11 Justin: are high. Get used to it. It's always gonna be that way. Jake: Welcome to the Jack King podcast. As always on this side of the digital desk, it's Jake and joining me, my good buddy with his new haircut looking spiffy. Thank you. It's Justin. Justin, how are you doing? I'm doing great. I didn't know this desk was digital. It feels like wood to me. Have you? Do you notice wood? That probably sounds really good. to the people of Smith. Right in the ear. You've seen all the electronics on top of it that are recording digitally. There is a snowball. That's why I'm saying it's digital. Alright, we got a lot to talk about today and not a lot of time to talk about it. So we're going to talk about the Dolphins game, the Knights and Plays of the game. We're talking about injuries and things happening. Um, talking about other kingdoms, maybe quickly. We'll go through our pick'em, we'll do our throne picks, we'll wrap it up, and we'll be done. Wow, that's a lot. Let's get into it. Let's. you You can't take it out of it. So you are letting this game lead exactly like the whole game. We did not look like we were winning. I don't know what happened. Maybe it's because we jumped out to a 14.8 lead and gave it up. It just didn't It didn't feel like we were winning the game at all, but in reality we were winning pretty much from the get-go. There was literally one play. We weren't winning. There's something that kept being said over and over again that the announcers were saying and I think really came true, which is the Dolphins are matched up really well against us. They do match up well against us. I mean, they literally do the things that we don't, you know, they match up so well that this was... a back and forth game. Yes, we were winning, I agree with you. There was no part of this game, like the Raiders game last year, we came out. There was no point in that game where we were losing. We were winning the minute our feet touch the field, we were winning. This game, you just didn't feel like we were winning. You felt like you were losing the entire time. It was odd from a statistical. point of view as well when where Chad Henny goes for 363 but they can't run for the life of them we held them to like under a hundred yards rushing which when I think of the Dolphins I think of them as a rushing team they only ran for 84 yards but Chad Henny's going nuts I mean it's clear that you know when when Reavis comes back things will hopefully you know get put into their
03 Jake: place where Brandon Marshall can't go nuts it'll be fun to watch the next time If he has anywhere close to what do you have a hundred and hundred and 66 yards on 10 catches. I don't think that'll happen with rebates on him, but You know again defense missing three starters We're making excuses for winning the game making excuses for for giving up You know however many points 23 points to a team that I don't think we should be giving up 23 points to and by the way We gave up 23, but there was another six or six seven or eight in there that we should have given I mean that we were very lucky not to they drove that last drive down the field I'm like there's no way they're gonna be able to drive like there's a stupid first down play I don't understand why you do that on first down from wherever they were the seven or the eight and they throw a fade pattern. That's the play that Chrome already can cover Marshall on. That's a wasted down. They should have ran the ball for four yards and gotten to a four yard situation where you could do almost anything. But they shot themselves in the foot at the end of the game. Reminded me a lot of last year where we were winning until the very last play and they ran it in for a touchdown and we lost. But hey, victory, first place in the AFC East. Pretty cool. We got the Dolphins off our back. You know what, we got through the first three games which looked like a miserable first three games of the schedule and come out 2-1, that looks pretty good. And the upside is higher because the first game we looked miserable but in the last two games we looked better so I feel like we're trending the right direction. Couple of things. Certainly on offense. Three questions about the Dolphins, remember? Could they score an offense? Clearly yes. Could they beat a team, a winning team, or a team that's won a game? No. And what was the other question? Could they stop the run? They actually did. Yeah, that's true. They didn't do a great job. They didn't really stop the run. I mean, we outroached them. We had 146. rushing yards total. Some of it was wildcat shenanigans, some of it was straight up LT. LT's out playing Sean Green right now, he's playing out of his mind better than he's played in years. Maybe he really wasn't during the last couple years, who knows, but keep playing like this and I'll be happy. I think you and I were sort of texting back and forth or during the game or tweeting at each other Like why are we trying to out wildcat the wildcat team? But you know what it worked it worked it really did we had like a and this will sort of segue into our Play of the game and our night because I'll call my play the game right now Which was it was a third in I want to say it was like 3rd and 14, 3rd and 16 down in the Dolphin's red zone. And we ran a Wildcat and Brad Smith broke it for like, you know, 17 yards or 16 yards. He got the first down.
