00:13 Jake: This is the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Tuesday, November 8th. We're back. I could tell that you forgot how to start the show. As it was, Justin, on the side. It has been that long. First of all, we have to make an official, a 100% official, full-on apology to all our listeners who came out of the Woodworks. They did. They did. They came out. They were emailing you. All of our listeners are like roaches. They posted and they, um, and now they're sure to come back. And they, they wanted us back. So we are back. It was not a scheduled thing. We just hit vacations and we hit some work related things and some computer related things. I'm now on a new computer. So all just a bunch of things happened that uh... coincided i will say as as a uh... jet fan and faithful uh... a good couple weeks to be away it it would be horrible if we had lost the last four games uh... like that on bills and uh... we're we're coming back to uh... you know a bad but we're coming back in just the right time yes so i think the jets of the uh... i don't know Leaders of the AFC ease when we last when we last Did a podcast I think we were in last place. I think I think we're tied for last place Yeah, I think we're in last place in the division and now we're in first place in the division So what you're saying is we should never do another podcast. I guess so I guess this is it So matter of fact, we should stop right now We'll talk to you after we win the Super Bowl. Goodbye and good about it. So anyway, we could, we've never missed this many weeks in a row and we promise never to miss this many weeks in a row. I know, it's kind of weird. I almost don't even know where to start. I want to make a suggestion on the fly. Since we're kind of halfway through the season, we're a little more now. We should probably do like a little, you know, first half full, first half night kind of thing, especially nights. I mean, now that we're seven and three and, you know, we can do some first half nights. I was thinking maybe a first half offense, first half defense and a first half special teams night. What do you think? Sounds good. Let's first start off with the game that was. Why do we have to do that? Because it was the Jets beating the Patriots. Let's talk about this game. This is what they do. This is why our people love us.
03:00 Jake: They want us to talk about the game. I don't know. Let's talk about this game. Wasn't really much to talk about. It was an overtime win against the Patriots in Patsy Land. It is the biggest game probably of ManGenie's career. It is the game that we brought Brett Favre, Broadway Brett, King Favre in for. This is the reason we had to beat the Pats on the road. We need to beat the Pats. We need to have that done. Look what it's brought us. First of all, the first thing I want to say is The Jets have this two gaming thing, right? They're playing these two sides of the game that I'm not loving. I love the first part of the game. The first part of the game is the game they played against Arizona Cardinals in the first half. The first part of the game is the game they played against the St. Louis Rams throughout the entire game. The first part of the game is the game they played against the New England Patriots. That's the part of the game where they come out and they just start kicking your ass. They go after you, they run the ball, they throw the ball, they score points, and they don't let you do anything. Right? That's the part of the game I'm enjoying. Then comes the second part of the game. It's the second part of the game we saw against the Raiders. The second part of the game we saw against the Cardinals. And it's the second part of the game we saw against the Patriots. Then they do this like, weird, we don't care defense, do what you want to us, bend us over the table and kick us in the nuts, and just score on us. I don't like that. I don't like the way you're describing this. You just keep scoring until you even it up and then maybe we'll come back and win the game at the end. I don't like the way you're describing this. It's the way it is. Tell me how it's done. I think teams play a lot differently when... You have them down and teams play a lot differently when they're up by a lot. And I think what the Jets haven't learned yet is how to... Almost like what the Pats did last year. How to, you know, once you have your, you know, your foot on on their neck, how to... Literally just break their necks like like how to beat them like when we were when we were up What were we up at halftime like 24? 13 or something and we were up like at one point like 24 6 I think you know when you're up 24 6 and You're playing a team their backup quarterback. I know the guys started all year but still you you should be able to put them away at that point and not have to win in overtime. So I agree with what you're saying there, but I don't think that they change in any way. I think that the Pats are very good at adapting to certain situations, and they adjust very well, probably better than any other team in the league. You need a bell check going in there in half time and making adjustments doing things and you know seeing certain things that what I what I don't like Is that mumbles in there in halftime giving them the blow hard speed to the every inch you give me an inch come on No, I I think if you look at it though base defense
06:01 Jake: No, I don't think that we changed anything too drastically. I think the only thing that we did was on that last drive we gave them a lot of space and we let them kind of go up the field. And what bugged me was the whole freaking game and the announcers picked up on it and were harping on it. Like the whole game they were jamming moss at the line of scrimmage and they weren't letting them get off the line of scrimmage. And then on the last play, the most important play of the game, They let me get a clean break. kind of post up in the end zone with Tylon his back and just kind of push him off and catch the wall whereas the whole game the guy only had three catches he did nothing the whole game we were beating him up at the line of scrimmage and knocking him you know knocking him off his roots and not letting him get to where he wanted to be and it was very effective and they didn't do it on one play the most important play of the game. They didn't do it on a couple plays. In fact there was a time there was a couple of places where they just let Moss wander around and Matt Castle... But he didn't do anything. Well because Matt Castle overthrew him you know like he was a rack they overthrew him. I mean he was just... was. He can't throw the deep ball. He doesn't have the timing down. But I also say there's something else to add to the equation. Throw in that catch is something that you will see. If you tried it 100 times, that guy gets it once. Once he gets that ball. That ball was so far out. Such in front. I mean, if you look at it, I saw in the replay like 20 times, Moss is right in our title. I was right in front of him diving. I mean. One in every hundred times that guy catches it. So was it a lucky throw and a lucky catch? It absolutely was. Was it the wrong defense? I don't think it was the wrong defense because he wasn't wide open. He was covered like a glove. He