09 Jake: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Can't wait! Welcome to the J- Kingdom podcast longest one in New York Jets podcast ever. My name is Jake and joining me after a hiatus of sorts is my good buddy Justin. Justin how you doing? Justin: I'm okay. Yeah still recovering. I'm getting there. I thought I was over it. I'm not. The parade didn't help. Oh man, I mean we work in Times Square. We've talked about this before. And holy shit, you go outside on Tuesday and it was a sea of blue. It was like being a giant game. It was like being in a giant. There were so many people, I swear it was like, it was like these people would just never come into the city. They came into the city. And they had to go to Times Square. It's like, let's go to Times Square. Jake: It was just awful. Why not? All right, well, as you know, because you're a podcast listener, if you're listening right now, we missed a week or two. Two. Two. Awful. We suck. We suck. Sorry, guys. Let's just stop it. Let's just not even do it. Sorry, guys. You know what? Here's what I was thinking. I was actually thinking about this today because I knew we were going to do a podcast today. I was like, listen, we've done 140 episodes. It's All right, we have we've been around since 2007 that's almost five really two thousand seven. Yes I thought it was a six. So We're we're still here. All right, you know, I've seen there's lots of podcasts. Oh so many come and go Yeah, they come they do four episodes named despair While we might not be 100% consistent, during the season we are consistent. We are totally consistent. And we do two, if not one a week. Anyone who says we're not can go fuck themselves. Off season, it gets tough. We're Jets fans. Whatever. Fuck it. So we're back. We're gonna talk about Super Bowl. We're gonna talk about... We got tons of shit. We hired people. Super Bowls happened. Crazy, cute bitches said shit. Stupid people danced. We pick shit and oh and the best news of all I know you left that off Holmes is back not that and Seamart that's right. I want that the end and then at the very very end of the podcast. We'll talk about what we are Just like an upcoming schedule for people who are maybe just joining or don't like know what we do during the offseason We're gonna let them kind of have an expectation They don't think we're doing like four day kind of setting our own expectation at the same time. Yes, exactly I don't know what that is. Yeah, I know what it is Justin: Also, I'm hiring a coach. This is not the biggest news. Let's start with the big news. So we hired the Miami Dolphins
02 Justin: Offensive line coach to come be our offensive line coach. His name is Dave DiGuglielmo So we are we like dolphins north or something? Well, this makes sense You hire the Dolphins head coach to be your offensive coordinator and they generally bring along somebody so he brought along his offensive line coach I see nothing wrong with that. I can't say I know the guy or anything about him I do know that he's been you know, if you just look at his teams like the Dolphins have a good offensive line They run the ball pretty well He was the offensive line coach for the Giants when they won the Super Bowl in 07. That bodes well. Jake: That bodes well. They ran a huge running game. Yeah, and ran the shit out of the ball. And he'd been gone and they had him know to run the ball, so maybe... Justin: Yeah, so that's it. That's all I got. I got his name, I know a little bit about where he came from, and then he knows Sperano. So okay, fine. Jake: Alright, so let's talk about the Super Bowl because I think a lot of the Super Bowl. Let's do the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl. So I think a lot of Jets fans were saying that this was the Jets nightmare Super Bowl. It is our nightmare Super Bowl. I totally disagree. It's not... Only if you're one kind of Jets fan. Justin: That's not true. It's because I would much rather have seen the 49ers beat the Patriots. Like that to me would have been better. I would have enjoyed that more. why I would have because I wouldn't have had to seen you know walk around time spirits the others and I generally like the Giants like I don't dislike the Giants there's lots of Jets fans who are also Giants fans so careful with your words I generally don't dislike the Giants I generally like them I watch all their games I root for them Because you know the issue was this year. I have the red zone. I could watch anything. I want my shoes to watch the giant The red zone makes you watch what they want you to watch It's usually it's everything whatever I choose to watch the Giants. I like them. I watch them. I pay attention to them. I watch them this year was just They knocked us out of the playoffs and there's like a bit of resentment and hatred due to that. Like if we would have won that game, A, they would have never won the Super Bowl. They wouldn't have even been in the playoffs probably. And we could have. Like it was such a like hinge on that wheat 16 game that Jake: Just give me a little bit of a week 17 game remember we were still in it on the so we weren't even if we won Justin: That game we weren't making the plan. No, I think the math work. No the math didn't work out It did not it did not work out We were not making the playoffs regardless of what happened week 17 That game knocked us out of the playoffs and it was and it was the big mouths and the what happened afterwards with Jacob's Jake: And roll and it just I worked me out about that That just bothered me. I get it, I get it. People beat us and whatever. This is the second year in a row though that I tweeted this during the Super Bowl or something. Second year in a row that the two people in the Super Bowl beat the Jets three times during, before getting the Super Bowl.
