11 Justin: are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Jake: Welcome to Jet King Podcast. Longest Running Podcast on the entire interweb. My name is Jake. It's not the longest running podcast. Yes it is. Longest Running Jets podcast. Well that's good enough. Longest Running Jets podcast on the entire interweb. That's what I said. Okay. Go back and listen to that. You didn't say Jets. Joining me. What about us? Last week we actually left in our little fighting before the podcast. I won't leave. I'll leave in this part because this is actually part of the podcast. But I'm not gonna put our pre fights into it anymore. No more even though we had one Well, he didn't even have a free fight this week. We've had fights about this tour wall this week and we'll have them again right now, so Joining me I'm Jake and joining me as clearly because he can't shut up is Justin Justin. I do it. I'm doing fine Justin: I mean, I always feel better when you read the copy that I write for you. I am Professional broadcaster, I write copy, I need you to read it. Read the prompter. Your copy is Boush. He will read anything that's on the prompter. That's pretty much true. Romberg indeed. We don't have a prompter. Jake: I'm Romberg indeed. I'm Romberg indeed. So we have an agenda today. We'll talk about the Super Bowl. Talk about some Jets news and then actually come up and figure out who won the jet kingdom jet kingdom pick them and who's gonna get a prize Talk about that the end don't make any predictions But we also we can make a prediction Well, let's get to it. Let's talk about Super Bowl first. Okay, I have some other stuff. We got some tweets So let's talk about Super Bowl yeah and God, it does feel like that was a long time ago, doesn't it? Justin: Yeah, I mean it wasn't even a week ago, but it was pretty awesome. Who did you pick to win? Who did I pick at the beginning of the season or who did I pick right before the game? Jake: No, right before the game. When you had all the facts. Pittsburgh. Who won? Green Bay. It's an interesting thing about this game. I was hedging. Yeah. You were trying to... I was hedging, so I could have been right either way. But if you'd gone with Green Bay, then you would have been... the thing you kind of destroyed your own. I hedged. But if you hadn't of hedged, you would've looked really smart. Like that you picked them to win the Super Bowl to begin the season and then you picked them at the end of the season because that's your pick. Should've stuck with them. Yeah. But I did hedge. Dumb. So you get kind of half credit but then when you had all the facts you didn't actually think that your original pick was good. Justin: Yeah. Jake: That's kind of stupid. What are you going to do? Yeah, I'm going to call you stupid. Okay. So anyway, um. Well, I'm going to do a quick review of the Super Bowl. Justin: My day started out, as it always does on Super Bowl Sunday, with the annual Polar Bear Club out in Long Beach, New York.
02 Justin: Which is where I live, where I lay my head. Want to get out of your dress, then come talk to me about it. Long Beach is a long enough beach that no one knows exactly where, but every year since I've been living there. I mean you are a six-time black man, so it'll be hard to find out there. very, very hard to hide. As I do every year, I head out to the beach, down in a specific spot, sort of in the middle of the boardwalk, right sort of where the train comes in, it's called Riverside, and I jump in the ocean with hundreds of thousands of other people. Yeah, there's always at least, I would... I mean at least 2,000 people there. How many actually jump in the water? Probably close to 1,000 people. So this is the Super Bowl, your Super Bowl thing. Pre-Super Bowl, every year. It's happened since 99. I've been doing it personally since... Oh, five? Jake: Question. Yeah. Have the Jets won the Super Bowl? You to be doing no stop doing it the Giants stop stop doing it that was actually a Justin: big year when the Giants were in the Super Bowl I mean that was probably the biggest year was also sort of warm a lot of people went out and did it that day but what are you gonna do it's it's something that happens it's for the Make-A-Wish Foundation it's pretty awesome pretty fun so you thought the Jake: Steelers are gonna win win going into the game I thought the Steelers were going to win the game yes okay explain to me why they lost And why you were wrong? Justin: They lost because of a couple of missed opportunities and a couple bad turnovers. I think they lost the turnover battle 3-0. You're going to lose the game essentially when you lose the turnover battle 3-0. So, Roethlisberger. through two picks had the, had, and the Mendenhall fumble was a pretty bad fumble. But the early pick six that Rothisberger threw to go down in the whole 14-0, that's tough to come back from. And then, you know, the Mendenhall fumble was pretty difficult as well, because it gave Green Bay a short. field so the turnovers was one big factor and then I think there were two there's one play and one decision that that that were other big factors in why Pittsburgh lost there was a play I can't remember exactly when it was because because the game is sort of hazy to me now it might have been in the third quarter where where Mike Wallace was wide open for a touchdown passed down the field and Rafflesberger just missed him. Over through him. Over through him or threw it inside when he should have thrown it outside. It was just a bad throw and it's not like he was pressured. He stepped into that throw and just missed Mike Wallace and that would have been a big turning point in the game and then the decision to kick a 52-yard field goal. Jake: I was in a bad decision.