had a free run into the end zone. Randy Moss should not be allowed to even get there easily. You know, you should push them off. It's one of the best receivers in the league. It's not like you can just say no. Yeah, but the whole game we had them under control. Not the whole game. There was points which we switched up on. Oh, three catches for 26 yards is not under control. And if you take that play out, it's two catches for fucking 15 yards. That's not under control. You owe someone an apology. Who? Thomas Jones. Why? You owe him an apology. Why? Go back to your podcast. Because I think you've said he sucks, he's no good, he sucks, he's no good, he sucks, he sucks. I still don't think he's that great. You still don't think he's that great? He's put up over 100 yards, I think, in the last three games. He's up nine touchdowns for the year. He was up until last week leading the AFC East. He's still leading the AFC in rushing. He is the leading rusher in the AFC. It's okay. You owe him an apology. Thanks for watching. I don't really owe him an apology. He owes the offensive line a lot of jewelry is what he owes them. You owe him an apology. I'm just saying. Whatever. I think the Jets overall, I mean, Thomas Jones is the leading rusher in the AFC. They're the number two offense in the league,
09:01 Jake: if you go by point scored, which is, yeah. what they count offense by were number two in the league in the entire NFL. I think Jones is like number five in the whole NFL for rushing. I think there's like four guys in the NFC that are doing better than him. And on the other side of the ball, the Jets are stopping the run. So that's how you win games. You run the ball and you stop the run. And that basically shows that you're winning in the trenches. is your your line your big strong guys are bigger stronger faster than the other teams big strong guys which is that's the game plan that you and I talked about this on the podcast that we didn't have we actually had many podcasts we just didn't have anybody recording yeah I mean we do talk at length yeah so but I said the one thing and I'm not gonna quote myself from that no one else can re-quote me on. I said, I really want them, I think we have the better line, the better offensive line, the better defensive line, the better quarterback, the better running back. I think we have the better defense overall. I think we have better special teams. I said, this is a game that I worry that Mangini and coaching staff, I won't just give him all the credit or the blame, but I think that I was worried that he would overthink. Try to outsmart the smart guy and it's like you don't if you're the bigger guy in the block You don't have to outsmart him go in and punch him in the face Go take your fist and punch him in the face and say you could be smarty smart pants would break his nose And then he'll stop being so smart we had the ability and I think we did it It was a great game of rushing. It was a great game of passing, you know, Brett far was probably his best game I mean that game and the Arizona game. Well, I guess I mean, that game in the Arizona game, I don't even count the St. Louis game as St. Louis, it was just a... Oh, it's just... ...de-focke-la for St. Louis. I mean, they stink. And, uh, and I don't even think he had, you know, too great of a game. He just kind of managed it. This game, he won. He managed and he won. He played... I'll say, I mean, he made every tough throw. He had no turnovers. He was very efficient, almost 80% completion. He threw for a couple touchdowns. and you know they they they dominated the time of possession, the Jets, and that's basically the key. I guess they had the ball for whatever time they had it in overtime, but they still had the ball for, I think, like three or four more minutes than the Pats did, and that's predicated on the quarterback kind of controlling the game, and he did a really good job. I think it was probably his best game. It was probably three or four, oh no, it was 11 more minutes. Well, I mean, that counts the overtime. So, I mean, it's not really fair. We got the ball in the overtime and never gave it back, which is the way you want to
12:00 Jake: do it, obviously. We're going to get the ball and we're going to win the game. All right, so we're going to do a new thing on Jet Kingdom podcast today. We're going to do Jake and Justin's play of the game. So you're going to name. before we do our full- Do you know what's fun about these new features? That we've never discussed before. That we don't even discuss them. And then you just kind of throw them at me after I already threw a new idea at you. This is a little bit of fuck you right back at you. Can't we do my idea first? No, I'm gonna start and I'm gonna give you the play of the game. Alright good, at least you go first. Yeah, I'm gonna give you a second to think about it. I'm just gonna take the best play of the game though. So the best game to play the game was in overtime. We had had a penalty against us. We were third and 15. And you're just looking as a jet fan, you're sitting there, it's probably midnight or so or 11.30 at night and you're thinking, this is it, right? We got the ball. Now we're going to kick it away. And now this effing team is going to walk down and score and we're just going to go away. Losers again. and in comes. I'm sorry, but third and 15, I just thought there's no way. There's no way. They're going to cover. They're going to let us have eight. We're going to let us have 12. And we're going to fall. And it's going to be fourth down. We're not going to go for it. But here comes Redfarb. And he just pumps it, pumps it straight into Dustin Keller, who got it about 14 yards. And then he made the extra effort. He gets the first down. And that's the play of the game. That's Jake's play of the game for, I mean, in. The field goal won the game, but that game that play if not for that play that game was over and and they most definitely They were coming off a high streak that they had all the momentum. That was my play the game. What was your play the game? Oh Wow, so My play the game happened a little bit earlier in the game somewhere in the second quarter There was a series of like three straight plays where Jericho country caught the ball And one of those plays was that You know, obviously he scored a 15 yard touchdown on that drive in the second quarter But one of the plays was this crazy one-handed kind of catch That I thought was awesome. It was like one of the best catches I've seen in a while Oh the helmet catch from a helmet catch. Yeah, it was a really good catch on a deep pass You know They identified man-to-man coverage. Jericho was going deep. He drew a penalty, but he also made the catch with one arm, and I thought it was one of the better deep throws that I've seen in a while for the Jets. Obviously, they haven't gone deep very often prior to this year. So. I'll go with that for my play of the game. Otherwise, you know, the play you described was the play I was going to pick. You could have also gone for the Leon. Yeah, Leon's return was pretty good. First, the season, the it's just that the play that that stuck out in my head, I thought it was just an awesome throw, an awesome catch. You know, that drive was, you know, a real fuck you drive.
