11 Justin: are high. Get used to it. It's always gonna be that way. Jake: Welcome to the Jack King podcast. As always, on the side of the digital aisle, it's Jake joining me in his very yellow... It's an Ollie G t-shirt. Ollie G t-shirt. Respect. And with his beer in hand is Justin. Justin, how you doing buddy? Nice. That was the ology snap. That was sweet. We got a big agenda today. We do. We're gonna talk about some winning. Hey hey. Some good old-fashioned winning, but winning dirty. Dirty winning. We're gonna talk about the Browns game. We're gonna talk about some injuries and key moves. We're gonna pick a night to the game before we talk about injuries and key moves. We're gonna talk about what happened in the other kingdoms. Do our pick them. Which for those of you joining us for the very first time we pick every game of the NFL all in our jet kingdom Pick them against the spread and or with the spread and then we also picked the throne picks Which is where we picked the AFC each AFC East matchups easy for me to say And that one we get a little bit more in-depth on those and actually give a score for those so Happy, happy Joy, Joy. Talk to me about the Browns game. Big win, 26-20 in overtime. 30 seconds left in overtime. By the way, here's something I didn't know. Tell me something, buddy. I didn't know there wasn't a double overtime. Justin: You don't know a lot of things then. Jake: I literally, it's been so rare that a team actually, that it goes to tie. I think it happened like four years ago, Pitt, Cincy. Two years ago. How do you not know the rules? I thought it was double. I thought it was double overtime all the way. You don't know anything. Clearly not. So we were watching the game. It was getting down to about two minutes left in the game. Yeah, it was. And Sarah, my wife, is actually looking up on her phone to figure out what the rules were. What's wrong with you guys? I know I know the rules you could have texted me you weren't texting very much. I was on Twitter I was not on Twitter. I was on Twitter a little bit. I was out Justin: I didn't I don't want to be on Twitter during the games anymore by a little bit Jake: I'm hard like 150 tweets, so they died and so no it was awesome It was good because it felt like a conversation. They were literally like a conversation, but it's a social conversation. It's annoying Alright, well this was a win. Let's talk about the game. Justin: Win is a win is a win. You know, this is the first time... I know it's the first time we've done it. It might be the first time in NFL history, fact checker please check, that a team has gone on the road and won back-to-back overtime games on the road.
03 Justin: We were fing... *Jake: 5-0 on the road this year where 80 know if you include the Justin: Right end of last end of last right your season although didn't win two playoff games as well. Yeah on the road We're good road team defensive running travels. Yeah, I think I said that last week. I said it again Jake: I think I said it now. I just said it Justin: So tell me a little about it. What do you think? This was not the game we thought it was going to be. I was so annoyed because we dominated them. We really did dominate. We dominated the whole game. It was dominated by the Jets offense. And we had the ball. I'm gonna look at the official stats right now. 47 minutes. Yeah, we had the ball for like 48, 49 minutes and they had the ball for like 29 minutes or something. 47, 08 and they had 27, 36. That is domination. I mean, if you look at a few numbers, you would be like, oh, the Jets dominated that game. That's one of them. 47 to 27. 7. You look at rushing yards 172 to 107. You look at total number of plays, Jets 91, Cleveland 59, yards 456 to 303. I mean we did a number on them but I was very disappointed in the defense on that last drive. We let a rookie quarterback go down the field. and score a touchdown and tie the game in the last minute. It was really quite annoying. Here's the problem. Jake: What team is the Browns? Who are they? I think they're good. That's the thing. I think they're a good team. I think we played a good team and we beat a good team. This is, I feel like, a win. I know this is bad because they're three and six now. and they're not the Colts, they're not the Patriots, they're not the Steelers, but I think we should look at this team, this game and say, we just beat a good team. We beat a team that has the ability to beat good teams. Justin: They're on a roll too, because they beat New Orleans. They were on a roll. They beat New Orleans. They were rolling. They beat New England. And they hit us. And then they lost us in overtime. I think they're still on a roll. Jake: You would still consider this on a roll? Justin: Yeah, I think a loss like that for Cleveland, they have to take that as. we played pretty good. Yeah. Now here's the thing, we did some of the things that we said we that the Jets needed to do. They for the most part stopped Peyton Hillis and they sort of did it with their offense by keeping him off the field. Well they stopped him in the second half. The first half he was running wild. But they made adjustments and he didn't rush for a hundred yards. They they could not throw the ball. Anywhere but over the middle so we need to work on that a little bit that short crossing Jake: I'll say my game is is hurting us a little I'll tell you who's gonna destroy us if we don't fight for you Last Walker. Yeah, they're gonna see they got nothing else. They got nothing else Brandon taking going anywhere There it's that that's the game
00 Jake: I think Rebus might have to cover Wasp Walker in that game. Might. Might do it. I think he might have to. I mean the corners played well. They got no one else and once Cribs went out. Justin: No, he's not that good anyway. Jake: Well he, you know. Justin: Chancey Stuckey is still playing for the Jets. Jake: I love that. He is still playing that. So let's talk about some of the key things. This is why I think this game is misleading. Here's the thing. It's 2620. See? That should have been the regular the regular over the regular score Not over time and I'll tell you why We missed three field goals that should have been we should we could have missed one field goal maybe but to miss To miss three field goals. That's nine points should have with should have missed You know should have missed one maybe because the wind was crazy the 48 was a tough one Right, but Sorry, we just got some mail Justin: It looks like it looks like money so well money is good and a bill Jake: Whatever some in some in some out. So that's the thing like I think that game 2620 should have been the regular Ending that shouldn't because we should have gotten those two field goals and we would have been ahead and they would have scored a