him. He's the biggest guy. And, and smart runner. I like
02 Jake: that. There's a couple times when he was running and he just slid. He knew he was over he got the he didn't like you see a lot of even may feel like maybe he'll just try to get the extra yard and you're like you're gonna die someone's gonna hit you and kill you. Remember, if it's magic every time we'd run would be like, get the fuck down. You're gonna die. You're gonna poke your finger out and make us lose three games, which he did. So those are all the positives. I can see it. And yes, he looked, you know, as a leader, you can't really tell the leader, but he was, you know, he's from everything I was hearing on the announcements, like he is a natural leader. He's, he's not a raw, raw guy, but he's definitely like people circle around him and blah, blah, blah. obviously plays well, obviously has a winning track record. That's not to be excused. You know, not you're not going to argue with that. He's lost one game. And that was a big game ish, I guess it was not like it wasn't just a regular old. No, it was a game like they needed to win to get into the playoffs, which they did. That's my thing. I get to see more. Yes. He definitely get to see more. Yeah, absolutely. Now on the cons, as a matter of fact, you get to see him play Ohio State, so you get to see the two guys in the same game. Gonna be awesome. The cons, that offense where he just steps in the back and clap, clap and throws the ball is like, it just doesn't look like football to me. It looks like backyard football to me. I'm like, okay, you go back and you go and then the ball comes to you every single time. And then you either just sort of the option thing where you kind of hand it off or no hand it off or run with it. It's so not a sustainable NFL offense or a real NFL offense that you actually have to run that I worry that like, okay, great, he can do that. And maybe for a year, you know, you get some people, but that's not the guys I see 10 years down the line, you know, playing NFL football and winning games by being smart and whatever. I don't see Brady doing that. I don't see a rossberg doing that. I don't see Rogers doing that. I don't see breeze doing that. Like You know, so I know it's a simplified college offense and that's the way they run and that's their thing. But so it doesn't give me that kind of like, can he get he I think get him under center once or three times for the victory for the victory. Maybe it did seem to the victory thing. I was at the end of the half, I think, where you know, you just he just kneeled. I was like, Oh, he's under center. There we go. See, you're a man, Jeff. Like when you watch him play, like, was there a player or two that you can like pinpoint and say, oh, he kind of reminds me of that guy when he was young. Because I have two guys in mind. One is younger, one is like older. And they're both still active in the league, but... And then there's a third guy that he reminds me of, but just from like a size and stature and the way he throws the ball and he's retired. Give me all three and see if I agree. So the retired dude that he reminds me of is Vinnie Testiverde actually. He's like a big tall guy who has a nice arm and... If Vinny, Vinny was an amazing college quarterback. Was he the number one pick? Yeah, he was. He was great. And if he played, well he was a really good pro.