15:02 Jake: You know, it was Leon, Leon. made the return and then they went like three and out and then we went right down the field. You know, that play being a big part of it. I think, like I said, there were like three successive throws to Kottree, like one for a first down, that one long play and then the touchdown. It was it's kind of one of those, you know, screw you drives. One thing I will add though. as we kind of finish up our talk about this game, it was kind of disappointing for me was New England scored a touchdown right at the end of the second quarter with 15 seconds left and they scored one second left in the fourth quarter at the end of the game. So they scored 14 points, you know, right at the end of the second quarter and the end of the game, which is a little troubling, but You know, we won the game nonetheless, so I don't want to act like we lost. We did win. We were better than them, you know, even though Castle did something that no one's ever done before, 400 yards and 60 rushing, because we just let them rush, basically. Yeah, they did. Good win. Yeah. Okay, so now let's onto our most famous segment, not our newest segment, which is And... uh, Knights and Fools since we won the game. Should we do the game and then do the first half kind of thing or should we do just the first half? No, let's do Knights and Fools for the game and then we'll do Knights and Fools for the for the first half. Okay, sounds good. That's what we're going to be doing. You, you on the podcast are listening to podcast history as we build our our podcast. as we speak. Yes. You can imagine. Good sentence. Yes, that's the way we roll. So I'll go first with the knight since we did win the game as his tradition and you know it's hard because you want to throw this around you want to throw everybody a knight. You know I could pick a bunch of players I'll let you pick a player but I'm going to give it to I'm going to give it to who I think really this is the game that you know I don't want to say make or break career, but this is something that if this game hadn't gone down this way, this person would have just been devastated and would have been in a lot of question in terms of a lot of decisions that this person made. So I'm giving it up to Eric Mangini for Night of the Week for this game. So pathetic. It's not. This was a game that, listen, he could have outthought himself. He could have done a lot of things that this is the game that he had to win. in. and had to put his players in a position to win. And everything he did from between training camp and this game was about this game. There was a lot of, yes, we had other games in there, and yes, we had to win those games too. But you got to know that in his mind, he circles a couple games on the schedule and certainly playing in Foxborough, where he's won before. Man, man genie is now two for one in Foxborough. That's not bad. Um, so I'm giving it to him. You know, you could give it to a bunch of people. Who would you give it to? Who are you giving your knight to?
18:03 Jake: I'm gonna give it to, um, Chris Jenkins. Because once again he controlled the middle of the line and lit. You know, made plays on his own, had a sack for a nose tackle. That's pretty good. He gets quite a few of them. You know, once again, not one 100 yard rusher on the season just yet with the tougher, toughest challenge to date coming up. But we'll talk about that in a couple of minutes. So I'm going to go ahead and give it to Chris Jenkins. I think that's probably a good pick. I mean, certainly if we were to give nights and fools for the last couple of games. You made a lot of big plays. If we were to make it for the last couple of games, right? The games that we didn't, like the ones that were podcast, the lost podcast of 2008. Well, that was my idea, was to do first half. First half. Well, I'm saying on a game level, on each one of those games, we, one of us, would have picked Chris Jenkins. I'm not saying we're talking about who's the first half. Night in full, but certainly he would have been one of the people in some of those games that I would have picked For a fool. Yeah, definitely I'm not I don't know who I'd go for a fool in this week. It's really tough to Time, you know since I since I make the rules and I can go either side. I'm gonna give up the fool to Mumbles I'm giving it to mumbles for losing. Loser. Bill Belichick, you're a loser and you get the full of the week. I'm sorry, I just hate the man. He just makes my skin crawl. So I'm giving it to you mumbles with my full of the week. Wow. Wow. Alright, I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to give it to a guy. I don't really think he deserves it and I think... Because we did win. It's tough to, we always say it's tough to give out nights. I'm gonna go ahead and give it to Lowry, Mr. Dwight Lowry. Dwight Lowry. You know, he had, you know, kind of the tougher assignments, I guess. He was the guy that they were targeting. So, wherever he was, that's where they were throwing the ball. And this seems to happen a lot this year, where... You know, people don't go at Revus so much and then they just picked up Tylaw who we haven't even talked about Um who actually played a really nice game I thought so it's gonna put a lot more pressure on Lowry to perform at at a level that I don't think he's used to He's a rookie, you know He's not Reavis the first round pick 14th overall. He's a fourth round pick that you know, he's he's not expected to come in He was kind of a surprise that he's even played this well So I feel bad giving him the night the the fool But he was kind of picked on and it was apparent that you know Wherever he was that's where Castle was going and he did pick up 400 yards so yeah, you know, I his his number was kind of lit up a couple times and
21:01 Jake: It wasn't pretty especially giving up that that touchdown You have a touchdown pass I think one of the ones at the end of the game or at the end of the the second end of the second quarter I think that was over Lowry Which wasn't pretty? Yeah, I think it's tough. It is tough because it was a really good a good game But yes, if you look the one thing that kind of you know One player that kind of got picked on a little bit, he certainly did. I still say, fuck you mumbles. All right, so now let's go on to the Jet Kingdom first half, Knights Fools. So what are we going to do? We're going to do first half offense defense special teams, a Knight and a Fool for each. I was going to just say, you know, my thought was a Knight for each area and one overall Fool. You know, we don't need to do Fools for... you know, defense and special teams at everything. Oh yeah, I'm doing, I'm gonna do one for each. Okay. Every area gets, every area gets meaningful. All right, let's start off with- Wanna do defense? Let's start off with defense. All right. So you can go, give me your night of the defense. So obvious, it's not funny. Yeah, I mean, I just said it's Chris Jenkins. It's obvious that it's Chris Jenkins, I think. It's, if you could look- you across the league, the NFL. And I mean, I'm a little biased because Jeff and obviously and big enough Jeff and to do a podcast about the Jets. So pretty big Jeff. I don't know if there's been one single player that has affected. his side of the ball the way Jenkins has affected the Jets defense. They were awful last year they could not stop the run and they're essentially the same team up front except for Jenkins for Robertson. Just take Robertson out you put Jenkins in there essentially the same front seven. I mean pace for Hobson but you know not much difference there to Jenkins. Right even when even when Hobson's even when uh you know David Harris has been out uh the the production on on on Jenkins has still been high so yeah even when you take out our first you know our best linebacker there's Jenkins still plugging the hole and now he's a plug the hole because plugging the holes one thing he makes tackles He he will come around the edge after he's gone through two people and the running backs running off to the left He'll come up behind them running back get a hand on him Yeah, he makes tackles and he sacks the quarterback and just a lot of defensive tackles that sack the quarterback All right does I totally agree defensive night for Justin would have to be Chris Jenkins You know, it would be tough not to give him my defensive night, but that would just be I don't think we would allow for that. I mean, there's a lot of people out there. There's someone, I mean, David Harris. He's out. Reavis has been playing really good. Chris Jenkins, obviously.
