09 Jake: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Justin: Welcome to the Jack Kingly Podcast. As always on this side of the digital aisle is Jake joining me looking a little sleepy, but he has his chai tea latte Jake: What is that? Yeah, you got it. That's pathetic. It's Justin. Justin. How you doing, buddy? Listen, I quit coffee a year ago and I drink tea now Life is not worth it without coffee. Hold on. Let me just take a sip of my glorious French vanilla I know it's easy for me to wake up on a Monday morning After a beautiful football Sunday. Oh, right Justin: We're here to talk about football and then more specifically the Jets and more specifically the Jets win There we go. All right. We got a big agenda. We're gonna talk about the Steelers game pick our Knights of the game I know it's been a while. I love picking nights. Pick our play. Plays with the game and then talk about any injuries that happened or are happening on our team. And then we'll talk a little bit about the other kingdoms. They have a game that went on in the AFC East because they all happened yesterday, only two other games. And then we'll be setting up what will happen the rest of this week because we will be coming back. It's a double podcast week again. We know you guys love it. So let's get going. 1 So, Steelers game coming after a two week skid, not scoring touchdowns at all offensively for weeks. And uh, go to Steelers. My key to the game was composure. And it was a game that I don't think many people thought the Jets were going to win. The Steelers have been playing pretty well and they haven't been dominating people, but they've been winning when they need to win. and Steelers have that ability. Ben Roethlisberger, I think, more than, even more proving it last night. When he needs 18 yards, he'll get 18 yards in one inch. When he needs 17 yards, he'll get 17 yards in one inch. When he needs to drive the ball 95 yards, fine. No problem. He's very good at just getting out of trouble. Yes, he holds on the ball a little too long, but he always seems to move just enough to make... the guy miss and the Jets you know came out with a win but let's discuss the game what do you think you were what's such a set up your situation how are you Jake: situated I was at home oh okay you're at home home watching on I drove down to the game I know I didn't I know I just got a few people did but I didn't I I was at home watching on a nice large HD television which is a very good way to watch football My key to the game, which was interesting and the Jets took my advice as well, was to not try and kick anything longer than a 45 yard field goal.
08 Jake: And they decided not to and it worked out for their benefit. So my key to the game, obviously, Rexy was listening and listened to the wise one. on the Jack King podcast and decided to do some things on special teams that maybe they didn't do during previous games that hurt them. You're right, the third and 17s, the third and 9s, the third and 12s, that Rofflisberger was able to pick up was just incredible. He's a really... good big-time quarterback and he played a pretty good game. He basically missed two passes that Justin: that like that he needed. He needed two passes, he missed them both. Everything else than that that I saw he made them he made the pass like on the edge 13 yards 27 yards he catches it 14 and he runs another three to get the first down. He needed two in the end zone and see only until he missed which is and he missed one by like an inch. Jake: They were crossing in front of each other, the two receivers. Yeah, probably shouldn't have been. But that's what happens. It was a little disconcerting to watch the Jets sit back in a rush three, don't try and get to the quarterback situation. Because when they do try and get to the quarterback is when they play better. I thought there were a couple of plays and I was yelling. at my TV at CroMarty because he blitzed on a play and had a free rush at Roth's and he jumped up he went for a pump fake and I'm yelling you know run through the quarterback don't forget the pump fakes don't jump just run through them right and then Coleman did exactly that later in the game he just ran through didn't go for the pump fake caused the fumble didn't get recovered but whatever is a big play Which was a really funny play because the Steelers offensive lineman picked it up and started running with it And it looked like he was gonna try and throw it. That was odd. Yeah Well, and I would have been funny to watch him try and throw it. It would have been although, you know Justin: Maybe he would have made me. That's what they doubt it Watching Jason Taylor, he got the guy down. I almost was like, Jason Taylor, why are you treating him like a quarterback? You should just go full on on him. He's not gonna move. He's not gonna move out of your way. And the chance of him bumbling that ball at that point, the offensive lineman, probably high. Yeah, you gotta try and strip that ball. Right, and, he knocked him down. And, you know, great. That was interesting. We actually got two... They fumbled the ball twice. There were no turnovers in the game. No turnovers, but we never got the ball from them. It was two times, it was like very close, you know? And I would have, if you had told me that the Jets were gonna not turn the ball over, but neither were the Steelers, how would you think the outcome was, I would have probably said, that seems like a game that the Steelers are gonna win at home. I mean, it was cold, clearly.
