09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. the longest running New York guest podcast on the interwebs. I'm Jake and joining me today for the 100th time ever in the history of the longest running podcast on the interwebs is Justin. Justin, how you doing buddy? I've been looking forward to today since Saturday. At 11? Around 11, 15. So we got- I was ready to go then. We should have just done this right then and then. There was a podcast a while ago. I wouldn't have heard my voice. Like you were screaming? Oh yeah. Really? You're not a screamer. I was yelling when we walked. You're more of a pillow biter. That's not nice. Not a screamer. I was yelling and I had a bottle of Jack Daniels. And it was awesome. Wow, we like did different roles. I was sitting quietly in my chair. My wife passed out beside me, like on the couch. I was sitting in the Jets chair watching. I was afraid to move. I literally was afraid to change my hat. I was afraid to do anything. Anyway, let's talk about this game. Well, first of all, it's congratulations. Congratulations, man. Congratulations to me. 100 episodes. Oh, that's pretty cool. That's a lot of episodes. It is a lot of episodes. Thank you everybody. Yeah, thanks everybody else for listening to us and thank us for giving stuff to you to listen to Yeah, alrighty awesome All right, so crazy wildcard weekend Let's just talk about the game First of all first of all I watched the recap of this game at least three times I'm obsessed by rewatching it. You are a little obsessed. I love it. Let's throw some stats out there. Let's throw some stats because I want to start our reviews now with a little bit of stats. So we should open up the box score is what you're saying. Yeah well you know sometimes you're like so uh are we talking stats this game or like jet stats? No I stats this game. Oh, alright. No? Well, I mean, there's some pretty cool things that have happened. Talk about it then. Well, I mean, it's pretty cool that we beat Peyton Manning and he's now 9 and 10 in his career in the playoffs. That's cool. Which is why every time we talk about this, I always say Brady's better than Manning. But that's just me. Uh, the Jets... Because he has a better... He has a better... Well, this is the thing that... This is really different. ...playoff records and better overall quarterback rating in... in their whole careers, maybe it's better than any. I don't like the playoff record too much because basically if you get to the playoffs and unless you win the Super Bowl, you're gonna end up with at least one loss
00 Jake: every time you get there. So if you, it's like McNabb, I'm sure he has a horrible playoff record because he got to the playoffs a lot, but almost- I got it. It's not horrible. I bet you it is. They made the NFC Championship game like five times. Think about it. That means they won more than they lost. I don't know. I just don't like it because if you win the Super Bowl you get a great record for that year but then if you get there a lot, here's the thing. You want to be playing meaningful games. You want to be over 500. You want to be at least 3-1 like Mark Sanchez. Well that's a thing. Let's talk about that for a second. I mean it's hard. It's almost things to talk about. All on the road. it. That's impressive. Yeah, three and one in the playoffs for a second year quarter Because there any is there any doubt at this point that this guy is the real deal? Is there any doubt only from haters? I mean seriously he didn't even play good, but he played well at the end of the game he His first half was awful was horrible. It's horrible. So anyway, let's throw some stats out for him Well, you have more stats more jet stats. They're not that meaningful Whatever. Well that the Jets are through the Jets are Now through two and one or three and one against the Colts in the playoffs It's three and one all-time or two and one against Manning. Yeah, three and one all-time So Yale's talking about Sanchez 18 for 31 Geez, 189 yards you think for 31 is actually not too terrible. You think we lost this game 189 yards Well, no you look at you look at the fact that the Jets ran the ball for a buck 69 and controlled the clock 33 minutes 27 minutes and I think the Colts only had like two second half drives I think so with both ending in field goals pretty phenomenal stuff this is not what we predicted although I think it is the perfect game against the Colts which is all you want to do is makes it make Peyton sit on the side and be frustrated drive the ball down and Whenever they drive down make him get the field goal or try to keep the field goal They you know don't let him score types down. Don't let the big play happen Although of course, we got the big play happen one day play one big play surprised by how many third and ones we stopped I was very surprised. I was surprised with the whole thing I think it was Blitzing crap's just not gonna work. Let's cover people. We don't have the players. We don't have the players to blitz So it's like we could throw seven defensive backs out there and blitz the shit out and then he would have had three tests Well, that's what what happened was every time they threw you know like a Marquis Cole out there as as a linebacker and You know if two linemen and Marquis Cole on the line Manning checks out and runs for a third and seven first down. Justin: 39 and 80 ran for a first down. Jake: Because there's a defensive back, or a cornerback standing there playing defensive end. It's like, all right, I'm gonna run at you. Let's do some surprising things. Were you surprised by anything in the game? Besides the win. I mean, I thought the Jets had a good shot, but going to the game, I was not super confident that, I guess I didn't know how bad the running defense of the Colts was.
