16 Jake: This is the Jet Kingdom Podcast, episode number 11 for Saturday, November 3rd, 2007. In comes Kellen. Well, welcome to the 11th episode of the Jet Kingdom podcast. I'm Jake and across the Digital aisle I have... This is Justin, still hanging in there. I've noticed I was listening to some of the other podcasts around the digital area. We like to call it the Internet and a lot of them are just like, I don't even know why I keep doing these podcasts. We're just losing. I think I said that last week. We're seeing it and everybody else is saying it in the same way. So let's get right started. We have a lot to conquer on this Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Oh, we're on Saturday. We've been lacking again. I think it's better if we do shows on Tuesday, but you know, life gets in the way. So we end up doing it on Saturday. But it gives us the ability to talk about things with a bigger perspective. We get to go. Yeah. We have stats. We have stats, we have the latest injury news, and we've almost forgotten the week that was. Yeah, which is a great thing. So let's talk about the week that was. The Jets lost to the Buffalo Bills in what was the season ending for both the Jets' playoff hopes and... Probably Chad Pennington. So, I mean my first reaction again after the game was just pain, misery. I mean it was the most boring, hurtful, bad game I've seen in a while. I mean 3-3 up until the fourth quarter. I mean what game is that? It was absolutely boring. That's all for this video. If you enjoyed this video, please like, comment, share and subscribe for more content. I'll see you next time. I don't know. I mean, I don't know what to say about it other than... Justin: It was really, really boring. It was... It was... I'm not a vocal fan at the games, as you know. Yes, I know. I usually sit there and just very focused and contemplative. But this game just forced me to just sit there with my head in my hands. Like, someone do something... exciting like they literally played this game between the between the 30s yeah like not even between the 20s it was really awful it was hard to tell whether Jake: our defense was actually stepping it up and making a ton of plays they did some stuff or it played pretty well actually or was that the you know Buffalo Bills offense as bad as they looked I mean well they stink too but something has to Justin: give when the really crappy offense plays a really crappy defense I mean Something has to give. Our defense actually looked pretty good, aside from one play. Jake: Yeah, I mean we can talk about, I guess the big plays. The big play, which is the one that's killing us every week, is this kind of mistackle.
07 Jake: This mistackle and run for 75 yards. It's, again, Curtis against the Philadelphia Eagles. It's Plexico doing it to us. And this time it's Lee Evans. And basically, Rebus was going for the ball and didn't get it. He just didn't get the ball. He didn't pull it away. And Evans made one of these plays that actually was a play reminding me of the game last year against the Patriots when Kachri did almost the exact same thing. It was up in the air. He pulled it down. huh? Justin: Very similar. Yeah, he pulled it down and instead of going down he just kept running and then actually got hit more as opposed to Lee Evans who just stole the ball out of Revus' hands. And later saw replay and I mean he was just more of a receiver clearly. Jake: And I think Revus has that. has that problem where he is going for the interception. He's not going to block the pass. And I think if he would move a little bit, if he's going like 75 interception, 25 block pass, I wish he'd moved to more like 50% block pass and 50% interception. Interceptions are great, but not if you don't get the ball. And not if you're so going for the interception that the other guy. has a chance to get it. I mean, your first job as a corner is to get that ball down on the ground, make it a no play. Because that's a bigger thing than, you know, well, what happened, which is he misses the ball and he misses the tackle. And that's the worst case scenario, because then score. And that was a winnable game. I mean, 3-3, all we needed was one more field goal, and we would have won the game. So it was really good. Aside from that. Justin: one play. The defense played pretty great. Just did get his first career pick earlier in the game. Yeah, he did. Harris stepped in and looked to be a pretty decent force in the middle as far as stopping the run. 10 tackles, 7 assists, unbelievable. Yeah, I mean, he played pretty decent in the middle and he held the defense collectively held March on Lynch to only 80 yards. on 21 rushing attempts and you know some other guy named Wright, I don't even know the guy's first name, had another 12 attempts for only 25 yards. So the defense, they played really well as far as stopping the run and aside from that 185 yard pass they actually did stop the pass too. So they played pretty decent. Jake: without Jonathan Vilma. Yeah, they stepped it up without Vilma. Revas even had a nice come around the end play where they sent him after the quarterback. It was nice to watch them kind of blitz. He blitzed on like three or four straight plays. Yeah, it was nice. Justin: But he did get a rushing the passer penalty. Jake: That's true. Justin: Which I think was a tiki-tack a lot of the time anyway. I couldn't tell. I was there. thousands of feet away. Jake: Way up in 335 with me. Yeah, so end of this game, you know, it's it's I guess the biggest thing to come in this game
