17 Jake: This is the 48th episode of the Jet Kingdom podcast for Wednesday, September 9, 2009. 4-9 predictions Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. As always on this side of the Digital Isle for the third year in a row now it's Jake and joining me across the Digital and I guess pretty old is my good buddy Justin. Justin how you doing? Justin: The Digital Isle never gets old. It continues to grow. Third year. I'm doing wonderful. I'm excited. It is the day before the season starts. Most of you will probably listen to this after the season has already started, but I cannot tell you how pumped I am. It is a wonderful time of the year. I love when the NFL starts. It's fantastic. They always kick it off with a bang, giving us a nice Thursday, Sunday night games, two Monday night games, they really know how to do it and I am pumped. Jake: Well, alright, we got a big agenda for today. We are going to do three big things. One, we are going to go game by game through the NFL, sorry, the Jets season. and and pick the winners and losers for the Jets season, so game by game. Not points, but just who it was and why, why he thought what happened. Therefore rolling up to an overall season, you're going to pick the overall season. Then we're going to go, well then I'm going to go flashback and tell you what you picked last year for the Super Bowl and we'll all laugh at that. and then we'll pick the Super Bowl from this year. Then we'll do throne picks for this week, week one. God, getting the rust off here. So we'll pick the Buffalo New England game, the Jets Houston game, and the Miami Falcons game. And then we will answer a question from the Twitterverse. We have one question up there so we'll answer that and talk a little bit about that. So let's go. Justin: Let's start. All right. Where do you want to start? Let's start with the season. So let's start with the season. So that's a good place to start. Jake: So let's pretend like you didn't read the article I posted on JetKingdom.com. Umm, alright. Alright. And let's go game by game and let's see what were they. So first game is up, right? We're going to talk week one. We have uh, at Houston. And what do you think happening at Houston? Since we'll talk about it a little bit, I guess we're going to do a double pick here. But what do you think happens at Houston week one near jets?
01 Justin: Mark Sanchez's first game at Houston, I think that we're going to actually win this game. I want to clock start so I'm gonna go with they want to know start I Jake: Agree agree. I think you know I've been listening to a lot of stuff. He's been putting out I think they've got some they've got more issues than we do at this point I don't like being in Houston for that game against the Texans But I will I'll call to win we start the you know Start the season with a 1-0. I think that's good. It's gonna be like last year. You know, have a nice start to the year. I think we're gonna show them a lot of the ground and the pound for this game, actually all season. Which leads us to the second game, home opener. Patriots come to town. What do you see happening? Justin: Why do the schedule makers do this to us every year? Because they hate us. Why do we have to open with the patents? Jake: I think because it's good television and it's good to get the fan base riled up for the Jets fan base. Justin: So much rather open with Miami or something. But anyway, unfortunately, I think Tom Brady and his kids are a little too much for us the first go around. So I'm going to go with a loss on this one and get us to one and one. Jake: Agreed. Too much to handle too soon, right? Our defense. comments. My prediction is really that the defense is going to get better as the season goes on, but we have a really tough start this season. I think we're going to lose against the Patriots. The only upside that I'm sort of kind of with this whole Seymour thing, the Raiders picking up Seymour for our first round pick in 2011 was just insane, which I don't even want to say. in. insane trade but anyway it just doesn't make any sense so uh... with the you know that you think look at all the losses they got the bruce qi lost they have variable lost they have uh... harris and lost and they have now uh... see more is the core of that defense still around it doesn't matter and it's not but you Justin: know what i i i I don't know if it matters, I think, in that game, in that particular game, New England's going to beat us with their offense. Jake: Yeah, yeah, I think the Patriots teams, if you're going to pick a lot of score, a lot of points to be scored, I think the Patriots are going to play a lot of catch up this year, or at least like, we'll put up 50 if you put up 40. So I don't think the defense is going to stop many people, but I think they will put up 30... 30. 30 to 50 tons of points. So yeah, I agree they lost so so we lose Then we have the Titans we get to stay at home again Titans come to town This is a grudge match from last year I would think right the Titans who we we were they were 10 and 0