01 Jake: Meaning that the Giants beat us once, the Patriots beat us twice. The year before it was Packers and the Steelers, right? No. Yeah. Yeah. Packers, Steelers. But we beat the Steelers. No, but they beat us once. And that's it for now. See you next week. Yeah. And no, it'd be just twice. Once in the regular season. No, we beat them in the past. Oh, right. I wasn't right. You weren't right. You're wrong. It was so good. Justin: Here. OK, as per normal, you were incorrect. Jake: So here's the thing that I that I just go on because I don't really. I get what you're saying. And yes, it's hard to see anybody. Justin: The better team won. Yeah, for me. Like, the team I wanted to win won. I was rooting for the Giants. You never want the Patriots to do anything good. No, I was rooting for the Giants. It just, I would have preferred if it hadn't been Giants. If it was the 49ers. Because there's no association. Zero zilch. Nothing would have meant nothing to me. Okay. Like last year. Whatever. So Green Bay 1. I didn't want pinceberg twins, they just beat us. Right. Didn't matter to me though. Jake: Yeah, I guess. I, I, I, I'll go down the list of, of like my priorities in life. Yes, the jets, number one. But the second thing is, I live in New York City, and I consider this one of the greatest cities in the world. And... I like it when we get notoriety. And that notoriety, you know, here's what Jets fans don't like about the Jets Giants thing is that we're the little brother. Here's where I'm at it. Yeah, we're the little brother. We're not fucking turning that around at this point. They've got four Super Bowl rings. We've got one. They've won two Super Bowls in the last. four years we've won one in the last 30 something years we're not getting it back unless we turn it flip it bump it and then we run like five in a row we're not doing it so you know what but that doesn't mean we're not a good team that's doesn't mean you can't be a fan you just have to know that you're the little brother of that other fucking team and sometimes you the little brothers gonna get up on them and pound them in the sand and we're gonna win and sometimes we're gonna get all the accolades But we're the little brother. That's it. Yeah, we're the Mets Now I'm a Yankee fan. Yeah, I know I hate the Mets. Yeah, it's ridiculous Justin: I do and that's why Giants fans hate the Jets. They do I have and that's the other thing I have giant Giants fan friends and family who despise the Jets and rub it in my face. I don't rub it in their face. When we were in the championship game last year and they were sitting at home, I'd rub it in their face. Jake: In the last three years, the Jets have won more playoff games than the Giants have. Justin: No. Jake: Yes. Justin: Four to three. Thank you. I think they won four this year. Okay, well the same amount. In the last three years... And they won a better one than we did. Jake: I know, but the last... I thought I had to put the math together. I will also say, they're up against... Now maybe even the Giants against... I'm trying to think of an AFSA team, I don't care if they win or not. There are none of those. Well... The Texans? Yeah, the Texans. Giants, Texans. I could have possibly thought, well if the Texans wins, who cares? It doesn't really affect us in any way. And the Giants, we know we're gonna get the, oh we're the best and the Giants and the Jets
01 Jake: suck. But here's the thing, they're up against the evil empire. And the last five days has proven to be one of the most wonderful, wonderful events on the planet. Because watching watching the world collide up there in Boston. Oh, it has been fantastic Awesome like the stories them calling out Brady saying he's no good just L being the scapegoat Walker being the spider fingers the official butter finger the official Justin: Grunk going out and partying the next night which I don't blame that night all whatever I think it was the next night. It was the dance move Cia It was an awful dance, but I don't think that was I think it's like what's this guy partying for cuz he's just finished He's like 22 years old. Yeah, and he just finished an NFL season. Yeah He I'm happy he can detach himself like that. That's healthy probably for him. Yeah, that's a good thing Jake: I was more hoping he slipped and fell and broke the leg, but he clearly wasn't a hundred percent Justin: I mean they barely threw the ball away What's a little bit about the game? The game was awesome. Jake: The game was another great game. Awesome Super Bowl. Justin: It was everything you could ask for. Yeah, that was a really awesome Super Bowl. It had, I mean, it started off with that safety. I mean, that safety, really? First score safety. Fucked us in the boxes because we had a great box. We had a, we had a... rather expensive box right a Jake: Bunch of jelly beans on the line more than 100 jelly beans and a good Justin: 00 box we said there was no box with reverses 8.2% chance of winning and with reverses and reverses Means right same score. So we win again Didn't pan out because the first score was a deuce It worked for me though. Because you won in the- you won in my squares. I won three out of the four quarters in your squares. Because the first and second quarter came out the same. And I won the fourth quarter because Ahmad Brantrow scored that touchdown and then they went for two and didn't get it. And they didn't want to score that touchdown and then they go for two and they like it Jake: didn't even matter I seen the game the highlights, what's your favorite moment? the Justin: the the Jake: Pick your night and your play of the game. Justin: I'm trying to think if I want to go negative or positive because there were some really awesome like That was awesome. Brady Sucks plays and they're really like just amazing Giants like They made some great plays. I'll go positive. That Manningham catch was unreal. Jake: You know, I like that catch. I didn, I didn't think it was that unreal. Justin: I thought it was a good catch. It was an unbelievable throw, unbelievable catch under the circumstances. Jake: So this news that came out today was that Belichick had said in his pre-game stuff, where someone has him on tape saying, Thanks for watching! That's fine. Let him throw with the man in him that he literally said that's fine If they could go to man, and then you know what what are you supposed to say?
