09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Jake: Welcome to Jektine podcast. As always, on this side of the digital desk, I owe whatever the fuck. It's Jake, and joining me, straight off the fuck train, is Justin. How you doing Justin? I shot out of a cannon today. Woo! Wow. How can you not be after yesterday's game? You just came out with two F-bombs. You're like... Rex Ryan, I have a teen speech. Let's go get a fucking snack. Let's have a fucking beer. Cheers. Cheers. Cheers to the Jets 8 and 2. That was a real cheer thing right there, I'll tell you. Alrighty then. We've got a big agenda today. First of all, we're going to tell you about our podcast for this week so you know what's going on. Talk about the Texans game, injuries and key moves, talk about other kingdoms including some big comebacks and big let downs. And then, because this is a special week of giving of thanks, thank you for being eight and two, thank you for Indy for not taking out the Patriots and letting us be sole leaders. But anyway, stupid manning. We are going to break up the podcast, so I'll get to that right now. We're going to break up the podcast into two parts. We did this a couple weeks ago, seemed to be successful. Two of our biggest podcasts ever in terms of total downloads, so sure. We'll do it again. So we're going to talk about, it's Monday, we're going to talk about yesterday's game and we're going to preview the upcoming game. The Thanksgiving games. Thanksgiving games. Then on Friday, we're going to do another podcast where we'll talk about the game that happened the night before. And we'll then preview all the games. coming up that weekend. Right, so when you wake up Friday morning, you don't have anything to do, you've watched a Jets victory, you're in good spirits, you're getting ready to have the leftover turkey day sandwich, download a podcast. There you go. Let us talk you through it. So let's talk a little bit about the Texans game. We both predicted we'd win this game. Neither one of us predicted this would come down like this. Let's, I want to set up the game a little bit first. You do. From a personal standpoint. Go on. So most people in podcast know, obviously, it's a ticket holder. Most people know I'm married to a Dolphins fan. Most people maybe not know, although I was tweeting about it, I was down in Miami for the, for the Dolphins Bears game. Yep. That was a good one. With the wife on Thursday night. That must have been just horrible. So we come back. She must have been so angry. Oh, she was so angry. We talk about that in a second. We talk about that game. We came back and this was the first time bringing my daughter who's five to a Jets game.
01 Jake: So I've been training her for five and a half years. She's been groomed. I've seen her do the Jets chant. I've seen her wear her cheerleader outfit. She is a Jets fan. And she went to her first game. So we did the whole tailgate thing. We did the whole thing. And I will... What time did you get there? I got there at 10.30. So a little later than normal. Much later than normal because I didn't want her to sit there. That's interesting because my father went to the game with a couple of his buddies and said, oh I looked for Jake and he wasn't in his normal spot. We were literally four... He should have just looked a little harder. If you looked down a little bit, he would have seen the red awning and known him a lot. So I'm just throwing it out there because you and I go to a lot of games together. You know that I have a policy. What's the policy? Never leave early. And the reason is? You never know what might happen. Right. But I'm bringing my five and a half year old daughter. So I'm basically, by the time I'm getting to this game, I'm basically prepared mentally, physically. and mentally again to leave at any moment. So if she's unhappy in the first 10 minutes of the game, I'm out. I got a T-boat at home. We're gonna go on lockdown. iPhone lockdown. Yeah, no radio, no nothing. We'll just drive home. You know, I can get there in about 25 minutes. You wouldn't listen on the radio? No, because I'll go home and I'll T-boat it. Yeah, wouldn't you want to just listen on the radio and then pick it up or do you walk? Now let's listen. Now watch the game. So. Let's talk about the game, because then at the end of the game, I'll get to the rest of the story. Well, oh, so you're not even going to say whether you stayed or not? I'm going to as we get to the rest of the game. So talk about this game. What... Well, I was home. Yeah. Confines of... The friendly confines of my apartment with my nice, large HDTV. Did not get to go to this game live, although I was offered tickets. I had to turn... them down because they were in the lower level and I just I vowed to never go to a game in the lower level again. Section 121 which would have been somewhere below you. I just didn't want to go. Interesting because you've been offered tickets to the Miami game at on the third row of one something good so interesting if you turn those down too. Yeah but I want to go and sit in your seats. Oh okay. Which are not in the bottom level. Alright keep going. Anyway. Bye. So I thought the Jets played an excellent football game for about three quarters, then stopped playing excellent football for about eight or nine minutes, and then played excellent football for another minute somewhere in there. Now this is if you go back and look at what the Texans have done over the course of this year. particularly over the course of the last two to three games, they've done this exact thing. They've gotten down, then by some miraculous thing, they play amazing. They just leave people, do they play opponents who just leave people so fucking open on the field that I could go to them? Yes, they do this. They, for some reason, get down by two scores or three scores and then they come right back.
