03 Jake: This is episode 50 of the Jet Kingdom Podcast for Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009. 2-N-0, baby. Justin: Well, welcome to the JET Kingdom. As always on this side of the Digital Isle, it's Jake and joining me on this momentous occasion for the 50th episode on the 50th year of the New York Jets is Justin how you doing Justin I'm doing Jake: excellent how do you think I'm doing today it is a wonderful Tuesday and the Jets are looking just mighty fine there in the top 10 in the power rankings to know first place Justin: Looks good. I'm loving it. I I'm not ready to believe the hype that everybody is spilling upon us just this moment But I do like I do like what I see. I must say power a power rankings about as useful as tits in a bowl Power rankings who gives a crap doesn't help you win a game not a game not a game Do you win with the power ranking just let you know? Jake: We're popular Rex Ryan's a popular search out there on the interwebin We're we're popular Alrighty, so we're the kids let's talk a little about what we're gonna talk about today Justin: Just to throw out the agenda for all you listeners of your first time listener We're talking about the past game Jets versus Pats a lot to talk about break out some of the stuff that Break out the our play of the game and also talk about our night of the game. We each pick one of each for the game. Talk about what's happened in sort of the other kingdoms, maybe some of the bills and the dolphins they played on Monday night. Talk a little bit about that. Then we do a segment called Throne Picks. T-H-R-O-N-E. For those of you who can't spell, what was that? Well because it's not throne, it's T-H-R-O-W-N. So you get it, it's a pun on the throne that you sit on, right? Throne picks. Where we pick all the AFC East battles of the week. And then we'll of course talk about the upcoming Jets game against the Tennessee Titans. And that will be that. So let's get started. I mean, let's talk about the Patriots game How can we not? Give me a little bit of your thought or two on what you thought. Jake: Well, clearly I was a happy man, since I haven't seen us beat that team in that stadium for about 9 or 10 years now.
06 Jake: I don't think they've ever beaten Brady in that stadium. And I was up in Massachusetts, like the Patriots fan that I am. I was up in Massachusetts watching this game and loving every minute of it. Our defense again comes up huge, stops, one of the better offenses in the league. Before the season started most people would say they were probably the best offense in the league. Uh, we again came out and showed no mercy on the quarterback, although no sacks. Brady's a little too savvy to get sacked apparently. Um, but we did hurry the hell out of him and knock him down quite a few times, and that seems to be the recipe for beating Brady to get him on the ground. Um, and... And again, we shut down another top-name wide receiver to again like four catches for no yards and no touchdowns. Their best receiver was a little white guy, which I love named Edelman, running around. I happened to just... I love that. But again, defense comes up huge. The kid outplays Brady and the Jets are in Justin: first place. I love it. Yeah, this was a massive game. I mean, for those of you playing long at home, I come from a mixed family. So I have Patriot fans, brothers. I have Dolphin fan wife. I'm growing up, my daughter correct though, she's 100% pure jets. So I like, this game not only has all the things that bring, you know, Patriots jets, but I always bring my brother to the game. So there's a level of smack talk as the week goes on that I say. crescendos around you know well around one p.m. when the kickoff happens and you know to start off the game we were not doing too well right we were down by six and I and I you know part of me was thinking that the offense wasn't clicking you know I think they weren't running very well our first offensive play was for negative 16 wasn't it yes and that was funny what that play because he The play was blown because, uh, Feneca let the guy basically just drive him back like a truck and then that's how he got to Sanchez and then Feneca was the one that went and picked up the ball off the ground. Um, and then with the Leon fumble, which wasn't a fumble, um, at all, you know, I was thinking, geez, this is not, this isn't looking good. We're kind of, you know, we're going backwards there, at least putting up some points. But the second half, a different team came out, or at least on the offensive side. Sanchez was able to... Jake: Hey, let him do something. Justin: It's a little tight in the first half. Yeah, I think that's sort of the thing.