02 Jake: We went down to Tennessee and we laid a little smack down on them National TV big game and I think they're coming back for some event. What do you think happens? Justin: To be honest, I think we actually win this game again. I think we happen to match up really well with Tennessee. We've beaten them the last bunch of times we've played them. I can remember at least the last two or three times we've played them, we've beaten them, and they've been decent. You know, all throughout the Jeff Fisher era. and You know, their starting quarterback is still Kerry Collins, you know. Uh, sure they went whatever, 13-3 or whatever they did last year, 14-2, 13-3, something in that area, but they lost in the playoffs and they are totally vulnerable to... uh to a team that can can get after the quarterback and i think that that's what we're gonna do so i'm actually gonna slate us for uh a victory here uh a two and one start uh i disagree i i think Jake: it's gonna be a tough tough start uh titans are i don't think they've lost a lot of steps from last year, of course, I did lose Haynesworth. I think this is a loss. I'm not saying it's going to be a blowout, but I just see this as a loss. I see us not being able to handle it. And then, we go on the road. Justin: Well, don't you see us being able to handle, though, about Tennessee? Do you think that they're really as good as their record said that they were last year? Jake: I think it's almost like the reverse of last year, right? Because, yeah, I think the record, they are that good. They do have a good defense. They've got some good linebackers. You know, Kerry Collins has given the ability not to lose the game, and he did that very well last year. I think the Jets rode a high of, remember last year what the schedule was? We went up on Thursday night to the Patriots, and we beat them, and I think we were, in over time. Huge, huge prime time game NFL network and then I think we rode that all the way down. We had the extra week, the extra couple days to prepare. We went down and we came out with just a really good game plan, didn't make mistakes and beat the Titans last year. I don't think we have any of that this year. I think our defense is going to have ebbs and flows. It's going to be until it really starts to settle and everybody starts to get there. I just don't see it happening. We're also still going to be without pace. We're going to have back LS, but pace is still going to be out. I just don't see us winning that, so I'm going to give us, I'm starting us off at 1 and 2. Then we get on the road and head down to the big saints in New Orleans and take on Drew Brees and the boys. is the high flying offense from last year and two years ago.
00 Justin: Yeah, so I think they're really tough to play in New Orleans. There's something about playing in New Orleans since Katrina that it's very hard to play in that dome. They're very behind the Saints. And I think that they're just gonna be a little a little too Too fast for us on that day and They're gonna just outscore us. I think that that's how we're gonna lose games. We're just not gonna be able to Stop teams for some for some reason early on in the season. You mean they'll be throwing Toledo Shepherd all day Yeah, I think that that's what's gonna end up actually happening. Jake: Or his new nickname is Lido Barrett. Justin: Oh god. Geez. Did you notice Dwight Lowry changed his number? No, did he? Yeah, he's now 21. He's not 31. I think Lido Sheppard just changed his number and changed his name. Like, don't throw here, I'm not Lido Shepard. Jake: It should be 23 and a half, so it's close to 24. Justin: Every DB should do that. Just change their number every game so that they can't target you. But I think this is a loss, bringing us to 2 and 2 after the first quarter of the season. And you know, I always look at the season in quarters and I like to pick the season in quarters, in fours, and I think after four games will be two and two. That is a difficult schedule to look at and say which of those two games we're going to win, but I do not see us being one in three or oh in four, nor do I see us being three in one or four in oh, obviously. Jake: Yeah, I mean, I think if you're doing quarters, I say we're one and three going in. There's a chance that we're 0 and 4. I think we win against Houston. We don't win against Houston. It becomes a tough, tough set. But I think we lose against the Saints. You nailed it. They're not really known for their huge defense, but they are known for putting up points. They do very well at home. Um... You know, this is a game where I don't think our team is meant to take on high-scoring teams until we can really shut down their game. I don't think we're going to be able to shut down their game. So then we head, still on the road, head to our only Monday night game. time. Thank you. uh, this year, which is the Monday Night Game against the Dolphins, uh, which is a big game. I mean, you know, it's a division rival, it's all, we've played them on Monday Night a lot. Um, I think they're, they're hoping for the next Monday Night Miracle. Justin: Uh, I'll start off by saying this is a good quarter. this quarter of the of the season this five six seven eight and then by week week nine is a very important chunk of the season uh it's a soft spot in the schedule uh starting off with in miami
