16 Jake: This is the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Thursday, October 2nd, 2008, episode number 33. Some Guy. Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. As always on this side of the digital aisle, it's me, Jake, and on the other side, joining me one day before his birthday with a... maybe not playing up to par, playing a little IR is... Justin: As always, this is Justin, birthday boy. Jake: Hey, Justin. Well, close enough. I think we did one of our birth day's on the show at one point. We definitely did your birthday and it was last year because my birthday is in the middle of summer and we're not generally talking about the Jets. Yeah, so if you've been paying attention which by looking at the number of subscribers more and more of you are we skipped a week and the official reason is that we just had scheduling issues but the jet fan. The reason would be that the people lost, we just couldn't face the realities of actually talking about the game during that game or after that game or about that game. So that's why. So we waited till we got a win. No, that's not the case. So we apologize. We kind of have a scheduling issue. But we'll make it up with the devil's podcast today. that will be so full of good stuff that we will get to it. uh... let me start off by close my window Justin: all that's a good idea you know what i thought you were podcasting from outdoors i thought you were out sitting under a tree or perhaps at the uh... water taxi beach or something along those lines Jake: i i am not there are new our new uh... podcast location will be outdoors now That was just the... It's the din of Long Island City. So let's start off, because we basically have two games to go over in quick fashion. Justin: Oh, can we skip the first one? Jake: Let's not skip it. Let's talk about it. I'm going to talk about it, and you can skip the whole time. Justin: You know what? We should do Knights and Fools, certainly, for the first game. I can think of a few fools. Well, that's why we got to talk about the game. Jake: Okay, so you know I It's weeks ago, I think we both predicted that the Jets win this game. I think that we, you know, it was the Jets versus the Chargers on a Monday night game and you know, started off like any game should where someone, I think it was Barrett picked Phil Rivers and ran in for touchdown and there we go starting a game. You're up 7-0 on a Monday night, you're thinking this is going to be great.
01 Jake: The media had been pressuring. The Jets to end of the fans, you know, let Brett be Brett let Brett be Brett Let him throw the ball and he started throwing the ball. I started throwing picks I think he threw three picks during the game Yes, Oh two picks during the games, but it was oh and Thomas Jones fumbled once as well So it was just not a good game. I mean basically it got out of control very quickly where the The Chargers scored 10 points the first quarter and then scored 21 points the second quarter. And as you know, if you go into halftime, you know, 31-14, you're going to have a real hard time coming back from that game. So it just, it was what it was. We couldn't run the ball on them. We were just getting stuffed on the run. We're throwing picks and when you throw picks and give away, you can get the ball away three times. You're just basically not gonna have a good time, you know? winning the game and in a lot of ways we were talking about the Chargers this is a must-win Justin: for them I mean you know they were down yeah that sucked we were going to play them on Monday night down O2 across the country just yeah in their home right so we lost I think there's some Jake: takeaways from the game and what's nice is we can bubble that game with with with a win after it but um you know it it it Oh, and Chris Jenkins got hurt. That's right. Justin: That's what I think comes out of the game, is that you need a big fat guy like Chris Jenkins to play the nose in the 3-4. And if you lose them, they're going to look like they looked last year, which is a sea of letting people run over them. you know, not just not getting to the quarterback all the things that we saw last year I think crept up and reared its ugly head again Jake: Yeah, and it wasn't so much the running it was because well, David house didn't have a great game. Nobody had a couple touchdowns Yeah, but I was like it what it really was was that is it It's what the fans and everybody was saying is that once you have a nose tackle who can make pressure on the front, the center and someone else helping the block, what it does is it pressures the quarterback to throw the ball faster than they would have allowing the corners to not be sitting out there on an island and it takes away from the passing game and it clearly was true. He was a team that as soon as Luszczakian's left it imploded and you're right it looked like a... last year and it felt like last year and it was a crappy game and let's stop talking about it. Fine. So I just lost $40.29. Let's do, you know, cutting everybody some slack because we don't like to remember the bad. Let's do some fools and I'll start with the fool of the game. Sure, go for it. You know, I think there was a, you know, as I wrote in my... week review, I said, well, it's easy to call Brett the Fool for throwing two picks.