00 Justin: They got nicks and crews right what are you supposed to do? And that's that's what you got to do is pick your poison kind of thing and man I am sneaky good like he if crews didn't come up this year. I mean he was yeah He's he's still their number two receiver. It's kind of weird to say but crews Is a slot receiver he's like Walker like you didn't even think of Walker as a number one or even a number two receiver Cuz of where he plays on the field Like Manningham was there outside guy Nick's on one side Manningham on the other and crews somewhere in the middle Jake: And crews happen to have the most yards and all the catches and all the touchdowns but He also had like some plays that like he made a lot of plays, but man. He's a good receiver Justin: He's gonna make some money. He's a free agent. He's gonna get paid. What I was it one him. Nah, okay He's not that good He but he's you know, he's serviceable he's a number two receiver That's what he is manning made him that was just a great great throw that Manning made I mean in under the circumstances. Yeah, what a throw Into a window where only his receiver can catch it and the guy caught it got his feet in bounds Held onto the ball because you know that they were going under that hood and scrutinizing shit out of that like did it move Did it not move? Did he get both feet down in time like the whole like a catch has to you have to catch it for like six days now To catch it weird But yeah, I think that was my favorite play. I mean it was really exciting really good play Jake: I have a couple thoughts on the Super Bowl. I mean, A, What was your play? My play of the game. My other play would have been the safety. Cause I just love like Brady making a mental mistake like that. I think that was, although I didn't really think it was that big of a safety. I, again, I'm not a Brady lover, but I kind of thought, if you sit in the pocket and you wing the ball down the field 30 yards. There's somebody down there. Well, here's what it was a guy there. Here's what it was and I was off by 20 yards So what is still there? Here's what it was Justin: It was so far overthrown. That's the first way. Wait, just Can he be a bad quarterback? Let me finish he got the same because he's good. No Not right not correct. He got the safety because there was a lineman About to sack him but that happens on every plate. No, it's not about to say no, it doesn't so if you were standing Jake: Let me finish Tim. He was standing there. It's not safety because they're like, oh Tim T. Will always over throws this guy by 20 VRs Justin: It's a safety because he was under duress and he threw the ball in an area where there was literally nobody I didn't wasn't under duress if there wasn't If I'm If he would have been sacked Jake: I know That's why it was a I understand safety rule I just I feel like there's some there's some some some some some some some some some Justin: But it's not a safety rule. It's a grounding rule. I know I know it happened to be a safety
02 Jake: I understand but I think of grounding and I I would change the rule because if you have if you can whip it down the field That's where the receivers are. It's different than if you whip it to the side and there's literally nobody there There's there was a receiver down there. Did he fucking throw overthrow the government down there? Sure Justin: But there was a guy down there. He didn't just overthrow. He overthrew by about 25 to 30 yards a t-bow play Tebow does that every play? No, he doesn't know he doesn't. All right. All right, so I think yeah If there wasn't a guy about to sack him It wouldn't have been a grounding. Like you can do that as long as you're not about to get sacked. All right, all right. I'm going on to my other statement. Go on the other statement. Jake: I'll say the other thing is that, and again, maybe it's because, and I will say, maybe it's because I haven't been a Jets fan for as long as you have. And you know, although I've been a Jets fan for a fucking long time now, but in my life, I'm getting to about 50% of my life. But like, I also don't have giant friends who are dicks. The one giant fan who we know, who is our mutual friend. He's the best Giants fan ever. He's the nicest guy on the planet. So then here's my season, literally my season of Jets and Giants. I went to two Giants home games. So did I. I went to the Atlanta game. I went to a playoffs game. I know. Then I went and saw them against us. and that's it for this video, and I will see you in the next video. Also, and this is I know this is one of those fantasy fantasy things that's stupid, but I had you unmanning I picked them up off the waivers and I kind of wrote them into the playoffs and I was happy with that And so like there started to turn for me It's like I'm not unhappy for this team if this team does well. I'm in this great city. I love this city Yes, are you know is it sucked at what they said and that the guy said in the stadium he goes yeah It's MetLife Stadium, but you guys know whose house it is does that piss me off it does But so does losing and fucking Foxboro so does losing and like all those things pissed me off So like on the scale of pissing me off. It's a small We win, just win baby and all that goes away. We go back next year and we fucking win the Super Bowl, guess what? We'll be the toast of town. We'll be down there with the parades and shit and no one will care. Let's just win. And having Brady and all that collapse is awesome. It's just the best. Having Welker drop balls, having- She all accounts that wasn't Walker's fault. No it was my own times It was not but that's the difference Manningham gets a tough ball to catch catches it and it's good Welcome gets a perfectly thrown ball. Walker gets a tough ball to catch I Watch Poxico catch balls that like nobody in the box goes six foot five Walker's four foot two both his hands After he jumped and spun backwards. I watched Jordy Nelson make that play Justin: I thought Jordy Nelson's also six foot three six foot. It doesn't matter his hands again I thought he should have caught it but by all accounts that wasn't what a purely West walkers fault because The if that was a well-thrown ball
