03 Jake: This is episode 66 of the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Super Bowl 44. Justin: of the women. Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom Podcast. As always on the pre-Super Bowl post letdown in the playoff digital aisle, it's Jake and joining me... Somewhere on the same aisle is a good friend Justin Justin. How you doing? Justin: I'm alright as good as it can be without the Jets being in the Super Bowl You know this is what it is Jake: It is what it is. I will say First of all to all you loyal listeners, which you are growing so Good on you for that. We did take the week off. That wasn't a mistake. It's not, you know, it wasn't a 65.5 episode. This is really the next episode, partly due to timing and partly just to let the wounds heal. If you know anything about the podcast, we usually do podcasts. If the Jets win, we do it on Tuesday. If they lose, we do it on Thursday based on to try to, you know... Give it an extra couple days to look forward to the next game. Well, in this way, since they lost in the AFC Championship, it was to give us a whole week to feel better. I do feel better, but I'm sure after talking about it, I'll feel worse. But let's talk about the agenda first. So we're going to talk about the Jets versus Indy AFC Championship game. I was there in all my gory. I will pick our fools and play of the game for that game. We'll go over what we picked for last week and then make some super picks, some super thrown picks. Pick this Super Bowl. We'll also talk about the Jets news. We have some surgery and some people flipping out. We'll answer some tweets and then we'll talk about what's coming up for the Jet Kingdom podcast in terms of what you can expect in the next coming months since we're going into kind of an odd time of year for football. So we'll get to it. Alright, so... Are we gonna do a... I know you just said we're gonna do it later. Justin: Are we gonna do a post Super Bowl? We always do. We do, don't we? Okay. Yeah. Jake: Well, we could get to that right now since you just brought it up. Yeah, generally what we do, and I've looked over our schedule from before, we generally do a post Super Bowl. We then usually follow up with a post. a week or two after, talking about the Pro Bowl, but who cares about the Pro Bowl, and it already happened, so we can cover that now. And then the- I didn't watch it. No, me neither. All right, we'll get to that in a second. And then generally as things come out, it's the first day of, we'll look at free agency,
04 Jake: the date, so we'll pick the weeks that news is going to happen, and we'll try to go every two or three weeks to keep, you know... Again, but we're not going to get on here and just say, hey, nothing happened to football today. Great. See you tomorrow. I wouldn't mind doing that actually. Yeah, I don't like you enough to actually get on here and just bullshit with you. Alright. So let's get to it. I just want to start off by saying, in some ways that indie game seems like 10 years ago. Not only was it a really I call it the weekend of haves because to get to the game, to get the tickets, to fly out there, to stay in the hotel, the whole thing was awesome. The first party was so smooth and we had to find a Cincy and the Jet fans were there and it was awesome. We were right across from Lucas Oil Stadium. The stadium was beautiful. We walked around for hours around the stadium because there's really no tailgating so we just kind of drank beer and literally circled the stadium three to four times. What the hell is that? at. What do you mean? There's no tell what do you know? It's freezing and there's yeah, this is kind of really surrounded been freezing at the metal land is not tailgated there's not millions of rows of places to do it and So you basically go inside because it's warm inside and there's beer inside. So you just walk around Beautiful stadium so again I consider halves because then the first half of the game and the first half of my trip were awesome and then the second half Not only did we have the game itself, which we all know how that ended and painful, but the second half was better. But then getting home, flights were canceled, couldn't fly. We ended up having to fly to Atlanta to come back to New York. It was a nightmare. We basically left at like 10 in the morning and didn't get into one in the next morning. Brutal. But let's talk about the game a little bit. Because I can't do that. I guess. It's been another time. Yeah, I mean, I think if I can try to remember it, because I really have tried to block it out. I think my gut feel is that this was a game that we had to do extraordinary things to win and we didn't do enough extraordinary things. We had enough to stop them in the first half and we had enough to keep them. Thank you. kind of like at bay but the thing about Peyton Manning and this is why I think he's good and the cult is good um and the thing that we kind of have to go back to to say is that every game they wanted to win during the regular season they won that's something to say every game they wanted to win they actually won it They gave up on two of them, but the whole plan was working. And then the second half, and then you basically let the end of the second quarter, you let Peyton Manning come out and just start to shred the secondary. I'm going to go where you're not... He figured it out. Whatever it was written down, he figured out the Rex Ryan defense and he started to shred
