13 Jake: This is the 49th episode of the Jet Kingdom podcast for Thursday, September 17th, 2009. Get loud! Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast as always this side of the digital aisle. It is Jake and joining me today is a special star in the 49th episode of the Jet Kingdom podcast. The one and only, the man, the myth, the legend. Justin: Hey Justin, how you doing? I'm doing wonderful. It is a very pleasant side of the Digital Isle this week. What a wonderful week one it was. I love again reiterate that this is one of my favorite times of the year. Just because of the baseball season winding down and the football season really gearing up and getting ready to go. and the Jets made me a happy man on Sunday because they looked awesome Jake: Yeah, let's get let's get right to it. I mean so Let's talk about the game that was I mean the Jets and their rookie head coach rookie quarterback Head down to Texans a little bit on the Texans You know the Texans have traditionally been a pretty bad team their franchise, you know a new team as of I think like eight years ago, I'm just throwing it out there. But last year they had the number three offense. And I think we kind of forget that. They had the number three offense in terms of production. So you know, there was a chance that this could become a huge letdown and lo and behold the Jets go in there and basically play out of their mind. Flawless. Justin: Literally flawless. except for, you know, the one turnover, they literally played flawlessly. And you know it is worth mentioning that Houston was one of those kind of hot teams in the preseason, or not hot, but like you know that sexy team to pick as the you know the sleeper, the team that's gonna be good this year because they finished off last season with like four straight wins and you know, the big offense with Steve Slayton and Matt Schaub and of course Andre Johnson who kind of disappeared. We'll get into that I guess as we kind of, you know, pick the game apart, but Rebus did a great job on him. You know, we went down there and pretty much handed them an ass whooping. Um, our defense was stellar. Uh, um, meaning they gave up no yards. I don't even recall the, the Texans getting anywhere close to like field goal range.
04 Justin: Uh, really they, they, they were, they were dominated at the line of scrimmage by both sides of our lines. And it was great to see that we're going to be nasty. We're gonna hit you hard, we're gonna beat the shit out of your quarterback, and by the way we're gonna shut down your wide receiving core because we're gonna get to your quarterback so fast from all over the place, and we have pretty much the best cornerback in the league sitting over there on an island one on one locking your guy down. in Dorell Rebus did a serious job on one of the best receivers in the league. Jake: I mean yeah there's certainly there's sort of two sides of this game and I think you know we all had questions and I still have questions I'm not gonna you know hand the Super Bowl to Rex Ryan and his defense but I mean there is no question that we are going to be absolutely 100% aggressive on every play. There is no question. There is no question that while we might give up big plays, you know, by being so aggressive, by pushing so many, by rushing so many, by a more experienced quarterback, we were talking about Matt Shaw up here. We're not talking Peyton Manning. Justin: No, we're not talking Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, but he is, when healthy, regarded as a very good quarterback he does have really good numbers when he plays he gets in top ten he ain't top ten you know what you said it number three offense in the whole league it doesn't matter one guy Matt Shaw it matters offense as a team number three and we shut them down Really? Jake: When I agree, but their number their offensive their offensive numbers came from the person who I think was more impressive that we shut down Which is slate and they're running back who had nine attempts for 17 yards Oh, they were that that was nine attempts for seven. They were going nowhere under two yards per carry He they had a total rushing of 38 yards anytime you can hold any team rushing for 38 yards you're gonna win that game I mean and unless they've got no running backs and they're just throwing bombs all day but you're gonna win that game that is just that's the most impressive piece of me you really Justin: think so I think I think shutting down you know I really think shutting down Andre Johnson is really just as impressive. Jake: You know, Steve Slayton. I'm not as impressed because that's a one-on-one. That's you're putting one of the best corners in the league, let's call it Drell Rivas, on probably one of the best receivers and that battle was won basically by the defensive line pressuring shots so much you had no time to give it. I like the Slayton shutdown because it took more than just one player. I mean, Rivas really was on that guy and he did it well and he's as good as we all think he is. He is who we think he is. But shutting down Slayton is more.
