09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. Longest Running Year Jets Podcasts on the Interwebs. I'm Jake, and joining me across the digital aisle for this time and for 98 other times. My good buddy Justin. Justin, how you doing? Very well. You look grumpy. Little grumpy. Grumpy. I'm happy because we're in the playoffs. So what? We being the Jets. We being the Jets. But you're a little grumpy, I know. Oh. Should we talk about why you're grumpy first or should we leave it to the end? Alright, leave us the end. But I'll be happy during the podcast. Okay. Because you look kind of grumpy. I'm fine. And you've been acting a little grumpy. I'm fine. I'm just saying. I'm fine. A little grumpy. I'm fine. Sleep deprived. I don't know. Oh, is that what it is? A little bit. Okay. Alright, so we've got a big agenda. Talk about the bills game. Talk about any injuries or reverser injuries. are injuries when they come back. And talk about that little thing that starts with a P, ends with an S. Playoffs! And actually some other news, we got two thousand eleven opponents, we could talk a little bit about that. And then we're gonna combine up, we're gonna do a combination because our throne picks are usually about the AFC East. There's only one team in the AFC East. playing in this round of the playoffs and our Jet Kingdom pick them is usually every game with picks but since there's only four games to pick let's just do them all in one so we're doing our Jet Kingdom thrown picks all together as one big wonderful thing maybe that's what we'll call it next year Jet Kingdom thrown picks don't know and we'll give us a K keys that Castle, we'll talk about the greatest review ever, and then we'll wrap it up. So let's get going! And talk about the Builds game. Justin: What game? We were there. We went to the game. We were at the tailgate longer than we were at the game. We left what, end of the third quarter? After the third quarter was over, we decided it was time to leave. Jake: And I will say for most of you know what I talked about the games. I generally don't like leaving the games early. And this one was not a reason that I don't like the jazz, I didn't want to stay and watch the jazz. This was basically, I really wanted to see who the Jets were going to be playing based on what happened in the 4 o'clock games. And so I wanted to go home and watch those games. And I didn't want to be, yeah, that's it. That was the only reason. I was like, let's go home so I can watch the rest of the games. Justin: I just didn't feel like watching third string players play. Jake: It was like, hello, preseason game four. Like, alright, enough. It did feel like a preseason game. Some notables that came with the game. One, the Jets defense against the crappy team looks good. How about that? They didn't even let them score a touchdown offensively.
01 Jake: They scored a defensive touchdown off of our backup quarterback, so whatever. Chan Chan's was not allowed to throw a ball. All right, let's get started with the No at all eight handoffs in a row. I was fine with that You know the whole soul sure sore sore shoulder thing is I? Can't tell if this is was this far from two years ago who kept playing But he was still hurt like or is this just something I can't tell if it's a big deal or not And I'm kind of concerned that where's it gonna go? Is this gonna be a big deal? And then later we're gonna find out he goes for surgery and it's like, oh, well he really was in, you know, he was in huge pain the whole time. Or is this really just a sore shoulder and it didn't really matter and they just didn't want him to even, even have the 1% chance of risk. Plus if you don't drop back to the ball, the chance of being hit is 100% less. If you can drive down the field without throwing the ball then you... should. I hope we can do that this week. What do you think? We'll talk about that later. Alright. Well let's pick a night. Again, not too much of an interesting game. There's nothing really to talk about. Justin: The defense played good against a backup quarterback. A player who we don't really know. Levi Brown, great. Levi Brown or whatever that guy's name is who came in afterwards. Yeah, no good. Great. No good. Who cares? No. Defense, I mean they rested a bunch of guys. Kremartie didn't play. Reeves didn't play, Puat didn't play on defense and there were a couple others that didn't play. On offensive line, they had a first series. Man Gold started, played the first series, left. Same thing for Brandon Moore. So you essentially had three backups on the line the whole time. Still were