00 Jake: it. So. I mean in my mind it was, there were points in which you know, you was winnable, obviously you're up by 11 points, but then you're playing the Colts and the Colts, you know, up by 11 is not insurmountable. You're playing them... Justin: That's nothing up against them. You gotta be up like 40. Jake: Yeah, 40 they might give up, but at 11 they're not gonna give up. At home the stadium was loud. Um, I don't know. Justin: compared to the crowd in Cincinnati. Because you were at both of those games. Jake: Yeah, it was very similar. I mean, the joke is that I actually flew into Cincy. So like, I was in Cincinnati twice in a month, which I- Justin: That's not that funny, actually. Yeah, well, it's a joke. That's pretty silly. Jake: I didn't say it was funny. But it's a similar people, right? It's a similar type of people. And for all you jet fans out there in Indianapolis, I'm hoping I don't piss you off, but- It's a similar type of people. They're laid back. They're a little bit more cool. They're not, you know, this stuff doesn't get them so riled up as New Yorkers and whatever. Justin: How is it like, because I have been to probably 100 football games, but I've never seen my team play in an away stadium. As a matter of fact, I've never even been to a football game at any other stadium. Jake: butt giant stadium. Wow. Yeah. How sad. How is that? Hey, for this year alone, I went to four away games. Oh, you're you're Justin: fucking insane. How how is it compared to like a Meadowlands Jake: crowd, a Jets crowd? It's hard to compare apples to apples because. In one side, you're sitting there listening to them, and the other side, you're yelling your head off. So it's kind of like you're not listening. I don't ever sit and just listen to the jet's cheer and be like, hmm, that seems like a level two versus the Indian. In one, you're being quiet. So then, of course, it sounds very loud. In the other one, you're screaming your head off. So it seems very loud. I thought everybody was just really nice. I will say they were probably nicer in the Indianapolis. And I don't know if that's because they just knew they were going to win the game. Justin: They knew they were going to win. They don't even, they're just like, hi, so nice to see you. Yeah. Jake: I mean, there were some guys giving flack or whatever. But again, I have that theory, and I know how to handle it, which is you just turn around and say, have a good game. But they were really sweet. I mean, the stadium itself was really nice. The thing that surprised me the most was how nice the stadium was. just really done up and really well thought out and kind of beautiful and it's kind of ugliness. It is kind of ugly but it's kind of beautiful. I was surprised at how much around the stadium is sort of not developed. It's just like the stadium is popped down in the middle of nowhere with kind of like nothing around it but like shacks and then just boom boom boom hotels. Justin: Why didn't they just do up some some good parking so that they could get a tailgate. Jake: Yeah, there's not. I mean, there's a couple places to park, but I mean, they're literally parking. They told us in the hotel, you better get your car settled because they'll try to park in your park.
01 Jake: It was odd. I mean, but as a game, I don't know. It's hard to compare. It's hard to compare the... I will say this year the game that strikes me as just the most crazy kind of insane Loudness was actually the Dolphins game I thought they were just like shaking the stadium and I don't know if it's the way the stadiums built in the oh But that game that Monday night game. I remember just shaking Justin: You know, I've seen the try so they were probably drunker than drunk Jake: the Toronto game I felt was pretty lame in terms of fans. Oh yeah, you don't even have real fans at that game. Um, you know, they were, and they quieted down. When they weren't winning, they were certainly quieted down and we were getting there. So tell me your thoughts. I mean, you watched it on TV. I did. Justin: I watched it on TV and I was watching... with a couple buddies and the first half looked great. You know, we're up 17-6 with a couple minutes left to go and then boom, boom, boom. It's 17-13, which I was still really happy about going into the half with a lead. And being more than a field goal, it felt good. There were a couple things that happened during the game that really really hurt You know the couple injuries that happened during the game Sean Green who would have thought Sean Green going out would have been such a big Deal, right if I would have said that to you ten weeks ago, you would have laughed at me But it was it was a huge deal Thomas Jones Just looked old in the second half for some reason that that whole running. We're gonna run over you to the right just didn't didn't seem to work anymore. A couple other observations, you know, obviously we lost so that was bad. But Sanchez, it was like a revelation. He literally grew up in the postseason this year. So a couple really good things to come out of the game were we have a quarterback. a running back and a head coach for the future. Yet we also have an offensive line that has started every game for the last two years together, three of which went to the pro ball. We have a defense that is ready and raring to be damn good for the next bunch of years with a couple little tinkers here and there which I'm sure we'll talk about. And, uh, so, I mean, hey, look. They didn't embarrass themselves. So that was good. They didn't embarrass themselves. They didn't go out there like the Arizona Cardinals the week before to New Orleans and lose like in a snooze fest. They did not embarrass themselves and they played their hearts out and congratulations to the Jets for making it. farther than anyone could have imagined that they would have made it with the rookie head coach quarterback and I think it's just great experience for the future I mean, it's not very often that you even get to play in that game let alone play in it as a rookie and
02 Justin: You know, it just sets the bar really high, but it also gives you that. All right, I've played in this game before I know what it's like I can do this because he played pretty well Sanchez. He played really well. I was very impressed. His one interception was very late in the game. It didn't matter. He was victimized by a drop or two and he made a couple really really good throws. So all in all, you know, obviously the only way it could have been better was with a win, but I think it was very encouraging for the future and great experience gained. Jake: by the entire team. Give me a fool in your play of the game. We've got to give a fool. It's been a while but that's kind of weird. Justin: Yeah, it's true. I'll start with the play and as you know I like to do plays when they lose. So the play of the game to me was the ADR touchdown pass to Braelyn Edwards. That was a hell of a throwback. I've been waiting for that all season, man. I mean, it's happened all that on the replay. He threw that flat footed. It was off of Play Fake. And he just stood there, threw it flat footed on a just perfect trajectory, and took a smack after he threw it. And as it's in the