03 Jake: He wasn't an insanely great pro, but he had a really good career. And I think if he was like born now and played today, he'd be more of a runner than like he was a good athlete back Then you didn't run so he reminded me a little bit of any test severity from just a stature size the way throws the ball He reminds me a lot of Big Ben Big Ben was a lot slighter when he was you know, 20 years ago and he was drafted He wasn't as big as he is now, but he was as tall And he was way more Agile. Big Ben could move when he was young, and it was surprising because he was big. So he really reminds me of Big Ben from that perspective. And if he goes on to be as good as Ben Roethlisberger, then yeah, he's like a number one overall pick, right? Like Ben Roethlisberger's MVP of the Super Bowl. And the last one looks a little like Josh Allen to me. Yeah, I knew because he's tall, he's big, he's got the arm, he can run. He just and Josh Allen's menu, like sort of quarterback crush in the league. And he just reminds me of him. He's got all that stuff, you know, from a moxie perspective. And like he's got the arm, he can throw it and he can move. And he's tall, tough to take down. He looks more accurate than Josh Allen. I didn't watch him in college, but in the first couple years, we used to make jokes about John Allen's. He could only throw a rocket. He could never throw a touch pass and he would overthrow a receiver that was like just running along in stride and he'd like running back. So you just like hit them in the head. I agree with all those the other thing was is funny so much is game and you know the right hand you never throws interceptions and i know i had one do you. What are you doing there so the decision making he did when the like you're the greatest decision maker ever can i worry about that just from the offense is just the office just look like. backyard football to me and and his two big touchdowns were kind of just big blown touchdowns. They weren't like, it wasn't the lead them down the field, you know, play it was like, and I know this is college. I know this probably happens all the time. It was like, there goes that one guy. Whoof. There he goes. Touchdown yards. I mean, that's that that's how I didn't bother. doesn't happen in in in in in. It doesn't get achieved. Yes. If you have a good offense, it does like if you're the chief, I mean, how many how many touchdowns is Tyree Kill and Nicole Hartman have that are more than 50 yards. I feel like they're the ones that they get the shorter pass and they zip by everybody versus the bomb down field where he killed run past you regardless of where he gets the ball. So anyway, I thought it was good. I'll be interested to see the other number one. Yeah, watch them play each other. It's only two weeks maybe or next week. I'm not sure exactly when, but just check your local listings.
00 Jake: I think it's on New Year's Day. Usually that's when it is. Can't wait for, or at least that's when a lot of the bowl games are. I don't know when they're doing, what this year looks like in college, but you'll be able to see fields versus. Lawrence in the in a big game that matters and like see who can do what Clemson's the better team though So like you can expect Clemson to really win the game that you're gonna want to watch is that if Clemson wins in Alabama wins That's the one you watch the championship game and you see what he can do against Alabama if you can move the If you can move the ball against Alabama, like, all right, that's like a pro defense. This is the change that I, I, I, again, I can gently pay attention to that. The bowl you games used to be, you had to one bowl game. That was it. Now it's actually a playoff system. Correct. There's yeah. It's a four team playoff system that kind of just crosses over three bowl games. So like two of the bowl games are like the semi-finals and then there's the championship. bowl game. They've vacillated over the last like 10 years around like three different models for how to do this. Nobody loves it. It's never gonna be perfect and nobody will ever really like the way that college football does this. Especially this year because like there's a Ohio State's in it and they played like six games. And people are like, what the frick? Like, right? That's what they're six and now like we played nine games, 10 games. Like they played half a season. They don't they shouldn't be in this. But then you have these power conferences that, you know, throw their weight around and actually worth money. So it's like, no, we should have Ohio State in here and not like. Cincinnati. And it's like, okay, yeah, probably. But those things mentioned is the sugar bowl. It is Clemson, Ohio State, number two versus number three, Friday, one, one at 8pm. So the prime time New Year's Day at night. That's a nice one. That's a good one. All right, cool. Well, let's let's