09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's the always going, to disinteg the way. Jake: to dunno what's going on Welcome to the Jack King podcast. the longest running New York Jets podcast on the entire interwebs. My name is Jake, joining me today across the digital aisle. Justin, not a checking his head anymore. How you Justin: You are happy take two and no one even knows that there was a take one Jake: That's what's so beautiful about this but take it out and post we will take it out and post we got a big agenda today You huge agenda so stick with us guys. It's gonna gonna be a long one, but there's great stuff to come alright we're gonna talk about the Chicago game recap pick our fools of the game for the fifth time this year. We will pick our play the game which we don't do when we lose but we can because Justin wants us to. I think it's worth doing. We'll talk about some playoffs. We'll do playoffs. Playoffs? We'll talk about playoffs. Lots of stuff about playoffs. And some injuries as well. And then we're going to do our Jet Kingdom pick-up. See who won last week, who's winning overall, who's going to win the whole thing. and thrown picks which is when we break down the AFC East matchups. It's gonna be a little tough this week because we don't know who's playing for what and why and who's playing or how but we'll do that. We'll give our keys to the castle for the game that doesn't matter and then we'll wrap it up. Call it a day. Sounds good. Here at the game that was. Justin: the Chicago game. A game that I think we both predicted pretty poorly because I think we thought it was going to be low scoring. I don't think anyone predicted this game correctly. I don't think anyone, if you would have said the score is going to be 38-34. You'd be like no, no it's not. No, it's not. No. What, they could play three games? Two good defenses. Jake: If you'd said that their defense... Justin: was barely gonna get to Marc Sanchez, I would have said, pfft, no way. Told me we're gonna score 34 points, I'd say we'd win twice. That's not a bad prediction, but we lost. Yeah, we did. So Justin, tell me why we lost this game. A bad eight minute stretch in the third quarter where we gave up 21 straight points. Where we made a couple of like... Gave up 21 points in a row, or whatever it was. A couple of bad... place here and there that usually happens this way the sway the momentum one way or the other and and you know that that's that we we had a big chance at the end of the second quarter Sanchez by the way played I think his best game I've ever seen him play I know he's had like three touchdown games and this and
01 Justin: that but he looked really good in this game he got everyone involved All three big time receivers, Keller, had a good game, Edwards and Holmes all had good games. He was distributing the ball all over the place, found the holes in the zone. We were up, I think it was 21-17 at the end of the second quarter and Sanchez has us driving down the field. Like 4-17. No, at the end of the second quarter we were winning 21-17. He is correct. I thank you. And you can thank me later. Sanchez throws a perfect pass to a wide open Dustin Keller in the back of the end zone and he literally just drops it. Yep, just hits him in the hands and he drops it. No reason to have dropped that pass. He was having a good game. It was a good throw. That would put the Jets. That would have put the Jets up. 28-17 getting the ball to start the second half and the game is very different at that point. Jake: Yeah, and even if we'd gone out in the third and, well we did put up, you know, and kicked the field goal for that first drive, that would have put their defense, their game plan into a much different spin. Mike Marce was then, okay, time to whip it down the field. And I think we would have gotten far into a position where- Justin: Well, they did whip it down the field anyway. Um, what it did do was we were only up 24-17, and we got stopped at our own 40 and decided to go for a fake field goal, or fake punt, sorry. Which, every time there's a fake anything, when it doesn't work, you look back and you're like, Oh, what a bad call fuck you Rex that was terrible and everyone gets on him If it works, it's like, that guy's got balls and that shit worked! Haha! Fuck you! Sorry, I'm cursing a lot. But it's a truth of life. Sorry, dude. That's it. It's a truth of life. First of all, the call wasn't that bad. The play worked. Brad Smith just needs to catch the ball. It's the second drop of a Sanchez pass that... that screwed him over big time. The first being the drop touchdown, the second being that Brad Smith dropped, balls right in his hands. They had the first down. It's not a bad call. A bad call would have been, they blew that up, they sacked Sanchez or Sanchez throws it, gets, you know, fumbles or there's no one open and there's nowhere to throw it and he throws it out of bounds. That's a bad call. You know what a really bad call is? Tell me. Kick me into Devin Hester. That's a bad call. It's a bad call. Jake: They didn't do it the whole first half. And then they just decided to. Then they went into the... They went into the... They were like, well he's not doing anything to us. Yeah, he's not doing anything because you're not kicking to him. So the problem... The way I walked into this game was like, we're just giving them these incredibly short fields. And if we didn't give them... You know, it's okay to... Our defense was not playing on point. It clearly wasn't. And there's just, they were lighting us up, as they would say. I mean, that's a lot of points to score on a defense that was number one defense in the league last year, no longer number one. But giving them a short field means, even if you're giving up big plays, fine.