01 Justin: It was snowing. but not like a Blizzard Snow, it was more like Winter Wonderland Snow. It was a dusting. It was a dusting. But it made for good TV. Jake: It's a slippery field. Yeah, absolutely. I didn't realize before the game started, I didn't know that the Jets had never won in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania. I didn't know that. Me neither. I thought that, who would think that you're... 0.7 and then Justin: Well 0 and 7 and 0 and 4 so we're 0 and 11 and we think that I don't know. I wouldn't have thought it at all No, no, no good, but game came out. Okay I mean I think that the things that we that that the jet bands have been crazed about that the media has been crazed about You know, let's talk about them individually is Schottenheimer's son of not, you know going away from the key of what? the Jets are and you know either making making Sanchez not you know play out of his zone I thought they played almost a perfect Sanchez game right a couple sneaks I love the the fake you know fumble whatever that Lidani took for a first down the overthrow or you know Sanchez the time the Tom Brady the time was to try not to mention Jake: the haired ones name. That's a New England play that they've been running for years. Yeah, yeah. What Kevin Falco is running. Clearly effective. Justin: I like that play. And then, you know, got to talk about the big play of sort of the touchdown, the boot left, just naked boot. See, oh, he had a block. Wasn't naked. He had one block. He had Hunter to block him. He didn't need it. He didn't need anybody. the He was booking and then he saw no one's coming after. He was like, oh, all right, I'll just step on in here. Jake: Well, Turner played a good game. He played a good game at Right Tackle. We couldn't hear. Number 78 is eligible, which I always love hearing. I do like hearing that. But he played a good, solid game at Right Tackle. They did. run the ball on the Steelers effectively enough they ran for 100 yards total total over maybe a little over 100 which is you know against the Steelers they're they're only giving up 60 a game which is like second best ever in the history of the NFL which is pretty insane and we can only keep a man in Hall one yard less we could have kept him on if it was only him instead of a wildy more that got that got the safety that would have been negative too and that would have done it. But yeah, so Sanchez 19 for 29, 170 yards. It's a good percentage for him in any game but particularly in that weather it's a good percentage. And then Brothsberger 23 for 44. I mean 44 are tax attempts. That doesn't seem like steel or football. Well they were losing and they had the heat. He probably attempted. 10 passes in that last drive. I made 8 of them. Justin: Their receivers did well. Wallace did well with 102 yards. Sanders 78 yards. Jake: Yeah, it was basically anybody but Reavis was where they were throwing the ball.
00 Justin: Moving Reavis around too, I noticed. Not really. He was covering Heinz Ward. They had him on Heinz Ward, but the one time he didn't have one on Heinz Ward, he got the ball and got the big first down. Jake: He wasn't on Heinz word when Heinz word got the one play right? They were throwing it anywhere about Rivas and Except for the last drive. They they threw it every visit twice and did not complete the pass It was like just please throw it to his guy because everyone else is gonna be open and catch the ball Particularly because the the missing safeties. I mean obviously we're missing Leonard Then missing Smith who's not great, but at least he's a safety you have like Lowry out there Trying to play safety. I mean that not doing a horrible. Oh, I'm not doing horrible, but not you know, not great I mean guys are open over the middle of the third receivers open all the time This is what's gonna happen if if if you're gonna have to play without Jim Leonard. I mean ahead of both is a safety but really he's a blitzer and that in a run stopper he's not covering anybody so sort of have to deal with that for the rest of the season and hope that Eric Smith can come back from his concussion and and be effective although he's really and now they're good at it. That's what I was saying, it's not much of a trade up. Justin: On our side, you know, Edwards, Edwards, I thought a great game, we'll talk about our nates. Played really well. Plays, but he had a hundred yards. Homes on his homecoming, his homescoming, that could have been the podcast name, but it's not. Okay, could have picked up a couple big plays, but nothing spectacular. You know that. You know that a defense when the guy comes home, basically they have a little bit in them is, I want to stop that guy. I don't want the guys coming home that we release to come and burn us. Just like when Edwards went back to Cleveland, you know, yeah, it's an okay game, but they were really making sure that he wasn't having a great game. Of course, home is not that game, but a great game. Jake: Edwards might have played his best game of the year. Justin: Here's a note. Edwards plays...we have two kind of punk thud wide receivers. They're both bit thugs and if I weren't a full Jets fan, like 100% bleed green Jets fan with my Jets cufflinks on today, I would literally...yes cufflinks...I would literally think that they were crap. Like not crap bad players but just... The way San Antonio Holmes, the ref's like two inches away from him, holding on his hands. Can I get the ball please? And San Antonio Holmes does the drop. Not on the first down, but does the drop anyway. Like you could have just handed it to the guy. He's literally standing right there. He dropped it in his hand. No he didn't. He dropped it like a foot-away from it. It was obnoxious. And Edwards plays angry. But I'll tell you, Edwards plays better angry. When he was, I don't know how he played in Cleveland, like I know the thing about him, I never, I didn't watch a lot of his games. But when he's an angry player, like up in people's faces, not getting the penalties, he's good. Like he, he needs that kind of like someone just to stick a B up his ass in the beginning of the game and say, go get him.