air, I'm yelling, if that's Debraylin, and don't drop it don't drop it he caught it and it was like wow that was awesome where was that so that was my my uh on the plus side play the game but the bad play um you know our it sort of came back to bite us our field goal kicker missed two field goals the first one i didn't mind um that he missed but the second one i actually thought was on the coach You don't try a 52-yard field goal On the first drive of the second half you you do not give Peyton Manning the ball on the 42 yard line Because he's gonna then score a touchdown so I Thought that they should have punted the ball there and tried to pin him down in the 10 and make him go 90 He might have gone 90 but make him do it don't let them go 50, which is what they allowed Peyton to do. And that's sort of not the way to beat that team. You have to make them work for those yards. You can't give them a short field. So that was a bad play. Bad miss by Feely, but 52 yards, you know, I think they should have punted the ball there. Jake: Yeah, it's interesting. I think that's that's a second-guess game. No, I was yelling it as he was kicking it. No, no, no, no I already missed one early. It was like, you know what? Punt it. Punt that ball. But 52 inside. Why not? It's right on the edge. It's right on the edge. Justin: Oh, I think you gotta be able to hit 52. You're not going up. You're not going up two scores there. You're still only going up seven at that point.
02 Justin: I don't... Jake: Yeah, I guess the way that defense was playing, but, you know... Well, I mean... Again, you make that, you go up another three, and then you say, oh, look, what we did, we, you know, we went up another three on them. I agree. I think... But I think it's one of the things that there is no win. If you get it, it's great because you got it, and good for going forward. If you didn't get it, you're stupid for trying to get it. I... You know, literally that's, you know... I think it's a one way. I'll go my play the game. I got one way. I didn't give you my fool Oh, who's your fool again? Well, I I say if it's not the same person, I don't know who it is Justin: It's not jfili. No, uh, it's any cornerback not named dorrell reavis. Oh, man Because they looked bad. They look beyond bad. First of all was shepherd hurt I mean, because I couldn't figure it out and I was home. He was benched. He was benched. What are you doing benching a guy in the AFC Championship game? Jake: Why do you do that? Justin: That makes no sense to me. Jake: I don't know, but that guy, you know, you're right. The secondary, we got problems. Justin: And I think, you know, Austin Collie, no, we don't have problems. We don't have problems. It was the number one pass defense in the league. We don't have problems. We have a problem and that is that other side and and it's ridiculous though that we had a guy who started all year every game when he wasn't injured and We had the number one pass defense and then all of a sudden you're gonna throw Dwight Lowry out there Jake: But that's it not they used and it they used a lot of different coverages and they put in they put in Lowry a lot of places and and Again, as you know, when you have the number one of anything, you have to go back and look at why you have the number one of anything. Clearly, the number one past defense is because we put one guy to shut down their best guy. Most teams we played didn't have a two and a three. In fact, I would say I'd have to go back in my head, but if... of all the teams we played, probably two of them had twos and threes. If a three, like the Patriots have a two, but when we played him, he didn't even play. Like, you take away number one guy, then you can put a bunch of guys on the other clubs, but no one that we played had really, besides the Colts, had really like, you know, a stable of really good. Justin: Saints? I mean... Jake: We shut Drew Brees down. Yeah, where's his two and three what name the top talking about the guy throws for three four hundred yards every game I understand that I understand that but where name his two receivers that are his number one and his number two receiver Do you need me to really name them? I mean Colston and who's number two? I don't even know exactly Justin: It doesn't matter. It's not the receivers it's the quarterback who throws for three hundred something Jake: yards right it's not we allowed drew breeza throw for three hundred something you are we didn't or did we it was a lot of yards and we still won the game well now i'm gonna check i'm gonna fact check you on that you do that i will tell you that you keep going and i'm gonna fact check the shit out of you your your your
00 Jake: game. Your fool's the game is anybody. Anybody in the secondary not named Dorell Rebus basically and by the way Drew Brees drew for 190 yards against him No, I said say I said the Colts game Oh you were saying San Diego, San Diego, that's a game. I was talking about. Yeah, okay. Drew Brees doesn't play for San Diego Can I go can I go? No, I'm talking about the game we played against the Chargers Play the game. I thought the sack I thought that was like the page one act for for the first one for you know Ten yards by Harris. I was like Okay, that that's I mean he had two sacks in the game I thought you know cuz the thing is can you get the break it to manning if you can get to manning you win a Game, so I'm seeing a sack the quarterback. I'm seeing a shut down the pass. They're going for field goals I'm like we got this. This is ours So I'll give that as my play of the game because that kind of set, I thought, set the tempo of the defense because they always say, oh, you can't sack them, you can't sack them, and they were getting to them. Full of the game, it's got to be feely. Just because you missed two in a game when you've been literally, the whole thing about us winning those other two games, you know, were the other kickers missing. Like we had a kicker who's the best kicker in the league almost or most pronounced. Missed three then we had a kicker in the other one missed two So like the whole thing that was holding us kind of keeping us going then came and bid us in the ass Yes, if you'd made those two would have changed the game completely would they know? But might it have changed a little bit maybe you know give not given the short