00 Jake: is not the loss. 13 to 3 is not the biggest part of this. Again, it is the total capping of the season now. We've lost to the Buffalo Bills twice. Justin: Um, and that makes me want to throw up in my, uh, throw up in my mouth. Hate losing to the bills. I hate losing to them twice. Jake: Realistically, we could probably beat the dolphins, but is it true? Yeah, they suck. But the Patriots are going to wipe the floor with us. And so we're, this is, this is going to be one of those games. The score could literally be 75 to two, three. No, you wouldn't get it. If it would be three. No, unless they like fumbled it into the end zone. Um, you don't do that. So I will say that the thing that the I mean the big thing out of this game Which is what came you know basically a couple days after is that Chad Pennington is gonna take a seat and We have a new cornerback to start up and it's telling clemens time and the offense was horrible once again Justin: It's apparent Chad stinks and thank God he was finally benched. I mean, you can say, yeah, Clemens came in, he threw two picks in three minutes. But you know what? I mean, at that point in the game, the game was like it was damn near over, even though it wasn't. It was like it would have been nice to see him actually move down the field and stuff, but being put in that position is pretty difficult. And at this point. I think Chad is a serious liability on the field. He can't throw the ball more than like 10 yards. And we'd be lucky to get like a third or fourth round pick for him at this point. Jake: Yeah, I totally disagree. I don't think Chad is the reason we lose these games. He's such a liability. But he's not. He's not a liability. He didn't even run. You can't even run a normal offense. But he didn't have a bad game. Yeah, he did. No he didn't. Yes he did. No he didn't. He didn't have a bad game. He had 13 oblations for 106 yards. But it was vanilla. He wasn't the reason we lost this game. The offense is vanilla because he can't throw the ball. Well we'll see now. Again, I think it's interesting. Again, I'm a Chad supporter. I do think he should have been benched but I don't think that when you lay out all the Thank you. The blame is I like to say scooping it out and putting on everybody's plate. I don't think he gets as much as the most fans want to give him, which is that the defense has problems, the plate calling has problems, the offensive line has problems, the running game has problems. And if you think that all those things go away by putting on one rookie who started in one game, you're wrong. And then we're going to go with it. Justin: Oh, but you got to look at, I mean, the running game was fine this week. It wasn't that bad. I mean, Thomas Jones had a decent game. Washington had a couple of decent runs. But when you run plays, and instead of being able to make the half, you know, the difficult squeeze it in their throw, the guy always chooses to just dump it off for two yards. Always takes that option. Jake: Always. Please. And and yeah, but part of the reason they he was doing that was because he was pressured the hell Justin: He always always takes that option there are guys that stand in there take it and have the arm to make the throw and
01 Jake: There are guys who can't and he's one of those guys who can he was sacked three times in that game The guy was being pressured. He was dumping it off a lot of time because he didn't have a lot of time to look around Again, I don't think he's the future, but I also think we as podcasters should be out there talking about how great Chad is so we can get a better pick for him. Justin: I said we'd be lucky to get a third or fourth round pick. Jake: No way. We'll land a second, if not a first. Justin: I don't think so. Jake: Someone and I think the two candidates that I see as being huge is Casey They don't really have a great quarterback there and they could use a you know Someone solid if they had a great running game and a great offensive line I think Chad could do well there or the Bears the Bears are someone who need a veteran quarterback Absolutely a great a great defense and couldn't throw the ball in Chicago. Oh, he plays the Meadowlands. He can throw the ball. He's won games. Yeah, he can't throw the ball. Alright, you're turning into one of those just rar, and everything's bad in Chad Pennington's socks. His arm is shot. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. So we have killing. If I'm with bears, I don't even want him. Because he can't throw the ball at home. We'll see. We'll see. Kellen Clements is coming in again. I hope for this guy to do better. I can't wait to see what he has. I'm excited about this game in that I'm looking forward to seeing what this guy puts up. Can he actually turn it around? Can he win half the games left? Can he do something amazing like win against Cowboys or New England or Tennessee or Casey or Steevers? Can he do something big? and show us that this is the guy that we can rest our worlds on for next year. We could pick up some other person as a secondary, but basically trade away, which is trading away some of the past. I think this year you will see Chad go, you'll see Dwayne Robinson go, and you'll see Vilma go. Those three people don't fit the type of offense they want to play. They are, you know, the nose tackle. Justin: Two defensive players. You just named two defensive players. Jake: I know. No, I'm saying they don't fit the off... Chad doesn't fit the offense that... that Schottenheimer wants to do. And the defense doesn't fit the 3-4 that... that... that... that... that Mangini wants to do. I also think you'll see Sutton go. I think you'll see Sutton out because... Justin: Yeah, Sutton's like a... like a scapegoat. See a sca... Jake: But get someone who really wants his three, four. Let's get someone in here and let's make this a, you know, let's get the personnel to play the team. Again, a lot of people saying, you were saying, actually last week, I guess I'm thinking about when I'm listening to the podcast, you know, saying that you got to fit the scheme for the players and I totally disagree. If you think you have a scheme that works, fine, then go out and get the people to play that scheme. You know, that's what this, that's what it is. you build the scheme, you build the team over a couple years. You keep to your scheme and if that scheme is really what wins championships, then you build it. You don't just stick to the 4-3 because you got a bunch of 4-3 players even if that's not the one that you think is going to win. Anyway, that's on. We now have Kellen Clemens and we can go right into this week's game which is against the
03 Jake: Redskins. skins. I mean... Do you want to do our Night and Fool segment? Oh, our Night and Fool segment! God, I'm even forgetting. You know what, so far in the week, I'm forgetting our own segments. Yeah, let's do some Nights and Fools. You go first, give me a night and a fool. A night and a fool? A night and a fool. Justin: Oh, okay. I will give you my night first. Last week I picked the whole defense. Yeah. week Now pick the defensive line as my knight. Your knight, okay. I say the defensive line, maybe the front seven. They played a really good game. They finally got some pressure on the quarterbacks. They stopped the running game. They played really well. Aside from that 85 yard touchdown pass, the defense played phenomenal. And that's why my fool is Dorell Rivas, sorry to say. He played a decent game, but he did have, you know, he had his first career interception, but he did have roughing passer penalty, and he was the guy who gave up that 88 5 yard pass, which was the play of the game. So, sorry to say, but Rivas gets my fool of the week. Jake: My night this week is going to be someone who I think is going to get a lot of nights for the rest of the season and probably in the next season and the season after that. That's David Harris. David Harris came out, started in basically the quarterback position of the defense and you know was all over the place. He had a sack. He had 10 tackles. examples. the guy was everywhere. I love what I saw at a preseason. He was just, he's a guy who can see where the play is going. He has that kind of sixth sense where he's watching the play unfold from the snap and you can, he doesn't get juked, he doesn't get, he doesn't follow the mislead, he just, he zooms in on that ball and he's the guy who hits the, you know, hits the runner two feet or two yards back in the in the backfield and for a loss and that's that kind of guy he is I really like it big Yeah, he gets my night of the week Justin: And jonathan vellma like when he steps in a hole. Yeah Stop the runner from running through the hole. He's as big as the hole Like vellma needs to he's not as big as the hole he gets in the hole Jake: But he's not as big as this guy is my fool of the week is uh It's gonna be this gonna be the fans. It's gonna be the the Jets fans. Yeah, you know the most me fans you Everybody yourself the fool. Yeah a bunch of People people down we're telling you know, we're telling man. She's the greatest better last year this year Justin: I've been called any engineer. I'm still on the other them. Yeah, so Jake: Yeah, Sutton can go like man genie still like Schottenheimer. So I think the fools are the fans They they are just you know, they're booing they're just miserable then and you know what we're fools for going to the games I guess or we're all fools. I just I say we're fools. So people who are fools are the fans that left