01 Justin: Because the guy kind of stinks. He's not a good kicker. You should be able to kick a 52er in a dome. But he's not a good kicker and in that situation you weigh the risk reward versus missing the field goal versus being able to pin and giving Green Bay a short field versus pinning them and making them go the length of the field. field I would have chosen if I'm the Jets I'm always choosing against a 52 yard field goal pin the guy down under the in inside the 10 and just play field position defenses you know keep get your defense back in the field what have you Jake: their defense wasn't really stopping them I mean they they played well enough I Justin: mean they really did they caused three turns caused three turnovers. I mean they played pretty good considering they had lost Charles Jake: Woodson. I'm talking about, no no no, you said the Steelers should have pinned them because their defense was going to stop them. I'm saying that the Steelers defense wasn't playing that well. Oh the Steelers defense, I'm sorry. They were letting them walk up and down the field. The quarterback had three touchdowns, 302 yards. A lot of that stuff happened late Justin: late and they were giving them short fields so I mean, I would have tried to pin them and get the ball back. That's what I would have tried to done. I wouldn't have tried a 52 yard field goal with this guy who's been cut multiple times. That's true. Being in a stadium with 100,000 people and 80 million people watching and you know that. He's not making that field goal. I would not feel comfortable with new is then Terry would have taken it Jake: Yes, but if it were Nick folk no no Nick folk no no Venturi absolutely he's gonna make the cake but Nick folk absolutely not not gonna make the cake All right, so here's why the packers won and here's why I was right Justin: What I saw in this game... Jake: Because they had Howard Green? No, well yes. Howard Green was a dominant player. No, I just looked at this and I just thought, if you stack them up, offense against... one offense against one defense and one defense against... I just thought that the Aaron Rodgers is a better... quarterback and we'll talk about that in a second like where does he rank in the world of quarterbacks you know because it once once a quarterback wins a Super Bowl trophy you have to kind of always reshuffle the deck and see does they you know do they get anywhere it's clearly something would have happened to Rothenberg he won I just thought that the Packers were playing you know they have a good good enough offense. I didn't know they'd lose three players or two players during the game and they have a good defense and I thought that the Steelers really didn't. Like, yes, they had a really great defense throughout the year but their offense has been off and on and I just thought that I thought the defense, I thought the way this game stacked up, I liked the way the Packers were playing especially the way they're playing the last couple games. They were taking the two people And, you know... I think the tail of this tape is a close one.