move on to the other things in our life. Oh, one more thought on Just comparing the two quarterbacks on the field, it was very obvious one of them is a higher caliber like oh guy He was or what what but it's just watching him versus watching Lawrence. It's like oh, this is not even close Oh, yeah, I mean that's one way to do it right you like oh, well that guy's a practice squad player. Maybe maybe Maybe I can't maybe This guy's a professional quarterback Yes, yes. From that point of comparing like to like like two teams are supposed to be two good teams. Like, okay, that guy knows nobody's doing he's running around. He's taking he's running out of bounds of the thing. He's not he's taking huge sacks like he just doesn't know what he's doing and the other team watching throw like just watch the arm mechanics like, Oh, that guy can't throw the ball 50 yards on a line like Lawrence can really just chuck it. Anyway, all right. Let's move it on. Let's move it on. Moving on. All right. So pick them. I do. You do last week. How you doing? I did. Oh, that's what we talk about every week. So last week, which was week 14. Nope,
04 Jake: week 15. Geez, fine. Bye. The winner of the week was just in case with nine wins. That was the highest. Everybody else didn't even got an eight. Oh, actually, you got an eight. Good for you. Good for me. So low in the rankings. It doesn't matter. Sam BAM. Thank you, ma'am. It's still in the lead at 114. I am way down at 102. Can't probably win at this point at all, but at least I can make a good showing. I'd like to get up to positive points. So I had seven last week. All right, let's get to this week. All right, we have football on Friday, Christmas day, we have football on Saturday, boxing day, we have football on Sunday, football day, we have football on Monday, we have four days of football. God, we have football on Christmas day? I kept seeing that ad on like, I think we have Christmas day at 4.30 Eastern. So, enjoy that. Like, I guess I'll enjoy it. Um, is it a good game? Oh yeah, New Orleans, Minnesota. I can get behind this game, absolutely. So let's talk about it. So we have New Orleans hosting Minnesota. Inola, they're favored by seven Drew Brees's. back Minnesota, I think got knocked out of the playoffs last week by Chicago. That's a bad loss. I think that'll carry over with them. New Orleans favored by seven. I like them to kind of be in the spotlight here on Christmas and win by like 14 or something. Yeah. Seven, not enough. Definitely. Noah for the win. Minnesota is out of it. All right, Saturday we have a handful of games. We have like a whole day on Saturday. So we have a one o'clock, a 4.30 and an 8.15, which is my favorite. If they were good. Saturday of like, just Saturday's Boxing Day too. So like, you know, huge, huge matches over in the Premier. Like 7 a.m. turn the TV on and just sit there all day watch football. And then do something better. Okay. I've seen you have a life and that's your life. I mean, that's pretty good. Um, good Saturday if you ask me. So, all right, Tampa is going to Detroit and Tampa is favored by nine and a half. This jumped from seven and a half. Is, I don't know why like is Stafford not going to play or something? I don't know. I think Tom Brady figured something out in the second half last week. Oh, and there are there are nine and five team going up against the five and nine team. So it's not like there are, you know, it's a lot of points there. Nine and a half is a lot of points. Yeah, I don't know. I've stayed away from them for most of my pick-ups, but I will go with Tampa this week. They're tricky. But they may be like coming together at the right time, which can be scary for the NFC. All right, Arizona, this is 4.30 on Saturday. Arizona's hosting San Francisco. Arizona is favored by five. This is weird. Hasn't San Francisco been playing their home games in Arizona anyway?
02 Jake: So it's like San Francisco at Arizona. A little weird, sort of home. I'm going to pick Arizona. I think they'll win. I think they'll win by more than five. They've got to fight to get into the playoffs. This is like where you look at that stuff and you're like, who's got to win and who's just losing. Right. San Francisco's five and nine. They're not going anywhere. Eight and six. Yeah, you got to win. So yeah, I agree. Arizona's going to win. The NFC is kind of wild. We should... next week we'll look at it and be like, who's gonna make it? All right, here's a big one. I am, yeah, fuck me. Not gonna talk about that. Yeah, you did. Fuck. Anyway, it's Saturday night, we'll enjoy that. Kansas City is hosting Atlanta. This is our first one o'clock game on Sunday. Kansas City is favored by 10 and a half. And it's that half. that's making me pick Atlanta because I think I do believe Kansas City will be winning at some point by 21 points in this game, but I think they will win by seven. I