01 Jake: Although, again, that wasn't it. The one person I felt like wasn't in the game at all and I just was really surprised about was basically Kerry Rhodes. And so I gave Kerry Rose the fool because he disappeared in that game and it's a game that I expected him to kind of be All over the place helping out and he just he just was a non-factor. So I gave him the fool Would you give the fool Wow? Can I give the whole team the fool? No, I can't Every every op podcast you asked about this you like can I give can I give three people the fool? Can I give one just pick a player any player? I'm gonna give Brett the fool then Justin: Are you gonna be Brett? Yeah, he looked like bad far. I mean you get a couple times a year and we got it And that's okay, cuz I don't think you know Two and two is kind of where we thought we'd be and you know We lost that game and we're still 2-2. So I'm okay with that and like, you know, I just don't think he looked very comfortable in that game. You know, it's a good point. It just didn't look right to me. Jake: There's something about the way when Brett plays like... loose or happy or giddy or just like whatever. He does so well. And that game, I hated that game. I was dreading it all day. There's something I kept saying to you all day long. I kept saying, I'm worried about this game. I'm worried about this game. I'm worried about this game. And seeing his picture, the picture of him on the sidelines, he had the bad car. Justin: I mean, you kept worrying and it just... You know, what you did was you kept worrying and it eventually just happened. Oh, so it's my fault. Kinda. Oh, right. Jake: I'll take the, give me a half a full. You know what? Justin: You're a full. Jake: The night of the game, I have to give to Lightning Leon because even though we were out of the game. He was actually, I mean, he was returning the ball, and he had almost, he was like what, five yards away from breaking one all the way. But he like, every time he touched it from the return, he would just, he would get so close, and he was just like making his moves. He had big returns in the game. I don't know if I have the stats for it, but it was just. It was just amazing and it just made you thought, like there was a point in which I thought he can do it. Like Leon alone can get us back in this game and he almost did. I mean there was a point where if he had broken one or two more we would have been right back in the game. Close but no cigar. Justin: Yeah, and who was your, who was your man? I'm gonna give it to David Barrett. Even though I hate him. You know it's funny. When you watch the games, and it's funny that you gave the night to Leon, because when you watch the games, they call out... they call out Lowry a lot of the times, because people are going at Lowry, because you don't really go at Reavis. And, you know, they're saying, oh, Lowry's the rookie, he's doing such a great job, he's starting for Justin Miller, who's out with an injury.
06 Justin: You know... Leon Washington's in there for Justin Miller with an injury. Lowry's in there with Justin Miller with an injury. And then Barrett played so well the other night, which I never thought I would ever say. I don't think, uh, I'm gonna give Barrett my night. Great, great playing, especially in the first half. He played really well. His hands were kind of all over the place. He had that interception for a touchdown. But I don't think Justin Miller's ever gonna play on this team again. I mean, he's the fourth or fifth corner maybe? I don't know. He's not going to return kicks because Leon's better than him. He's not going to start because Lowry's better than him and he's a rookie and you may as well play the player that's a rookie and better because that'll just give him the experience and he'll be better down the road. Uh, and Miller's injury prone, and he's never been good. I don't see where people think he's good. He's never been good. You're crazy if you think he's good cornerback. He was a very good returner. Never a good corner, and you're crazy if you think he was. A good corner? Jake: No, he wasn't. What he did was he had great speed. What he was bad at doing in the first year was he's bad at tackling so like he couldn't cover anybody though He never covered anybody never he didn't have instincts. It's funny cuz Lowry Dwight Lowry he has Justin: Great in his hands are all over the ball. You know yeah, he's all like like and you know they're going to him they're trying to throw at the rookie corner because you have I mean even though he's only a second year guy but you have a locked down corner on the other side you don't even bother you throw a Lowry and he's doing a good job but I'm gonna give it to Barrett anyway yeah okay Jake: well I you know and it was a game worth forgetting I will say I already forgot it actually Oh, you forgot already? I don't know. Go on. Gone from memory. I can do that. I think from your point of view, I will say, I thought we were going to win that. I thought we'd be going in to the buy. No, two and two. We both thought two and two, I believe. Justin: And I think we both thought we would lose the San Diego game. time. Jake: No, I thought I thought we'd win the San Diego so I think I had us in three and one losing losing only to the Patriots before the bye You had us two and two losing to the Patriots in San Diego, right and beating the Cardinals so so far. I'm a hundred percent You're doing pretty well with that. I would admit and I had him at 12 and four So let's hope I do really well Yes, you do and I picked them to play the Green Bay Packers in a Super Bowl Wow So that'd be amazing. So then, you know, a week's off, or not even a week, it was a short week, they come back to the Meadowlands. And then we have the game of all games. What I am saying is one of the best games,