01 Jake: to either tie or take the lead and then they lose at the end. They've done it the last, I think, three weeks. This is what they do. They don't know how to finish off a team or they don't know how to come out strong and then they get behind and then they get into this different offense that works. They are actually a little bit better than I thought they were. I didn't think that they were going to be able to run the ball on us. I thought, Um, Arian Foster was kind of a, you know, he's just having a halfway decent year kind of thing, but he's actually pretty good But but that's the thing when you're watching the game he looks pretty good But if you go back to the stats and go look at it, what do you how many yards do you know how many yards you ran for? I'm guessing you I don't have the stats in front of me, but I was watching the game He ran for what 80 90 yards? 84 yards. That's not bad. How many carries? 22 carries. He caught the ball a lot though. But the point is, the point is, is under 100, if you keep a runner under 100, basically they didn't run the ball well. That's not true. They had a total of 97 yards rushing. Total. But 80 yards times, you know, 16 games, if you average 80 yards a game, would you not say 1200 80 yards is a good season for running back? It's okay. That's pretty good. It's okay. And in any single game, 100 yards is the benchmark that we look at and say... Well, 1000 yards is also another benchmark that you look at. It is true. And 80 yards a game will get you way past 1000. But anyway, two touchdowns. He came out of the backfield. Now I want to get the stats in front of me because I know he came out of the backfield and caught the ball. Oh yeah, 59 yards. So I mean, the guy chewed up some yardage. Yeah, yeah. Well, what didn't happen was Andre Johnson catching the ball, which was pretty awesome. So again, I really did. Targeted four times, receipt price, 30 CR. He was on the Rebus Island all night. He was on Rebus Island. But seriously, because Rebus got beat by Walters down the field. I don't know if you could tell this from being at the game, but the replay showed the sun was in his eyes. He literally just. didn't see the ball. He even came over to the sideline and was pointing to his like, someone was in my eyes guys, I couldn't see. But you know what, the Jets played really well for the first three quarters. They definitely had some real lapses on defense. I thought the fumble by Sean Green was a huge. momentum turning. It was. It was the game. It was the thing that gave Houston a little life and let them score really quickly on I think a two-play drive down the field and then you know they I thought for sure that the Jets the way that they have been playing after the the Aryan Foster touchdown to make it 24-23 with a little over two minutes left I was like you know what we've been playing really good. We're gonna get a good return, we're gonna go down the field, and we're gonna score a field goal with no time left. We're gonna win the game. That's how I felt about it. What happens? We get a good return, but Jett's stupidity shows up out of nowhere in a 15-yard penalty,
04 Jake: get backed up, and then the offensive line just falls apart, and someone, I think it was Mario Williams, get... got hold of Sanchez's arm and he throws an interception. And I was like, oh, we're going to lose this game. What the hell? And I was tweeting, and I was like, we let him score. Is he now you're tweeting now? I was tweeting during the game. I was like, should we let him score a touchdown so that we get the ball back? And I was like, I think we should. I think we should just let them score a touchdown. The first one we should have. When they were at the one trying to get in, not the second one. No, the first one was gonna let them know. When they intercepted the ball and they had the ball under two minutes, I was like, should we just let them score? We'll go down eight and then we'll get the ball back with some time. Because I did not think 46, seven, eight seconds with no time outs is even like, that's a Peyton Manning drive. That's a... Tom Brady drive that's a that's a far eight years ago drive that's a but this is also now I this is what's gonna just blow your mind. That's also a Well done that now in two games three driven the field Is it three straight now that that we've So the Detroit game, sorry, the Denver game, we had to go down the field, hits home, it's all homes. He hits homes on the pass interference. They set up a touchdown. Then we get the Lions game where he hits homes on the slant. Then we get the Browns game where he hits homes on the slant. And then this one, I mean, really was... It was covered in homes because don't want to get homes up. Oh wait, there's that other really great... Running back or sorry. I received on the other side the big play was right the Braylon Edwards down the field Was it a 40? How many yards was this? That was the play because I was the play I mean it was a it was a 42 yard play down the sidelines, which was That was I mean he Sanchez makes this play happen by He looks off this, I don't know why they were playing, you know, just one deep like that, but he looks the safety off towards the middle where Brad Smith was running a post and he gets the safety turned around and I don't know why the corner isn't just playing behind the receiver. No, the corner should be playing the receiver to the inside. Well, the corner should literally be behind the receiver. We shouldn't be letting the receiver go to the outside because you don't want to let him get it. out because there's no time on the clock so the corner should be playing playing the receiver into the inside. This was the corner from that got cut by the Dolphins. Jason Allen. Jason Allen who just showed up with the Titans like five days ago. He was playing with the Titans? How'd he get on the Texans roster? Sorry the Texans. We have a problem. Yeah, I'll call in the Oilers next and you know, they the Jets showed some serious Fortitude San Antonio Holmes is clearly a huge play player. It's not even a joke. He makes big place
05 Jake: You asked two weeks ago. Well, who's my MVP of the season? It's now I'm calling it now It's it that's who I would pick right now and we were talking about Pro Bowl I think not only on the podcast but with our other buddy which I'm pro bono I was saying centennial home I said absolutely not and now would you change your mind yeah why could how can you not change your mind looking at this guy's just winning games he's a game he's making incredible catches on the sidelines he's making catches taking it to the house. He's making big time plays in this offense where we haven't had a guy that did that and we haven't had one in so long. I mean, Keisha would be the last guy I thought. She didn't make these huge plays. He was just a big dude that went over the middle. I mean, the big play guys are really there at this point. Like, Holmes can take a slant and then take it. He takes it to the house. Or he's just gonna be that guy. Even on the catch before where he caught on the side and we just plopped his two feet. That was a great catch. Yeah, it's not just he catches the ball. Because catching the ball, as we all know, is only half the battle. You then got to get in bounds and have the awareness. There was another catch during another game I was watching later that the awareness wasn't there. He didn't realize. He's a key mix. in the giant game. Yeah, he stepped out of bounds. On the first drive, it was a long play down the field and it was like, wow, why didn't he just step in battle? I was not aware where the wine was. Exactly. And he has it. Alright, so here, I just want a couple moments about this game. I'm the angriest at this game. This is the game that's made me the angriest. More so than the two losses. And here's why. Why do we have to do this? why can't we just go out, get a good lead and stick them. We should be the team with the good defense. If you toggle who are the Jets, the Jets are the grounded pound with the good defense. If you ever give a team with a good defense and a good running game, 13 or whatever the points we had at one point. that should be game over. It should be not even a chance. So why the fuck are we allowing teams to come back and end these games? And so I'm happy we have the win, but I'm like, this is the kind of game that won't end this way in the playoffs. That's my problem with this game. This game won't end this way in the playoffs. We will not be the luck, we will not get the luck of the Irish or the luck of the New Yorkers or the luck of the homes three times in the playoffs where it's just like, oh my god, I can't believe, oh, they did it. It's just, there is a point of which there is, we need to be a better all around four quarter team. And so I'm extremely happy with the win. I'm really unhappy that. It's even having the lead. It's okay to go down and come back against the Lions, against the, you know, have a seven point and have someone come back. But we let them catch up big time. Two touchdowns in almost no time at all. That's not good. And that's not going to be good for us going forward.