05 Jake: Oh, well, they're always fools. Those are the things that was just dead at the end of the game Justin: It wasn't even full at the beginning of the game. No one showed up. It was You know a little colder than it has been but it's for you know late October. It's not cold at all. Yeah Jake: I'm not I'm not buying it vision game come on and you fans out there listening. You don't like it Go ahead and send us a sense an email at podcast at jet Kingdom calm and we might you fans What do you think of that? Now he's just trying to drum up trouble. All right, so let's go into the game. What's going to the this week? It's uh But you know what, I'm still excited to see us win. I don't care. I don't care if we're 0-ing whatever or 1-ing whatever. If we're never going to win another game ever, I want us to win a game. I want to see our rookies play. I want to see people who are going to be here next year play this year. So well, I want to see David Harris play again. I want to see Kellan Clemens play. I want to see us take on not a great team because the Roshan Redskins are not a great team. They're a good team. They've got a rookie quarterback who seems to win in spite of himself. They have a good defense that although got trounced last week by New England. And, huh? But we wouldn't put up 52 on them. Yeah, you just think is this a... They ran it up. It was like a joke. Is this team going to come back though? Are they going to come back and fight back or they just beat down and they're not going to be able to come back from that? Justin: I don't think this team is that good. They're in the NFC, remember? Jake: The NFC socks. Except for every NFC team we've played has beaten us, okay? Justin: Yeah. Bye. Regardless of that, we're not very good. One in seven. We don't beat anybody. So this team's not that good. I mean, you know, they're four and three fine, but they just play the Pats and got embarrassed. They have no kind of offense, you know, where 30th in the league and offense, they're 28. They're not. They're they're no better than us on offense. Their quarterback, as you said, is a rookie. They have a decent running game, which kind of scares me because that seems to be the thing that we. don't stop. They have Portis and Liddell Betts, two-headed monster back there, and their defense is actually pretty decent. I'm sure that they, you know, they're now ranked 12th in the league, but they just did give up like 52 points last week. I bet they were in the top 10 before last week, so they'll probably be a little angry. But I'd let you know, I think this is going to be a very. Close game, a low scoring game and a close game. And do you want to hear my pick or do you want to analyze the game a little bit more? I want to analyze a little bit. I want to say, you know. Talk about some of their players. I mean. Jake: Sure. I mean, Jason, Jason Campbell. Justin: He was very good in college. He was actually really good in college, but he hasn't done much in the pros just yet. Jake: I mean, he's throwing six touchdowns this year. They're really running on there, right, the rushing.
01 Jake: And Portis is not out, maybe not in, but he's definitely injured. So whether he'll play, you know, a big factor. You know, Santana Moss, our old Santana Mosses. Well, he used to. He doesn't this year. Well, I'm saying he's someone who it's nice to see a good matchup against. Maybe they'll put Rivas on him, a little old versus the new. And I don't know. I mean, they lost against the Green Bay. They beat up on Arizona. They lost against New England. So it's not like they're being, you know, they're dominating or anything. They're definitely. late. They're definitely an okay team. Again, another team that we should beat. I hope that our team is fired up, but yes, let's get right to the picks. What do you see this game? Give me a pick. Give me a score for this game. Justin: As you know, since we're both in the same pool, pick the Jets this week. Nice. They are a home team that's getting three and a half points. So I picked them for that reason. I actually think they're gonna win this game though, and I think it's gonna be like a really ugly 16-14 win. Jake: You say that Washington Redskins gonna win 16-14. No, no, no. The Jets are gonna win 16-14. Oh, the Jets are gonna win 16-14. Justin: We're gonna win. We're gonna beat this team, but it's gonna be ugly. Jake: 16, so you're really saying we're only gonna score one touchdown? I guess two. Justin: I'm thinking one touchdown and three field goals. I think we're going to do coals. We did say Chad was going to kill coals one day and it looks like he finally did. That was his only catch and the guy just hung him up there to drive. Jake: That's true. Well, I don't totally agree with that. But anyway, let's call it. I say Kellen Clemens comes