03 Jake: it's top five games I've been at. Watched as a fan of the Jets You know it was the Cardinals coming down that Kurt Warner that Antom Baldwin they have a turn James Justin: You make it out like you make it out like the Cardinals are like some good team. They're not that good Jake: They're not that good But they have they have a passing attack with Kurt Warner and those and those receivers with Fitzgerald and Bolden They have a passing attack and they can throw the ball and they could put up points on you. What's up with Kurt Warner? Justin: He's frickin'... He can't even hold onto the ball. Jake: I don't think he was about him holding on the ball. But let's set the stage anyway. So it was a rainy, kind of drizzly day. You know, I actually had the luxury of a friend of mine coming through. I got upgraded from my normal seats, which I love. But I got upgraded to a sweet level seats, which was just awesome. So we were out of the rain, but I was right on the front. of the middle tier and it was just an amazing game. This was a game that was, I know the media doesn't say that, because I think the NFL media doesn't want to say that games were over at the half. This game was over at the half. It was over at the half. You could say all this, they scored 21 points to come back, but in essence, no one scored anything in the first quarter and all of a sudden, here comes the Jets and they're throwing on the ball. in the second quarter and just taking it away. I mean it was just nothing that nothing the Cardinals could do. Justin: It was kind of a joke that quarter. It was like almost, it was almost comical because with 10 seconds they score, oh it was amazing, they score with 10 seconds left a bullet touchdown. Or was that the uh, I'm sorry that was the the other one to to colds that was the um the the fade and then they kick off And then they get the ball back and kick another field like it was comical. It was yeah, they scored I would eat quite literally Laughing my ass off. I was like just laughing. I was like, this is amazing Jake: Yeah, it's 34 points when you score 31 when you when you score 34 points in a quarter in a quarter I mean there were I I don't know if all of last year not I could go look I don't know if all of last year we scored 34 points in an entire game last year Jake Justin: You got to remember we scored 56 points in this whole game And that was basically in a half because we didn't even score in the first quarter and we didn't even score in the third quarter We scored 34 points in the second quarter and we scored 22 points in the fourth quarter So we basically scored our 56 points in half the game. Yeah, and the other half we didn't score I mean granted they scored 35 points all in the second half which is quite a bit But yeah, I mean that'll happen when you're up 34 nothing at halftime Jake: Yes, it is because I was thinking back because there was a lot of you know All the Jets led all these points. I was thinking back to the Dolphins Patriots last year. It was the same situation. I think the Patriots were just, by half time,
01 Jake: were up like, it was 30 something, 30 something to zero or 30 something to three. And, you know, everybody's thinking, oh, this game is over. And there's something about the defense that, you know, you just start to play a different type of defense, which is we're going to let you have 10 yards, we're going to let you have a little bit, because we know that you really, you're not going to run the ball anymore. And so we're just going to let you... take some yardage because we don't have to defend as well. And they literally, you know, there's a couple things. The onside kick was a little bit of a bummer. I mean, they shouldn't have got that back. And, you know, if they hadn't, we would have kept it low. Justin: But at any point, did you feel like the Jets might lose the game? No, me neither. No, honestly, honestly. Thought that we were going to lose that game. Jake: I mean, when we were up 21-0, I would say, I probably had a, you know, I was like worried. But when it was half time, 34-0, I turned around to the people around me and I'm like, they're gonna take bread out, right? Because my nightmare scenario, which as a jet fan, you know, you truly understand, my nightmare scenario was, here comes, we would be up... 34 to 3 in the fourth quarter and Brett would come in to throw some other, you know, to get us going on some drive at the last thing. And in a useless point, in a useless thing, someone would come around the corner and tear his head off and there would be dead Brett and we'd