00 Jake: If you watched it, it fell close. But if you look at the score, they got out to a 14-point lead and never let the other team get ahead. Nope. It was cut to three, but it doesn't matter. The Steelers never had the lead in that game, except for when the game started, when it was 0-0. It's not exactly a lead. But that's the point. That game, I think, is much more one-sided than the history we'll show it as. And then people want it to be closed because that makes for a good TV. Also, a lot, I think it was either counted four or five drops. Drops. Lots of drops that were touchdown drops. Two were touchdown drops. So you could have been like, this could have been a blowout. Like, this could have put the Steelers into a, we have to pass. And I don't think they would have... They've done, you know, they would have done well if they were just sitting there winning it down the field. Well, they were. I mean, they didn't run the ball that effectively. Justin: The Packers have just such an incredible ball control passing game. It's like a, it's, they have quick slants and they don't, they only ran the ball like 10, 12. They don't run the ball. I mean, they didn't even have to. They do enough. Even at the end of the game when they were running out the clock, they didn't run the ball. They still threw down the field. That would crush the- Jake: shit out of me. Oh, well that's the problem. But that is the problem about they talk about like what do you get from the Super Bowl that you then everybody tries to emulate the next year. I don't think anybody's gonna move away from the run game because the run game is still very I don't like the run you put up the pass or whatever there's still a very good reason to have a good run game and to be able to pound it down someone it tires down the other defense tremendously if you can run run on them. and it eats up a shit ton of clock. Passing doesn't eat up enough more. Well, Steelers had the ball longer than Grieve had the ball. Yeah, because they were running more effectively. But that didn't mean victory for them. No, well, victory for them was taken away by, you know, you could say one interception for a touchdown, if you took away that, they would have been much more close, the unit. And the men in all fumbles was. big one. So turnovers big. Eric Rod, Aaron Rodgers. Aaron Rodgers. Super Bowl MVP agree? Justin: Yeah. Who else are you going to give it to? Yeah, when there's no, I mean he did throw over 300 yards three touchdowns and he owned receptions and essentially when there's no like you're looking for a reason to not give it to the quarterback essentially when you're looking at the Super Bowl MVP you're saying okay why shouldn't I give it to the quarterback okay no other reason good winning quarterback gets it right that's it that's kind of the way and I think he got it more for his Jake: playoff performance as a whole that when they look and they weren't saying this is his performance because it was good but again lots of drops him in the last those three games leading up to this game was really good and so yeah he was phenomenal all playoffs the whole playoffs he was really good it really reminded me well I'll talk about this so so okay so Howard Green want to talk about Howard Green? I was the MVP. I don't know two things two kind of jets that you want to interject the Jets into the Super Bowl one is Howard Green who was
03 Jake: cut by the Jets in the middle season and went and played on the Packers actually the week that we went to play the Packers, he was picked up by the Packers. He started this game. He started the game and he played pretty well. They actually mentioned him on TV, that was fun. They were like, how are we? It's awesome. Justin: I mentioned it very early, as soon as he ran on the field, I said Howard Green starting in the Super Bowl, in green, to man. And the other one is Chris Jenkins' brother, Jake: Little Jank. Little Jank. Don't know his name. He's a big dude though. He's a big dude. Colin Jenkins. Colin. Colin? Colin? They need to re-sign him because I believe he's a free agent. Yeah, well they're talking about will the Jets want him? No, I want his brother to be healthy. Yeah, well that's not gonna happen. Justin: Alright, so you know there's one other name that we could have mentioned for MVP and if you didn't have two other big drops. Drops. Jordan Nelson had an insane game, 140 yards. on nine catches and touchdown. If you would have caught one or two of those other balls and had like 180 yards and two touchdowns, you could have made the argument Jordan Nelson could have won