16 Jake: This is the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Thursday, October 25th, 2007, episode number 10, The Big If. Well, welcome to Jet Kingdom Podcast, home of the rulers of the AFC East, and so sorry can't even get on with that. I'm Jake. Get over yourself. I'm Jake, pathetically on this side and pathetically on the other side of the Digital Isle. Justin: Hopefully there's more people out there still listening to this. I don't know why. This is Justin. Hey Justin, how you doing? Still here, still hanging in. I feel like I'm... the last jet fan around. Jake: Well, there's only two of us left on the entire planet. But let's get right into it. Let's get into what I would like to call the typical jets game. This is the typical 2000sets jets game where the jets go and lose to the bangles in Ohio, in Cincinnati. And you know this was the game that I mean we saw before we saw this game. We saw this game against Against the Giants right the Jets come out. They have a great first half They go into the they go into the halftime with with the 10-point lead and the second half Just fall apart fall apart all over the place top bottom left middle Everybody Chad falls apart the running game falls apart the defense falls apart just pathetic. They lose the game in, you know, what, if you look at the stats, you're like, what happened? Because how is it that Chad Pennington has three touchdowns? Well, one of them was Hail Mary that didn't matter. True. But Palmer has one. They both have one interception. Chad threw for more yards. You're like... Who won this game? Well, you know... Kenny Watson, hello. Kenny Watson won the game. Who would have known it was Kenny Watson? Justin: So what do you think about the game? I think that the Jets defense... Kenny Watson, really 130 yards and 3 scores. Or Kenny Watson. 31 times the guy touched the ball. I mean, I don't know if it was like the Jets being... Bad at running the ball or good it or bad at stopping the runner good it Stopping the pass so they're bad at stopping the run. I don't know what it is. No, they weren't good at stopping the pass. Oh They held who's been Zada and check for a little bit and Chad Johnson didn't score. I mean, I don't know I guess they didn't have to they were just running it down our throats and when you can run you just run Jake: Well they had the yards they needed to get. I mean, that's the thing. You look at those stats on Hoosman Zada and Johnson, but they made big plays.
04 Jake: When they needed 30 yards, they got 30 yards. When they needed 40, they got 40. So even though they didn't have the big touchdowns, yeah, all they had to do was get down to the 2. you. with big penalties on Rivas. And then they had Kenny Watson run it in three times. By the way, I heard Kenny Watson. Yeah. Related to LT. I heard him. I don't know. He plays better than him. How is it? I bet this guy next week, whoever the Bengals are playing, if they're not off, whoever the Bengals are playing. Thanks. This guy won't run for like 10 yards. He'll be shut down. This is what we do. We make the worst running backs look great, and the next week they look just like average Joe's, just like they were the week before. Just pathetic. A couple things, I couldn't, I was taking notes. Actually, took... Justin: It just hit against my leg or something. I don't know big hit Barrett big hit Barrett Jake: Yeah, start off the game good way to start the game and the other thing a couple of things Justin: Big hit Barrett should be big hit Barrett on the bench Should just bench to big hit Barrett. He should be in the- Why doesn't Hank Poteet just start? He's fine. Yeah, he's okay. He's fine. He's just as good as any of these other guys, except he makes a play once in a while. Jake: Yeah, he does. He actually had a good play. So I guess the one thing that was the big play that everybody started talking about, Chad comes out and throws basically a 40 yard in the air down to Cole's for a touchdown. Huh? I said yep. Yeah, no and and you know there's it's you texted me You said what arm and you know the whole joke about chat I went back and looked at it again because you know I was sitting there too and you know with a couple beers in Me I was like oh, you know they're always putting Chad down and there he is throwing the ball I think the difference is again That's a play design for him to throw 40 yards. That's not just him throwing 40 yards, that's a play design. That's mass protect, he goes back and he launches it. But that's his launch. A normal quarterback, that would be his just quick out. Like, you know, Brady does that. If you watch the arc, that was the other thing, I watched his play. Justin: That's not compared to Brady because Brady's like the best. Oh, he's god. God. Jake: Well, I hate him. Anyway, the arc was, you know, he has to launch it at a perfect 45 degree angle so he can get it to go. 45 degrees? Do you have a physics degree? No, I took, well maybe, no, geometry. 45 degree angle is the perfect angle to get it to go as far as he possibly can go.