05 Justin: monday night uh i see us winning this game um in miami i think by this time week five i think I think I've said this on... the previous couple of podcasts this is where our defense is going to start to jail and come together and understand the system a little bit more uh they'll have the full team back with pace and uh i think they're gonna get after miami um for kind of you know i think there are a lot of players on this team that that were the there last year and kind of carry over that. That was a really nasty end of the season last year for us and it got capped off with a loss to Miami in New York watching them celebrate winning the division on our field after beating us with Chad Pennington. We're gonna go down there and kick their ass. uh... seriously if if i'm gonna pick scores on the same they're gonna score Jake: three points in this game all the lawn okay okay we'll have to hear it going Justin: wars every we're going to kill them every little them in thrown pics will come back to death we're gonna sack we're gonna sack chad pennington eight times if if if chance to play and come on now that's what i mean whoever it is for the killer Jake: i i i agree i think this is this is a good this is when and i and i can't it's kinda hard to agree but i agree this is the power that was just a Justin: once just agree with me on everything to say i'm the smartest guy in the world oh yeah i disagree on that uh... Jake: uh... this is the game that i think you're right i think it's a monday night game i think santa shia shines and i can just see the headlines the next day it's you know, Sanchez shines on Monday night, Monday night Sanchez Sanchez comes to town Sanchez. I could just see it happening. Dirty Sanchez Monday night, Monday night football. Uh, I can't wait. I'll be down there for the game. Um, and uh, I'm like, I'm totally excited. A level Monday night game. I think we've done well against them on Monday night. I think the last Monday night we did was It was on, it was two years ago, I think it was the Christmas, the Christmas Monday night. It poured, but Chad pulled it out at the end. I think it was the Leon Washington memory. Justin: It was the Leon Washington screenplay. That was two or three years ago. Jake: That was two years ago. It was awesome. I was down there for that one too and I just loved that one. So then, I'm just trying to see if I can... Then we play Buffalo. We play Buffalo. Justin: Buffalo comes to town. Buffalo comes to town. on. Yeah, I think Buffalo is going to be one of the worst teams in the league this year. Um, so... Even with TO, you don't think the TO's gonna... How does TO make a team better? I don't see how you insert TO on a bad team and that team gets better. You can maybe insert TO on a team that's... Like, already on the cusp, or ready to become a next level team, or go deep in the playoffs, or at least win a division. But Buffalo sucked. They sucked last year. And I think they're gonna suck again this year, because you can have all the weapons in the world.
11 Justin: But if you can't block the guys that are trying to kill your quarterback, then you have no chance. And they traded away a pro bowl tackle, and did nothing to replace it. They have a sieve of an offensive line, and they fired their offensive coordinator a week before the season started. Three teams did that. How the fuck do you fire your basically second in command... the week before the season starts. Yeah. That's like the worst planning ever. How do you do that? Why don't you just deal with it? Like, at that point, you're screwed anyway. What are you gonna do between the last pre-season game and the first regular season game that you couldn't have done like... you know the last two months I don't get it we're gonna win that game yeah I agree we're actually four and two after that. I'll give it a win Jake: I'll say I agree it's a win you know the Bills the Bills are like the team though no matter how bad they are they always seem to be just once and I will say in both my things this year I didn't let them win once and that's probably a mistake. So if I'm going to look at my predictions, one of the things I think that's probably off the most is that I think that who will win both against the Bills and they almost no matter how bad they are or no matter how bad we are, well they haven't been very good for a while. but. They always seem to be us ones, but I agree. I think we win that game. Then we head on the road, because we've never done this before. We never go, we never play this team ever again. I don't know why it lands on our schedule every year. It almost feels like they're in our division. Then we go on the road and we play the Raiders in Oakland. Justin: It's crazy, me. Why across the country again? Jake: If you think there's probably, if you think that the the the Bill's gonna be the worst team in the league You're sort of not paying attention to what the leaders are doing. Justin: Yeah, there's a couple couple really bad teams. You're right, the Raiders being one of them. Um, unfortunately, I have to, um, I'm pecking here with my brain that I think we're gonna lose this game. I don't know why, but we... tend to lose to the Raiders. Yeah, that's it. There's no rhyme or reason. We just tend to lose to the Raiders. Wow, I can't. Jake: I mean, we lost to a field goal to them last year. I don't see it happening. I think if this is the good quarter, those three games are wins. So you actually have us at that point at the same that I do, which is? Justin: 4 and 3, I have us. Jake: 4 and 3, right? Justin: I have us at 4 and 3. Jake: Yeah, so that's the switch. Yeah, I think we win. I think that team is, you know, last year was a fluke and no, no way.
