12 Jake: This is the Jet Kingdom podcast for September 13, 2007. The Cheaters Well, welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. We are on episode four. Can't believe we made this long. I'm Jake across the virtual aisle from me. Hello, guys. This is Justin. Hey, Justin. All us guys. Yeah, all us guys. All. First, let's hang it out. First, let's kick off some really important news that Justin is sick, so he will not when partaking with me in my beer choice. I will be holding my glass and looking at a... I'm drinking out of a Jets mug, which is good. I'm drinking a Brooklyn Heffison. But I have as a backup here. I have my, my... Oh, a Raspberry Heffa-Vison. Yeah, the UFO. I have as a backup. That's nuts. It's a nice after-minute, after-dinner drink. Justin: So those leftovers from Sunday? Yes, they are. I'm surprised we didn't drink them on the way back Jake: and we needed them. Which kicks us right off into our first topic tonight on the a podcast which is the Jets versus the Patriots. It's the opening game of the 2007 season. So much interesting for basically the last game against the Patriots. So this is just a hopefully the game or revenge for that game. It was the redo. Justin: Turned into the redo. Jake: So before we get right in the game, let's just talk a little bit about the stadium, because I know everybody's worried about what the stadium looks like, or the new stadium, and how it affects parking. I will say, and since you were with me, you know, it was the quickest I ever got to the stadium in my life. It was, we zipped from Long Island City to that, to the stadium. We were there in like 25 minutes. Justin: Yeah, I mean it took no time at all. I don't know if that was because so many people were diverted away from where we were going or why that actually works. Jake: It was pretty packed, I'll say. It was pretty packed, but everybody was really tight in there. But other than that, I think it was a non-event. I know a lot of Jet fans are mad about the stadium situation. And certainly if you didn't, have a parking pass, which I do, it would have made life harder on you. I feel sorry if you are very sorry. Justin: Yeah, remember the line after the game? Jake: How long that was for the bus? The line after the bus was huge on the way out. Really long. So, it was the game itself. Okay. Do we have to? Yeah, yes, we do have to. So, it basically was this game where you wanted to crawl up in a ball and go... away. Oh, let's just start over the start. It started off okay. The Patriots came out,
01 Jake: they scored, they started utilizing the, they started utilizing Randy Moss quick out the gate but they scored with Wes Walker. glared with Wes Walker. Wes Walker was a force in the first half. We couldn't cover him. Yeah, we couldn't cover him. And then Randy Moss was being thrown too, but it was 7- You know, the defense wasn't really stopping the Patriots, but again, it seemed like even match up and going into the second half I think there was a feeling that we could actually keep in this game Justin: You know, this was gonna be a close one and it seemed like it's gonna be close. They did seem to have the Kind of the edge the whole game. You didn't really ever feel like the Jets were gonna ever win But we were close. Yeah, I have time Jake: I felt we could have come around from the halftime and made a stand like there could have been a stand on the halftime And it could have been something You know like we could turn it around and come out with a different set of things But basically Thomas Jones was not running very well though I mean they let up I don't know how many sacks in the first quarter, but it's six six total was a six total Yeah, not I mean not good so Chad was getting hit Justin: Thomas Jones wasn't more touchbacks this year. Jake: And then you kicked it, you he ran it back for touchdown,-longest runback in the history of the NFL, a lot of bad tackles, I mean there were. Yeah, there were some good chances to tackle in the next play. I've seen some replays of that a couple times, as painful it is, and it was a lot of missed tackles. It seemed like a lot of missed tackles all day long. The only person I felt was really tackling was Dorell Rivas, which I guess is one of the few good things we could take out of this game. And then we have Randy Moss being thrown into, he puts up a buck 83 on the game, he's scoring touchdowns, the return game, scoring touchdowns, and then the game gets cut out entirely too Justin: many touchdowns for the pass. Jake: The make the matters worse, just to put a little icing on this shit sundae, was the