01 Justin: Well, there's two things I'm noticing about Sanchez, and I said this last week as well. One is, he does... You were right on that one. He plays tight at the start. Now, maybe it's the play calling and maybe we don't know because we don't know what's happening, but it looks like he's anxious, he's a little bit riled up and he kind of comes in his own. Hopefully, as he gets better as a quarterback and older and more mature, he will not start off so sort of... You know... I guess crazed or tight, I guess is the answer, or the word. And then, yeah, the second half was just, you know, became like the game that we all wanted to see for the longest time, which is where we just started to dominate. You know, try to put up points, didn't let them score. In fact, in the second half at all, at all, there are nine total points. We're the exact opposite. Jake: What would have happened last year? Yeah, I mean man GD got creamed at halftime Every time you go in a half and they'd come out and the other team would make three adjustments and the Jets wouldn't do anything and We'd get beat in the second half Justin: And it was just, it was the game that I wanted to see. It was, you know, that Khatria, that huge play. I mean, no big numbers. You look at the numbers and, you know, we in Washington and Thomas Jones average, right? 58 yards, 54 yards. You know, Sanchez, 14 for 22 with a touchdown. And they, no interceptions, it's huge. it out. You know, 163 yards, that's pedestrian. But they got it done. They basically rode the defense. This defense is now starting to become, and I'm not jumping on the greatest defense on the planet yet. Jake: You have to wait two more weeks, you know that. Justin: Yeah, two more weeks. But they really dominate. They throw a ton of different looks. and they are not afraid to leave basically Darryl Rivas and whoever's on the other side of the field, whatever millions of people they want to put over there on an island and just say, we're going to give that passer so little time to throw the ball, that doesn't matter who's out there. And that's a great thing. I mean, they did a nice thing on Monday Night Football. They showed how long it took for the Jets defense to pressure Brady, because again, never sacked him, But how long it took, and it was like... you know mostly they're saying if you have two and a half three seconds as a quarterback you can make the play they were giving like 1.8 seconds and So he just wasn't able to make the play Let's also talk about a couple of things one West Walker out is huge all that pressure He would have been able to make a few more downs and probably that kid Edelman played pretty well now Edelman sucked ass Why did he suck ass? He plays very well. Wes Walker is one of the best slot receivers in the game and he's out. Jake: I get it. I get it completely. He's probably the best but, you know, it's not like Edelman didn't have 100 yards.
06 Jake: I mean, the guy did have 98 yards. He had the stats that Walker would have had. Justin: Yeah, no he doesn't. No, no, no, no. You can't say he has it because Wes Walker is a better player. Okay, let's just say that as one. And two, Brady's not Brady. I don't care what anybody says. He is looking hesitant and he is throwing off the back of his foot. You know, I watch the rewatch the tape and... not doing much video not the coaches but you know i've been watched the video me three or four times you know this and he is he's always come down he's being pressured but he's not he you know everything in the and i guess the media every saying and i'm i'm gonna buy into it is that he's still protective of that need and your knee got hurt that much when people start rushing you you're gonna start to kind of like friend You know, he's... He's pulling back a little bit. So I don't think he's him. I think the best story, well, two couple other stories and we can kind of get to the best play of the game and the night's the game. But we outcoached Bill Belichick and that's huge. We had a game plan that was better than his and we beat him on the field with our players. I love that. And the other thing is, you know, this... This team is looking for real. It's not... For the second time in a row, maybe two of the top five receivers in the game looked like absolute doggdo. Including just absolutely shutting down Moss, including picking away from him. It was stunning. As a jet fan, I screamed as loud as I possibly could. That stadium was as loud as I have heard it since probably a playoff game. You know, the whole coach's call and all that and the, you know, come on out there and get, it worked. First second and third down. I mean, usually like third down, you know, people are like, but this was first down, everybody just got on their feet and they have this new thing where they played the siren noise. This, yeah, I heard that on TV. And I tell you what, it was awesome. on. It was awesome. It just, it was like when the defense came out, you heard the siren and you just knew it's time to absolutely get hysterically crazy. Jake: Well, they're following the fans are following the personality of the team, which is, uh, which is, you know, sort of what they should do. And if you look at it last year, they were very passive. The team was on defense, so you know you sit on your hands or whatever, but if you know you might have a sack or an interception on any play, you're gonna watch every play with that anticipation like, we're gonna do something right now. Justin: We're gonna do something right now, you know, and it's really fun to watch that way. And they were offsides. I mean, there were times when movement at the line, they had penalties against their offensive line.
