09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Jake: Welcome to the Jack King podcast. running New York Jets podcast on the entire interweb going into our second set of hundred podcasts this is episode 101 and I'm Jake and joining me across Justin: the Ottoman aisle is Justin. Justin how you doing buddy? In the nice comfortable comfort in? Is that where we are? Jake: recording this from the comfort the comfort in in Foxboro, Mass. Lovely Foxboro, Massachusetts So we are outside the car We went to we parked the car So we're here and we watched a game yesterday, and I think a team one that we know and love Let's talk a little about that game. What's going on, man? Justin: Oh, good question. Way to host. The Janspony Games! They came up here to... Patriot's Land. I'll tell you, there were actually quite a few Janspony fans in the crowd. We were in a section where we were sitting with... I mean it happened to be three people next to us, three people behind us, a couple people in front of us. It was pretty good actually inside the stadium and the Jets played an incredible game. They played the best game that they probably played all season so far. Jake: Yeah, this was close to one of the best games. I mean, let's set up the stage first. So we decided to drive up on Sunday morning, was tweeting out on the way up. Met up with some other Pats fans. My brother's a Pats fan, so we met up with him. And you know. Good thing he's big. He is a good thing he's big. Hey, we'll get to that towards the end of the game. in. But we, you know, we did the tailgate thing in the parking lot, we did the hangout thing. Everyone was very friendly, I would say, in the parking lot and all that. Everybody around us, a little razzing here and there, but not a big deal. Everyone was friendly when the packs were 14 and 2. And don't lose at home, and when the tomber eat doesn't get sacked and doesn't throw interceptions. where the last game they played us was 45.3, everybody was very happy. Justin: I was very happy yelling out 45.3. There were a bunch of F-E-E-T, feet, feet, feet, chants on the line. Jake: They're obsessed with the feet. That's the one thing I would not have predicted is that the entire Patriot Nation seemed absolutely obsessed with that piece of news. Like, he could have gone after a lot of stuff during the season, but that's the one they seemed to like. They had literally cut out cards of feet. Justin: Yeah, they had cut out feet in the stands. they had.
00 Justin: The radio station was there broadcasting and they gave out signs that said defeat the Jets like Incredible that all the focus was on the coach and not on the players I think Rex does that purposely he he takes the attention. He's very brash and he pulls the attention on to him and I mean, not that the pats do this, but the fans focused a lot of their energy and hatred towards Rex, and not really towards what was actually happening on the field. It was sort of odd. Jake: Yeah, it was. But they definitely, the fans were definitely obsessed with that. And I think this is the way Rex wants it. Rex wants the game to be... Because, you know, in some ways he's a bigger guy, he can take it, you know, he's... Justin: He drew the biggest boo when he came on the field. Yeah, it was a good one. Jake: He came on the field, yeah, you were trying to find the bathroom. Yeah, we'll get to that in a minute. Justin: Rex runs on the field before the team, and the place just goes nuts, and they're booing the crap out of him. Then you know they showed a choice few jets on the screen as they came out to get the crowd razz They showed chrome arty and that you know that got people Going cuz he said some stuff about Brady Asshole, he's an asshole. Fuck him. Fuck him. Yeah Jake: Whatever and you know what sorry to say this but backed it up Justin: Yeah, he played pretty well. So I mean I wouldn't have done that if I were him, but hey, that's the Jets style That's what we do and yeah, I don't weigh as into Jake: Okay, let's back up a little bit. I don't think it is the Jets style I think it's camarti style everybody else including Bart Scott even bar Scott the only thing he said was the whole West Walker thing so I think Justin: We didn't really cover this because Mangle did his thing on Twitter with Spygate Yeah, after Wes Walker did. What was actually quite a funny Thing with the with the whole foot and feet Interview which you got benched for yeah, that's weird too. I mean I Jake: I guess, I mean, Belichick, this is going to make you puke a little in your mouth, but it gives me a little respect for Belichick for benching him for that, because that's really not a big infraction. I mean, you know, Braylon Edwards was DUI and we benched him for what, a quarter? And this guy just basically makes a joke, and not even, you know, kind of funny one, but... Maybe because it was off football. Justin: It gave the opponent something to rally around. So Belichick not a big fan of giving the other team billboard material. Jake: And so let's talk about the games. That was sort of the setup. We were in a sort of mezzanine level and... Yes, the bathroom situation there just... Justin: That stadium is shit. Jake: For a new stadium, what a piece of garbage. Yeah, you're gonna get some hate mail on that one, but I... I don't think it's garbage as a stadium. I just feel like they really, really cut corners. And to be noted, even to say that the $1.7 billion at stadium is... But from the parking situation to the ingress and outgress out of that place...