02 Justin: Because he just plays angry and like... I'm gonna stuff you every time as a wide receiver. I kind of like it. Again, as a jet fan, I like it. If I were on the opposing side, I'd be like, what a thug. Jake: A bee in his ass? Yeah, just like a hornet. Just stick up his ass. I've never heard that one. Yeah, that would hurt. That would hurt. And he would play mad. Wouldn't you play mad? I wouldn't play. I'd be like somewhere else in the traitor room. Justin: And then we got to talk about the sort of beginning of the game, you know. This is a game, and I think this is what we'll get to our plays in a second, plays at night, but because a lot of things, I came up with four. I watched the replay this morning and I came up with four plays I thought could be easy, eligible for a play of the game. But obviously the big one was the start of the game and this is the game that we said, you're going to have to hang in there, you're going to have to be composed. There's almost no, actually, absolutely possible for this to go, no drugs. Either it happened now and we're winning or we're not and I can close off the TV and go to bed. But yeah, at the beginning, Brad Smith deceptively fast, as they said on the TV broadcasters, I thought was good. I call him slow. I call him fast, not quick. He is a fast, lanky guy and he just waits for his blocks. Although I watched it again this morning, he literally just ran straight. I mean, I know he's doing his thing and watching for blocks and whatever, but if you look at the line that he ran, it wasn't like another game loop that you might have watched at the end of the game in the new Metal Unstating that maybe we'll discuss in a second. But he just ran a straight line. So that's it. So jets win. Pennsylvania as coach Ryan said at the end Mark spot here because you might be back This is a team that beat them Go with the better record Oh yeah Jake: That bugs me. We're damn close and we'll go over the playoff stuff in a little bit, but yeah, they clinched with the loss. They clinched with the loss, and Baltimore won. That's right. Justin: So another person in the division wins, they get beat and they quench, and we win. Jake: Pittsburgh is still the number two seed. Like Pittsburgh is still the division winner in that division, even though they have the same record. Even though- you But they play Baltimore at the end, don't they? Isn't that one of those? In week 17... That's the big week where everybody plays everybody. I don't think that they play each other in weeks.
00 Jake: They don't play each other in week 17. I think they played each other twice already. No. They played each other twice already. Justin: So they did that this year. So the NFL is very smart to say... You know what, we don b want any of these games that no one's playing for no reason. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna put everybody against everybody. Everybody division focused, every division focused. So we're against the Bills the last week, Dolphins against the Patriots. Jake: There's some really good games actually in the last week. Yeah, you have the Packers and Bears are gonna be playing in the NFC for that division for sure. Might not matter, but... It probably will. You'll have the big NFC West matchups because right now they're... Or Quinn Casey is the last week. Dallas Delio gets that spot. Right now the Rams are winning that division at 6-8, which is pathetic. Justin: Anyway, let's go back to the game. We'll get into the playoffs a bit. So lots of great stuff. Sanchez had a great day. Edwards had a great day. Jake: Coaches didn't have a great day. He had a good day. No, no, no Justin: I think what our quarterbacks I've seen our quarterbacks go into Pittsburgh and what happens to quarterbacks in Pittsburgh Jake: Anyday you go into Pittsburgh in the snow and you come out with zero turnovers and your team wins You have a great day. There's one thing that we haven't mentioned that that should be mentioned is that Palomolo was on the sideline. And Heath was on the sideline. Heath Miller was also on the sideline, but their tight end played well anyway. It didn't matter that Heath Miller was on the sideline. But Palomolo on the sideline makes an enormous difference with that team. You saw it last year when he didn't play, they didn't make the playoffs. Justin: They put the stat out there that they flipped the stat of when he plays. And literally they're a losing team when he's... He's not playing. He's that good. He is a difference maker. Yeah, having him not there was incredible. It's really because on a blitz, when he comes through the blitz, he can... I've seen that man jump an entire line to get through the guy. So yeah, oh well. But we're missing Leonard and Jenkins. And we'll play who's got the bigger injuries. That's huge for them. I would give us that Leonard is... is a massive injury for us. So give me your play and your night of the game. Jake: All right, so can I start with nights? Because I think that's where we usually start. Justin: No, usually your play, night, or night and play doesn't really matter. I'm not that bad. Jake: I am picking a unit. I'm doing a run-up. I'm doing runners-up, too. Oh, fine. Then I'm doing it, too. Because there's a lot of them. I'm picking a whole unit for my nights. So what's your runner-up unit? it. No, the whole unit, special teams gets my night. That's pretty good. Special teams won the game. Here's the deal. Kickoff return, touchdown. Other kickoff returns, very well returned, got good field position the whole game. Putt returns, Kottree did a great job, caught the ball every time, returned for, you know, probably, uh, I think it was. more than 10 average. He did really well. Folk made both field goals. Average 16. Yep. Folk made both field goals. In Heinz. Two for two. In Heinz field. Oh, they didn't try one longer than 35. Which is the right way to do it. Very smart.