05 Jake: Chad gets hit, actually someone rolls onto his ankle and he goes... It looked pretty bad on the replay. It looked very, very bad on the retail. Justin: We were there and we didn't see it. Jake: We were a little farther away than the replay was. It looked pretty bad. It looked bad. It looked bad. Justin: Surprised he came back into the game after the replay on TV. Jake: So he goes out... And here's the controversy. Here's the big controversy of the game. You know we can talk about this., 13 to 14 you know is the final score so let's just go back to what exactly you know this happened. So here's the way I saw it as it happened. I will say to start off we had three jerks sitting behind us the whole time. They threw airplanes from the start to the end. They just sat there and threw airplanes and airplanes and airplanes. Actually got one of them. They actually did, that was impressive, but not so impressive when I'm trying to watch a game. So these are the kind of guys I feel will get drunk just to go to the game, and then they don't really care. I mean, maybe they were Jet fans? I hope they weren't. Yeah, I think they were. I don't know. They weren't really cheering. Yeah, they were too busy making airplanes. That's true. So, so we had that kind of crowd around us, so here's what happened. He goes down, and I've watched this replay so many times, he goes down, obviously he's down on the ground, then he comes up and everybody has, and it's very quiet when he's down because of course we've been through this so many times, then he comes up and he starts to walk off, kind of limping. Now, at any time when a player is down and then comes back up, What do you do as a fan? You cheer? You cheer. So give him a round of applause. You give him a round of applause You're back. Oh, yeah. Thank you But the problem is he then went down again Yeah, so there was a there was a portion of the people who were cheering for him to be up and then a portion I think a percentage, I don't know what it was, but some people who kind of were cheering that he went down again, but then he got back up again, so then maybe there were people cheering for that, and then he went down, and then he got up and he went off the field, and then Kellen Clemens comes in, because obviously this is kind of taking a bit. He's trying to get off the field because he's one of the nicest, or one of-of-the-best people on the planet. trying to get us we don't have the burnout. a time out, so he's trying to get off a very small percentage of people that are actually cheering for that fact and a large percentage of people that were cheering for the other things that were happening. Calum coming onto the field, him standing up, but I would admit that the people behind us were kind of cheering for the fact that Chad was not going to be on the field anymore.
00 Jake: So, you know, it makes you sick and it makes you sick as a fan and I don't know why anybody would do that. Either your own team or any other team. You should never, ever wish for or cheer anybody being hurt. It does make me sick. And to be on the boards this week, on other boards, on the Patriots boards and the Dolphins boards and just hearing what they were saying, you know, and the media, just talking about jet fans even winning. I don't know if they won, they just showed up. but it was gross so that's what it was from our point it did not feel as if he was presented people but it was it happened and uh... i think we as jet fans have to kind of take it in you and learn from it i guess i don't know what do you think Justin: well my thoughts are exactly exactly what you said i mean it was mostly he went down and got up and went down and got up and went down and got up So it's very like, you know, you're cheering one minute, you're gasping the next minute, because there's your guy going down again, and then you're cheering and he's hopping off, and you know, you want to give him a round of applause, and then you want to cheer Clemens coming in, because you're not gonna boo a backup quarterback coming in, you're not gonna boo the guy. I mean, I think I got blown a little out of