24:02 Jake: Abram Meelem has been amazing in the last couple of weeks. But there's one player who... to me just deserve some praise because I don't think he's getting a lot of praise and he deserves to play. That's Calvin Pace. Calvin Pace has played really, really well. There's a lot of noise about him being overpaid and he's a bust and he came from the Cardinals and he had, I think it was like six or seven sacks last year or whatever, he had this breakout year and they're like, he's never going to be able to have that this year again. and He has been a big game player like when it comes to big game if it needs he'll come in he's he's been strong in the in the on the sides I Like I just he's the guy when I remember in preseason He was making all these big plays like is this really the guy I picked up and then he just kept making the big plays I I gave it to Calvin pace. I'm sorry, but the guy has really he's really shown up and every time I see him, you know make some big play. I'm like I'm glad we paid whatever 20 million dollars for him guaranteed. It's worth every freaking penny I'm calling him calvin every freaking penny pace. He's my knight of the defense. Very nice. Nice um Let's go for special teams All right. I mean this one's pretty obvious too. Well, let's do a fool for defense defensive fool defensive fool Oh, come on, oh come on. Well, he hasn't done, but he hasn't shown anything. He hasn't even played. He hasn't shown speed. He hasn't, but in the time he's been in, he hasn't shown anything. He hasn't shown speed. He hasn't shown quickness. He hasn't shown his ability to understand the play. Yes, he's being put in a, you know, in a new situation. Yes, he could be a great player. I'm not saying he's a bust. I'm not saying he's a bust. I'm saying he's a fool. Okay, fair enough. Fair enough. I'm saying he's a bust. I'm saying he's a fool. I'm not ready to call him a bust just because he, you know, you look back at Brian Thomas, it took him like three or four seasons to become effective as a player. So, and he's being thrust into draft pick. Well, that's what Brian Thomas is. He's the first round pick. Yeah, but no, effective then isn't good. You need a standout player. That's not effective is is an average. It's a c-plus. I want a starter. I want to start on a c-plus You want to start it. Give me your give me your defensive Fool I'm gonna go ahead and just pick Eric Smith just because He was put in a position to fail sort of I don't think that that free safety position on the Jets was We never ever fill that position quite right and Abramil maybe. I thought that that's why they picked up Tylaw to be honest. I thought they were going to play him at free safety. Silly me.
27:00 Jake: Apparently not. But you know I'm not on the scouting staff. So I'll just pick Eric Smith for you know taking that shot at Bolden. It was a little cheap. Not within the rule book but still a little cheap. losing his starting job so Yeah, why not? All right. I mean they're in they're playing so well. The defense is playing so well. They're stopping the run They're they're 28 from the past. So There you go, Eric Smith free safety. So you the other so let's go right into your special teams night there's only a couple guys that I can even think of a couple you know there are a couple there's there's a couple I'm gonna pick the obvious one and just say Leon you know Washington is you know very he's kind of the spark plug great return guy return one during the game New England game changes the dynamic of the team you know with the field position and You know can do both punts and kicks which is great because you know You don't have to waste a roster spot for a guy who can only return kicks or only return punts this guy plays offense Returns punts returns kicks valuable player. I'll give it to him Yeah, and you know it is tough that the other obviously side of special teams is is the kicking and punting so I'm gonna give my I'm gonna give my night I'm going to go right into my fools. I'm going to give my knight in full because it's a pair. It's a couple. It's two people in the same position. I'm giving my knight to Jay Feely who basically was cut from a Miami team, I don't know why, and then landed in our laps and has played solid. Has he played unbelievably or perfect? No, but he certainly played solid. And that just shows you go to Mike Nugent who... You know, he'd line up for things and sometimes he'd miss the most easy chip shot. He just was all over the place. He's been hurt and I'm doing air quotes for you podcast people. I'm doing air quotes. He was hurt, but he hasn't been hurt for weeks now and they just left him out there. I basically think that they're hoping that they have two kickers to go in if there's ever a situation that one gets hurt because currently we were in that position. We'll be right back. We were, you know, having Kerry Rhodes see if he could kick or whatever. So I'm giving my night and full the night for J. Feel, feel the fool is from Mike Nugent. You know, talk about talk about your first round draft pick blunders. I guess I first off, I see what you just said. I think if Nugent wasn't a draft pick, if Nugent was a J. Feelie. If he wasn't a second round pick and our first pick of that season, then you wouldn't think that of him. Really? Yeah, because he's a perfectly fine field goal kicker. He's as good or as... he's as good as anyone else out there. You know what I mean? He's no better, no worse than Jay Feely or, you know, John Carney or... or Lindo Mare or any of those guys that are out there. Justin: Oh, Lindo Mare sucks now. Jake: I mean, any of those guys, they're all kind of the same.
30:01 Jake: So if New Jim wasn't a second round pick and our first pick of that draft, you wouldn't feel that way about him. He had a very good season last year. Unfortunately, we sucked, so it didn't really matter. And it's unfortunate that he hurt himself this year. Thank you. But I think that he gets that bum rap just because he was a second round pick and who the fuck picks a kicker with their second round pick? Nobody. And you have to be a special kicker to be rude. Oh, there was so much hype about him. What do I mean? You have to be a special kicker to be kicked like that. And kicking the game winner in Ohio. And that was his new name. Anyway, whatever. So you get over yourself there on that one. I'm not picking a fool for special teams because I think the special teams unit is pretty effing solid. But I will give a shout out to Wallace Wright because he is... I thought that's where you were going with Wallace Wright on the coverage team. He's a good coverage player. No, the guy who I thought was just amazing on coverage was Eric Smith, but I haven't seen him do much this year. He's still getting down there, but Seneca, or Seneca, Jesus. Wallace Wright is the guy who's kind of taken that gunner position on. Alrighty, offense. Offensive night, offensive floor. So, I'm gonna go with, uh, for my night, I'm gonna go with the enabler. I'm gonna go with, uh, the guy who solidified... the the offense which is I'm gonna go with Alan Fannica. You know they brought in a veteran guy to sit between two young guys and kind of mentor them and bring them along and make them better. They put Alan Fannica on the left side of the line between D-Brick and Mangold and I tell you last year I was on the D-Bust bandwagon. Not anymore. They are running the ball effectively, they are protecting the quarterback. Don't see him getting called for penalties. You see him out there on wide receiver screens for on blocks which is outstanding. And I think Fanica has a lot to do with solidifying the line. So I'm going to give him the first half night for kind of enabling the rest of the team to do what they're doing. Alrighty, so first half offensive night. God, it's so goddamn obvious and easy, but I'm going to give it to someone who I've beaten up on the pass and who you owe an apology to. I don't know any apologies. You owe an apology to Thomas Jones. And it would be... Absolutely just too obvious, but I'm going to pick Thomas Jones because I think he's shown that if you say that it wasn't D-Bus last year, then it wasn't Thomas Jones last year. Thomas Jones is a good runner.