00 Justin: People who were there said it wouldn't have been a touchdown. They said that about the other play that he did. That's a badly thrown ball that your receiver makes a play for you. As opposed to a well-thrown ball that your receiver fucks it up. Jake: Last thought on the Giants season and the Super Bowl, which is I think this really came down to two quarterbacks who when the shit hit the fan, I feel like one of those quarterbacks had receivers who went above and beyond. One of them didn't and if those two if two catches get made right that game is a different game And that's really just to just one or two catches I watched the highlights when I showed all the highlights of all the Giants all the cruise shit You see how many balls crews picked up off his feet to catch like literally Had to go down to his laces and pick them up and to catch them That is not Eli being a great quarterback. That is a great receiver. That's Calvin Johnson making Stafford look good because he goes 45 feet into the air. He does go that high. And he can catch anything. There is something about it. I think we as Jets fans, we as football fans, we have to realize that. A quarterback is made or broken by their receivers and what they can and physically can do. And if they make that extra effort, it makes them look unbelievable. If they don't, it makes them look average. And this game turned down to two great quarterbacks, one who had receivers who made the extra effort. We'll see you next time. two or three times more than the other guy. That's it. That's it. Right? Yeah. And you know what? And the one thing that we have is you had the conversation, I was going to say. I know this is painful for you, but you had to admit that the best quarterback in New York was Eli Manning. Justin: History. three. Jake: Oh, in the history of New York. Oh, that's even worse. All right, cuz he overcame name it. Yeah And two quarter two Super Bowls two rings Justin: I mean name it won a game that by all accounts he shouldn't have won right but 18 But Eli did that four seasons ago and then he did it again and he beat By you know by most people standards he beat one of the best quarterback coach combinations to ever, ever play the game. Jake: As every Jets fan in the world has got to know, that is part of the best piece of this right now is that if the Patriots had won, we would have been considered. I mean, that would be the team to talk about for the next 10 years. Justin: Tom Brady would have been in the greatest quarterback ever situation. Jake: Right. Now what do we get to talk about? Justin: Well now we get to talk about who's the better manning or can they win a game with Giselle as the girlfriend? Yeah, because Bridgette won three. Jake: Right, and we can talk about how they haven't done anything for like seven years. No, they haven't won a Super Bowl in a while. We can talk about the last two years. They still get there though. We'll talk about the last two years, how New York teams have taken up the Patriots in the last two years.
03 Jake: Ha ha ha. That's my spin. Alright, let's talk about winning. The pools some pools Yeah, let's talk about the finals of the jet kingdom pick them. How do we do in the playoffs? Justin: Always doesn't do play it goes right through the whole season. Oh, you're killing me all season. Yeah, but that's not good You anybody I won the whole thing. Well, did anybody else actually go through the whole yes? Look at the I won by I won by a tiebreaker How'd you beat the Arizona Jets fans? Oh good for you Arizona Jets fans sticking in there all season Jake: What could you weigh down there? So way down at the bottom Could you go in my wife who didn't pick for a week and a half and still use you she beat you whatever Whatever last year. Well, I just want to say last year you beat me by one I did and you you royal like that. You were so good. I was way better than you last year This year I dominate you. Domination at its finest. You don't even get to 50%! No, I was hopeful this year. Justin: You literally can't get to 50%. That was a known thing throughout the year I said I don't have a good feel for the picks. Jake: This is a Super Bowl 41-10. Justin: Yeah, that was the Niners beating up on the Chargers right there. You just killed me. Jake: So Steven Peterson, I think you're the Arizona Jets fans team. Good for him. You will get a prize, because I can't give myself a prize. Justin: Ah, good for him. That's pretty awesome. Jake: So email me and I'll get you a prize. Justin: So, in other pool news, I won some box money. Yeah, yeah, yeah. My boxes. We had a little playoff thing where I... It was... I came in third. Yes. You tied for first? Jake: Yes, I actually I deliberately I was good about it. I deliberately Justin: Took a I deliberately made a pick that I knew was a loser like the For example, your your second tiebreak was pick the winner right and without I ended up picking I picked the Pats with the spread the favorite right and then when the tiebreak was pick the winner, I picked the Giants. Yeah. Which is more than the exact opposite. Because I knew the Giants was going to win. Right. No, what I was hoping was I knew that the guys I was tied with, there was a three-way tie in going in and first place, I knew you and the other guy were both picking the Giants. So I went and said, I'm going to pick the Pats and win by myself, or I'm going to come in third and get my money back. Jake: Can we do a little recap of the season? Kingdom. Jack game, pick them. You win. Justin: Uh, fantasy football. Tied. No. No, no. Record. We tied. We played head to head twice, we tied. Record. We both made it to the same point in the playoffs and lost. We tied. Yeah, okay. Total points scored. I'm sure I was right there with you. Jake: Alright, alright. I feel like that's not a tie. Uh... What else what else we go ahead? Yeah, you win playoff a win all right? I win you want you won the season all right