the MVP. Jake: You had a great game. I'll say there's two things that I was surprised at. One was how, well three things. One was how much. how effective the steelers sort of bounce run works and how often that guy would bounce into the middle of the pile everybody go oh get him get him get him they lose contain and then he would bounce out and make 10 yards I was amazed at how many times that worked thinking guys get a guy to contain him on the side like don't let him bounce off for 10 yards Men in Hall was very good at that. That's one. Two is the tackling. The tackling on the Steelers and the attacking on the Packers. Tackling on the Packers was exceptional. I mean, they literally, mostly passing, but they were just, if a guy touched you, you were going down. And I'd say the opposite on the Steelers. There were times when you're just watching people get zipped by and get one hand on them or not, you know, like that one run. Like he kind of zipped it in and out and people were like, oh, I got you. Oh no, I got you. I got you, I got you, you reminded me of the Seahawks last run. Oh, I got you too! So those were my thoughts. Those were some great thoughts. Thanks for the thoughts. And so let's talk about, let's do the annual restacking of the quarterbacks. I want to hear... your top five quarterbacks in order from one to five or from five to one from one to five and really where and where five to one five to one and where what does matter give me whatever you want and where Aaron Rodgers now sits sure well first of all questions does he does it change his status now yeah it Justin: does yeah it definitely changed his status for me um So going from five to one to add some tension to this. Five is Big Ben. Four is Roger. And Roger is... bit better. So I really think Big Ben is a really good quarterback. I just think
03 Justin: Roger's two rules. He has two. He has two into three. Into three. That's fine. I'm putting Jake: Rogers ahead of him. So the guys won like five play-up games versus like nine. Just played a head-to-head game. They didn't play each other. Oh they did. They just played each other. No, they didn't Justin: basketball to each other. They played the defense. That's great but one had a phenomenal game and the other played like crap. So right now I'm saying Big Ben's behind Aaron Rodgers 5-4. 3's Breeze, 2's Manning, and 1 is Mr. Brady. Jake: I knew you loved those Patriots. The only thing I disagree with is Breeze. I don't see where you disagree. Breeze is a phenomenal quarterback. I think I would put, I think I would actually go, no I actually agree with you on the first one too. I put Manning, Brady, I think Rogers has to go three and then I think you got then I think you got Roth's burger and then breeze and and Based on the suitable the same top five just in a different order Well, who else you throw in the contention give me a couple of the names that I want Justin: You can throw Phil Rivers in the contention. Nope sucks in the playoffs You can throw Mike Vick into the conversation. No, one nothing. You can throw... There's not too many others that you can really put in the conversation. There's some guys towards the tail end of their careers, right? Like McNabb, who you can't really... put in there. There's some young up-and-coming guys who you can't put in there just yet like a Josh Freeman like a playoffs. I'm saying these are guys who aren't too young to get into this conversation but might be in the Sanchez Freeman, Sam Bradford. I mean these guys are young up-and-coming guys will be in that conversation hopefully. Tony Romo soon. Tony Romo is probably in the top. Jake: 10. He's in top 10. He gets knocked out this year because he's hurt and people stop thinking about it. Justin: Yeah, but he's still a loser. He never really wins. I mean, he won one playoff game. I mean, he's sort of a loser. I'm struggling to think of other top... flight type quarterbacks that you can throw in that mix. Color's maybe in there. Favre's done. Jake: Okay, if Favre weren't done, would he be in the top five? No. No. No. If it was like five years ago. Well, we're talking about the body of work for an active... Well, okay, five years ago, then Brady shouldn't be in because he hasn't done anything in the last... He just won the unanimous MVP award of the league unanimous Super Bowl win 36 touchdowns and four interceptions Justin: He's lost Jake: Miss he's lost the last three playoff games. He's been in unanimous MVP. So not in the top five Okay, that's this year. You're letting your hatred flow through there and it's silly. I'm sorry. What are you Yoda?