00 Jake: No way did they get to score that many points. No way did they get to keep in there. No way did we lose to the Raiders this year. But then we go back home to have to meet up with the Dolphins, which felt like we just met them like a day and a half ago. Justin: So a little weird, little weird. to play the Dolphins twice in the span of four weeks, but it is what it is, and I think we're gonna sweep Miami this year. I like that as a win in the Meadowlands, you know Chad's last game in the Meadowlands. If he's playing and I think that's a victory I I think Miami's gonna be one of the teams that Has just like last year they had the big Improvement I think they're gonna have a big letdown this year. Like, their schedule is really difficult and I just think that it's gonna catch up to them a little bit. Like last year they kinda caught people off guard with Wildcat and some weird plays and they got lucky here and there and, you know, they had the, you know, some luckiness with... maybe Parcel's magic touch first year kind of thing, but I think they're gonna be in for a rough rough season. So I'll have us winning and going into the buy at five and three. Jake: Yeah, I don't see that. I think we're we lose that game. I think the Dolphins for all their you know for all the hype around the Wildcat and They still have a good enough team to put together. And I think it's one of these that you just can't predict what's going to happen with an AFC East matchup. And I think we lose that game. It's one of those just painful hosses. I'll be sitting in my seat screaming my head off, but then my wife will be sitting next to me laughing. But no, I think we lose that game, looking at schedule right now. So then I think we're 4 and 4 heading to go. We have a bye at that point. I think we win the buy week. This is the type of buy I like. I like to buy in the middle of the season. Later would be nicer. It would be nicer to have a little bit later because I think that's when you need it. Justin: I don't think it's possible to get it too much later than that, is it? Jake: I think it is in week 11. I think we can 10 is the last one. OK, well then that's good enough, because it's a good week. Again, right in the middle, kind of like you can get your, you know, get some people healthy and get ready to hit that second part of the season. Justin: I agree. I like it a lot more when it's towards the middle of the season than I think. One year I think we had like one of the first like week three or week four and I hated it They were you don't even get to like get into the flow of the season before oh A week off. Yeah, so I really like it having that and it gives you a chance to prepare for a team like Jacksonville
07 Justin: who is You know fairly decent team. They had an off year last year, but uh... you know that they're they're pretty good team and i actually see us winning this game and moving to six and three Jake: yeah i don't think that you have to be the jaguars if we're gonna good and bad quarters and it starts off a pretty bad quarter i think i think the jaguars generally are uh... you know the last time they were the metal and i think that the effect shh didn't they know that was not and in the last house Justin: Oh, they creamed us like 41 three years. Oh, yeah, they creamed us Jake: Yeah, I think this is a tough team because I think this is this a team that's gonna run. Yeah I'd love to think that we can we can win it but now I don't think we're gonna win that game Then we head up to hit the Patriots and so I have us at six and three and you have us at Justin: Five and six four and five four and five four and five. Yep, four and five and I'm at six and three. Yep And then we go to the Patriots. Now we're going up to the Pats. Um, a 4-15 game on Sunday, November 22nd. Is this possible flex game? Jake: When does flex start? Um, 11 at this point. I think flex starts after... I think it starts after week 10. Let's look it up. Oh, so so this is a possibility Yeah, 10 through 15 Justin: So this is a definite possibility being a 415 game already kind of scheduled to be a national game You know, maybe CBS would keep it. I think they have that option Jake: Yeah, the rules are that each each one has one keeper per week and then Justin: Well, anyway, I actually see us winning this one in New England and actually going to 7 and 3. Wow. Yeah, I know. We're gonna start off 7 and 3. Yeah. It's crazy, crazy, I know, crazy. But I actually see us going up there and winning that game, being kind of a big game for us. Jake: I'm going to put a big if, but if Brady is still playing, as I wrote, I said if Brady's still playing, the Patriots are still winning. Yeah, I don't see them losing this at home to us. Flex, no flex, 4 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 2 o'clock in the morning. We're not beating the Patriots this year. Yeah, I mean unless I see something out of the team, you know. early on the season but now that it's just too tough again they're the team's cup of fifty points s that's that's it and you know is is marc sanchez in a running game to be able to keep up with that i just don't think they will uh... you know uh... hope strings eternal uh... i will course may change my mind of course we get to the game i'll predict just to win