02 Jake: But if you have 80 yards to go versus 30 yards to go, you know, those plays are for touch. touchdowns maybe just you know versus getting to the 50 yard line that was that was it. Justin: Yeah well they they gave up 21 points in that third quarter in a eight minute stretch and then they didn't score again. So like the last 20 something minutes of the game the Bears didn't score but they were up 3831 and we couldn't, you know. Punching a touchdown. We had a couple chances Did you have a feeling at the end when we had a minute left to go that we're gonna go down score? Yeah, I kind of did because we did it a couple times Jake: I did too and I was sitting there calm and cool and collected not like normally in the years past that was Chad painting I'd be like we're fucked out of here. I'm like, I mean, I wouldn't talk with TV, but I'd be like, let's go But we've proven that we can do that. So I was kind of like, okay, I'm nervous I'm upset, we're gonna lose this game, blah blah blah, but I think we could win it, but two more of those. And I was thinking, wouldn't that be able to go down and get that touchdown? Interesting enough, this is gonna be my play. That play, I mean, are we supposed to be making a good play or a bad play? That's why I'm gonna play a bad play. Justin: Like my play is the color drop. I think that's the key to the game. If he makes that catch, game's completely different. True. And we won the first half anyway, we would've won it bigger, and getting the ball in the second half, we would've won it. probably don't fake fun. So it's a whole different game. True. I guess my play Jake: would be then the last play and the reason was because they actually did a great breakdown. I'm sure everybody out there watches ESPN and again it's weird that I'm repeating someone else but I'm just a fan so what do I know. But they show you're a broadcaster. I'm a fan because I'm fanatic. and you like the Patriots. So I you know they showed that same play where the safety was supposed to come across and help against the Patriots and the play worked the receiver caught the ball and went all the way for a touchdown. At the end of the first half Dion Branch I believe. Yeah and it worked because the safety didn't come across. Now of course Tom Brady, Mark Sanchez not in the same you know same category yet but So I understand why they called it and it could have gone the opposite way. Like if that safety hadn't come across and read it, that could have been a... San Tony Holmes. What's a San Tony Holmes, right? It could have been San Tony Holmes for a touchdown. Jets win, Jets win. Can't believe they did it again. Okay, game's over. Who's your fool and why? Well, there's... You know, we should also mention Brad Smith threw the ball in this game. Justin: Yeah, I was lined up in the wildcat and scuttled up, took the snap from behind center and missed an open Edwards. I mean Edwards was open. It's probably not the best conditions for Brad Smith to ever be thrown the ball. Why do that there? I think that's just the dumbest call. I like your theory. Jake: Your theory was we're waiting for the right time. Right? We're waiting all season for the right time. Well, if that's the theory, then that's the- the reason that there is crap because they didn't wait for the right time they went for just crap play like didn't work wasn't a big deal in a snowy wintery like game like that
06 Jake: sanchez was doing well throwing the ball like no reason to call that point. Yeah there was no Justin: reason I mean brad smith was actually running the ball very well. on his couple of attempts where they ran. So my fool of the game is the Jets secondary minus Dorell Rivas. The Jets secondary minus Dorell Rivas. Jake: Right, but wherever Rivas was... The ball wasn't going there. Right, but then everybody else is like, this is my problem. We can talk about the playoffs and where we think we're going in the playoffs, but this is what happened to us last year. Although we had a better defense last year, Reavis was an island that no one could catch a ball on, but the other side, whoever wasn't Reavis, was such a bunch of schlows that it didn't matter because there's more than one receiver on the field. If we only played one receiver games, great! Reavis is on the receiver, no one else goes anywhere. But they have more than one receiver, and anybody we're going to meet in the playoffs is going to have more than one good receiver. or a bunch of good tight ends, Patriots. Justin: Well, here's the deal actually, and we'll get into this in a minute. Kansas City matches up pretty well because they have Dwayne Bow. Right. And that's it. So you can put Reavis on Bow and that shuts him down. That's true. We'll get to that later, actually, next week. But my fool is the secondary minus Reavis. So, from Marty, Lowry, Coleman, all those who gave up touchdowns. You're going to give Lowry a fool? I don't care that he had to pick six. Pick six, dude. Pick six is great, but giving up six is bad. Yeah, that's true. True. Jake: Um, my fool is Keller, because your job, your number one job, your... That should never happen, right? That's the game changer. I'm gonna make Keller my fool. You know, the other stuff that we should mention, Sean Green was having a good running game. Justin: Yeah, why did LT run the ball? Why did LT have 13 carries and Green had 12? And LT gets the fourth quarter carries Jake: when Green's really doing his thing. Green was hitting 12 attempts, 70 yards, an average of 5.1, so 70 yards, right? And it's... split back system. And a touchdown. And a touchdown. Tomlinson's 13 attempts, 28 yards, averaging 2.2. Why would you not... Justin: They should have rode green for those carries that Tomlinson got in the fourth quarter. I'd love to say that they were, you know, they were saving him. But that's not the case. Jake: I do like what I see though. This is like... Justin: They've been saving him for the whole year. Jake: This is what green is good for. Trust me. on Sunday It'll be green. It's Joe McKnight. It'll be Joe McKnight because green is gonna be sitting ready to go against whoever we play and I guarantee you that flip-flop will happen just like it did last year and we will start to pound green like Well, could mr. December mr. January here comes BAM in your face just saying So then the game ends. Day man sad jets. Cheers rolling down my face. My daughter upset
04 Jake: Did they lose? No, she wasn't with us. She was doing something else But, and then, oh, she was with us, and she's like, oh, they didn't get to 11. She's very obsessed. And then all of a sudden, I flip over, and then my command center, which I actually posted a picture on Twitter, and someone's like, nice setup. So I'm watching the other game, I'm watching, and I flip it over so I can track that as one of the games. And I'm watching it, oh my god, it's going over time, oh my god, they just do an interception. The Jaguars just doing an interception. They've got it to 30. Oh my god, they're just gonna kick a field goal right now. They even kicking it on the third down. Love that. Love kicking it on the third down. Boom, like we're in the playoffs. It's like a good 10 minute point there where we were losers and had to fight and maybe not go in the playoffs too. We're in the playoffs and it really doesn't matter. We lost. I mean, it matters, but it doesn't. matter right it's actually right in line with what I predicted for the year which was 10 wins that we do one better than we do last year and I thought we'd go to the playoffs as a wild card Booyah so that's kind of what happened wouldn't you predict by the way just someone I think 12 and win the AFC East yeah I did not Justin: think the Patriots were gonna be this good I don't think anyone did Jake: So you were right or wrong? Completely wrong. Were you as wrong as I was about Moss leaving? No, you were way more wrong. Yeah, that was probably more wrong. You were way more