00 Jake: And Weatherford pinned them every time he punted. And pinned them inside the five twice. Didn't, when you look at Weatherford's stats, they don't look great because the average is... only like 36 or 37 because he was basically because he was pinning them we would normally almost go for a field goal he was punting that's right so but when you get him down with the five it's huge so he did a great job and even on the last punt to get them down inside the 10 so I think all three of his punts were inside the 10. which is great. So special teams gets my night of the game. And no one tried to trip anybody. And no one tried to trip anybody. Which is yeah pretty good. So then who's your who that's your player. That's my night of the game. A whole set of nights. And I do have a backup night as well. I was gonna pick Brelyn Edwards. because he made some incredible catches. It's called your run up. Your runner up. It's my runner up now. Yeah, runner up. My runner up now. Should start with your runner up, but okay. What's your play of the game? My play of the game is the safety. Ah. It's a big play. Justin: I always love it when you pick an entire, you pick one side as your knight and then don't pick the play that that side did. It's like, why not pick the Brad Smith run run or the, or the, or the, or the, or the, Jake: Because they played collectively incredible as a whole. This is the end of the video. But the play of the game, the play that made that game not go to overtime, because the Steelers would have, with two seconds left, not thrown the ball into the end zone, they would have kicked the field goal and tied it and go to overtime, is the safety. Which got set up by a punt that was downed on the two. So, you know, Taylor made a great play, blew up the offensive line, went in there and just literally took the guy in. and threw him on the ground. Oh yeah. He didn't even tackle him. He's like, I'm gonna grab you and throw you as if I'm like your father in a swimming pool and you're five years old and I'm throwing you. I would say you see safeties a lot. Justin: I don't think you see a lot of running back safeties. You see a lot of- Jake: No, you see- Quar- Quar- You see holding in the end zone. You see guys doing intentional grounding. You see like those tech, you don't often see- But a running back moving forward. being stopped, picked up, and thrown backwards without crossing. All you had to do is, like you saw, the ball... Well, no, the whole ball has to cross the line. And the ball was halfway across the line. Close, but he didn't get there. No, no, no, but that's just impressive. Also, though, it was a silly play call. Why line up in the shotgun and hand it off? why not just now my take on first and ten from the two yard line with six foot five huge ass Ben Roethlisberger is you set up behind your center you snap the ball and you sneak for three yards because you'll get them that's my take on it you won't get a safety you sneak but I don't care they played it their way and they it's pretty much a run play it's a run play but not out of the shotgun it's not it's not and Taylor said they ran that play like three times during the game I knew what was coming I
01 Jake: knew exactly where to be I gambled and I got it so good for him good for him all right that's your ears all right well that was my play Yeah, now it was special teams. All special teams, including Mr. Westoff. Justin: My running up, my runners up play of the game is the Brad Smith star. I mean that just, it was so quick and so fast that you were like, what? We just started with seven. And you know, as I was, interesting note, as I was watching the Green Bay Packard game last night and you know they did that. they did the onside kick to start the game, got the ball and ended up only getting three points. And as I said to my wife, I said, you know, that's a great play and yes, if you get seven points, you get seven points. But it's not like by doing that play you didn't automatically get 21 points, right? You can only score at max, seven or eight if you go for it, on doing that play. while you get seven to start. And I think it gave the offense a little bit of like, oh my God, we don't have to come back immediately and we can score. And I think it gave the Pittsburgh Steelers a little bit of, oh wait, they're here to play. They're not just gonna, this isn't the team that hasn't scored a touchdown in two weeks or three weeks. This is a team that's ready to play. So that's my runner up. I actually think that the game changer to me, and not because we wouldn't have made the touchdown, I was certainly going to pick the safety that would have been very close. But I'm going to pick the not so naked boot. I thought that was a great, great play. Sold so well. Like if you're going to look at how well the sold, everybody. The cameraman, the coaches, the me, I was watching Sean Graham, like oh my god! And yeah, there's Sanchez running out to the left. And to that end, I'm actually, because I try to match my play and night of the game, I'm going to give it to two people. because I think these are two people who who needed this win more than the defense needed this win, more than Rex Ryan needed this win, more than Danian Tomlinson, who I think had a great game too. I mean, there was some players where I was like, oh, look at that guy go again. I can't believe this guy is as old and has watched everything. Couple of good third down runs. I'm gonna give it to the offensive coordinator quarterback combo because while they weren't, again. scoring tons of points, you know, it wasn't a massive blowout and it wasn't, you know, Santos didn't even throw a touchdown. The plays I thought were thought out. There were nuns, they were working, they stuck with what worked, they ran the ball effectively, they went for it when they thought it was good, they didn't do anything that I thought just put them in a position. Like not a lot of not a lot of big third downs, you know that kept us the third down short And again the whole thing about just punt winning when you got a chance so as an offensive game I know it wasn't perfect from a stats point of view but from a way to beat the Steelers Jake: That was a pretty perfect game. Yeah, and like I said last week