02 Jake: And again, it was a nice, big, it was a beautiful play, but it was just perfectly designed to have him throw as far as he possibly could. Justin: You know what it is about him throwing the ball at his arm? He can throw the ball far. Right. Okay, that's... there's a huge difference between being able to throw a deep ball like that. on a play like you said design to throw a deep ball fine he can win it 50 yards we've seen him do that Well, same. On the interception. Jake: Same end of the game we've always seen. We've seen that end of the game four times. Justin: But he can't throw that pass. If we don't have timeouts, he cannot operate in a two minute drill because he has to operate with like we've said in the past where this is gonna hurt him, he has to dink and dunk over the middle to a running back or a tight end. And you can't do that if you don't have timeouts. He has to go to the sideline. You have to. You just have to. And he doesn't have the arm to do it. So it's just... You can't call it bad play calling because it's what you have to do. Well, otherwise you can't win the game. Jake: Let's get to the end of the game at the end of the game first of all, because I think there was bad play calling at the end of the game. Justin: No, you have to call that play, but I mean, it's unfortunate that Chad doesn't have the... He didn't have the physical ability to pull it off. Okay, so you have to call the app. You're the end of the game because I yeah the end of the game is is kind of what matters Jake: No, I totally disagree. They should they did it though. They did the two outs They did the left to the right they did it But then once you've done that twice the defense is gonna sit there and wait for you. You know what you do then Justin whatever dad Justin Brian Mentiony do you know what you do? What do you do? You throw it down the middle? You don't have any it doesn't they had enough time to throw one shot down the middle because what it does is they're waiting for Justin: it on the side we could still wait on on the side cuz Cuz you don't have any time out you the clock has to stop they could have thrown it down the middle one shot Jake: They had a minute left. Yes, you could because you know what it would have been touchdown because he would have done the exact same Yes, because they're waiting for it on the sides. So painful. Okay, a couple of the things. Justin: I don't want to know that. I mean, all right. Do you know that we... Jake: There were good things. No. Well, good things like Cole's going in, breaking that play, right before the end of the half. I mean, again, if we could play at the end of the game, like we play at the end of the half. We win every game. If you notice at the end of the half we play amazing. We go down, if you watch a couple, we score in like the 2 seconds, we score in like the 5 seconds. This one we scored 43 seconds into the end of the half. Like that's what we do really well. I wish we could do that at the end of the game. When we need to do it. The other thing is Hank Pateek being robbed of that interception and touchdown.
00 Jake: They called him down, which I don't think so. And we went in the fourth quarter, 23-17. What is with our team? We go into the fourth quarter and we let them score... What is with our team? We let them score 21 points in the fourth quarter? We let the score 21 points in the fourth quarter How many points are with a giant score in the half? 28 points. What is with this fucking team? The defense is driving me bananas. Anyway, I hate that game. I'm done over it. I'm done with it I'm done Chad is it came out today man genie sticking with Chad and There's only two theories of this and I don't necessarily agree with it but I understand it. Justin: I haven't heard anything so fill me in. Jake: Okay, it's bright for the bi. Basically, and it's the same thing that Miami's going to do. Miami 0 and 7, they're going to do the same thing. They're going to play Cleo Lemon one more time. And then if, you know, then you put in the new quarterback before the buy or at the buy, so then you have two weeks to get them ready. That's what you do. And I think... Justin: Is that what the theory is? That's what the theory is. You put them in... And well, what happens if... Let me ask some... Questions what if Chad wins what if he wins the next two games were three and six then you go by weekend You stick with him or do you make a change at three and six like that? Do you say? Thanks for getting us back those two games Chad. We're going with the kid regardless. I think he would have to win them in a Jake: dominating fashion But again, I don't think that it's Chad. I think, again, I said this last week, I said this week, and I'll say it this week, Chad should be sad not because it's Chad, but because, well, A, this season is over, and we should see what we have in this Kellen Clemens kid, and B, this team needs a fucking They play great one half and they play crappy the next half. This team needs a wake up call and I think sitting down Chad and just saying, listen, you take a seat for a couple weeks, we're going to play another guy, we're going to mix things up. That's just a way to get the team and it doesn't have to be forever, but just to get it to wake up. Now, if he wins the next two games and he dominates zero interceptions, two, three Yeah, he'll probably keep continue playing because then they'll be in the back of their mind. Well, we can win out, right? I think if he was one for one he's out certainly if he loses both of them he's out and Other than that man. Genie is just you know An idiot, but but play calling play calling play calling. I still say it. I mean Brian Schottenheimer, I don't know what happened from last year to this year.