don't think so. I think Kansas City is one of those teams that like they can score at any point. They're, you know, that, that, what is that, that BAM team that just, just one broken player in there. So I just feel like they can get on the. fault to do something like, oh, we're just going to run, run, pass, and then it's a touchdown. So like, I'm thinking, well, they lost their running back. Yeah, I saw that. So like, maybe on Bell, I think has to like step in and start playing for them. We'll see if what he's got left in the tank or if they just save him for the playoffs or something. All right, Indy goes to Pittsburgh who's lost three in a row now. That's a lot of games in a row and you start 11 and 0. Yeah, I've got Pittsburgh getting one and a half. Yeah, in Pittsburgh in. Yeah, this is like a I see this as a retro game. I think they're going to I mean, I know India supposed to be okay or good. Let's see there. Oh, they're good. I just I don't know. I feel like Pittsburgh. This is their bounce back game. I can't see them losing four on a row. For a row after like blowing into Cincy. No, I got a real team coming into your building. Like take it to your your piss. This is a where they call it like a not toilet game. What are those games where they burial game where they just take the old game and they bury it and they just move on. Oh, yeah, let's move on. Let's take this football and bury it. And the answer. Yeah. Didn't Rex do that once? I feel like Rex buried a football. Maybe. Maybe it was a lot of wild shit. Maybe it was the uh, the basketball game. That's the one I would've buried. He did a lot of weird shit. It might've been the 45-3 game that we lost. Ugh. And then went on to like really do some good shit that year. Eh, whatever. Alright, Chicago at Jacksonville. Chicago's favored by 7.5 and um, I know who we're both picking. Let's go Jags! Let's go Jags, no question. Yep, that's a pick with the heart right there. Man, the Giants are on at one o'clock,
00 Jake: so that's a thing in New York. Baltimore hosting the Giants. Baltimore favored by 11. Do we know who's starting for the Giants? Is it Colt McCoy or is it Daniel Dunes? No idea. I'm making this pick assuming it's Daniel Dunes. And I'm picking the Giants because 11 is a lot. The Giants defense is actually pretty decent. A lot of them is a lot in Baltimore's kind of started really strong this year, but hasn't hasn't been keeping it up and they have to fight to get it in the playoffs. So they do. They actually are going to win, but I think they're going to win, but not by 11. Both of these teams need to win like the Giants consider win the division at like whatever they are, five and nine or something. I've been done that they're right there to win the division like. It is absurd. It's fucking bullshit. I mean, finally, the Patriots are like what, six and eight or something, right? Yeah, they're out. And what? We have to have the bills at like 11 and three and the Dolphins at like 10 and five or whatever the fuck they are. Like, like, finally the Patriots are below 500 and we have to deal with this shit. Like, come on. That's bullshit. Alright. Anyway, last one o'clock game. Houston is hosting Cincinnati. The line is nine. It hasn't moved. I'm gonna pick Cincinnati. I don't know, just for the sake of it. I mean, nine points. Like, why should Houston be favored by nine points? What are they? Not good enough to be favored by nine. I agree. All right, we have the Chargers hosting Denver. The Chargers are favored by three, I like the Chargers. Why only three? That seems a lot. Yeah, I don't know. Both teams have the same record, but they're going in complete opposite directions. Denver's not going anywhere, and I think the Chargers have a quarterback. The Chargers. Yeah. All right. Washington is hosting Carolina. Washington favored by two and a half. I have Washington winning this game. I think they'll win it for Ron Rivera. I think that's a thing. Like, Ron Rivera got fired by Carolina. I think he's going to get that team. Riled up, ready to go, win that game, get into the playoffs against my old team that fired me. Let's do it. Like, that'd be my story. Like, it's a shitty team. There's less than a field goal. I'm just gonna take the home team. That's it. Alright, Philly at Dallas. Looks like Carson Wentz is done in Philly. That's crazy. Isn't it though? It's not. What was his pick? Was he one or two? He was two. Gough was one. One, two. And when it happened, I remember both of us saying, wait, we like Wens. Yes. Over Gough. We both liked Wens over Gough. And early, it looked, that looked right. Yes. Now it's hard to tell. I mean, Philly did win a Super Bowl. Wentz kind of got there, but he didn't win the game. But he had a great season. I had a great season to get them there. You know, that was an awesome season by Carson Wentz. I don't know what happened to him and that team.