able to run for like over 200 yards against the Bills. It was a... You know sort of a game that was for the fans to party and have fun and just relax No need to bite the nails nothing going on that really matters Pittsburgh was kicking some butt during the game. So you knew the game wasn't gonna matter We could take the bills but anyway, which is always fun couple things come of it. We haven't gone 11 wins since Jake: 1998, haven't had 11 wins. That's kind of a big thing. Justin: Oh yeah, I think there were 12 and 4 that year. Jake: And that was the year that we went, right? Justin: Yeah, Vinny. Well, we didn't go. We went to the FC Championship. Jake: That's what I'm saying. We went to that game. Well, we know... Everybody that's in this podcast know that we didn't go because they know when the last time we went because it was once. But as I like to say, because I'm a positive guy, I like to say we're underfeeding Super Bowl. No one else in the AFC East is underfeeding Super Bowl. Booyah. 100%. Every time we go on a Super Bowl, we won. Just saying. It's better than being 0 and 4. I think it was only the fourth time in the history of the franchise that they won 11 games, which is pretty good. It's pretty cool, and I think again for a team that was 9-7 last year and kind of squeaked in to this year to have That last week to be like hey, you don't even need to win it and then win it. I like it I like the impression I like moving up I like the rookie quarterback and rookie head coach getting in playoffs twice in a row and on better seasons All the news give me your night and play the game
03 Jake: Night was Brad Smith. He's great game Justin: took like, I don't know, 15, 20 snaps as a quarterback, ran the ball really well. They didn't even kick to him on special teams which led to us getting really good starting field position. So he's a weapon there too. I'll take Brad Smith as my knight of the game and the play of the game, I don't know, there wasn't really a play of the game in my opinion. I mean maybe that's That's Antonio Holmes touchdown catch from Mark Brunel. I'll take that one. Or maybe the Breylin Edwards one. There's a couple decent plays. I mean there's another player out there that could totally get the player in the game that I just chose not to pick because I don't want to pick them. Jake: Really who? Justin: Well Joe McKnight had a great game. Jake: Oh yeah I think we should talk about that. Why we ain't talking about that? Didn't matter. He put up some yards, man. He put up like 158 running. He put up something almost 200 in total. That's not bad. Good, good, good for him. Yeah, great. Not a big Justin: deal. Well, this is the, this is the reason why I... I can't stand people getting mad about Danny Woodhead because honestly that's me. Well that would have been Danny Woodhead there. That would have been his game and you'd be like, oh Danny Woodhead's fucking awesome, he's 150 yards. Whatever. He would have never played the whole year. So it's like, all right, there you go. Here's a guy that we chose over Woodhead and he... The only problem with Woodhead, if you went to Oakland, you wouldn't give a shit. It said he went to New England. Well, Ed went to New England and has helped them win games. Like, well... Yeah, but he would never have played for us. There was no room for him on the roster. Where would you put him? Jake: No, you knocked this guy off. But this guy just ran for a buck fifty-eight. Right, but it's not like we picked up both players at the same time and didn't know Woodhead. We had Woodhead. And then we went and we drafted a guy. Justin: And we had Woodhead and never had him on the team. Right. So why did we keep Woodhead? Because clearly he wasn't going to fit on our team. All right. I don't want to talk about Woodhead. Fuck Woodhead. My point. Fuck you, Woodhead. Jake: Fuck you, Woodhead. My, um, my. play the game would be the Calvin Pace interception. I like it when they get interceptions. It's just something about a big guy who's really not meant to catch the ball, just kinda making a dive and catching the ball. Eh, not a big thing. But I will do, I'll do what I always yell at you and say, I'll break it out and say that Marques Cole. Who? Exactly. Exactly. with his, I think, two interceptions in the game. Pretty good. Nice to know that, at least on our secondary, secondary, third string, who cares who's playing, that there's some playmakers. So I had an interview with him on Sports Night or one of these shows, and it was kind of funny, kind of talking about how he's a better dancer than anybody else on the team.