wrong. I was a little bit more wrong. So that was the game that was. We now on to the... Justin: Some injuries. Some injuries. Still some guys who probably won't play, right? You got San Antonio Homes. who's got the toe. Didn't seem to stop him. Didn't seem to stop him but we'll probably get a lot of rest. Sanchez did not seem to bother him whatsoever with the shoulder. Jake: It's interesting because everybody's saying tour ligament, tour ligament. He came out, now maybe this is just the stuff that happens in the NFL, but like he's like no it was just sore. I didn't tear anything. It's just sore. I feel fine. Justin: The ball of great coming out of his hands. He threw the ball great He had one of the wings games. Yeah that I've seen him play I mean look great in this game Smith didn't play Eric Smith didn't play with the concussion. He could be back I'm hoping that he can be back Two weeks in two well, definitely in two weeks But I want see some guys need to get on the field to knock some rust off and Eric Smith? Yeah, get on the field. Head of Bowe hurt himself again on the Hester kick return. Don't know what's going on with him. Woody obviously missed the game with the knee. Doubtful that he'll come back for the Bills game. Hopefully he can come back for the game against whoever it's going to be in the first round. But you know the line has been playing pretty well. Speaking of the line, we should mention and we didn't we didn't put it in our agenda, two of the offensive linemen make it to the Pro Bowl. So three Jets make the Pro Bowl, D-Brick, Mangold and Dorell-Rivas. Pretty good. Anybody think left out unfairly? Yeah, I think two guys got
04 Justin: left out unfairly. David Harris? Absolutely. Brandon Moore should make the team because he's been really really solid at right guard. He never misses a game. He's one of the top rushing teams in the league. I imagine all the times that Sanchez gets sacked it's not from him. Does Lanham get in if he didn't get hurt? Maybe. I mean, Ed Reed made it and he missed like the first six games, so... I'm sorry. Ed Reed gets in because he's Ed Reed. And so does Ray Lewis, although they're still good. When have you seen a highlight reel where Ray Lewis has done anything? Ray Lewis has been pretty good. I've seen a couple good plays from him. Whatever. Whatever. Let's move on. I wrote this whole thing out. Alright, so I'm going to take this segment. I'm going to go get some coffee. You're going to get the coffee. I'm going to talk by myself. Jake: This is Justin. See you go. This is like your radio show and then college. I sure I did have a radio show college Justin: Where I talked it was a talk radio show two hours by myself. No Collins No, nothing you just talked two hours of me talking coffee talk coffee. So here's what we're gonna I usually played like five or six songs in the two hours of breaking. I'd to go pee. Yeah Place do you play a long one? Yeah, I'd play some like free bird or something Some free bird eating. Live, 22 minutes. The heebie. The heebie raps. The heebie. So you're like, ooh, I could go pee on this one. Some blinded by the light. That was the one I was listening to the other day. That was the long song. Jake: Anyway, so let's talk about the playoffs, because the Jets are in the playoffs. They're in. And I think, I know it's coming off a lot, but let's take a moment to say congratulations. Two years in a row, woo hoo, getting to the playoffs in one of the toughest divisions. Thank you, everyone, for joining us We will be having a look at the With a team, it's one of the best teams in the league bar none Sitting in your division. Yeah, so it's it's a tough thing to do. We're in as a wild card again It's what I thought was gonna happen But for Rex I say great job because usually what happens is the new coach comes in gets you to the playoffs the first year The second you turn into a bunch of shit the third shape the 30 you turn into half bunch of shit You don't make the way I'm gonna get fired So in they took a nice Tony Sperano. Yeah My cemetery getting fired I guess that's other kingdoms 97 to it to a 10 and 6 let's call it. Okay 10 and 6 Although I think we'll win the game but whatever not gonna predict that several lose 9 wins to 9 plus more than 9 Justin: No, absolutely. No and to play off bursts with a rookie and set then, you know You're doing this with a rookie quarterback. You're taking rookie head coach rookie quarterback first two years. Who's improved? Has improved. Jake: He did not regress this year? No, he got better. He got much better. Stats wise, everything he got better. Running the game last minute, there's no stats you can look that says he got worse. He's a better quarterback this year than he was last year. So his sophomore year, as we hoped, kind of happened in the playoffs last year. That was his sophomore year.
00 Jake: This is his. Thanks for watching! Whatever. Who? He's going to continue to get tired. Alright, so talk about the playoffs. Justin: Alright, so playoff scenarios. So tell me who's in the playoffs. We'll start with the AFC. We'll start with Jets stuff as I wrote it in our agenda. So as of right now, if the playoffs were to start this coming week and there was no Week 17, the Jets would be the sixth seed, as everyone who's listening to this podcast probably knows, they're the sixth seed, and they would face Kansas City in Kansas City. Kansas City is... the three seed as of right now. Now the Jets can actually move up to the fifth seed there is a way. If I say this I want you to tell me why I want to be fifth or sixth seed. Okay no problem. So if the Jets win Baltimore wins and Pittsburgh loses then the Jets move to the fifth seed Pittsburgh moves all the way down from the two down to the six and Baltimore moves all the way up. from the fifth to the second. So Jets win, Baltimore wins Pittsburgh wins. That's based on the fact that the Jets beat Pittsburgh and the Jets lost to Baltimore. So Pittsburgh and Baltimore would flip. Baltimore would win their division, they'd move up to two, and the Jets would move from six to five. Jake: So Baltimore and Pitt still have a huge amount to play for. Yeah, for instance, they absolutely do. The Jets have something to play for because they might wanna be the fifth versus sixth. Justin: That's right. Okay. Now again five versus six you we don't have much control over who we play Now moving on Kansas City wins and they have the number three seed locked. So they're locked into three They already won their division. They're locked into three if they win, right if they lose Meaning Kansas City loses and Indianapolis wins then India is the number three seed So at that point, if the Jets are at 6, Indy wins KC loses, the Jets will play Indy in Indy. Jake: And that's the big difference in those different seeds isn't first two matters because if the first two go all the way through. two has to go to one for the championship. But between three and four, it never felt like there's a big difference between those. Well, the difference is... Because you both have to host. Justin: The difference is that nobody would want to go to New England that first... for that first playoff game. But you'd still have to go get them eventually. Eventually, but I don't think you want to play them right away. Off that... off that... By period but anyway moving on if Indy wins they're in They're winning in they're winning in if they lose They could still be in if Jacksonville loses But if Jacksonville wins then Jacksonville is the four seed and Indy's out in these out Now Jacksonville wins and Indy loses in these out so Indy needs to win What I want to happen. Jake: Okay, so here, so we're the two, right now we are scheduled to go to KC. That's correct. The season was over right now. That's right. We're going to KC. We're going to KC. Which is actually what, I know what you want. Justin: Well, it's what, there's one scenario I think I'd take over that.