02 Jake: It's the corners coming in. It's the safeties. It's the defensive line. It's the linebackers. It's everybody playing together. there. i think that shows a little bit more than just shutting out one receiver there so there are any and what they would be right side and that they want they wanted to run the ball and uh... uh... and they they were able to put again i think so on the on the defense aside i think we learned rex gonna be aggressive they're gonna pat they're gonna you're gonna blitz they're gonna bring three bring five in the site disguise what they're bringing all the time time. And you got a player in Bart Scott who wants to eat your lunch. Justin: We have a couple of those players on offense. We have a couple of these guys who've kind of grown into this. I mean, if Harris played just as good as Bart Scott, if not better, he was everywhere. Chris Jenkins. was a monster again. Oh yeah. Just like he was in the beginning of last year. I mean, do you see some of those plays where he was starting like five yards off the line of scrimmage and just running like full speed? Like he wasn't starting down, he was starting like almost as a linebacker and just... Bull rushing it was really cool like like they're moving them around. It's very very cool Jake: My absolute favorite quote that came out of it was Chris Jenkins is using their offensive line as weapons And and this image of like Chris Jenkins just like swinging offensive linemen into other people he does he's he's absolutely I mean, he's as close to unstoppable as you're going to get. He did amazingly. Again, the defense, I just think they're going to be very aggressive. I think it's a good thing to see. And the things even turned out our way. I mean, that interception was one of those interceptions that could go either way. It could totally just land on the ground and be nothing, an incomplete pass. Yes. or it could pop up into the air and DeVito finds it and just runs with it. And oh my god, it's an interception. And so those types of things are a little bit of the luck. But I like it. I really like the defense. I'm excited. This is the year, I think, I'm excited about the offense, but I'm really excited. If you're saying to me, who do you want to see on the field at any point? I'm like, I want to see the defense on the field. Because I feel like the defense could shut down the game and I feel like the defense could also take you to the house at any moment. it. I think any one of those guys could do it and I'm so excited. But this was also more than the defense because I think we knew. I think we looked at the paper, we looked on, did all our fantasy football bullshit and we lined up all the players. We said this group of people, if they can play together, if they're coordinated well, we'll be good. We've got real serious talent. You're talking about the defense or the offense? We're kind of the weakest in the defense. Thank you. Justin: Oh, well, I mean, we said it right here on this very very talented started that they're going I
01 Justin: said they're going to be the best defense in the league by week four and and beyond so Jake: You keep you keep saying it and then it might come true and I'll be happy to say it But again, it was all of course Justin: We had a team genius or whatever and a bunch of free agents that came over that kind of knew the system and right core pieces that were already here, but yes, you're right. We sort of knew, but we wanted to see it. And this upcoming week will obviously be the real test against real offense, or a more legitimate team than Houston, but still, I think they really came out there and dominated. It was awesome. Jake: I can't agree more. I mean it was it was an unbelievable show on the defensive side down the offense I think we were again What our expectations from Marc Sanchez mine were kind of mixed like I don't know what he's gonna give us He's gonna be you know, he's gonna be all over the places. I thought he played extremely extremely well I mean he clearly showed A couple things I've learned about Mark Sanchez. One is he starts games jittery. His start, even when he started the game against Baltimore in the preseason, again we don't have a lot of games to look at, so he starts jittery. He's got to get his nerves under control. Once he kind of gets out there and starts playing, he'll get it under control. I think that's great because that shows that it's a rookie thing and that once he's It's got the experience of walking to a game. and be really good. Two is he can clearly move in the pocket. He's got very, very, he is the mirror opposite of Kellen Clemens when it comes to pocket. Kellen Clemens never felt the pressure. Kellen Clemens never could move well. I mean, yeah, he could take off and run, but he didn't know how to just. There's the ability just to move like a yard away, move a yard to the right, a yard to the left, a yard back, and it gives you that half a second that you need to throw the ball. It's not about running. It's not about Michael Vick taking off. It's about just slowly moving a little bit. And I'll tell you, one of the best in the game at doing it is actually Tom Brady. He is the best. He's very good at just... Yep. Manipulating the pocket but not but not to break out. He's still saying I want to go downfield with this ball I'm not running it cuz Tom ain't running not with not this year is specially with the knee ain't going in yet Justin: So but he's very good at manipulating the dog and get sherry. I'm very happy to see it. That's the important part. Yeah Jake: I'm very happy to see that Sanchez is like that. And I think what I saw out of him, the last thing is, he's going to make those mistakes. And it's a question of whether those mistakes are they turned around. There were a couple situations. He threw basically maybe three or four bad balls. One of them went right between two defensemen, neither one got it. Another one popped into the guy's arm, he grabbed it and it was an interception.