04 Jake: Just nice to know if someone gets hurt you put in a guy that at least can make at least can pick six because picking six in National Football League game is not entirely easy. So Good on that and we just end up that game by saying we're in the playoffs, baby, and we're going to Indy Let's talk about some injuries kind of injuries Guys coming off injuries, which is good Looks like Damien Woody's gonna play. He's been practicing. He's been tweeting. He's back. He's back. Justin: Eric Smith has been practicing. I'm not sure if he's gonna like... I don't know. Lowry's been playing alright as a safety. He's okay. I wonder what'll happen there. I mean, someone's got a guard Jacob Tammy in this game. So but having him back is good having another guy who actually knows what their Knows the defense and sort of has played it in yep regardless of whether he's good or not Jake: Having guys coming back is good to head a bow on his way back. It's good I don't feel like he's the guy who's gonna make it I'm gonna be the blitzer I feel like he's gonna have one or two plays and then get her again I don't know. It just seems like he gets on the field again Justin: He's a special teamer and like a blitzer. Yeah, so he's got hurt on special teams before so Those guys are coming back. That's good good to get healthy We had that that week last week to let other guys sit and not have to potentially aggravate nagging injuries like Romartian and and revisit hamstring because looks like going into the playoffs Rebus will likely be manned up on Reggie Wayne the whole game yep we're... let's talk about that game and we'll get to it. Well we're up to it. Jake: No actually I want to quickly talk about the 2007 opponents. Aren't we up to the playoffs? I'd like to talk about the 2011 opponents because then we're going to talk about playoffs and picks the whole restaurant. Alright let's talk about the opponents. Let's do it. Justin: Sure, do it. Jake: Huge stuff. We got the Giants at home next year. Justin: Play the NFC East and the AFC West. And then the second place teams from, you know, we'll get Baltimore, we'll get the Jaguars and whoever came in second. No, that's it. Yeah. So, you know, whatever. I like having a home giant game. That'll be fun. Jake: I like having a home giant game and I like having... I do not like going to Oakland though. I'll go into Oakland... Oakland's just the whole traveling the coast to coast thing. It just never didn't we just kill them last year in Oakland. Yeah. Yeah, I Justin: Mean look, hopefully we'll get like, you know, San Diego San Diego's coming to us. I believe yes That'll be like a one o'clock game and in the snow be the sh not out of it Jake: We don't know where in the season I want them weak to That's true, you want them early. You want them early. Should we talk about some of the coaching stuff that's going on? People getting fired? Do you care? There have been quite a few firings.
00 Jake: So, Mangini, gone. You said that would happen. I think I could do that. I predict that. That was right. Tom Cable, gone. Gone out of Oakland. So a team I don't see getting better, by the way. I thought he was doing an okay job. Justin: I thought he was doing a good job. I don't know why they fired him, but whatever. It's crazy to land out there. and it's crazy land. Fox we knew was was gonna be gone from Carolina so he's gone. Yep. Some guys that didn't go gone that maybe could ever should have. Marvin Lewis. Yeah. Still with the Bengals. Signs again and then says immediately Jake: Carson Palmer. is my starting quarterback, no question. Justin: Maybe they'll get rid of Tio and Ocho Cinco and he'll be better. Jake: Yeah, that's just not gonna happen. I mean, yes, they'll probably get rid of those two players. Tio's not coming back, that's already 100%. Ocho, does he have any value? I guess, I don't know where he is in his contract land, but I just think that, you know, I don't know what stats he's looking at. Unless he's looking at the last two weeks, which didn't matter, why would you want him? Why would you say definitely this guy's coming back? Justin: I mean, if you just watch the game, he stinks. Yeah. It's not stats. Jake: I'm sure he meant person. He maybe meant his brother. Justin: Maybe, yeah. Jake: Yeah, he's no good. No good. So I just think that means Cincinnati's not going to be a very good team again next year, but whatever. You can always count them out. Even when they seem to be dominating, they don't dominate. Interesting one today, and I was watching Mike and Mike in the morning, this morning. They're talking about Sprounneau from the Dolphins, and they're saying there's something strange going on now, and I guess it's Dolphins, so it's a little bit of our repertoire here, that for the first time... The dolphins are actively going after coaches before firing their head coach. So they're actively going over there talking to Harborough today. Harball? Harball. He's doing Stanford, yes. Stanford head coach. But they haven't fired the old head coach. So they were taking it on two different levels that I thought was interesting just as a note. One was... Should Harbaugh even be talking to them? Because there's a whole thing about you