04 Jake: All right, what I'm gonna season Justin: Just news yeah, we got checks news. We got we're not gonna talk about Damn, nope okay fine not we're not gonna talk about the nameth documentary because you didn't watch yet Jake: I'm gonna watch it and then love a jet fan you are Don't have a spiel dude. It's really good. I'm gonna watch it. Yeah, you should watch it. I'll come over here Really? It's very good. Are you gonna do it on TV? Ah, I deleted it Justin: Well, I'm sure I can get on to your you can get it on my HBO go There you go and stream it to my Apple TV. That's right. I'll watch it. It's very good Alright, I like it so homes Jake: So let's talk about who we've because the season has started the whole season kind of started. Yeah, it's all literally like the waivers are happening Yeah, so we kept homes Justin: Well, we haven't kept homes. We've just not cut homes There's difference. I think if we're gonna come you would have cut them. Yeah, he has no value as trading chip at this point because now his 2012 contract was Always gonna be guaranteed, but now his 2013 number is guaranteed So he's he's on the books for about seven and a half and then about eight or eight and a half in the following season Guaranteed money, so you can't really trade them if you cut them sort of just a losing proposition So he'll be back. We did the same thing with with Turner where Turner had like a two million dollar Please forget is it Turner a hunter the right tackle Turner Hunter, whatever. It doesn't fucking matter the guy was awful Just not good. Yeah, he's back supposedly. This is only two million dollars. I don't see why They didn't just let him go and get a new right tackle But you know it is what it is Um, it's Wayne Hunter. It's way not Turner. I asked you right before is that Hunter? I said Hunter you said Turner cuz I wrote down Turner and and In other news plaques go burris wants to be an eagle. So have fun. Yeah, I think I think plaques was a three million dollar Waste of money. I don't think he's waste I think he played pretty decent in some games but disappeared in others. The problem was he's not He's not a number two receiver Jake: He's a specialist right? He's a red zone target I think the other thing that what's now coming out again, you know, the blame game is huge now or still going on Just sort of such a fucking pain in the ass, but it's still going on They're saying that of the cancers in the locker room. He was one of them. He was not Justin: He was not a guest that well. Yeah, I just came out of jail. So let's put that on the docket Jake: And I know who why would you think you feel like almost still like what happened and I had no evidence towards this Well, actually that's not true. 1017 10 never fight 1017. Oh, yeah, I feel like what happened was Holmes is like he's
06 Jake: What's up homes? He's a guy who could go either way if you surround with good people He can be, he can be whatever. But you give him a couple other malcontents, yeah, and then shit goes bad. I feel like him and Plax this year started to become malcontents. And when it didn't go their way, it just got worse and worse and worse. Now Plax is smart enough not to talk to the media and not to get too vocal about it. That's it. Holmes is not so Holmes kind of it came out more about him, but my guess is that that's what happened Justin: That's what the lock home is also more of a prominent figure captain large free agent Signing big splash paid him a lot of money up in the future plaques the one-year guy for three million bucks like a flyer and You know he did he did deliver on what we kind of wanted him to do Like they did become the number one red zone offense in the league. That's what they got him to do. The problem was he couldn't play between the 20s. Right. He wasn't fast enough. Like he just... I don't know. They were just never on the same page. Yeah, it was late. He wasn't quick enough. He wasn't as well off season. He just didn't have his legs because he literally shot it and went to jail for a year and a half. There's a lot to it. I actually feel like he'll be better next year for whomever he plays for because he'll be In football shape. Yeah, well, I'll have played a season He'll go through the offseason stuff like that There's things that you sort of have to do you can't just walk out of a jail cell after two years and be Jake: The person that you were when you haven't really played since 2008. But we had a one year... He's already talking about going to the Eagles, so... Yeah, he's not coming back. He's not coming back. Um... But I think the big news, we aren't the big news yet? Justin: Yeah, let's do the big news. Jake: The big news is what we have been waiting for. I have literally been waiting for for six years. And I have marked in my calendar, I have... Planned triple planned and thought about and I'm gonna use everything in my life to get to it's already done Which is that this is the thing that turns people for me I mean the super was a little bit depressing just not in it. Well, whatever and But this news that came out on Saturday, I was literally walking my dog and it came out and Is that Curtis Martin? It is is a little surprised that he got it and Venice didn't I was well if you if you put if you had made a bet with Me well you lost all your business here, but if you had made a bet with me and said Curtis Martin Jerome Bettis and Bill Parcells, same draft. One of them's gonna make it, two of them are not. I would've bet you every scenario, but I never would've, I would've said that... I would've bet Parcells 100%. Justin: Par... and Bettis? Yeah, it's hard to imagine that... We talked about this. It's hard to imagine that Bettis doesn't make it, Curtis Martin does make it.