00 Jake: We don't get too up We don't get too down. We're even killed. We don't make judgments. Shoddy must go. You're giving him the night this week. Justin: I'm giving him, I'm giving him half a night. Half a night. I'm giving him Sanchez. The other thing about Sanchez is, this was a game where people said, you know what, you can't throw in the weather. Jake: You can't throw in outside. He threw a pretty good ball. Sanchez, I mean that's not- A couple of those throws to Edwards and credit Edwards for catch. Thanks so much. The one on the sideline was a really great throw and catch. And the one across the middle where I don't know how he even caught it, and how he like Sanchez avoided a rush, ducked down, side arm sort of slinged it, and Edwards just sort of reached out and grabbed it. It went by the defender. Justin: He had the defender's hands were one or two inches too high. It went below him and then Edwards picked it up. like four inches from the ground. Great catch, great throw. Great catch, and again, penalties? Not many. Not too many, no. Jake: You know, like not from a team that sometimes puts up a hundred yards and pounds. There were a couple that hurt, like a holding call early that hurt a big play. We also got some huge ones, we got that. Well the first field goal was, could've used. You know, we were down on a five, but a holding play brought back a big San Antonio Holmes catch. There's a couple holding plays here and there, a couple things here and there, but the Steelers were... You know, they had some stupid penalties too, like the 15-yard personal fouls and the... Oh yeah, I think they had two of them. Justin: Alright, so let's talk about some injuries. So that's the place of the game. Let's talk about some injuries. No new injuries. No new injuries. Jake: Let's talk about old injuries. Oh, you know just mentioned Woody was out. Turner played well. Justin: They turned play pretty well. Again, that's a defense that they have a guy who I think was Let's see the MVP defensive player of the year two years ago Harrison. Not Harrison. That was last year. Harrison. Oh Harrison. Sorry, I was thinking. Someone else named Woodson. Woodson was last year in Harrison. Wasn't he two years ago? Two years ago, yeah. Yeah, and he was a dominating monster. Jake: Not much. No, they didn't get too much pressure on Sanchez and Eric Smith. And when he does, he moves. That's what I like. Yeah, and Eric Smith didn't play. Hopefully we get him back just for the depth reason. Lowry just is not a He's not a safety. So it's hard to hard to really judge there that some of the blitzing maybe is off a little bit. Coleman had a really good game as a blitzer. I think he had two sacks for a stumble. That one where you actually... Ten tackles. I've never seen not Rosberg. Rosberg was usually the player that got taken down by, uh... by like five guys. Like he's just messing... There was one that Brian Thomas got by like a shoestring. Yeah, he just touched him and he just fell down. I thought that was great. Snagged his foot or something. Whatever. Good game. Not too many injuries, which is good. Let's talk about some other Kingdom. All right, two other games happen in the AFC East yesterday Yep And I know you watched one and didn't watch the other and I watched one and didn't watch the other and we watched the opposite So that's good. Well, I watched I watched three fourths of the other but okay Justin: I watched I watched the Dolphins Bills game because it was on one of the many screens in my house
03 Justin: Our apartment was broken into the Jets side and the Dolphins side yesterday and Again, the Dolphins are enigma, like they're a team, they don't score a lot of points and they play, you know, pretty good D, but they're the only team I think since 1992, they throw the stat out there and it's dark for me. Or at least the stat stuff, but I don't think the year stuff. Maybe 1992. That has won six road games. lost six home games. Like it's just stunning. Yeah they can't play at home. What is that? It's pathetic. I will make a joke in that I go down to the Dolphins Stadium every year and I watch a game down there. So I've been down there for years and years. I will say in the last couple years, this year, and maybe it's because the Jets weren't playing this year when I was down there. I was down there for the Chicago game. that I just was stunned by how much of a circus it was. It was like they're playing videos and celebrities and like, oh look, here's the celebrities coming into the game. That's Miami though. Well I know and I kind of, but part of me thinks like, hey guys, shh, football game going on. Jake: Well the same thing's going on, I know this is a football podcast, but with the Miami Heat, they, it You know, they had a campaign to get their fans there for the start of games. Like, they, you know, they signed LeBron James, they signed Chris Butz, they have these, all these stars. I understand you don't, but our fans probably do. They can't get their