00 Jake: It was the first time I ever seen Tom Brady have two back-to-back, whatchamacallit, play clock infractionates, or whatever it's called, delay of games. Two in a row. Two plays in a row. That was really crazy. Justin: That's the fans, and that's why in this sport, especially this sport, the fans can affect the game. Weather does affect the game, but the fans really can affect the game. There's no better example of that than Seattle, where that is such a loud stadium that it really does make it hard for the other team to play. We need to bring in this fans. I challenge every fan out there listening. I will be there at the next yes, well we'll talk about that in a second You know you won't be up in the page won't be at the Patriots game any yeah So truly truly awesome game can't can't say enough Fan the whole thing from start to finish great game loved every moment So now let's go let's give me your play of the game the game The play that you thought was the defining moment or the one you want to call out in the game Jake: There was a play, it kind of hardens back to your play of the game last week, where you sort of picked a non-play play of the game, and I'm going to do the same thing. It was in the fourth quarter at the end of the game and it was a third down, and it was third and, I don't know, third and long because they had run just up the middle twice just to try and burn the clock. and uh... they had sanchez kind of roll out and he had some pressure on him and he got away from the pressure and it looked like he wanted to just toss the ball down the field and he decided consciously to take the sack Hm, and burn some time. And he knew that his coach would want him not to throw the ball down the field and maybe throw an interception that could be returned or maybe give them better field position. No, no, no. We're up seven. Kid, get on the ground. We're going to punt the ball down the field. We're going to give them a long field and they're not going to go anywhere anyway. And that was the end of the game. He could have very easily winged the ball down the field and maybe they were so open, I don't know. But he, in my mind, very wisely, just took a sack at the end of the game just to burn some time. And knowing that that's what the plan was, the defense was going to win the game, not you making a throw up seven late in the fourth. Justin: That's not going to win you the game. So that was my play of the game. That's a good play. I would say there's probably three plays I could call out. I'm going to tell you the other two that I'm not calling out. Clearly the play at the end of the game where our buddy Dwight Lowry knocks the ball away. That's one. The second ball that was the second one that was probably the Dustin Keller touchdown
01 Justin: with the double feet. Boom. Touchdown. Awesome play. Okay. but I'm gonna go defense on this side and I'm gonna say the uh... you know the Darrell Reavis interception is just that's the type of stuff that you know he's not gonna get a lot of receptions because people aren't going to throw to him a lot and clearly less and less but you know his ability just to be there and he's gotta be a good six seven inches smaller than Randy Moss And to pull that off again from a combination that that two years ago was the best combination ever of receiver quarterback ever to play the game ever for the season stats wise Jake: And they weren't too shabby the week earlier Yeah, not too shabby week one against the Bills and if you noticed Andre Johnson the match up weren't too shabby in week two I think Johnson had over 100 and I want to look it up exactly so I don't make the error of not giving him his total statistics that he's warranted. I know that he had a whole lot of catches. He had 10 catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns in week two just to make up for doing absolutely nothing in week one. And that's what we're going to do. Chob by the way threw for .357 and four touches no interceptions against the Tennessee Titans who are coming to town week three. So that just shows you we did shut down an offense. I don't think anyone will go out there and tell you that the Tennessee defense is garbage. That's not a bad defensive team right there that used to put up some points against. and uh... again the week prior uh... they didn't do squat against us uh... let alone they didn't put up a touchdown let alone thirty four points and two weeks looking pretty good Justin: you know absolutely everything's sort of clicking and it's it's you'd almost don't want to get you know don't get too into it cuz your jet pan you know what it is to That's it. be eight and three and then to not get into playoffs. So but I'll go right out there and sort of flip it right with my I'm gonna make Doral Rivas my player of the week, my night of the week, clearly for his his production. Again, watching you said it best when you see him one week and he's on a player and that player barely gets the ball barely gets to do anything and then next week that player then explodes you like The reason that is is because that guy is shutting him down. Darryl Rivas could be the best player on the team. I mean, I would say Leon Washington, Darryl Rivas, are Chris Jenkins. Those three players, tough one to say. Tough one to say which one is like the most. Some good talent on this team. It is. And it is. And I think we forgot that. There's something about the losing of Favre. We forgot that this team was 9 and 7 last year. and, you know... had a chance to do some damage and we didn't uh... because of the far situation him basically throw in I think it was some outrageous ratio of like three touch it touched down eleven