33:00 Jake: He's not a great runner. He's not a break away from the backfield and an Adrian Peterson type of runner, but he's a good runner and he can pick up the yards if given the people in front of him to give him a hole. He's scoring touchdowns, he's making catches. He made a catch, I think it was last game that I thought, wow. He turned around and the ball was there and he just picked it up and kept going. Again, from Brett Favre, that's not easy. He's really shown up. He's shown up from a guy who had one touchdown all of last year to be going into week 12 and he has nine touchdowns. around. And dare I say it, very few fumbles. He had that one fumble where he basically, his knee was on someone else's back and they were just bending him over backwards and they're like, he should have been down. In any other situation he would have been down, but he wasn't because his knee couldn't go through a player to get down. I'm giving it to Thomas Jones, you know? It's about the line. I'm giving him the so now let's let's give him a fool. Give me an offensive fool. I already give you a fool. I got one Mr.. Droppy mr.. Dropsy hands Lavernius Coles how many times we've been at a game where we're sitting there and He's standing alone and far throws in the ball and he just doesn't catch it. It like hits him in the face or something. He's Mr. Droppy Hands this year for some reason. He's used to catching the softball. So the fastball doesn't stick to the hands quite the same. And I'm gonna go ahead and give my fool to Lavernius Coles. Even though he's okay, I mean whatever. He's a great player and he can do great stuff, but you're right. Way too many drops. In fact, when you said how many times has, you know, if I can remember three, that's too many. It's too many times if you can remember three times. Yeah, exactly. When it's wide open. So three times too many, I agree. That's a good full pick. I'm going to go with somebody and this is, I know people are going to call foul, but you know, post it to the forum and tell me that it's a foul. Because I'm not calling it on his... Pal. ...on his being hurt. You don't even know what I'm talking about. I'm not calling it on his being hurt. But I'm calling it on two things. One is Jesse Chapman. First of all, I picked you to be a really good player and... What the fuck? Who cares? I care. Because he... Oh my god, I told you. This guy's nothing. And you were like, he's a superstar. Guy's awful. I'm telling you. Because he ran for the Dolphins last year on the 1 in 15 Dolphins? I'm telling you, that's why I'm pissed off because I thought he had something in on me. Not only is he suspended for four games, but then he comes back and plays one game and then it's hurt for the rest of the season on IR. He sucks. I don't give you a fool for being hurt, I gave you the fool for being suspended and not showing up. because I thought you would have really helped out in the backfield and made a good changeup between the three. That's so lame, whatever. Who's a fool? Alright, that's fine.
36:01 Jake: It's lame that I gave someone who's lame a fool. Do you know who deserves almost a... kind of a halfway night is Dustin Keller. The last like three, four weeks he's really emerged as a target for F.A.R.V. and you know a weapon. You know what you just you just started the new category of rookie rookie It's nights and rookie fools. But we'll split it up. I'll do a rookie fool and you'll do a rookie night. I just did my night. Alright. The fool again is pretty obvious. You know as much as Dustin Keller is very good. The fool's got to be Colston. He just hasn't shown up yet. I'm not saying yes. He will never show up. I'm not saying he'll be a bust. I believe that he could take a couple years. But so far he has just he didn't show enough in preseason to get him a starting job. He didn't show him. Well, he was never gonna start. People wait, they do start start. I mean, Dustin Keller started. Yeah. But he was never gonna start. Well, he could have if he'd shown up. Over who Calvin Pace? Yeah. No. This guy is like a dominator anyway. I'm giving him my rookie fool. You don't sign a free agent like Calvin Pace to then not start him. Alright, and now because we're Jett fans, we're going to give you our overall nights. No fools for overall nights. So I'll let you go first. Who's your overall night of the first half of the... I mean, I guess it's one of the three guys who I point out as a dud. that is nice. No, no, no. It has to be someone different. Well, why would I not include them in the fight? Because you're stupid and you didn't think ahead. Um, no. You suck. Um, no, really, I'd want to give it to Chris Jenkins. No, you can't. You gave him defensive. Give someone else. Overall night. You're such a jerk off. Um. Um... I don't know. Honestly, I think... You can't think of anybody? No, I mean I said who I think are the three guys who I thought kind of... Alright, so give someone else? No, I refuse. Alright, so I'll give two overall nights. The first one goes to Mr. Breadfarr. You had to give him some props. He's turned this team into, you know, from something that we used to know would lose to something that we always believed can win. and You know, there's always that shot. Wow, that's such a nice cliche you just did there. It is. Hey, you were the guy putting like the bigger guy in the box and whatever. You had about 10 of them earlier. Anyway, he is. He's he's he's a player who, yes, you know, he can also lose the game for you as any quarterback can do. But man, that's just a belief. As you said, you know, when we were all high and mighty on Brett Favre in the preseason talking about Brett magic, the reality is there is something to that. There's something to have in him out in the field that just makes you feel like, I don't
39:02 Jake: care if it's the Patriots or the Titans or whatever. Man, I think you can get it done. And he has shown us not only has he just been a good game manager, okay, he's done that in some games. And not only has he almost lost the game for us. by throwing three picks but then won it, which again, if Chad Pennington throwing three picks in a game, we're blown out 21-2, right? It's that Jacksonville game from two years ago when we was 41-0 when he threw like three picks on the sack for losses or whatever. But the thing that I think he's...and he's also shown us, the last thing he's shown us is that he can also dominate a game. He can come out and throw fucking six touchdowns and just, oh, it's fourth and one touchdown. Oh, it's fourth and five again? touchdown like he's shown and again remember Arizona not a bad team they're leaving their division they play toward Williams. That's a pretty division as it is. Yeah it is a shitty division. You know what I love about Farviz his enthusiasm his uh yeah you know his He roots for the team as if he has played for the Jets for the last 17 years. Yeah, he does. Like, you see him on the sideline and he's all like, you know, rooting for Leon, running down the sideline. All the things that you want out of like a leader, like, you kind of picked it up