13 Jake: This is the Jet Kingdom Podcast for a Thursday, October 9th, 2008, episode number 34. Bye bye bye. Well, welcome Jet Kingdom podcast. As always, on this side of the digital aisle, here's Jake. And joining me this time, fresh off a bye week. I have. As always, this is Justin. Fully rested. Fully rested after your bye week and bye day, because I happen to know that you took the day off today. I did. So you must be fully rested. I am well rested. Rested beyond belief. Free of sin. Again. We actually have a game to talk about so I figured instead of talking about our game, which didn't happen because the jets were on a by, we would talk about the games that happened in other kingdoms. So I thought we'd do is we'd break it down to a We'll do is we'll talk about the game that happened last week and then we'll kind of talk about in the same sentence What's going to come up? So let's why don't we start with New England who last week went out to 49er land? Aka San Francisco and played the San Francisco 49ers. There was no doubt in my mind that Justin: New England was going to in this game Off a bye week Playing San Francisco, some guy. I think that's what the name of our last week's podcast was, some guy. Some guy named O'Sullivan, JT. Really bad. There was no way a Belichick defense was going to lose to a guy named JT O'Sullivan. and uh... it didn't happen obviously the pets came out strong in they uh... they were victorious thirty to twenty one Jake: do you have a picture last week in front of you uh... you know i mean i have my pics as i read my pics down into an article i like to call uh... You don't even know what the article is called. It's called Jet Kingdom Throne Picks. I picked the Patriots to win 21-14. Oh. Pretty sure I picked the Pats too. I know I picked the Dolphins to win. I probably did not pick the dolphins to win. No, I don't think you did. No, I didn't. You know, I did watch some of the game. When the jets are off, it's always fun to bounce around a lot. I'd say I had a great time watching the dolphin game.
04 Jake: But the Patriots, you know... I mean, yes, I thought they'd win, but I thought they'd win because the 49ers were bad. But they won this game, not only because the 49ers were bad, but they won because they played pretty well. And it looked like, you know, they could actually... Why would you expect them not to play well? Justin: They did go 16-0 last year. Even though you lose your quarterback a 16 and 0 team is still a good team So it's not that surprising to me that they're still a good team like they're as good as a good team They're not great. They're a good team You know, they'll probably win 10 or 11 games because they're still good like they still do have Randy Moss They still do have that great defense They can still move the ball down the field because they're smart and they know how to play football. So, you know, it's not that surprising to me that they play well. Jake: I'll tell you why. Because you don't normally see when Tom Brady's at the helm, you don't see his stats for the week showing up at 22 for 32, 1 TD and 2 interceptions. Those just aren't his stats. So, especially not from last year when they went 16-0. No, I expected them to win, but I didn't expect them to win by a ton, and they didn't. They won, you know, I think I had them winning by a touchdown or so, and I think they won by more than a touchdown, a little bit more than a touchdown. So nothing surprising out of that game. I'm the crew of the Matt Castle and... And Moss, Randy Moss went away on a weekend retreat during the buy and got together because they were clearly a little bit more on target, which is good for them, bad for the rest of the league. If they can figure that out, then five receptions for 111 yards, that's pretty good. You know, so I... I don't know. The Patriots, I just want them to fold. They're not folding the way I want them to fold, so I guess I just have to give it up until we meet them again. This week though, they go up against, which is an interesting matchup, they go up against... This is the AFC East Championship game again. It's the Patriots against the Chargers. It's a Sunday night game. interesting because I bet they thought this would be a better game. Meaning the charges would probably be, you know, 4-0 and the Patriots would be, you know, 4-0 and this would probably be a big rematch. The fact of the matter is these two teams are not dominating anymore and so, you know, they're winning and San Diego's come out and won the last... Well, I guess his won two out of their five. They happen to beat us. It sucks. Yeah. It sucks. Justin: You know... I hate the fact that the Dolphins keep beating the teams that we're losing to. It really, now it's bugging me. It didn't bother me a little bit when they beat Pats, now it's really bugging me.