yardage, right? There would have been some change to that game. I don't think that's what lost the game So I'm not gonna say he's the fool of the year But you know clearly you missed two field goals when Again indoor it's not out in it. It's not in the it's not in the Steelers You know Heinz field where it's won't win blowing you miss those not a good thing I'll give it to Jay feely and just and I'll and I'll be the net I'll be the best one turn around say you're a great player and but for that you got to get that you got to get it Alright, so that was the game Ahh. Painful. Painful. So how did you do in your picks? Did you pick that? Justin: No, I lost both games last week. Jake: Really? You picked Minnesota. I did. You just talked a little bit about that game. Justin: Yeah, let's talk about that because I was super pleased with the way that that game ended. How funny it is. I think a lot of Jets fans were just the way that that... game ended just with just debacle by first off probably one of the worst head coaches in the league uh Brad Childress he he just looked so clueless he was playing marty ball at the end of the game like oh let's try for a 50 yard field goal to win the game no dummy try for a 40 yard field goal 28 yard field goal. We're a touchdown. How about that? Like why would you try for a 50 yard field goal? Secondly, how sweet is it that farves last play on the field is a across the body pass as a pick in a
05 Jake: Huge huge spot. Oh wait NFC championship twice in a row awesome Yeah, phenomenal. I will admit something. I'm going to admit two things. One, you're gay. No, no, no. I'll admit two things. One is that I got back to the hotel, I went up into my hotel room, I started pounding beer, and I went to sleep. So what you're saying is you're the gay one. I did not well. If pounding beer and sleeping is gay, then I'm Sunshine's Alola Pops. I did not watch that game. It was on and then... It was a great game. I'm sure it was, but I was tired. Justin: I was upset, but I watched it and was into it. It was a good game. Jake: The other thing was... Since that happened since the Jets game. I have paid attention to NFL zero Like it took today. I have not gone on the boards I have not read the news, you know, it's in my reader and I just keep going red red I have not read a thing because let me tell you literally That's how much it affects me. It's like I can't it doesn't feel good. So I'm like, I'm not going to pay I'm kind of over it now. It's the Tuesday after the week and whatever so Justin: so i did not get him yeah i i've heard really did it's really good game that's the first thing um and the vikings let me tell you they have a problem with fumbling the ball because they i think they fumbled six times maybe i'm gonna go ahead and look at the box score for a second See how many fumbles they lost they fumbled six they lost three Adrian Peterson has a big problem He is a fumbler and that's not how that's an underestimation. I mean he fumbled the ball a lot They they just kept fumbling the ball in inside New Orleans 20 like hey, we're driving for a touchdown We're at the 10 Oh fumble Oh, we're at the goal line. Oh, well, like are you kidding me in an NFC Championship game? Forget it It was sort of destiny that that that New Orleans won that game because they were sort of gifted it And and Minnesota just they played to lose. It was it was pretty despicable at the end of the game if If I was a Minnesota fan, I'd be really upset. Because they really did the opposite of Herms play to win the game. They really did play to lose that game at the end. And the one thing that you can't do as a quarterback in that spot is exactly what Farve did. You don't do that. You throw the ball out of bounds. You run forward. You do it. anything but take a sack or throw a pick and he did the worst of the two. Jake: How funny is this as JET fans? We have to go back and go. Last year
00 Jake: playoffs didn't get there. Just you know didn't know what was happening to Favre. Our situation was you know kind of bleak. And a year later, Favre rips it up all season long, ends up embarrassing his team in the playoffs. Jets go, we lose the game, but we still lost a game that was whatever. And we end up with a really great coach, a really great. Moving forward, I'd rather be us than them. Yeah, I don't know what his deal is. Justin: Who knows what he's gonna do, right? He has no idea. And he's gonna leave them in limbo. And they're not gonna have a clue what to do. Because they're gonna be stuck with Tavares Jackson, and they don't want that. And then Adrian Peterson, I'm sorry, he's not I'm not as good as advertised. He's a fumbler. Well he's got a hell of a skill. But he's got a key barber and talked to him a bit. Because he's not going to make it too much longer in this league if he doesn't have far back there. He's going to fumble. That ain't going to work. Jake: So let's talk a little bit about Jets news and then we'll go on and go to the Super Bowl and pick that. So we have two of Jets news actually. Go for the first one and tell me what happened because I just saw the back of the post. Justin: Oh yeah, you're not, you're not. Following football so right yeah apparently Rex Ryan who I love and and and this really doesn't bother me at all He was fined not not by the league but by the team by the Jets $50,000 today today being Tuesday, the 2nd of February, for basically flipping the bird, putting up his middle finger at an MMA event last weekend. It was in, I think it was in Florida, and I believe what What was happening was he was getting sort of taunted by some Miami fans. And, you know, he had a, I think he had a ringside interview at the place. And he was quoted as saying, I just want to tell everybody in Miami, hey, we're coming to beat you twice next year. I guess he got ribbed a little bit and he just stuck up his middle finger to the crowd, which was all over the New York Post and the Daily News classic. classic back page stuff for Rex Ryan and to be honest it bothers me absolutely zero. It doesn't bother me at all. It's his personality, it's what he is and I don't Jake: care. Yeah I will say I don't mind him saying that I think flipping the bird is stupid it's just here's the thing where whereas jet fans were already considered classless will life scum? Well we are. Well, we is an interesting term.