be like, why was he playing? So that was my nightmare scenario when... When his head so I was like take him out like now turned out he actually needed to stay in cuz you know We've got them score so many points that we have Justin: Every time a team gets down like 34 nothing They're just gonna start winging the ball down the field and going for it I'm fourth down in the third quarter and just just winging it and her war on side 57 times 57 times for 472 yards, that's a whole lot of throwing the ball. They had some guy, you know This guy named Breston, or Breston that guy was all over the field. They had three receivers over a hundred yards, which is pretty crazy. But we sacked the shit out of Kurt Warner, we made him fumble like three or four times, he threw three picks. And I'll tell you, the one point during the game was the very beginning, because it was such an oddball beginning of the game. Mike there was like a turnover, a block kick, a weird progression of, you know, interception by Kurt Wunner, interception by Brett Favre across the field where it was offsides and that wasn't called. There was a lot of weird things going on in the very beginning of the game and what got the Jets kind of going was Chris Jenkins blocking a field goal. Because the Jets would have been losing at that point 3-0 if that field goal was converted and instead of losing 3-0 they were winning 7-0. And, you know, that's just a regular defensive player on a starter contributing on special teams, running over the center basically, literally stepping over him and just putting up his big pause and just... Bocking it. Yeah, that was a huge play in the game. Even though it was very early on I
00 Jake: Said this other couple weird stats from the game. We only scored the points on one side of the field. Yeah Justin: I mean, maybe it was the wind There was no way Jake: It was just raining but mean I was on that side of the field or closer to that end zone So every time I you'd be like, oh great They're gonna score down here and they did so you look at it. We only scored one they did that for you They did didn't they? They knew you were there. They loved me. Obviously the big stats. I mean, Turnovers. So six, well no, I'm saying for the Jets, he's had six, six touchdowns. Oh, touchdowns. Which is a Ty's Joe Namis record, which is his personal best record. Three touchdowns for Lorna Vernies-Coals. Two for Kottree. I mean, one for Dustin Keller just like, oh well, you know, here's another one. It's his first regular season touchdown. I mean, it was just unbelievable. And then then Revas having two, two interceptions. Let's talk about that last play because I think this is kind of interesting. So it was a blowout. We was a total blowout. We were winning by 21 points in the fourth quarter. They I think there was something between 40 or 27. I think it's like 40 seconds left on the clock. Yeah, we're running by 21 points. Okay, they drive down there. I think at the 35, 40. And. They're going for it, right? So they pop up that. I don't mind that. Yeah, I say if you're going to try to score, you want to score so it doesn't look, so in the record books it looks, you know, less like you got destroyed. You know, and scoring, touchdown, scoring, touchdown. So he throws the ball up, goes in the end zone. Eric Smith comes in from his front. Kerry Rhodes comes in his back and just basically it comes right into Antoine Bolden's and they both just crunch him. Crunch him like you wouldn't believe. I mean, everybody's seeing the clips just crunched. So a couple of things about that. Two days later, Eric Smith gives a $50,000 fine. He's also given one game suspension. Justin: Does Eric Smith make $50,000? Apparently he does. Jake: But there's a couple of things about that. First of all. I don't mind. It was a tough hit and he hit him hard and he hit head to head. He did launch himself. He did everything that you wouldn't. But I think what you got to look at is the guy did catch the ball. He wasn't defenseless in that. You know, he was just running down the sides and didn't have the ball. I mean, this was a guy in the end zone with the ball in his hand. You're taught as a safety or as a cornerback. hit him as hard as you can because he basically has a touchdown unless you hit him so hard he pops the ball out, right? Because if he takes any possession of that ball and comes down, he is a touchdown. So you're supposed to hit him as hard as you can to knock that ball out, which he did. So okay, find the guy, but a suspension for one hit? I don't know. It just seems, again, it brings me back to Bill Belichick. The guy cheats in the NFL, National Football League, he's caught cheating after being told not to cheat. and he gets to find no suspension. This guy in the heat of the game, you know, not preconceived,