02 Jake: The Patriots aren't going to sit there and... you know, if we, they will make those plays, they won't make stupid mistakes. Like the good teams don't make stupid mistakes. We're making stupid penalty mistakes and we're making stupid defense. I mean, wide open players, whole half a field. Tug but Reedus Island, this guy had, this guy had, I don't know who was supposed to be covering Smith or, or Camarti, he had Camarti Nation. I mean, it was, there's so many, so many open on the side there. So you're complaining too much for me. I'm sorry, but aren't you concerned that this isn't gonna keep up? No, that some teams gonna exploit us. I think these games build character and build a sense of urgency Where it's it's great that you get the whim, but you also get what you're doing Rex gets to do tenfold in the locker room or in the yeah learning experience Like fine learning lessons fine. Give me your play. I think it's fine. It's not fine. It's a great game I'm extremely excited to best we've been since 1986 side note. That's when Marc Sanchez was born 1986 86 best last time we were eight and now's the year Marc Sanchez was born. That's awesome Give me your play the game and you're native the game right now. All right So my play of the game is the Braylon Edwards catch. I was about to say, there's only two plays and you've got to pick one of them. It's the Braylon Edwards catch at the end of the game because without that there's no goal line play. There's no chance at the end zone. That was a huge play. Great throw by Sanchez after overthrowing guys all day down the field. Or does he just have like a great arm? Or how do these guys not get under these balls? I think some. The ones that I saw, like the Edwards one, you got to get go. No receiver with his money should ever have a quarterback overthrow. He overthrows guys all the time. I mean, is he just throwing the ball 80 yards down the field? What are we going to say about that? Those plays? Please. set up other stuff. Like that under shot to Danian Thompson that he then ran for 20 yards or whatever after Catchy Ball, those plays set that up because they know you can bomb it and they know that if he connects, again the game with the Eagles and the Redskins, which we didn't have to talk about because we hadn't played yet. play that 65 yard bomb works once every 10 times. So you're gonna take your shots and sometimes I work in our advantage and sometimes I don't. They worked in advantage when they needed to. I'm okay with him taking those shots especially when it takes them first and whatever. Fine take a shot second and one take the shot you'll connect and it'll be good. At least when I'm bouncing off his fucking helmet. That's true. So the one drop where I meant to ask you this because you were there like he had that one play where it was clear pass interference where he got like hit way before the ball got there. Now I noticed that the fans were booing. Were they booing the fact that because they thought he dropped the ball or were they booing
03 Jake: because it was a clear pass interference. Booing because they put up on the screen him being pushed off of right before he caught it and they knew it was just a clear Passer clear passes there was booing before like I could tell it was booing before it got put up on the screens Yeah, was that because everyone saw it was well remember they play it on the screens as it happens and then again So yeah, it was like it wasn't clear in real time that that was a penalty, but then when they showed the replay it was like, are you kidding me? That was ridiculous. This was not a highly penalized game. The penalties that came to us were really either stupid ones or, you know, it wasn't highly penalized. Alright, so that my player of the game was uh... That was your play? My play of the game was Braylon. My player of the game uh... It's gotta be on offense and since I picked this guy last week, I'll pick the other guy. I'm gonna pick this week. I'll go with the San Antonio Holmes. You can't pick Brantland as the big play, but not pick Brantland as the player. Well, Holmes had a more impactful game. Well, totally true. Alright. Those are my guys. So, so... I'm going to battle with my receivers. Wow. And we're, you know, we'll come up with a couple guys we're facing off against next week. and we'll see who has the better tandem there. Ooh, Batman and Robin? Batman and Robin. Stinko Ocho. Stink. Stinko Ocho. All right, what's your play in player? Or play in meat? Well, I would give the, okay, then I'll just reverse it. Because it's literally only two plays and two players. Sanchez, you can't give it to? You could give it Sanchez, but. I give it to him last year. You know he's on a really insane run here the last four games He is and in that interception with from on Wait, he was on the opposite. I feel it looks like he just threw the interception didn't didn't look like he got touched I was pissed but then seeing the replay he got touched which you know I'm best of them. I will I'm gonna give it a reverse So I'll give the play of the game is definitely the touchdown to win the game gotta be and then player not only because he had Sorry, not only because he had one touchdown, right? Edwards had a touchdown in the game. That was an easy one. Easy one, but then he's making those plays that again. Last year I just didn't see this guy making, and this year he's making it. And having them both out there means if you're us covering them... Kermarty Kermarty covers Edwards. Yeah, definitely but still two tough guys to cover And then it leaves a bunch of guys down in the bottom there to do whatever they want Those the guy on the that's that's getting all this stuff underneath is LT. Yeah, well, it's not Keller Keller has not played well since Holmes came back. He had that one in the first in like the first drive that just dinked off his helmet I don't understand what Keller's doing out there, but yeah and missing you know we're missing Kottre. He's out And so Brad Smith was out there. He caught a couple balls. Yeah, he's not a receiver
03 Jake: He's he's you know he is what he is and I'm still not crazy about the way they use in the wildcat package I think they should use it more it works all the time, but it It is going to be a tendency that is going to be at some point. But for now, it's game planning. It's strategic. It's not tactical. It's strategic. Thank you. You say so I say so I think that our wins are masking some of our massive flaws and the next loss we have Where all the all the birds are gonna come home to roost because there's some massive flaws of this team Play when that happens. Hey when people get on like Schottenheimer You had a good game. I mean shit. They scored what 30 points. How's that the offensive coordinators fault whatsoever? If they lost this game, it was completely on the defense. No questions asked. If they lose 24-23. Well that's again, if you have a team that's supposed to be grounded in pound and the defense, the Baltimore, you know, we are just a defense, if you give us 14, we'll give you a win, right? Baltimore gave up some points yesterday. It is some shopper, you know. some guy who was packing groceries. All right, let's talk about injuries. Any injuries? Uh, yeah, Damien Woody got taken off the field. Haven't seen anything about it yet. There was something with his leg. He was back on the sidelines as if he wanted to come back in the game. I think he did. So I have a feeling he'll be okay for Thursday. Khatri likely won't. I don't think he'll play at all. They'll definitely save him. If he's ready to go anytime soon, they want to save him for the past. Well then he gets long rest for the Pats. He always plays well against the Pats. Other than Damian Woody, I didn't notice any other injuries that happened during the game, did you? No. Let me talk about the ending of the game. Oh, go on. I'll finish the story. Finish it. So, I had pre-pre- you know the rule, I do not leave games. And I've sat through some miserable games watching this game. I've sat. So here's the thing. I literally, I had prepared, I basically mentally prepared myself to leave at any time. And so when that thing happened at the end, when I threw the interceptions, and my daughter who's, you know, trying to become a big Jets fan, she has what we all have, which is that the pain and agony. And she's my daughter, and she's five and a half years old, and so I want to protect her. So here we are, it looks like the game's gonna end, everybody's piling out of the stadium, and I'm pissed, and I'm like, let's just go. Let's just go, let's get out of here, it's a minute forty-two after the game, we just handed the ball over to them. They're gonna score a touchdown right here and it's completely over and my daughter's upset. So I'm like trying to protect her from being upset.