01 Jake: I thought that was an enormous play in the game where Brad Smith was able to break that. And he is actually my knight of the game. There were a lot of players. Yeah, there were a lot of players to choose from because there were a bunch of players that played really well particularly on offense I'm sure you'll pick one of them But Brad Smith did a lot in this game. He ran for over 40 yards in the wildcat He was dangerous on kick returns to the point where I think they kicked one out of bounds Because they didn't want to kick it to hear him, but he was getting us great field position And he even caught a big third down catch for a first down on the first drive of the game, which gives a lot of confidence in the team. So he did everything. So he plays special teams, plays offense, does the wildcat. I'm giving him my night of this game. because he was that important. I'm going to tell you the people I'm not picking for my nights. Why would you do that? Because there are so many people that could get nights for it. You could do Braille and Edwards for doing a, coming off a horrible week in terms of drinking and driving and arresting and all this sort of stuff. And then coming in and getting, you know, and basically being a game changer, one blown play that he ran in for touchdown, but great, and he made another great catch. You could give it to Jason Dale or for going back to his home. like the place that he wants to be and that's what I learned about all the post interviews. He wants to be there but he's not there. So it's a difference then like someone like that wants to leave, he wants to be there. And playing his heart out and getting another sack and so... Being the only captain to go out for the coin toss. Strange, strange way of doing that. And getting his head smashed by Rex at the end of the game. Yeah, that was cute. You gave it to for Thomas and for again just having a great game of keeping the ball through... The one, when we needed that one yard, he got it for us. How many knights are you gonna pick? These aren't my knights. Oh, you're just gonna give them honorable mentions. Honorable mentions! And then Mark Sanchez, second game in a row of three touchdowns, zero picks. Two very close picks, but doesn't matter. Doesn't, won't show up in the end result. Um, but I'm sorry, when you're, when this game turned at the beginning of the, um... This game turned at the beginning of the first drive with the touchdown. When we went out there, drove down and Dustin Keller caught that, which was an incredible catch, lands on his tukus. He gets my night and played the game for that play because that I think set the tempo. That we then kept the entire game, which was we're going to score points on you, you're going to have to keep up with us. This is not, remember the preseason, we can't score a touchdown. We could barely, I think we scored two in four games, something like that. This is not us. Now of course, you could say we were a great defense in the preseason and that's not us either. So I'm gonna give it Dustin Keller, that touchdown, 23 yards, end zone, great, poor coverage by the. corner. That is all over. If he doesn't catch it there's a flag coming out.
02 Jake: Probably. Probably. Which is the stupidest thing. I have a question for you. Go on. Okay. Defense. You worried? Nope. Okay. Here's why. It's three games in. Yep. And I'll shove Jenkins aside. You're not getting him back. But once your best pass rusher and the best cornerback in the league are back on the field, that's a different ballgame. Because Pace puts pressure on like no one else on the team can. And if there's more pressure, the quarterback has to make a quicker decision and he doesn't have half the field. So I'm, I mean look. Yet another good segue. a good segui. So the segui is into basically three things that are happening in this team this week. Rivas, not gonna play. Rivas, not gonna play. That's fine. He doesn't have to play this game. We said we didn't want him to play. We want him to play this game. I'm not scared of Roscoe Parrish and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Although they kept up with the Patriots. So now I think this is a game to see whether the Patriots are for you or not. The Patriots were beating them and they just sort of... the Patriots. past defense kind of stuff. Pace looks like he's gonna limited role. Good. Practice is what we kind of wanted. Just don't hurt yourself just come out have a couple good plays get it get the get it out of your system. Taylor's playing well so it's okay. Yep and then Coleman taking over so the Kyle Wilson's gonna go he's gonna go into you know the nickel and this guy's gonna be starting corner well he's gonna start this game and then once Reavis comes back he's gonna slide back to the number four because he's not gonna he's not gonna be the nickel corner Kyle Wilson's gonna be the nickel corner that's his spot right they're essentially saying look this is what we want you to do this year your rookie We're going to coach you up to do this. We don't want you playing on the outside because it's not working. So you're going to do this and we're going to... Really he just needs to learn to get his head around. Yes, that's it. Because he's covering guys. It's just his head's not turning around and the guy's catching it when he's turned around. If he just turns his head he'd see the ball and hope... knock it down. Or he's getting the penalties. So he's getting a penalty or it's getting caught or both. Either way it's bad. But he's got speed because he can keep up with anybody. Well he's a rookie. I mean not everyone's Dorell Reivis could come in and cover Randy Moss in their first year. So I'm gonna combine two segments into one. Go for it. I'm gonna combine the old other kingdoms into old new pool. So old pool was how do you like the How do you like the new Metal N Stadium? How do you rate it? And I will tell you what that results are right now. I I have a feeling the new pole has something to do with X-Chats running backs. And the new pole is... Let's just talk about the old pole first for a second. It looks like... Wow, it's all over the place. We had A, B, C, D, or F.