03 Jake: Weird, same coaching staff, same offense. What happened to that team? But Jammy Hurds is starting now, and he won the game. Or he didn't win, but he looked good. And he played well the week before when he replaced Wens. And Wens is on record. He's like, I'm no backup. Like I'm a starter. So trade me, release me, whatever the fuck you got to do, but like, or start me. Like that's it. And I don't blame him. He's a young guy fighting for his job. But anyway, Philly two and a half at Dallas. I like Philly. This Jalen Hurts thing is like real for now. Yeah, not real enough for me at Dallas. I'll take Dallas. Not that I believe in either one of these teams. All right. Now we have a pretty good one here. This is, I think this would be maybe the prime time of Philly. Dallas always gets on TV somehow. But Seattle's hosting the Rams. I would love to watch this game. Seattle's favored by one and a half. The Rams coming off of brutal loss, like probably one of the worst losses of the year for any team. Seriously. And Seattle is just clinched the playoffs. So I think for some reason, the Rams are just going to like take it to them here because Seattle just turned away. Yeah, yeah, and the Rams just got it took it to them by the worst team in the league. So I'm gonna pick the Rams and I'll take point and a half. No, thank you. My Seahawks buddy texted me like, thanks for the win because he, you know, that was a huge Rams. I don't know the Rams did not look impressive enough for me to like watch us play them watch Seattle. We just played Seattle. We just played the Rams. I'm just judging from like how they looked against us. Yeah, I know. But that's just like Sunday, right? Yeah. I'm saying that might just be it. That might just be a game. You can't take out the ball and bury it like you just lost to the undefeated or sorry, the the winless jets. The world often teaming own in your own house. They came in and they beat you with like backups all around. Yeah, I'm gonna go Seattle at home every day all day. All right. We got a good one Sunday night. I think it's a good one. I think it could be a Super Bowl preview, actually. We have Green Bay hosting Tennessee. It's three and a half. Because it's a half, I'm going to take Tennessee. Yeah, I don't know. I just don't think I've seen Tennessee play all year. I never watched one of their teams. I know their record is their record. I can look at it. It's like 10 and four. They're surprisingly efficient on offense. It's surprising. It's like, wait, you just scored 30 points. How'd you do that? Like every week. It's like, how did this happen? You would know. I'll take Green Bay. I like them to win by more than three and a half. All right. And then Monday night, we're not going to talk about here because we'll spend another minute or two because it's an AFC East matchup. Yeah, it is.
00 Jake: with an interesting line, like everything's in the upside down here. So all right, we're going to move on to the AFC East as soon as I click save here on this thing. All right, good job. All right, let's do it. So we have Miami going to Las Vegas. And I think I said that this was Saturday night, right? Yeah, so this is Saturday night at 815 on the East Coast. You can watch Miami go to Vegas and Miami's favored by three. I think Vegas is the last. Like, I think they're the team that has the worst record that can still make the playoffs, if that makes sense, right? They're seven and seven and they're still mathematically alive. If you go nine and seven, you can make playoffs in the AFC. It's going to be unlikely though. Miami is one of the teams that are ahead of them that they need to catch. So this should be a pretty competitive game, I think. It's a primetime game. You got a rookie quarterback in there in Tua who's got a lot of pressure on him. And he didn't play very well in the first half of last week, but they did turn it around and win the game. Vegas is getting three points. I don't know if it's Mariota or Carr. That would actually make a difference for me, but yeah I'm gonna just go ahead and assume that it's gonna be mariota actually because card didn't hurt his grind there and I'm gonna Pick Miami to win I think it's gonna be low scoring like it low scoring ish. I think it'll be Whoa, that didn't go where I thought it was gonna go. I think it's gonna be 22-17. Hang on while Justin learns how to... 22-17 Miami. I actually think Raiders, I mean, yeah, so right now, Dolphins are in the hunt and the Raiders are in the bubble, if you will. So they're still in the hunt of the bubble. They win against the Dolphins. That puts them in a better position. And it kind of puts... dolphins back into, you know, out of it. I just I don't know. I'm just not a huge believer into it. Maybe it's because I don't know. I'm just not a huge believer. You don't watch college football. So you're not aware of like what he did there. Yeah, I don't care. So I'm not a huge believer. I actually think I think I think the way that we destroyed them in this game. I just think that they I don't know. It's just my gut. So I think Raiders win 30 20. I don't care who quarterbacks the Raiders. I really like that Dolphins coach. I think they made a good choice. Yeah. Pisses me off. They hired Adam Gaze, hired this guy and we hired Adam Gaze. Oh yeah. Well, that's the goal. Actically stupid. I don't care who they hired us hiring. Get him. Gaze is the worst decision. The Jets have made whatever, whatever coach was hired in the same year that we hired Adam Gaze, like Mike Vrabel. Oh, he might have been the year before.