01 Justin: It's a little hard to... This was Betis the second of first year. No, they were the same class. Same... So like last year it was Fauq Martin Betis, and it was like Fauq's gonna make it. Yeah, so it's unlikely that these other guys are gonna make it. But then it's tough, and I... you'd think just Betis having won the Super Bowl got the ring. Would have made it yeah, but you know Martin made a Super Bowl. He made an AFC Championship game with the Jets He was the Bring them back, bring them home. I was really surprised by the Parcells thing. I mean who like how do they do this? How do they decide like it's like how do they decide people I think they go who's who's sitting there? I know who's the guy who's the guy who's sitting there and saying yeah Bill Parcells shouldn't be in the hall like how cool Jake: How is that it's an it's not it's not but you know, it's not shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame It's should he be this year And I think there's, I think like anything, this is politics and well, here's what's interesting about this year. This year is a, and I know you're gonna say they're not no names, but for the average person, Justin: this is a no name class. Cortez Kennedy, Dolan, I mean, how does, how does Chris Carter not make it this year if Dolan and Cortez Kennedy are? Jake: That's all about like what they want to project. I mean again, it's a group of 50, I think it's 50 people. I think it's 25 or 50, something like that. And they literally. Justin: I think it's like 40, 50, something like that. Jake: But they're, they, it's like they're the group of, the guild of whatever. They control the situation. I think that there's, they want. It's just weird to me that Parcels isn't like an automatic. But maybe, maybe, this is just theory, maybe they did this because they now, Parcels can be the guy who enters. It occurs. Curtis and if they were both in the same class they could have entered each other. Yeah, you can't do that. Why? Justin: Anyway, they would have let's not talk about parcells Let's talk about this weird to me though If you think about part just for a minute parcells because he was a jet coach and he turned the jets around Yes, he did. Hey, basically just Out of nowhere. We were one in 15 and then we were winners like immediately. I seem to do that everywhere And if you look at his coaching tree, it's incredible. Yes the guys who came out of the parcells tree It's like you say Bellchek's the greatest coach ever. Well, you know what? He was he was a bill guy. I know forever Coughlin like Two guys who coached just now in the Super Bowl. We're both assistants, but I know I again Jake: I don't think it's about they don't they're not saying is this guy in the Hall of Fame ever They're saying this year. Well that's stupid. No, I- No it is. It's dumb. Sometimes they think about something they have done or where they are in their career and they think he's not ready to go in yet.
05 Jake: That's stupid. Oh, I don't care. Why are we talking about this? Justin: Cause I think it's a big- I think the snub is bigger than anything. It's like how do you, in your right mind, not put this guy in the hall of fame? He will be! Well that's... no you can't say that because he didn't make it. He will. Why? Jake: I guarantee you he will be. Is Chris Carter? Yeah, Chris Carter eventually. That's stupid. There's guys who wait for many years. That's ridiculous. But that's why there's a thing about it. It's like why did Ed Sable have to wait until he's almost dead to go into the Hall of Fame? Why couldn't he enjoy that for the last 20 years? That's a yellow jacket. Let's talk about Curtis Martin. Justin: Okay, he made this the Hall of Fame. He made the Hall of Fame. Jake: It's awesome. I booked my tickets immediately. I've literally been waiting. I've had it since he retired. I said okay five years from now I put it my calendar. I put it 2011 because I thought it was gonna happen last year I moved it this year and I'm like okay 2012 going so there's a couple things There's no one else in that class so that place is gonna be a Jets. It's gonna be a Jets Bonanza of the people who remember the people who are still have money to go to that game, whatever, it's gonna be a huge, huge chess party and it made the Super Bowl even better because he came out and the coin flipped like he did do the coin toss. He is my favorite Martin. There is something, he is not only a guy who carried us and did awesome amazing stuff and I know people say he wasn't a breakaway guy and whatever it doesn't, he'll give a shit. He is the most he has the most class of any player to ever play the game and I can't wait to sit there and cheer him on as he goes in and gets the highest honor that there is in the NFL. Yeah it's gonna be cool. It's gonna be great. And and I'm gonna say this now I think it's I think it's a sign. What does that mean? I think it's a sign. I hope so. I think it's a sign of the start of a new thing. I think that that Pertus Martin starting the season our entire season I hope that the Jets is the game that weekend. I don't know if it will be. I can't imagine not being but whatever I'm hoping that that is the start of an incredible season ends up with us being the Super Bowl champions. That will begin. That starts off with one of the greatest jets of all time, one of the classiest guys, one of the hardest workers, resetting. Have we come off of this whole locker room, prima donna bullshit? Hopefully that resets what the jet should be, and that we run the 2012 season like a Curtis Martin season. That's it. Yep. And we get to go to the, then that first game they're gonna fucking do a whole thing. Justin: Oh yeah, they're gonna do a pretty cool thing for my imagination. Curtis Martin Day. Everyone's gonna curse Martin Doll. I'll be wearing my Curtis Martin jersey. I have. Which I have. I have a signed one. You can't wear that. You can't wear that. No. I'll probably get another one. Ah. No signed ones. Speaking of the Hall of Fame. Yep. There's been a lot of talk coming out of the Super Bowl. About the Super Bowl winning coach and quarterback being Hall of Famers For some reason been a big narrative around The game like coming out there all like out of nowhere. It's like oh, there's my Hall of Fame quarterback and my Hall of Fame coach