02 Justin: I want to get the number five seed and have Jacksonville be the number four and go to Jacksonville. You'd rather go to Jacksonville. Yeah, wouldn't you? Then K.C.? Yeah! When you'd rather go to Jacksonville and Kansas City, I mean, Kansas City's really good at home. Jacksonville's like Jacksonville who gives a shit. Yeah, I worry about the running game of Jacksonville. Jones Drew's hurt. That's another thing to add into this. Jones Drew- Jake: and David Justin: right they remind me of Cincinnati last year. Their quarterback running back combo is better than Jacksonville's quarterback running back. I hear you but Jake: they're a team they feel like since the last year they've done something they never done before not before not never done but haven't done a long time they did very well in their division they rocked it they've got the first seed like they're all set to go look at this team, right, and and By the way, I have a 51 odds for the ones who will a ticket at home, which is now looking better and better They play the Jets then you'll want to burn it then I will want to burn it. I'll burn it happily But I feel like they're a team that could stumble in the playoffs very quickly They're a team that their quarterbacks never played in the playoffs They're young and I just think that they're like, I don't think they have the experience. I think they experience team, not that the Jess and V most experienced, but I think we have a lot more experienced players. Justin: Last year earned them some experience in the playoffs. Jake: And just to not get over sight, to not get too crazed about it. So I could see them as a team who like gets beat down in first round. So that's the AFC. Justin: New England's won, every other seed is up for grabs. Run me the scenario that you want. So run me through the playoffs. So I just gave you kind of what I want. Jake: No, no, no. First, all games. All the games? Yeah. So I would say, here's what I was looking at this. Fine. Go to KC because that's what's happening now. Go to KC, have whoever go to, well the second one would be, right now it It would be either Pittsburgh or Baltimore. Pittsburgh or Baltimore. No, Pittsburgh's in second. Who's goes to... No, I'm trying to think the other team. It doesn't matter, the other team. I want to go to KC, then I want to go to Pittsburgh, then I want to go to New England. Justin: You want to go to New England? That's your strategy? What would be better than beating them in the AFC Championship? Jake: Not having to play them in the AFC Championship. Okay, so you want them to get kicked out? You want to go to Baltimore then Pittsburgh? No, not Baltimore then Pittsburgh. You want to go to Indy?
00 Jake: You want to go to Indy in a second? Where would you want to go? Anywhere but New England. Anywhere but New England? New England, really? Yeah. I feel like we're doing up there. I think we can hang one on that. Justin: That's a tough one in the AFC Championship game. Jake: Wouldn't that be fucking unbelievable? Justin: That'd be phenomenal. It'd be great. I think I'd be there. I know I'd be there. Jake: That would be a tough one. Plus, that allows me to go to both the two games. Because if we go to Pittsburgh, I'm not going to the first round. I've already said that. Justin: I'd prefer to go to... for going? I'd rather go to Baltimore than... Pittsburgh because it's closer. God, why are you still wuss? Yeah, who wants to drive eight hours and then like potentially have to drive back after a loss, that sucks. Jesus, you said you wuss. Jake: So I didn't go last year, I didn't want to drive back after that, anyway. Yeah, we didn't drive to Indy, we flew to Indy. I didn't want to fly. Justin: Whatever. I drove to Scentsy. Let's talk NFC because people do care about the playoffs. So NFC is a little bit more wide open. Yep. Because there's really only... Seven teams for six spots in the AFC, and there's only two that are Not in right Jacksonville and India are the only ones that are not in the playoffs, right? But for the NFC there there's a little bit more Jocelyn so we'll start with the Giants they lost a bad game against Green Bay in Green Bay and Because of that Green Bay now controls their own destiny for that number six seed. The Giants had it in their grasp and then they lost it completely. So in order for the Giants to get into the playoffs, the Giants need to win and Green Bay needs to lose. Okay so that'll get the Giants in at the sixth seed. Now Tampa can still get in with the sixth seed and what Tampa needs to happen is they need to win and they need both Green Bay and the Giants to lose to get in right so Tampa can still get in in that sixth seed But they need two losses. Okay? Now Philly's locked in as the number three. They're not moving with a huge loss to... Didn't even matter. They're locked. Jake: No, I think it did matter because they could've... Justin: They could've gotten a 2, but at this point they're locked at 3. Jake: That's the thing. The jump from 1 to 2 is not as big as the jump from 3 to 3. And the jump from 3 to 4 is not as big as 4 to 5. Justin: Right. But Philly's now locked at 3. The Sunday night game... The crap is the game for the NFC West so st. Louis versus Seattle in Seattle if Seattle wins They're in that's seven and nine if st. Louis wins. They're in So it's you know whoever wins that game is in New Orleans and Atlanta Have basically locked at one in five, but they could flip it's just sort of weird Yeah, so Atlanta and New Orleans, if Atlanta loses New Orleans wins, New Orleans can be the number one and Atlanta would slide all the way back to five.