touchdown but not you know Justin: Nick Folkman missed an extra point. Like that one field goal was ridiculous. How do you miss? But I was sitting there with my buddy watching the game. The Giants buddy, right? No, I had one Jets buddy over and four Giants buddies. So there were six buddies. Jake: So they were happy, happy, happy, happy, and then the world collapsed. Justin: And it was kind of annoying because we got into an argument during the Jets game that... About the Giants? Well, because... some of these giant fans that sit there actually root against the Jets because they're giant fans and I don't really understand that and they're like well why would I root for the Jets? I'm like you don't have to root for the Jets just don't root against them. I just don't get it like I don't root against the Giants I root for them and I don't. You root for them? Yeah when I watch them I roof for them nothing that the Giants can do impacts the Jets Whatsoever. They're in the NFC, nothing they do. When they win, that doesn't impact the Jets. When they lose, that could impact the Jets if they're playing like an AFC team. So I generally root for the Giants. Jake: I generally would, except for every year I make a bet with a big Giants fan and we match up Jets versus Giants. And so we have like... 12 categories. The usual bet? The usual bet. And we match up like defense and offense and pro bowlers and like... Well here's the problem is, once I've made that bet, I'm basically rooting to win the bet. Justin: So I was watching the game... My buddy and I were sitting there and we noticed that on his first field goal was from the right hash mark and he just made it... No he just made it through... the right, through the right side of the upright. And we said to each other, he's not gonna make field goals from the right hash mark today. And then the second one was from the right,
00 Justin: he made the second one, I think. The one that he missed was from the right hash mark, a 24 yarder, and it just never got left. It just hit the pole. And then he was screwed from there. And then he pushed one way right. Jake: The Sanchez, or the Sanchez, was saying about the field in the post game. He was saying, you know, it's deceptive because the wind where you were was one thing. But the wind at the end of the field was another because of the way the stadium was built. So he's saying, like, you could think, oh, hmm, no wind here. Justin: But then down there, there was wind. It was certainly windy because you could tell in the kick off. Some of them were going like. It. Into the end zone and somewhere getting to like the 10 so it was definitely windy, but I don't know I'm I'm Personally all about cutting kickers when they could cause you games even if they don't cause you the game I'm all about cutting kickers, so I would cut Nick folk this week really yeah I think the I'm all about cutting kickers No, he had a really bad game. He had a really bad game. Jake: Anything else you want to highlight before I pick our Knights and plays the game? Justin: No, I'm ready to pick them. Go ahead, give me your Knight and play of the game. So, all right, I will pick my Knight, Mark Sanchez. Wow, I don't think you've ever given him credit. Jake: pick Marc Sanchez. I tweeted this today I said I don't know if you saw it I said I didn't. The legend of Marc Sanchez is being written before our eyes. Last night's game will be a paragraph like he played a game that I It's like the kind of game you look at and you're like, it's a story game. The guy got hurt, he came back, he limps around, he scrambles and does stuff that you like... Justin: He avoided a number of sacks. Huge sacks. Which were enormous. Made some throws on the run. Made an incredibly smart play, which is going to be my play of the game. He... I know, I know. He... Really played well like he had a really solid game ran the offense pretty well I mean they had a couple of really good drives that didn't end up in points because the crappy kicker, right? But although I think you need to finish some of those you need to finish life in 10 minutes. I'm sorry You're gonna finish it lunch when you get there don't like have a snack I get it lunch, but you know what points are points and when they don't get put on the board. That's no good. So I never pick Sanchez, so I'm gonna pick Sanchez. I think he had a great game. I think he really had a great game. I think he had a great game. Jake: I think he had a great games.
01 Jake: Like these are two games now where in the final minutes when you need the guy to do the thing, right? When they always put that stat about Brady or Roffelstberger or. or Manning, like the has led the team to X amount of wins in fourth quarter. Fourth quarter come behind wins. Far, he has a million of them, right? Not one yesterday. But anyway, and that stats important. It like shows, because here's the thing, it's not just that the player can do it, because I think most of the players have the physical talent to do a lot of things, same things. It's about your team believing that you can do it. And if the team believes you can do it, then the guy who's hurt, who's living around the field and gets a signal will go and try to make a catch because he knows you're gonna do it. And I think there's like a team thing about, I think when the people get in the huddle with Brady or Manning or or Raffasberger and I think coming up with Sanchez now and he says, come on guys, we're gonna do this. They believe him. Are you gonna let me keep going? Yeah, I know. I'm just gonna keep trying. Justin: I'm just, I just, I. I'm roster baiting. You are roster baiting. So yeah, good on you Sanchez. Jake: Can I pick two plays in the game? Only if you don't pick, your second pick isn't my pick. Well, I could pick two because I have to go to the third. There's another play. There's three plays. There's three awesome plays. Justin: So my first play, the play I want to highlight, runner up. No, no, the actual play. The runner up first. Runner up is going to be Kachri's catch. That you can see him. He didn't know on the replay, they didn't show the whole replay until a little bit later. But Sanchez avoids a sack, rolls out to his left, goes back across his right, and Khatri clearly pulls his groin in the middle of the play, running his route, and then makes some sort of ridiculous catch. So I've gotten on country for missing the ball, but he did not do that yesterday He had a great day. I think I tweeted welcome back, country. Welcome back. How was your vacation? You'll be off for the next couple of weeks. Because that did not look good. So that play was amazing. That would have been my play. So my real play. Jake: Well, let me talk about it a little bit. He goes, he literally limps one way. He was going the opposite direction, sees Sanchez, Sanchez motions to him. They whips it to him. He comes back the other way on a pole groin and then makes not just a catch. Diving catch. A diving. Unbelievable catch rolls under it. They didn't even think it was a catch catches the ball country gets for every missed catch he's had that one just creative. That was a great question. Yeah, well he was wide open on that Justin: That was a great throw So my real play the game was an incredibly smart play by Mark Sanchez Yeah, where you really think that this was what you think it is No, but it was still an incredibly smart, savvy play. What Mark Sanchez did was like third in whatever it was, third in long, and they call a pass play from their own 50 or so,