proportion. I mean, any real Japan knows that. You know, Chad has given his, you know, a lot to the team. His body. Yeah, basically, I mean, he's gone through a number of surgeries and, you know, a number of games and his only- Taking pay It's always been a warrior and always been you know, always kind of been there for the team guide is what that was and I don't think any real JF fans were really doing that. Jake: I hope not. It does make you sad but so at the end of the game he actually comes back he actually leads the team with this now high ankle sprain what we learned it is now Thursday. We learned the high ankle sprain and he actually comes back and plays and scores like limping down the field he leads the team and scores and I think that just that among everything else says what kind of guy this The chat is and I was I was impressed. Anyway, then it just gets the game gets blown out. Kellen Cullen and doesn't really do much. I mean, he went five-for-ten for 35 yards. Justin: The game was kind of over at that point anyway. Jake: Anyway, let's get some elephant in the room. Well enough about the game, the game sucked. Let's get to that. Well, I just want to say one thing. Chad Penden's quarterback rating, which whether you believe it or not, it's a standing and a statistic to measure. He had 130. His rating for that game was 130. Wow, that's pretty great. 16 for 21, 167, two touchdowns, zero interceptions. Against an offense, well, I guess the defense wasn't the one that had problems. Against a defense that did what he was going to do. Oh, it was the other way around. It was oh, sorry So they knew what our defense was doing it comes out after the game and again
00 Jake: I don't know if you have to be on Mars the last four days to not get this news But it comes out after the game that a Patriots player a Patriots Someone worked for the Patriots was on the sidelines on Film the Jets defensive coordinators throwing in their signals and logging the plays and and logging the place so It immediately there's a big thing then it comes out that this actually happened last year against when the Patriots are playing the Justin: Packers it coming the bomb show is really that you know man genie Was the one who yeah. I mean, that's yeah breaking the Belich Ron Chico d right there Jake: So it is basically looks like and again all the facts are now on the table yet But Belich like a sense sort of Apologize for things that might have happened or the way he interpret it But the basics are the Patriots have been videotaping other coaches as they send in the signals and using that to his advantage. It's dead against the rules as far as I've read from everything I've read. It is against the rules to videotape other teams and so That kind of fashion so There's going to be something that's going to happen. Again, there is such outrage. There's funny songs which I'll play, one of the funniest songs at the end of the podcast, so don't go anywhere after we say goodbye. But I mean, it's kind of stunning. I think, you know, Jet Nation or the Jet Kingdom, quote unquote, is up in arms, you know, saying they're cheaters, they should have asterisks and all the things. So you know some of the fact we don't know all the facts yet if you're Roger Goodell what do you do with him what do you do with the Patriots with Belichick with Kraft what do you think should happen to them to be if this is a 100% true and they've been saved more than a couple games yeah I think I think they Justin: well people since since they have done and actually come out and said that you know They've disconnected the... between the coaches and the quarterbacks purposely while they're having good drives. I mean, noneAFP surprises me, actually. It's kind of funny. Well, let me take off my fan hat. Put on my Roger Dell I'm the Commissioner hat. And I think a fair punishment. Would be you know not not really to find them any money. I don't really think that that does anything I have my I think yeah, I don't think that does much And picks yeah, I mean I get take away like a whole year's picks That would be but take a pick or two. It doesn't really do anything either. Do I I personally think that they should? Since they've of been using technology to their advantage illegally, I think some of the technology that the league does approve should be taken away from them in future games.