02 Justin: interceptions in the last four games we lost three of them uh... anyway so Drell Reeves who's your night of the game Jake: you know I I was gonna just pick Dora where you can sit again, but I picked him I picked him the week before so I didn't want to do that and I actually was struggling a little bit for what to do and I don't want to just give it to Sanchez because I don't think he necessarily won the game Although he played really well in his first home start. I'm gonna go out there and just give it to the kicker Give it to Jay Fee the the in- R-, the last year and and you know when you win by seven and you score 16 points That means your kicker made some field goals So I'm just gonna go ahead and you know I want I would say feely on behalf of the entire special teams because they played really well the whole unit as a whole Play really really well coverage wise return wise everything they played really well So Jay feely on behalf of the special teams Justin: Nice. I like it. I like it a lot. And it's interesting to think back at him. This was a guy on the Giants team. Remember that? He was him against Seattle. And the Giants like like three years ago. That was heavy. Yeah, that he missed like three in a row. Three. I forgot that he lost or won the game. But it was like a big deal. He was. you know, thrown to the wind and here he is back in the middle and doing well. So then Parcells caught him last year. Jake: Parcells just caught the guy for no reason. He was good with Miami. Just caught him. Justin: Speaking of Miami, let's talk about two of the other just talk about two of the other games that that, you know, that sort of the other kingdom segment. Talk about what happened at. The bills Jake: By the way, I'll just throw this out there before we before we go too far As we talk about the other kingdoms and as we segue into thrown pics I haven't missed a thrown pic yet. I just wanted to throw that out there I am six, you know when it comes to picking these other kingdoms Justin: That's not bad. Well, you're missing up the segments, but yeah, that's not bad. All right. Well, let's keep going last night I just want to throw that out there Last week the buccaneers who are looking like one of the worst teams of football Took on the Buffalo Bills who are looking like a very up-and-down team, which is basically every season of theirs And beat them. I didn't actually get to watch any of the game I have no insight into it other than I heard Trent Edwards look good
11 Jake: uh... this yeah i mean i'm looking at the Um, and I saw you had a drop actually on the highlight, a big drop. Um, but this game kinda came out the way I thought it would. Buffalo coming off of the big letdown. Uh, at home opener, that's a hard game to win. The Buffalo home opener is really hard to win. there like Way into football up in Buffalo. It's like all they have so when when it rolls around to like mid-October November when their seasons over You know all they have to do is look forward to the next September else So they yeah They played how I thought they would the fans sort of carried and they were winning 17 nothing real quick in the first quarter so they This was kind of an easy game for them. And like you said, Tampa is looking like one of the worst teams in all of football. Justin: Tampa Bay is not looking well, which is interesting because we are going to be playing Tampa Bay. Are we playing Tampa Bay? We play the Bucks? I don't know if we play Tampa. Oh, no, I don't think we do. Sorry, I'm messing up. I'm flipping teams here. But this week... Is that the team that we don't play? Maybe it is. This week the Bills host, so they stay at home, and they host a team that's on fire right now. We're basically a player that's on fire in Drew Brees and the Norlin Saints. You know, give me a little breakdown. What do you think is going to happen there? Jake: This one's gonna go a little different for Buffalo, cause... If you're gonna go out there and try and go no huddle against New Orleans, well, they're gonna just strike right back. And they're like averaging what, like 40 some odd points a game right now? I think Drew Brees has 96 points or something, yeah. Yeah, like, Drew Brees alone, he has 9 touchdowns. I mean, that's really sick. To think about this offense... They have Richie Bush and he barely like taught I feel like he's like a like a decoy almost like he's out there To take attention away from other things and it'll be interesting. I'm gonna I'm gonna want to watch This bills New Orleans game. I don't think I'll have the chance You know knowing that we play New Orleans the next week, but I think New Orleans take care of the bills without issue they'll probably put up thirty some odd points to like thirty seven thirty seven twenty seven Justin: now well that's uh... that's that's good actually i agree i think you know the saints are for real on offense defense you know it's hard to tell with an offense is that powerful when the defense is doing Thanks for watching. his job or just hanging out waiting for the offense to get back on.