01 Justin: and Sanchez has nothing open. So he sees Braylon Edwards deep, man coverage, he's just going to throw it up. Because he knows in Denver when he did that, he drew a flag and they got the ball on the 1-2 yard line. So why not if you have a guy who's big like Braylon Edwards just chuck it down the field. It's a smart play. So he chucks it down the field and the Cleveland guy... intercepts it at the two which turns out to be a fantastic punt because it was third and long you may as well throw it deep if Braelyn catches it awesome you win the game if the Cleveland guy catches it great you pinned him at the two with you know a minute and change left and you have a chance to get the ball back so that's what happened Sanchez chucks it down the field the Cleveland guy intercepts it. In the heat of the moment, he probably should have added it down, but it didn't really matter I mean you're gonna punt there anyway. But you wouldn't on third down. That's the thing. Well on third down Jake: You can bat that down because they're not going for it on fourth. But anyway, well, that's what that's what he said in the press conference afterwards. I thought was really interesting. He says You gotta get TiVo or something so you get TiVo these things. Yeah, I do. I don't watch these things Really good. He says Because on fourth down the guy bats it down because he knows the desperation Sure. But on, on, on, cause he knows if you bat it down it goes back to where he was. Right. But it's not fourth down so he shouldn't have batted it down, he should have caught it. Well I'm fourth. Because then they get another shot. So if he bats it down on the third. Justin: Well they're not going to go for it there, they're on the, they're on the 45. But you don't know, you give him another shot. 35 yards. Jake: On the fourth down you have to bat it down because if you catch it that's where it sits. But on third down, they still have another shot. Justin: Regardless, it was a very smart play because even though it was an interception, that's a fine interception, that's a good interception. It turned out to be just a great punt which allowed us to get the ball back, which set up for what I'm assuming you're playing the game in. Jake: Well, my player of the game, my runner-up is Kajri. Okay, who's your knight? My knight of the game is Centennial Holmes. And the reason is only for this game and for last game, because if you look at what's happened now in two games now, in overtime, when the catch needs to be had and something needs to have been special, he's been the guy. You can't discount that. Like... That's incredible stuff. That Super Bowl MVP type stuff. I was screaming the top of my lungs. That's why we picked up the Super Bowl. I mean, I literally, I lost my mind in my house. I don't like watching. You lose your mind all the time. I do not like watching games at home. Why there's like five and 0 when you watch it at home? I will, I probably lose my mind. I can't sit, I'm screaming. At least at the stadium, I can go crazy. And it's okay, because there's 80,000 people going crazy. But at the home, like my wife is sitting there, my kid is sitting there, I can't swear like a banshee.
01 Jake: Oh, I'll tell you one other thing, quick little thing. You can swear, but you have to put money in the jar. Yeah, a dollar, I would've, I would've done millions if I had done that. So here's one thing, there was a thing on, you know, for the penalties last week. They made all the... players do 10 pushups per penalty. And Woody. Yes, everybody did it. So on Facebook, Alan, I forgot his first name, Eric Allen, who does kind of the coverage stuff. Eric Allen's a former player. I know, he puts up, but he does like a reporting from whatever thing on Facebook book for the Jets. So he did, I thought this was funny, they had 67 panels. in the last whatever games. So him and two other people recorded a video of them doing over an hour 670 pushups. Oh my God. It was a lot, it was a great video. You should go see it, it's on Facebook, on the Jets page. So on the end of it he goes, you guys should help out. And so on Facebook I typed, all right, for every penalty the Jets get, I'll drop and give 10. So as I was tweeting during the game, I literally said I'm going to drop and give 10 every time the Jets give the game 10. 10 penalties. 100 push-ups during the game. Way to be. I will say I got my wife to do it for Dolphins penalties. She had 70. Justin: Is this a ploy to get the wife into shape? What's going on here? I don't know. It was hysterical. Not that the wife is not in shape because she might listen. Yes, she does. In great shape. She got the guns going. She's got the guns. Jake: Anyway, I did 100 pushups during the game. Side note. Back to the game. Santoni Holmes, I'm sorry, but it's the reason we got him. It's incredible. Sanchez should get the knife for the game, but this is the second week in a row that this guy bails us out. Justin: I know. Isn't that cool? He makes these enormous plays. And again... Why are they playing off of him? That was weird. Like it was... First off, your play, your night of the game is going to lead to the play of the game. Which is the last game of the game. Right, right. But Jimbo with the big punt return with like, you know, there wasn't a whole lot of time there and he got like, he had 47 seconds or something. And he got like a 15-20 yard punt return which actually allowed us to run a play like that. Right. Otherwise you couldn't run a play like that. because really that play was likely designed to set up a field goal but San Antonio just broke through. Can we talk about two other things? So San Tony Jake: Holmes the play, the man, the myth, the legend, that's why this podcast is actually entitled... what did I tell you? Oh, you crazy Holmes. You crazy Holmes. That was good. Um, can we talk about a few things? Ciao please. Ciao please. Eat the veal. Can we talk about the man genius? Yeah. What about him? So, tell me why. Go on. At the beginning, at the end of the game, when you're backed up in your own end zone, stop playing with a cord, uh, there's two ways to go for it. You're gonna win the game, so not in overtime, end of regulation. You're going to win the game because you're tied and you're going to go overtime by