fans into the seats for tip-offs of basketball games, and they leave like in the middle of the fourth quarter, because it's just a place to go and be seen. hang out, have a cocktail, and then leave. Justin: So anyway, as I predicted, the bills won. I predicted both the win. Jake: We got all of our throne picks correct this week. Justin: Yeah, I don't think we did with the spread. Did you do with the spread? Did you get the new England game? You know, I didn't look at the, I probably didn't. Because I'm sure I covered the big packs. I covered by nine, yeah. Jake: I didn't look and see what we did on the... Justin: Well, we'll look at that on Thursday when we come back. But anyway. way. So I think two things came out of the game. It pisses me off that we lost to a team that gets beat by the Bills. One, the Dolphins are that bad. They're just inconsistent on offense. They need to fire their offensive coordinator, it says, every week. Every Dolphin fan I know agrees. I've literally polled them and they all say, I have a couple of friends and they're like, yeah. They got a fire that guy and get rid of Henny. So interesting note that came up yesterday One of the point teams that they say might be looking or Peter King announced that they might be looking for a quarterback They might be looking at someone like Donald nab. Here's Miami Dolphins McNab in Miami. Anyway, interesting don't care man Jake: He's washed up. Yeah. Yeah, that's like Dante Culpepper four years. Oh It didn't take two degrees. No, well, he had shoulder problems. So he was an injury risk. Let's take Culpepper but but but panic but Pennington isn't any who so Justin: So the two things that come out of that game are dolphins that bad pissed me that we lose them because we shouldn't have lost to them
03 Justin: and the Bills, are they good? Like, where are the Bills? Are the Bills a good team? Last six, four and two. So then we have a game against them that is going to matter now. There's no way it can't matter. Jake: No, that's absolutely factually incorrect. So tell me, all right, let's go on. So then New England barely beats the Rogerless Green Bank. That kid Flynn played. a great game. First off, I fucking hate the Pats. They get every break. They get a 50 yard kick return from an offensive lineman on a squib kick to an offensive lineman. He grabs it. He doesn't even want to return it. He just doesn't want to fumble. And then all of a sudden no one decides to tackle him. He gets it down to like the five yard line, ridiculous. Then an experience just showed up at the end of the game. The Packers needed a touchdown and there was like 20 something seconds left and it was third and I don't know 12-ish, 13-ish. They get a 10 yard play, it's fourth and two with 20 something seconds left. Kid doesn't have a play. He doesn't know what to do. Can't spike the ball, stop the clock. They don't have a timeout. They snap the ball with two seconds left, the last play of the game and he gets sacked. Like, Rogers doesn't make that mistake. They get the first down, they spike the ball, they have time. Pats get so lucky, it's so pathetic. Justin: I have one thing to bring up, and I hope this, I know because we had actually a great review on iTunes, reviews on iTunes, that said he loved that we always talk about the thing that he's thinking, but that, you know, no one else is talking about. Can we just bring up the one point that just brought up all the breaks? Was there not an incredibly bad spot? A whole yard that was given to the Steelers yesterday? A couple times. Like literally once was okay, I'll give it to you. But once was like they showed where they spot the ball and they gave the first down. Jake: It was a yard. Well they had to stop the game because the chain gang had it like second down. They're like what? You gave them a first down? That's not a... what? Justin: And I'm not a game changer. I'm not gonna be the fan that, well, A, we won. And if we lost, I wouldn't have gone back and be like, that yard's why we lost, because it wasn't. But, because it would have been second and whatever, second and one. But, you know, in a world that they're looking at one guy stick his knee out two inches to the left to knock a guy... Jake: and there's cameras everywhere. How could they get this stuff so wrong? Spotting the football has long been a thing that I've like how could that not be better at this point? But it was spotted correctly but it's game reversed. Spotting the football and like the yard like it's still I mean it's still a chain link. Like a link of chains that's ten yards long like how could that not be better digital yellow lines on the field That are unofficial because there's no way to like Like it's so arbitrary like a guy gets tackled outside the hash mark
00 Jake: The referee goes and puts his foot down where that that's where the ball is right. And then he throws the ball to the other guy Who puts it down? Justin: Right about where it is. Like, you know, near where it is. Like, it's so inexact science. But it is until it, see that's the thing. When you're first in ten and they run for five, it doesn't really matter exactly. Why not? Jake: If the second play is incomplete and the third play they get four and three quarters of a yard. But really that first play they should have gotten that last quarter in every... Every inch really does matter And you give it on any given Sunday, but anyway back to your question the Jets are 10 in 4 Okay, and right now. They're the six seats. Let's talk about playoffs playoffs right now so right now as of right now in the AFC We'll forget that I didn't wait for a second. Oh