05 Justin: So some of the things that the league does allow you to do, which didn't allow you to do in the past you know is wearing you know headphones with you know you could communicate with the quarterback you communicate up to coaches in a booth somewhere you get and even have instant replay as a technology advancement in the league. I think maybe they should explore taking some of those things away from them. And leveling, you know, taking that field, that playing playing field and reverse it on them. Maybe, you know, it doesn't have to be a level playing field at this point. They've already gone beyond that point, things away from them at this point. So bring them back to the Dark Ages. Yeah, I mean they were ahead of everybody else. They weren't playing on the on the same level playing field. They were cheating And the only way to really rectify that situation is to That's interesting interesting. I will say this I mean out of all things thrown out Jake: There's been a lot thrown out there obviously suspending uh the check for certain games changing the field for the second game back to new york uh... the fun never do that though making them do a redo of the game making them never do that either making them forfeit the game taking away pics from this year uh... i mean there's all sorts of things out there It-it's a crazy, crazy. Because what do you- basically the game is done, and whether or not you believe they cheat- I mean whether or not that cheated actually made the game a 38 to 14 game or a 21 to 14 game, you know, did it-did it really change the way the game was one? I'll even say today that-that Mang-Gini said in- One of his, actually sorry, no, it was a friend of the Patriots. unnamed source basically said that Ben Gini knew they were doing this and so and he had to know no But he knew they were doing this to the games Justin: And so he actually had three people sending in signals to which were right. I heard about that But think about all the extra work you have to do right like to implement something like that for a week Not only do you have to have one game plan you need to have Three yeah, two fake ones just to throw them off. It's not fair Jake: It's just not fair as the jet fan. I have to say I gotta I'd love to see something obviously advantage jets. I'd like to see the game forfeited I'd like to see the Jets take that as a 1-0 and I'd like to see him I'd like to see them fine that's him the draft picks taken away I guess as a question is and this is what Roger Goodell has to kind of think about you know how much does this sully what happened in the nfl up to this point and and this season this season the michael vick
03 Jake: season which we were just over that again they did a brilliant job get rid of it before the before the season started you know here we go we're in controversy about the sport and not even about the players in the sport about the coaches in the sport and these yeah Justin: this is different and is about the team but integrity Jake: This is integrity I'd love to take their draft. That'd be awesome. That's not gonna happen. That's this year versus next year Justin: I don't know. I think I don't see the Jets getting any benefit out of this I mean, it's nice that they had just exposed them so in the the New England Patriots as he did against individual players like Michael Vick where he just said goodbye Michael Vick you cheated you did something wrong or youB did something wrong you're gone see ya so I'd love to see Gadel come down on a team the same way that he came, a player because there's a huge difference I mean the player is basically Labor and you know the team is is you know the owners are you know they're not labor It might actually affect Robert Kraft which would be very interesting if they come down hard on the Patriots Jake: Let's say very hard and you know not so good so far as to put asterisks next to the Super Bowl wins Although I have been talking to Patriots friends telling them that's what's gonna happen but Would you fire Belichick? Justin: just because he's no he just he just he could justify it a Sick, crazy, bell check world by saying we won three Super Bowls, didn't we? And they can't take that away from us. But you're Dawn, I'm...
08 Jake: I would have never. Well, your company still needs to make money. Think about it. We'll advertisers start to go, I don't want to be part of the Patriots organization because it's selling now well.. I mean, you could go further and further. but if you're right that's why i i don't think he gets fired Oh Punishment I guess the next logical thing in the down the list or our agenda is Is what let's look forward next week? That's right, so we actually have a game to play this. This week that has nothing to do about the game Justin: We played last week. You know this game is gonna be really interesting for a number of different reasons but Jake: a lot of injuries a lot of injuries On their side too. Justin: On both sides. a big injury to sides, Jake: Did you do it in the night game? Justin: If our defense comes out and and a perennial jet killer from a different team. Right. Who looked pretty bad last week as well.
02 Justin: And now, I mean, let's talk about some of the injuries for their team. Jake: What's level set? What's level set? The Jets are going on the road. They're playing Baltimore. This Sunday at 4 o'clock or 4.15. Baltimore Ravens played the Bengals on Monday night football, the doubleheader. Steve McNair looked hurt. Ray Lewis did get hurt, came back and played with, what, like one arm the entire time. how he's like Superman he is a bit like Superman and read I think got hurt one it was all over the place and of course the big news on the jet side is Chad and will not start this game it will be killing Clemens for the But looks right now as official as, as we're doing the podcast on Thursday According to Justin: the New York Star Ledger defenses in the league for the last 10 years. They won a Super Bowl with basically their defense. And you're throwing a kid in there on their season opener at home for his first ever start. Only his second year in the league. You're asking a lot. You're asking a whole lot against a team that... It's Chad, who's the Patriots. And last week was an experienced quarterback. Six times. And this is a defense. He's more than any other team in the league. And you have basically a rookie quarterback out there. Jake: Boy. I will say, the good spin on this, the spin doctor that I am. One is obviously, you know, as much as we love the Chad, the arm weakness is a known fact. It's not disputed anymore. And it was. It never was. I might have in the past. But basically, Kellen Cleven brings two other things to this game. one. But he knows him at all Nobody's seen nobody's seen him play in two years and two years fast. He can move around. He will move around and he will get out of that pocket if he needs and he's faster than That'd be.