00 Jake: I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. Because they've been getting better. It's not, it hadn't been that bad over the last month of the season. They had stopped some pretty good running backs. Maurice Jones-Drew, Chris Johnson, they held all these guys to like under 50 yards. They had actually played, you know, Dyer McFadden. They had played really well down the stretch as far as run defense was concerned. But the Jets came out and said, we're going to run the ball. And apparently resting. LT and resting Sean Green in that last game against the Bills was a smart move. I mean Joe McKnight wasn't even active in this game. He was a ghosted by the way. He wasn't even wearing uniforms. I imagine that'll change. It's just a cult matchup thing. I was surprised by the fact that they had so many third and ones and every time they had third and one they threw the ball and they didn't make I don't think any of them. They think the cults. The cults. Third and one they're throwing. Third and one they're throwing. Third and one they're throwing. And they don't have... I mean, we knew that the middle of the field was gonna be the key. And, you know, Tammy and White is not Clark and Collie. Which is clear. I mean, he's missing those two guys. I mean, aside from that, I don't know. I mean, we didn't get very much pressure on him. The Reggie Wayne being shut down did not surprise me. I thought Reavis would shut him down and that did happen. That's not even a shutdown. That's like, that's a dis... That gives case to the Reavis Island being, you know, the idea that you go to an island that you disappear on. One catch. One yard. One a... One look. Well that's Peyton. That's Peyton going. One attempt. That's Peyton going, just nothing open over there. And I don't know how many times he looked, because I don't have a stat on how many times Peyton checked to see whether he had something available. Today Reggie Wayne's going, I was, why I even suit up? Which. By the way, no good for a wide receiver, calling that out in the press. But what did Peyton see? Okay, Rebus is good, but other people have thrown at Rebus and at least gotten an 18-yarder or a 10-yarder. I mean, it's not like he literally went for nothing. Nothing. Yeah. I mean, there was only one attempt. thrown his way. It was like, it was like right that left side of the field didn't exist. It was weird and the one catch was for one yard and Reavis tackled him. So it was like, it was like they didn't even really try. I was, I was... Imagine we had two Reavises, I'm just saying. So we tried to do a Cromartie. Hey. He's not two Reavises. Awesome. didn't hit some of his things and he's a free agent so maybe we'll just sign him up. But anyway this season's still going. I was surprised that we you know I felt I felt a victory. I was surprised at the end of the game that that we got it to a manageable field goal. I thought
01 Jake: that, alright, we got the return, that's great. We, you know, we were able to get the ball down to whatever it was, the 30 yard line. And I think in the past, maybe not under Rex, but under other coaches, we would have ran the ball up the middle and tried a 48 yard field goal in the playoffs to try and tie the game. Well, that's what makes this game even more amazing, is that they came back and shot and had a... said, you call it kid, which I don't know if that's good for Schottenheimer just being like, I trust you, or he's like, well, whatever. If he doesn't do it, then I'm going to throw him under the bus. But he basically told Sanchez, you call this play, you call this play, whatever. Edwards comes back, says, listen, this guy's no match for me. I think it was more of a, he, Schottenheimer called the play, Sanchez didn't like it. So I don't like that play. That's not what I've heard in the 15 interviews. That's what I've seen is there was a play. He didn't like it. Thanks for watching. And then he said, fine, you call it then. And he called, there was like a set of five plays. And he picked the one. It's not like he was like, yeah. No, no, no, no, no, he said, but he said it was up to him to call the play. Edwards told him, I literally can beat this guy every time he's small and I can jump high and he's not recovering very well. I mean, two things on that is one, Edwards was out of bounds. I don't know why the clock kept going. Totally out of bounds. He wasn't even touched. If he'd actually rolled. He would have, he wasn't touched until, he wasn't touched until he. But he landed out. I know. Like two feet in and then land out. I don't know why the clock kept going. And why does Caldwell call that timeout? That is miserable. That's just terrible. It would be burning my retina forever. Peyton on the side, that's before the catch, but he. saved us our timeout to then be able to like calm down call the timeout with three seconds set up the field goal as opposed to having two clocks running clocks running let's get set let's spike the ball for a field goal it was like alright let's just relax for 15 seconds because this idiot called the timeout and he apparently said I wanted to make the Jets snap the ball as many times as they had to snap the ball hoping that they would make them mistake like throw a pick or fumble or that's what he said in the press. He said, you know, watch, has he not watched the games we play that we will this last thing on this game, not last thing, but one of my big things I took away from this game is that all that shit in the book, in the preseason, the postseason or the regular season where we would come back, you know, the Houston game, the lions game, the Denver game, the freaking Browns game like all these games that we like We're either losing or not winning and we came back and we won it. It all just built to this perfect point that happened two days ago, which is that this team believes that they can do it. And that, okay, you're going to give me 53 seconds left to go and I'm only down by two. Good, fine, that's fine. We'll cut down there. We'll do it. It's not a big problem. And I think that the maturity they say oh
02 Jake: They said that last year by the way. I don't like the commentators because they always say the same thing they said the year before. Last year we went on the road. He grew before your eyes. He became a man. He grew up and you're like, so then he grew again this year? No, he had a bad game. He went in the locker room and he came back out and he had a better game when he came out. It wasn't great when he came out. He was still throwing over people's heads. Just people, you know, Edwards had to go 15 feet in the air to catch that ball. and and Edwards had a really good game amazing game. All right, so let's get to a game. Are you other thoughts any thoughts on the game? I mean winning by one field goal. I mean we're When you saw that field goal go up, were you thinking? Oh shit wide right? Is it started out there? But then it came back so great that I couldn't I didn't have enough time Did you have any doubt Vina Terry was making that feelable? You know I did. Really? I had no doubt like fuck we're losing him. No I had a doubt because again watching the last couple years we are things with field goals in the playoffs Yeah that's a good face. He's not missing. That was true but that they said that and whenever the pronounced skater says it oh he's never gonna miss I'm always like I got that. He makes that from like 60. Yeah he could have made that. He's so good. He's so good and you know what he's doing now? Sitting off. Yeah. Yeah. So the Jets win, unbelievable. Let's pick your night and play the game. You know what? I'll even let you pick two nights. Two nights? Yeah, two nights. You're gonna let me pick two nights and go first? Double nights. Wow. I've got literally, I have three players or four players I can pick. Oh wow. I'm glad you let me go first because I'm gonna pick my first