01 Jake: not premeditated, flies in to make a hit, makes a hit that, you know, was, again, a hard hit, a cheap hit, but not a cheap hit, because it wasn't a cheap hit. It wasn't like meant to hurt someone who wasn't in the play, in the action. I mean, this guy had the ball and then they give him a fine and suspension. I just thought that was a little much. Justin: sheep the hit no wasn't there there there is there's one clear distinction between Belichick and this situation here and Smith physically harmed somebody and broke a rule Belichick didn't physically injure somebody by breaking the rule and Jake: Belichick was fine ten times the amount that Smith was fine. So you know, it makes you know, four million dollars a year Justin: so I don't think I don't know if they do that look at that when they determine how much they're gonna find but Jake: Well then why not find everybody hundreds of millions of dollars? Justin: Well they find them based on what the penalty is supposed to be. Like they look at what Belltrick did and they say, that's really fucking bad. We're going to find him a record amount or whatever. And they look at what Smith did and they say, well there's precedent for this. Other guys have gotten fined to XYZ. This is what we're going to find him. But again, the distinction is that he physically injured another player by breaking a rule while breaking a rule and Bolden may be forced to miss a game. So I Yeah, I'm not really disagreeing. I'm not really disagreeing with the fact that he's suspended for a game If somebody did that to Lavergne as Coles and Lavergne as Coles had to miss a game Jake: Sorry, there was there was a hit like that with Zach Thomas put on him in a game two years ago flat out took them down. I'm not gonna look back and there's no flag. First of all there's no flag on this play. I understand. So part of me says it wasn't a penalty. I agree with that too. Justin: If there wasn't a flag it's kind of bullshit that they could go back later and find a guy and suspend a guy for something that wasn't really a penalty. They decided what they decided and I think it's stupid to even look back at it and say, oh, they should do this or do that. Jake: I say, well, that's what I do. I look back and I look forward. I look forward to looking back. The other thing I'll say is the dumbasses that are on the, that whoever the coaching staff is, who is a coach? I don't even know what the coach is. You don't even know anything. thing. The coach of the second cardinals. Oh, Ken Wiesenhundt. Oh, Wiesenhundt. I was supposed to say this. Dan has screamed, but that's about three years ago. Okay, so now you've lost your number one starting wide receiver. You have 27 seconds now to go in the game, and you're down by three touchdowns. I've done the math. I've kind of looked at what it would take, an onside kick, a touchdown, an onside kick,
01 Jake: I can touch it on the outside too. Justin: To get back in the game. There's like seven seconds left when they went for that last play Jake: It was it was about 20. It was 20 something seconds, but it was absolutely Unit was impossible to win the game Yeah, it was not enough time in the world to win that game to even get to the point where you do everything Justin: So why go for I don't know they shouldn't yield on that ball because especially after holding got injured Jake: They really should have just yeah, and and they got booed. I mean the whole stadium booed Justin: It's like stupid don't get another guy injured Don't don't prolong the agony for yourself. Let us celebrate get the fuck off our field Jake: So I mean I you you you know, you didn't go Justin: One go on the rain. Oh, you know, I didn't I didn't get you know I didn't get fair enough warning that I might be able to get rid of it. Jake: I'll rank it up there just in terms of pure, it wasn't as suspenseful as the Monday Night Miracle, Miracle of the Metal Man. It wasn't as joyous as the beating the Green Bay Packers to get into the playoffs, which is just pure joy. But this was just a game that was just great to be at because it was enough There's enough stuff going on that you just were just so happy to see this amazing kind of game and just again the difference and I know we're probably gonna do this all season long but the difference in those balls and the way they they release from Favre's hand to where they go and that they went for it so fourth and one fourth and one and fourth and five. went for it twice on fourth down, not with a run, but with a pass to the end zone and they were successful twice. It was just like a different team. It wasn't even like watching the jack. I was expecting on fourth and one them to do a drop. Justin: That was so cool that play action. I mean, yeah, you're right. Just it is like a different team. When they were wearing the Titans uni. Jake: I had totally forgotten that. I totally forgot about it up at that point. I did see a couple of people in the Far of Titan. Man! You got to have some extra cash to go out and buy a throwback. What's he going to wear that once? Yeah, once for the season or once ever, possibly ever. So that was it. That was the game. Let's do some nights and fulls. Since they won the game, we'll give them some nights. What do you think? Justin: I'm going to give mine to Chris Jenkins again. I think I've done this once before. but he is the... Whatever makes an engine run, he's it. Ah, he's that thing. This is not a car podcast. This is a football podcast. So, but he is the key. You can see it. You can feel it. You can just see the way that he frees up everybody else to make plays.