04 Jake: The other one was the one that I just played the game, I'm pretelling here my play of the game because it was such a non-play but such a big deal. We'll see through an interception right to the corner. and the corner was going to take it to the house. He was definitely on his way, and there was Leanne Washington, and took his arm and just swiped it down in what is only a running back. And he swiped it down like a defender and knocked that ball right out of the defender's hands. And it didn't turn into anything. And it's those types of things. It's like, Thank you. Someone that's luck someone that's good players and it's gonna be can he come back from those can he learn from them and can he become better? But what did you see in Marc Sanchez on his opener? I saw an athlete Justin: Is what I saw? Um, I I I did not know that we were getting a mobile quarterback Yeah, I thought that was a pocket passer. I I didn't know that we were getting a guy that we could roll out on a bootleg or that we could even have designed plays to move him around even with some trickery, I'm sure we'll see that with the Wildcat and whatnot That's what I saw. It was interesting. I didn't know that he was that agile. And I saw a pretty good arm. He's got a good arm. He can throw the ball. He can throw the ball on the money too. It's not just a strong arm. He's a strong arm with accuracy. He actually... throws the ball pretty well. And I thought for rookie, he played a phenomenal first game as a starter. Just, you know, you couldn't ask for much more than, you know, the game that he gave you, 272 yards, only one pick and one touchdown. That's a pretty good game. And a victory, which is more important. I liked what I saw and I liked what I heard from the kid after the game, you know, he sounded like a polished he's he's he's kind of He seems like he can handle it. I know it's only one game So I don't want to like, you know go overboard and say here's you know our next great Quarterback who's gonna start for the Jets for the next you know, 13 years, but I hope, you know, he seems like like he might have it, you know, he's got something. So that's what I saw from him. And I was really, really impressed by him. You know, not to, you know, go back to you know, go back to our previous quarterbacks, but I don't think we've had any quarterback with
04 Justin: this dynamic of a skill set in a while. Favre was here last year for one year and he was kind of injured and old and washed up. He couldn't move like he used to move. Chad didn't move like this. Then he couldn't move like this, he had the arm, but yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see how the offense evolves. And I think if Schadenheimer is given the opportunity, which I think he is, there's gonna be some interesting stuff going on by the middle end of this season with that offense. Aside from just him though, I think what we saw was one of the better offensive lines in the league. protecting a rookie quarterback and a team that was dedicated to running the ball. And when you're dedicated to running the ball and you have a great offensive line like this, you're going to be able to run the ball. We ran the ball for 190 yards. uh They only gained 183 total. So we outran them, which is pretty cool. Jake: And I think what's really important about that stat is not the 190 yards, but that the 190 yards came from a second half where the first half, we spent all the time running and getting nothing. There was a point where they put up Thomas Jones' stats at the beginning. And I think in the first half, he had like one yard. Justin: Yeah, well, you know what happens? He ended up with 20 rushes and Leon ended up with 15 rushes and eventually by the end of the game an offensive line like ours is going to end up beating up their defense. Not to also mention the fact that we had the ball for 39 minutes, they had the ball for 21 minutes, which means they were tired. Their defense was physically tired. It was the first game of the season, they were physically tired by the end of the game and our offensive line took advantage and just beat them up and made some other big plays. We'll get into our plays of the game, you kind of spilled yours. Jake: uh... later on yes i was told my so what's what's what's go ahead i i get sure again it was it was uh... and washington's basically defensive play i think it was that probably would be a big game changers early enough in the game that the the guy would have you know it would have been it would've changed that the scope of that game it's not like the intersection towards the end we were already up You know, that was their only score. And again, let's do a huge shout out to the defense. They allowed no offensive score. It's a shutout for the defense. Justin: Like I said, I don't think they got past the 50 more than once or twice and not even into field goal range. So no scoring. Jake: Well, they certainly never got into field goal range because they never even tried.