00 Jake: Anyway, but this guy for Miami, like what the fuck? I mean, I know I know New England guys are never going to come to the Jets while Belichick is there, but why would they go to the Dolphins then? Like doesn't make sense to me. Anyways, X game speaking in New England. So this is another Primetime game for the AFC East. This is the Monday Night Game. So we have Buffalo, who's been in Primetime like a ton this year. And they're entertaining as hell. So it's kind of nice at New England. And... On the road, Buffalo is favored by seven points at New England. Like when was the last time that happened? It's got to be 20 years. So Buffalo is good. They haven't clinched or did they? They did. No, they won the division. They've clinched it. They won the division last week. Big, big, big, big deal in Buffalo. I think they're probably fighting now for that number one seed if I'm not mistaken, right? They're in the second seed right now. It's Chiefs 13 and 1, Bills 11 and 3, and it's viewers 11 and 3. So they're two and three that it matters. They don't know going into this game whether they have a chance at number one still or not. Right. Chiefs win, they have no shot. Chiefs win, they have no chance. So. Either which way, though, I think they try to take it to New England, because why wouldn't you try to really take it to a division rival? Seven points is a lot, though, in New England. I don't have it in front of me. Do you have like... They've played already. What was the score the last time they played? Oh, I don't know. All right, forget it. I don't know. I just think the bill is taken to them. They're really good and Cam Newton can't move the ball. So Yeah, he's not just gonna throw so you just kind of have to stop the run against doing them at this point And that's like a very one-dimensional so I think the bills can handle that and I think man they score so I'm gonna go 26 to 13 bills I actually think this will be a blowout. I don't think this will be actually that entertaining unless you just wanna watch New England implode. I predict that Camden will get benched again. And I think the Bills will just run away with it with a crazy wacky score, 33 to 15. Let's go Buffalo. All right, now let's get to this game. So this is the third time in three years that Say again, this very winnable game, this very winnable game, although it's not. I don't know if it's winnable. It's winnable. I guess every game is winnable. If you just watch that team play last week, you have to say now any game is winnable. Like that was. Yeah, sure. Find your name that day.