04 Justin: And he's... Jake: And he makes plays himself. Justin: I was going to say, he not only clears the way for Harris to make a player. Brian Thomas to make a play he makes plays Jake: Blocking the pomps one thing but there's that one play where I think it was the one that He it was the play that that Maybe the play they threw the interception for the run back that read us to it But we're literally Chris Jenkins just bulldozed this guy's straight back right back to court Warner So he had absolutely the pocket just collapsed and he had to make a quick decision and made the wrong one it was unbelievable. Totally. Chris Jenkins Welcome because that is just awesome. It was an awesome game that one interception was total crap I hope I hope they could Is a total offsides he thought was offsides I know Justin: Thought it was offsides everyone watching being thought it was offsides even the announcers they said Brett must have thought that was a free play because he just kind of threw it out there Jake: Because you do because that's what you do on and off sides is if you're on the if it's an offsides against the Against defense you you know the of a free play So he threw it through and he threw it across and it was just a stupid play I will say for him, you know, it'd be nice if he'd actually wait to see that the flag fly But that's Brett Favre. So it was a the last two games. It's interesting doing the podcast together, the two games, because it really was the night and day difference of the good bread. Justin: It really was because I just gave him the fool and you just gave him the night. Jake: Well, let's talk about one of the person. Justin: Yeah, I wanted to give like a couple of times. I wanted to give another night to another cornerback named Dorell Reavis. Jake: Oh man. I mean he looks to be, I'm R Justin: They weren't throwing on Revas the whole night. You know, they're throwing on other guys. This guy is quite extraordinary. He's really good. And Kerry Rhodes had a good game too. He was kind of all over the place again. So I like to see that. Jake: So who would you give for your fool of the game? Justin: It's really hard. I don't know. You score 56 points. You throw six touchdowns. You win. You score 34 points in a quarter.
00 Justin: It's very hard to pick a. a fool in a game like this. Um... Wow. I'm gonna pick Thomas Jones. Um... If you noticed, um... Leon actually started this game at running back. Even though Thomas Jones had more than twice the carries, I think he had like 18 carries for not even 50 yards. Uh... And even though they didn't need a consistent running game... you If they had one, god, they'd be like unstoppable because the play fake ability of Favre is right up there with Pennington except he can make throws. Pennington had a great play fake but it was all deception to throw an 8 yard pass the other way. Favre can make a play fake and then throw the ball 45 yards down the field. And we've seen this a couple times now, a couple times this year. Not, you know, we've played four games and we've watched him play fake, boom, down the field touchdown. Like that's gonna happen. I love it. Jake: Yeah, I would probably two, two fools. I mean, you could be two fools. Wow. No, I could, it's amazing the power. You're so mad. You're like mad. head. No, I'm saying there's two things I would look at that I that kind of just that I didn't like I Don't like when when the on-site kick works They're just that that should never work for another team like that should never work against us, right? Justin: The met Mike but we should always recovery, right? I'm yeah, of course, but we should never work Jake: The percentage chance of that working should be so low and yet it worked Did they do it once or twice? They did it twice. They got it twice. Justin: They worked once. Jake: I think they tried it three times. They didn't get it the second time because it was a little bit too early. I didn't like that. And then of course, if you let a team that is just being absolutely dominated in the first half have a breath of life in them in the second half, you got to like think what were you thinking? I know they were doing the bend-and-don't break, but the defensive play calling that third quarter was just not good. They were doing so well at pressuring him, then they just stopped pressuring him. Then they just let him sit back and throw the ball, which again, you have these great wide receivers and a good passer. You want to get to him. You want to make sure that he doesn't have the time to throw the ball. Maybe that's it, but it's a small fool for a great win. And So let's talk about, let's talk a little bit about, let's talk about other kingdoms, right? Go to our other kingdoms segment. Um, let's first, let's go, yeah, let's first back it up to the game that was two weeks ago because actually someone called me out in the forum and said I should give some props to the, to the dolphins. So let's give huge props to the dolphins. Thank you for fricking destroying the Patriots. Justin: I said that I thought I would be a little upset. when this happened and I gotta be honest I was I was inside and and if you're honest with yourself
06 Justin: I think you'll feel it too inside there was a little bit of a it just tweaked me a little bit of the the wrong way when the fins beat the pats right after we couldn't Because even though we beat the Finns and I know we've discussed this, you know on online and off you know that that So what you know, we beat the Finns were better than them But I just bugs me that we couldn't beat the Pats and then the Finns went out beat him You know, so now Matt castles one-in-one in his NFL career He's beaten the Jets his only win ever and he's lost to the Dolphins his only loss ever it just bugs me. Jake: Yeah, I think there's two things different about that game. That game was a trap game for the patient. They looked sluggish during that game. The defense looked sluggish. To be honest, when one play works, when a trick play, a college trick play works. time and time and time and time again against that defensive line or that defensive formation. You just got to think, were you guys asleep or were, I think, what was it that when you saw Chad Pennington go line up for the fifth time as a wide receiver, you'd think you'd like sniff out the play, right? No. They gotta go. So Ronnie Brown, I mean, it was ran for four through one. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The Justin: Canadian Talmons a game yet. I mean, those games, it was insane. Do I think they can repeat their Jake: performance? No, I do not. Do I think that that's a once in a lifetime? That is the thing about the Dolphins. They play the Patriots. Yeah, they do. They play real tough. I mean, they have almost won against them on so many occasions just like Justin: almost blow, I mean, that's one of those division games like where you know where they always say like, oh, it's a division game, so anything could happen. Right. That's a great example of the fish versus versus the patch is a really good example of that type of scenario where it doesn't really matter. Like, like in the NFC, what is it, the north, like where it's the Vikings, the Packers, the Bears. And, well, the Lions kind of suck. But those other three teams, on any given Sunday, those teams could beat each other. And the same can say for the NFC East, even though all those teams are great. Those four teams, there's no say who would actually win in any sort of game. I think the Redskins just went into Dallas and beat them. So, I mean, there's no rhyme or reason for these things. Those division games are just... All the kind of rules go out the window with those. So the Finns have a chance against the Pats, which is absurd because, you know, the Raiders don't have a chance against the Pats. Jake: You know? It's kind of absurd.