00 Jake: for epic fail and it looks like the biggest one is 31% giving it a C, 25% gave it an A, 25% gave it a B, no one gave it needs work. Generally people like it. They like it, they hate it. Well C is not hating. Average. That's not hate. 1.8 billion dollars. for average. Averages and hate. I'm saying I wouldn't want 1.7 billion dollar average anything. Yeah they could have done a better job. So yeah so the new poll this week is going to be when I put it up right when I put this podcast. Talking about the three, well we actually could have four but let's call it three running backs that we had. and that we're sort of playing last week and did okay. So Woodhead scored a touchdown for the Patriots. They all scored touchdowns. Washington scored two touchdowns. On special teams. On special teams, but that's where we used to use them too. And then Jones, Tom Jones, one or two, one. I think he scored a touchdown. He did score, I think he did as well. Just one. So that's kind of saying something. I mean, this isn't. You know, it's a long season and Thomas Jones might go out in week five and never play again and you know It could have won but as of this week if you look at the microcosm Which one of those players did we look like we fumbled the ball on and should have capped neither? None. You are such a homer. I'm not a homer. There's a perfectly good explanation for it Danny woodhead was not playing on his team So scrap him Leon Washington got severely injured and to be honest we you know we didn't know if he could play running back and he's not really playing running back for Seattle he's just returning kicks and Brad Smith's doing an okay job at that and we can honestly throw we can in our system we could throw anyone back there and they can return kicks it's happened for the last five to seven years dating back to, you know, Justin Miller, who was not in the League anymore, was a pro bowl returner for us. And Thomas Jones was... this is the one... he was... the way I look at the Jets backfield, Sean Green replaced Thomas Jones. LT replaced Leon Washington. And if you remember before Leon got heard, Sean Green never played. This was really a two-back system. It was the big guy who runs up the middle and gets the yards and then the quick guy who could catch passes. LT is that quick guy who could catch passes and come out of the backfield and do the sweeps and the end-arounds. And Sean Green is the guy who's supposed to take over for the Thomas Jones role. It's just not working out as well as it was planned, but it's still working. the way that we planned out. I mean we did rush for 146 yards. Yeah but Wildcat and Brad Smith had a lot to do. Whatever that's that's the game. Hold on Spanky. You're saying that Thomas Jones was replaced by Sean Green. But Thomas Jones was the guy who started all season long, pounded the hard
02 Jake: hard Ball and got those three to four yards. We're three games in a bit. Oh, but that's what the don't name Tom's is doing right now He's starting and he's the one pounding and getting three yard plays. They're both starting. They're starting next to each other Yeah, but in theory they're both gonna have anywhere between 10 to 15 touches a game I think the problem is we lost Thomas Jones and and it's not a problem in Washington, but it's not If I'm saying it, it is, that's my opinion and I can say it. Well, I can tell you it's not. Well, that's your opinion. Yeah, and that's another opinion you're on. The problem is we're putting a lot of pressure on LT to do... He's doing both the Lee and Washington run out, catch balls and run fast. And he's also doing the one yard, we gotta get the yard, gotta get two yards, give it to LT. I want Sean Green to be in there doing more of one of those. think it's gonna be catching the ball so he's got to be doing those hard yards and so far it looks like much more on on LT's plate than Sean Green's. You probably may have more on. Yes, pretty much. I said much more on. Well he had 10, 10 rushes last week where LT had 15. In reality it should probably be flipped. Yes. But it's... It's a game by game situation. If LT's running the ball really well, which he was, then they're gonna keep giving him the ball. Just like if Leon was running well last year in the beginning of the year and Thomas Jones wasn't, then they would give Leon the ball. I think we're fine. We don't have to worry about the fact that these three guys had good weeks all in one week. Oh well, you know, we got rid of them. That's last year. We move forward with what we have and I think what we have is working. Thanks for watching! Alright, let's talk