01 Jake: passing out and trying to get first downs and go down and kick the field goal and win the game or You're just you're like you're so backed up. I'm gonna run it. I'm gonna run it. I'm gonna run it He passes it first Doesn't make the pass. Justin: You're talking about the last drive of the game. Jake: For the Browns. The second to last drive of the game. To the Browns. Right. He passes it first. So you basically said, you've committed to saying, and again, if this were the Jets, I'd be really about this part. Yeah, we were talking about this in my opinion. You're basically saying, I'm going for it. I'm trying to win the game. Right. Okay, but if you say that on first down, guess what? You gotta do it on second and third. Second and third. Maybe not fourth. But yeah, second and third, you're gonna do it. then he runs it for two boys and kicks it away. Justin: Yeah, I think what he realized was, on first down I'm going to try and go for it, and if I don't do anything, I'm going to try and then just, you know, get myself some space on second down, and then try and move, but they didn't get any space. And then on third down, I mean, they did try and pass it, we just sacked them. Right. So, I mean... They were trying to win the game. Everyone at my place where we were watching was, they should just try and run the clock out and go for a tie. The Jets only had one timeout left. And that's, I mean, that's not really what happened. That's why the play by Sanchez to throw it down to the one was so great. Because it was as good a punt as you could possibly hope for. at that time in the game. Because you gave them, you put the onus on Cleveland to decide what they wanted to do, and made them make a choice, and they made the wrong decision. I mean, I don't know if there's really a right decision. I think the right decision there is to- Go for a tie, play for a tie, that's not playing to win the game. You got to play to win the game. Then you throw it for three downs. And you whip the ball. Yeah. I'm sorry. I was actually surprised that- Rex didn't call timeout after the second down, but he actually wisely saved it. It was smart. It didn't matter. I mean the same amount of time would have ran off. We sacked him and we couldn't stop the clock anyway. But you know what? This was a sloppy win because I felt like we should have won 20 to 13 or... 26-13 or something but you know what we we ended up winning the game and a win is a win and we are seven and two and on top of the AFC. We're on top of the AFC. Number one team in AFC. I will say Jake: that in the there are games that you look back and you think big game there are games you look back and they're like change I think we'll just look back to this game to say we beat a good team and at the end You're right, we're only, we're seven and two, and that's it. I don't think they'll look, because it's 26-20, people aren't gonna look at that score and be like, oh my god, they're gonna say 26-20, they won the game. Good teams win, and they win ugly, and that's it. They just win. And to think that last year we won nine games. I think we forget that. We were a great, we were a good team who got better, who had a defense, who got us the playoffs, and who met two teams who laid down
01 Jake: at the end of the season. For more information, visit us at www.fema.gov We got the playoffs and we made some shit happen. We've won seven of nine. We're two away from winning the same amount we won last year and there's a chance that we could be over the double digits. Go to the 10 or 11 team. Justin: I think looking at it, looking at the rest of the year, I think 12 and 4 is somewhat realistic. Jake: I want to see some home wins. Our two losses are at home. just Justin: And there were bad losses too. Jake: And the bad losses. One point's okay, I'll give the one point. But the second one, I don't like it. That was a bad loss. I don't like that one. So okay. Gotta play this game. Got the Browns game review. Got the Knights in. Well, we didn't even talk about his injury. We didn't talk the injuries. So I think Slauson went out. Slauson did go out. Think well Sanchez went out. It's a calf not a big deal haven't heard today But we country is hurt so I treat pull probably me out for a couple of couple couple games Justin: Did you see broad new pool in this game? What happened? I? Jake: Didn't see him a lot now so a lot of Eric Smith getting burnt Well Eric's he's a toast Eric Smith was in but then left hurt with a, with like a... Justin: I was cheering when he got hurt. I was, I was... I don't care if he'll get hurt. I was, I wasn't cheering. I was like, okay, fine, good. He's out of the game. We had, I was sick of seeing him get burned. We had a Kyle Wilson sighting. We did. He made a good tackle on the great down. Derek Coleman re, you know, came back off last week's really bad game and made the big play in the... Jake: And Rebus and Kamarne, basically, no one said their name is ever Kamarne. He got the fumble and... Justin: There was no, they don't have her seen. That whatever they don't have anybody this next week though Jake: We tested yeah, I shall like cuz I think it's time for them to get well Justin: It's time to revisit to go out there on the Johnson and do some damage which he's done before yes, all right Jake: Let's talk about some other kingdoms. Well. It gives the other king. Let's go buffalo No one circles the wagons like the one in eight Justin: Bill's they got their win they did and we predicted it we did well You know I was gonna predict a Buffalo win for the rest of the year until they got it Jake: Okay, so you're happy because they got the win I like Buffalo a little bit Justin: Oh my god, it's the game you said oh, I see it's a little like I have a little like as long as they're bad I like them like you know what I mean Jake: Miami goes down actually had they had Who was a good win for them? Tennessee at home, here's a crazy thing. So I'm, you know, in my house. Justin: Miami's schizophrenic. Jake: I watch not one but three games at the same time. I have three TVs set up for football. Yes, a little crazy, but it happens. So up on TV screen number three is the Dolphins game for the wife. She's watching it. And so I'm kind of paying attention. The more the Jets are winning, the more I pay attention. The more they're losing, the more I don't even care. Chad Pennington got sacked and fell and went out after two plays. Justin: Didn't even look bad. Jake: Two plays, gone. It didn't even look like he got hurt. Penny comes in after being sat for Chad Pennington, then gets hurt with a knee.