04 Jake: But then again, we beat them and then we beat Arizona, which they lost to hugely. So I mean, it's really an up and down road show. Yeah, I agree it sucks that that we lost to the Patriots and the Chargers who we could have beaten Yeah Justin: I think if we played New England if the schedule was flipped and we played New England The second week that castle played and we had you know a week of tape to look at as opposed to you know high school film Maybe we would have played them a little bit better, but Those are the breaks. Jake: I guess we'll see next time we play. I also think that we're, as you said, and I think I agree with you until I can prove you otherwise, that we're only going to get better as the season goes on. And if we stay healthy and all that, Brett's ability to connect, obviously, with the receivers is coming around. He's throwing six touchdowns in a game. I still think though we at the end of the season when we go up against the dolphins and maybe this whole thing will be flip-flopped and we might never have won another game and neither might the dolphins. But we are in some ways getting out of that game. Winning that game in the beginning was really good and lucky because the dolphins have a top seven defense and a top ten offense. That's scary. I want to repeat that. The Dolphins have a top seven defense and a top 10 offense. Justin: Wow. Really? Yeah. Chad Pennington leading the high powered offense. Not not really. Running that weird like college offense and it's working. It's Parcells ask. It really is. It's it's let's use this thing and. Well, let's keep using it, cause no one seems to be able to figure it out just yet, and until they do, let's keep doing it. And it's just what they do. I mean, that's what he does. I remember watching him coach the Ray Lucas Jets and thinking, wow, he's just so resourceful. It's not even... you him it's this other guy but it's really him you know he's like the puppet master up there like pulling the strings and saying look at this play and it worked against the pass and then they keep working it and it's so weird I guess it's just so odd it's it's it's it's like you always watch college football and you see these weird plays and you wonder why don't those work in the nfl and usually they don't but this one seems to be working this direct snap to Ronnie Brown and Hand it to Ricky or don't and run and throw and do whatever you want. Jake: It seems to work. I don't know. It's weird. Yeah, we'll get to the dolphins in a second. So this week, so going from flipping from past week to this week, we have the Patriots at the Chargers. features. So, you know, this is...
15 Justin: The Patriots, I think the Patriots decided, was it the Patriots? uh, New England just, I think they're a better team. They, they, they will, I think they will end up defeating San Diego by, uh, at least a touchdown. Uh, I'll go 23-13 on this one. Jake: 23-13. You know, I couldn't disagree with you more. I think the Patriots are at the end of their luck. San Diego is actually, Lotharion Thomas is looking better. He's not as banged up. He's actually, he was running really well against Houston Texans. And I think that the, you know, what you're going to see now is the Chargers. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Justin: Tomlinson was running well against the Houston Texans. When was that? Jake: Two weeks ago. Well, how about last week? Last week didn't do so well. Yeah, so why are you citing things from two weeks ago and last week you looked bad. But I'm saying, well, I don't think it's a banged up thing. I think it is. It's a game plan. No, well, let's go. Let's talk about last week when we talk about the Dolphins because the Dolphins just, they basically just started to run up the score on them. Justin: Anyway, let's talk about the but but Tomlinson's only getting 66 yards a game. He's clearly not himself Jake: There's no doubt about it. He's himself. He's back. I'm saying that the Patriots are not gonna be able to keep up and The charges have better corners and the 49ers do name the 240 on our corners Oh, yeah, that's right. They don't have a clements is one of them. I can name one bastard I think the Chargers have a better corner. I think they have to win this game. They're at home. This is starting to turn into their season. Philip Rivers has been doing pretty well. I really see it. I don't see the corners. The New England Patriot corners can handle. So. I don't think they can handle anybody on on their team. I don't think they can handle gates. I don't think they can handle chambers I don't think so. I don't know if chambers is playing Uh, he didn't practice but I I think he's gonna play i'm gonna call this. Um 31 23. Who's winning? That would be the Chargers. Justin: Oh my god, I thought you said that you agreed with me. Jake: No, I don't. I rarely agree with you. And there's good reasons for that. You know, you don't agree with me, but I'm usually right. Justin: So I'm fine with that. Jake: You're usually wrong. All right, so let's talk about what the Chargers would do. Justin: When it comes to football, I'm usually right.