don't talk to a team unless they have a coach, because that's kind of like bad mojo. Justin: If a team wants to talk to you, you talk to them. Jake: Well, no. You tell them, listen, you would have a head coach. Why would I be talking to you? Justin: Well, he already has a job. Jake: That's different. Then if you're the head coach now, don't you feel like you're spirana? Don't you feel like, what? Like you're? You're sitting in a bar with me, I'm your girlfriend, and you're off talking to that girl over there like, yeah, hold this. If you were my girlfriend, Justin: I would be talking to any of the other females. Jake: Hey, honey, could you just stay here for a second? Yeah, no, no, we're good, we're good, we're together, but yeah, I wanna go talk to that blonde over there. Oh yeah, because we might date. I would do that to you. I just think it's ridiculous. In a minute, in a heartbeat. Fire the guy, you know, fire him if you don't like him. I think it'd be a mistake to fire him, but hey listen if that's what you want to do It is the Parcel's way you come in you build something good
02 Jake: It does well once and then you leave and it falls apart See any one of his teams, okay? All right, let's talk about the playoffs. We are in the playoffs second year in a row and Since we are going to discuss our game I think we have some really good match ups outside of the Seattle game. Justin: All three of the other games are really good games. Our games are really good games. Pretty evenly matched teams, I think. The... Jake: The... Justin: The Baltimore Kansas City game is a pretty good game and the Philly Green Bay game is a really good game. So aside from, you know, Seattle getting into the playoffs and having the Saints go up there and probably destroying them, some good games. I like the way it's shaked out. That has shaken out, that's for sure. Jake: All right, let's talk about let's do it. So again, mostly we would go team by team. And then just do the score for the AFC East, but since we're here and we're only got four games to talk about, let's talk about each one of them, where we think it's happening, who's winning, whether it's going to come to the spread, and what you think the final score is going to be. Four games. Ah, please. I can make that up this week. But you won't. Why could? Well, you could, but you won't. Okay, still doable. Not gonna happen. I will say, go back to your original predictions. Do you know what your original predictions for the season were? You said Jett's... Do you have them written down? They should be somewhere on some... But I think I know I can't remember I know I said ten six I know so they're gonna make one more than they do last year. I think you said 12 and 4. I said 12 and 4 winning the ACEs. Yes, I said getting the wildcard You have the Jets going to the Super Bowl but losing to Green Bay. Yes, you're still kind of in line there Yes, I think I think I have Green Bay Indy and Indy winning Justin: That sucks for you Jake: Yeah, right now it does. I had us losing to the indie like in our official official not in our I'm a homer and jet We're gonna win every Super Bowl that they play in but in the official official I had us losing to indie in the next round. I think Justin: Whatever. We'll pull that up at some point. All right, we'll put it back in in post Let's go to the matchups starting Saturday the worst game Saturday at 430 on NBC. We have New Orleans the defending Super Bowl champions heading to Seattle, the 7 and 9 NFC West division champions. The spread is 10 and a half. Jake: It's been dropping because somewhere else I saw it at 14 and a half and I was like whoa it opened at 10. Looks like it opened at 10 and 10.5. It opened at 10 in other places here and opened at 10 and a half. I put a 7 and a half. Justin: I swore I saw 14 and a half somewhere. It might go up a little bit.
01 Justin: as game time progressed maybe to 11 or 12 but right now it's 10.5 and New Orleans is just far better than Seattle. A couple injuries for New Orleans, their running game, little banged up, Pierre Thomas out, Chris Ivory out, both out for the whole playoffs so it'll be Reggie Boush. And, uh... What could you peer Thomas? And not peer Thomas. And, uh, you know, what's his face? Jones from Julius Jones from the, uh... Ju-jo. Yeah, who was actually dumped by Seattle. So it's an interesting little grudge there for him. Thomas Jones is his brother? Yes, from Notre Dame. Uh, so New Orleans giving 10 and a half. I picked New Orleans. because I just can't see Seattle doing anything in this game. I think they blew their wad last week where that was their playoffs. That was their playoff game. That's it. Jake: I honestly, I honestly struggle with this game. This is the game I went back and forth on back and forth. Is it because of the points? Yeah. All right. Yeah. You think New Orleans is going to win? Definitely no one's going to win. So the points that bother you. It's the 10 and a half in Seattle, possibly crappy weather, it could be a low scoring game. I mean I could think New Orleans could win 21-14. I think it would win 20-10. Still wouldn't cover it. So I kind of think it's going to be one of those games. Again, they play much better