guy's Dorell Regis because he played such a good game and whenever like, you know... You never even saw Reggie Wayne. He's one of the top three receivers in the whole game. So if you don't see Reggie Wayne on field even, you don't even have to worry about it, then it just helps out everything else. So Revas gets my night of the game. Whenever you can keep, you know, they only scored one touchdown, the Colts, they only scored 16 points. You know, Manning only threw for 225 in one touchdown and... And one of those plays was 57 yards. So it wasn't on Reavis' side of the field. So I'm going to pick Reavis. And then my other guy, I was going to pick Brelyn Edwards. To pick an offensive and a defensive guy, Edwards made some big catches at big times, made the biggest catch of the game at the end. . and there were a few over the middle that he went up and caught kind of fearlessly so he had a really really good game so I'm gonna pick those two guys as my Knights of the Game. Great picks I will say again I've been watching the last season's playoffs the recaps on it and watching drop balls last year even he dropped one right in the end zone last year in the playoffs and we overcame it this guy has really turned a corner now a guy who's got the shorthand he used to bounce off his head guy now it's
01 Jake: like throw it to Brantland he'll catch it you know I'm glad we're not getting that fools because homes man yeah you what why how do you drop that ball like thankfully the guy runs into the kicker but how do you drop that ball that would that could have been that could have been a very bad situation with more time on the clock and a ball should be catchable it's in your hands you got to make that catch but yeah we're not giving out so what's your play of the game my player game was It's Cromartie's kick return at the end to set up the winning drive because it makes a big difference when you get to start from like the 50. Yeah, he got all the way to I think 47 of our own 47, but their 47. Unbelievable start. He amazing although he gave up one of the biggest plays and the touchdown all he could say it was fool's fault or not Probably chromarties fault, but I Interesting I actually want to bring it up because I know they were discussing a lot again I go to a lot of games So I don't hear the commentary as much so I'm there kind of listening and I like Chris Collins worth like I used to Hate his guts now I kind of like him thought he made some interesting points about Commardee and saying come on. He's a guy when he's up in someone's face you know, jamming him at the line and then following him, he's great. If you drop him back, he doesn't know what to do. And they literally, he would say that and then they'd show up way that made it look very true. So I don't, I don't know if that's something that someone else is picking up on, but it looked to me like whenever Camardi was jamming the guy at the line and following him, he's great. Whenever he tried to drop back, he would get lost. And the guy could just figure out wherever he wasn't going. He didn't have the speed or maybe it was just quickness to keep up with him. So, those are two good. I have two. Two which I think are... And a play? Yeah. Do you have your... You did your play. Let's see. You're a little disheveled today. A little disheveled. A little just, you know, long weekend of football. A lot of football. Watch every game. Every moment. second. First one I'm gonna pick is again just opposing last year in the San Diego game. I'm picking LT. I'm sorry but that guy and I'm gonna actually rock it into my play as well. That that guy looks like something else and it's not just that he runs the ball and gets the touchdown because that was amazing And you know the one we walked in no, isn't touched fine The one where my play the game is actually where he had to punch it and then punch it again and then punch it From the third time to get there That's the kind of stuff that you just don't expect LT at this time is like you expect that to be a Thomas Jones or you know someone else to get there so I give it to LT he's my night of the game he was just not only punching the ball in when we needed to but he's also the release foul and there's a couple plays where one that I hope Sanchez never ever does again in his life we're just kind of whipped it up so who are you don't do that that's
00 Jake: the UI Manning play yeah don't do that because that usually gets picked to run back for touchdown. But he's just the release foul and and he's there and he's and he will catch the ball and then he can make a move and I'm so impressed with this guy was and again watching last year's watching the San Diego game last year is watching the conference afterwards and he's saying sitting there going I don't know what I'm gonna do I'm not gonna be here he looks so just you know pound it out Here he is like a game changer for us. I mean literally a player. And then my second player of the game which you're not going to like, my knight, is uh is Tannenbaum. Yep, think about it. Look at this, look at that team that we just put together and look at who we just beat and then think about all the players on that field and where they came from. So LT, Karmarti, like it's a you could throw in Taylor. I'm missing one other that came in this year. They're like basically that they went out and restocked up that said we need to beat this team. Everybody, oh folk. So those are it. Those three players, LT, Carmarti and folk. Game changers in this game right? One kicked the winning field goal, one had the big run back, and one had two touchdowns. Three people we picked up this year in order to win this game Everybody doubted him for getting rid of feely Everybody doubted him for getting rid of Thomas Jones No one doubted him for getting that from there. Well it's not like, not like, folk is better than J. Feely And that's a silly comment. No, but no, but everybody thought it was a stupid pickup because this is a guy who's washed up and isn't gonna kick anymore And was being dropped by other teams. It didn't really have a very good season. This season? Yeah, this season. He didn't really have a very good season. He had a good enough season when we needed him to have, like, he didn't lose those games. Did he lose those games? Did he lose any games? Did he kick field goals to win games? He might have lost us some games. Which one? Maybe the Green Bay one. We never scored a touchdown. I understand, but we missed field goal. Alright, the point is I'm saying in this game if you gotta give someone credit Giving Mike Tannenbaum credit. I think is not only can you go back and say Sanchez? I'm not giving no GM No credit why because it's not even it's not even the divisional round. Let's win a couple games This is a team that beat us. That's great. They destroyed us last year Let's let's get to the Super Bowl then I'll give Tannenbaum all sorts of credit. I think you gotta give him huge credit Let's get past where we were last year year and then I'll give him the team that he put together. I'll give him some credit after we get past where we went last year. You're a bit of a bitch. I'm just saying. What's your play of the game? My play of the game was the LT touchdown. The one where you had to go for it twice, three times. I just, that's, it's just, I just never, when you said LT's gonna come back, I would have said, okay, we're gonna get a guy who can catch the ball, who can make a move. but he's not going to really pick up a lot of yards. I just never thought you'd be handing the guy handing it to him to punch it in, and he would do it. I would have thought that was someone else, and I'm very impressed with him. So that's my play of the game. And two touchdowns when you keep the other team to only score one, it's good stuff. All right, so this is the play of the game. What about injuries? We actually had an injury in the game.