00 Justin: it. Jake: You have to the game that was yeah except for that play that I called they shouldn't they should have gone for it They didn't and they lost the game That force and 30 on six they should have had that stupid clown kicker kicked the ball Alright, so let's talk about the Chargers and the Dolphins, the game that was. You know, you say, well, did you watch it? Yeah, yeah, I figured you watched the whole game. Justin: I did not. I could not. It was not on my house. Jake: You look at the scoreboard and here's why the Tomlinson didn't run a lot. Because the score going into the half was 21-3. Really? Yeah, so coming out of the half, they were not going to run Tomlinson. Justin: How come there was 21-3 at the half, but the final score was 17-10. Jake: Oh sorry I'm adding up. It was 14-3 going into that. Justin: Yeah, I think you can run the ball with Lydanian Tomlinson if it's 14-3 at the half. You can still run the ball. The Dolphins have a good run D. They have a top 10. Yeah, I'm looking at it and it was 17-3 my friend. And then, you know, San Diego scored in the third quarter which would make it 17-10. You're down by a touchdown, you can run the ball. I really do think that there's something wrong with Lydani and Tomlinson when he only has 35 yards on 12 rushes, he doesn't score. He always scores, you know. There's certainly something wrong with him this year because you ask anyone who actually plays fantasy football and... watch him go number one in every league and in every league he's disappointing. It's a fact. They, meaning the Chargers are two and three because Lydanian Tomlinson is not Lydanian Tomlinson. That being said, maybe he'll turn it on, you know, after kind of warming up. We know he doesn't play in the preseason, so maybe he just needed a couple weeks to get going. You know, Philip Rivers is not Drew Brees. He's not that great. He's not even Jay Cutler to be honest. He's a good quarterback. He's not, you know, he can't. Jake: He was in the AFC, wait, he was in the AFC Championship last year. Justin: Yeah, but Lydani and Tomlinson gets you there. Not Philip Rivers. Lydani and Tomlinson and Sean Merriman in the defense get you that far. Not Philip Rivers, I'm sorry. Jake: It's funny because Lydani and Tomlinson didn't even play in the AFC. Hey, you got hurt, you brought out. Justin: I know, it sucks. And then they lost. Jake: And they still almost won. They were leading until the last, until Patriot's through a touchdown. So I think you're just remembering. Justin: I think this team's going to not do so well this year, San Diego. I don't think that they're even that good. I think we lost in jest. Jake: You're predicting that a 2 and 3 team is not gonna do well? Well that's great, great prediction there. Justin: Well I mean this is... Hahahaha! A 2 and... I mean the Giants were 0 and 2 last year. I could've in week 3 said, oh wow these Giants, they're not gonna be very good this year.
01 Justin: I bet you did! I bet if we went back you'd be like, the Giants suck and that's great. Yeah, the Giants are... Argh! Argh! But no, but seriously, Gates is coming off of the surgery, he's not himself. He hasn't been nearly as good as he has been in the last couple of years. Tomlinson is not himself. And to be honest, I don't think Rivers can carry the team without those guys being, you know, superstars. Oh, yeah. Yet they did put up like 50 points on us, which is, yeah, pissing me off because we should have beaten them. Now, I swear, if we played them in like week 12, we would beat them. Jake: Who? The Chargers? Yeah, probably. Well, you know, passes pass, futures, futures, maybe Justin: we'll see them in the playoffs. I'm just rallying against the Chargers today. Yeah, I guess Jake: so. No jet games. I hate the Chargers. The game was really cool. It was a cool game to watch. I actually had picked the Chargers to win, but once the Dolphins just beat. Justin: I picked the fins. I'm saying I did. No, you picked the Chargers. Jake: I know I picked the Chargers. I said I picked the Chargers to win. And what I was saying until you rudely interrupted me, I was saying I picked the Chargers to win but once the Dolphins started to actually beat up on them, it became fun to root for them, right? The underdog. So. Yes, I was wrong. I will not be wrong again Justin: Remember last week when we were talking about this game and I was like, yeah I think the fins are gonna win because Chad always plays pretty well against against the Chargers and you were like And you I don't even remember what you're saying but you're just like yeah, you're trying to quote me you know, 220 some odd yards. And also Ronnie Brown, just pow, that play. Ronnie Brown is just back to his old self. Back to his old self-flash. Jake: I hate them. What do you see for this week? Justin: It's the Miami Dolphins at Houston. Jake: Miami is never one in Houston. Never ever, ever, eh? But the Dolphins are two and two. Texans are 0 and 4. How can you not pick the Dolphins to win this game? Justin: It's hard not to pick the Dolphins actually to win this game The only thing that you can think is Houston's got to be due to win a game I think that this is gonna be one of those games. It's gonna be so ugly It's just gonna be one of those ugly ugly football games and in the end. I'll just pick the home team