in the you know I did want to mention one thing before we went to the playoffs, not to be too scattered. But there was a game yesterday that is worth mentioning on this podcast that did not happen in the AFC. It happened in the NFC. But it happened in our home. And it happened in our home stadium. And I watched it and I watched the whole game with giant fans and that was fun Justin: I watched the whole game texting a Giants fan and I'll tell you the text I got and I know he doesn't listen to podcast That's okay. I catch them one point. It's a giant defense looking good and he goes best in the league or number one defense that was like around the third quarter Jake: yeah well they were up you know the Giants were up in case you guys are just AFC people and don't watch the Giants row one in the world has not seen this play I mean well forget the play they were up 24 3 and they were up 31 10 they're up 31 10 they give up a big play down the field or a touchdown and then they go to 31 17 with seven minutes left and the Giants fall asleep. They're still up two scores and they fall asleep. How could you not even, you don't have to have the hands team out there for an on-site kick. Just expect that it might happen. Right. And don't run backwards on the kickoff. Because that's what the other team is gonna do. Justin: I mean, you can honestly say, you gave the night to our special team. You can honestly say that their special teams have forever been Jake: Some of the worst special teams in the whole league. They don't get kick returns. They don't get punt returns They're there this year their punters just miserable. He's probably the worst punter in the league and he showed it I don't know why they don't cut him I don't get it. It's one of those McKnight situations where they spent a seventh round pick to pick them Yeah, and therefore feel the need to have kept him But since like he really he's lost them games this year forget this game. He lost them other games Justin: He didn't lose in this game in that they wouldn't have won otherwise because it was tied but thing that might have gone to overtime. Jake: When you have instructions as a punter with 14 seconds left and the game is tied 31-31 and you have instructions to don't kick the ball to that guy because he's one of the best kick punt returners in the league, he's that dangerous, kick it anywhere but to him and
01 Jake: you kick a line drive right at him. That's... Cuddle right there like well, he didn't happen is he didn't even think I snap he had to jump for the snap Justin: Oh well, and he was a rookie and didn't think that he could angle it right So he just wanted to get it off as opposed to getting sacked at the five and then having to getting Jake: honestly, he could have ran backwards and And and killed off eight seconds then kicked it up in the air and Had them get the ball at the Giants 40 with three seconds left would have been better. Anything but kicked the ball to that guy on a line drive nonetheless. He didn't even give his team a chance to get down the field to cover it. Because he didn't even catch it. The guy didn't catch it, right? He didn't even catch it, he dropped it, dicked it up, and still had time to make decisions on where to go. And then he pulled a Madden move and ran down the... whatever. Well, because he thought there was still time in the clock. He got terrible lost by the Giants Justin: I guess we got in tag with his suit and tie it would have been tied But that's kind of a ballsy move to not just get the touchdown to like well Jake: He's the biggest dickhead in the league. He's gonna drop the ball before the guy who dropped the ball the one He's the guy who last week decided to stop at the one and fall backwards and forget it This isn't giant kingdom, but I will say fans out there that's soft. Yeah, that's not the eye I feel you right Justin: There's flosses we've had like that I mean maybe not that bad that many points in that literal time for the number one defense or number two defense number two defense in the league but Vic is the real deal really good he ducked out of some plays. He looked like I tweeted somewhere during the middle of the beginning game because the Jets game wasn't on I tweeted has he lost the ability to throw the ball because his thing is make them think he's gonna run, someone's open, and wing it. And those receivers must have been so tired of just running down the field, and then Vic just sitting on the ball. Jake: Running on the field and sitting. He didn't throw the ball for the first half. The Giants had him figured out for about three and a half quarters, and then he erupted. That's all you need is one quarter. Anyway, let's go to the playoff situation. So, right now, the Jets, they actually... If you project it out, they don't need that Bills game because right now the Jets are 10 and 4 and There's only a couple teams that are actually behind them that can catch them in the in the wild card And those teams are 8 and 6 so they're two games back of the Jets So if the Jets win next week in Chicago the game in in Against Buffalo is irrelevant as far as the playoff Making the playoff picture is concerned because they are two games up on anyone who could catch them with two games So we have it locked so there's a chance there's no lock There's a chance we cannot make the play there is a chance because there are there are two teams that well There are two teams. So the way it works the way it is is Kansas City right now is ahead of of San Diego. They are 9-5, San Diego is 8-6. And then in the south, Indianapolis, who won yesterday over Jacksonville, they're both 8-6.