01 Jake: I haven't heard anything today on it. And that's it for today. Have you about Brad Smith? So pull the groin, then it wasn't groin, then it was a hamstring. Well, he came back into the game, which is good. That is good. Although they didn't have him here. Usually it's like, well, he's warm, so he can come back into the game. Right. And then like you get cold and then it's, well, then it's over. Yeah, it's over. It's done. Um. Thanks for watching! But, I mean, he did return a kick afterwards. After that, obviously he didn't return the last kick off. Krom already got those duties. It was kind of odd. He never gets hurt, so it was like kind of weird. You know, Brad Smith's always in the game somewhere, and running plays, and I'm sure it switched up. some of their game planning on offense. I'm sure that they wanted to run more running plays with him and different plays like you know he did take a snap from under center and just hand the ball off. I'm sure they had more of those. Well, the Colts said they spent an entire day going over sort of the Brad Smith package and that's what that's what happens when you have a guy who can do a lot and sort of can make some plays. If I'm gonna lose them, I mean, you know, I don't know what's gonna happen for the Patriots but... It certainly makes our offense, it takes that one of the chinks out of our offensive weapons when you say, oh well this guy is not, you know, you can't run that package anymore and it's not like we can put someone else in to run the package because it was kind of basically the Brad Smith package, right? Running back, quarterback, kind of hard to see. And then the other thing is the same chance as shoulder. So I don't know if this is a big to-do or not. Again, as a Jets fan, if you're a Jets fan out there and you've been around for more than a few years, shoulder injuries- You're not a Jets fan and you're listening to this. There's something wrong with you. Well, we know of one. But anyway, he posts reviews on our- Oh, got your call. I already forgot his name. When he comes to quarterbacks and shoulder injuries, I'm still twingey about it. So- It did look like in this game that either he was just playing just bad ball But he was overthrowing everybody. I think he was just had some jitters maybe because that that first half He was not throwing the ball. I mean in the second half he was on like nine out of 10 or 10 out of 11. I mean, with a drop from Holmes, there was a hit him in the chest. I mean, he was on everything he was throwing, felt good about, that sort of opened it up, let us run the ball a little bit more. Sean Green had a good game. It was a really well played game. It's hard to win in a place like that when you feel like, oh, we got to play these guys again and we never beat these guys. One neighbor. play their guys. But, you know. The defensive plan was just brilliant. I mean, again, I don't know if that would ever work again, but the plan of just not attacking, and just saying, we're gonna cover you like, that's it, and we're just gonna take away your players. I'm not sure it would have worked if they were healthy. I mean, Clark and Collie are better than Tammy
01 Jake: and Blair White. So, I mean, there's a trust factor with Manning and these guys who he knows. Like, he knows Dallas Clark's gonna be somewhere. Where? Like, he's not even open, but he could throw it there and he knows Clark will go get it. Like, but good game, good weekend. Good weekend to football. It started out Saturday, it was great. Saturday, obviously the Jets at night, that was awesome. But it started off with a wild west shootout and who would have thought the seven... You know the seven and nine Seahawks pull off a victory against the defending Super Bowl champion, New Orleans Saints This guy did you pick that you picked it against the spread pick it was bad So so you're getting like 11 points then at home. Yeah, but wow did the Seahawks come out and play really really well I mean they were down 10 nothing. It was like oh this game's Yeah, and and they were down 17 7 it's like oh, it's over again yeah, and I don't know where they just come with these plays and the little trickery here and there and The play of the playoffs so far with Marshawn Lynch going into into beast mode as as they affectionately call it in Buffalo when Marshawn Lynch goes into beast mode. That's what they call it. That's what they were nine guys I touched him. Yeah, I mean the stiff arm of the century. Yeah takes a guy and That's Porter, the guy who's in the commercials for the interception on Manning last year in the Super Bowl. They sort of clinched the Super Bowl. He took him and said, Super Bowl, shmooper Bowl. And just with one arm holding the ball and the other arm took him and threw him six yards off of him. It was awesome. The thing I saw though that game was, and I think I tweeted at the time, which was... Whoever wins this game is not winning another game. It doesn't, in some ways, doesn't matter. It sort of, you know, Seattle now, because of what happened later on, or the next day, Seattle remains in that, you know, the two spot, which is probably where they wanted to be, so they get to go play Chicago, who they've actually already beaten this year. So it's an interesting match up and we'll get into that when we talk about the match up for next week But moving on to Sunday, I mean the worst game of the the weekend was the Sunday one o'clock Ray Ravens go into Kansas City and just absolutely demolish them It looked like it was gonna be game in the first quarter, you know, can see score to tie down. Charles had some runs man. Charles can run the hell out of the ball. Speaking to Thomas Jones he's out of the playoffs. Charlie Weiss he's out of the pros. So it's like he just checked out before the game. I don't know. Let's run some trick stuff and see what happens. Dwayne Bowe didn't even touch the ball. That's awesome. Castle through for like 60 yards or something like that. The Ravens just were all over the Chiefs. It was it was Too easy for them. Yeah, I think this is this time he had a great game. It's coming weekend We'll talk about when we get to if I think this is insane this weekend