at home, they've been blown out, but they've also done good things a couple of times. When they lose, they lose. Yeah, when they lose, they lose badly. So I think they'll stick it in there. I think this is gonna be one of those David Goliath games that just Seattle is sitting up there going, nobody respects us, nobody thinks we can do anything. We're gonna lose, they think we're gonna lose. We were 79, God damn it. We proved our medal. We lost more games than we won this season, but we're in the playoffs hosting. So I think they'll, I think they'll cover. I think they'll lose, but I think they'll cover. Justin: Has one for me. Jake: Well, I will say the only thing about big spreads generally is when a team gets up by 14 points, they generally go into a different type of D that allows the other team to kind of do something and they might give, they might let them go down in score. touchdown and not you know the prevent defense which is prevent you from waiting. Justin: Yeah keep talking to yourself into it. Alright we'll see. Moving right along let's move on to Sunday. We'll save the jet game for last. Yeah let's do it. One o'clock Sunday CBS Baltimore goes to Kansas City and we have another road favorite Baltimore favored by three. Kansas City looked Bad at home last week against Oakland in a game that they kind of needed to win to get a higher seed the three seed In the AFC which actually means something because then you don't have to play the Patriots in round two We should actually go back before we move into these picks. We were a little bit mistaken last week where we
01 Justin: We forgot that the NFL sort of receipts in the second round I don't know what the Jets do. No matter where they would finish. 6th, 5th, whatever. We're playing the Patriots next week if we move on. Jake: Well, we moved on. I think it's because we're the lowest wildcard. Justin: Well, that's what I mean. We're in the 6th 3 spot. Jake: If we beat the 3, we're going to go to the 6th. No. We are the 6th. I know. We're going to go to the 1. Right, even though the three, if they were to win, would go to the two. Justin: So it's not like an NCAA bracket. It recedes itself. Jake: So anyway. I think we'll talk about that in our last segment of this. Justin: Anyway, Baltimore going to Kansas City. Kansas City... We're sorry, Paul. Okay, keep going. Fuck off, Paul. That's for Paul. Bye. Kansas City hosting Baltimore again, Kansas City home dogs, three points. Kansas City look like crap. Charlie Weiss is checked out. He is leaving. He's taking the job at Florida to be their offensive coordinator. Jake: Not a shitty thing to do. I'm sorry, but the season's even over and you've always done it. He'd done this before. Oh yeah, this is his mom. He did to New England. Justin: He left to go to Notre Dame and the Senate coach. How'd that work out for him? The first year or two, it worked out fine. after that not so well I guess he just wants I don't know fewer games whatever he's more so I think he's checked out I don't think he's he's gonna be able to put together the game plan that is necessary to be Baltimore I think Baltimore will be able to run the ball on Kansas City and I think Baltimore will be able to win by three so give me Baltimore Jake: Yeah, I think this is gonna be closer than then well, I guess everything's gonna be about within three I think Baltimore will win and cover But you know, it's interesting. No tell me I have a question for you I have an answer who had more touchdowns this season. Oh, this is kind of giving away Matt Castle or Joe Flacco Justin: Ocasa had a great year. I'm sure he played a much better season than Flacco did. I mean he only threw like what six seven interceptions all year long. Yeah so Mac Jake: has like 27 TDs and Joe Flacco only 25 for the season. You know you look at the stats and like if you if you just looked at the stats you didn't know sort of the team as a whole just looked at sort of their players you go wow looks like the Kansas City is a better team overall. Yeah but their schedule was really Justin: soft. I mean you gotta remember they were not a you know they were not a playoff team last year they were not a second place first place team they played a Jake: third or fourth place schedule. And I think this is where the this is where stats lie and experience wins in that they're gonna go play a team that has experience last two years the third year in a row under their current head coach that they're going to the playoffs it's pretty good. I think that the Experience will win. So I'm calling it. I think they're gonna I think the the