01 Justin: You know Chad got a $200,000 bonus for playing in that game. He did. Chad Pennington has a clause in his contract. Every game he plays he gets $200,000. Jake: Well, that's the last one he'll ever play. Sucks for him. Henny comes in, gets hurt, they throw in Figpen. That's the guy who I said they should have started. Basically, they won the game. They lost their... they had us. The year that we lost Pennington and the... Jay Feedler. And the Feedler. Right? And they won the game. They played... Wow. I mean, their defense stood up enough. They stopped Chris Johnson enough. Although the other team lost their quarterback too, and Vince Young came back in. Yeah, and he looked pretty awful. So I think the Dolphins, you know, five and four. Justin: I'm not out of it, but it's close. Jake: I think it's not out of it. And I don't think they have a little bit more to play with now. Justin: Tennessee's five and four. in a division with the Colts, I was really hoping the Colts were going to lose yesterday. Why? Because I just don't want the Colts to make the playoffs. They're going to make the playoffs. I know. We'll see. Listen, I'm not afraid of the Colts. Jake: Not the way they're playing this year. Anyway, and then New England keeps on winning. They win in the steel. Justin: Well, they win after losses. They don't lose. Jake: after losses. I thought they wouldn't win this game. I thought, at Stee Jets are on top of the entire AFC. It's a little scary, I don't like that. I'd rather it be like one or two. Justin: No, every time, every week of this season, like over the last bunch of weeks, there's like the new best team in the NFL and that team always loses the next week. Like the Giants were that team last week. Can we talk a little bit about the Giants? the Giants and the New Meadowlands power outage yesterday. Jake: So that was what they said was a me. They came from Jersey. So Jersey once again can't keep the power on. Nope, they suck. Our friend lives in whatever, down on the shore. Brick County. And literally loses his power once a month. So I don't know what's going on down there. That was funny, whatever. But what's not funny is having the one in seven Dallas Cowboys come into your house and spank you. The Giants got the Cowboys. on a bad week. And I think it's the thing that was going to happen. I didn't pick the Cowboys that went out, right? But I did pick them with the 14 points because I thought I just don't think. Justin: I did the same. Jake: Yeah. And I lost on the straight pick, but I got the. But I got the 14 points in the Cowboys. Justin: I only pick spreads. I don't pick these outright things. Yeah. I don't know what you're talking about. Jake: I don't know. It's just a bad day when Kitna comes in and. Oh, the Giants defense look horrible. It's amazing how he like always puts up good. The Cowboys could lose. 500 to 0 and Eli Manning would have 450 yards and 3 touchdowns. You mean the Giants could have lost? The Giants could lose 400 to 0 and he somehow he'd rack up 400 yards.
02 Justin: Well when you're losing you have to throw so you have to throw. And he's got really good receivers. He's got really good receivers. I mean, Kim Nix is awesome. Manningham's okay and when Steve Smith's healthy and that's probably why they lost. I mean, Steve Smith is a big weapon for them and not having him on the field, especially against the Cowboys who he kills, is a big thing. So he's like Eli's safety net. He's his five yard guy. He's his third down guy. He's his Jericho Cottrey. Jake: So tell me a little bit about how the conversation went, because I didn't have any Giants fans around to rather be honest. I had four of them. Justin: It was awesome. Jake: So did you start off the conversation with the Giants haven't beaten anybody good? Yeah And did they all tell you to go stuff? Justin: Yeah, you know what they do? I said I'm gonna make a statement The Giants haven't beaten one good team this year And instead of defending the Giants they attack the Jets Really? Which is like not what I would think a Giants fan would do Like that's not a good reaction Like you don't wanna, don't attack the Jets for something I said Just defend your Giants. Oh you can't because they literally haven't beaten anyone. Well now they've lost to someone who's bad. The only team that they've beaten with a record is Chicago but they suck at 6 and 3. I don't care that they're 6 and 3. They're the worst 6 and 3 team in the world. The Bills are the best 1 and 18. The Bills would beat Chicago if they played again tomorrow. The Bills? If the Bills... Wait, if Chicago and Cowboys play the Bills... They beat Carolina, they're the worst team in the league. I mean, they lost to Tennessee, they lost to Andy, they split with the Cowboys, and that's fine, that's a division game, I mean, that's fine. But, I don't know, they were like the best team in the league last week. Now they're... Oh, I can't wait to see them drop like a... I can't wait for them to go eat Nate like I said they would I don't know the problem is they still have to play Philly twice they'll lose one of those they're playing next week on Sunday night. They still have to play Washington To play Washington twice these division games are but they're five and three they're not you know, they're not out of anything I mean, the Giants are 6-3. Sorry. They're on top of their division and they'll make the playoffs fine, but I don't think they're going anywhere. Did you look at Tom Coughlin's record, his starting record versus his? Yes. That was horrible. Horrible. Well, last year they were 5-0, they were 6-2, and then they were 8-8. So not a good way to go. Not good. And being beaten around like rag dolls against the Cowboys who had John Kintna, who they made look like Troy Aikman. It was absolutely ridiculous. They just play like a roller coaster. Like they'll either play lights out, right? Jake: Lights out football or they just play like, I cannot believe it. And to throw the longest, to throw the worst pick in the history of the... That was a bad... Oh right on the end zone. Right? Oh, you know that the 14 point pick. All right moving right along moving right along