03 Jake: It's gonna be a lot of it's gonna be a lot of come back to come back to the ground stuff because a lot of team beat up on ad teams. Kansas City, which is where I wanted to go the whole time, were not a play. And I wanted to go to a place that we'd known. They played the AFC West, which is their division, which was the worst division in the AFC, and the NFC West, which is the worst division in football, was like their divisions. And they were a last place team, so they had a last place schedule, regardless. So they were just, I mean, their schedule was like fluff. They were not a player. They play who you, they play who you total player. No it's true and you look at strengths of schedule stuff like that you think that doesn't make the Steelers win of four years ago or three years ago when they had to play one of the toughest schedules and then go on the wild card and then win the Super Bowl even better I don't know whatever Arizona didn't have a tough schedule whatever it was three years ago they had a tough schedule. Sometimes you just get the schedule and you rock it. I, you know, truly the divisional stuff is, you know, important if you play in a tough division. Obviously, I think the Seahawks at 79 going into playoffs is just an abomination. I still think it's an abomination. Now they're 8 and 9. A non-winning team getting into the freaking playoffs. But, hosting a game at home. And then yeah, the night game kind of got good. I mean, it was a good game. They did exactly what they basically took the plan from everybody who's played Vic and sort of figured it out this year, which is like they've lost the playbook on. So I remember them saying this three or four years ago when he played in Atlanta saying, well, you got to do this, this, and this, and this is how you control him. And they kind of lost that for the first season, first half of the season. and then teams started to figure it out. pressure a certain side, he's uncomfortable going to one side, he always rolls one way, he basically just got to get some very fast guy on him. And Clay Matthews is fairly fast enough to keep up with him. Yeah, Matthews and Woodson played a heck of a game. Both of my Super Bowl teams are still alive as I chose the Packers to play the Jets in the Super Bowl this year. So I'm still alive. And Aaron Rodgers finally gets his first playoff victory, his first real win. So now maybe calling him great in the echelon of Brady and Manning and Breeze. If he had a couple of receivers that could catch balls too. He has a great receiving core in Green Bay. Those three receivers are as good as any top three. You know what I'm saying, but the drops that that I didn't know the name of the guy with the big go route that just dropped the ball right in his hand would have been another touchdown. Just unbelievable. I don't know how you do that. I know it happens all the time, but just ugh. Yeah, pack. So go pack goal. They're in it. We were rooting for the pack. We have a lot of Packers fans. I was rooting for the pack. Don't know why. Yeah. I was sitting there with the Giants fans, so I couldn't root for the Eagles.
01 Jake: Perfectly happy because I won my starting fantasy football pool because I picked perfectly all four games So yes, I was that mean your fantasy. What do you mean? I have a fancy football pool Fantasy football. Yes, you play you pick every game with the spread. That's not fantasy football. Oh the football pool It's not I'm in a fancy football too. I didn't do I don't know how well I did like 89 points or something But you picked all four games correctly against the spread. Yes, it did. So that means... I caught up one on you. You caught up one on me. Yeah. Because I got three. That's correct. You got four. I picked the Seahawks. Gotcha. All right. Well, that's speaking of what else we got. You want to... Oh, we got a tweet from Gabby Lazon or LazyZup. Never said his name. correctly, Gabby. You said, I thought you said you're gonna do the hundredth episode for the Super Bowl and I thought it was all planned out that way too but we had a couple in the mix where you know we did a couple weeks we did too and it sort of threw the whole thing off so we're doing number 100 right now. Yeah, I guess it would have did it actually wasn't actually going to align Yeah, it really was it wasn't online perfectly We had like three weeks where we did like to know we had a week that we skipped a week Yeah, I'm gonna probably I think we could have made it happen and speaking of that. He says do you think the Jets will make it? It's a little early Let's go one week at a time. So I'm gonna say I'll take I'll put on my home or hand. I'll say course. Absolutely. Yeah, it's a tough road. I mean it's it's beat the Patriots okay fine and then go on the road and beat Baltimore Steelers. So your prize for beating Manning and Brady two weeks in a row, best two quarterbacks of this era on the road, is to then go somewhere else to try and win to make it into the Super Bowl. Yeah, let's go let's go. Have you even listened to the Steelers? It probably would be. Yeah, we're also spurging. I mean, two times Super Bowl winning. You basically have to go through, you have to go through one, two, three, four, five, five Super Bowls. You have to go through a lot of Super Bowls. You have to go through a lot of Super Bowls against the Super Bowl. But you know what? If we got there, I feel like it'd be a cakewalk against whoever's over there on the other side. I'm sorry. I don't care who was on the other side. Anyway. wait. Hopefully we will but let's talk about this next matchup who's gonna be a tough one. All right, so let's move on to The jet Kingdom pick them. All right, where we'll pick all the games It's easy to skip the Jets pads because they are the prime. They are the last game of the The week easy peasy them and squeezy. Yep. So last week you went four for four or four. I went three. I went three for four Yep, so I'm one, I'm three games now behind you. Three games behind me? Three games behind you. I'm within spitting distance. We have four plus two plus one to catch up. Oh, you're not catching me. No, I'm just saying. I'm within spitting distance. Alrighty, let's go. That's why I'm picking the pads this week. Saturday. 430 we have the Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the Baltimore Ravens
04 Jake: Which is by the way another rubberman the better game like of the two games is bookended because the two NFC games The two AFC games are all they're both in division games that have splits. So both teams have split this year you know Pittsburgh is home they are favored by three and a half so Pittsburgh is favored by three and a half this year Baltimore has already won in Pittsburgh 1714 but that was the game that It was Rolfersberger didn't play in, so it was Rolfersberger's last game that he did not play in. And then the next time they played with Baltimore at home, Pittsburgh won 13-10. So these are like, you know, Baltimore won 17-14, Pittsburgh won 13-10. So the fact that that is the case, and they are so close, and it's three and a half. and both of these games are finished by three. Just give me the half, and I'll take Baltimore in this game. Wow. Well, yeah, if Pittsburgh wins, they'll win by three. That's my case. Yeah, I don't know. I don't think Casey's a good enough team, and I thought that there was a while that- Yeah, Casey's the Chiefs. Can't say the Chiefs. What do they have to do with it? Because that's who Baltimore just played. Oh, well, they're 12 and four in the year, 13 and four now. Here's what I'm saying. I just think that there's a- time when the big dogs come out and I think that the Pittsburgh Steelers are gonna beat the fuck out of the Ravens. You really think that? I really think that. The Ravens haven't like gotten the fuck beat