04 Jake: to the bathroom situation, to everything. No escalators. No escalators. To get from one section down is like a nightmare. And it's very cramped. It took 20 minutes to half an hour to go to the bathroom. Justin: I don't know if it's nobody sits because the seats are so tight and uncomfortable. Or nobody sits because the gradation of the. Or they're just good fans. I mean, nobody sits. It's incredible. I think it's a playoff game. It's a divisional round playoff game. To not sit at all. The whole game. Everyone's on their feet. It's pretty cool. Jake: Yeah, that was good. I mean, I like the once, I think the viewing of the game itself was fine. I thought the angle was good. Justin: Yeah, we had a good view, but... The in and out is terrible. The parking situation is a mess. We literally sat in the parking lot for two hours to get out of the gate. Jake: We sat an hour just hanging out afterwards, just chilling with our brother. There were cars going literally nowhere. And there was a car that sat next to us in line to get out. And it was for the entire hour. It was literally like four feet away from us and did not move. Then we got in line and we did that for another 45 minutes. And then once you get out, you're out. Anyway, let's talk about this game because this is, I don't think the game that we, I was discussing this downstairs with a guy in the lobby doing a little, you know, pre-stuff, but you know, if you had talked about the way the Jets have won so far, it seems like we usually get behind, we usually, you know, keep it close, but maybe it's going into half or down by seven or down by three. Other than the field goal to start the game, we were winning this game the whole way through, and as a Jet fan, he was... uncomfortable. Like I almost like being a little bit behind because I trust the team will make it back but having a lead and at some points a big lead I was always like oh my god while I was five minutes left so he'll definitely be able to come back. But yeah let's talk about Brady. What do you think happened to him? Because he was not Brady of old. They clearly prepared for one thing and we Justin: gave him another thing. Jake: What do you think they prepared for because he said that they in the interview after he said they they played a lot of covers That we played against the that we played against the Colts. Well, then why would you prepare for that? Justin: I don't know. Maybe he they were looking at the tape of when they won 45 3 and said Oh, they'll just do the same thing and we'll just kick their ass again. Yeah, because we didn't do that No, we didn't we did that night. That's not what we did. So Reavis played around, you know Jake: I don't know where the snap breakdown was he was covering Justin: He was covering Dion Branch quite a bit, but I think he was for the most part to Brady's right side. But I'm not sure, maybe when we watch it on TV we'll be able to see a little bit better where he was, but it seemed to me he was following Dion Branch around. Jake: Yeah, so the pictures come out, they get a field goal. You know, in some ways, we had that big back and forth in the beginning, right? And you turned to me and you said, we just took their biggest punch, you know, their knockout punch,
01 Jake: and we're still standing, which is a good analogy. You always like the fight analogy, aka man-genie. But, you know, we got that interception, it runs back, he's going to be right there at the 10. And you're like, we got to get this in, we not only do not get in, then we miss a field goal. and you're thinking, oh Jesus, this is not the way a team, like we can't do this, we can't be at the 10 after an interception and not be able to at least pull away some points. But then for some reason, the Patriots couldn't get it going and good old Mr. Sanchez starts to just play a very solid game, not a blow up game, not like a, he's gonna start, you know. throwing the ball left and right down the field he had 194 yards he was 16 for 25. He had a rating of 127.3 that's because he had three touchdowns and zero interceptions but you know 194 it's not a lot of yards if you three touchdowns 194 it's like okay you're not making long drives you know we were or in the air But I'm just, I was stunned. I was stunned from beginning to end, I gotta say. You know, in some ways I kept thinking, is this real? Like we're in Patriots, there's a great team. They have not gotten down in every game this year when they play a home game, they get ahead of you and they stick it to you. They don't let up. And this team just never seemed to be able to get going at all. Justin: Well they had a couple things in the first half, right? They're... Their first drive was a really good drive. They went right down the field, but then Brady threw an interception which he doesn't do right and that Stalled that drive and then they had you know, they had the The the botched fake punt which you know is Kind of another turnover, right? So they don't really turn the ball over very much and they were very sloppy with