00 Jake: So I leave. I pick her up. I run down the stairs that we've learned to do. I, you know, I'm thinking let's just beat traffic, get in the whatever. I'll listen to the horribleness on the radio as I interview people, as we lost this game, can't believe they came back. Get into the car and turn on the car. Wait, you left? left. You said you didn't leave. I know I said I would tell you on the podcast. Go on. So then I get in the car, turn it on. Brown and Edwards completed pass. They're on the 6th. Unbelievable. It's turned around. You left. I left. I left for the daughter. The daughter is... I know, painful. Oh, you owe her. No, because we got in the car. She could have seen the most exciting thing ever. She would, well that's two points. One is she can't see anything from this. She can't see it. She doesn't watch the game. She's watching the scoreboard and she gets like someone's winning or not winning, but she doesn't get plays and who's really on offensive defense. But she missed the explosion. But here's the thing, we got in the car. And she was the whole, no, the whole way in, as I'm holding her as we walk into the car, she's like, I'm so mad, I'm so mad. You know, she's literally upset about the game. We get to the car, turn on, and then it starts to go, my face goes blank. My wife turns to me, she's like, oh my God, oh my God. And he goes, what, what, what? Are they gonna win? Are they gonna, and then she was happy. And then they actually won. Hayden was like, yes, we won eight and two, eight and two. That's all she cares about too. She doesn't give us scores. She cares about record. She's giving my wife crap about five and five. She's talking eight and two. Eight and two, we had eight, eight. And she calls it points. Eight points, eight points. So anyway, the wife just cannot like that. So it was happy, happy, joy, joy. I was so stunned. 10 points, you left. My father, who's notorious for leaving games early, went to the game, like I said, with a couple of his buddies, and stayed, because he was like, we're here, he's going to stay to watch the rest of the game thinking they were going to win. And he's like, you know, the way they've been playing lately, I'm going to stay. And they stayed, and then he got rewarded for staying. From what I understand, half the crowd just got out of there. So the only good news that come out of it, well, two good news. One is, Pretty disappointed in you, got to say. And you're using your daughter as a scapegoat. But you know I would never leave. Oh, yeah. So the good news is it now has fortified my rule. The rule is double lockdown fortified. I don't care what is happening. I'm chaining you to your seat. I'm never leaving. And second of all is that a father's love for their daughter is stronger than all bonds. Alrighty, let's talk about the other things Kingdom. Let's start off with the Miami game that I was actually at. Here's the deal, eight days, three pro football games. That'd be me. That's pretty crazy. Staying to the end of two of them. Yeah, we would stay at the end of the Dolphins game. The hun must have been not so happy. She was not happy. So I had a great time in Florida. Must have had not so good a time after.
00 Jake: I actually. She said on the way back, she said on the way back, she said, you know, it's, it's, it's so much nicer to know I'm in Florida and I can go sit out by the pool tomorrow, then have to. And here I am thinking Tyler Thigpen should be the guy who plays for the... Yeah, no, no, no, no. And they got to bring that for all. What what yeah, why do they run the ball seven times with Tyler Thigpen in a game that they're They're in. They're in the game. They're in the game. 16 nothing is not a blowout. I mean nothing is bad. But 16 is... that's like the Jets losing 9 nothing. I mean that's not a blowout but nothing sucks. But really you're down 6 nothing in half. And you ran the ball 7 times the whole game. And you're the Dolphins with your 3rd string quarterback out there. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams in the backfield. What are you doing? They're there. What are they doing? What what is that game plan? They don't have one. They don't have a game plan. Why why no Wildcat? Why no, why no running the ball and then you lose Brandon Marshall in the second quarter So who even throw in the ball to first of all, Brandon Marshall thug He had some stupid ass penalties firstly dropped two balls. I run his in his bread basket like He reminded me of like Braylon Edwards last year, dropping balls. The Jets look good for getting homes for a fifth round pick. Oh yeah, Braylon Edwards dropped. Especially when there's some real scrums out there like. Sorry, Brandon Marshall dropped two passes that were huge passes. And then one, he makes the pass, he goes into the sidelines and throws the ball in the guys face. To Cutler, because they were teammates. It was playful. Yeah, he got a 15 yard, took back the whole thing. I don't like the 15 yards on that. That was playful. It's like his former teammate. It doesn't matter. The refs aren't like, well, let's see. They were friends in college, had lots of drinking. You can't do that, especially in a... That was funny. No, no, bad game. Cutler's fat Elvis. Dolphins are in trouble. They're not making the playoffs. No, I mean, they have a shot. Not a chance for the FC. They get to play us all again, so they have a shot. I just huge collapses by the Jets and Patriots and they could make it I just I don't see it. I don't say five and five is but it's not out this year five and five stop it's not look if you look at the AFC and we've We've sort of talked about but if you look at the AFC and you look at all the teams that that are there in That AFC and you talk Jets Patriots, right? Then you go to the south. You got the Colts at six and four and you got the Jaguars who are at six and four. Somebody's got to win that division. Yeah. And the Titans aren't half bad at five and five. Right. They're right there. Then you go to the north, you got the Ravens and you got the Steelers. Right there, six teams. And someone's got to make it from the west. Whether it be the Chargers or the Chiefs or even the Raiders. Five and five in the AFC East is not gonna cut it. Unless there's a huge collapse. Unless there's a major collapse. Because the AFC, I mean... The two best teams in the football are sitting in the same conference.