out of them all year long. Yeah. I haven't lost by more than like five points all year. I just there's something about the Steelers at home in the playoffs I think they'll win by more than three and a half so I'm gonna pick the Steelers. I mean, they went to... All right, good. I'll pick up a game there. All righty. Um... Saturday night, eight o'clock. Atlanta, by the way, all the home teams are favored this week. Atlanta is favored by only two against Green Bay. I think that's dropping two that started at three yesterday. Interesting. Since I picked Green Bay to be in the Super Bowl, I got to stick with my picks and... stick by the pack so I'm picking the pack. Wow. I'm gonna pick up two on you. I believe in the pack. I could pick up enough on you this week. Go ahead. I dare ya. I know Atlanta's really good at home. I just, here's my problem. Green Bay, they went up against a team that kind of plays a little bit like them very very. pass happy in terms of you know Eagles are not a huge running game they can't just sit there and run it on you if they want so if they want to keep Aaron Rodgers off the field I don't think they could you know they packers defense is
00 Jake: so good I don't know if anyone could really do this but but the Eagles play by big you know big plays and then but big plays allow some time for the next team to come on and the Packers got going. I just don't think that they're gonna be able to keep that going against Atlanta. I think Atlanta has a combination of good running and good passing and a good enough defense. Give them that at-home factor. I'll pick Atlanta. Good. Alright, moving right along. We have the, we have the, probably the worst game on Sunday at one o'clock. Chicago is hosting Seattle and Chicago is giving 10 points to Seattle. Mind you, Seattle has this year gone to Chicago and beaten them 23-20 in that game. You know, the Seahawks played fairly well. They were actually able to run the ball in that game, which is sort of why they were able to beat the Saints, because they were able to run the ball. And I think 10 is just a little too much for the Bears to be giving to anyone, really. So I'm taking the points in Seattle. Because they've already won this game. Like already this year, I feel like... I think tennis is a lot and I don't see Chicago... I mean, Chicago basically played a big defensive game. I think this is going to be low scoring. I think this will be boring from a lot of point of view. I see a lot of field goals in this game. I don't think I'll be watching this game. No, he will not be watching this game. Which is actually, I'm glad that that's the game that's on, like if it were flipped and Atlanta was on the Sunday, I'd be a bit bummed. But yeah, this game, I might be listening to it, or I might be watching it somewhere, but where? We'll talk about that in a moment. But yeah, tends too many. I mean, I guess it's kind of the reverse of what I'm saying. Green Bay but I think 10 points is just too much in the playoffs and it looks like Seattle has got something they don't have home but they've got something that they're gonna go in I think they're gonna lose so I'm gonna pull the I'm gonna pull the I think they're gonna lose but I don't think they're gonna lose by more than 10 points yeah I think they have a puncher shot to win So I mean, you didn't think they have a shot. I think they're going to lose by less than 10 points. I think it could be a feelable type of game. Yeah, definitely. One way or the other. Yeah, win the money. And then the game of the century, the game of the millennium, the game of the whatever's bigger than a millennium, the rubber match. The rubber match, Trojan match. New England Patriots hosting the New York Jets. and giving 8.5 points. It started at nine, it's already dropped 8.5.
01 Jake: Eight and a half's a lot for a playoff game. I mean, I know that they- It's all based on one game. Which you could totally throw out. If we lost that game 10 to three, or 13 to three, or 21 to seven. It'd be like a six. This would be a six, or a five and a half. Something like that. The only reason we gave it 45 to three. Well of course they're gonna, you know, they're gonna say this team's just gonna beat the pants off us. Still different. So, a, we're going. Yeah, so let's check in. This kingdom will be represented. This kingdom will be represented. I got on, I, you know, being the playoff board that I made last year, I went to two playoff games and enjoyed the experience. Even one of them that was lost, but I enjoyed the experience so much. And now that we didn't, you know, take it older and I didn't take my money for the... for the playoff ticket. So I kind of thought, you know what? I'll go to New England. And I haven't been to New England since the last time I was there was the playoff game three years ago or four years ago. The Mangenie. Yeah, the Mangenie playoff game. It was a wildcard round. I've never been. You've never been to New England at all? Never been to that stadium. Have you been to the old stadium? No. Never been to that stadium, that for a football game. I've only been to. you two football stadiums, well three if you count the giant stadiums, for football. Really? Yeah, I've seen the Jets many many times at Giant Stadium and now at the New Meadowlands and I've seen games up in Buffalo. I've seen the Jets play in Buffalo five times and I saw the Redskins play there once. So I've seen six home bills games and and I don't know, maybe close to 75 to 100 Jack games. So all I'm saying is road trip. Yeah, it's gonna be fun. It's gonna be fun, except for, you know, well, a couple things, it is gonna be fun. All right, so let's talk about the game. Again, the last game I was up there, I've been to the Fox, I've been to old Foxborough. It was the game, it was after 9-11. It was the game that Jibrize had knocked out by Mo Lewis. Not Jobe, sorry. Two Bwets, yeah. Two Bwets, yeah. Got knocked out by Mowgli. You mean the game that made New England's fucking decade? And we won! That was the joke, we won that game. Yeah. Well, we lost. Yeah, we lost a lot. And then I was there, and then I went up last year, or two years, or three years ago, whenever it was, we were there in the playoffs. Must have been three or four. It was minty four years ago. Four years ago. When we were the first round of the playoffs, Wild Card, same sort of situation. It was a Sunday, I think it was maybe the one o'clock though, because I think I got going at like four in the morning to drive up there. So I'm excited. I, as a jet homer, you know, motherfucking jet homer, I am trying to get myself to say that we have every chance to win this game and we are going to pound them, but there there is something deep inside me that says It's also trying to convince myself, well, we did a good job this year. Isn't winning in the wildcard just good enough? It's a tough one. But let's talk about the game. I mean, this is a rematch of a team. We beat them once. They beat us once. They destroyed us.