02 Jake: But, you know, flipping the bird, I get you going up there and say, we're going to come and be choice. That's great. But flipping the bird, that's I don't know, that's childish. Whatever. The point is he's our coach and we love him until he starts losing. When he starts losing, we will just come. We will beat down the door to get him out of here. Justin: Well, you know what it is? He's he's. I think people want to now come play for us Oh, yeah, which is different than the past couple seasons with man genie I mean, I don't think that he could attract players to come play because it's like I don Don't want to go play for the Gestapo football, you know, I don't want to go play for for him He's, he's got these rules and he's gonna find me for taking a water bottle and this and that and and Rex, how can you not want a played for him as a player. and he came in and just overhauled the team in a year and that doesn't... You know, that doesn't happen that often, where you can take a team and just flip it on its head and install completely new defense that really carried the team the whole season and and then carry a rookie quarterback with you, who's only going to get better. Jake: Yeah, I think the thing that we have to look forward to, I mean there's a lot to look forward to, but the thing we have to sort of, now it's up to him. You almost get a gimme on the first year. He took his gimme and he went to the AFC Championship, right? You get your mulligan. He took his mulligan all the way to the AFC Championship. Now, just like any team, and I think this is where the Jets usually suffer, is now the expectations are there. right? No one is going to be saying that the Jets next year, no one's going to be saying all the Jets will miss the playoffs. No one's going to say that. They're going to say, they're going to put together the number one defense again. They're going to have a quarterback who's better than he was the year before, and they're going to get into the playoffs, and they might win the AFC East. I'm saying what they're going to say. We can make hard predictions in September. But the point is, the expectations now... are the hardest thing to do in football, I think, is to live to your expectations. Our expectation will go this year. So we live to it. And we excelled it. And then we went beyond it. Next year, he has got a job and a half for him because he's got to live above the expectation level. And I think that's very tough. It's easy being swagger, and we're the low dogs. Everybody wants to be the underdog. Thanks for watching! Absolutely, it's the best place to be. When you're the team that went to the AFC Championship, you're no longer the underdog. You're the good, you're the better team. And I think a lot of people are looking at us and will play the underdog card against us. Don't you think the Bills, Patriots and Dolphins will be sitting there going, you know, we didn't get far in the playoffs, we didn't get the playoffs, we gotta get them. And I think that's tougher to coach around, you know. I think there'll be a lot of hunger because we didn't obviously win the Super Bowl so they'll probably run that but it's gonna be an
03 Jake: interesting year and and I'm not saying the jury's out on him But I want to see success year in and year out because that's how you get to the Super Bowl You don't get there on on a fucking shooting star one year You get there by getting year in and year out and putting together a good team Consistently and being consistent about who you are as a team and then you get the Super Bowl and you win it. And the Steelers do that, the Colts do that, the Patriots do that, they're not flukes, they're consistently good teams. And I want him to put together a consistently good team because if we do that for a number of years, we will win a Super Bowl and you can take that to the bank. Alright, I will. Other news? Sanchez getting surgery on his knees? Yeah, a couple of uh... Justin: So what? Who cares? It's not a big deal. There's three words you don't necessarily want to hear when- Surgery, knee, quarterback? Uh, those are three. Dr. James Andrews, we're the three I was thinking of. Dr. James Andrews. You don't necessarily ever want to hear that, Uh, Mark Sanchez going to see Dr. James Andrews. Never a good thing. Now, f- On the bright side, it's Dr. James Andrews. So he always does a good, you know, he does everybody. So it doesn't appear to be a big deal. It also seems to be an injury that he played the full season with. It was the injury from college. So it is not even an injury that, you know, he incurred during this season. I guess it's just to, you know, clear. clean up some stuff and you know make it so he doesn't have to wear a knee brace during the season so I'm fine with it and get it over with now and he'll be fine by many camps whenever the hell that is and not a big deal I don't think. Totally agree. Yeah, modern medical science is pretty damn good so... Jake: So let's get to some... let's get to picking the Super Bowl. Let's talk about it. I want my third thing to admit this tonight. Well, my first thing was you're gay, second thing was... no no. Third thing is, I could give a shit. Really? It is hard for me to get excited about this game. Unlike most years, like, let's see, last year, last year actually was pretty tough too. Justin: It's tough because it's... It could have been us. Yeah, and I mean, this is... it's not as tough for me as it was in 99. That one was brutal. Because that one... We had like that we were gonna win that super rule And we knew it, but this one it's whatever we weren't supposed to be in that game. So It doesn't bother me and like I Jake: So so don't tell me you break it down a little bit. Tell me what you think's gonna happen. Give me a story And then we'll go from there. Justin: Okay, I think it's gonna be a high scoring game. Now, both of these defenses are better than people think they are, but they're not even close to as good as both of these offenses are. And I don't think either of these teams are gonna come out tight. So, Peyton's not gonna come out tight, and Breeze is not gonna come out tight,