00 Jake: So give me your offensive or defensive play of the game. Justin: There's actually, you know, I'd love to. uh, pick a defensive play of the game because the defense was so great, but, uh, I can't really pick one, so I'm actually gonna pick an offensive play, which I think was, uh, kind of the... the play that, um, set the game in stone, um... Which was the kind of 40-yard reception to Dustin Keller in the fourth quarter I think it was just after the interception like the next drive and it was You know edging towards being a three and out and that is a momentum changer at that point With the Jets only up I think it was 17-7 at that point. And that's a, you know, that's a momentum changer on the road with like 10 minutes left in the game if a team after an interception for a touchdown can then get a 3 and out. But on third down and long Sanchez hooked up with Keller who is manned up outside and just burnt his guy and Keller put it, uh, Sanchez just put it right on a line, uh, right in his chest and, uh, it was like a 40-yard reception and it kept the drive going and that, uh, you know, shortly thereafter Thomas Jones went for his 38-yard touchdown and scored, uh, all set up by that. uh... big play uh... which i thought was to play the game Jake: kept the moment and i know and that's a good one now is that at that's a really at the really good i will say that uh... you know that play was amazing cuz it was teller who came around the outside of the defense and caught that ball which was pretty impressive um... the and if you look at the i think you know we talk a lot about receivers and spina media about whose receivers of the of the jets do they have that number one receiver will look at the passing yardage for the first of cotry ninety yards for the game averaging fifteen to get 94 averaging 23.5 Stuckey 64 averaging 16 with a long 30 and a touchdown. Leon Washington 24 with a long of 8. You look at that and you're like, oh yeah, that is our receiving core. It's a receiver. It's a tight end. It's another receiver. It's Leon. Is it running back? Justin: I mean, Leon got his 20 touches, which is what I think most of us chat fans want to see. Leon with the ball 15 to 20 times a game. Whether it be screen passes or shovel passes or whatever, or just straight up running plays, draw plays or whatever.