00 Justin: But Atlanta, if they beat, I think it's Carolina at home, which is sort of a cupcake game, There the number one seed home field throughout the playoffs. Gotcha. Chicago could potentially move up to number one if both Atlanta and New Orleans lose and Chicago wins. But currently they're locked at number two. So Chicago has that first round by. They could even move up to number one. based on what Atlanta and New Orleans do. And they're playing Green Bay who needs to win. And I felt was pretty smart they moved some games around this week so that people couldn't scoreboard watch early like for a one o'clock game and then decide oh we're not playing at four. So the giant game got moved up to four. clock the giant game the Packers game versus the versus the Bears they're all at four o'clock so that people couldn't look at the scoreboard and decide like the Bears couldn't look at the scoreboard and say oh we we don't need to win anymore because you know Atlanta already won so We're not gonna play against Green Bay. That's not fair to the Giants. So everyone's playing which is good Jake: I felt did a good job. I I totally agree the NFL did a good job and But you won't I I'm sure everybody out there watches Sunday Night Football Sunday in America or football in America That's what's called football in America on NBC. I will be glued because All this is going to be explained in that game, right? Basically everybody, every step of the last game between play that night, like all this- That's for the four seeds. All the scenarios are gonna have to be broken down and we'll know where we're going and when and whatever. And again, for me as someone who actually tries to go to playoff games and I'm going to try to go to beyond the first week. So first week I'm not gonna go to. basically because I want to go to the second or third. Justin: What's also interesting is there are four games the first week and NBC gets two of them. So they actually get the first pick and the last pick. Of the playoffs? Of those four games. CBS and Fox get the other two. Because NBC has the Super Bowl this year. I don't know about that. I'm not sure who has the Super Bowl. But NBC gets that first pick of that week one. Right. and then whoever CBS and Fox decide not to take. Jake: So, they will be, not only will they be talking about who's in the playoffs, they'll be probably announcing what the games are and when they are. Justin: Right, so you can pencil in NBC for having that four or five game that Fox won't take. Fox will take the Philly versus Giants or Philly versus Packers game, right? So then it's a matter of who does NBC want to take do they want to take the Jets? Versus at this point Kansas City or would they take Baltimore? Indie they have see as the better two games, right? So that'll be in salt right? He's already magic last year Jake: I mean, they're all good games, so. I don't know. Just KC, to me, as I've tried to be an outside person, eh.
05 Justin: It's New York though, so. Jake: It's New York, but Baltimore, Indy, that's a game that happened last year in the playoffs. Baltimore beat them. I don't even let them score a touchdown or something crazy. or as I remember it. Baltimore what? Baltimore indie last year. Right. Right. They didn't, because we wanted, we wanted Baltimore to win that game because if Baltimore won that game, the Jets would have hosted the AFC championship in the old metallands. So I remember watching the game like, please Baltimore win the game because then we get to host the AFC championship and I'm going. And they didn't. They got beat by it. Anyway. Alright, so let's get to our picks now. Yeah, let's do it. I think it's the whole thing. I've forgotten it already. Justin: So let's go and let's do our... Let's do our pick against the spreads. So how did we do last week? Oh, last week someone named Justin won between us two. Obviously Mike... Did you win the whole week? Jake: No, Mike is pulling away at 12. So basically I've won two weeks so far and you've only won one so I'm better than you? No, because I'm actually better than you overall. So Mike won with 12. He has 130 hits. So I had a 12, and so that means I'm better than you. No. Because you never even had a 12. You never even picked a 12 all season. You've never even picked 11. I haven't picked a 4 though, have you? Yeah, once. Once has that 12. How about a 5? A couple. Yeah, I haven't done that either. Anyway, so last week I was a 7, you were a 8. 8. So I win. Justin: I'm 122 to 117, beating you by 5. Jake: Still doable. Still doable. Doable, doable, doable. All right, let's do it. Justin: So keep the playoff stuff in mind keep the against you and everyone keep the playoff stuff in mind keep the Meaningless game stuff in mind because the spreads are skewed a little bit for that. Are they all available? No, no, there's one off game Okay Maybe the dows quarterback situation I'm not sure because Philly doesn't really need the game and Kitten and I don't know maybe that doesn't matter. Alright so Atlanta is hosting Carolina Atlanta needs to win to snatch that number one overall seed and they're favored by 14 and a half so I will take Atlanta. Don't think they're going Jake: to win by 14 and a half. All right, so we'll take that. I just, those huge spreads, I just generally don't like them. They never work out for me. So I'm gonna stick with Carolina and give me one chance to make it over. Justin: All righty, Pittsburgh goes to Cleveland. Pittsburgh needs to win the game to get the second seed. They're giving six. For some crazy reason, I like Cleveland at home. getting six points I just think that they'll do something against Pittsburgh so I'll take Cleveland. I will go with this. I think they're gonna Jake: smack this team around. Yes last year Cleveland had this big run I think this Justin: is basically the end of the man genie era in Cleveland. I think you'll get one more year. Then they had a learn from their mistakes. Moving right along. Detroit hosts Minnesota. Mm-hmm. Not sure who's starting for Minnesota. So it'll be Favre or if it'll be Joe Webb.