right, you know, right away, you know, and it's like... What is that farf magic? It's that feel, it's that enthusiasm. You ever meet a person that makes you feel kind of warm and at home, that kind of feeling? Yeah, every morning in the mirror. Hey Jake, how you doing? just brushing your teeth. But he has that kind of feeling that down home kind of makes you feel good, kind of pick you up and put you on the shoulders and carry you through tough times kind of feeling. Yeah, and when it comes to the overtime in Foxborough against the Patriots and the ball flipping over you thinking or the coin's flipping in the air, you're thinking, give us the goddamn ball, give us the ball and we will go down there and we will score and that will be the end of that. And there's a couple of that third and 15 plays just sticking in my head, because that was a play that I hate to say this, I don't think I've seen before. for. as a jet fan I don't think I've seen on the field in overtime that a must-do down 15 yards straight bomb I mean straight bullet we haven't seen that yeah but you know what we have seen we've seen far of uh you know playing for green bay on a fourth and 26 convert Yeah, I know that's true. In the playoffs, in the fourth quarter against the Eagles, you know, impossible things, the guy does them. That's true. You know, you're not supposed to convert fourth and 26 in the fourth quarter in a playoff
42:02 Jake: game, you know, on your last ditch effort to win a game and advance to the conference finals. You're not supposed to do that. but they did. So since you were not able to pick, because you got no balls, since you weren't able to pick, and then two nights. Actually, I have to go back on that. That happened against Brett Favre, now that I remember that correctly. I don't want the Jeff fans to get on me for that. That was McNabb doing that too, yeah. to the Packers. Yeah. So the magic went against Brett Favre on that one. So he he both brings the magic and brings the pain. I know. It takes a big man to correct himself. And I just did. So yeah, obviously, someday you'll be a big man. Yeah. I'll be big and fat. Not really. It'll be a perfect sphere. Yeah. I'll give the other night your or I'll give your other night to the lights. No, I'm giving one more night And I'm give it some because I think it was Bold courageous stuff that's that's happened up until this point that's really put this team where it is There's only well, there's probably two or three people you could you could give it to I'm giving it a tandem bomb because I'm sorry, but for all the shit that we got in the off-season, the spending sprees, because the NFL and the media gave a lot of shit to the spending sprees, the, you know, oh, the jet skins, they're just spending money, it's not gonna work, blah, blah, blah, oh my god, you're going after this whole quarterback, blah, blah, blah. Justin: I didn't hear that. Jake: Yeah, well, it's because you don't read, but if you read, we were getting, it's sad. We'll get you in a program, but it was a lot of crap and there was some bold moves. He pulled some bold stunts. I mean, picking up Fenneka, when at the beginning of that, you think, wow, that was a big move, right? the number one most expensive the highest paid offensive lineman, man. And then he followed it up with like move after move after move and to the point where we get Brett Favre and you're like, Jesus, that's still some good stuff. Even to pull in Tai law, I still don't know if Tai law is the answer. We've personally seen him. and it's He played pretty poorly, but I've also seen him play really well in the New England. I don't know if he still has it in him. He might, but in that game, he played pretty well. He was not the problem. He was the answer. So, again, I give it a tandem bomb. It's my first half night. We win the Super Bowl. He can have the whole thing. All right. Let's go on and let's do another segment. Let's go on for quick. in other kingdoms since it's been so long. Let's first and foremost piss off every one of our Bills fans who's listening. What the fuck happened to the Bills? They fell apart since we last had a podcast. Jesus. And they fell apart, you know, we're taping this on Tuesday. Last night the Bills played on Monday Night Football against Cleveland and they did the opposite of what Erm Edwards says to do. They literally played to lose the game. They played at the end of the game. They were losing 29-27 and Phil Dawson of the Cleveland Browns just kicked a 56-yard field goal to take the lead for
45:09 Jake: Cleveland to put them up too. And they basically went down the field. to set up a field goal for Ryan Lindell of like, I don't know, like 40 something yards? I don't know why they settled for that. They had enough time to, you know, they ran the ball in three straight plays, first down, second down, third down, just to set the ball up in the middle or wherever they could have Tried to gain some yards is what I'm trying to say. And they basically settled for like a 45-yard field goal down two with no time left and they missed it. They deserved to lose. Let's talk about what this team was on Sunday the 20th of October. when they were five and one after winning against San Diego, they were leading the AFC East, they were leading probably second or third in the AFC if you just looked at the overall rankings. Oh, everyone was on the bandwagon. They were all the way. And all we kept saying, and when I say we, I mean me, We're saying, this team has yet to play, not a good team because they played Jacksonville, they played Arizona, they played San Diego, so they lost Arizona. But it's not that they weren't a good team, but they have yet to play the AFC East. and as a certain, as every NFL fan knows, or even every fan of every sport, I guess, there's a certain thing when you come to play the teams in your division that it doesn't matter if they're 1 in 15 teams or if they're 15 and 0 teams. Those are some heated games. There's some heated games and they're not gimmes. There's no gimme. No such thing as a division gimme. And they're the games you have to win because when it comes down to it... use out all your division, you ain't going nowhere. Yeah, when you really think about the division rivalry games, a lot of teams are, and you see this with the Jets, a lot of teams are built to beat their division, like they're built to beat you. Like the Jets were almost put together to beat the Pats, you know, like, I mean, it's good, we have the Pats to look... to beat because they're one of the better teams to lead. But when you look at the teams, you build to win your division, to beat the teams in your division. And then look at the last four games. They go at Miami, lose 16-25. They come to them, they lose 17-26. They go at New England, they lose 10-20. They have New England. Cleveland comes to them, they lose 27, 29. I mean, this team has just— It's tough to lose at home on Monday night. I mean, that's awesome. And the worst part is, so now they were at the top of the AFC East. Now they're at the bottom. The 1 in 15 dolphins are now above them.