00 Jake: All right, let's do some pickums. How do we do last week? Well, there's one game. So there's still one game Who do you have tonight? Do you remember I could look it up tonight I Tonight your night, bro, I'm not even sure this evening who I have I'm sure I have Justin: Have Philly as well, so we will end up tying this week Because I change my pick right now unless you change your pick right now that so last week Everyone's tied at six so far. We all not a great week. Oh I had six you had six everyone else has six and Overall Mike is still winning 78 and 59 a very good record I have 73 and 64 not too shabby and you are bringing up the rear edge Jake: 60 so not that one of the a hooligans the hun douche. Bag factor was actually one a week peg and I mean There's a whole bunch people you just stink though. I'm doing 66 and 71 listen pain train zero and 137 so So one of the guys I was texting with yesterday was actually Oh, he said he was on the pics with me. Now I don't remember his name. Oh, too bad. Anyway. Alright, so. So here's the problem with today's pics. What's wrong with today's pics? We don't have lines. We don't have lines. Well, we do have lines. I'm going to keep open the lines. There's early lines out, so some of them are no lines. Yeah, we have lines. They're not in the thing. Yeah, but we have I mean, I that's what I'm saying. I'm gonna stay on the oak. I'll stay on the I got it Justin: All right, you got lines. All right, go for it. We'll go through this Jake: so we're gonna pick every team every game without the AFC East with the spread and then we'll go back and pick the With scores AFC's get matchups called their own things, right? So we'll start off with the Dallas Justin: game. They are home at Jerry World coming back after their big win against the Giants and they're facing Detroit who goes on the road and still can't win on the road. They now broke their own record for futility on the road and Dallas is giving seven points to that Detroit Lions team. I'm gonna go ahead and pick Detroit. I think it'll be closer than seven points. Not sure who's gonna win but Dallas can't... They're just not that good. So I'm gonna go ahead and pick the trick. I'll pick Dallas at home Jake: I think Detroit's not that good either and they don't get their quarterback back. They look bad yesterday without the quarterback I say they go down in a flamethrower. Alright, our next game is Justin: It's off right now because it includes a Monday night team. So it's Tennessee home against Washington. She doesn't have a line Maybe we can play a little game here and just pick the we'll guess the lines Okay, so I mean we don't know what's gonna happen tonight. Tansy's gonna lose. I mean Washington's gonna lose So I'm gonna pick Tennessee at home I'm gonna pick them by three and a half Jake: I'm gonna pick up anyway Tennessee at home. Yeah, I picked Tennessee at home. I just picked Tennessee at home I don't think Washington's that good and unless they just light up the field tonight I don't think they're gonna win. It's possible that McNab...
00 Justin: Vince Young will be back. I mean... Who knows who's gonna play there. It doesn't really matter. It's off anyway. Alright, so the next game has Kansas City hosting Arizona. Both teams lost yesterday. Kansas City got their butts whipped. I can't believe it. Jake: I can't believe it. What is the Seahawks? What team is the Seahawks? Not sure they are just they'll either just play outrageously good and be okay teams or they'll just lay down and lay eggs Justin: Well, they didn't have they had their starter back. They were turducken. They had their starting quarterback back yesterday. So that helped Can see you got the box kicked by Denver. That was atrocious. But that's Denver. That's Denver in Denver Jake: I'm sorry, but can't that's an inter that's Justin: that's never give up 60 points to Oakland in Denver I know but rivalry games that's I'm saying so I think what's the line seven Kansas City given seven given seven giving seven to Arizona a lot of points I'm gonna take Arizona on the road I don't care I'm gonna take Casey at home all right suit yourself I don't like the seven though suit yourself I'm gonna game big game big game big game alert big game alert Green Bay heads to Minnesota. It's the F.A.R.V. matchup. And, uh... Green Bay coming off their bye. Right. And Minnesota home hosting Green Bay. I... And Green Bay's giving two on the road. Fine. Green Bay. You're gonna take Green Bay? Green Bay... I'm gonna take the F.A.R.V.E. I'm gonna take Minnesota. Oh, you kidding me? They... He's ba...he literally got in that press conference. Jake: They're out of it. The Vikings are out. There's...there's... Their season's over. It's done. I think they're gonna lay down and lay an egg green Bay's in the hunt coming off for a week rest Maybe they get back some players. I mean they've lost like 11. Maybe you have some players. I'll pick green Bay All right, lots of differences this week Justin: Pittsburgh is hosting Oakland. This is off as well. We have a feeling cuz Pittsburgh game ended late last night They're coming off a loss. I feel like they're gonna beat Oakland who's coming off of a bye. Yeah, I think so Oakland's actually looking decent at five and four Pittsburgh six and three. I think they push it to seven and three Not sure what the line is gonna know Pittsburgh lost yesterday. Jake: There's six and three, yeah? Yeah. So we're pushing to seven and three. Same there to win. Justin: And I have a feeling the line will be something like maybe six. Isn't this the game that Oakland last year beat them? Went into Pittsburgh and beat Pittsburgh? Even more reason for Pittsburgh to win. So I'm gonna pick Pittsburgh. down in there they got problems on their lines though they've lost two of them starting two of them that's big it's big it's big it's a lot going on there so Baltimore heads to Carolina Carolina's home I think Claussen even got her and I'm not sure if he's gonna play Baltimore's giving eight doesn't matter and I think I'm gonna take Baltimore yeah on the road I don't really care doesn't matter the next game Jacksonville is hosting Cleveland in one of the most exciting finishes of the week. Jacksonville throws the Hail Mary and wins the game at the end against Houston.