01 Jake: Ravens are gonna win but by Four points, so I think they'll just cover so you're taking Baltimore. I'm taking Baltimore Justin: All right, and then the Sunday marquee matchup is Philly hosting Green Bay Philly favored by two and a half Which makes it sort of see seem like the odds makers think Green Bay might be a little bit of a better team. You know, usually it's the home team gives three, that's the even right there. So if the home team's given two and a half, maybe they want you to pick Philly because they don't think Philly's as good. Vic has supposedly a little bit of a quad injury. He's certainly slowed down over the last two weeks. or so of the season Green Bay's been playing for their life the last couple weeks so they've been playing you know to get into the playoffs their defense is playing phenomenal right now I think it's time for Aaron Rodgers to win a game in the playoffs yeah I mean he's like the best quarterback in the league but he has a one playoff game ever rivers rivers is at least one playoff game He's won playoff games. He's gotten to the championship game before. Has he? Yeah. So... Loser. Oh, he's... sort of. But... I think this is Green Bay's game to lose. They have the defense, they have the speed, they have the offense to play, a big scoring game with Philly. They're getting points They beat him already Give me green bag, you know Jake: I this one was really tough for me because I can't get over the what what what game are we gonna see out there? Are we gonna see the the Eagles and they're sort of where where the other our defense figures figures out Mike Vick and then contains them all game Or we can see the game where Michael Vick just lights you up and does with his feet I will say a couple things and I guess this leads to where I went with it Green Bay has this type of defense that can contain Michael Vick. They have a very fast young You know high motor defense. They don't play with big guys. You sit there and stop you they put a fast guy the Claymaker, Clay Matthews, I mean watching him come up from behind the Giants play, I forgot the runner, was it Jacobs? Was it Jacobs? Just fly up from behind. So he's a guy who's just going to keep playing and playing and playing. So if anybody were to get to Vic, I could see him getting to Vic. Not getting there, but then getting there after the play. And in terms of defense, the Eagles don't have a great defense. They have a young defense. I make a lot of... You know they they like to throw our blitzes at you, but Rodgers are good at that That's what he's good at so I think the matchup goes towards Green Bay You throw a little bit come being home field advantage for Philly But yeah, I just don't know which game you're gonna see so I'm gonna go with Green Bay Because I think they're running the hot hand at this point and Michael Vick hasn't shown much recently and his sort of stats you
06 Jake: know he started off pretty strong doing amazing stuff but then he has been throwing more interceptions been being sacked more and more and you know we talked about next week oh yeah next year going to Philly and I said I if it's late in the season I don't like my vics playing because he just takes too many big hits and just seems to get up in a limp each time it's like I don't You can keep taking those and survive and this is a game where he might take a couple big ones Justin: So yeah, I'm gonna go with green Bay. So you're not catching me this week. That's for sure. So we have two of the same picks Jake: We don't know what the last pick still be a head by only two with with three more. Yeah Justin: Yeah, you lost a week. You walk in imagine. We're picking this one different. Oh, yeah, we are Okay. Game of the Century, Game of the Millennium, Rematch of the Year. Rematch. The marquee match-up. This is the game that NBC chose because NBC had the first and last of these four games to pick. guarantee you anything. See if I'm NBC here's what I would have done before we get to the Jets Colts game. I would have picked the the Eagles Green Bay game right right because then I'm guaranteed to not have the Seattle New Orleans game and I'll take either of the AFC games over that game right so I would have stuck it to Fox but whatever they chose the marquee match up the New York Jets and Rex Ryan versus the Colts and Peyton Manning because that's how it's sort of being built. Can Ryan stop Manning? Well, Ryan will be standing there, his fat ass on the sidelines and it won't be him stopping anybody. So no, Ryan can't stop Manning. It will be the Jets players who stopped Manning and the spread as everyone knows, we're in Indy. The spread is 2.5 in these giving 2.5. It opened at 3, which is interesting. It came down to 2.5. That's just bad. It's odd. I thought it would go up, to be honest, but oh well. It's 2.5. The jets are going in with... knowing that they lost last year, knowing that they were winning at halftime and a big weapon for them at the time, Sean Green, who will hopefully play a big part in this game, got hurt and I think that was a big reason why they couldn't necessarily control the game the way that they were... last year the way they were playing it was, you know, control the game, control the game, Sean Green second half pound you, control the clock. you know, run the ball, run the ball, run the ball. Jake: Thomas Jones came in, couldn't do the same thing. Justin: Couldn't do the same thing. So he was, you know, sort of done by the end of the year. Jake: And then Peyton came in and just played a perfect game. Like the second half. Justin: Just crushed anybody but Reavis. So in the off season, they said, all right, we're gonna play our off season cards to beat the Colts because they picked us apart and we made some moves in the secondary to get better. Obviously picked up Cromart.