00 Jake: It's in division. In same division. Eight and two. It's crazy. You got the Steelers. The Falcons are eight and two. Another division, another conference. All right, what are the games? The Bills had a huge comeback. Big time, Cincinnati, just the bungles are back. Eight and eight. The bungles are back. So here's what's coming up on this Thursday night game. Thursday night games or Thursday games. Two eight and two teams are gonna take on two. And the AFC East is represented. Two two and eight teams. Right. That's crazy. The Pats are playing the Lions. Talk about good football. Wait, no wait, the Cowboys are 2-8. No, they're 3-7. And what are they playing? The Saints. So, yeah. Not really good. Not great games, but although Dallas is playing better under Garrett. So, Buffalo gets a crazy win. They come back, I think the score was like 31-3 or 28-3. Something insane. They came back. And then it was like 49 30 something Carson Palmer worst quarterback in the league. I'm excited for Thursday. Yeah, it's gonna be fun Someone's gonna get some sacks. So the you know, and I wasn't the indie game like the other big game Right, New England at 4 o'clock They they got out to a big lead, you know, they were handling indie the whole game and then all of a sudden at the end Manning does what he does he gets him back he Did they get the ball back they have a chance they get down all the way down into New England territory I could've kicked the field but who does that at that point? I mean one does it have you have Peyton Manning you don't well, you don't leave time. So, you know, they're there 40 seconds Plenty of time for Manning to score a touchdown and one day why not win the game when you when you have the chance And he just under threw Pierre Garçon on that ball and either didn't see the defender or the defender made a really good play. He made a good play. He jumped very high to get that ball. Not Manning's greatest game, that's for sure. 3 interceptions. 3 interceptions. I will say 3 interceptions. The other Manning threw 3 interceptions on a Sunday night game at 6. I tweeted that. 6. It was after the Manning brothers. Brady and Belichick don't lose at home during the regular season. I think that he just set a new record 25 consecutive. Absolutely insane. They win at home. It's really difficult. I wonder if we're the last person to beat them at home. Because we beat them that third, that like Sunday. That was a while ago though. Yeah, it was one of the 25 home thinking about how many years that would be. That's true and Brady missed the season which probably was in the middle of those 25 games. So other news, you know, we'll run down the AFC East, you know, we have the 8 and 2 at the top. Wait, but you put in news here that maybe it will happen. I have, I have some news. I'm keeping you up to date here. Hold on, we'll get to it. So we got the Jets at the top 8 and 2, then the Dolphins are 8 and 2, and, oh sorry, the Pats are 8 and 2, the Fins are 5 and 5. and the Bills on the two game winning streak are two and eight. Best two and eight team in the league. They really are. They were way better than 0 and 8. I mean, they really are... They were definitely better than 0 and 8 in the row. Does that make you worried for the last game of the year?
00 Jake: It makes me wish the end of the year game won't matter. At all for anybody. At all for us. But they'll play for pride. If, it won't matter for us at all, literally just sit back, enjoy, have a hot dog on the sideline, whatever it is, I don't want to have to win that game, that's for sure. So then, yeah, the big news that just got announced, and I literally, you are breaking news to me, I'm breaking this news to you, is that there was a firing in the head coaching ranks. Chili. Goodbye, chili. Chili's out of Minnesota. They had a terrible game yesterday. Here's some funny facts. The two head coaches that get fired after this, during the season, are both fired after their games with the Packers. Oh really? Both the Cowboys and the Vikings played the Packers, got demolished by the Packers, and then went on to fire the head coaches. Both of them deserve it, because they were both- They both had high hopes. Wade is probably a worse coach than Childress. Although, I think Wade gets a job as a defensive coordinator where I don't think Childress gets another job. Uh, TGIFs. Serving up special chili drinks. You want another chili? You want a chili with that? And they being the Vikings. are promoting Lesley Frazier, which is someone who's been in the ranks for a head coach job for a while. He was interviewed by a lot of teams last year. Give him a shot, give him a shot. See what he could do. So here's a second prediction. They sit or not sit far of now. Oh, Frazier can't sit far. Far gets to sit on his own. But that's the thing. I thought that. Children's wouldn't ever say him because he put in all this just it's got a razor doesn't get to come in Oh, is it as a queen say why not? You've got to see what you have far is not doing you know what you have no you gotta see what you have again They gotta be in another rookie behind you know Yeah, I know need to know another guy to vars jackson's the guy Other yeah, no, there's another guy behind. Yeah, that's great. It's not him. It's to virus Jackson would be the guy So you just play five just to play him so he can get the 300 consecutive stars Yeah, pretty much and then and then you're not going anywhere. You may as well just let him play Really? It's a season to season thing in NFL. I don't I don't think playing Tavares Jackson this year makes give him Give him a hair a year before they trade him. They made the playoffs trade him trade who trade Play Tavares. Play Tavares. Play Tavares. You're past the trade deadline. No, give him some, give him an interview out there so people can see that he's not terrible. And then someone like Miami can pick him up next year. But Tavares is their quarterback next year. No, he's not. Yeah, he is. No, he's not. Well then play him now. No, they're. Wait, wait, that's stupid. They're paying far if they're gonna play far. No, we get that. If he's your quarterback next year, you play him now to get him experience. If he's not your- As experienced, he's gotten you to the playoffs. Who? Tobias Jackson led them to a division title two years ago. Then why is he not playing now? Because they wanted Favre. This is what Favre does. Childress wanted Favre.