about other things you're wrong about. The Jet Kingdom Pick'em! I'll just segouly right into that because how'd you do last week there, buddy? I look at the big picture. Oh, you're still looking at the big picture. Although I lost to you last week, 10-8. I am still beating you for the season. But you're still, yeah, but you're trending bad. Oh, 10-8 last week. 8 is not bad. 10 is really good against the spread. I'll say it. a good week. I won the week. That's great. Not only did I have the good week, I won the week. It's a good week. I won the week. 10 is really good. Who. You didn't win the week. But who's winning the season? No, who's winning? Who's winning? Mike! Who's winning between us? Wait, so wait, Mike's winning the season. Who's winning between us? Oh yes, you're winning by applause. Well, that's... Victory lap. Do it. Just take it around the table. I just did right now. Yeah, okay. So yeah, Lawdog and I won the week. Congrats to us. And Mike is still winning and you're just caught in the middle. Between now and the week. That's a load of crap. So let's go for a pick. For all of you new to the podcast this week, by the way, we forgot to mention last week, huge numbers in terms of the podcast. I think it has something to do with the Jets beating the Pats. Probably maybe who cares or that genius a,' the genius of us. I'm throwing it out there as a big thank you to everybody out there. Thank you for downloading podcast. It was a huge week. Biggest week ever. I mean biggest week ever. It covered every other week. It was all unbelievable.
03 Jake: Thank you very much. Do it again. Do it again. Show us you could continue doing it. Yes. Do it. So all right. After you're new to the podcast, which a lot of you are, every week we do two kinds of picks. We do a picks called the Jet Kingdom pick them. We pick against other people. So with the spread, we then avoid the AFC each. We'll see if Justin can do it this week. I got it this week. It's an easy one. Because of the last two of the games. It's an easy one. And then we pick those with scores. So go Justin. Only two AFC East matchups. Again. So last week. Yep. So the first game on the list, again this is Wednesday, the final lines won't be until Thursday, but we're looking at Wednesday's lines, although we are recording this on Thursday. Atlanta's home, taking on the 0-3 San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta's giving 7, I have Atlanta. I'll take Atlanta to San Francisco's imploding. They just fired their offensive coordinator. I'm not sure it was really the problem. Great, I was watching Mike and Mike this morning. while at the gym. San Francisco has two number one draft pick overall quarterbacks and yet has a quarterback problem. I love it. They have two? Who else besides Alex Smith? David Carr. Two number one picks. Within the last 10 years. Yeah. Alright. Cincinnati favorite on the road road in Cleveland by three. I will take Cleveland at home. Not gonna take Cleveland. I don't think Cleveland's got it. I'll take Cincinnati cover three points. I'll take the point. He's got it. There's gotta be a game where like Ocho and Tio the Ocho Tio That's of Carson Palmer could actually throw the ball, but he stinks since now. He's got to get back to the run That's how I'm one thing. That's how they rent. They won games last year I don't know why they've abandoned this run they won with the run last week as Palmer stinks Well, that's what they're gonna do this week Green Bay's home after a bad moment at loss They are hosting Detroit and giving 14 and a half points and I will pick them to win by more than that. I do not like 14.5 points spreads. I'm gonna pick Detroit. Detroit's been playing okay. They have like ups and downs. This could be a week where in division. If it was in Detroit, I'd definitely take Detroit but I'm gonna take Detroit. If it was in Detroit, it wouldn't be 14. Since I was better last week. Whatever. Tennessee's home hosting Denver giving six and a half. Tennessee beat up on a really bad Giants team. I'm gonna pick Denver on the road and I'll take the points. I think Tennessee might win by three. Agreed, I'll take Denver. Seattle heads to St. Louis and Seattle is actually giving points to St. Louis. They're giving a point. It's essentially sort of a pick-up. I'll take St. Louis at home. Seattle can't win on the road. Wow! Seattle's been playing up and down. I think they are up at home because they are real home field advantage. I think this is a week that Seattle does well and actually wins, so I'm just saying Seattle a point. A point, so they'll cover it. New Orleans coming off a loss.