04 Justin: I definitely see this as a same twin. I call it 37-28 is what I wrote down. No, that's fine. No, sorry, 38-28. So 10 points. That's kind of interesting. Yeah. Um... and then uh... what's a little bit more happened last week so or yesterday miami uh... had the colts come to town and i did what the entire game i i i i watched uh... to i had the buddy over and then with the wife and uh... i basically is couple things that you know i gotta say about this team or about this game that just struck me and one which I tweeted last night which was you know Tom Jackson on the countdown goes you know Chad Pennington does a lot of things well one of them is not to stretch the field I was like oh jeez I mean pardon me wants to kick Bennington because he's not on my team but pardon me it still has a little bit you know of love for the guy but um And the other thing was they kept saying it during the Wildcat, you know, the Wildcat's an ability to really, you know, it gives you really the ability to put the best players, your best players on the field. And they also had Chad on the sidelines during all the Wildcat plays. So I was like, really? I mean, is that the best? If you're, if you're best players are on the field during a Wildcat and your quarterback is sitting on the sidelines. And something's wrong with the wildcat because it, you know, well, you know, was. Jake: Yeah, as much as you're ranting and raving, the the dolphin should have won that game. Yes, last night they dominated the game. They had the ball. If you look at the stats and all you saw were the stats, you would look at it and you say. Well, holy shit, the Dolphins had the ball for 45 minutes. They must have won the game. I mean, they ran for over 200 yards. They had the ball for 45 minutes. I mean, the fact of the matter was the Wildcat was working. Every time they ran it, they gained at least 5-10 yards. I mean, they averaged like 10 yards on the Wildcat last night. But how bad are the Colts? I get what you're saying. Justin: How bad are the Colts defense? The Colts defense is so bad that you see the quarterback... leave the field, right? The quarterback leaves the field, he's standing on the side, you then have the running back going to take the direct snap. That running back is not going to throw that ball, or if he is, his percentage chance of making it happen is very small. You see that quarterback that running back takes- Jake: Look, the Colts couldn't stop it last night. Justin: Well, because the Colts defense- They couldn't stop it. But here's the deal. I honestly think that if the Colts defense was- 3% better that score would have been like 40 to 10 because the difference was when the non-wildcat team got on the field with the real quarterback He just threw the ball. He said oh you're gonna give put me on the field every time they got on this court I think they had one three. Oh, he killed them I mean they never would you know why they never would have won because if they'd left four seconds left in the end of That game he still would have won Jake: If he ever got on the field, I mean yeah manning manning was he was amazing
00 Jake: I mean they barely had the ball right they had the ball under for less than a quarter of the game and They still put up 27 points and the guy still throws for 300 yards and two touchdowns I mean he's really impressive, but you know the Dolphins What they tried to do was control the the game and the clock and they did and they almost pulled it off If Ted Ginn could catch the ball They may have had a chance at winning that game Fucking stone hands. I mean Chad made a pretty good throw in the end zone at the end of that game Justin: But here's my other problem with the dolphins. And again, we don't have to have problems with the dolphins. I like when they lose. I have a problem with the dolphins and sort of what's going on down there. And to all you dolphin fans, sorry. And again, I'm kind of doing this as a pseudo fan through my wife and my friend. Here's my problem with the dolphins. Last year, I was a dolphin. You had no talent. OK, you've got Ronnie Brown, who's average. You've got Ricky Williams, who's average. Chad, average. You're wide receivers, nonexistent. You have average talent, right? OK, so you use a lot of tricks. You tricks, and you do the Wildcat, and you do this, and you end up winning some games. And you win more than you think you're going to win, and you shock the NFL. And then in the dz. in the uh and you got an easy schedule then you go to the playoffs and you get embarrassed because basically you don't have any weapons and a real good defense is gonna pick you apart I'm fine great season you call it up a great season they did nothing in the offseason to help out that offense not a thing nothing go get a fucking wide receiver go pick up someone who can go they have less receivers than the jets do and we Jake: lost a receiver and didn't gain one Justin: I mean their number one receiver is Ted Jin Jr. who was picked up as a return person in the first round after they passed by Brady Quinn. Are you kidding me? The guy's not good. He wouldn't make most rosters. No he just can't catch. He has no hands. Well, you know what? That usually is what a receiver needs to do. Jake: He's super fast. He just has no hands. Justin: So what's the point? Why didn't in the off season they go pick up some weapons? I don't know. Why didn't the Jets? The Jets didn't pick up a receiver. The Jets did pick up weapons. Jake: Well, they couldn't get a receiver. Justin: And there's not like receivers growing on trees. But we went and got a number one draft pick. uh, why, um... uh quarterback we then went and picked up a high rated running back and then we also picked up in free agency we picked up huge players like Bart Scott and and freaking and Leonard and what did Jake: my i guess i don't really care this is a jet podcast but uh Well, they're a huge rival of ours, you know? Good for them. Fuck them. I'm glad they didn't do anything. Justin: It just almost irks me that they're just sort of stupid.