01 Jake: Childress is gone. The owner wants Favre, guaranteed. No. Guaranteed. Not anymore. Guaranteed. Listen, maybe Favre took pictures of penis and sent them to the owner. Ziggy. Then they should make some back. back room deal and let farm just go. They're not gonna- Go where? Leave, goodbye. Retire, done. No, sit him. I wanna see him on the sidelines. They won't sit him. They won't sit him. I'm betting you right now. They're gonna sit him. They won't sit him. I'm gonna sit him. How much money are we betting? We're gonna bet at- The usual bet? The usual bet. Usual bet. This is 20 bucks I think, I don't know. They'll sit him by the end of the season. Hooters wings. Okay, Hooters wings. By the end of the season, they'll sit five. He'll start every game for the rest of the season as long as he's not injured. Not gonna happen. Alrighty. What else? Well, the Eagles put a beating on the Giants last night even though the score was a little closer than what I thought the game was. Well, the Giants were actually winning the game. They really were in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles outplayed them. In the first half they killed him the Giants did seem to figure out the Michael Vick the Michael Vick thing They blitzed him on almost every play and they blitzed him from one side Right and for citing the side he likes to run right forced him to run to his right right being a lefty That means he can't he doesn't have that throwing option right there, and then they they sort of Kept them to like these three four-yard runs and it worked for the most part particularly in the second half But you know there were some plays where the Eagles dropped wide open touchdown in the end zone You know a couple plays here and there where the Giants got lucky on some some fumble type stuff I think the Eagles and the Falcons are the class of the NFC right now Oh, yeah, maybe maybe throw the Saints in there Satan, you know, and maybe the Packers interesting ride the top four top four quarterbacks with interceptions, Farrar, Manning, and, and Drew Brees. They throw a lot. Yeah, but they've all, they've all overset their 2009 records in terms of- You're talking Eli Manning, right? Eli Manning, yeah. Well, I think Peyton's up there. I mean, he threw three yesterday. We only had four going into the game. Okay. You know Vic has zero? Zero, but he wasn't playing four games. I think the thing about Vic is- And this is what I remember from when he would play in the Falcons. It was always like, oh, you can't stop him, you can't stop him. And then someone figured out, well, if you just put a spy on him, pressure the hell out of him, hit him, you can make him, he's a human. And I think that's what's gonna happen. He's not a human. He is human. He's not a human. He is a human. Well, he got... hit a lot. I'll tell you that kid is not going to last the rest of the season. He's getting hit like that. Yeah, that's true. He's got to learn to slide. Speaking of learning to slide, Eli's got to learn to slide. Oh my god. You've got to get Girardi in there to help him out. That's terrible. How do you fumble like that? Fumble yourself. I don't even want to talk about this. Not giant kingdom. Thank god. Alright. I didn't predict you still predict. I'm hanging with my eight and eight prediction for the Giants. All right I don't care that they were six and two I stuck with eight and eight when they were six and two and hey look
00 Jake: They're coming back. It's six and four. So so I know they could go to him for the rest of the week They still have to play the Redskins twice. They got to play the Eagles one more time They got Jacksonville next week, which is not an easy win. They have they have some tough games coming up So I had a tweet that came in Christian neato yep no my at CN jets 95 He says at just jet Kingdom What is with the defense 20 points in the fourth quarter? We're known for defense So it was more of a question slash statement, and I gotta be honest equipment equipment gotta be honest can't answer I don't know what's with the defense I wish I did I wish I could put in a call to Rex and I know what's wrong with the defense what's wrong the demons is not as good as we think we are you know what the problem with the defense is now I'm gonna say what it is it's that we have in the middle we're very weak we're weak super underneath in the middle and we can't use the quarterback yeah we're not blitzing We're not even blitzing. Well, because we can't... The way to get to the quarterback is to send everybody. And if you send everybody... Last year we blitzed like crazy. And this year we're not even blitzing. Seriously, because we have the corners that are supposed to be like... Yeah, but you don't have... Only one of your safeties, Jim Leonard, can play. Whoever that other safety is whether it's Eric Smith or brownie pool. They can't cover shit. No, they can't cover so anytime you know It's it's slot receiver or tight end over the middle for yards. Yep, and it happens every time and I wish that they would get back to the overload blitz the the blitz from here the blitz from there Apparently they're saving it for the playoffs One last thing before we move off this game. There was a sighting. Tony Theriano? There was a Joe McKnight sighting. He played some good special teams yesterday. Oh no, better than that. There was a Vernon Gholston sighting. He almost had a sack. He almost had a sack! So it was, but Joe McKnight played a really good coverage game on special teams, Kickoff and Pun. So maybe he's found a little role on the team that he can play. Because Danny Woodhead's ripping shit up and doing cause. I swear to God every time I said he is ripping shit up and is pissing me off. And I'll tell you, the defense is one issue. Running's another. Running is not, if not, the ground and pound is boo. We're getting 90, it was 104 yards. Like we used to be able to just run on guys. Is it, we're suffering on the offensive line? Is it just Sean Green's not as good as we thought he was? Is it LT getting older? Is it, I don't know, is it the play call? Is it we now have weapons on offense? And so we're actually going to throw the ball much more than we thought we were. I'm gonna go with all of the above. All right. All right, so let's talk about the pick-up. This is my favorite time of the week.