01 Jake: Don't let your hatred flow through. It's just... You're also... Let's be clear, and we'll decide this next year when I actually join into fantasy, because I beat you in playoff fantasy this year. But let's decide next year when I actually get into fantasy, because I think you're a little bit fantasy focused. It's like, what I do... Justin: It's not fantasy focused. His team went 14 and 2 and he carried them, and he's the... He carried them? Did Tom Brady not carry them? He put them on his shoulders? 36 touchdowns, 4 interceptions. I think that's a... fucking incredible year. It's a good year. No, it's an incredible year. It's record setting for most attempts in a row without throwing an interception. Jake: I think Peyton Manning has more 14 win seasons than Mr. Brady. Justin: Mr. Brady has a undefeated season under his belt. I mean, it's stupid to even argue. I think Tom Brady's better, you think Manning's better. I think he's a- You didn't even think Tom Brady's in the top five, which means you're completely jaded. No, I didn't say something. You just did! No, I did not. You just did! Jake: No, I didn't. You did! It's not in the tape. I said- No, we talked about someone else that said he was in the top five. No, you're ridiculous. You're ridiculous. Okay, so there's no one else. So you go- No, I mean, there's other guys, but top five is, I think, pretty clear cut. But I think Breeze is someone that people... that's a one-time winner and he's had a couple of good years. Justin: I think Breeze is pretty damn good. I mean he... Hasselback. Just throwing names out there. Nice castle. Nice castle. Who are you throwing in there? Castle. Jake: Umm... David Garard. No! Young guys. How about, uh, Flacco? Justin: Flacco? Matt Ryan? I mean they can be considered as part of the conversation. Jake: 15 there are certainly ahead of like Bradford Freeman and Sanchez, but that's a Sanchez to me Sanchez is better record than all those guys in the playoffs He's been the players first two years. I mean for stats wise again you you talk about winning Well, it's like let's get away from is it winning or is it winning with your team? Justin: A lot of people say that blacko has the most wins of any quarterback ever to start his first three seasons ever and just as many playoff wins as Sanchez has so yeah yeah I mean yeah how much is that is his career how much that is his Jake: team how much of the Sanchez last year I think Flacco Sanchez are close I think they're whatever they are they're in the you know like two away from each other yeah it's seven and eight or ten in the ninth Justin: Flacco than you have to say Sanchez was certainly carried last year by the defense in the running game. I mean he barely attempted 20 throws a game. Barely. Maybe five picks if he did. That's what I mean. He did exactly what I wanted him to do this year Which was to take the 12 touchdowns and 20 interceptions and completely reverse them. And be better and be a better player and get to Jake: The playoffs again and give us a shot. Yeah, that's it. He's gonna be a good one. I think. Alright, so let's get some Jets news speaking of Sanchez. Yeah. We even have to touch this story. I don't even know about it. All right well there's a dead spin story out there that Sanchez had had sexual relations. I did not have sexual relations with that. Define sexual relations.
05 Jake: Define the word is. Is. It's like on your shirt. That semen is on her dress. Oh. This is an exclusive podcast, I can do that kind of joke. Um, had some relationship with a 17. That's cigar is in her vagina. That's true, it was. That's the past tense of this. Um, so I don't know where to go with this. I've read up on it a little bit. I think it's even like turning, because the age of consent is different in every state. So like they're saying, like in New York, I think age of consent is 17. I should know this stuff. But I don't. But so it's like, it's almost like it's not even illegal. It's just kind of seems. Well first off, how old is Mark Sanchez? He's 24 now. He's 24 now. Justin: He's 24? Yeah, I think he's 20. I was younger than that. Jake: Well, I think maybe the time of this was 23. So 23, 17... It's a couple years. Good. But if I'm 31 dating a 37 year old, 38 year old, you're all yeah. Yeah, it's the 17 factor. If I'm 18 dating an 11 year old, you're like, ooh, you see? It's always where it crosses the line. It's the 17 factor, it's a little... Even 18, you bit. Justin: Oh, 18's a little young. Yeah, 18... Jake: Now the story's about the mother. I don't know, let's find out what happened this time. I don't know what happened. So, I still... Somewhat, he had relations with the 17 year old? Possibly. Possibly? Yes. It's just rumors. It's sort of like there's not pictures. She's good-looking Depends what she looks like to see how wrong it is. No All right, let's talk about Ray Lucas speaking of kicking Ray Lucas is now using Facebook as his way of talking about his addiction to painkillers. Is he currently addicted to painkillers? Because he had that surgery. He was and now he's kicking it with, but he's like blogging about it on Facebook or using Facebook as a way to talk about it. Interesting. Yeah, it's interesting. I don't know if it's a... He had that neck surgery, didn't he? Yeah. Justin: Like... like this season. Oh, he did? Like he was off from SNY for like a number of weeks because he was out getting surgery done. So maybe that's why he was on painkillers. Other big news? A lot of athletes get hooked on that painkillers stuff. The Jake: Titans have requested and been denied the ability to talk to Callahan. Good. Callahan is... Offensive. Justin: line coach. Yeah Callahan is a underrated cog in the wheel of how the Jets run their offense because he's a former head coach in the league. He's a former college head coach, former offensive coordinator under Gruden which is like a similar West Coast style and he's widely regarded as an excellent offensive. offensive line coach across the league. And I imagine that one day when Brian Schottenheimer gets hired as a head coach somewhere, because someone will, Callahan will come along and be his offensive coordinator.