in that this team is outraged. They're there. They're just blown away They pick up the rookie he starts throwing bombs and and you know, we got Kottree out there He can catch stuff McCarren's can do things once in a while. It's gonna have a good game Justin: Who is I think Brad Smith is gonna have a very Brad Smith could do some good some good stuff Jake: anywhere he is I know I say the Jets win and I say the first win that we actually dominate. This is a dominating game by the Jets, sparked on by our defense playing like they did last week, our offense playing like they can play if they, you know, I guess if they're led on to do so. This is the New York Jets at home. Kellen Clements comes in, it's a 28. to 14, 28, 14. I don't know if that goes. Nope. Too windy. People miss them. Okay, so next game on our thrown picks. We'll leave the big game for the last one. Let's go to Bill's Cincinnati. What do you think about that game? Justin: I thought this was the big game. I thought the bill Cincinnati was the big game in the division this week. Jake: You know you can't turn on the radio. I've been listening to Sirius for a couple hours today and you cannot, they literally
00 Jake: will not stop talking about the big game. But we'll talk about the big game in a second or two. Let's get to the bills. Justin: I think both are going to beat Cincinnati in Buffalo since Cincinnati is an awful road team. Owen III on the season. Buffalo is a pretty good home team Coming off the big win against their division rival Jets. I will give Buffalo the edge 1713 Jake: Yeah, I don't see it at it. They're Edwards trend words is doubtful They get they're going back to Joey. I'm sorry. This team is just now gonna fold Bengals go Yeah, oh, sorry not Jerry JP sorry JP lost me same difference I'm thinking of bad quarterbacks. Yeah starting with a J and I'm gonna go now I would say Bengals light them up 31 10 Wow. Yep That's what I'm saying for the for that one. All right Oh, my my next pick the dolphins will not lose this week. Yeah, they are on a body. I guarantee it The only way they will lose. that no one's paying attention to it. No way we're going to win the division. Right. No one else could win this division. It's not fair. It's right. You're going to win the division. That's right. So it's almost, they're almost doing us a favor. If we squeak out, well if we squeak out, you know, 8 and 8, that'll be amazing. But if we get to like 7 and 9, you know, 6 and 10, it'll be like, well, they had a bad season. They changed quarterbacks halfway through. But he has some good games tour in the end and they'll be back next year. That's what we're doing. kind of what I'm hoping for. So, New England Colts, this is the Super Bowl of the regular season. This is the most anticipated game of the of the NFL regular season ever is what they're saying. Ever. And it's a big one that you know, New England goes to to the Colts house. And I want I'm going to make one prediction first I want to hear on the podcast now. The loser of this game wins the Super Bowl. I want that down. The loser of this game wins the Super Bowl. I see the winner of this game being Indy. I think Indy wins this one. Justin: That's because you think no one will know when the Super Bowl. Jake: No, this is my whole logic and that's what I'm saying. I'm saying that Indy is going to win this game and it's going to be high scoring, but not like crazy high scoring because the reason the Patriots can score so much is because they have the ball the whole time. But Indy will be able to keep the ball and they'll be able to make drives so it won't be like a 60 to 59 kind of game. It'll stick in the 30s, but I think that Indy will kind of take a lead there in the fourth
03 Jake: and might just, you know, be up over a touchdown by the end of it. So I say it is Indy 38, New England 31. That's my pick. What are you going for? Justin: Oh, are you now on record as saying New England's going to win the Super Bowl? Jake: I'm now on record saying the loser of this game wins Super Bowl. Justin: and you're picking doing one to lose this game. Jake: Yes, you are grasping a lot of logic here, but I'm just saying the loser, I'm saying either way, I'm saying that the indie will win this game, but if indie loses this game, I think they'll win this removal. Do you understand what I'm saying? They're two independent theories. Justin: Gotcha. Okay. I don't have that theory. Okay. I think no one's gonna win the Super Bowl regardless of what happens in this game. And I'm gonna pick New England to win this game for two reasons. One, they're just better than anybody else, no matter where they play. And two, because Marvin Harrison is likely to not play in this game. Yeah, that's true. And that's a big deal. So I'm picking New England 41 Indy 27 Wow Yeah, they're just too good. It's not fair. All right. All right. Well, there's our throne picks and I think there's mostly our Jake: Podcasts I want to you know, rear it some stuff.