it They had the interception. They had the botched fake punt And we had two knockdown two balls out and we they got back a couple fumbles that we could have picked up and didn't We on the other hand played an extremely clean game. We did not turn the ball over once. The ball was never even in doubt of being turned over. There was never no fumbles, no close interception or interception drops. There was no, you know, there were no sacks. Sanchez wasn't touched. Jets only had three penalties called against him. I mean they played an extremely clean clean game and and the first half was Was sort of held to that and then the second half, you know, you think all right the Pats are getting the ball to start the half We're up 14-3, you know, maybe we absorb You know at least the field or touch that and they you know, they we trade punting and punting and punting and eventually we give up a touchdown to them at the end of the third quarter which felt like a momentum kind of swinging in the stadium because it was really quiet that it was like quiet and then all of
03 Justin: a sudden they scored this touchdown they get the two-point conversion they make it 14-11 and it's like oh boy here come the Pats holy crap And then, you know, the Jets go kind of right down the field. They had the big catch by Cottrey and Big Run down the sideline. And that set up a really, really nice touchdown pass and catch from Sanchez to Holmes. What a catch. Which is like, it's... Jake: I mean, it's something they clearly practice. It's something that is in the wheelhouse, right? You know that that's a wheelhouse play for San Jones, for Holmes and Sanchez that's like, okay, corner fade route, go. And they just know where to put it, know where to get it. Unbelievable, puts his feet down. That guy is clutch. I will say he's dropped more passes this year than I thought he was gonna drop. And there are some passes that I did that a little bit bounced out his hands. And some balls. Yeah, but. He does come up clutch. I mean it does feel like you know the end of the day and I will the other play I mean, let's let's go ahead and pick up plays the game. All right Justin: I mean that was you know that that put us back up 10 momentum back on our side after I thought oh boy Here come the pats and then the pats run this really odd Drive where they held the ball for eight minutes in the fourth quarter and did not score a point The weirdest thing everyone in the stadium is like what are you they're yelling at them? Like, what are you doing? Hurry up. Why are you huddling? Why are you running up the middle for three yards? Why are you passing in for four yards and we're sitting there like keep going keep doing that. Tick tick tick. Yeah And they they burnt off like, you know, eight minutes o'clock and did not score. And there were some odd little tactics that the Jets were throwing around during these drives in the fourth quarter. We should say that the Jets were faking injuries, it seemed. Yeah, Bart Scott certainly faked an injury. Jake: That was ridiculous. He should know that there are millions of people watching you and when you just go- Justin: I mean, it showed up nowhere in the highlights. And I don't know how that- showed up on television if that was caught by anybody, if they showed real play. Because he was just walking, staring at him. Yeah, he was just walking and then all of a sudden he just falls. He makes like a spectacle about it, he grabs his knee and makes the trainer come out and sort of stopped the drive. Yeah, they did, I think, three really quick first downs. Yeah, and they were really moving. It should be said that I think that was a little bit of a strategy. And you can't call a penalty on it, right? There's no penalty for thinking injury. No, he's hurt. But I mean, it was so clear. He just is walking and then all of a sudden he just falls. He just collapses and holds his knee and then he walks off the field and he's ready to come back in on the next one. Jake: Yeah, I'm a Jets homer and that was no good. I just, I don't know. That was a Bela check. I've seen it happen. Justin: That was a Bela check strategy. I said that and the guy in front of us looked at me like I'm gonna punch you in the face
02 Jake: Yeah, yeah, there were a couple people around us that you know There's one guy trying to pass 20 bucks at the beginning game 20 dollars. Come on, let's go right now You should have at the end of the game and I'll tell you he was not even at 7 3 or 14 3 Justin: He was like 20 bucks. We'll win 20 bucks 20 bucks. Yeah But anyway, so the Jets won. They had the on-side kick chance, they recovered, Kromarti runs it down, that set up at the touchdown, which really sort of sealed the deal. Good victory. Yeah. Very fun victory. Jake: Awesome road trip. We're going to head back right now. But I can't wait to listen to about three and a half hours of Series NFL radio as they... breakdown everything. I wish they had serious jets radio. I wish they did. That's what this is. This is serious. All right so give me your... give