03 Justin: Very exciting. The guy knocked it down into the receiver. What do you do TJ? Knock it down. Nope maybe catch it next time. Yeah. So the Jacksonville is only giving to Cleveland. Because Cleveland's playing well. I think Cleveland's playing really well. I'm going to pick Cleveland. I'm going to pick Cleveland to win. Jake: I think they, you know, if they do what they do well, they could win. And they should have, should have made a one against us. Justin: So I'll pick Cleveland. I agree. Next up is a big matchup in the NFC. It's Atlanta going on the road to St. Louis. I know I said big match up in St. Louis in the same sentence, but St. Louis is home hosting one of the better teams in the NFC and they're getting three points at home. And Atlanta has the long week to think about it and travel. I'm picking St. Louis at home. Jake: No, I think Atlanta is better at 13 than that. Justin: Oh, they are. They're pretty good. But I'm picking St. Louis at home. I think they play well at home. All right. New Orleans off their by is hosting Seattle. They're giving 12. 12 only? 12 only to Seattle. Seattle doesn't travel very well. But 12 is a lot. But New Orleans is coming off their by. I feel like Peyton's a really good coach coming off the by. I'm gonna... you I'm gonna say New Orleans. Jake: Oh yeah, I'll take New Orleans. Justin: 12 is a lot, but I'm gonna pick New Orleans. San Francisco coming off of a victory. 3 and 6 actually still alive in their division, which is really sad. They're hosting Tampa and giving 3. I think Tampa's really good. I'm gonna pick Tampa. Jake: Uh, wait, who's giving who? Justin: In this game, San Francisco is giving... three meaning San Francisco's favorite at home yeah I'll take Tampa then pretty good next game is Sunday nighter it is Philly home to the Giants that is a big game really big game the game is off right now there's no there's no line on it because it's really playing tonight yeah my guess I imagine Philly's gonna be favored by Jake: really just a field goal oh yeah yeah at home yeah so I'm gonna pick I'm gonna Justin: pick Philly the Giants don't play well in Philly yeah I'm gonna pick Philly because the Giants don't play well period in a state and then our Monday night game which is also off for some reason is San Diego is hosting Denver Don't know what this line is gonna look like but I'm gonna pick San Diego because they usually get red-hot around this time Of the year and at home, and I don't know why I don't know what's gonna happen, but I'm gonna go ahead and pick San Diego all right on To the throne picks which are the AFC East matchups a little bit more in depth. We give some scores
01 Justin: We will start with Chicago in Miami. I will be at that game. Good for you. Jake: Yeah, so... It's a Thursday night, alright? For those who don't know, I've mentioned it 17 times, this podcast and the last 91 podcasts will probably mention it more than that. The wife's a big Dolphins fan. We almost always, in the last 11 years, have gone down to the Jets Dolphins game. But this year because of scheduling conflicts, aka we were in Vegas, we didn't get to go to the Dolphin's Jet Game Sunday Nighter. So, as a makeup game, we went to this one. Because it was a Thursday night, we could go down on Wednesday and have a good time and go see the Thursday Night Game. So I'm actually really excited because this is my favorite type of game to go to. Which is, when I go to the Miami Jets game... I'm surrounded by Miami Dolphins fans and the yelling and the whatever and you know it's always just the adjective of the game. I actually just get to go to a game and enjoy which has only happened a couple times. It doesn't actually happen that often at all. I get to go to a game, a football game, and not really care. Like okay so the Dolphins win or not? Bears win or not? I don't really care. So I can kind of just play the fun having a good time, drink a lot, watch a game, yell at people. So... So what are you picking? I think they're gonna have a little... You give... It's a short week. I don't think Chicago's good. I think they have... I think that they match up poorly with Miami. Miami, I think, can put together a rush on the passer. I think they will be able to get to Cutler. And I think they'll be able to take him down. I think Chicago will lose that game. So I'm picking... What's your score? I'm picking Miami. Justin: I'll pick it 30 to 28. Wow. I picked the... same result Miami winning for the same reasons I think they'll be able to get a rush going against caught layer I feel like they'll be able to move the ball slowly but surely you know that Chicago stops to run really well but I think Miami will be able to move the ball 1714 dalfans okay low scoring game I also Jake: want to pick Miami just so I have something to root for when I'm down Justin: there you can actually root for the Dolphins yeah because I don't want to Jake: sit in a thing and root for the Justin: Bears like it last for me. It's just stupid. You're stupid. All right moving right along Buffalo off their win goes to Cincinnati who stink Carson Palmer stinks even worse So Buffalo gets their win. I think I think little Turning of the tide here, Buffalo learns how to win a little bit. I think they take two in a row. I just don't feel like Cincinnati is any good. So I think Buffalo wins 23-21. Jake: Yeah, but if Cincinnati is no good, Buffalo is really no good either. At Buffalo at home, I'll give them. If this was the reverse, I'd give them reverse. I'd say they might be able to beat Cincinnati. Cincinnati has got enough weapons that they actually get to doing what they're supposed to be doing, they'll win. So I'm gonna pick Cincinnati 31-17. Justin: And now a extremely good game. Not the game of the century. Jake: Well, this last night should have been a good game and it wasn't, but...