00 Jake: The Patriots, the hottest team in football. No doubt. By the way, who was the hottest team in football last year going into the playoffs? Chargers. They won the last 10 games of the season. They were the highest team of football. They were the Chargers. Just saying. And you know this is the team that seems like they can do no wrong. Tom Bray is an incredible quarterback. Do you think he's the best quarterback ever to play the game? We're playing now. That I've ever seen. Okay well you've ever seen. You're like 10 years old. That's not true. I watched Joe Montana play. I can remember. Um, you know, they, on offense, they're not going to go for the big thing, they're just going to pick you apart. But they can pick you apart with enough weapons that they can get down the field and score 45 on you if they want. They can go down the fields, and they will. They won't do it. It's not like, to me, it's not like playing, you know, Peyton Ware. He'll set up for it. almost They'll move. They'll have a first and ten will go to second and six will go to third and two will go to first and ten which will go to second and four to go to first and ten they'll just keep consistently getting like seven yards of play on you and it's like frustrating like little Danny Woodhead frustration. coming out of the, you know. And the last time we played them, we basically, we got destroyed. I don't think we were ready for it. I think we weren't, we didn't have enough time or analysis of the new Patriots. Like we were playing the old Patriots. Well, the Patriots that had Randy Moss and we beat and then they you know I don't think we had enough tape on this new Thing that they were doing, you know the the whole you know Two three tight end sets the Danny would head out of the backfield the Dion branch being able to run routes I think we'll be a little bit more pair. We obviously have more film to watch than we did then It'll be interesting to see how they match up, like where will Reavis go? Will he go on a receiver or will he go on a side? You know, it's easy against the Colts because Reggie Wayne plays on a side. Right, so he's on a receiver and a side. Right, so it's like, alright, he's going to cover Wayne which means he's on the left side. Alright. Okay, you know Does he cover branch? Does he cover Welker? Where does he go? I think that's almost a thing that It made Peyton's decision making very easy If I don't have to look over there ever Then I literally can do with these other guys I've got I kind of want to see them change it up because If he... I want him to be thrown to, in other words. I want someone to... I want Brady to try, to try to get something's in against Hime and I want to see him pick him. You know, they say, oh, well, the Ravens never gets a lot of picks. Well, the reason they get a lot of picks is because people don't throw to him. Because I know where he is and I don't throw to him. I kind of want to see them mix it up enough.
01 Jake: But I also want... you know, Brady's also a quarterback that doesn't get sacked a lot. And so I want them also to play this. Listen, we know we don't have the personnel to sack people. Just to run, you know, Russian 3, Russian 4. We just can't. We don't have personnel and hopefully in the draft we get some big motherfucker that can just bowl through people. Like Vernon Colston? No. Like his brother. younger brother, okay, burning Molsten. Well I mean that was the point was to get him but whatever it didn't work out. So I'm looking for your key of the game here but I'm feeling like this has got to be a game that the first half against the Colts can't happen because I think the steam could put up more points. And I know this is sad, but I think this team could put up more points than the Colts could. I think they know us better. Without a doubt they can. This team knows us better than the Colts and they're coached by a smarter coach than the Colts. Duh, everyone's coached by a smarter coach than the Colts. That guy's a moron. So then... Peyton Manning coaches the Colts. So then I think that the way I look at this game and if we're going to walk out with the wind out of here. is that first half we can't have the same first half. We can't have a first half where Sanchez is just not on point. He has to, whether it's through game playing, whether it's through having him scripted, I don't know how many, you know, some teams script out their first 15 plays, whatever it is, we gotta get him going fast. Because... We just can't have that can be over because the Patriots will eat us for lunch if we do that so My game plan is a sort of a it's a slow burn I want to see a nice slow good start I think the defense is coming around more almost like the plane Good doesn't that mean like a fast start I don't want to fast start because faster means you're taking risks and you're trying to blow it up I want to see the end of the first if the end of the first half is 10 to 7, 10 to 3, 13 7, 13 3. We're losing all those situations. Outkill very good. Because we're a second half team. We just are. Just something about the team. If you look at all our scoring and stuff, it's like all in the second half. We need to make sure that we don't get trounched so that the second half we can play our game and not their game. What happened in the first one was we were getting trounced, so we got to play their game, which is we're going to have to try to keep up with you. all again. that you were just not the team that can keep up with you know yeah we tried against the Bears but what's your what's your team I want to keep the game control as a slow burn I just want to make sure that we control it enough don't let things get out of hand sounds like you want to run the ball quite a bit I don't know if it's run because I think that they're Bellacic is far enough to go well that's all that's what they do so you know you could see them stacking the box like a nut But it's just my gut. I feel like this game is winnable if we keep it within. Don't get way, way behind.