01 Jake: Home hosting the awful, maybe one of the worst two teams in the league, Carolina, the other one being Buffalo. I... New Orleans giving 13 and a half. I say they win by 30 I'll take New Orleans with the full I'll take New Orleans at home. I'll take them take them more than 13 points This could be one of the best games of the week Pittsburgh hosting Baltimore Pittsburgh giving one I wish Roethlisberger was back for this game, but so that was you see Charlie batch like Yeah, whatever. I just wish it was a full so like if they lose it's not like oh well We didn't have raw you know one of those type of things, but I'll take Baltimore to go in there and beat Pittsburgh I just can't imagine that they're gonna be 4-0 without Ben. So I think it's the reason why I think they will their defense is Playing very well. They are Paul. I'm all well Paul model on the field equals good defense. Pittsburgh at home sorry I'm gonna take them I don't care who's playing quarterback. Houston coming off the loss to Dallas goes to Oakland and is favored by three points. I'm picking Houston off the loss. Yeah Houston. Oakland lost a bag. Did you see how they lost that game? No. Oh my god they they outplayed Arizona and they were down by like one or two. I think down one. and they drove down the field to like the 10 and set up a field goal with no time left and Jadakowski just pushed it. He's like 95 years old isn't he? No he's whatever he that was bad loss I'll take Easton. Indy going to Jacksonville where they historically have some issues and they're giving seven and a half, but Jacksonville Could also be in that top, you know, top five bottom five teams in the league I'll I'll pick the Colts even though I'm not that confident about it. I'll pick the Colts giving seven and a half Yeah, I'm gonna take the Colts to Big game just because of the players. Philly's home hosting Washington so McNabb's back in Philly. Philly's giving six. I'm going to pick Washington. I think McNabb comes up big. Oof, Washington played very well last week. No they didn't. That's why I think they're going to come up big. Against the Rams, right? They lost to the Rams. in St. Louis. Yeah, no, I think this is like the Michael Vick story game, whatever. McNabb, they're not going to cheer you when you come on the field. 11 years is nothing. You're the opposing team now. They're going to boo the hell out of you. They're going to make your wife miserable. Sorry, kid. You're going to lose. We cheered Chad Peddington when he came back to the Netherlands. He did nothing compared to what McNabb did. We also cheered him when he broke his arm. I mean, we're a weird crew. Anywho. Oh, yeah. Fill your... They're mean motherfuckers. True story. True story. San Diego home to Arizona. San Diego giving eight. That's a lot of points for a one and two team. Although Arizona'slandish not good, I'll take the points. I'll take Arizona. I'm gonna take San Diego because even they lost last game and they lost it, when they wanted to go down the... down the field like five times.