02 Justin: Well, this is on paper a fantastic game. New England at Indy. New England with some tough matchups here in a row. They have to go to Indy. Jake: Go to Stielers, then you go to Indy the next week? Justin: Indy's a tough place to play. I just feel like New England's gonna pull it out though. Really? They do. They beat Indy all the time. 31-28 in a very exciting game. Jake: Not sure that I agree with the outcome. No, I think Indy will win. I like Indy at home. I think the answer to the Patriot isn't the Steelers. It's Indy. So I'll get it 28-23, Indy. Justin: I don't know why you say that, but okay. Uh, right. Next game. Jake: Last game. Game of the century. Game of the century. Houston. So a couple notes on this game. Comes to New York. To play the New York Jets. To play the Jets. In the, hopefully still, well, oh yeah, it's one o'clock in the afternoon, what matter, what the lights go up. Justin: Don't need lights. Jake: Uh, so interesting match-ups. week yes yeah we started our season last year Sanchez first game of season in Houston against Houston beat them everybody didn't think we could beat them they were even a better team last year or more more favored last year than they are this year yeah people have found the sort of recipe to beat that Houston is not, it's not like we're up against, I think we beat better teams. So I'm not as worried about beating the Houston Texans as I was last year or as I was probably even two weeks ago. Justin: Three weeks ago, I'd say, oh, that's a tough game. But now, still a tough game because they have a lot of weapons on offense. I mean, they have Andre Johnson, they have one of the leading rushers in the league area in Foster. Matt Schaub is a good quarterback. Although I think his arm is weak. I think you can get to him and his arm. It's pretty you can't really I don't know it just doesn't have a lot of zip on the ball. It's weird when you watch them play But Aaron Foster someone to watch out for so we're gonna have to stop the we have to stop the run there Jake: We've met up some of the best rushers with the Peterson's and yeah Justin: Oh, we're gonna have to continue to play well against against you know, Aaron Foster and so you can So they'll have a tough matchup with Andre Johnson. He's shut them down last year. Yeah, you know that that's what he's gonna have to keep doing. And Cormarti on the other side against Walters, and then we'll see what happens. Jake: If I were Houston, I'd just be throwing everything underneath and just letting the slant routes just take place because that seems to be the secret to... Again, the problem with the Jets at this point is our defense isn't as good as their hype to be, as good as they were last year. They're just... They're not getting any pressure on quarterbacks, which is... Well we sacked McCoy twice. Justin: Yeah but... It's not at the time we want it. There's no pressure. Right. There's no pressure unless we're blitzing like six. There's no organic guy who just gets to the quarterback.
01 Jake: But anyway... Do you know that Taylor almost had the safety to win the game. He was so close. Very close. If you would have been... Justin: That would've been amazing. But anyway, I'm picking the Jets you are as always Jake: 2460 yeah, I think we're gonna win this game I Do something about this game I feel like there's this is gonna be a statement game because I think a lot of the critics gonna say okay great You're beating the Lions by three you're beating the Browns or three and six by six and overtime two overtime wins although on the road I think you have to give us a lot of credit for that. But I think a lot of people are gonna say who have you beaten recently right? What you beat two bad teams recently by the record and so there's gonna be a lot of critics out there saying you know are you really good team you lose games at home why do you do that? So I think this is a chance for the Jets to actually make a statement and to say we're gonna win by a defeat of a team, meaning they're not really gonna get a shot. Right, yeah, the score is gonna say in the end that maybe they had a shot, maybe they came down and scored one in the end, but... So I'm probably at 26-17. Am I key to the castle for this one? Listen for it. Ready for it? Ready for it? Brad Smith is a receiver, man, because... That's it. That's your third receiver now. What else are you gonna do? I think so. The Brad Smith Wildcat package is gonna be put on ice. I hope not, because it's been effective. It's effective. I think sometimes it's... Here's the thing with that package. It's effective as hell. Throw the ball. They're waiting for it. Justin: What are you waiting for? Playoffs. Jake: Waiting for the playoffs? Justin: Yeah. Playoffs? We ain't gonna play off. What are you going to use it against Cleveland for? Use it when you need it. Jake: Because kids use it. Justin: So you only get one chance. Jake: There was one play yesterday I did not like where they he was a snap to Brad Smith and he handed to Sean Green who runs for two yards. You don't need to snap it to Brad Smith to send to Green to run for two yards. By the way, let's talk about. Justin: Green having a great game. Yeah, Sean Green needs to touch the ball. He did. He actually did. He had more touches than this. Jake: It's gonna have to be that way the rest of the season. I think it's a great mix and also they were much more physical defense. I mean they got a really physical defense. Great to put a big physical back against them. You get more finesse defense, speed defense. I think that's when you then use Thomason. Thomason's very good and he's a safety valve. The guy, like, for Sanchez, he's a safety guard. Justin: Well, that's why he replaced, he replaces the Leon Washington guy. Right. Because he could catch the ball. Now, I agree, but he's also the guy who goes over the top to win the yards. Sean Green has, like, uh, stone hands usually. Jake: I know we're still talking about last week, sorry, a little bit, but also, I love the go for it. Again, you think your line's better than their line? You go for it. You get the yard. You keep the play going. So, uh... I'm going 26-17 and I really look for a Brad Smith to have, I think the Wildcats going
02 Jake: away unless they're going to have someone else run it. No, he runs it. That's it. Right. And so we're not going to see much of it unless he throws it to himself. I disagree. I think we'll see plenty of it. I don't think so. I don't think this is going to be a trick game kind of game. I think this is going to be a good old fashioned way to get back to the place. Justin: It's part of the offense. Eh. It's a trick when it was the Dolphins but now it's part of the offense. it's It's part of our offense. I'll tell you who's going to bring it back. The offense will be bringing it back. They should bring it back. I don't know how they're going to do it in four days. Jake: Alright, so that's it. That wraps up the Jet Kingdom podcast.