04 Justin: okay, and um I tend to agree. I think they're both now Hall of Fame. Who, Eli and Coughlin? Yeah, I think so. Jake: I think two each. I don't like when they connect them because I think that it's like, I don't know, like you are who you are. Justin: Yeah, well Coughlin stood on his own and now that he's won two, I mean they happen to be together. Their two Super Bowl wins happen to have been together. But Coughlin did a real good job with the expansion Jaguars. Has done a really great job with the Giants and Eli's been the quarterback. He won two Super Bowls now It's beaten and it's who he's beaten. That's also adds to it. It's like a big like that. That first one was huge getting beating the Patriots and beating Patriots again now. I think that's a big deal to beat who they beat. I think they probably both make the Hall of Fame. Unless Eli just is done. Like he just shits the bed completely. Jake: I can't imagine. And I think you would still get in from the merits that he had. He has just, you know, we talk about Brady and like, when he won his first three... Everybody immediately said he's got many more to go. I think that he doesn't have as many more to go as he thinks that everybody thought he did, but I honestly think that Eli has the bet. I think at this point, I know everybody's gonna think I'm crazy. I think Eli has a better chance of winning the next one than Brady. I think Brady is now at a point where it's like, A, Eli's many years younger, like at least three or four years younger. Justin: Eli's a lot more years younger. He's 31. Jake: I feel like he's just hitting his stride where I feel like Brady hit his stride four years ago. Justin: All right, Eli's 31. Statistically, I don't know if that's even true. His birthday's, he just turned 31. His birthday's in January. So he's 31 for the next bunch of seasons. Yeah. He's 31 for the next season. Well he's 31 for the next season, sorry. Let me play a little game with you. Jake: Alright, oh I love the stats game. Let's do it and then we'll wrap up our podcast. Justin: I'm the biggest defender of Mark Sanchez in the history of the universe. Jake: So let me set this up because we've had a conversation, again the Giants fan that we like that's a very nice guy, whatever, that has taken us to games this year that we've enjoyed whatever. For more information on this video, please visit www.mooji.org And we got into a conversation, of course, because we do, after Super Bowl. And the greatest quarterback, good quarterback. I think the thing that bothered me was he wouldn't say, we're talking about Eli, great, going to get Hall of Fame, you know, whatever, whackadoo. But I'm going to talk about Sanchez, and I know this is going to be a Sanchez talk, but he said, he could be a good quarterback. And I took the ball. I'm like, I think he's proven he is a good quarterback. I'm not willing to put the other G there. I'm not willing to put the B there. He's a good quarterback.
00 Jake: Statistically, winning-wise, playoffs, all that. If I compare him to his class, if I compare him to people before him, a year before him or the year after him. he's a good quarterback with lots of upsides. So what I think you were about to say is let's show some stats of what people did. Justin: Well, apparently Mark Sanchez had an awful year in year three. Jake: Well, that was the other thing. Everybody says that he regressed. Justin: He regressed in year three, apparently. No, he did. So. That's what everybody says. That's what everyone says. They went eight and eight. So what I had asked our giant fan friend to do is kindly press the rewind button and go back in time. There is different rewind button. Just hit the button and try, if you can, to think about Eli post year three. Now let me just paint the picture. After year three. See? With the Giants. What did you get one two and three like what happened to him? Well in year one, okay Jake: He played in nine games. Okay, so I I'm like I I have I think it was he did not start They had Kurt Warner got hurt Justin: Got hurt Kind of just like yeah, we have Eli here. We're not gonna go anywhere this year. We're gonna play So we're gonna play played nine games All right. We dropped him number number one overall. We're gonna play right. I think you won one game Okay, all right. I don't I don't have the win-loss records. I just happen to know his second and third year off the top my head I like him, but okay, but his first year as a rookie played in nine games Completed 95 passes meaning about tan a game His rating was 55. This is quarterback rating was 55 So for date year one, whatever year two Oh close that I don't want you seeing okay your two get get out of there not doing it for me you know that I know that the punch line you don't know any punch lines you don't know what's that line I'm gonna get all right um your two I made it what you're trying to prove he made a nice step they went 11 and 5 okay I made the playoffs mm-hmm and they lost in the first round 23 to 0 okay shut up or zero points don't know okay scored zero points doesn't matter Think it was at home. So so is a year two So you're not your second year of your quarterback in your first years of you make the playoffs you know, I'm excited Jake: But he gets shut out can't even score point anyone score point It was also the year that he had the zero rating against Baltimore. No, that was his rookie year a rookie year. Okay, so you're like Okay, well, maybe this all right. We won eleven and five made the playoffs with this guy Next year who improve next year. He'll improve your three is gonna be better, right? They went 8 and 8, they didn't make the playoffs. Oh, not bad. Justin: Worst quarterback in the league. They did so bad. Let me give you a year 3 stat line. Tell me if this is good or not good or what you think. Okay. Alright. Ha! Start all 16 games. That's good. That's good, right. Completion percentage 56%