01 Justin: Oh, it will not be Favre. He did not pass this conclusion. Favre could not pass the test. Jake: But he did get fined $50,000 for sending his pictures of his penis to Genssurger. Good for her. No, didn't send it to her. She doesn't get the $50,000. She should get it. just for... she'll write... trust me, she'll write a book or a blog post or something. She should write a book. Yeah. She should put naked pictures of herself in that book. I was about to say, I don't really want her to write a book but I want her to be in a book. She should be in Playboy or something. Or a video. She is in Playboy. I know. She knows so much. I know. Justin: Alright, so Detroit Hosts Minnesota, Detroit... They beat Miami last week as someone on this side of the table this side of the digital table Predicted and someone on that side did not predict So Detroit all these don't know he's actually pointing at me. Yeah, you lose. I win Yes, Detroit giving three and a half. I'll take Detroit Keep going against me. Keep going against me. Jake: No, I'm actually gonna pick Minnesota this week. Dude, keep going against me. Because the little engine that could last week kind of played well. I think he's gonna... Justin: Not gonna happen twice in a row. Jake: Well, again, alright, maybe not. Justin: And they're coming off a real short week. I'll take the spread. Good. Kansas City hosts Oakland. They do have to win the game to lock in that three seed. I wouldn't want four if I were them because that means you know New England's right there after you. So I'm gonna pick Kansas City giving three and a half over Oakland. Jake: Yeah, I don't think Oakland's gonna win that game in Kansas City. I probably would have picked a reverse if they were in the other. But Kansas City at home, they're a tough team. And they do have something to play for. Oakland at this point doesn't, other than bragging rights. But yeah, nothing happened. By the way, this is also the first year that I think that, and we said the NFL did a good job, but they did all the matchups. I mean, that's why- Division matchups. Every division matchup is happening. you It's good. It's a good job with the schedule. Right. And even with the some teams completely out, it still really totally makes everything matter, although it's hard to understand, but I think it's a great job because it makes Justin: a thing. So the next game is New Orleans, hosting Tampa Bay. New Orleans. And Tampa, I mean Tampa needs to win more than New Orleans. New Orleans is in the playoffs. This is another one of those good jobs by the NFL making this a one o'clock game and the Atlanta game a one o'clock game. So New Orleans can't decide oh Atlanta's winning or won. We don't need to play because we're automatically number five. New Orleans home giving seven and a half. Tampa needs to win. I'll take Tampa. Give me the points at least. Oh no, not in New Orleans. No way. New Orleans will cover that. Alright, we are opposite on a lot here. Good for you. Long Ball throw. Good. Hail Mary. Moving right along Baltimore. who needs to win again another one o'clock game with the Pittsburgh game at one this is good job by the NFL again we'll keep getting it was nice Baltimore's
05 Justin: home against Cincinnati who pulled off a crazy victory last week in San Diego without either of those so the two best receivers go away and Palmer looks like Palmer like yeah well not not his brother oh Carson's back I think it's do you think it's age's job Carson Palmer I don't think his job was ever really in jeopardy for some reason Marvin Lewis will be fired but then I wonder back I'll still be there oh I don't know most coaches like to start with a new quarterback where are you getting that guy from No, there's gonna be quarterbacks available. All right. Anyway, Baltimore's home. They're giving 10. I think they crushed since II Jake: Give me Baltimore. I don't like big spreads in division matchups. So I will pick since II to cover Justin: already Here's the meaningless game San Diego goes to Denver San Diego gives three and a half not sure why Denver's been playing better with Tebow. I'll take the three and a half in Denver at home for some. Yeah, I will I too will take Denver Jake: Talk about a collapse who's who's more happy not happy, but I said the other day when I talk about Chargers I dislike that Everybody discounts that they sort of lose the beginning of the season and just goes, Ah, they'll make it up in December. They'll make it up in December. They'll make it up in December. It's not a... I mean, I know that they don't try to lose those games, but it's like, stop saying that, because that's not easy to do. And if you have one slip up, aka what happened to them, you're not making it. So I think they're done. North Turner apparently is gonna stick around. mistake ever that team is yeah he's a loser perennial loser he's the Wade Justin: Phillips loser whole big-time loser so here's a meaningful game a bunch of these four o'clock so very meaningful Green Bay is home and the frozen tundra Lambeau field Lambeau they're hosting Chicago lit up the gents last week and Chicago could see here's where it gets hard spread green bay's giving 10. Chicago could potentially need to win that game for the number one seed. I think they could get it if Atlanta and New Orleans lose. Both lose. And that's early at one. Green Bay needs to win to get in. Green Bay's laying 10. just give me the points, I'll take Chicago. Yeah, I agree, 10's too much. I actually had Green Bay picked, Jake: and then I wouldn't look at the spread, and I'm like, oh no, not 10, not 10. Because I think Chicago will show up with something, and again, you don't really need Chicago to do a lot on offense, although they can wing the ball too. But I could see a couple of defensive moves here and there, or a Hester run back, and making that a closer game than 10 points. Justin: Here's another 10-point spread, but this one, this one I'll go the other way. The Colts are hosting Tennessee. Tennessee's done. The Colts need to win to get in. Giving 10. I think they win by more than that. Give me the Colts at home.