00 Jake: They have a pant and they did it, so... props to them. So you know, last week's a buy. I think the other thing we have to mention, which is just makes me want to puke in my mouth, is that the bills are 4 now. Justin: They really are. It blows. Jake: Now having said that, they have not played the most stellar of teams. Justin: Well they're going to an angry team this week. Jake: They beat the Rams, who are probably the worst team in football. They beat the Raiders, probably the third worst team in the football. They beat the Seahawks on opening day and the Seahawks look really bad this year. And then who else did they beat? They beat one of the... Washington? Who else did they beat? I don't know. Anyway, the point is, you're 4-0. You haven't played a division rivalry yet. Justin: They beat Jacksonville, I think. Jake: Yeah, but they squeaked it out say squeaked out the win against St. Louis they had to come back from 14 point under point. So, you know 14 point Yeah, I'm just saying well, you know Let's see how they do against the Jets the Dolphins and the Patriots before we crown them king of the hill Justin: I know everyone's ready to call them like A team to look out for, a team to beat. Just because their record is 4-0, I mean, really? Jake: If there's a team that can be 4-0 and miss the playoffs, it's the Buffalo Bills. So, let's hope and pray. Justin: Yeah, didn't Detroit start off really hot last year? Like, look out for Detroit, they're back. They were like 4-2 or like, you know, something like that. Something like that, yeah. Really Crazy, and then they ended up like six and ten so what you know let's give them the props for now I give it to them give it to them, but you know what that leads us right into Don't pick this week's throne picks and even though we're not picking the Jets We are picking the bills who are going to all the way across the country to visit The Arizona Cardinals who you know spent about ten days here on the East Coast And they went back flew back to the West Coast And they're gonna be playing the bills and they're gonna be upset because they just got their asses kicked by a team in the same Division as the bills and they're gonna want to prove that They're not that bad. They can play So, you know, this is gonna be a tough game for the bills I actually think Arizona is gonna have their number here in a high scoring shootout The score is going to end up being 45-38. Give it to Arizona. Jake: Wow. Justin: Yeah, a lot of scoring in that game. Jake: Not going to happen. Cardinals will not be able to score that much. Bills have a good defense. This is, I hate to say it because it's making me puke, again, in my mouth. But the Bills go 5-0. Bills win 30-27. Justin: I can smell your nasty breath from throwing up in your mouth over the digital aisle. Jake: Good, over the digital aisle. It's disgusting. Then we have the New England Patriots, otherwise known as the Cheatriets, going, who are two
04 Jake: and one, going to San Francisco 49ers, who are two and two. I can't believe the Niners are two and two. Justin: I think you were just about... to say that I can't believe that with with some guy at quarterback just some guy like who is this guy Jake: I don't even recall this might be the game of some guy at quarterback yeah so you got Matt castle and the Patriots against some guy in the 49ers, I still think the Patriots have I like the Patriots chances when you have two weeks to get it right. You know Matt Castle studied up. The Patriots are going to win. This is going to be a game. You'll get the final score and you'll be like, eh. It's 21-14, Patriots. Justin: Yeah, I couldn't actually agree more. I think it's going to be one of those games, much like how the Pats were winning in the early part. We'll be right back. Of this run with Brady they're just gonna you know pick San Francisco apart And they're gonna have two weeks to know what this guy at quarterback whatever the frick his name is I forgot his name That's how forgettable he is with all his tendencies Everything that he does everything that that San Francisco does on defense Um, so I like their chances this week. I'll go 17 6 Jake: 17 6 wow then I mean Justin: I think if you give bell check two weeks to prepare for a newbie quarterback you're in trouble Jake: And then you have the sandio chargers flying so this is like the west coast east coast flight pattern here. Yeah, it's weird Justin: heading to Jake: heading to the Miami the two and two San Diego Chargers which have like fought back to two and two basically barely winning last week and winning against the