03 Justin: So that means you could potentially be losing a couple guys off the coaching staff that are... important so I like the fact that we're saying no no no no this guy's our guy what do they want to talk to him about being the head coach yeah I mean Titans Jake: so you know the whole flip-flop thing they said like but didn't they hire a head coach or maybe they wanted for us yeah you can't deny someone if they want to go up I don't think you can die someone's want to go up you can only deny if they want to cross Justin: So like I don't think he's not an offensive coordinator now. Jake: Yeah, I don't know. Justin: And he's an offensive line coach. Maybe he's like assistant head coach. Jake: Good, don't talk to him. Other news. Other news. They're talking about franchising David Harris. Sounds like a good move. Yeah, I mean, I think there's 18 different players that are heading into the offseason that the Jets need. to that are gonna become free agents. That's a lot. Justin: It is, I'm sure every other team Jake: is in a similar circumstance. I think probably there's a lot of those, you know, and this brings us to the- We just have high profile guys at high profile positions. It was literally making the ticker on like, it was like the Super Bowl, there was like the NFL news and there was two pieces of news. It was like Super Bowl and like- like the Jets have 18 players. I was like, really? That seems kind of odd. Seems like a lot of teams that have 18 players. Well, right, but starters, I guess. Justin: Oh, they're high profile names and positions, like both starting wide receivers. You're starting middle linebacker on a top tier defense. Jake: So let's talk a little bit about, and again, we're gonna do a weekly podcast. We're gonna keep going. So we don't have to hit every prior, what we wanna keep, because we can talk about that as the week's progress. That's a good one, guys. So let's start it off with I think the big issue about football right now, which is that Justin: There might not be football. Well before just while we're talking about franchise tags and David Harris It was crawling on the bottom line yesterday that that the Colts want to franchise Peyton Manning Oof as opposed to giving him a because his deals up, right? So they want to franchise him. Jake: And the idea is that Brady and company, aren't they waiting to see what happens to... Well Brady has a deal. Oh he designed this deal this year. He got his extension and signed. Right. Justin: You know, the... The... Manning did not. Okay. So he's... Well the Manning's going to be helping them. They want to franchise him. I guess. Because he wants to make the... He wants to make the most money of anyone in the league and... I should. I mean, they, you know, they want to franchise them. Which would give them like $24 million. Jake: Right, but they also don't want to pay them based on the CBA. So let's talk about the CBA. Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NFL and the owners and the Players Union. You know, this is something that's been going on for a year. The basis of this is it was set to come up. Like it should have been negotiated two years ago. The owners agreed to have like a final year of basically going to this disaster mode, disaster recovery mode, where what happened last year with the final four and not having all these provisions and not having a cap.