48:02 Jake: The Patriots are now above them, and the Jets are obviously way above them. And here's the worst part. Here's the worst part. They still gotta play all three of us again. Yeah. So not only have we won three against them, if they lose to two out of the three, I mean, if they lose. They're donners. Yeah, they're totally donners. I think they're done already. I mean, at five and five. They're not done at five and five, but they're close. It's close in the AFC. I mean, they do have some cake walk teams coming up. They've got Kansas City, San Francisco. coming up so they can tell I mean you look at the Jets they're playing sandwiches go in Seattle I mean those are but I don't want it if I were the dolphin if I were the Bills fan which I'm not because I have more teeth than eyes I would say that you know looking at that last four weeks of the year and I got Miami Jets, Denver, at Denver. So okay, Denver could be an on and off team, but at Denver, that sucks. And New England, that's a tough four games. You lose to two of those teams and you're not going anywhere because they're all three AFC and three of the four AFCs. Alrighty, so and then let's talk about the Miami Dolphins because... and First thing to say, I did have to don some dolphins apparel to get on the sidelines because apparently wearing Jets jerseys on the sidelines of the dolphins is inappropriate. I will say they did win over Raiders, which apparently we weren't able to do. So, you know, I would like to say it was just the Raiders except for we lost to them. But the Dolphins are unbelievable. They are really unbelievable. They're not a great team. I think they're winning off of what we won two years ago. Remember when we were 10-6 and we were winning off all those trick plays and stuff like that? That's how they're winning. They're winning because people don't know what to expect of them. They're winning because they don't have basically these players playing different things they've never seen. I mean, people seen Chad Painton but... They don't really know how he's going to play in this thing. They haven't seen some of these players. Their defense is really playing pretty well. Do I think they're a great team? No. Do I think that they're going to win the division? No. Do I think that they should sneak into the playoffs? They probably could. We were talking about it. Again, I don't think they will. I mean, when you look at kind of, you know, what they've done over the last four weeks, they've won four weeks in a row. And you know, a couple of those games, you know, the last two haven't been too difficult.
51:03 Jake: Home against Seattle, home against Oakland. They went to Denver and they won. They beat Buffalo. Well. Yeah, they didn't they didn't beat Seattle convincingly and they didn't beat well They don't beat anybody convincingly when you look at their games. They don't blow anyone out. This is champion running this team This is maybe they beat Buffalo convincingly and they beat Denver convincingly 25 16 is convinced like 26 17s convincingly They also beat New England 38 13. So remember this is this is a team that finished last they were they have you know the last place schedule, if you will. I mean, they, they, but when you look at their schedule, they have, they have nothing really, you know, they have New England and, and they have the division games, those three, but the three games outside of the division, when you look, St. Louis, Kansas City, and San Francisco, they should win those games. Uh, you know, so that gives them nine wins. Yeah, well that's... They might back into the playoffs here with ten wins if they can beat Buffalo. That's what I just said, dude. It's six of four right now. Yeah, you might get it. And if they've already beat New England, can they beat them again at home? Maybe. I don't think so. Can they beat the Rams? You bet they can. Can they beat at Buffalo? You're saying Buffalo sucks. They could probably beat Buffalo. They can certainly beat San Francisco. No, see, that's the thing. I think... I don't think that they're going to win in Buffalo in December. I just don't see it happening. Okay, well again, it could happen. I'm not saying that they can't, but they could. San Francisco, Kansas City, the last two of the games coming up. They could beat San Francisco and they could beat Kansas City. So yeah, you could be looking at a team that when that last game happens, that Sunday, that could be a very meaningful game. That could be a hugely meaningful game. That could be like a home field type of game or a... Maybe they'll flex that game up. Maybe although funny they haven't flex that that Titan Titans game. We'll get to in a second. All right now Let's talk about let's talk about the Patriots clearly Decimated with injuries. No one's gonna take that away from them But god, they're still in it like you would think without Brady. They were very well Six and four very well coached team. Yeah, they're very well put together They they they know their roles every player. They've been killed with injuries on both sides of the ball. At this point I don't even consider the Brady injury, but you gotta still count it. Missing basically the best player in the league. That sucks. Losing your starting running back, that sucks. And then losing basically... the backup to him that sucks too and we just stored out there defense a lot of Harrison Colvin they're all or not Colvin Thomas Daley's Thomas tons of guys just you know big players for them let's look at the rest of their schedule they got at Miami then they got
54:02 Jake: Pittsburgh at home, at Seattle, at Oakland, Arizona at home. and at Buffalo. Not too tough. I mean... Oh, Pittsburgh's tough. His division games are tough on the road. But it's Pittsburgh at home. Well, the division games are on the road, which is tough. Yeah. The Arizona game could go either way. Seattle and Oakland, they're gonna beat up on. That last weekend where there in Buffalo and Miami is in the Meadowlands, that's a very interesting weekend. I think this is going to be a very close call all the way down. I want to put out one for nostication right now. uh... And I know we were talking about a little bit today, so I thought I'd throw it on the podcast just so everybody else can hear it. Two predictions. One prediction, two players. 2009 Jets led by. And this is a... Oh, I don't see this happening at all. I know, well, that's why I'm gonna say it. So then we can... so we have it on record and then when it happens I can tell you how wrong you are. 2009 Jets led by. One of these two players as the quarterback one of these three players. They're the one being Brett Favre. Okay, whatever maybe comes back I'm not putting my hopes on them. I'm on that camp by the way. Yeah. Yes I know that's why I had to throw it out there two players think about this jet nation jet Kingdom Derek Anderson or I know hold on for it. Hold on for it Matt Castle think about those two things we will see you in September there you go go Jess so anyway that's that's the other kingdoms and I am I still think Brett Favre is gonna be starting next year but that's my own personal opinion it's because you all right let's talk about week 11 no let's talk about week 12 because that would be more interesting yeah you mean you mean the fact that we're playing the best Well, I don't know if they're the best team, but the team is the best record. They're not the best team. I think the Giants are the best team. Giants are the best team in the league. I watch them every week. I watch every one of their games, and they are clearly the best team. They are the most balanced team, you know, offense. They can throw. They can run. Defense they can stop the pass they can stop the run special teams. They can kick the ball. They can return the ball They can cover the ball. They're They're exceptional. They have no flaws not that I can see They are very good team and they won the Super Bowl so they've got that in their belt, too I totally agree. Yeah, I can't put the Kerry Collins lead team ahead of the Giants. I just can't, even though they're 10-0 or 11-0, whatever the fuck their record is. 10-0. I can't put them ahead of the defending Super Bowl champion Giants with, for the.