05 Justin: Which is Houston Right. Yes, I'll just pick them 1613 it's gonna be one of those weird ugly football games Jake: Yeah, I don't think so first of all you're forgetting that the quarterback of the Houston Texans is Matt Shaw no, no, no, no job was hurt I think Oh, is he really? Yeah, I think Sage is out. Oh, Sage did everything to lose that game last week. I know. They almost beat Indy. I mean, it was so close. I saw the answer to that. Dolphins are going to win this game. They're going to win this game. 24-17. Dolphins win. Dolphins win. I can't believe they're going to 3-2. It's almost bad just having the Bills get to 5-0. Oh, no, they didn't. Oh, whoops. So the Bills and the... in the Cardinals so it could not slow down the Cardinals well here's the thing like it seems like whatever happens on one side you know whatever like we destroy the Cardinals and the Cardinals go and destroy the bills we we beat the the dolphins and we lose the Patriots and the dolphins beat the Patriots and we get destroyed by the the the uh Chargers then Miami goes and beats them so it's like it's all over the place Justin: Well, you know, you know what happened in this game. Jake: Yes, Trent Edwards got hit in the first three plays and was out. Justin: JP, the worst quarterback in football got on the field and guess what? No more offense. He had that one play like he always does. He always throws the ball deep to Lee Evans. That is a given. If JP Lassman's going to start, Lee Evans is going to have a 50 yard touchdown. That's a given. Thank you for watching. But that's going to be the only touchdown. You're going to have to deal with that in Buffalo. His JP is garbage. You finally had something going for you with Trent Edwards and Marshawn Lynch and moving the ball down the field very consistently with Trent Edwards and smartly and he was a comeback quarterback, played big in the fourth quarter. Reminding me a lot of a young Chad Pennington. Some people said they remind them of a Brady, but I wouldn't go that far. and now I don't know if he's scheduled they have the bye week this week don't they the bill so he has a week to rest but I wonder if he's gonna be able to come back and play for them because otherwise they're not gonna continue to be you know on this path of 4-1 because JP can't do that nothing Jake: Nothing better than watching the buffalo bills lose. That's just nothing better. I'm sorry four and one If they made five and oh, I was just gonna Justin: Kiss myself going into there by week five and oh would have been really Jake: I mean, it's like it's it's it's sometimes. We're meeting the team and when it's hard to meet them but I mean we meet we met the Cardinals at the right time because they come back Warner who gave up the ball eight times this time didn't give it up any
00 Jake: Edron James actually didn't do much high tower seems to see Justin: her Warner was he wanted to retire yeah after his wife after he got Anquam Bolden almost killed he felt so guilty and bad that he wanted to retire But, you know... Fortunately, he didn't because I wouldn't have wanted to see that he's a good guy. I wouldn't want to see him like Feel that guilty that he feel like he would have to retire That's that's I'm glad he didn't and I'm glad he didn't because he kicked some ass against the bills Jake: And the bills this week go on to take on Yeah, they were by so that leaves us with only one last game to pick and then we'll let this podcast come to an end We came is that by week? That is the New York Jets and the Cincinnati Bengals and it's it's the game I didn't want to happen if you remember me last week I said I want the Bengals to win this game I do not want them to come in 0 and 5 of course they had to go up against the the Cowboys which meant that they the chance the winning was really bad Justin: played them really tough to watch the game Jake: they they got they get their in spank and they came back and played tough but they really tough but they were getting spanked to start the game I'm this they were I don't really Justin: yeah but but then they then they turned it on and it they