02 Jake: So like this last year, the year that just happened was based on the owner saying, we don't want to extend this or do anything with it, we're basically going to let it default. But defaulted to something that was supposed to be a poison bill, right? No cap. Of course all the owners, because only 32 of them, got together and said, well, no one's going to push the cap high. Nobody, everybody thought, oh, Jones or whatever is going to go and make $300 million for their cap this year. No one did it. In fact, I don't think anybody went very high. Some owners, as we've heard, have used it as a way to just say, I'm not gonna pay a lot of money and basically spend no money this year, like half, saying, listen, because I know next year is gonna be a shit show, so I'm not gonna put a lot of money into future players. I think the Jets kinda played it smart, like they said, let's get a lot of guys for this year. Well, they also went for it. They went for it. But they're gonna go for it every year. 10 of them all this thing is to reload and go for it. It happened with F.A.R.B. It happened with... His thing is every... And I actually think it's the best theory, which is you should build the base, but every year you gotta put in the new weapons, right? Justin: They have a core... You know, a core... The line. The core guys. Mangle, D-Brick, Sanchez, Rivas. Harris, those are core guys that they're not gonna go Jake: They draft the core and then they bring in the free agents to make it better But just again every year you should be doing that you don't rebuild in three years anymore in the NFL you rebuild in three seasons the posts, you know in the free agency in the in the draft and then in the you know, whatever you can pick up off the streets, the walk-ons. The Howard Greens. The Howard Greens. Who cause pick sixes in the Super Bowl. So here's what's happening to the CBA. I think it's up March. Yeah, March. But the draft is going to happen. The draft is set. So there's not going to not be a draft. Justin: Isn't there like a timeframe for people to be franchised also? you can only franchise somebody up until like end of february or something like that. Jake: I'm sure it is until the CBA is over because once the CBA is over... Justin: No, I think it I think there's like a line in the sand that that gets drawn way like you can do it here and then regardless of CBA or not whether you know whether it was last year or two years ago you can't do it again until... Jake: here. Well, I assume the agreement just doesn't exist anymore. Oh yeah. But so here's what happened. I think, and again, we're not warriors, we don't, we're just giving you the fans perspective. We're just broadcasters. We're just broadcasters. I'm not a broadcaster, I'm just a fan. So the fans perspective is that from the fans perspective, it's just like we don't know what's going to happen, but I understand that even coaches and players cannot talk and cannot be together. I can't Continue as a team after this deadline so starting coaches and players. Yeah, cuz it's a because it splits them up They're no longer in a contract. Where are the coaches? Justin: Are they under contract for the team? Yes, coaches would definitely cap on the team. They're not players Well, let me tell you this from a fans perspective. Yeah, here's my fans perspective. Yeah. Hey greedy fucks get together You're making billions of dollars you suits who own teams you're making billions millions and billions of dollars
04 Justin: Let's go. Fucking gave your shit together. Jake: The other day they had a big meeting. They also announced a proposed plan of a 50-50 split. I don't think we know what the split is today. And again, if we do them, it's my mistake. Justin: Do we even know what they're splitting? Jake: Yeah, they're splitting the proceeds. So like revenues? Yes. Ticket sales? TV deals, merchandise, all that. And what the players are saying is, how can we make it a judgment about what it is we should be splitting or how we should split it if we can't see what the profit of your teams are? Are you making money or not? The owners are saying, hey listen, we're not gonna go split something, we don't make a lot of money or we don't have to make a lot of money. Bullshit. But the other thing is like, why are we changing this up? Do the owners have to tell them what they make? That's their business. Like why do, it's not, they're not public companies. Under the law, they don't have to tell anybody what they make, just like, you know, the owners of whatever private companies don't have to tell you. That's their private thing. So, but the players are saying, well you gotta tell us, each buddy, and sort of let the, you know, let the accounting package out. Justin: It's not, it's not, I mean. you You could say, oh, it's like a regular private company, but it sort of isn't because We don't know what the salary cap is or what the average worker it works at some other private company I mean that it's an odd thing sports where like what private company Facebook for example private company, right? Do we know, you know, all this information about how much their 58th employee makes, you know? Jake: But you wouldn't know, but in public companies you don't know that. You only know. Justin: Yeah, but I'm saying in football you do. It's sort of odd. There's like a publicly known salary cap and everyone's salary is publicly known. It's just such an odd weird thing. I just wish it was more like in a black box and like Just go figure it out and play football because well we the fans are ultimately the ones who get hurt Oh, yeah, we're gonna suffer that we're the ones cuz we're gonna still pay for our fucking season ticket bullshit You're gonna run out some some some garbage Replacement team crap and I'm gonna pay you $120 for a preseason game to watch the New York Knights play against the you know Jake: Texas bullfrogs like I don't I don't want to see that. So interesting note last year when the Jets did the season tickets they said if you sign up this year and pay for whatever you we will start charging you every starting in January we'll start charging you for the tickets and they would do a you could break it out I think whatever six payments January, February, March, April, May, June, right? And they would charge you per, and I actually thought, that's a great plan because A, it splits the tickets up because these are getting expensive, right? Three tickets. And so I'm like, great, that's a great plan. So I've actually been waiting for this big thing to come but there's been no mention of it, which is odd. So it's like they've changed their mind. Justin: So you haven't done your bill essentially. Jake: I haven't got my bill.