57:05 Jake: All right, so let's talk about let's talk about let's start off with their own picks with talking about the New York Jets at Tennessee Titans well, you know the lines are the early lines that are out there somewhere between The Jets getting four and a half to five and a half points I mean obviously we're not picking against the lines, but that's not bad That's not you know, I think that that's giving the Jets a little respect there on the road against the 10-0 team getting four and a half, five and a half points. This is going to be a tough game with that said. I never picked the Jets to lose, and I am not going to. I actually have a really good feeling about this. I was so close to picking them to lose, but I have a really I have a good feeling about this game. I feel like they're going to be able to go in there and stop the run. which is the key to beating Tennessee because they have keys to the carry they have very good running backs. Lendell White is really good short yardage back. He's a big bruiser and they have this young guy named I think it's Chris Johnson is his name. You'll you'll see a lot of him. He's basically their Reggie Bush. He's their offense. They hand him the ball. They throw him the ball. They get him the ball in open spaces where he can do stuff. He's very fast. So stopping the run is going to be key. And we do that pretty well. So I have a good feeling about the game. I think the offense is going to be able to move the ball. At times, it's going to look like a sloppy thing. But I think the Jets are going to grind one out and win by the final score of 16-13. in. Wow, I totally agree. If I had to pick the keys to the Kingdom for this game, I would say, you're right. It's stopping the run, but I think more importantly, I don't like the quarterback having a lot of time back there. I think this is a game we kind of play off and on. You'll notice that some weeks we were like, we're all over the quarterback and the next week, I could barely touch him. I think this is a week that Kerry Collins He's going to see a lot of the dirt. And I think an old man like that hitting a lot of the dirt is going to be bad for him. And I think he's going to be taken out of his game. I think he's going to throw in picks. I think he's going to be off. And I see the Jets winning 17-16. I will say the surprising player of the game will be, not surprising because we know he's good, but I think the one that went... People go back and look at the game. They're gonna look back and they're gonna go the matchup that we should be looking at Nick man gold against What's the nose tackles name Albert Haynes worth Haynes worth that's right. Well, it's funny because on the other side there's there's you know If you want to look at it that way, Hanesworth versus Reingold, our old friend Kevin Mwai
1:00:02 Jake: is still the starting center on Tennessee against Chris Jenkins. So it's interesting match-ups on both sides of the ball. That will be good. Up front. Let's hope it's Jenkins all over him all day. Well, he's much bigger than Kevin Mwai. Much bigger. You know, Kevin Mwai was actually a smaller, kind of more agile center. So it'll be interesting. Buffalo at KC, I mean you don't want to be, first of all you don't want to go to Kansas City. No one wants to go to Kansas City. Kansas City is playing better these days. They're playing, they are playing better. They're still not winning, but they're playing better. They're playing like a team that... In true Herm fashion, they're still not winning, but they're playing better. This is a tough one because I think if I pick with my mind, I have to say that Buffalo is the better team and we'll win this game. These are factoring in things. You factor in, okay, he's at home, Casey has nothing to lose, nothing to win, nothing to lose for, nothing to play for. They're just kind of out there maybe having a little fun. Buffalo's coming off this big loss that maybe is like a little heartbreaking to kind of come off a Monday night loss and then have to go on the road against a very loud stadium. Um. All that being said, I still think Buffalo's gonna win this game, and I think really, it's gonna get out of control pretty quickly. You know, TIG Pen's gonna be throwing interceptions, and I say it's because Buffalo 31-10. Yeah, I tend to agree with you that Buffalo's the better team. in that situation but I think that there's that there's gonna be something about the way that Kansas City has been playing the last couple weeks with Digpen been playing a little better and Buffalo is just beat right now so I think Kansas City is gonna actually win this game I really do I think Buffalo is gonna be in one of those kind of tailspins. And I think the final score is going to be something along the lines of like 24 or 17. Not bad. You know, it could go. Again, it could go either way. I just somehow feel that, you know, my heart's really saying, oh, you know, let Buffalo have another loss and then they're done. I mean, maybe I just picked with my heart a little bit, but I think Kansas City's playing a little better as of late and Buffalo's playing like shit. and with the shortly coming off of my day and i lost at home and i just don't like now the probably the the the another good matchup and one that i will be watching because i have to uh... but also because of the on-screen as my games are watching two screens the same time good game good game good game new new england at miami a probably you know if you look at this game last year the or the when the schedule came out like okay so my it's going to destroy I knew it was going to destroy Miami twice and that's the end of that. Now that they've lost, now that the Dolphins beat New England in New England 31, 38, 10 or whatever the crazy thing is and just romped up and down on them, you've got to think,
1:03:04 Jake: God, they've got a chance to win this game. I don't think they will though. I think Miami, they're running out of tricks. They were running out of tricks against the Raiders. I watched it. And they play that wildcat. and they play it and they play it and they play it and you're like, come on, dude, you're not going anywhere with it anymore. It's not getting you anything. Yeah, when you played it against New England, it was really cool and man, you scored touchdowns but just give it up already. Start to, you need to play a little bit more real football because people are starting to sniff that one out. And if they're ever, there might not be a, it might not be a young defense and it might not be a, you know, fast defense anymore but I'll tell you, there's probably no smarter defense. then the England Patriots and they're not gonna let that happen to them again. In fact, if you do the Wildcat, I could see them being them popping you one and taking points off you for it. So as much as I think Miami has a chance, I don't think they're gonna get much out of this game. And again, their offense was not really pumping against the Raiders D. I'm gonna call this one 27-13 for New England. Yeah, I like your thinking on this one. I think long week to prepare for Belichick. Pissed off a sell that he just lost a division game. Not gonna wanna lose two of those in a row. Gonna have his team prepared as well as he could. I think was it was it The the pats who the dolphins just initially Used the wildcat on was it was this like the first time that they kind of used it I think I feel like it's the first time that was that successful that's successful And they used it like eight or ten times and I think they use it the week before but I don't think it's that Successful right so and the pats just couldn't adjust to it for some reason Well, I think they're gonna be ready for it this time. And I think that they're gonna be ready for Champ Hennington, and that means bad news for Miami. So I think your score is right around on target. I'll go with a 31 to 10. victory for the Patriots.