00 Jake: but this point now i'm looking at as a realist and saying absolutely not we lose that game Justin: then we have so wait a minute i have a set seven and three yep and you have a set four and six that's correct while we have the panther you can feel it's at four and six you're not going to Jake: be very happy you know i i'm again i mean you will talk about my overall prediction but i You know, this is a tough year. There's two parts to me. Okay, there's two parts to me. One of the things that, this is a rookie head coach, rookie quarterback, that means you're eight and eight at best. Right? Then there's part of me that thinks, this is a nine and 17 last year who had a huge falling out at the end of the year, you know, and could have done much more. Right? With a quarterback whose arm gave out. But all the same weapons. Now we have most of the same weapons, a much better defense. Maybe a quarterback who will make it past the last quarter of the season. So then there's this huge upside. But again, we still live in a division with the Patriots, which I think are going to dominate. We have a much tougher season this year, a much tougher schedule. and I just don't see it. Alright, well... So, I mean, my Homer hat is off. Justin: You don't see it, but I have a cv7.3 at this point. Moving right along to Carolina. Uh... So we slip up here. I think Carolina, they were pretty good last year. they I think they went 12 and 4 and uh had they not lost to arizona in the playoffs i think would would be uh you know a big you know looked at as kind of a big favorite they might even already be looked at as a big favorite uh in the in the nfc so i like carolina to beat us here at home uh... to our record to seven four Jake: yeah i'm uh... on corner the loss here uh... i think it uh... i think they beat us here so i'm whether that is that has a sad four and that you have a support in seven and i was at seven and four good news is that they could see the season to be a nate you know we're gonna win some games Justin: This is weird, because... I'm actually going to start going, you know, we'll see. Next game. So I'm at seven and three, you're at, you're at uh... Jake: No, seven and four, four and seven. Justin: Seven and four, four and seven. Alright, got it. Next game we... Next game is at Buffalo. Jake: It's Thursday night game at the Toronto, whatever center. This is a game I'm actually thinking about making a big road trip to go to, because I'm kind of excited about going. Yeah, I'm thinking about going, driving up on the Thursdays and going to the Rogers center. in that Toronto Canada to see this game Justin: it sounds like a fun yeah so uh... you know if you do that if you want a uh... partner crime Jake: I will I I'm pretty much going to do a already put in my time for today to to
03 Jake: do it so let me know uh... special podcast in Canada our first international podcast Justin: So what do you think? International! Victory! It's tough going on the road on the Thursday. It is tough, but as I said the bills are not going to be any good and at this point I think our defense is going to be able to sack. Whoever their quarterback's going to be at that point, because Trent Edwards might have died at least eight to ten times, they are going to be like a sieve, their offensive line, and Tio's going to be very miserable by that point because he's going to have about 32 catches. because they can't block long enough for him to go run his patterns. So I like the Jets to beat the Bills in Canada. Jake: I agree. I think there's, as I wrote, since we will come off what I'm calling a four game losing streak, I say nothing like the Bills, a snap losing streak. Then we take on the Bucks down in. Justin: Yeah, speaking of awful teams, the Bucks are pretty awful. Another team that fired their offensive coordinator just before the season started. Oddly enough, it's the guy jagged. you Jagged Kowski or whatever his name was the guy from Boston College. I know got fired From Boston College just for interviewing for the Jets head coaching job Good thing we didn't hire him because he just got fired as an offensive coordinator by a rookie head coach in Tampa So I like the Jets to win this game because Tampa's a mess this year Who's their quarterback Yeah, I don't know. I don't even know. Honestly, I don't know. Um, so I'm gonna go with the Jets here, uh, moving the Jets to a really nice 9-4. Jake: Yeah, I think at this point, I don't know, but I'm calling it a win. Um, you know, the Bucks might actually have Jeff Garcia back because he got kicked out of it. He got kicked out of the Raiders, which is just another stupid thing for the Raiders. Then we go to the Falcons. Falcons come to town, as it were, and a Southern team on the road in the cold metal lands in December. Justin: They're a dome team. And what do you think is going to happen to them? I think they're going to win against the Jets and they're a pretty good team if you remember they made it to the NFC Championship game. Jake: No, they did not. Justin: Or did they make it to the... Oh, I'm sorry, they made it to the second round. Jake: First round. They lost against the Arizona Cardinals. First game. time. Maybe second game. Yeah maybe second game. Justin: No Atlanta made it to the second round actually.