00 Justin: So I think you're going to see, you know, Reavis on Wayne and Cromartie on Garcon and make, you know, make Garcon be Cromartie, which I think is a good matchup. I think Cromartie matches up well against Pierre Garcon. Yep. Look at him. Look at him, Pierre Garcon. You know, the The factors that play in is the Colts are running the ball a little bit better. They have Joseph and Di back. So they're running the ball a little bit better. Tammy's played really well as a tight end. And you know, Blair White, the Blair White project has played fairly well over the middle. So it's a matter of sort of stopping that inside Tammy White stuff from the slot and slowing the running game down so that the play action isn't as effective. you know for those slot receiver you know little slants and and skinny posts that they tend to run often with those couple guys because I have a feeling Reavis is gonna do a number on Reggie Wayne he did last year I don't think Manning's smart enough to be like all right screw it I'm going somewhere else Jake: smarter than Phil Rivers who said he could throw them out I'm gonna throw Justin: somewhere else hopefully chromartic and hold up on on garcon because that's a key matchup so you know the the stopping their run and holding garcon to little or no impact is gonna Jake: be pretty key I think so you would call that your key to the castle the key to the castle for me is stopping stopping their running game if they can run on Justin: you then you're sort of screwed but if they if you can slow them down early with the run then it eliminates like second and fours that's trouble against Peyton Manning second and four play action stuff that's trouble like once you let Peyton start play actioning and that stretch play action where you get the whole defense going one way and then he's hitting the tight end over the over the top of the linebackers or which is Jake: exactly it was I'm just off you there because that's exactly our weakness like if we have a weakness it's in it's in that it's like that middle or a twinkie like it's a soft chewy middle like you can just go after it it's like my belly it's like your belly it's soft and chewy so that's my concern I mean clearly you know let's flip the other side of the ball and say this game our defense will have to keep them in check but we're not gonna keep Peyton Manning to 14 points I just don't think we're going to right this is this is gonna more like. the Bears game than it is like the first Patriot game. I think we're gonna need to keep them under 30 and we might need to get more in order to win we'll need to get over them and we'll need to get to about 30. So in order to win we're gonna have to score more points than them. But we're not gonna do that by keeping him from scoring a lot. So your key to the game? My key to the game is that I think on the other side of the ball you know yes we got Camardier to help with the one side I think the other
01 Jake: side where we're were a much different team. San Antonio Homes adds an entire different flavor to this team that was not there last year. And I think you actually mixed that in with Brad Smith, who while was there last year, and actually had a great run back against the first game we played against them, which they didn't really care about, but whatever. He's added a whole new wrinkle that I think they're sitting around not going, how can we start Mark Sanchez? I think they're saying, when they start doing that stuff, how do we stop that? Because it's extremely successful for the Jets. And how do we match up against it and then who are we putting our guys on on their defensive linemen? Justin: The the you know Mathis and free knee brothers They are speed pressures. They want to come up the field and around the edge and and sack you so if you can figure out ways to get little draw plays in behind them or Brad Smith direct snaps, run up the middle type of stuff, that could be pretty effective. Jake: Yeah, so I think that's, my key to this game is just keeping pace. Keeping pace with- Calvary pace? Yeah, well yes, I like Calvary pace. But keeping pace with it. We're gonna- They're gonna throw millions of different looks and we're gonna try to outsmart, you know, Peyton Manning. But at this point, I don't think you can outsmart him. I think you just have to play better than him. I know that's like sort of stupid and smart at the same time, but it's like you can't outsmart the guy. The guy's seen everything. He's seen and against Ryan's defense, he's very good. So it's not even like you're not gonna come up with any new wrinkle. You're not gonna come back and say, oh, we didn't play this play. I think it's just like, You just gotta play better. And we're gonna need to play better on offense to win that game. In the end of the game, we were up by 10, but then we couldn't score in the second half. We couldn't just get going. I think we can do this this year. I think we have a shot. Again, what we do is take shots. And we can take shots and get penalties, or take shots and get San Antonio home to the bust of the move and get down for a touchdown. You know as much as it's oh, I've heard the if you establish the run and keep Peyton Manning off the field I don't think that's what it's gonna be about. I think yeah. Yeah, we're gonna run the ball We're gonna try to keep him to threes which is hard. You know, they've got the best they've got the best Red zone percentage