01 Justin: That's also good. Okay yards 3474 that's okay quarterback rating of 78 26 touchdowns 18 interceptions Jake: That's a lot of it's a good it's good touchdowns. There's a lot of interceptions, but yeah Justin: Those were Mark Sanchez's numbers this year. Jake: Oh, okay. That's surprising. Justin: He also ran for six. So he scored 32 touchdowns. Okay. Rating 78.2. Jake: Yup. Justin: 3 for 3,474. So 3,500 yards. Yup. Let's look at Eli year three. Year three. I'm asking you to please press the rewind button before the two Super Bowl wins and and be able to sort of just... Jake: We get it. Stop at year three. We get it. We're looking at a guy. We're comparing apples to apples. Apples to apples. Both eight and eight. Both New York City teams. That's right. Both third year. Completion percentage, 57.7. Okay, so one Justin: percentage point higher. Yup. Yards, 3244. Less yards. Less yards. 500 less yards than he threw the prior year too. Okay so he regressed. Yeah he regressed. True regression. True regression. Um QB rating 77. Okay a little bit less. Uh actually yeah because Sanchez is 78. Yeah uh 24 touchdowns. Okay less. Less. Jake: 18 interceptions. Same amount. Same amount. But bad ratio. Worst ratio. Worst ratio. Also did not run for 6. No, it didn't. It doesn't run for 6. No. He ran for 0. Yep. Justin: Who had the better season? Year 3. considering who had the better season considering who who in year three could you have said was the better quarterback one guys won four playoff games made the playoffs two out of three years One guy made the playoffs one year and got shut out at home. Jake: Yeah, no, I think you look at both. If you just gave those numbers, and we didn't know, because I knew that you're proving everybody listening knows what you're trying to prove, which is that dudes chill. That's the whole point, which is that this guy who just won two rings in four years who beat the best team in football once who You know, everybody is now saying as an instant hall of famer, year three had worse numbers and did worse and had accomplished less than San.. Sanchez. On a better team. On a better team than Sanchez has already. Sanchez has already accomplished more, has shown more growth, has won more playoff games, has won more games overall. Then this guy, then the guy who we're all saying is the greatest thing ever. So I think we're all saying, you know, every stat proves it. We're not ready yet. Don't turn the sides. Don't go Peyton Manning crazy. We have seen the value in this guy. He has proved he can win. We now need to again. waited out but Kurt Warner, not Kurt Warner, Drew Brees is 11th season he's
02 Jake: being called one of the greatest quarterbacks and he can win any game at his 11th season that's not his third season. Mattie Ice fourth season in the league every during the year everybody's like Mattie Ice you're the shit he has lost us. three playoff games in a row. He has not won one playoff game ever and he had two of them at home. Justin: Yep and I just ask the Giant fans please think about that because they're worse than anybody about like how bad Sanchez is and trust me when Ben Roethlisberger won that Super Bowl in his second year. Eli got shut out in the playoffs Trust me those giant fans were killing themselves for picking taking Eli and not Big Ben, right? Then when Big Ben won his second it was like oh shit. Yeah, we picked the wrong guy Yeah, now they're equal and you know what? I think most people would say you guys better. It's a better all-around quarterback probably They're about equal. I think they're equal. I think Big Ben's better than most people do. Jake: I think he's good. I think he's really good. I think he's tough as nails. I also think he plays on a team that's always been one of the best defenses and won't stop that, right? They're not going to stop being a great defense. So if you're on a team when you have one of the top three defenses every fucking year, I don't care who you are as a quarterback. You're going to do okay. because that's the team. You can be Flacco, you can be whatever, you're gonna do it. We saw that, we know that's gonna happen. You could be Alex Smith, you know, you could be Sanchez. Let's get this defense worked out again, let's get the offense worked back to something. and let's look back in year seven and see how many rings we have. Hopefully it's more than one. Hopefully we've been there once. Alright so let's talk about coming up next. I don't want to be there. If we're gonna be there we gotta win it. Justin: I just want to be in the game. Jake: We have the draft coming up, the free and seed coming up, or free and seed, the draft. We're gonna try to do one a week, but maybe doing one every other week. So I don't think we need one a week unless something happens. No, there's gonna be news. Here's the thing. It's a 24 hour news cycle. By next week, there's gonna be something to talk about. We had a lot, because we kind of had a backup over two weeks to talk about. And we had the Super Bowl. Right, but next week, there's gonna be stuff. There's gonna be like news that happen and we can get on and travel. There's gonna be lots of Peyton Manning news. Whatever, we're gonna get on talk about it. If this is just news, we'll get on talk. If not, we'll see you when it doesn't happen. Stay tuned, that's why you go to JetKingdom.com, that's why you subscribe on iTunes.