00 Jake: How do you do buddy? Not as good as you. Oh really? How do you do? Tell me to talk about this Last week Law dog and Jake tie. Law dog is my brother-in-law And Jake tie with a lawyer from Boston. Oh really? They tie with 11. So we won. So we won the week. Well, we have no yet because there's a game tonight I could get 12. I got six. Six. That's good. That's almost half of what I got You know what's funny? I'm still ahead of you. By how many? By two. Two. Still ahead. So all I need is one good week. So what you're saying is I'm still winning and you're still losing. By two. So if the season ended today, I would win. No, because yes, if the season ended today. If season ended today, we'd be going to a certain bowl because we were 8 and 2. That's not how the season works. We'd be a first seed. Whatever Mike still winning with 88 overall is destroying you and this week anyway We're not gonna make picks today because the lines aren't out. It's still Monday and whether our lines out Oh, there's lines for Thursday's games, but we're gonna just do our throne picks for Thursday's game We have to pick the Thursday's game because we have them in the other ones Yeah, but we don't have we don't have the lines in our you know, we have the line The lines are up. I'll read the lines Yeah, but we don't even do lines for the New England game and the Jets game. So we'll do the line for the one game. Oh gosh. Let's just do it. Alright, so New Orleans heads to Dallas. And the line is... What's the line? New Orleans by three. New Orleans is giving three on the road in Dallas. Yep. Dallas playing better. They are not playing three better though. Oh, they're playing better. They have the home game on the Thursday, which always helps to have the home game on the Thursday. The other team has to travel even though it's not very far for New Orleans to travel. Yep. But New Orleans is playing a lot better too. I think this is a way better game than it looked two, two, three weeks ago. It was two three weeks ago. It looked like a dog of a game and now it's actually a decent game. So I Will pick New Orleans. Yeah, I I will pick New Orleans now, but later I will change my pick. No, I think that New Orleans is looking good. They're definitely looking better than three. That's I mean that's the thing three over Dallas elbow in Dallas now. I'm still saying I'm still saying three So I'll pick Norlins on this game Alrighty, and now we get to our throne picks because we get our two a of C East game so last week's throne picks I had Miami beating Chicago 1714 which didn't work workout. You had Chicago losing to Miami as well, 30-28. I was closer. Buffalo, Cincinnati. You had Cincinnati beating Buffalo, 31-17. I had Buffalo beating Cincinnati, 23-21. I had New England beating Indy, 31-28, which is right on the money. I was wondering why you're reading off the thrown picks. Yeah, I had to do something. You had indie beating New England 28-23 and then you had the Jets winning 26-17.
06 Jake: I had the Jets winning 24-16. I take it for the throne picks. Fine. Game set match. Alright, so the early game on Thanksgiving, the game that everyone watches during the day maybe you're preparing your turkey during this game and getting ready putting fixings out on the table I think they start at 1230 usually in Detroit New England they travel to after a this is a brutal schedule not nice a 415 game against the Colts at home you have to travel to Detroit and play at 1230 on a Thursday that is not very nice with the schedule makers that is what so only that's nice too is the Jets because there it just gives a bigger chance that they won't be ready for this game you got to be home for these games on Thursday and then to trap have to play a pretty much a night game You know the 415 start on the East Coast is a night game. Yeah, I mean the amount of hours between the end of the game. It's like 88 hours. It's nothing. So they're practicing today. You know, they don't do what they normally get to do. They don't get to get a day off. Oh, they got to be in there looking at tape or something today. They're going to tape today, tomorrow day off and then hit the road on. Practice, they got to travel. They got 1230 game on. day. I think I think good for Detroit. It probably normally would on the circumstances also knowing on twenty four Detroit twenty one. Yeah. There's everything in me in the world that wants Detroit to stand up like the latest But I just don't think it's gonna happen. And I think that- They're playing better. They're 2 and 8 with their- better than they happen. Yeah I don't think that that matters. I think New England wins this game and wins it decidedly. I think it's a 40-24 win for New England. Wowzers! Yeah 40 to 24. I think it just gets crazy. Like they just give it to Woodhead. He writes like 350 yards, six touchdowns. Good Lord. Alright, on to the game of the century. Game of the century. Millennium. The two and eight. Two and eight Cincinnati Bengals travel to the new Meadowlands to take on the J.E.T.S. Jets. Wait, is Batman and Robin coming? Batman will be there and Robin will be there. And, but Batman just said that his team sucks. They do suck. They're no good. They are no good. And they haven't won anything. They're terrible. They're no excuse. Let me tell you something. How many teams is Tio gonna go to that that team then looks bad that season? Is someone just gonna go? A plus B equals C. Well, he's not having a bad season, but you know who is? Carson Palmer. You know what they should do? Him and his brother look so alike, Carson and Jordan. They should just take Jordan and put him in Carson's uniform and take Carson and put
01 Jake: him in Jordan's uniform and just play Jordan. No one would know the difference. He's that bad this year. He's so bad. And for those who, you know, Jordan's the backup. in Cincinnati. They look, you look on the sideline when since he's on the field and you see a guy in a cap with a polymer on the back and they, I swear they're like identical. It's crazy. Is that weird? Is that the first time it's ever happened to have the backup in the I have no idea. I mean, maybe, I don't know. Did, did, uh, did, um, Hasselbeck ever backup Hasselbeck? I don't know. But I mean, I can't really think of like brothers who played together. That's like, half-al-back on half-al-back action. Yeah. That's crazy. Well, anyway, who do you think... So, who do you think will cover Tio? And who do you think will cover Ocho Senko? Rivas on Ocho, Krumarti on... Really? Tio Tio's bigger. I think the other way around. Tio's bigger, stronger guy. I think Rivas is more physical. I think he is, but he's a bigger guy. I like to put the big guy in the big guy. I think they're both big. I think Revas should be covering Tio. I think Tio's better. He is, that's true. He's more threat. And I think that he's more physical and Revas is more physical. Like, that's probably good reasoning. I'd go with that. I would like to see Reavis on Owens and Cromartie on Ocho and see what happens. Now they do have other weapons. They have Sejuk Benson who can run the ball. He can fumble. He can also fumble. They have Gresham who's a good tight end. They have Jordan Shipley who's a decent slot receiver. So they have a... Options and weapons on offense, they just have the worst quarterback in the league. The defense can't be pretty bad after giving up 49 points to