00 Justin: and either or any of those teams. So they're gonna come out loose and... I think they'll be throwing the ball early and often. I think that at the end of the day, the Colts are a better team. They're just the best team in football. They have too many weapons on offense. They can do just about whatever they want whenever they want. Their quarterback is one of the only quarterbacks, if not the only quarterback in the league, that still actually, you know... calls every play and is like kind of a throwback. He's clearly the best quarterback in the league. Brady fans can argue but not, no. Manning's the best quarterback in the league, better than Breeze. And generally when you have the better quarterback in the game you win the game. That's a generalization, not always true. I think that what will happen though is that this sort of neutral field will favor the Colts because they are the better team and New Orleans didn't have to leave the comforts of their super-dome crazy zaniness down there and that favored them a hell of a lot. If they played Minnesota in Minnesota they don't win that game. If Indy plays us in New York, they probably still win that game. Yeah, I get you. They're just a better team and on a neutral field and if the weather is fine and not raining, I think Manny's going to cut them up. So, I think the final score will be a little closer than the game's actually going to be. because I think there might be a late score to pull it a little close, but I think it will be 38-31 Colts. Wow, it's going to get up there. Yeah, I think so. I can't see either of these defenses really coming out and stopping the other team, even though they're better than people think they are. Jake: They're not that. Good. So here's the thing that, again, and I'm kind of making this based on not having actually seen the game, but if you allow a quarterback, well, no, let's say Peyton Manning, here's the numbers. He has 46 attempts. Heat those for over 300 yards. Is he going to win the game? Yes, he is. And looking at Brett Favre, now Brett Favre through two interceptions, I just think that, again, you're right about the field thing, too. First of all, Peyton Manning's already won a Super Bowl at this field. So he should feel nothing but, hey, I'm coming back here to win another one. So the underlying stories to me are, I'll work for the AFC because it's our conference. It's also nice when you get beat by the Super Bowl champs, you feel like, well, we got beat by Super Bowl champs. So that's always nice. I also like the Colts. That was what's tough about being at the game, is that I like that team. Why do you like them? Because they were good team. They have a good coach. They've always had a good coach a nice guy the quarterback's a good guy
01 Jake: He's a nice like there's nothing they're not like a bunch of punks. They're not a bunch of talkers There's nothing to the end a win game. They don't like They're not in your face. They don't do all this crazy shit at for a team and they're also consistently just good They're a good team. They're not you know five by night. It's not a lot of underlying Right, but even the whole team. You don't hear about the drama. You don't hear about holdouts or whatever. Justin: You don't hear about it, but Marvin Harrison did have his... what'd he do? Shoot somebody? Like it just doesn't get mentioned. Jake: I just think that they're a good team and I like them. And that's not to say I don't like the Saints. I like the Stain story and the whole New Orleans thing, which I think is probably going to be gaggingly ridiculous watching it on Sunday, talking about that. You know, to me, I have to root for the Colts and in that way, I think they are the better team. I don't think you're going to get, you know, Brett Favre, if Brett Favre can throw off those kind of numbers, and again, he didn't really complete a lot, I think Peyton's going to kill you. And that was in your stadium where they were loud and whatever. They're not going to be loud down in Miami. They're never loud down in Miami. It's outdoors. Justin: You just said they were the loudest stadium that you've been to. Jake: That's true, and that Monday night was pretty loud. But again, it was hot. I don't contradict yourself on the same podcast. I was being quiet. You can do it in a cross podcast. Well, you know, again. So I just don't know. I don't think it's going to be as close, although Super Bowls have been pretty close the last couple years. I actually don't think it's going to be that good of a Super Bowl. I think when you look back on the years, like last year was pretty good, the Giants one was pretty good. There's been some really good Super Bowls. I think we're due for a letdown. I think we're due for a game that comes out, looks one way, and then just gets wiped. So I'm going to call it Cults 34, New Orleans 24. I'm going to call it a 10 point. We both like indie. They're 5 and 1 by 3.5 point. Justin: That's interesting. It opened at 3 and 1 by 3.5. Jake: Yeah, it's gone up, which is weird because Phreney's hurt. So like why would it go up with free knee hurt wouldn't it go down? Justin: So I don't know No, not necessarily it that doesn't necessarily mean anything It's really more about where people are betting to try and try and balance to entice them to go to one way or the other Jake: Yeah, so yeah, I think I think Colts win and and and I also and my wife is you know Who's a dolphin fan and whatever but wore the wore the love of the Jets for at least one day. She's you know, she's like, you know what? I just want Peyton to win. So we can because we can say all this week. It's top talk about Tom Brady because if Peyton has two and Tom Brady has three, then that's a watch. She's right. You know, you know, in some ways it's kind of true. Justin: She's pretty close on that one because, yeah, you know, Brady Brady was sort of carried to the first one. He didn't win that, their defense and just Belichick sort of won that one.
