09 Justin: The best place to be is when expectations are high. Get used to it. It's always going to be that way. Get away from me! Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. Longest Running New York Jet the podcast. Period. I'm Jake and joining me, fresh off another week of crappy jets news, is Justin. Oh it is. It's brutal. I'm really depressed. Here's a thought. Here's my one positive thought of the day. Is... For the last two years, I've not been able to watch this Sunday's games. And why has that been? Justin: Because you've been at Jet Games on Saturday? Jake: No. This Sunday, the championship games, I've not been able to watch them on TV. Justin: Because you've been at them? Jake: Because I've been at them! And so I was literally thinking, I was like, this is a great football day. And I'm like, where was the last year? How did I watch this? It's like, you weren't. You were at the games. or either you were in Pittsburgh putting on 500 layers of clothing and getting ready to get, you know, hit with a towel for 17 hours or you were in Indy, I think we were just drinking in the hotel room getting ready, pre-gaming, or walking around the stadium. That's what we were doing walking around. Or was the second game, we were the first game in Indy. So then we got back with the loss and I probably just... went into a... I curled up in the corner and cried for 17 hours. Um... alright, well we have some news! There's definitely Jets news out there. Nothing fucking positive, but we have some news on Shoddy and we have some news on people we haven't hired and there's been a lot of talk. Basically one guy's been talking. Why is this guy even talking? Because I think he's trying to get a... spot on one of these shows. I think he thinks I've seen him on like four shows now so he must be I think he's trying to get like this his way. So anyway we'll talk about LTA speaking out and we'll talk about the playoffs. We'll talk about last week's game and and make some picks for this week. So maybe I can finally get my championship because I think I'm still tied for first and you are so far behind something funny. So last year as you beat me by one point, I will crush you this year, which will be fun. So we'll talk about that. All right. Well, let's kick into the first topic, which is really I guess the biggest time We'll tell a shoddy first. So it looked like shoddy was headed to the Rams there for a second or two Then they're like no then they went and watch some tape and they went no, we have a young quarterback But there's some other there's some other coaching changes the Colts fired their head coach that has direct impact Justin: on these New York Jets.
00 Jake: Mmm. Why so? Justin: Because it looks more and more as these moves happen in Indy that Mr. Manning will be released. Oh, I don't think so at all. Oh, I do. Really? Oh, yeah. Because they're not going to pay him $28 million and then, and then, we're not the first round picks. Well, remember the first round picks don't cost that much anymore. Yeah, they still cost and to have The number one overall pick at quarterback and the $28 million man at quarterback just doesn't seem right and I feel like they're just getting rid of anybody that's been there. The whole regime is gone. The only one left is Manning. And I gotta be honest, he's gone. I don't even want him, but he's coming to New York. No he's not. It's totally happened. No it's not. I don't even want him. I'm smiling. Jake: No, I don't. Again, I don't want it to happen if it means Gary Ross Sanchez. It's totally happening. So your prediction right now is Manning gets dumped from the cult, gets picked up by the Jets. Just dump Sanchez. Justin: He'll be dumped in the beginning of March when that whole thing... Jake: Before it was $24 million. Justin: Before that thing kicks in on like March 8th or 16th or whatever it is. Well, it was just before the draft. and At that point he'll be able to go wherever he wants and I feel as though... Jake: Oh right, he'll be a free agency frenzy. But the problem is that he may ever play again. He's still not cleared to play. It's the kind of move that this idiot team makes. Now we're an idiot team? We used to be like a beloved awesome team. Now we're an idiot team. I love my little idiot team. Two years in a row we're in the anti-championship. Justin: I love my reactionary idiot team. But this is what we do. I don't think we would do this. When have we done this before? Other than Favre? Oh, you mean other than three years ago when we did this? Well, four years ago. When else have we done this aside from just a couple years ago? Jake: Well, Favre versus Manning? I would take a Manning. Justin: They're in the same stratosphere. Jake: No, no, they're not even in the close. No, no. Farve had years... Justin: Farve came up with one of his best years ever. Jake: Farve has years where his team sucks the eggs. Not necessarily. Manny doesn't have those years. The last 10 years, he's been in the playoffs. Every 5 years. Justin: Farve was... I don't know how many times he's won MVP, but I betcha it's more. Super Bowl winner. All time, I mean, they're in the same conversation. Jake: He was also much older. I think Farboo was like 38 and Manning's 34. But also never missed the whole season, ever. Right. Like never missed a game, ever. Well, he didn't hit Manning until this year. Right, but then he just missed the whole season. Well, I'm saying, you're doing top 5 quarterbacks in the world ever to play the game. Or, I don't know, in the last five years, I don't think Favre makes that list. Let me put it this way. Yeah. I think Favre doesn't make that list because he didn't retire as a Green Bay Packer.