01 Justin: They want a playoff game, did they not? Jake: I don't know if they want to think they might have had a bye. Justin: Maybe a bye. Anyway whatever it was, they're a decent team. They're up and coming and I think they're going to make a lot of noise this year Atlanta. So they're a team to watch. Um... And I think the Jets will lose to them moving us to nine and five Jake: And five nine and five it's not bad then we get the Colts Think you didn't make your pick. Oh, sorry. Yeah, it's a loss we lose I agree Then we have the Colts, you know, there's there's there's Indy Colts at Indy. What do you think happens? Justin: I think that's the last game the Colts need to win. Before they pack it up, pack it in for the season, like they always do in week 17. So the Jets are going to have a tough one there on the road. I think the Jets lose that one moving us to 9-6. Jake: Yeah, I'm actually going to call that a win. I think the Colts will be so far ahead at that point that they'll actually be resting for the last two weeks. And I think at that point, it'll be, you know, the Jets will win in the dome in Indy. I think they win the game. And then we come back to the last game to be played in the Williams. And here we are. Justin: That's it. The last game and versus Cincy, who could also be one of the worst teams in the league. Um, so... I think this is a game where going in the Jets are gonna need to win to go to the playoffs and They're gonna know that before the game starts. They're also gonna know it's the last ever game in the metal ends Be it regular season or what have you and they're gonna win that one for the fans and and and make the playoffs So that's my prediction a 10 and 6 Jets season with a rookie head coach and a rookie quarterback uh... behind a really strong offensive line with a good running game in a solid defense i think the jets are going to go ten and six and make the playoffs alright so not win the division because the pats are going to go like thirteen and three or twelve Jake: twelve and four or so hold on you'll give me their whole give me whole division in a second uh... okay i didn't know we were even doing it you gotta give me the division I agree with wind bangles, but that does put the Jets eight Nate that keeps us out of the playoffs in the AFC Because AFC is more competitive than AFC and the Jets have a good season good end You know, I think everybody goes home thinking what a great season. We're all looking forward to next year But no, we're not going too far. So now give me the AFC East from top to bottom give me their season and their Justin: Their things I want their records and the records. Yeah, so so the Jets are 10 and 6. Yeah, they're gonna finish second. Yep the Pats The Pats are gonna go I'm gonna say 12 and 4 okay
04 Justin: And then I think Miami's gonna I think the bottom of this division is really awful this year. I think maybe Miami wins 5 and Buffalo wins 4 maybe. Jake: Okay, so you're saying... So 5 and 11 and 4 and 12. So let's do it again. New England is what? 12 and 4. Justin: 12 and 4 for New England. Yep. 10 and 6 for the Jets. 10 and 6 for the NYJ. Yep. Are you writing these down or something? Yeah I am. Oh shit. I'll go with like I said 5 and 11 for the and four and twelve for the bills Jake: Wow, okay, I'm gonna give the Patriots 13-3, I think they're gonna be that good. Don't think they're gonna go very far in the playoffs, but I do think that they'll get the home buy and they'll get the home and the buy. Jets 8-8, Dolphins? I think we'll be 8-8. I think we're gonna have 2-8-8. I don't know if that's physically possible, but... Justin: uh... or whatever math math again i don't know if mine were mathematically possible but whatever and then we get six and ten bills uh... so i think that'll Jake: be at the i think that the eros bills on the playoffs uh... but that's that's it for the season i think that's what's gonna have more kinda close to the key Justin: you see more outside to the the rookie right here i i i i see uh... quite a bit of upside uh... I like to see the good in the Jets and where applicable. I like to think that we can follow this model that the Baltimore team put forth last year of solid running. careful with the ball, play really great defense, and from all the things I've been reading about Rex and his knowledge of this defense and all the coaches that he brought in to help him teach this defense, It's gonna be something special, I think. Uh, watching them play towards the middle end of the season, and then, uh, watching them really gel and start to come together, I think that they're really gonna, uh, be something to be, you know, messed with, as the season moves along. Jake: Yeah, no, I like it. I think it's a good thing. uh... i'm really for again you know i'm usually pretty it's hard to predict under a winning season for you know as a jet fan and senior homer but i think they'll i think the day nate despite a loss of her particular to be uh... i think there's too many i think the status to tough that the pictures to to get it again the ten six eight nate's only two games you know if they when it's one to the ones but uh... i'm looking for an upside giving upside i'm happy for it Let's talk about the Super Bowl. Okay, let's go write the Super Bowl. Well, first of all, let me just throw a little.