a bill. That's a lot of points to give up to the bills. A couple of other interceptions and things. Still, I mean they ran for over 100 yards on them. Fitzpatrick just looks like Brady. He looks awesome. He was happy about that Harvard-Yale win. Very happy. So, I mean... I think you could look for a big boost from our defense this week. I have a feeling there will be turnovers, I have a feeling there will be sacks, I have a feeling they will be up for this game. I also think it's easier to turn around fast and play better defense than it is to turn around fast and play better. offense, it's just my gut, right, tells me that it's easier to do that. Not sure there's there's no scientific evidence behind that. A couple wrinkles in this game. Throw me a wrinkle. One, it looks like it's gonna be shit weather. That's a wrinkle from no- Like cold or rain. A little from calm a little from calm b. I'd prefer snow personally. I know, well I'm going to the game so I prefer not. Rain, I don't mind cold. I just don't like rain. So then rain you're going to this game What time are you planning on getting there? So I am not gonna tailgate. You're not tailgating No, because because originally eaten all day. Yeah, that's the whole thing a the people like normal tailgate aren't going
03 Jake: So you're not doing a turkey can't trash can't trash can't No, I will be doing an oven turkey and then we'll be either Driving or taking the trains might be the first time I take the train to the game Wow I would like to know how that goes. Yeah, so the idea going home doesn't look like it's a lot of fun on that train. Doesn't look good at all. So the idea is you're drinking and eating all day watching football Which is odd right because you don't get to do that normally and then go to a game So I feel like this is a game that I just gonna show up for the game I'm gonna show up, you know 45 minutes before the game walk around and just go to the game I don't think with no tailgate no need right after Thanksgiving It seems like seems like the right thing to do. So I'm just gonna go for the game Justin: No be there early enough to Jake: Cheer my head off and get miserable. Arrive early. I will arrive early. So that's one wrinkle. The other wrinkle is a little bit of the, well, it's kind of the sandwich. It's the sandwich game. Could have named this podcast the sandwich game. Turkey sandwich. Turkey sandwich game. Which is, we're right between a big, let's call it three big wins and kind of like, whoa, like the Jets are crazy, and going up against the page. in two weeks. Can't think about that game. Yeah, it's hard though, because people, I'm already thinking about it. I'm not. Well, I take it one day at a time. You just did, because I made you think about it. I take it one day at a time. You're just thinking about it. Who are we playing? Who are we playing in two weeks? The team are just saying. I don't even know. So, I think there's a little bit of like being sandwiched in a short week and then thinking about this team. So, I'm not sure. You know, this incident of Bengals just got destroyed by a team that we basically destroyed. We don't think they're good We have no time to prepare for them and we're basically much more worried about the team We have coming up in two weeks Are the Bengals gonna hold a grudge against the Jets for beating them last year? If they had enough talent they could So that's another one of the guys are still there. So that's the other thing Are they gonna be like well, we're out of the playoffs. We're just gonna spoil your world. I don't know P on my wheeze Give me Keys to the Castle, you go defense this time. I don't know if you like defense last time. I don't remember. So I have to pick the defensive keys to the castle? That's correct. Stop Cedric Benson. That's it? That's the key? Well, because Carson Palmer can't beat you. So if you stop, they're impatient because they have these diva receivers. So if you stop. Benson early and you know he runs early for like six attempts for nine yards and you get a three and out and then like a you know a quick drive and out and then you put up you know ten points you're up ten nothing they like to then start throwing the ball around and Palmer is sloppy he throws picks he throws a lot of dropped picks meaning he'll throw it right at your guy just catch it yeah uh he is sloppy this year i've seen him play a couple games i i know that they go they get down early and then they come back because they throw the ball around like crazy so i guess the key is on defense stop Benson early and then
07 Jake: take advantage of the turnovers that are gonna be presented to you because they will. The turnovers are there for the taking, take them. And I'll say on the offensive side is, you know, don't create your own. So last, the Texans game would have been lost because of a turnover. In essence. Sean Green fumble. I already had my fool and... It was gonna be him. Oh yeah. Yeah, so and this is gonna be this is me a cold. It's me a wet game It's going to be you know a night game. It's you're gonna be tired and beat down This is a game if ever there were a game to really just come out and be the team you were last year Not the team you are this year. This is the game come out and play them like you played them last year Play the just brutal defense run the ball up their gut and if you need to win this game 20 to three that's good and I agree But if they're gonna come up and start to pound it and start to and start to get back and then you know They do have enough weapons meaning Carson Palmer can throw the ball. Yes. No, he stinks. No, but he can throw the ball You can throw the ball. I think they have two good receivers who have proved that in the past they can catch the ball Oh, yeah, sure. So it's not like they have great years. It's not that they don't have weapons It's just a matter of can they connect enough? But we've proven as the Jets that even if you don't have weapons, if you just get a couple good plays, you can catch right up with us. So I think the offensive key to the game is keep a really good wide lead because I think they have a chance to come back on us. I agree. If they start whipping around, they're going to throw interceptions and it's going to be game over. I would love to see a defensive score. It's been a while since I think back to the Vikings game. To end the game? Yeah, I mean where's the defense when you need it to show up? I'd say yesterday they show up that last, you know, drive they actually did their job, but can't let a team come back Rex is gonna get on him and hurt their pride a little bit this week I think you're not the team we thought you were not defense. Yeah, he's gonna get on him And I think that the Giants are the number one defense By yardage giving up So I'm gonna predict it. I'm gonna throw some predictions out there. All right. I'm gonna call it, I actually do think what I'm saying is gonna happen. So I think we're gonna get up on them and just keep it and keep pounding it and beating them down and they're gonna give up points. So I'm gonna call it, Jets win 33-13. I have it 30 to 23. Cause I think we'll get up. And then like the back. They'll creep back and then the game will be over. Okay. All right. Well, that's it for this first week Day of podcasting because we got a long one. We will be back on Friday. That was only 56 minutes that's it.