01 Justin: And you know what? Why is it irk you? You should be happy about that. I don't know. As a football fan, it irks me. The chances of them going 0 and 5, I think, is really big. This week they go and they take on, so after this loss on Monday night, then they got to cross country and take on San Diego Chargers. Jake: Not easy. Not easy. Short week to begin with and you got to go all the way across the country. Tough, tough loss. Not easy at all. Plus, you're going to play a team who just came off, like you said. Miami's coming off a tough loss and the team you're going to go play is coming off of a tough loss in San Diego and they You know historically I can recall Chad playing very well against San Diego. I believe he beat them in the playoffs He's beaten them in the regular season But that was with the Jets not with Miami and I do not see Miami being able to even play with San Diego. I think San Diego has the linebackers to shut the Wildcat down. They can run side to side and kind of shut that whole thing down. And I think that they have just way too much firepower on offense for Miami. I mean you saw last night Miami's defense. They kind of suck. I mean, I know you saw a paint manning, but... It's not the same Colts team, they don't have all the weapons that they used to have. You just picked them apart like they were nothing. They never had the same. Like nothing, you just picked them apart. So I like the Chargers to beat them pretty handily. I don't see the Dolphins scoring more than 10 points. I'll go with a 20. 7-10 victory for the Chargers. Justin: I swear you're steer- I can't be. It's a digital aisle, it's not a real aisle. I know, but you're almost looking at my crib sheet here. I can't see it. Yeah, I don't see this as a good game. It's gonna be lost to the Dolphins. The Wildcats not gonna work for a team that knows how to defend against it. Which is if you know that running backs gonna get the ball bring in your fucking safeties and cover him Don't sit don't sit up there like he's gonna throw the ball cuz he's not gonna throw the ball You need those two ball the chances of actually doing it. Well once out of every ten times anyway dolphins ten San Diego 40 Wow, yeah, and then we got the new England Patriots hosting my falcons they hope yet your Super Bowl pick Jake: Which are both 2 and 2, 2 and 0 by the way. Justin: My two Super Bowl picks, both 2 and 0 teams. What were my, I think I'm 1 and 1 because I picked the Steelers Eagles. Alright. Not looking good. Anyway, what do you think? Give me your thoughts on your game. This is a tough game for Atlanta because they're my Falcons. Jake: this is going to be tough for us we're going up there against your patriot this time i know this is a tough game uh this is a tough tough tough game uh i think you know the falcons are i think they're really good you know i
04 Jake: picked them to go to the super bowl and i think that they've come out and shown that their their whole thing last year was no fluke they can play on both sides of the ball um but new england and bella check and brady off a loss at home I don't know, I wish I could just pump a little stat thing into a stat engine and figure that out. I bet they don't lose very often coming off a loss at home. Justin: It's a very small number. I'm sure it's going to be very small. Jake: I can't imagine the two of those guys losing too many at home off a loss to the Jets especially. They're going to be fucking... pissed. So I think it's gonna be one of the best games of the week. It's gonna be a close game because Atlanta is a really good team and New England's not as good as they probably will eventually be at the end of the year. So I'll go with a close close close game. There's gonna be some scoring. Justin: 24-23 Patriots. Yeah, I, uh... Yeah, I do not pick against the Patriots coming off that loss at home. Forget it. Just not gonna do it. you just have to go with the stats for the world, right? You have to go, I think the Falcons have a good pass rush, and they're gonna bring it with John Abraham