02 Justin: We want him to have the ball because he's dynamic. He's really really dynamic. Jake: I want him to be the sprulls of our team. He is the sprulls of our team. I want him to be that player that is so dynamic so just he just any time you hand in the ball It could be the game changer And anyway, I'm just so impressed. Justin: When you look at it though, you know, to that point though, of the sprulls, just to close this out, when you look at it, our offense is the charger's offense. It's the same model. in general. That's where Schottenheimer grew up and he learned under Cam Cameron who installed that offense over there in San Diego who's no longer there but went to Baltimore and worked with Rex Ryan last year in Baltimore as the offensive coordinator. It's kind of no wonder that this style is here in New York. Even though he was here before with Mangini they obviously kept him around for a reason. and they liked them, they liked the style. And... he understands he meaning Schottenheimer that the sproles role that backup switcher upper the Dave maggot if you will to go back to the 80s oh wow yeah really very good in that role as a special teams player and a third downback It's important. It's an important role on the team and the Jets know it's important because they've voted him their MVP a couple times. So, you know, give him the ball. 20 times a game. We'll be in good shape. Jake: Totally. But since we won the game, you know, remember last year we kind of made the decision that... if you win the game we get to make will both name a uh... uh... night of the game if we lose the game will both name a full no point in the falls when you win known point naming nights when you lose so uh... do you want to go first with your first two thousand nine while i think the game Justin: uh... what do you get first Jake: i have because i have to in mind i'm gonna I'll make it easy for you because I'm going to take the one you can't It would be tough. I mean I you know parley wants to throw it towards uh towards rexy sexy rexy and his uh, And his first win Um, you know, I he got the team pumped up He got him on the field. He called the defense which I I love by the way. I just yeah, it's cold Let the head coach has some Justin: Some of that in him Jake: But he also knows what he's good at. That's what you're good at, so do it. Don't be the guy you can't be. Be the guy you can be. So that would be one. But you can't not give it to Marc Sanchez. For me, he's a quarterback. He played amazingly. He came out and did stuff that, again, other teams,
03 Jake: so many quarterbacks played so horribly this week. Even some that we're gonna talk about later He played so well and yes couple drop passes couple things, you know, I think the jet fans are gonna be very Excited for a long period of time with this guy you give him the night of the week I give him the night of the week Marc Sanchez. Here's to you night of the week. I wear your jersey Justin: In in very pride that's kind of funny that you yours that that was kind of your like obvious guy because he wasn't even one of my two. I'd like to give mine to Dorell Reavis because yeah, because I think that because of Dorell Reavis Rex Ryan can call his defense. I think that Rex Ryan's defense is so kind of predicated on having that guy out there in the corner on the island, so to speak, that can just be there on his own. And it's like, okay, you are going to follow the best receiver on the other team and wherever he goes And you're just gonna cover him by yourself. And that's your game plan. So you go away and study, and the rest of us are gonna figure out how to beat the shit out of this quarterback. Because that's really what they're doing. He's, he's, if you think about it, he's quite the tackler. Anytime they run towards him, he tackles a guy. Jake: He... Justin: very rarely gets even thrown at and when they do it they don't that's why he only will have like one or two interceptions you know I because they don't throw it at him so I think that that Rex Ryan has has got this kind of defensive scheme that needs a guy like Rebus and Rebus came through and I think he's kind of elevated his game to being If not him, the guy on Oakland are the two best corners in the league. Nandi, Yasmuga, Wawa, however you say it. Him and Rivas are probably the two best in the league. So he's my knight, and if I wasn't giving it to him, I was giving it to Jenkins for disrupting the whole game in the middle of the field. That's true. Jake: To two very good nights, you know, and that was the game that was we spent a lot of time on it But I mean come on first game is so exciting when it was such a great game good amount of time Reason to spend time on it. And now let's go up. Let's talk a little bit Let's talk about a little bit what happened last week and some of the games Then we'll go want to talk about so we'll do our throne are thrown picks for the other games and then we'll