01 Jake: They scored the touchdown, it was pulled back, as I remember. He scored like four straight. I kept pulling back, then he scored the two point conversion, and they pulled it back. Leon killed him. Yeah, so I think without that, they would have won by, with no Leon, they would have won by 14. Leon was there. Just a little side note in my fantasy league. I lost by one point, and Phil Rivers dropped a 40 burger on me, and that wasn't cool. Alright, go for it. The lowly Giants are home Sunday night facing the Chicago Bears who just won in the Soldier Field on Monday night. So they are undefeated. The Giants giving four actually to Giants. Even though I... Here's the thing Chicago Going on the road after playing Monday night big in division win Giants just got their parts kicked at home It's one of those kinds of momentum game type like I can't see the four now I think that I think you can't see anybody going for now. Well, not the Bears Who's the team's going for? No, there's only three teams. They're one of them time you know place doesn't matter. There you go. Nobody I agree with you, I think the Giants win. This is the one I'm playing the spread. I think the Giants will win, but I don't think they're going to win by a lot. I think Chicago's defense and peppers and all that are going to keep you alive. If you've seen the U.S., he's getting sacked, he's throwing interceptions. I know a lot of tips, but I don't think they're going to win big. If they're going to win, I can win by a point. I'll take the... I think... Chicago. Alright, well let's go to the AFC East. Alright, let's go to our throne picks. Let's go to our throne picks. And we'll start on Monday night with New England in Miami. Miami playing two weeks in a row on prime time. By the way, have you noticed, speaking of prime time, that there has been a New York team in prime time basically every week of the season, which will continue this week and next week? Wow. Like, were started off Monday Night Football, then the Giants played Sunday Night. Then we played Sunday night, the Giants were playing again Sunday night, we're playing next week on Monday. There's been a New York team pretty much every week. That's crazy. On prime time. Anyway, a little side note. So Miami home facing New England. This is a rough game. It's hard to call. I think in the end Miami showed me a lot last week where New England didn't show me much when we played them. I think Henny's gonna have another good game because the New England Defense and backfield is just not very good. I'm gonna pick Miami to win there by the way New England's actually favored by a point which I don't understand Miami being home. I'm gonna pick Miami to win outright 2320 I agree and and Tom Brady has a bad record down there. I think he's three and six He's thrown ten interceptions down playing in Miami I think the heat the whole stuff that like made our defense look slow and the heat was a big issue
00 Jake: It's good is gonna get to them and those guys play under that I think they're gonna play after losing this game the jet and they're gonna play out of their minds. I think Henny's a better quarterback than I thought he was before. They can score. He looks good. And Mark Sanchez can whip up the secondary of the Patriots. Chad Hennings can be able to do it with Marshall. I think they'll use the Wildcats successfully. I think our defense, here's the thing, I think our defense is better than the Patriots defense. They have no linebackers. And they should have scored 30- points on us. They can only score 24 but they should have scored 30 or 31. So I think they're gonna win and I think they're gonna basically get out there and beat up on them. I think it's gonna be 34-28. Miami. Yeah. I think it's gonna be basically the game that you just watched play but the other way around. Gotcha. And they're in the game of the week. Game of the week. Game of the century. 3. The New York Jets go all the way up to Western New York to face the lowly Buffalo Bills, one of the two worst teams in the league. Now this is, and this is why this episode will be named, Beware Admiral Akbar, who famously said in Star Wars, probably, Empire Straits. back maybe? No, Star Wars, the original Star Wars or number three or number six or whatever you want to do it. He said he's known for saying it's a trap. This is the trap game right? It's a really bad team that we that Sanchez looked really bad against last year. It's in Buffalo which generally don't do well. It's a windy stadium. It's all the things you don't want. We're leading the Exe East. I am concerned about this game. And if I'm concerned, I'm concerned enough to say we're gonna lose. I'm not concerned enough say I'm on sane. But I'm concerned enough to say that we are going to know we're gonna win this game. But as a jet fan, I'm pins and needles this week because Buffalo is just one of the teams that they could be one game that game will be against the Jets to keep us out of the playoffs I mean they'll just they'll do that to us they don't have any I don't think they have any weapons Lee Evans CJ Spiller returning punts or kicks but we've good stuff haven't integrated him into the offense really this could be one of those games that we lose like against Miami last year where we have to you know to punt returns or kick returns for touchdowns they do against us and I got their only scores like this could be one of these games So, I hope you guys have a great day. I'm glad to get pace back, although I don't think he's really gonna make a difference. It's practice. Um, alright, so let's call it. What are you gonna call it? Jets win 27-13. I say Jets win 27-17. Very similar. Very similar this week. I was much more on target last week because you said it was gonna be 9-6. And it was what? Uh, what was it? 31-23? Duh!