00 Jake: Yes, if you say to me, Justin. the defense is going to play like that every week. And the offense is going to play like, and they're not going to turn the ball over. And whatever else happens happens, right? They're just not going to turn it over. They're going to be very like safe with the ball. Yeah, sure, we could win. But the defense last week was kind of like the key to it all. Right. They shut the Rams down. That's a tough team to shut down. They stop them from running. And that's the key here. Cleveland's a running team. They're a run first team and everything is based off of that. And Nick Chubb really gets going. And then they bring in Kareem Hunt and he gets going. And these guys can catch the ball out of the back. They're a big part. Those two running backs are a big part of this offense. So stopping that run game for Cleveland. is going to be the key because you kind of have to do it throughout the whole. They're stubborn about it. They're going to continue to try to run the ball on you. And then play action opens up and all that stuff that Baker does in the backfield where he's like moving one way, moving the other, faking off of like play action and like weird little screen passes and like 20 yard passes to like Austin Hooper down the seam, whatever that all goes away. If you. stop the run. I just don't know if we can. Cleveland is a really good run team. The line is nine and a half. I think it will be closer than that in a weird way. But we've played this team now. This will be the third time in three years. It's the rookie year of Mayfield and Darnold, the second year of Mayfield and Darnold, and this being the third. And every time, Baker's looked way better than Sam out on the field. Every time. Every time. So I don't see why that changes. I'm going to go... I think we give up some points here. I'm going to go 30. See you next week. 13. Yeah, interesting. This the Cleveland jazz matchup will always for now for me, I mean, for the Sam Donald history books will always be that first year where he wasn't the starter and we were destroying them like Taylor, Taylor could not run, he could not go anywhere. We were just stopping left and right. We heard him. It was right before half or at half. And then in comes fucking Baker Mayfield and won that game. And I will I mean, that game is just gonna be stuck in my head forever. Last year, they destroyed us. That was a Thursday night game. Remember? Yeah, no, I remember watching it with you. It was before COVID. We were watching it together going, Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. It was September 16th too. So it was so I sorry, no, September 20th. So we three or week four. Super early. Like this is like the get to know saying they may were not starting Baker right off the bat like we did. They were starting to run Taylor. So I, you know, I'm not gonna go with the I'm not gonna pick on the draft. I'm
03 Jake: not gonna pick on the season. I'm not gonna pick on the head coach. I'm gonna pick on the Jets. And I think we have every right to win this game. Again, what I want to have happen or not, I'm never going to pick against the Jets. But I think this is a game that's winnable. We just got a huge boost. We just showed that we are a team that can beat the best defense in the league. And I think we have a shot to win this game. I don't necessarily believe in Baker as like the second coming of, you know, Montana, so I like a little revenge. I like a little beat down. I like us winning this game. I don't think it's gonna be high scoring, but I think we can win this game. I just don't it has to be one of those. It has to be a Sam on game and defensive on game. Sam on good. It's those. And sometimes it's the turn of the ball, right? Sometimes it's just the three dropped interceptions that he had to eat two weeks ago. That's like, Oh, he looked okay. But you know, the defense dropped three of his interceptions. I don't know, I could see us coming back. I'd like to win this game, not for the draft, not for the quarterback. But I would like to win this game. I'd like to be able to beat them. And I'd like to see Sam versus, you know, in my heart of hearts, I'd like to see Sam versus Baker and just Sam outshine him six to one. So I'm going to pick the Jets to win. I think it's just winning. Same score as last week. 2320. Cuz run it back. I should have made a joke. It should have been 2021. I'm gonna change it because that's funnier. It's 2021. We win by a point. And that's it. So all right, that'll wrap us up. We have a good long episode here. 50 minutes of pure enjoyment. We will maybe be next back next. You need to wallow. wall and what the win the loss the win loss win loss whatever again the history books i was very it was very unsatisfying win sometimes you know it was the most least satisfying victories that i've ever witnessed it was like great one just want fate to take over and it's like when sam dropped to us and everything fell in our way to get that kid everything fell. If you went back to all the little scenarios, we had to be super terrible that season. Then we had to do this. Then we had to trade this. Like we got everything we wanted. We were planning for that for an entire year. Suck for Sam started the year before that draft. Like the summer before that. And here we are looking at like sucking for another quarterback. Part of me is like, yeah, you just because the fans, everybody wants this one kid doesn't mean that kid's going to work out. So Like sometimes like leave it to the one two pick and we hit the number two kid and maybe the number two kids 10 times better I don't know. So we'll see. Anyway, that'll be a fun game to watch Um, but anyway for now we're gonna say well, maybe back next week, maybe not no promises Um, but as always it's justin and jake saying let's Go Japs!
21 Jake: you