03 Jake: So, one team from each of those divisions has to make the playoffs by virtue of winning their division. Indy can win their division at 10-6. and Kansas City could win their division at potentially 11 and 5 right at that point you have Jacksonville and San Diego who are both 8 and 6 right now and the Jets are tenants are are 10 and 4 so they're two games ahead with two games left. So the Jets win one game next week win one game win one and you're in regardless when you're in that's all you ask for and if you win one next week you could you can take the next week off you can you know you don't you know there's nothing to necessarily play for because well it Justin: don't matter what the other teams do right so so right now if the players Jake: were to start you know, this coming week, this coming Sunday, in the AFC, the Pats would be the one seed, the Steelers would be the two seed, so they would have buys. The Jets would be the six, and they would travel to Kansas City, and the Ravens would be the five, and they would travel to the Colts. And the five and the six would both have better records than the three and the four. Right. the home teams would actually have worse records and potentially be underdogs in their games if you're a betting man. I'd still rather go to Indy. I'd rather go to a team that I know. Justin: Don't go to a team you don't know. I'd rather play Kansas City. Going back to Indy. I'd rather not play Peyton Manning. I'd rather play Mac Cass. I don't care. We had Peyton Manning last year and we'd have him again this year. Again, Camardio on the other side even though Crow is... He's not the greatest there ever was, but he's good enough that this year I think we can cover him. KC, I guess, I mean, I just don't like going to KC on a team we haven't played in a while that we just don't know. We just don't know the team. There's something about knowing a team that helps. It's my underlying feeling. I don't know. Jake: We just lost to Miami and we know them pretty well. We just lost to New England and we know them pretty well. Yeah. Well, I would say the other way around. They know us. Yes. Justin: Same thing. Okay, so we got one odd thing to say. Old segment called, I haven't done in a while because I've forgotten about it, but it's called Old Pole New Pole. So I put up a poll on www.checkkingham.com and I closed down the old poll. So the old poll was... This is... rate the New Meadowlands Stadium. So it's still a pride all season long because it's the beginning season. And 40% of you people out there think it's great, which is nice. Although 16% think it's an epic fail. Jake: What? The New Meadowlands Stadium. Oh, the New Meadowlands. It's pretty good. I mean, from a whole field perspective, we haven't really gotten much of that. just yet because we're way better on the road. I don't think anybody has that's what's weird.
02 Jake: It is. It's like the sports guy has a thing about this where new state-of-the-art stadiums take some of the home field advantage actually away because they're like you know the fans aren't as for some reason on top of the field and there's more things to do and there's more cushy seats so like more cushy people are there and like it's more expensive so like you don't get that same raucous crowds on top of your ass feeling when you're at these new state-of-the-art stadiums. Justin: So in the new... New Pole is actually inspired by you, which is are the Jets a better wild card team? Not actually gonna, it doesn't even matter because we are a wild card team. There's still like a mathematical chance that, is there a mathematical chance that Jake: the Patriots lose out and we win out and then it's a tiebreaker by some kind of... I have no idea at this point how that would work. It's 10 and, they're 12 and 12 and 2, we're 10 and 4. I mean they would have to lose both of their games. Justin: We'd have to win both of our games and both their games against AFC East opponents I think we would get it because it goes division first Jake: I guess it would we would we would be four and two in the division division. They are right now Well, I think three and one and don't they have they have both of their games are division games Justin: I think they're three and one of the vision. They would be three and three division Jake: We would be so we actually would win that so there's still a chance and it could be Buffalo and Miami and we would If that were to happen, I think we'd actually end up with one of the top two seeds. Right. A home game. Which would mean a bye and a home game, which is what Justin doesn't want. So that's the poll this week. So it's still possible, still mathematical possible. Which people think I'm nuts for, by the way. Including you, including other people. They think I'm absolutely insane for not wanting home field. throughout the bus. And a buy. Yeah. Although, I think there's... Don't think it's necessary. My logic is sound. I think your logic is sound. We suck at a buy, and we have one offer buy, and we're better at having four days to prepare. You're right. Let me throw this at you. Okay. Then we gotta wrap it up. We will wrap it up after I throw this at you. I didn't realize this till yesterday. The jets are 10 and 4. You didn't realize that until you... No, no, no. Good. 10 and 0 when they score a touchdown 10 and 0 when we score a touchdown 0 and 4 when we don't score a touchdown That's kind of like one of those statistics that it's self self propagated if you were to say You're gonna win every game you score a touchdown in but you're gonna lose every game that you don't score a touchdown Think that points are defense and that's not odd though. You're gonna win that every game that you score a touchdown in, wouldn't you think you'd be like 13-1? Great. Justin: So if we go to Chicago, which we'll come back on Thursday and talk about, if we go to Chicago and we score a touchdown, I'll turn off the TV. Like, we won. We won. We're gonna win. Jake: I was gonna turn it off after the Brad Smith return. I was like, this game's over. Justin: Done and done. Alrighty. So if you want to vote in the new poll, go to JetKingdom.com and there's the poll right there on the side. You can go to JetKingdom.com. quick on the yes or no so is are the Jets a better wild card team as always