me your play of the game. Give you play of my night first. Yeah give me your Justin: night and play of the game. Or play of the game. So they're both coming on defense. Okay good. Good. I'll go offense. Because I think the defense really won the game. I think it's played well but defense won this game. My night of the game is good old Sean Ellis. Oh yeah, no doubt. Because Brady was sacked five times and Ellis was a big part of it. He had two of them. And it set the tone early that we're going to get to you and we're going to hit you and we're going to sack you. Jake: This was a team that, you know, a lot of the speculation all week was like, should they do, should they try to pressure him, should they not try to pressure him? It was, I mean, you know, if, if... If Rex Ryan's a mixologist, it was the perfect mix of enough pressure, enough playing back, they played zone a lot, but then they got to him. Five sacks is a lot! It is. Brady, this is like... I don't even know. I'd love to know another game where he's been sacked five times. Justin: Yeah. And my play of the game is the... by another guy who should be sort of the co-knight is the David Harris interception because it really changed I know it's really early on but the packs were moving and that changed the whole complexion of the of the game the momentum shift even though we didn't score which we should have And even though after the fact we were still down three nothing after it Or because the Pats went down and scored a field goal That play sort of said you know what Brady we're gonna sack you and we're gonna pick you off and you're This this whole 45 three is bullshit and we're here to play so that's my night the Jake: It was 40 yards behind them. I mean that guy caught up to him. Wait, I don't know I want some conditioning out of you Harris next time you touch you make that testing because that could have been I mean not
02 Jake: But it needs to knock up well But that was a, you know, would have been a bigger knock it up. Well, considering you left with zero points on that. Justin: How was also I mean, you had a really good game. You had 12 tackles. Jake: I'm going to give it to I'm going to give my, um, my night of the game to the guy who I think, again, it's funny because when they talk about this team, whenever we talk about this team, it's always Rex and this is his thing. I like that it's Rex is the defense is Bart Scott. is that what almost went unheard of in this game is that this little kid who's a second year quarterback who's now won four road playoff games in his second year who has now gone and beat the dragon, one of the best teams in football, two of the best quarterbacks in football, gone up against them on the road in their house and You know, I would say in the indie game, he did not perform 100% during the hat. This was like almost a flawless game for him. Three touchdowns, 127 rating. He's clutch. The kids clutch. Marc Sanchez like, we're not, this is, the Jets aren't known for their quarterback play. But without him, his performance in weak. You know, whatever, when we played them before, 45-30, he was throwing, he threw three interceptions. And here he is back. I love this kid's ability to come back. I love the way he's playing when it's go time, you know, in that stupid commercial they keep playing. So yeah, Mark Sanchez, you get my night. You have a point here? Justin: I saw a stat, or heard a stat on... Sports center this morning when I was watching that Mark Sanchez with his four road playoff victories already has as much Road playoff victories as Dan Marino and Brett Favre combined Wow Is that ridiculous? Jake: That is ridiculous. I don't know if that's... I mean, it's probably true because those teams... Well, I mean, I've heard it on sports centers. It's gotta be true. It's gotta be true. I just think it should not go... It should be talked about a lot and hopefully in the next week, you know, and hopefully... And regardless of what happens next week, you know, hopefully everybody talks about this kid has played... God forbid we get one of these home, we get a fucking home play. I'm like, I want the district. Somebody on this podcast said we don't want that. It's true. Someone said, and not only that, but your Super Bowl prediction is still in question. Justin: Still alive. Jake: Which is what's done and done. Justin: A legitimate one. But before you get to your play of the game, I had another point to say, how unfair is it that the Jets beat Peyton Manning on the road? Tom Brady on the road and we still have to go through Ben Roethlisberger on the road. The three best quarterbacks in the league. The three best quarterbacks in the league. Top three top five that's for sure. Let's say the three top five playoff quarterbacks. And winners. Jake: Well Manning's not really a top playoff clear. He's been in the playoffs a ton. He's been to two Super Bowls. He's one one Super Bowl. Oh he's got a losing record in the playoffs. Yeah but he's not, that's not saying that he's not a good playoff quarterback.