00 Jake: finalize will end up with what we're gonna do about the Patriots coming up this week and we'll make picks at the end of that segment so let's talk a little bit about what happened in in other kingdoms I mean we had the Miami Dolphins against the Falcons I don't know if you got a chance to watch the game I did not Justin: I did not get a chance to watch the game but I believe I picked this game correctly last week and I believe Jake: you didn't now i did all you talk about what we throw this week do we both go through Justin: anything we did i think we both went through we did we both went to you know Jake: uh... and i did watch it how did my father no i look at watch the whole game and they looked good you know they're my family was tough to see Because that's really sick But they played against a team that looked really bad the Dolphins on offense anyway The defense was actually up there. They were trying really hard the offense just a little just struggled I mean Chad was getting pressured. He was getting sacked. He was having he had a forced fumble He had a he had a interception This is a guy who had seven interceptions all last year and then of course four in the playoffs The dolphins are have a tough one and I'll tell you here's their schedule coming up They go now that India Monday night at home Then they had then they go to then they go to Justin: San Diego going west on a short week who made that skin they have the bill Jake: Then they have the bills then they have the Jets. No. Yep, those in the Jets It's possible that the dolphins could go 0 and 5 Justin: Oh yeah, oh yeah, very possible. Oh yeah, and you know what? I think a big problem, I didn't watch the game, but I did read a little bit about the game and I did hear a little bit about it on the other podcasts that I listened to. uh... and what i heard was that the dolphins had a hard time gaining yards on like first and second down and ended up in a lot of third and long type situations. And I remember back when Chad was with the Jets, third and long was never a good situation for the Jets with Chad. No, because... Draw play. Yeah, draw play. Like screen pass, you know? Because he doesn't have the arm... to throw the ball longer than that distance when you know that he has to throw at that distance. So he's fine. I never thought it was first and 10 and he can play fake and throw it 20 yards down the field. But if it's like third and nine or third and 11 and you know he has to throw the ball like 15 yards down the field to get the first down. you can kind of put your safeties right there and he's not he's not getting it past you uh and that was actually something that Sanchez impressed me with we had a lot of third and longs especially in the first half when we were gaining no yards on the ground and he was completing passes um
02 Justin: and gaining those first downs, which was really impressive. So that was just something I read. You watched the game. You might be able to comment on that a little bit better than I did. Jake: I totally agree. And again, I love the Chad. I kind of love, hate the Chad. But he can make every throw. But the difference between the way he makes them and the way the farb throws the ball and the way he throws the ball, you got sort of the loop issue, right? You can throw the ball in an arc. We'll be right back. We can throw the ball on what is called the frozen rope, which I hate the expression for some reason, but the frozen rope versus the arc. He throws the arc, and that gives the defender an extra minute, or sorry, a minute, a couple seconds to see where it's going and to pick it and run back for touchdown versus, you know, Marc Sanchez, or hopefully Marc Sanchez, but certainly people like Favre who throw the rope, and it gives them no time to find out where that ball's going, and it's there, and the ball is going. the guys off uh... but so this week to taking on on monday night football um... they're taking on the cults uh... give me a little prediction use of the wrong text Justin: for this day you know i don't like the dolphins at all this season i don't think that i think that even though this is their home opener the cults will be fine on the road They lost receiver last week but it didn't seem to matter. Manning still threw for over 300 yards and they still have Reggie Wayne and I think that they'll handle Miami on Monday night. Score. Miami can play defense, let's say 24-10 colts. Jake: Must have must have read my mind. Yeah, I totally agree. I think the Colts still are the Colts. They still are a good team You know, they've lost some weapons But their team also I feel like gets better as the season goes on as Peyton gets into his rhythm as the defense gets Going I see this Colt 28 dolphin 17. So I'm calling it and then of course last week the bills took on the paper it's in the money night uh... the money might melt down uh... which of course you watch them hoping you watch the game definitely horrible you know a team and i was not go to deeply into because it's been discussed to death but a team that is up by twelve points and with five minutes left in the game and loses deserves to lose, any team that allows the same team to come back and score two touchdowns in two minutes of a game on the same play twice deserves to lose, and any team that doesn't any special ed, special eds, especially if they do appropriate, any special teams coach who doesn't tell their, you know, corner or the receiver to go out there and get the ball. It doesn't tell him exactly what to do. Your job is, and when Westoff sends out to his guys, he says, here's your job. Do your job.