if he's healthy, Big John, as we say, as he plays in the Jets. I do believe there'll be some points scored. I think the Patriots will be able to put up points this time. time. But I just can't see that. I mean, you know, deep, deep heart. I want the Falcons to win. I don't see it happening. I see it like a 33 20 or whatever. I down here at 33 27 New England wins. It's just it's too much to say that they're, you know, not going to make it and not going to kind of have a bounce back again. Love them to lose. Don't think it's going to happen. Um... So then we have the game of the week. God, it's a long podcast. We're up in 37 minutes. And we got the game of the week, the 0 and 2 Titans. I know, I don't like that. I hate it. 10 and 0 last year that we beat, when they were 10 and 0 at home we beat them. I know. Given their first loss are now 0 and 2 and basically looking at this is maybe one, this is their one or two games out of the night. Jake: No, this is it. This is do or die right here for them. because they're in a division with the Colts. I mean, this is kind of desperation time here for these guys. 0-3 teams don't make the playoffs all that often. So I hate the fact that they lost this week to Houston.
02 Jake: I hate that. I really wish that they would have been 1-1 coming into this game. uh... just for the mere fact that i think that they're too good of a team to be on three but unfortunately they're playing the jets and i can't pick the jets to lose especially since uh... we're looking so great right here and and carry colin's i think of it as like a statue. I don't think of him as a guy who's going to be able to not get sacked like Brady. You know Brady was able to... he... he... He shifts, he moves, he slides, he's got this weird sense that he just knows when to get rid of the ball. Uh, Kerry Collins is more of a statue to me and more of a guy that we could, if we get after him, like we've been doing, um, really cause him some damage and some havoc. So I'm gonna pick the jets, I'm gonna be there. I'm gonna be wearing my Titans jersey. That's right is my new York Titans Jersey. It's a throwback game Justin: This is one of the three throwback games. We have I think it's this one Falcons and Miami This one this one Miami at home this one home, Miami home one other game, but okay, go ahead I'll be wearing my Titans jersey against the Titans and Jake: It'll be an interesting one for the announcers, and I'm gonna go ahead and pick the Jets in a low scoring Tough battle I'll go ahead and say that the Jets are gonna score 17 points and I'll give Tennessee 13 Justin: Yeah, this is I don't you I too don't like an O and two team. I don't like a desperate team I don't like a team that we beat and let's be honest embarrassed last year in their house after going 10 This is also team that was 13 and 3 last year and then didn't win a game in the playoffs If I remember correctly, I think they lost. Yep, that's correct You know, but they also are a team that has weapons I mean Kerry Collins as much as you think he's a statue he didn't get sacked a lot last year at all So he has the ability to move But if you looked at, you know, sort of younger versions and then Brady's and whatever and Brady's one of the best of that, you know, and we got there and we didn't sack him. I don't think it's going to be a sack fest, but I think it's going to be the same thing. There's going to be a lot of pressure. I also think though we're going to start to see a little bit people watching the tape, right? Part of the thing that's happening here is no one knows what sexy Rexie's doing. uh... you know with the defense cuz we've been ever seen it yes they have been last year no no no different personnel different packages it's a different thing now you've got new got real numbers you got to mean meaning real players you can say okay reviews can be here roads can be here drinking to be here so i think that people are starting to figure out our defense i don't see us giving up you know three field goals every game We're averaging 8 points a game.