and we have with one of the worst so That's the matchup is just we need to keep pace with Peyton Manning and how can we do that? We've done it in games this year. This will give me some hope We're not the team that won in with 14 and 17 points and 20 points last year we get to 30 So I'm thinking that's what we got to do. I Think this is a Sanchez game. I love that. He's going back to a place. He's played twice You know, this is his third time there. It's no there is a thing that just kind of gets you kind of get more comfortable It's like okay. I get it. You guys are all blue and here we go This is it and if you can't be this team, trust me you're not beating that second team. You can't beat this next team. I don't care who goes to that next team. If Indy goes, I would, I bet there's seven point underdogs. If we go, we're probably 10 point underdogs, not 10. But we're probably something. No, I think that's about right. Yeah, you know, the way they
00 Jake: handled us. So we got to beat this team. So who do you got? Who do you got? Who do you got? I got the Jets, of course. I thought you were going to pick the cults just to be like, well, if they lose, then at least I get the win in the pool. Never. That pained me. I have the Jets too. Justin: Although I'm not just picking this as a, I have the Jets because I always pick the Jets, I really think we're winning this game. I think now there's some fire in the belly from last year. I think they're going to win the game. All right. So what's your final score? I think we hold them lower than what you think. So I think the final score is going to be something like 23-17. Jake: Yeah, I think it's going to get up there. I think we'll be like 31-27. The key is to score late and not give Manning enough time to score on you. And again, we've done that in many games this year. We scored. in the last moments of the game, where the first moments of this, you know, we've done that. So I'm, so I'm good. So let's wrap it up some positive notes here. We got another review. We did get a review. We got the greatest review ever. I'm gonna read it. No, I wanna read it. No, no, no, I wanna read it, cause you're very grumpy. Fuckin' Paul Brennan. Fuckin' Paul Brennan. I will say, clearly it's not a great review. I'm actually the hysterical because most, no. All the viewers except for one who said they loved the podcast but didn't like that we didn't do enough of them Which is like saying I love candy, but I can't eat it every day. Okay fine So why you don't hate candy you just hate that you can't eat it every day This is an iTunes review. This is an iTunes review. This is a star. This is a one star can't get lower than one So Paul Brennan writes and that's why I wish you hadn't just said all that cuz it'd been funny just to read it Like what he writes. Oh Paul Brennan writes. Fuck you Paul. Um, their knowledge of the Jets and football in general is a joke One didn't even know an NFL game could end in a tie. Is that true? No. What we said is I didn't know that I thought it went to two. Because it was me, and I said I thought it went to two. Well, you are kind of over the top. A little bit. They spend most of the time talking about their record from last week's pecs, Who Cares, I think we spent about a minute and a half or whatever, and that his wife is a dolphin fan, Who Cares. No insight, no guess with insight. Listen to dead air for... 40 minutes a week and your knowledge of the jets will be no different. Wow. Well thank you Paul for writing in. Thank you Paul. I'm a fucking jerk. I wouldn't have gone that route. Justin: For all those people who disagree with Paul, go on iTunes and give us your reviews. Jake: That would be great. So, you know, always it would be nice to hear from other people now that the last review is sort of a negative one. I will say listen. We're just fans. We don't put ourselves out to be a... Well, I'm a broadcaster. Well, you're a broadcaster. I'm just a fan. We love the Jets. We talk about the Jets. We hope we bring stuff maybe inside the other Jets fans. I think most of the reviews show, they say, which is, we like this podcast because they talk like us. They think like us. They talk about the game like we would. They notice the things that we would notice. That's what we're here to do.
00 Jake: We're not here to break it down by... with Jaws like Jaws does or you know talk about it like you know Kishon would although I don't find their insight that great anyway. We don't have a staff of statisticians behind us writing this stuff for us so whatever and we have full-time jobs. So anyway Paul I appreciate it you know it's nice that you're you don't care then I would suggest maybe not listening but Whatever. I smell a hint of a dolphin's fan. Okay, so let's wrap it up with the If you hate us very much don't go to JetKingdom.com Don't follow us at Twitter.com slash just JetKingdom or follow me especially don't follow me at Twitter.com slash JetKingdom Please don't go to Facebook.com and and go to JetKingdom Facebook.com slash JetKingdom and like us If you don't like us, which makes sense. And if you really hit the podcast, please do not go to iTunes and subscribe to us and leave us a great review. Wait, no, wait, leave us a great review. Fight off Paul. Thanks Paul, we love it. And as always, until next week, and hopefully there's a lot to talk about next week in terms of the next week after that. Always, always, always, go Jets.