00 Jake: So last year, I predicted the Chargers over the Cowboys with a Danian Thomason as the MVP. Justin: Not even close. Yeah, not even close. Chargers made the playoffs, did they not? Jake: I think they did. I think they were one and done though. KATHRYN And you predicted the Patriots over the Saints with Maroney MVP So so I don't think the Saints made the playoffs and I don't think the Pats made the play Well, I know the paths didn't make the playoffs. So have we're 11 and 5 so having said that Give me your prediction, or I'll give you my prediction this year, since I have it ready. Unless you have yours ready. I'm ready, go on. You go first. I'm going to go first. So I think this is what I'm calling this the Pittsburgh or the Pennsylvania Super Bowl. Oh God. I think this is a repeat year. I think you get the stevers and the eagles. I'll tell you a couple reasons one is I don't think there's been a lot of loss on the on the Steelers and they had One of the hardest schedules last year. They managed to do it do it strong meaning they beat teams good teams They got to the playoffs they beat teams and then they won in the Super Bowl Justin: I don't they lost like nobody they lost Nate Washington and like Jake: Larry foot they lost like nobody exactly the same head coach I just don't see a reason for them not to be right back in it So I'm gonna predict them. I think that's a homer, you know as a pick and then the Eagles You know, I will say I'm gonna go on record, you know in the blogosphere Say I can't stand Michael Vick as a human being I don't like him at all For what he's done, but there's something in me that says that when someone does something horrific Um, or legal I guess and horrific and then goes to court, uh, gets found guilty, goes to jail, serves their time. You know, there's something in me that says that person has the right to come back and try to make their life better. And so far it looks like he's really trying to do that. So my thing with the Eagles is... They, again, were deep in the playoffs last year. They haven't had a lot of changes. I think they have a couple of new receivers that will help them out. Westbrook is always, if Westbrook stays healthy, they do well. I think they've lost some stuff on the defense. But I really think this Michael Vick factor might be interesting as we go down. Not now. Not in the first four. He doesn't play for the first four games anyway. Justin: Oh yeah, but like it's gonna be tough. Jake: But later in the season, later in the season, when it's like, you know when there's usually the McNabb, Andy Reid blowout and there's always like some problem and they have something and then they end up doing better after that problem. I think this year they don't do that. What they do do is they introduce about five or six plays a game that introduce, and we've already seen it in preseason, you know, it's either the wildcat or it's he comes in an understanding or it's something
00 Jake: that just make me know what's going to happen and they start to actually do really well and play really well. I think it's going to be true. So I'm calling it 2823 super repeat. Justin: Huh? Mhm. MVP, uh, MVP DonaldNed. Jake: wait you pick the Eagles to win yeah oh sorry no no sorry uh sorry yeah he's Justin: gonna get MVP no let's call it Ben office burger fine okay so the Eagles are gonna lose this rule yes Wow man the agony continues in Philly yeah they've had it rough okay so my super well um I think I said I had my NFC team like two or three weeks ago. I really, I believe in the Atlanta Falcons for some reason this year. I don't know why. I alluded to it during my picks. I said that they're going to be a team to watch. I think Matt Ryan's the real deal. He's a solid, solid quarterback. Really good pedigree in college and showed his stuff last year. Great receiver in Roddy Brown picked up Tony Gonzalez in the off-season for another weapon at the tight end position, which is a really solid pickup. Michael DeBurner can really, really run. He showed it last year that it wasn't just him in San Diego. He's a real deal running back. And their defense is pretty solid too. So I like Atlanta coming out of the NFC. And coming out of the AFC, I like a team that was right there last year, but just couldn't get there in the Baltimore Ravens. So I like the two second year quarterbacks to actually play each other in the Super Bowl this year. And I'm gonna go ahead and go with the Baltimore Ravens to win the Super Bowl. Give me a score. Jake: Umm... 2117. 2117 and on MVP. Ray Lewis, I'm sure. Justin: No, you know, I'm gonna stay in that vein and I'll go with Ed Reed because he'll probably score a touchdown. Probably will. I like it, I like it. Good predictions. Jake: It's in the books. In the books. Alright, let's take a question from the Twitter sphere. Justin: Can I make a... Oh, go ahead. Go with the Twitter sphere. Alright. I want to hear what this person says. I can't believe we have people that are actually contracts. Jake: www.twitter.com slash JetKingdom. We usually post before we're going to do a podcast, a couple hours before, a day before if we get that organized.