01 Jake: Tennessee has nothing to play for. Pride. Nothing. There's just this pride home. They don't even have any pride. Justin: That team is...they have a...I mean they have big time decisions to make in the off season about their head coach. Yeah, I'll go with Tennessee just to see if I can make it one on you. Alright, or lose one. Here's our off game. No spread on this game. It's Philly hosting Dallas. Since it's off, I'll take Philly. Even though they're locked into the three, still think they're, you know, they're... they threw Kevin Call about there. they're better than Dallas. Jake: I think they're gonna, yeah I agree. Even if this goes up to seven, eight, nine. Yeah well I'll maybe look at this on Sunday morning. Justin: Yep. Here's a meaningless game, San Francisco hosting Arizona. San Francisco giving six and a half. They fired their head coach. Not sure why, maybe that's why. Six and a half's a lot of points for a shitty team to be. giving to another city team. So I'll take the city team getting the six and a half. Jake: Come here, Arizona. No, I'll go San Francisco for the new coach factor. We're gonna play really hard to show our new coach we love him, aka the Dallas Cowboys against the... Yeah, but this new coach has no chance of being the actual head coach next year. Yeah, I think players like... this is just total speculation. I think players like to play very hard, not necessarily always for the new coach. but also to show it wasn't us. They play hard because if they win that next game, it doesn't really mean this, but I think players think this, that means all the shit that happened, see, it was him. He leaves, we win. But if they go, when they, you know, screw the pooch the next week, then people think, well, see. wasn't him, it's you guys. They haven't been good in years so... Justin: The Giants need to win in Washington. The Giants are favored by four away in Washington. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that they'd be favored by four. I could see like two and a half but not four because Washington's been playing better with Rex Grossman. It's kind of odd, but they are, and the Giants have been reeling. Please pick Washington. Oh, give them to me. Give me Washington. Oh, you're crazy. Giants have everything to play for. Washington has everything to play for, meaning I'm keeping the Giants out of the playoffs. That's awesome. That's the same thing Tennessee has to play for, keeping the Colts out of the playoffs. playing well. Washington's been playing well. I yeah that's great no please I Jake: think the Giants are gonna win that game I think they're gonna Rex Rex Grossman is is a sitting dog. How many sacks they have against have against Cutler nine they can beat that record on this one. I don't think so. Ten sacks. Side bet. Justin: Usually side bet. No no. Easy. No. Make that statement. No. Ten sacks. Houston hosts... Jacksonville, the spread is zero because of the injuries to Garard and Jones Drew. So Jacksonville, I mean, they got
02 Justin: to win. They got nobody to play. Houston stinks. This is like a hard one. I'm just picking Houston because they're home. I know they stink. I literally I clicked it and thought, uh, Jake: home team. Yeah. Because that's because in theory it's giving you three points. They just stink though. They stink and stink but home in front of the crowd maybe they want to play a little bit just to whatever that's what I'm saying. Justin: And then the big Sunday night game. Suck ass game. This is a great game. Ah it's a two teams who cares about. I'm excited for it. All right. I want to watch these it's a playoff game. It's good things. Uh St. Louis is giving three in Seattle. Give me the home team give me Seattle. Seattle plays very well at home. I think... yeah. I would just want a 7-19 to make the playoffs. I'm gonna go with Seattle just because of the home. Jake: Yeah. I just want to make the playoffs 7-1. I think the playoffs can win this, but I think it could be a 21-20. 21-20. So we'll see. Justin: Alright, so we got some thrombics right on. Let's go. So let's start with Miami at New England. Miami, the 1 in 7 home Miami and the 6 in 1 road Miami goes on the road. I want them to finish 7 and 1 on the road so that they can be 8 and 8. 1-7, 7-1. I think that'd be the most awesome thing. Is this the Sporano last game? Nah, they'd be stupid to fire him. He's done it over and over. Well, that's not to say they aren't stupid. They've been in the... He's done a good job there. I wouldn't fire him. I would... I mean... What's the news on New England? They're not usually a team that rests. No, they play, but last year they got burned. Jake: They got the West Volcker burned. They lost West Volcker this season. Justin: So they got burned last year. I think you're gonna see... I think you'll see, yeah, like a half and then a series in the third quarter maybe of starters and then income the backups. Yeah. Jake: There's even a theory to why you want to make sure that you get some backup thing because they might actually need to play and you want to get them prepared. I mean, we'll talk about it when we get to the jet game, but you know You want your Cake and eat it too you want enough so you feel like you haven't sat out for two weeks Justin: But you don't want to get too too much they get hurt Well, you don't want though for the Patriots is like Brady getting sacked around the leg All right, you know Welker taking a big shot over the middle right Cameron wake coming around the corner Yeah, you don't you don't want it. I mean why not? So for that reason, and because I think the Pats won't play their starters as often, although Belichick is a hard-headed son of a bitch, he'll be like, I don't care that Walker got hurt last year, that's what we do. So he's playing again the whole game, I don't care. But I personally think he'll pull him and Miami will win 2014.
04 Justin: Because they'll pull him. I think New England's gonna win. Jake: And I think what happens is New England will get up by 20 points pretty quickly. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, they're ahead. And then they'll pull. And then Miami will spend the next three quarters getting back and getting back and then it'll end 21-23. And that'll be the end of the game. But New England wins. Justin: So 21-23, what does that mean? Who wins? New England wins? New England wins. But I said New England won. Oh, gotcha. Alrighty, moving right along to... Game of the Century? Yeah, not really. I always say the Game of the One, the Game of the Century, but it's really not. Jake: For those new to the podcast, Justin used to go school up in Buffalo Country. I did. This is a big game for me. So generally this is a big game for him. When we looked at the season, at the beginning of the season, I think we both said, and both felt, truly, that this was probably a game that wasn't going to matter. We hoped it didn't matter, and truly, it really doesn't. Justin: Yeah, but this is my game. This is the game that for years I've gone if I go to one jet game a year, which I generally go to more than that But if I go to one, this is the one it's a big one for me I think you got a four this will be my fifth or sixth even game this year Yeah, this is a big one I have some roots in Buffalo have some friends that are bills fans and it's fun to go back and forth with them for the bills game It's also fun that the Bills have sucked for the last like 10 or 11 years. It's been good to me So I don't even think they've made the playoffs not 12 years 12 years Something like that the last time they were in the playoffs 15 years last time they were in the playoffs I was up there in college and it was the music City Miracle game. Oh, I got to watch with bunch of Bills fans and like just heard them for hours yelling about how that was a forward pass. Oh it was just awesome. Oh that's a lot. No it was great it was the best. Not horrible for them. Not horrible for them but I loved it. So let's talk about the strategy here. Do you think we're playing to win? Do you think we're playing to win? with backups. Like, I think, so put it out on the table. We're playing to win. We're not playing to roll over. We wanna win the game, we wanna win 11 games. It'll be only the- You play to win the game. Someone said that, I don't know who said that, but someone said you play to win the game. It'll only be, I think, the fifth time in the history of the franchise where they can win 11 games. I think they've only done it four other times in the history of the- Jets so that's a big accomplishment. It would be a big accomplishment to win two more games than we won in the previous year which is a good thing you always want to win one or two keep adding especially with a young team. Yeah I don't know. Sanchez. One more than last year playoffs is all that matters. Anyway, I think we go out there and play the starters that are healthy enough to play, meaning anyone with an injury, kind of like Holmes, you know, you won't see him as much. He'll be on the field, you won't see him as much.