30 Jake: and But, you know, I think that just can pull it out, amazingly. Justin: A lot of this does have to do with the injuries on the other side. They- they're missing one of the best left hackos in the game, Jonathan Ogden. Yep, he went out and- He may, or may not play game time decision. Jake: Well, he couldn't play this last game, so he's not playing this game. Justin: Don't see him playing same with Ray I mean, he's a perennial injury guy. He's worse than Chad. Although he does play through them. Yeah, he does. He gets hurt every single year. He's never had this injury before. This is a new one for him. That offense, Jake: I I think they never played it. Justin: They never played it. Jake: They looked like peewee football. Justin: They couldn't even have the ball. Jake: They'd go to hand the ball off and they'd be three feet apart a week. So we got that. We relent to the game. That's the game that it was. ,,,,,,,,,,,,, this week, I'm predicting JETS 23, Ravens 19. That's how it is. It's what it's going to be. I think I don't know how I get to 19. It's just the number that came to me. Twenty three nineteen, huh? Justin: So I was off last week too. I think we both were a little Homerish and wanted to start the season off 1 and 0. So we foolishly picked against the Jett's but or picked against the Pats, but they were cheating. So anyway, let's see this week. I don't. This is going to be such a terrible game. Thirteen six. Jake: 13.6. All right. Then I also picked the San Diego Chargers at the New England Patriots with the big asterisks. I think this is a game that the... I think the Chargers are going to whoop them. I just think they're going to whoop them. I think everything is going to take...
00 Jake: Again, it might be the homer in me. It might be the Patriot hate. The Patriot hating. but I think it's a 31. Patriots just get good old-fashioned beat down, you know without without the videotaping of the sidelines I So I do think there's going to be some scoring. yeah that was good they they basically he almost died and now he again so that's they want that is good very good news at from the way the stores play last week though the bad news is that the point is yours all the animal steers to the steels of good and jp did not look good last week he threw under a hundred yards, I think it was one for one, you know, one touchdown, one intersection. Justin: You can't have a guy like Lee Evans having two catches for five yards. No, no. Lee Evans is too good to have two catches for five yards. Jake: So I'm calling it Bill's 10, Steelers 31. There's that 31 again. There is that 31 again. Yeah Justin: I don't think they'll score that many points against the Bills defense, but I think they will win I'm gonna go with a score 20 to 7 Jake: Hope you're right. You can put them up on Jet Kingdom. Oh, yeah, sure. Yeah Dallas Cowboys at Miami Dolphins Cowboys had a I mean They didn't look great defensively, but they looked great offensively. They looked great offensively, so... So 41 points, or 45 points, yeah. 45. And then Tony Rope was throwing for four and running for one. And the Dolphins not looking great. You know, losing the game because of the kick, but I guess it's the Redskins. So I don't see that happening. I see the Cowboys beating them. It's the Dolphins home, so they're not going to put up 45 points. Dolphins will have some defense show up a little bit more. They lost the Jeremiah Bell, which is huge for them, out for the season. Wow. Cowboys 27, Dolphins 17. Justin: Yeah, I don't think the Dolphins will score that many points against the Cowboys, even though the uh... ronnie brown is lost his lost cause i think he's abust amin a label running around a bus uh... i will give dallas the victory over my Jake: We could talk about what's going on in other kingdoms or any other NFL news for other teams