Jets and now going up to the Dolphins which are one and two at home in Miami you definitely I just this is a game that Again, could the dolphins pull it out could they win this game? Could they use a trick play five or six times? I think what you saw last week with the Chargers is that well, Damien Talents is back He broke some plays last year last week. In fact blew up the spread. Thanks very much Chargers But uh, what is that for? Yeah, a spread is for betting so I just I think that this is going to be a blowout. I think this is a team that knows Chad Payne pretty well. They've played with him a lot and I think that they're going to pressure the hell out of him and I think it's going to be a long day for him. They've got good corners, those chargers, and they certainly can pick them. So I think they're going to be picking off Buddy Boy Chad and I think it's a 34-17 type of game. Justin: Wow. Yeah, I think you're not giving Chad enough credit over the years. He's played pretty well against San Diego.
03 Justin: The fact of the matter is though that... Jake: Four years ago? Justin: Well, over the years he's played fairly well against San Diego. Jake: Yeah, four years ago he was really good. Justin: What is that? Jake: I'm just saying, it's four years ago. It's like, you know, over the years. Justin: You're saying Chad Pennington's only played against San Diego once in the last four years? Is that what you're saying? Jake: No. In that one year, he beat him twice. Justin: OK, and then have they played since? Jake: They might have played once more. I'm just saying. Justin: Man, you really know how to slow my picks down. Anyway, let's keep going. Moving on. 1. 3. I think that this is a game where it's gonna be closer than you think. I don't think there's gonna be a lot of scoring even though Tomlinson is playing better. I think the final score is gonna be 20-17 with San Diego pulling it out in the end. Jake: Wow, if the San Diego Chargers only beat Miami Dolphins 27-18. Justin: I know, the fins are just pissing me off this year. Jake: I will say the Finns have had a week to rest or a week to get ready for this game although it's probably a bad week for them to take off because they were kind of had a big you know a Big win over the Patriots. I just don't see it I just I think the charges are on a good little roll like the Dolphins even with the week I mean, it's not that we're covering from injuries. They just don't have the players to make that, you know You know, maybe maybe maybe I just don't see it Justin: Well, Ricky Williams didn't smoke pot even though he wanted to Jake: I know even though he wanted to Justin: Well, he wanted to but he didn't So, I guess that's good Jake: Yeah, if he's still playing in week 17, I'll be really really surprised. Justin: Yeah, I'll be really surprised too. There's no way. Jake: Alrighty, so that is the long 45 minute podcast catch up. We made up for a little bit of offage. We will be back next week because we've got to pick the... the Cincy game and we'll talk about what's coming up and we'll talk a little about Jesse Chapman coming back to the mix which I'm excited about. I know you are. You think that's great. I don't really care. I think it's great. We will talk about that next week. As we go don't forget to hit on over to JetKingdom.com and post in the forums or send us an email via the link on the top. read up on the... on our predictions and the reviews of the weeks, maybe an article or two, vote in the most current poll. It's all on JetKingdom.com. And now, for the final segment, for the final piece, the moment you've been waiting for, it is the Justin Moment of Clarity. Justin: We need to come up with an actual name for this moment in the show. Yeah. Jake: Alright, what's your moment of clarity? Justin: I don't know, I don't want to call it a moment of clarity though, because it's never really that clear. But I think that, and I've said this since even the preseason when we got Brett Favre, this was going to be the week, this bye week, and in the next week,
00 Justin: where the team was going to start to form and gel, and you're going to start seeing... some real good stuff out of this offense and out of this defense. I think that the team's really going to start to come together. We'll obviously talk about it a whole lot more next week, but for their next five games looks really winnable. I'll leave it with that. Jake: All right, next week we talk about... We'll give first... We'll give bye week grades. I don't know. We're going to do something crazy. But as always, until next week, gotta say... Go Jets! You