00 Jake: And he should have said, then listen, you're going out. You've got no blocking because you've got the hands team up there, right? They're not going to block for you. So if you get the ball and you feel like you can run it out 20, run it out 20, take a dive. It's not about whether you make four or five more yards because, dude, this is about time. time. We just got to waste time if you make two yards, that's not gonna help us We're not gonna win this game by kicking a field goal. We're gonna win this game by Glaring out the clock It doesn't matter we started the 20 25 or the 30 is the same amount of time We have to rip off the clock that is an obvious thing. They didn't do it. They lost the game The Patriots came back Brady looked good, but now and we'll get to Brady in a second But now the Tampa Bay buck Tampa Bay Buccaneers come into into the Buffalo Bills house and take them on. The Bucks lost last week in our kind of a mess of a team, but what do you think happens to Justin: Bucks Bills this week? I have the feeling the Bills will be able to bounce back and they're kind of backed up against a corner in a sort of must win type situation this week because of the way that they lost. Um, you know a lot of people were saying why didn't he just kneel down? He was in the end zone. Um, I don't mind that he ran it out. I mind that he did exactly the opposite of what you said, which is as soon as somebody's within five yards of you, just fall. Just fall. It's so simple. Uh, but despite that, they were beating the pads. They were beating them pretty good. Their defense was handling the Tom Brady and the Randy Moss and the Wes Welker and the Neroni and the running back. So I think the Bills can handle Tampa. So I'm gonna go with a victory for the bills by a score of... Let's just go with, I think they're actually going to score some points at home. Tio's going to have a good game, I feel 30... 30 to 13. Jake: Yeah, I do not agree with you. I do not think that you lose like that on a Monday night and you bounce back. I think if they lost on a Sunday, I know this is a weird thing to say, but I think if they lost on a Sunday, I'd be like, yeah, maybe they could bounce back. No, no, no, they're not bouncing back from that game. They were on the road. They're coming back. There's a home opener though, remember? Doesn't matter. Well, you're predicting the Dolphins losing a home opener. Buccaneers win 23-19. Then we have the game of the week, the game of the century. I tweeted the other day, I said I don't want this to be talked about as our Super Bowl because Arce the only thing that's our Super Bowl is our Super Bowl. This is just another effing game or fucking game If the Patriots and you know in watching them in the Bills game, I saw two Patriots play. I saw two Patriots I saw the Patriots in the first half where Tom Brady was missing receivers and I was like
04 Justin: Looked a little and then he comes Jake: Then he comes back and throws more, I think he set a record for the most completions in a game. So clearly hasn't lost too much of a step. But again, to me it was the first half, first half bills and second half bills. First half bills pressured him, kept him thinking, you know, kept him on his feet or whatever and pressured him a lot. second half bills did prevent defense i just a prevent himself from winning the setback made to see what he would do you know he did he said okay this was walker others was walker this was walk are you gonna come in close unless walker out there's many months oh and then you think randy mosses and okay with her been and he anyone in a real good the second half uh... Clearly, I mean, I don't know. We'll give my pick in a second, but what do you think's gonna happen? What do you think about the Patriots and what they're doing? Justin: Well, I... My opinion of them didn't really change from before the season till... up until now. They're still, to me, the team to beat, you know. They went... undefeated in the regular season the last time they had this quarterback playing. So to me they're still when Tom Brady's playing in the regular season they don't lose so to me they're still kind of that team and their offense is just unreal. Their defense though on the other hand, does look a little shaky. It looks like they could be scored upon. The Bills were beating them up until, like we said, two minutes left in the game. Jake: And I don't think they were doing it with a good defense, by the way. I do not think the Buffalo Bills have a good offense. I think that the whole hurry up offense for the entire game is bullshit. It's like saying Thank you. Oh, I want you to make all the decisions but make them faster, and no one's going to figure that out. And putting all the pressure on the quarterback to make all those calls, I think it's bullshit. So to me, and I'm sorry for interrupting, but I totally, if the Bills could do it with what they have for weapons, I feel like we could do it. And we can put it to peace. Justin: And the Bills kind of ran all over New England too, which is interesting. They don't have the stats, like the rushing stats, but they were running whenever they wanted to, and they were kind of hitting their running backs out of the backfield with a lot of passes. Like, I think his name is Fred Jackson. He had more than 120, 130 total yards out of the backfield. So I think we could follow a similar formula. and that we did in week one and I think that'll probably just be our formula all year long.