they really they could have won the game in much like the week before where they could have beat the Giants fans. It's scary because they keep doing this coda one kind of thing and You never want to put face a team that you know coda one They they had they were right there, but they coda one Hey, but they lost and it's always better that they lose and you know obviously their own five and they're they're just really bad like the offense they're like 31st in the league they're like the 19th worst defense in the league they give up tons of Yards and tons of points and they can't score themselves. Chad Johnson is like a shadow of himself It's Ocho Cinco bullshit, but uh, I I think Dorell Rivas should be on Hushman's auto who's actually the better better player And Antonio Chapman in the slot is dangerous for that team. You got to watch out for that. I think he's number 83. I was watching, doing a little advanced scouting against the Cowboys this week. So you got to watch him in the slot. They run a lot of little quick slants and bubble screens for that guy. And he gets seven. But they got no running game. No, their running game sucks. Chris Perry's awful. He bounces everything outside, and he's awful. Bye-bye. Jake: he he passed on the who they have chris perry's they're starting running back cedric benson Justin: uh... will have a big they just picked him up he had and i know you had like but he was to but he was saying that he played like two series though he sucks too but chris perry's their starter he's awful he tries to bounce everything outside he's uh... michigan running back he reminds me a lot of uh... that other Michigan running back, Tyrone Wheatley.
02 Justin: who came out, I think the Giants drafted him and then he went and had a couple decent seasons with Oakland but he was like this big strong guy much like Perry who bounced everything outside but wasn't fast enough. So nothing worked. It was like you'll see this week this guy he can't run inside and he won't be able to get outside on us. They will not be able to run the ball on us guaranteed. impede. And I think the Jets are gonna win this game. I think they're gonna win by 10. And I think the final score is then gonna end up being 24-14. Jake: Wow, I, you know, this is, I think I'm becoming like, I know this is a weird thing to say as a season ticket holder and someone who's been following the Jets for many, many, many years now. I feel like I'm becoming a true fan in that. Every game is making me sick to my stomach. Here's a team that should... This is a team we should be. They're 0 and 5. They're not very good. They've been beaten around by everybody. Their defense is bad. Their passing is bad. Their run game is bad. It's a game that we should win. We're at home. Farther is on fire. We come off a buy. It's all the reasons we should win. and we will win but it doesn't make me feel good there's something that just doesn't make me feel good about this game either and maybe that's just the way i feel about every game now i call this 2725 for the jets because i think we're gonna get score because i think we're gonna come back i think we're gonna get up on them and then i think they're gonna we're gonna let them back in the door and we're not gonna have enough points on until like i feel like this is gonna be a close game um i mean i hope it's a win for the jets it's But man, I just I have something in me that like I could just see fucking power making two throws Right. The only need is two throws one to who's was out in the end zone and then turns around and does it again to Chad Johnson and it's like oh my god Where'd this fucking guy come from or Chris Perry having like a hundred yard game or something? It's something like just outrageous that you think what the f? So, you know, it's just maybe our being a Jet Fan. But that is it. That's our picks and I don't know. Anything else you'd like to add? Your final moment before we head off? We'll be back next week. We'll cover the game that was. Hopefully this game. Hopefully Jets win. We'll be right back. There will be, the pics will be up on the website tomorrow morning, so you want to go review those. And anything else? Last moment, last thought on this breakfast on this Jewish holiday, on Happy Jewish New Year? Justin: Wow. You know what? I really didn't even think about my last thought yet today. So I just, I'm just not going to give one. Jake: Okay, that's a good way of getting out of there and sounding even worse. You can just say no, you know. At the end of the video you can just go, I don't have any thoughts in my head.
00 Jake: I know, I've been listening to you for 27 minutes. And with that, I will say, as always. Go Jets! Go Jets! Go Jets! Thank you.