03 Jake: It seems so, I don't know. It's like he's either super, super creative with all these kind of trick things, although they even haven't done any of that this year. They've done a double reverse. Or, it's just the most dink and dunk. I mean, people have been saying, you know, did Hackett have a baby or something? I mean, why is this, what is going on? Why is this guy doing all this little stuff? And he does, and- No, why? Because he has to. No, he doesn't have to. He doesn't have to, that's the point. No, he doesn't. He doesn't. No, he doesn't. Justin: He has to. I disagree. I cannot throw, he cannot make certain throws. Guys have to be so open, or he has to make a perfect throw. A lot of the time, you know what he does? He just fucking lobs the ball up down the, down the sideline. He just lobs it up and hopes Cole's makes a catch. A lot of the time Cole's comes up with it. I don't know why he does it, but he does. Jake: He comes up with it. Eh. Yeah. Except for when Cal and Clemence was playing and then Cole's was dropping them left and right so You remember the Baltimore game every receiver dropped a ball some dropped two balls that's so you know you can say Oh, you're going to heart you can say away. Okay. That's a great one But you can say you want about about Chad lobbing balls But his receivers catch the balls and they do stuff with those balls. Okay, enough on chat, enough on this freaking game. Let's get to the segment, the second week of our nights and fools. This is a segment for you newbies that we're going to pick in each game. We're going to pick of the past game. We're going to pick each. Justin and I are going to pick a night and a fool each. Night being someone who gets knighted and did a great game Or something great in the game and a fool being a fool and someone we'd like to see do better or be Taken out behind the shed and shot Let's just say do better. So last week. I made you go first This week I'll go first and I won't steal yours because I think I know what it is I'm gonna go for fool this week. You're gonna go for fool first. Yeah, we're going Justin: Night's first. Okay, night's first. Night's. I'm gonna give my first last week on night. No, no, no. Wait. I'm going first. You're going first because I'm recording. Do you want to do the other category? Jake: No, I'm doing night. I'm doing nights and I'm saying that my night this week is actually my fool from last week He made a double double turnaround. Double reverse. I'm giving Mike Nugent who went three for three and hit everyone that he was supposed to hit. I'm giving him my night of the week. There you go. Congratulations. Who's yours? Justin: He just needed to go home to Ohio. Jake: That's it. It's the Ohio wins. Who's yours? Who's yours? Justin: I think you knew Lavernius Cole's is going to be mine. He catches Buck 33 in two touchdowns. He had a big game. Yeah, he did. He had big catches. He had a couple of touchdowns, obviously. And he had a very nice.