02 Jake: Still Manning. You could so like you know Brady and Roethlisberger win Ann Rogers a great quarterback and he's up and coming But his playoff record win is not as good I think he's two and one Um so You know to go against Roethlisberger who's won two Super Bowls, Brady who's won three Super Bowls Justin: Nine and two are some ridiculous Jake: He's two and one and he's two and one the AFC Championship so like he has a winning record in the AFC Championship So that's not even like that's a crazy stat right there to be you know, it's like that It's like me nab reverse like man can't always get to the nfc but you know never got beyond besides one. So Anyway, unbelievable. Yeah unfair. But here we got a game that's coming up. We're not gonna talk about that game today I'm gonna make my play the game. My play game is the uh, the braille nettlers touchdown Because again, I've been watching a lot of the old playoff games from last year and watching Braylon Edwards miss balls and not catch them in the end zone. And watching that guy take a ball with two receivers and use what... Well, again, I don't think we talk about Braylon Edwards enough as just a big, strong guy. He's a lanky guy. He can jump with the ball. But... Wolf him just going from five yards out and saying no I'm gonna get in that it that you know I'm gonna turn into a running back now and you're not gonna be able to pull me down I'm going into the end zone. Fuck you and just pull himself into the end zone. That kind of stuff is awesome You know you get sort of the clutch hands on one side and clutch speed and then you hide some big motherfucker Who's just gonna get the ball and I don't care who you are. Fuck you McCordie. I'm going in Love that so I'm giving that's my play the game that that that watch that highlight again this morning or the 17 times We've seen today. That's the highlight that I keep going unbelievable So Sanchez and then the Braille and Edwards touchdown unbelievable game So I'm just a little little bit right now. We're gonna we're gonna not talk about this upcoming week today We're gonna leave that till Thursday. We'll come back and we'll talk about that game the upcoming game, but we could talk a little bit about the other game that happened. We looked at two games, three games that happened this week. Justin: We could talk about the Pats fans being probably the sorest losers in the world. Jake: Okay, let's talk a little bit about that. Justin: They are the sorest losers in the world. Jake: They were pretty bad. Okay, so I've gone on the road a couple times for playoff games. I've liked the Cincinnati fans and you know I will say they were pretty bad. I mean Justin: well So they got sort of the rug pulled out from under him. They're they're 14 and 2 They're the best team in the league and they're one and done for the second straight year Jake: Yeah, this whole mystique of the Brady and the home thing It's like yeah, you haven't lost a regular season game in 25 plays at home But if you lost your last two, if you lost your last two playoff games at home You're like that regular season thing isn't gonna count. They've lost three straight playoff games. Yeah, I've counted the Super Bowl That's kind of like a yeah, it does count but it's like I guess I guess I don't know I don't that is that it's not as important to me as
01 Jake: Because they won the three before that to get to the Super Bowl Justin: So it's like they've lost three straight playoff games. That's true. They have more three straight years Firebell Bell check fire fire Bell check get rid of Brady. Yeah, it's terrible terrible But they were they were really I mean they were like, you know, guys are such a joke Jets are such a joke. Well, this one guy, when we were walking out, he was drunk. And it's like, you're 14 and 3 now, and two of those three are from this joke of a team. That's so true. So what does that say about your team? Jake: It was very hard. And you know I'm a bit of a talker, because I'm on this podcast with you. But. Go to Beadaholique.com for all of your beading supply needs! It was very hard. I almost broke my cardinal rule and turning around a few times. I, you know, and then walking out there was a couple guys just saying stuff and then two guys, you know, or three guys got right up next to me. One guy went on one side of me. I saw this other guy come to the other side and he looked like he wanted to fucking throw me into the snow. He was definitely angling towards it and there was a guy behind me and they were kind of like, they were getting ready to do their jostle thing and... Yeah, that's what I'm thankful for my