01 Jake: So I threw up one and got Tom Shane, who's actually someone who I know from another existence on another Jet board. He is TomShane1. So if you want to follow him at Tom chain one Big Jets fan sat behind me in the game once, asks, Jet Kingdom, with Sanchez's scrambling schoolyard style of play, will he survive a full NFL season with his slight build and inexperience? Why don't you take that question, Mr. Edelstein? Justin: Alright, uh, sure. I think, um... that his slight build slash schoolyard style has nothing to really do with it and I think he'll be fine it has a lot more to do with the fact that we have a really good offensive line that is not going to make him have to you know, dodge bullets every play. There are quarterbacks like Matthew Stafford, who I do not think is going to make it through the whole season, because his offensive line is not going to allow him to. Same with Trent Edwards. As Dura, you know, if he could be durable, he could be durable, but you're gonna get hurt. We had a, you know, we had an old guy standing back there last year and... He managed to get through it. So I think Sanchez is going to make it through the whole season without injury, mostly due to our offensive line being really, really solid. Jake: Yeah, I think, I clearly think he'll stay throughout the season. I'm not saying he's not going to get some serious welcome to the NFL hits. Oh, he will. Justin: But not as many as he would if he played in Detroit. Jake: But I think what he's kind of, I think is the opposite of what Tom's saying, or that's kind of not working in his sentence, is that a scrambling schoolyard style of play will keep him from getting the big hits. I think he has, and I've actually watched him in the preseason, you know, obviously closely, And I think he has a propensity to scramble faster than... then need be. In fact, I would say one of the things I would like to see him do more of is stick to the pocket. I've seen him, now he scrambles, there's times when he's actually being chased, but sometimes he will look to scramble pretty quickly. I don't think he's going to take big hits by doing that. I think he'll get out of the pocket and he'll be able to throw the ball and it'll be fine. uh... we had he is taking some big hits in the preseason and you know there's always a chance but is also an age factor like the guys whatever twenty three twenty four you Justin: know he's he's a young three twenty four i don't think he's twenty two he's probably twenty one i mean he was just a junior okay let's let's see i mean i'll tell you in a minute Well, I'm gonna tell you in a... Jake: I'll tell you in T minus four seconds. Two seconds. He is doesn't even say it doesn't matter. He's he's a very young young man.
03 Jake: And so I think there's a part of you that when you're that young, you kind of bounce back from these things. So yeah, excuse me, I do think you will take a few hits. I do think there'll probably be some that will go, oh, but I don't think he's going to end up in the wheelchair as it were. Alright, so final thing, let's go on and do the start of the season. So we get to do throne picks. Throne picks week one baby. First throne pick. I want a, just for those out there, it's throne, spelled with a T-H-O-R-N-E, like Kings, Jet Kingdom. You're all getting it now. Um... And so what we do is every week we pick the AFC East matchups pick the winner final score and the next next Week when we do our game wrap-up we don't even discuss it because generally not at all Justin: We're usually wrong by the way Sanchez Marc Sanchez is 22. He'll be 23 on November 11th. There you go Jake: I wasn't that far off. All right, so let's hear it Buffalo at New England. No, so that's the late game. Let's do let's do near Jets at Houston We've already said they're gonna give me a score. Give me a final score. I think this is gonna actually be a Justin: low scoring game I'll go 16 to 9 Jake: I'll go 21-19, Jets win. Then we have same time, one o'clock, Miami in against your Super Bowl fave. That's right. In Atlanta against the Falcons. What do you see happening there? Justin: I see Atlanta beating Miami. Let's see, score. They're going to put up some points. They're going to score some points this year. I really have a- Jake: feeling about this team 31 13 31 30 us pre-cos I went Falcons win 30 to 17 I think they'll put up a few more than 13 points and then Buffalo New England where is it in New England it's in New England they're gonna count in to be like okay it's gonna be like 50 to 2 you can say 52 all right you see you're taking the image of the wind 52 I will go to two I will go 40 to 9. So much respect. Patriots win. Patriots win. 40 to 9 and get ready. So much respect. Tons of respect. It's not going to happen. We'll see. That's it. So, so ends the preseason 2009.