00 Justin: I don't see Holmes use the go at all. You won't see him taking an end around. You won't see him returning punts. You won't see him out there doing any of that stuff. Um, receivers, I don't think it's the same thing as it is for someone like a quarterback. Well, the thing is, we don't have a whole lot of receivers on the team. Good. Sit him. So, you'll see, you know, maybe that guy Turner out there. Turner the burner. You're definitely going to see some Joe McKnight. I imagine LT will get a lot of rest in this game, won't play a whole lot. Sean Green will probably get two, you'll see a lot of Joe McKnight. You'll probably see them resting. Guys like Sean Ellis. Taylor will get some rest. I imagine that you know, Rivas and Cromartio play the the whole game. Now I don't know. I think they will. I mean I just I see them just playing. Jake: I don't I don't I don't feel that I don't know what. The thing was with the salaries and all that. But I know there's something about for every game you start. So there is not like I think for any player who's a player who's on the starting roster and who starts a game, there is some sort of money thing to that. How many games you started? Tuesday night. contract is in their signing bonuses whatever so I think when they line up for any given play to start the game they'll be everybody it's just a matter of what happens after that series meaning okay pass pass kick the ball do you ever see San Tony Holmes again because it's also like a preparation thing right you want to prepare you want to get your mind mentally around it but then you just don't want the physical desertion or the chance of getting hurt yeah I think you will see everybody line up as they are unless they are you know on the cusp or coming back you know like obviously the the concussion people like I think Eric Smith coming off concussion I would say wait another week because if you reinjure that and you're out then we're deeper shit so like that type of thing I wouldn't see but then everybody else I think he just pulled them out in kind of like you know last man standing situation so it's what you'll see is Justin: You'll see Sanchez play and while Sanchez is in the game the starting offensive line will be in the game Yes, because you're not going to see him behind backups because that's basically a preseason game Jake: I mean, it's a pretty good season game number three. Yeah, I Agree, totally. It's you want to give everybody kind of warmed up through the process, keeping the rhythm, but you don't want to do anything that could possibly get them hurt. So it's always a, you know, is it that next series? Is it the first quarter? I think you're going to see a first quarter start. And depending on the score, if we score the first two drives, 14-3, Sanchez sits. And that's it. Go, and he'll put on the mic and maybe he'll call in the players. You know, do something stupid like that. But he did everything. He did the prep. He did the thing. He watched the tape. See you next week. He got ready, he did something, he kept his mojo going, but then he's out of the game because we don't want him to get hurt. I think they'll do that to every player. I think they'll leave in people. I think Edwards will stay in, right? Holmes, I think, will be out quickly. Again, Super Bowl MVP, you don't need, no, you're cool. Post it down. Edwards, you know, more reps, keeping hot hands, I think that.
02 Jake: Again, running backs, agreed. means. down I think Richardson maybe they could you know he's 490 years old yeah he knows what he's doing yeah at this point and and people were banged up they come out and let some guys play on the bills side I mean I know they sat Fitzpatrick for a couple they haven't been practicing really yeah why I don't know, there's something with Fitzpatrick. I don't know what they're thinking. I mean, again, this is the weird part of the season. I've been a foreign, we've been a three and something team playing that last game. Actually, you were with me. It was the game that, that Tylaw, Tylaw returned two or three for touchdowns against the Bills. Remember that game? We went down to the, it was the whole stadium. We went down and set. Oh yeah. Yeah. And it was a four season. Like we were three wins. Justin: You were playing the Colts, weren't we? Jake: No, it was the last game of the season's Bills, definitely. Oh. Because you were with me. And it was Tylaw, you were returning either two or... three for touchdowns maybe two and it was like eating got like six or seven interceptions for the year or something and we're all like oh you see it was a great anyway yeah why do I remember that because we had three wins and everybody was saying why the fuck are you trying to win this game you have three wins you don't want to get the four wins because then you drop down three spots in the in the draft so at what point does the bill start to think why am I playing this game like For what it's not for the coach is a coach a new coach, right? So he's got his you got his get a new free card Which is the bill suck and this is my first year with them and we've won some games whatever so it's not for them It's not you know, I don't think this package is the future of the bills. I wouldn't be so sure about that No, okay, but I don't he's he's been around as I I don't think he's the diamond in the row I think he's played some good games, but I don't think he's a diamond in the rough So that's like you know, what are we doing here? So are they gonna play because the NFL wants us to play sure do they really want to win this game? I don't think they want to win this game There's no good to win this game going from four wins to five when does drop you four or five places in the draft And why so what so you get five wins? Regardless, so what's your key to the game key to the castle you pick off in defense don't get hurt That's mine. Justin: Don't get hurt. Don't get hurt. That's it. There's no key. If they win, they win. If they lose, they lose. Whatever. I think they'll win anyway. 2310. I just think the bills are done. 2310. Jake: Jets win 20 to 60. And that is the end of the game and the end of this podcast. If you are a fan of the Jet Kingdom podcast, head on over to www.jetkingdom.com.