six foot four brother who wearing a Hannah Jersey I kept making fun of him saying Hannah Montana But who then steps up and goes you don't want to do this and then just they kind of dispersed and I was like, yeah That's good I'll take you to a game anytime buddy Justin: There's some also just some I mean just rude people like Their bathroom situation's pretty bad at the stadium. Jake: Yeah, I have been to, I've had a lot of fans come to my stadium and I've never physically checked people into a wall like we're fucking playing hockey. Justin: Both of us got checked into the wall. Like who checks somebody into the wall? It was like hockey. Yeah, it's like he checks me and then he's just smiling like, haha, I checked you into the wall. Yeah. We'll be right back. They were, they were... Ah, fucker, you just lost. Jake: There was that going on, and then, yeah, some of the chance, some of the chance going in there. I mean, the feet thing, I thought it was kind of cute. I was laughing at it. The Sanchez likes poop on his face was a good chance. The Sanchez likes poop on his face. Yeah, okay. And Sanchez is the child molester. Well, that's not mr. Yeah, I thought that was a good one. I kind of like that was when I was Texting to my wife back at home. I was like, yeah, they're being classy Justin: I'm on the way out the guys were like you guys When you beat us, but Sanchez is like such a weak link Like you have to do something Let's get rid of him He just beat you I played your quarterback you have to rely on him. You're gonna lose but we just We just did and we won. Yeah, we just beat you. You guys got a good D so you'll need to have a quarterback. Jake: Alright, the highlight of this entire trip has been back after the game, sitting here watching whatever the post game show, the Patriots post game show. I don't even know what it's called. Oh, that was great. It's called like, Pat to God or something. Justin: On Nessin or something. Some local sports. And just the...
00 Justin: And these guys are just... They don't they're flabbergasted. You got Troy Brown on the sidelines like yeah empty stadium behind him like I don't know man I don't know just lost and the guys on TV is like he's like all week We've been talking about Sanchez being these socks All we said Sanchez sucks it's a sucks. Why didn't he saw why he's suck Jake: Uh, that might be the, uh, I think that'd be a, that's a nominee for the podcast title. Why didn't he suck? I need some. Um, all right. So that's it. It's going to wrap it. Well, let's talk about the other couple games. All right. Justin: So there were other games, the, the, the rule of 50 50 sort of kept itself intact, right? So the last home rule, whatever amount of years, like the last 20 games or 20 Jake: 22, four games at this point. Justin: The home team in the division round is 12 and 12 so Road team win half the time in this weekend and it happened again this past weekend. So Atlanta gets their butts kicked by Green Bay Green Bay on the road as well. I did not see happening Steelers hold court at home against the Ravens in a really solid game Amazing comeback. I mean We were watching that game where like both of these teams are beatable like neither of them are really that good Like several other than we beat so and you know Pittsburgh Sort of took over in the second half and came back and played really well and then yesterday on on Sunday You know we knew going in that we had to win because the home team held serve, Chicago won, so it was like, alright, the road team has to win. So the Jets took care of business. Jake: So the other thing, six seeds, it's two six seeds are now in the championship, which is kind of interesting. Two six seeds have never won in the championship, so they've never had a Super Bowl with the two six seeds matching. Justin: These are two really good six seeds. Yeah. I mean, greenbaits are really good, and the Jets are pretty good. Jake: I think this is like a, what's interesting is that this is a time when there's divisions, and inside the division there's two really good teams in the division. I mean, the Bears are a good team, the Patriots are a really good team, and so you get, as you look at the playoffs this year versus last year, and... You know, not a lot of swap outs for teams. It's almost the same set of teams all in the playoffs. A little different round, but the Patriots are there. The Ravens were there. The Pittsburghs were there. Jets were there. Pittsburgh wasn't there last year. Sorry, not Pittsburgh. Jets, Indy, Cincy for Pittsburgh is that swap. But that's a lot of the same set of teams. Kansas City and San Diego. Yeah.