02 Justin: I think they'll be able to score this year or this game. I don't think it'll be a lot. And I don't think we're going to be able to score a lot. They had a very good defense last year. They had some good linebackers. They lost their big man in the middle. I think we'll be able to run on them a little bit more. But we've got to watch out for Chris Johnson. He is very, very, very explosive. I mean, he averaged...he's averaging 8.2 yards per carry. Jake: We had a sick game this week. Justin: Yeah, well that's a lot. I mean, yeah. As good of a game as he had, they still lost. True, true. So I think it's close. You're right. I think we win this game. I'm going to call it 22-17 New York Jets win. We will be there till 1 o'clock start, another historical moment, because the Jets and Giants are playing at the same time because of young Kipoor. So that's kind of interesting for you. you. and Boston's taking on the Yankees at the same time. Ha, see, I knew that one. And big. I'll be at the game the day before. OK, well, there you go. Now we got a question. Now we had a question from the Twitterverse last week. And this week we have one on the message board. Thank you very much. Actually, Matt, which is actually a long time, Guy's been in, he's been on the boards before. so Love that. I have posts going back all the way from I think 2007 on him. Welcome. Thanks Matt. Love the question. And the question is which winning streak surprised and or impressed you more? 2008, three wins in a row against the Bills. Titans, Pats. 2009, back to back. Titans, pats. I think he's saying, you know, of all the sort of streaks that we're putting together, winning against the Bills, winning against Titans, winning against the Pats, because remember we won against the Pats last time we played them, and then this time, you know, what's most impressive? What do you think? Give me a thought. Jake: I think... Last year's winning streak of those those three games in a row To me was more surprising. I didn't think that we would Be able to win, you know Patriots Titans back-to-back Especially Titans were like 9 in it or 9 10 and 0 at that point This year wasn't as surprising to me, because I think I thought we were going to win both of these games. Or at least during the podcast I said they would win them both. Although this week was surprising, I did think they'd win week one. I'm happy about this week's, or this year's, because it's this year's. And there's just more to be happy about, because it's right here in the now. and this team looks way better than the Jets did even after these two games. They look better now than they did last year after 11 games when they were 8 and 3 and I thought they looked for real. They look even realer right now even after only two games.
03 Jake: I hope I don't have to regret that statement. Justin: later on in the year. Yeah, I'm gonna say I am much more impressed with, I'm much more surprised about this week, this year, which I think is the opposite of what you just said. Last year, again, we had seen a body of work from the Jets at that point. We had seen them play. We'd seen what Favre could do at that point, and he was, you know, They were playing good ball. Sorry kids, they were playing good ball. This year, I was, well we picked, I think if we want to be honest, we picked them to win the opener against the Texans. They did. We picked them to lose against the Patriots, which they did not. And I think we both picked them to lose against the Titans as well. I had us beating the Titans. You had us losing against the Titans. So I picked them to lose against the Titans. And we'll see. again I think You know, I'll be putting I'll be I'll be booking my tickets to Miami not for the Miami Dolphins game, which I am going to but for the You know the Miami Dolphin the Dolphin Stadium game, which is a symbol this year Not landshark Stadium, you know interesting enough inside sources. Tell me that it is Landshark Stadium for this year and this year only. It's a one year deal. But during the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl, because they're being played the same place this year, Pro Bowls before the Super Bowl. Dolphin Stadium. Which is a great... Yeah, it's going to be Dolphin Stadium. Jake: Yep, they announced that last night. That's not really inside sources. Okay, well, inside sources told me before they announced it last night. You know what's actually funny before you continue? I had a Landshark last night. Justin: I heard it tastes like shark piss. Jake: It is a American lager, like a Budweiser type of deal. Sort of. It was a little better than Budweiser, I would say. More resembled like a Corona-ish type of deal. I've heard of it. And someone... brought them over to watch last night's game and then they were saying Landshark Stadium and I'm looking at the spear in my hand and I'm saying are these the same thing? Because I've never heard of these. It was just a funny coincidence. That is funny. Yeah. Not funny. Don't endorse Landshark. Justin: Okay, no land shark we we are not sponsored by land shark, but if land shark wants to sponsor us We'll take it
00 Justin: All right. So let's just do some cleanup and please come fall. You can follow us on Twitter Twitter comm last jet Kingdom there might be some Fun throughout the week and the game Um, we also there's a poll from last week, which you can still vote in, which is how many sacks does Vernon Gholston get this season? Uh, want to go check out, which is which two and O team will not make the playoffs. I actually liked this poll.