00 Jake: I just don't, you know, the Eagles can come back in the fourth quarter and score 21 points and then win the game. We're not that type of team. I don't think that's our playoff team. Our playoff team from last year even was, fine, you're ahead of us. 14-7. 14-3. See you next week. I was watching two play again. We were always behind. In fact the one game we lost we were ahead at the half We just got to keep within spinning distance so we can make the play. It's my it's just my feeling my gut What do you think? Two keys, okay, we're gonna have to hit a trick play Somewhere that works when I say hit it. I mean it's got to work So somewhere along the line there's gonna be something some sort of who those tricky jets and they're gonna have to do something Whether it be a not well, whether it be like a fake punt or a I would even consider like a big Brad Smith end around or Brad Smith throws the ball or a... That tossed a strong green ice beer against San Diego. I want to do that again. Or like a a a flea flicker. Something different. You have to do something. And the second thing is the Patriots are the team. where if you can take advantage and you don't, then you're gonna lose. What I mean by that is if the Patriots are the team where if you get the chance to do something, you have to take advantage of it. If you get a fumble recovery at the Patriots 20, you have to score a touchdown. If you, if, if, Thanks for watching! You know, you can't, if you get them in third and 18, you can't get called for, you know, illegal hands to the receiver down the field for five yards and a first down. You've got to take advantage of every little thing that they give you, because they don't give you much, and when you don't, they kill you. So it's like, take advantage of all the little opportunities that you're... You're going to get even the mini ones like I just said a third and 18 situation. Don't touch the receivers. Don't give them that first down. Take what they give you and get the ball back. And again, if you do get an interception or a fumble or a turnover, you've got to score. You've got to do those things. because they do it. They take advantage. How do we stop this little... How we stop the wood head factor, this little guy that seemed to be able to dump it off too, that sort of can skirt behind the line and make, pick up eight, nine, 10 yards, every time he fricking wants to. How do we stop him? I don't know, if I knew the answer to that, wouldn't that be like a defensive coordinator somewhere? We wouldn't be a broadcast. I wouldn't be a broadcaster like you are now. Like I am now. You know, I'd like to say it takes one good David Harris smack to the face. You know, one good shot to just be like, oh, I don't want to go over the middle anymore. You know, one of those, he's tiny, he's like my size. So like, you know, it's not like he's a big dude like, you know,
02 Jake: Ben Jarvis Greenhouse, a big boy. I mean, he'll run over you. What is not running over he's running around you so if you could just square up on him on one of those screens You know you sniff it out you rush and you get him. I mean I would almost be willing to say You know on a it's like first and ten and you You know take a shot at him. You know give up 15 to hit him like I'm all about doing that I take 15 to hit Brady Yeah, I mean just hit him hit him late I don't care if it's like don't do it on like I said third and 20 But on first and ten on you know, New England's on their own 15 Take a shot I'm liking where our defense is now, which is just this last game they just played a very solid away from our tendencies. They played away from Jets tendencies, which is, you know, Bill Chech is going to figure out your tendencies and it's going to make you suffer for them. So it's true. You know, their thing is to take away, you know, Patriots play, to take away the thing that you do the best. So what is it the Jets do the best? They run the ball. So then that's what he's going to try to take away. And then I think he's going to say. and you're Mark Sanchez, you're a second year quarterback, you're in New England, it's gonna be windy, it's gonna be 31 degrees outside. We don't think you have what it's in you to make us pay. They've got two young corners still. One of them's really good. One of them's really good, but I still think he'd be exposed. And this is a chance. I actually, the one that I wanna have happen, this is the person who I think needs to step up in this game. It's a great game. It's frickin' Holmes. Holmes, it's Holmes time, baby. You know this droppin' shit? Tone time. Tone time. Home, tone. I want you to make it fucking play. And all this, those, like we had the shot down the field to Braylon, over his head. None of that can happen. We will not be able to escape. When you gotta take those shots, you gotta make. them but I think we can I think there's a shot that we can certainly they have points and it's not even a fucking so we are we both taking the jet I think we're both taking the jets give me a final score oh I wrote it down in this thing 27 21 so you think we'll win by six points yeah I went 31 20 you think we're gonna win by 11 I think we're gonna get to the second half and we're gonna destroy them yeah like the first game No, we didn't destroy him in the second half. Yeah, we did. First game, we were losing in half. Yeah. I think we're going to get in the second half. And I think it's all going to wind down to being able to play really good D. I think our D is going to play the one of his best. I mean, last game was one of his best. I think it's going to play one of his best. You know who played well? Eric Smith played well. I was going to say, he was well. We didn't mention him. He played really good. He played really well. And they had him all over the place. He is. He is. always this close away from getting a penalty because he hits hard and he hits like he's just that guy's like one second away and he's clearly gotten penalties for it I would think he's our dirtiest player if you had to say who's the dirtiest player on the Jads I mean used to be you know the center but it's
02 Jake: Bart Scott still but dirty Well the other thing is Bart Scott, man, you've been invisible all year. Show up. Show up. It's time to show up. I want to hear your name called on huge fucking plays. The other thing I was thinking was, you know what we haven't done in a while or maybe been successful with? I was watching the San Diego game from last year. That Kerry Road safety blitz where it came in and just knocked him. I want to see that. I wanna see it. Yeah, well we didn't blitz this last game. No, I know. We blitzed. Yeah, but the guy who's been blitzing most recently has been Coleman. Yeah, I think we should send Poole. I think Poole's a good blitzer. We'll send Poole. Alright, so you're picking the Jets? I'm picking the Jets? For the 100th time, we each picked the Jets. 200th time, both of us.