00 Justin: very, um, what is it? reminiscent of the good old days with Chad and Lavergne as Coles, like back to Chad's first run as a starter. Jake: And so for fool, I'm gonna, I'm gonna go with, uh, I'm gonna get bring it out of the players. Justin: I'm gonna put it on. Don't I get to go first? Oh, I go, go first. Oh, go ahead. You go. Oh my god, you're like a woman. Jake: Alright. I'm gonna say it's old shoddy, shoddy Schottenheimer. Brian Schottenheimer, your play calling is sucking ass. It is the most pedantic, vanilla, hack-a-desk play calling I've seen in a long time. And every defense knows what you're gonna do. the announcers know what you're gonna do. and it's just it's pathetic. You know, whatever you wrote down last year, go find your notes or go copy off someone else because it's just our playbook must be like three pages. They always talk about, you know, the Redskins playbook being so huge, no one can lift it. I bet our playbook is written on the back of a napkin. It's like, you guys, you go down there, you do this, we'll throw these little quick right outs and we'll run the ball for a yard. So that's my Fool of the Week. Who's yours? Justin: can I just pick the defense yes I the defense we pick in the defense all defense the defense no one in particular no no one Jake: in come on I you all know you also somebody you had somebody wanted to call out Justin: its all over my own out no I'm out No, cuz it's really all do it hold do it. It's the whole do it I wanted to just call out the defensive line But I I'll go adjust the whole defense or at least the front seven because come on Kenny Watson 130 yards and three touchdowns and 21 points in the fourth quarter that is on the whole defense not just one player that is off Jake: That's that's true. I would have to say Reavis was called for two huge penalties like that's mega mega penalties ones Justin: We're picking on him Jake: Yeah, I think he's like just he he he's in that kind of big play kind of mode Which is that you go for the big play you don't go hasn't had an interception yet Justin: So yeah, well, he's come really cool of averages would you think he'd come you know, he'd get some coming up Jake: Well that that Let's just put that to bed. Let's shoot it, put it down, hang it, take it out back, beat it, hang, hang, draw and quarter it. That game is over. We are now officially, although not mathematically, out of the playoffs. So now we go to that horrible place where I know I'm not going to send in my money for my playoff tickets because those aren't happening. But we have this little inkling that maybe if we run the table, but whatever. This week... We go on to play a team. Justin: Well wait, let me ask you about that. Jake: Cause... Justin: If we win the next two games that we play,
00 Justin: and we're gonna talk about this next game against Buffalo at home in a minute. But... We have Buffalo at home, and we have the Redskins at home. The next two games. Jake: Both... Justin: I would say winnable. No, no, no. We're not gonna win those games. Right? Well, let me- I mean, these two teams are not, you know, neither of them are all that good. Jake: Neither Cincinnati, neither Philadelphia, neither of the other teams that have beat up on us. Justin: I understand. But let's just, what if we go, what if we're three and six in the bye week? Would you have, would you have any higher spirits? Jake: Yeah, of course. If we win a freaking game... I don't know, a home game coming off a bi-week. If we win a game against a team who's actually won a game this season, I might actually feel... No, 3-6, I would feel... Justin: 3-6 with a home game against Division rival Pittsburgh. We're gonna get trunched. We hate Pittsburgh. Jake: And then we're gonna get beat up by Cowboys. And then we're gonna get beat up by the Dolphins, because they'll put in the new quarterback. And then we'll get beat up by the Amis. No, I think I'll feel better. Sure, winning a game would make me feel better, but I'm not gonna be sitting around going, Oh here we go Super Bowl. Justin: We just don't understand. I don't understand what's going on. Jake: We can lament, but I'm not sure people want to hear us lament. So let's go on. Let's talk about the Bills game. You know, your second favorite game of the year because your ex-Bills person fan lived up there. Whatever that crazy story is that no one cares about anymore. So the two and four Bills are coming to the one and six Jets. Whoo! Can't wait to surprise us. This isn't getting put into prime time. Um. Yeah, I honestly This is obviously a game we could win Trent Edwards after he played against us hasn't looked so good He hasn't really done much Justin: So, you know, there's gonna be a very interesting game for a couple of reasons. First of all, it's a division rival game and If we beat them we're technically like kind of tied for second place in the division which is granted no one our division sucks although we do have the best team in the world in our division in the world it's something yeah world yeah in the world uh it's something to be uh second not in last second so there's something there and special olympics and on the defensive side of the ball jonathan villma might not play in this game. How so? Well, he's injured. He has missed practice. Yesterday, being Wednesday, we're taping this on, or we're not taping anything. We're recording this. We're digital. We're recording this on Thursday. He didn't practice today. He was knee injured. you And it's being reported that David Harris might starve for him. I like David Harris. So this could be very interesting to see because a lot of people say Vilma is out of place