00 Justin: The other one's Brady won, but it's clear, this is Manning's, Manning is the constant that has been on this team for like 12 some odd years and has gone through like a complete It's going to be great. Like that whole team has had... Like, they never... Like, you know teams, they have a really good stretch and then they have that rebuilding dip and then they come back up. Jake: Saints, I mean not Saints, uh, Steelers. Perfect game though. They go up and down in these big waves. Justin: Yeah, that doesn't happen with Manning. He just wins 12 games every year. And it's him. He's the constant. There's no other constant. Jake: And they expect him to. And that's why I think I'm so impressed. And that's why I love the Jets to become a team that is expected to win and then does win and is expected to go to the playoffs and then does go in the playoffs. Justin: Because that's tough to do. Let me ask you this question. Speaking of sort of expecting to win. Do you think now that they're in the Super Bowl? that not having that pressure of going 19-0 is better? Jake: Um, no. Justin: Just before the playing of the game? No. Um, I think it's helping them because I've talked to a couple of Patriots fans who felt like as if that added little pressure of you know having Mercury Morris and Don Shula and and having that whole hoopla around it and talking about it during the Week leading up to it added a little bit of extra pressure to this situation Jake: I I tell you I tell you what I say because we'll never know what would have happened Well, that's the thing if they win the Super Bowl people are gonna say get could have won those last two games and the Super Bowl If they lose a suit, it's a no win situation for the Colts. Well, if they could win the Super Bowl, that's a win. Well, if you do 50-50, then yes, you want to win. If they lose a Super Bowl, everybody's going to scream on them and say, you should have played through, you would have been better, you would have been tighter, it's because you were whatever. If they win the Super Bowl, people are going to be like, listen, clearly, you beat the Jets, you beat the Saints. It's. You clearly could have beat the Ravens, you clearly could have beat the Only one team ever in the history of football gets to wear the the greatest team to ever play the game You win 19 games in a row You're the greatest team to play the game if we go to a 20 game season and you win whatever 24 games in a row You're the greatest team to ever play the game like that's something that's hard to back down from again I think they win it'll be like two two suitable rings for painting everybody's happy and that's the key to success
01 Jake: As a football fan, I still think it's crap and they shouldn't have done it You know would we have been as far if they'd done it who knows but I don't think they should do it. So let's um Let's take some tweets. You got some I got some tweets you got tweets Justin: Really I have it one but it was more just sort of we were chatting about you know, Ed Reed's stuff Okay. Well, I have I have to say I was very upset at carry roads. I don't think we should Jake: We have all off-seasoned to talk about what the Jets are going to do. We have one in the forums, which is great. That is a good one, yeah. Which gives me pause to talk about the new server. So we upgraded over the last couple weeks. I think I actually did it the morning of... I did. I did the morning of the AFC Championship. I literally was up so early. I sat there like three and four in the morning and just rebooted servers. So yeah, we upgrade. So it's much, pretty much faster and there's some new features coming along, but you know, always head to JetCatum.com. Anyway, so Marcus, who's a, I guess Marcus Netters posted something and he basically asked about, you know, the non-call on the flag on Sanchez. which I agree that if that were anybody else they would have called it um what's that what's the flag the flag call what flag call i'm sorry the non-call against sanchez getting slammed to the Justin: ground in the championship on on the play that freeney got hurt yeah yeah that was complete uh that's that's crap i mean guys brush up against tom brady and they get 15 it's because Sanchez isn't Jake: Isn't in the league for a couple years and is a man and doesn't turn around and cry for a flag. It's it's one of the most Inconsistent calls. I mean I This was the whole thing I don't like about and again This is the whole thing I have against instant replay if I have instant replay make it available on every play anywhere, anything that happens between the coin flip and the last second on that play, I should be able to say instant replay both for things and against things. This should have been one of those, I want that on the thing in slow motion next to overhead judge so he can look at it and go, oh yeah, that guy got slammed 15 yards. Slippery slope going down the- Justin: Those type of judgment call well cuz you could call a holding you can you can throw a red flag and call holding on almost Jake: You only get to away. You only get to that's the thing I think they should give them one more right one more I think you get to game now you get one more for the game and then you should be able to call anything Anything you only get three so if you want to use it on that play use it on that play Yeah, it's kind of crap that truth is the matter. Let's get to the truth. The truth is that was a anyway, so it's Justin: It's a it's a judgment call though, so it's there. I'll I'll end it on this it is it Kills me to watch like Tom Brady Like ask for a penalty flag get it and then root like he just did something right like what did you just do?