00 Justin: Because they don't know if there's going to be gains. So that's good, actually. Because you don't want to be charged money for tickets that you don't know are going to actually exist. Well, they would have to refund them and all that stuff. Sure, but why should you have to pay it? That's true. It's true. Jake: So anyway, some of them are going to have to watch because this podcast is about... the jets and if the jets if this CBA doesn't get re-signed again my prediction is in the July. Let me ask you this. Just in the time the training camp starts to start we might miss like a week of training. Let me ask you this prediction. Yeah. Justin: If there's no agreement and the owners decide we're going with replacement place. You're gonna care, you're gonna watch. Jake: I don't think they can sell tickets to watch not the team. Justin: Well it'll be on TV and it'll be games in that stadium. It'll be the Jets uniform on guys you have no idea who they are. Jake: Panches and fevers. They've had it before. I know what's happening. So would you watch? Justin: It's interesting because... Because I will not. That is my way of saying to the NFL, no. No, you won't. No, I will not. It is not just about the colors on the uniform. Jake: It is about the players that I know and love. Because I actually do believe it's about the colors on the uniform, but... And I've said that before. It's like if someone gets traded to it on the team, yeah I like them or whatever or hate them but they're not a jet. And if they come to the Jets, I'm going to like them because they're a jet. That being said, there is something about the collective group of people that you consider the Jets. And taking three out every year and putting four in. Okay, so you got Jason Taylor and Latania Thompson go Jason Taylor go there But you know there's the people you kind of circle around the the the Sean Green's the Sanchez's the Nick Mangels That you kind of sense is the thing you take them all out Justin: Then it all gone. You know like this brain and you have Jacob Jett Kingdom playing center awesome I mean, I'm not rooting for you. Jake: I don't know, it's a tough one. Yeah, so, I don't know. It's a tough one. I'll have to say. My gut feel is, would I go tailgate and go to the games or whatever? Would I pay tickets? No. Nope, not supporting that. Would I watch them on TV? Not giving the owners money for that shit. Watch them on TV? Justin: No, I don't want their ratings to... I know my watching it doesn't affect ratings because I'm not... I don't have... a blue book or however the fuck they measure it these days but no cuz I don't want I don't want I don't want the owners making money on an inferior product the product is the players and that's it I don't want the owners making their money regardless I guess Jake: I guess yeah, that's just being greedy. That's like saying greedy That's like saying oh, all right. Well, we'll just throw out whatever and it'll be great All right, we gotta wrap this puppy. Yeah, we do
00 Jake: Let's talk about CBA for the rest of the time until we got a draft We will have a draft. Let's get a lawyer. All right. Let's get next time. We'll have a lawyer Come on Let's talk about the jacking to pick them cuz we have a wire We have a winner a surprise winner came from behind at the last moment minute and one No, no Mike Mike one like 152 to 108 Wipe the field with all the way to 108 So he had 152 wins 108 losses 152 108 that's pretty good the next behind that was 141 Wow wipe the floor and beyond that was 135 Justin: What name's next to that? Jake: That was you, and I was at 134, so I lost by one pick. So you lost. By one pick. I won. It's like .0%. I won the money. You don't win any money. I won the money. So we got the Falcon, it looks like the, you know, I dominated over everybody else, which is great. Um, so anyway, Mike, you get a prize, we will figure out what that is and have you pick it. I think what we're going to do is put up a Jakingdom logo store. and then you'll be able to go in and pick anything we'll send it to you. So how's that? That's the winner of Jet Kingdom Pick'Em. We'll see you next year for that. We'll start it up if there is a Pick'Em. But until next week, and we will be back next week with whatever news we can talk about. And as always, Go Jets!