03 Justin: Try and run the ball with Thomas Jones 20 times a game and Leon Washington 10 times a game and get the ball to Leon 15 to 20 times a game and if that is the The game plan, I'm not sure New England has an answer for that. Their best player on defense is probably the linebacker Mayo, if not Wilford in the middle. And Mayo missed a large chunk of that game. He missed the whole second half, I think. And he's out. Yeah, so he's gone. player he's a superstar for them on defense so It's gonna be close Call it. Yeah, I hate to and Every time we do throne picks. I think every year. I have the Jets going 16 and 0 when we do thrown picks. No, no, no. Jake: Once or twice. I will admit to that every day. I'll admit to that. In the beginning of the season, and I will say this straight up, in the beginning of the season, I can look objectively on games that I'm not going to play that week, because I do play the game, because I'm a Jet Fan. I'm on the field, of course. But game by game I cannot see any game thinking we cannot I know it's so hard Justin: Before the season started I picked us to lose this game Jake: Yes, you did and I did too and but I'm gonna but I'm gonna say they're two different picks One is a season pick looking objectively and one is knowing what we know. Hey, we didn't know how good our defense could be Justin: We didn't know what our intentions would be. We're winning this game We're winning this game. We're going to actually win this game. 23...17. Jake: I like it. I totally agree. Again, I make no apologies for being a homer. Me neither. I make no apologies. I make no apologies for being a super fan. Yes, that we are super fans and again if you want to see what I really think was going to happen this season, I thought 8 and 8 for the season and yes I had us losing this game. But when you get game by game, I'm going to pick the Jets to win and I think they're going to win this game. I don't think there's any game that they can't win on any given Sunday and that's just the way I feel about it. I think this is a Patriots 20, Jets 24, Jets win. uh... expect a lot of in washington expert a lot of him everywhere and i want some special teams action i want to see something happen special teams that just breaks it open and braces came almost exactly what happened last year on thursday night when uh... we have a back uh... i don't think that uh... the pictures have a very good special teams i don't think that a very good defense they have lost a number one defense of player and if we can just keep in line, keep going, right? Don't let them get too far ahead. Don't, you know, yes, they're going to throw a couple of those fucking bombs down to Moss,
00 Jake: and they're going to complete the... No, they're not. And they're probably going to... Justin: Rebus is going to surprise you. Jake: They're going to complete a couple. And whether they're for touchdowns or whether they get first downs, who knows? West wall they have too many weapons not to get some points So we're not gonna the defense isn't gonna keep them scoreless But we'll keep it close and I think we'll be able to pull out the win You know the big unknown is really Ken Sanchez again stay You know Belichick as a way of making rookie quarterbacks look worse than rookie quarterbacks I think you'll be able to do well. I think this is a game where we really go to the ground and pound I think we'll be able to run on them better than we ran on on Houston last week certainly in the first half and if we can get a real rhythm going in the first half I think we'll be able to you know work that into the second half as well again pages 20 just 24 And that is it. I was going to mention that we got the call from Rex Ryan. Basically, he does this robo call where he's pre-recorded something, calls all the Jet fans. That's why he didn't call you because you're a Patriots fan. And basically, it was funny. I mean, you can find it on the web, but it basically was, we need you, the fan, to go on... On Sunday and get loud and you know, that's what you're there for and We need you to be the 12th and 13th and 14th player on the field and we need that to do and that's what we need To win and it was it was good. It was funny Not the greatest. Orator I will say but it was it was nice, you know, he is a He's clearly a guy who gets jacked up about this stuff And and if he can get hit the fan base jacked up and his defense jacked up And this could be a team that could do some interesting things this season.