03 Justin: in this defense. Jake: Yeah, but he's still a player. I understand he's a player. He's still a guy who goes to the ball, finds the ball, makes a tackle, makes interceptions. The defense doesn't get better by sitting one of your best defensive players. I'm sorry, that doesn't make any sense. No, it doesn't. Justin: He's a key to the defense, but how this guy in the- Jake: So it would be good to see how we drive the truck with a key? Justin: Yeah, but he's a guy that a lot of people say doesn't fit that well in R.I.P.S. that is tradable. Oh, yeah. Oh, it's very out-of-the-ball. Oh, yeah. And if David Harris can fill that spot as well as he plays it, maybe he fits in better than, you know... Maybe we can entertain trading Dilma. I don't like that idea. But I'd rather change the system to the players that we have, than trade the players away to play the system. Jake: Yeah, I don't think... I'm not on that. I think you play the system that you believe in, and if you look around the suitable winners for the last six years, I think... Out of five or six of them, you know four of them are run by three four defenses three four wheat defenses are what dominate? Patriots Steelers dominate in defense. I don't see it as reason why we wouldn't do that But I don't have the play well But you get that you got to get the players so we could trade away Vilma and get a couple picks a first and a second round from Vilma or a first and a third or something Sure, go for it I mean, I like Vilma, I want him on my team, I want him in green and white, but if he's not the guy, then get rid of him. Same thing with Chad Penton, I love Chad Penton. I have a Penton jersey, I wear it to the game, so I'm all excited when he plays, but if he's not the guy, and he's not gonna win it for us, trade him, get some value, and let's move on. That's, I mean, ultimately, I'm not a fan of a player, I'm a fan of the team, and I want the team to win. I don't necessarily need the player to win, so if Vilma's not the guy. I I don't know, it's a lot of talk, but maybe it's true. So, I don't know. But what do you think about this game? Let's, talk about the game, or is there really nothing to talk about, because we're just gonna get trounced. Justin: Oh, we're not gonna get trounced. Jake: Alright, so you have a prediction? Justin: Yeah. What's your prediction? I've actually picked against the Jets the last two weeks. Yeah, how's that worked out for you? Pretty well, I've won the last two weeks. Dude, you're not picking to win, you're picking because you want the Jets to win. So if you're picking to win... What's the point in picking if I don't want to pick to win? I picked to win, buddy. I've gone... I've done pretty well in this picking game. Oh, right. I wish we were keeping stats on this one. No, we're not. Oh, I wish we were. Yeah, that's why it's not important. That's why you should. If anyone is, for any reason, I don't know why, but no one's following along at home. Email us at podcast at JetCame.com. Okay, so what are you picking? I'm picking Jet's 23, Bill's 13.
00 Jake: Excellent, nice go. I'm going to say, I'm going to call this the reverse game. I want this to be the reverse game. I want Chad to come out and I want us to do the two minute drill at the beginning of the game. I want him to throw an interception at the beginning of the game and then run it back for touchdown. So we can get it out of our freaking systems and then battle. And then in the second, well because this is what we always do, we play well in the first half and crappy in the second half. Then I want to go in, I want to be under by 10 points. So I want to be. In the half I want to be 20 to 10. And then in the second half I want our defense to step it up and I want us to score the 21 points to win the game. So I'm going to call it Bills 23 Jets 33. Wow, 33. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Wow. Alright, so what else we got for games out there in the AFCs? Oh, we got the London match. Justin: We got the London match. We got the worst team in the whole NFL to go off. Nope, second worst. Oh yeah, they're the worst. Jake: No, no, St. Louis hasn't even scored points. They scored nine points last week and they scored three points a week before. They've been really injured. Justin: It's a reverse though. St. Louis gets their stud back this week. Steven Jackson, Miami lost. Ronnie Brown for the rest of the season. And Zach Thomas. Oh, and Zach Thomas. So that's bad news for a really bad team. Jake: No hope for the dolphins against the giants. Justin: The only concern is that the giants are a bunch of... We're explicit, right? Yeah. They're a bunch of fuck-ups, the giants. So they could go over there and be like, Woohoo! We're in London, motherfucker! And party it up. but I don't think they will. I think they're taking this season pretty seriously. This is the week before they're by. I think they'll want to go in 6-2. I have them winning 33-13. Jake: 33-13. I'm gonna go. Yeah, I think the Dolphins can score, although not against that defense. Without Ronnie Brown? Justin: Without Ronnie Brown? I mean, it's Jesse Chapman. Jake: Yeah. Justin: I'm going to say... He was Lydani and Talminson's backup like four years ago, and then he was out of the league, and now he's a starter on Miami. Oh, it must be because of the connection with the head coach. That's the connection with Jesse Jack. Jake: 41-12. Justin: 21-12. Jake: Hey, listen. My prediction last week of the 50 to whatever Dolphins game, and they got to 49, you after me. They did it. I predicted the uh... Justin: Sorry, you did. They got the 4-0 and that was pretty good. Jake: I said it was 50-13 and it turned out to be whatever. 49 to something. So I thought that was a pretty good pick. Anywho, I am actually paying attention to my picks. Who else is playing this week in the AFC East? Is that A? Justin: I'm gonna play in the Redskins. Jake: Uh-huh. Oh god. That's a... Justin: I did want to go back. I just made a pretty interesting point for those at home.
03 Justin: Yeah. And you just skipped right over it. What's that? You know, Cameron used to be the... the offensive coordinator for San Diego. Jesse Chapman was pretty decent as Lidani and Tomlinson's backup and we talked about systems, Cam Cameron's system is really what makes him and you know he was a student of Nord Turner and This is 6 degrees. This is 6 degrees. This is 6 degrees. This is 6 degrees of separation. Well, not really. I mean, he coached him for his last team. Cameron coached Cameron in his last team. He might know the system very well and actually play pretty well in it. So we'll see. Jake: Alright, we'll see. So what are you saying for the Patriots? Justin: We'll move on for the Pats and the Redskins. Jake: Give it to me. Give it to me. Give me a score. 24. 24. you want to score I want to well okay well we can talk about the game a little bit I mean Redskins are foreign to the Patriots are undefeated they're okay the Justin: Redskins yeah really vision and they're okay but they're okay in the NFC and New England is amazing in the superior AFC yeah I think New England's just completely unstoppable. I'm pretty much completely unstoppable on offense and their defense is pretty good and the Redskins can't really score. So what do you say? 35-10. 35-10. And the Redskins have a really good defense, but they're not gonna be able to stop. Jake: uh... new england i say thirty three twenty new england uh... you know they don't score anything below although i'm still waiting for the trap game maybe it'll be some week but the came in the actual uh... pictures don't win Justin: well maybe this will be the i mean i don't think will be but if it could be This is the week before the huge matchup next week between New England and the Colts. Jake: I hope that's two undefeated teams because that would be really cool. Justin: Oh, I really hope they both win. I hope that they don't consider this a trap game. Jake: So let's go into those who are thrown picks for the thrown picks segment. Now let's talk a little bit about other kingdoms. certainly the most interesting thing of last week. besides the Jets just sucking again was the the NFL record being broken Rob Barone is Kia and if it kicked eight Field goals and to win and that well that game was insane. They were down by them They were up by an amazing amount they came back and game all the way within and then you know flip-flopped and went down and then the guy wins it with the you know with that many with eight field goals and becomes a
05 Jake: Car accident well you get in a car accident you hit your head you just had a you just had a concussion at some point You have to say listen. What am I coming back here for I? Don't know just came back Justin: after like two years Jake: How about those jaguars looking like they might have traded away their number one pick a quarterback a little too soon Justin: Yeah him obviously because that guy they brought in you know no they lost your heart I mean well I know and then they brought in that guy who was like great he was like a worse version of left witch yeah like what's the point why would you get rid of I mean I guess they were paying him a lot of money must have been Jake: Yeah, I mean how did you cut him? I mean it was funny because I was watching that game and they just kept talking about oh how they made this ballsy move. Ballsy move to trade away, you know, leftwards. They traded away, leftwards. They traded away, leftwards. Ballsy move, ballsy move.