00 Jake: Right, but if you could call any play if you could replay any play Justin: I get your point. It just pains me to see Tom Brady cheer. Woo hoo! I just gained 15 yards. Right. Who didn't? Some guy just fell next to your foot. You douchebag. Totally agree. Jake: Anyway, Marcus asks, which is the last question, and I'll take the last question. He goes, has this been the worst year for kickers you've ever seen? In the playoffs it sure was. Justin: playoffs yes season I don't know, I'd have to look at numbers. Numbers don't lie. So I would look at numbers and just look at it and say, are there less or more touchbacks this year? That's a decent stat to look at. Are there, you know, kicks under 40? What was the percentage made? Were there more extra points missed this year than ever? I don't know. I don't have the stats in front of me. But those stats don't really lie. That's something that you can just look at numbers and tell. Jake: Yeah, I think there's been a couple years, in fact the Jay Faley year, a couple years ago where he was just missing them left and right. Oh, he missed for the Giants a couple of times. He lost them a game in Seattle or... It seems like they're so dramatic because it's one guy and it's one play. Justin: It's also been some of the bigger teams have had some really just... Mucked up like like the Cowboys for example are a huge national team and their kicker has just sucked all year They had a couple different ones the big gains that the Saints The Redskins right where the Redskins guy missed a 20-something yard field goal to lose them that game So it's been in like big spots against big games. Maybe that's the difference there I mean, I'll tell you one thing though like the best kicker in the game Nate Kating You'd be cut for my team. Jake: Oh yeah, well he's done himself no... They're not gonna cut him, which is ridiculous. That's tough, you know? Will she cut J. Feely? I don't know. Alright, so let's go one more last question from Omri Petaru. Alright, we love you Omri. Yeah, Omri Petaru, Omri... some day we'll figure it out. And, we'll play them out one day. Alright, really talking about, he wants to know about TJ. Should TJ stay? And what are your expectations for next year? Will playoff birth be good? Well, that's a couple questions, so let's take it. Compound question. TJ stay? No, he's not gonna stay. No, he's gone. Unless he signs for some outrageously one year, million bucks. Well, they have to cut him, don't they? Because they own some money? Justin: Yeah, we own it's one of those situations where if we don't cut him by x date Jake: We owe him three million dollars and there's no effing way we're giving he's gone. I'm okay with it Justin: We'll get someone else put in someone. No, we won't get anyone else. We're gonna have Sean green Jake: We're gonna have Leon Washington Justin: There's gonna be another guy and that other guy might not be you know The the starters gonna be Sean green and Leon's gonna be the number two and they'll be not gonna be Danny woodhead Jake: It's gonna be someone else, right And it might be in the draft and might be a free to see. Yeah, it'll be a draft. Justin: You can always draft somebody. There's always somebody out there. Jake: Also, what are your expectations for next season?
01 Jake: I think we kind of talked about that, which is that next season, you got to be thinking, it's sad. But it's very hard to go to the playoffs two years in a row. If you look at the stats on how many teams do it. It's very few teams that go two years in a row in the playoffs. We have a pretty tough division too. It is a very tough thing to go to two playoff games in a row. It is very, or two years in a row. It's very tough to go and win two years in a row. Like the numbers then go even smaller. Then if you do the numbers of to be in the AFC Championship two years in a row. Very tough. And then you go back in another one, you say, OK, so the numbers are against us. Do we have enough to get there? I would like to say we do, but we got a lot of help this year. I mean, let's call it what it is. We got a lot of help going into the playoffs this year. I think for next year, it'll be interesting. My expectation is really, I want to see us win a lot more games that we could win. in. I don't want to see any of these losing in the fourth quarter crap. I want to see a lot more domination and I want to be competitive for the AFC East. I want the AFC East to come down to that last game where it's not a wildcard berth. It's a you're in the playoffs but it's going to be is it your home game or not. That's what I'd like to see next year. Then if we get into the playoffs then we can call the playoffs. you know, we can talk to it then but I expect us to be in the playoffs and I expect us to be competitive against the AFCs. Justin: Yeah, it's a tough division. You know, the Pats are perennial. Always good. And the Dolphins are up and coming as well. The Bills, you don't need to worry about. But... them. But those are three pretty good teams in the division. It's pretty rough. But I expect good things next year. Again, we're in good shape. Rookie head coach, rookie quarterback, rookie running back, all three prove themselves. All three prove that they can play at a high level, or at least the two players prove that they could play at a high level. Jake: And I'm looking for good things next year. Absolutely. All right, well that wraps it up. If you want to follow us in any sort of the million ways you can, become a fan of us on Jet Kingdom on Facebook.