03 Jake: that you kind of something that speaks to you that you'd want to bring up. Justin: You could talk about the other New York team for half a second and how many injuries they got knocked about Sunday night. I don't know what what all of a sudden Tom Coughlin is Bill Belichick and he's hiding, you know Eli's status whether he'll be you know, four weeks like ESPN said, or maybe he'll even play this game, who knows. like that right to start the season just like us but to lose a division game game like that is big and they just got really hurt with injuries. the pack takes it to them it's gonna be a really tough game for the Giants without if Eli doesn't play they're gonna have a really tough time winning with Chad For him okay, so he signed I'm sure he'll play this year at some point even though he missed all training He'll be any good, so I imagine he'll get to play towards the end of the season So we'll go about Don't we play Cleveland this year? Yes, we do yes We do so they kind of got rid of their quarterback this year this week After after Romeo Cornell said there's my boy, you know, he know he pulled them so he didn't get him hurt because he was Will face Brady Quentin at some point Jake: Oh yeah, we are going to face Brady Quinn. Come on, you good. That's a victory. I I can't wait to. So I guess that's it for the big talk. We'll talk a little bit about what's going on on the on the Jet Kingdom. That's JetKingdom.com. We have a new weekly article or opinion piece written by Justin. We're calling it the Jester's Keep. This week you'll be on week one analysis, which is very good. That's up on the up on the up on the up on the up. Justin: Of course, just thinking that I'll probably do
01 Justin: You know, announce this piece every week of the previous weeks. And then if there's something that I really feel like talking about, like I might just throw one up there about the whole cheating situation, I just throw it up there. It'll pop up whenever. Jake: , Alright, that's good stuff. That's always on the website. Of course, there's the podcast, the previous podcast, which is now available on iTunes. We've got the forum, we've got all sorts of other stuff if you want to stop by and see what's going on at the Jet Kingdom. These subscribers are re-upped too. To the podcast? I have not checked in a couple days. I saw it spike up to like 20 or so the other day. Justin: I don't think we have 20 some odd people listening to us at this point. We are huge. Huge. Jake: Like we're taking over the world. In other news, Jet Kingdom is now sponsored by Citigroup. Citigroup. Really? We can group all your city together. So I think that's it. Stay tuned because at the end of the podcast I'm going to play this very funny YouTube song. I'll just play it because it's about Belichick and Brady and the cheating situation. It's very good. Let's do it a couple times. I'll play it right after. But until next week, we'll be back next week. Hopefully we'll do it a little earlier. I'm on the road. We'll have to figure out how we do that. Whether we do it, I guess we could bring the equipment with me. We can do it from I'll Be in San Francisco, we'll do it over the airwaves. But until next week, I'm Jake. Justin. And we'll see you later. Hang in for the song and rock on. Go Jets! Cause I remember when he coached the Browns He was such a failure up in Cleveland The franchise folded up and left the town I never said Tom Brady was a hero Cause I remember him from Michigan I'm bringing Gatorade to Brian Greasy Except for garbage time when he got it So wasn't it a little shady when this quarterback named Brady Suddenly became a megastar And wasn't it a bit confusing when this coach who's used to losing Earned the reputation that he's smart When you know which plays are coming, it can make a coach look cunning And make an average quarterback elite Cheating's how they got their glory, it's the true, deceitful story Of Shady Brady and Bill Belichick The tabloids say they cheated on their girlfriends
01 Jake: And someone should review their SATs The IRS should look into their taxes And their colleges should check out their degrees Mangini knew the tricks that they were using So he convinced the Jets to turn them in Cause he was getting sick, getting sick and tired of losing To a team that has to cheat to win But Brady's made a lot of money and he's scored a lot of honeys By showing off his championship rings Bill's been praised because he's clever and called the greatest ever And lived with all the luxuries that brings But let's con- Skate their Sony's and expose them both as Phonies And see how many teams that they can beat Some would say it won't be many If it is it won't be many Or Shady Brady and Bill Bellachite No more lucky play selection Into proper blitz protection Or Shady Brady and Bill Bellachite Cause cheating's how they got their glory the true deceitful story of shady, Brady and Bill Balachite.