02 Justin: There's some backlash on him for doing what he did. And if he would've just retired as a Packer... he'd have been right up there. Jake: All right, so go ahead and make your full prediction. I'm with the full thing. No, no, no, go crazy. So, offices and he gets, no, just do it. Make the prediction, because it happens. I just hate it, but it's gonna happen. It's awesome, so what happens? He gets dumped. Dumped. We go after him, pay him a boatload of money. We dump Sanchez. Justin: I don't know if we pay him a boatload of money. I think we pay him a boatload of. Jake: Incentive. Incentively money. Like Super Bowl, you get like $40 million. Like if you start every game. Okay. But we pick them up, we dump Sanchez or not? Yeah, I think so. We dump Sanchez. I don't want this. No, I'm not saying. I just want you to run the whole gamut. If you think this is gonna happen, and then next year we do what? Oh, manning. No, no, no. And then do what as a game? Like how, how will we do? Oh, really well. We're gonna do well either way. No, we go to the playoffs. Sure. We win the playoffs? Justin: I have to say yes. Jake: We go to the Super Bowl and we win the Super Bowl. Of course. So this is the greatest thing ever. Why are you saying you don't like it? But I think we can do it with Sanchez. That's why. I think we can do it with a 25 year old. Well, if net net is the same price, let's put price aside. It's a dollar each. You can get a dollar, you can get Manning for next year, exactly as he is right now, or a dollar and get Sanchez, exactly as you're now, for next year. You would pick Manchester or Manning? For one year I'd have to pick Manning. You'd be an idiot. Okay, but two years! Manning might play for four more years. Justin: I know. Jake: So, okay, four more years. A dollar a year. Sanchez for four more years, a dollar a year, four bucks? Justin: No, I'll pick Manning any day. Jake: So then why would you not want this to happen? It's that I don't know that he'll play those years. Oh, okay. I don't know that he'll ever play. Well, right, but then that would be the most stupidest mistake in the world to sign someone who would never play. Justin: I also just don't think it's smart to give up on a first round pick who's like has the experience that Sanchez has had and the success that he's had. I was pondering this and thinking it over. When you were reflecting. Yeah. I like the fact that we went 8-8 and it's considered a complete abomination. That's awesome. That's great. Jake: Because the teams have won 7-9 and they're like... Justin: We used to be the 1-15 Jets. If you go 8-8 and that's considered just pathetic and a waste and awful and the worst season ever. At 8-8, shit, I'll take that. If we're going to be like... If that's our low... If that's our low 8-8, that's the low watermark there. That's pretty good. I'll take it. That's good eight eight season is not under 500. I mean sure we didn't beat anybody No, it didn't be anybody. I mean, you know what interesting fact again just back to the manning thing just for a second And it's gonna lead into the Tomlinson thing yeah, because it seems like what Tomlinson is saying is there Sanchez and there's homes Okay Jake: Yeah, that's part of what he's saying.
00 Justin: And they're not on the same page, and it was pretty clear they weren't on the same page. In retrospect, you look back and you're like, yeah, fuck, they were not on the same page at all. Jake: Right, but that's the thing. Last year they were like, you couldn't separate them, they were doing these great things. This year it's like... Justin: I just wonder what... I wonder if like... Jake: ABS, anybody that's in, Tony... Justin: Well, I just wonder if it was... And this is another thing I was thinking about was that... First off, if you brought Manning in... There's no rifting with Manning, okay? He's the captain leader from the moment he steps in the locker room, there's no question about it. And Mr. Santonio, home Super Bowl MVP, whatever... You will listen to what Kate Manning says because he works harder than you, he's better than you, he's accomplished more than you. You're gonna listen. He's not a child. Like he will sit you down in the chair in the corner and yell at you. Now that's one thing. Jake: Second thing is that he will also probably make you one of the greatest. He'll make you Justin: the best season ever. You will love it. Now you will take it and you'll love it. Now the At the beginning of the year we were like, we lost this guy, we lost this guy, and we were like, oh the wide receivers are even, or better, I thought they were better. We overlooked intangible guys, and guys that have been in the locker room that probably kept it sane, and like, Jarso Kottry, Richardson. Sean Ellis, like Sean Ellis had been with the Jets forever and he was like, you know solid on the defense kept things together Richardson for all you saw it on hard knocks. They're like we can't cut him. He's worked too much in the locker room Right. Fuck the locker room. They play on the field. Apparently that matters Yeah, and you know country was again a veteran who've been there and was probably like a voice of reason with You know, he was the veteran, not Holmes. Jake: The joke is, of the two of those guys, two of them were in the playoffs, or were in the playoffs. Justin: Well, one of them was retired. Jake: Right, that's what I'm saying. Justin: Anyway, so I feel like, you know, Kachri could have been a guy that would have stepped in there as a receiver. Right. In the same position, they practiced them together. And said, listen, Holmes. Listen, Holmes? Listen, homie. Relax Like stop it. Yeah, this is like pimps slap Fuck up. Like shut the fuck up. Right cuz you know plaques goes not Well, he's doing it's a purpose. He's also not like that sounds person. You've never been known as like the locker room guy right, you know, he's better in sure, but he just took two years off for shooting himself in the leg. Like, it's not like he had that... Jake: Yeah. Here's the other spin to this. And this isn't the... I don't want this to be a moment of Sanchez discussion. Although, that's basically what we're gonna discuss in the next eight months. Shouldn't Sanchez be that guy who says, shut the fuck up? He should be! Shouldn't he be telling his punk, shut the fuck up?
00 Jake: It's unfortunate, but he is a kid. So he's 24 and fuck it. This guy's 27. I've been in the league for 3 years. Holmes is 28. Justin: Holmes has been to the top. Super Bowl MVP, that's pretty much as good as it gets. And here's this kid who they're quote unquote coddling. And you know, treating like a child and treating like a baby and beaming him. And maybe you don't like it. He's not gonna listen to that guy. He's being coddled. Why do I have to listen to the baby, the new guy? Or even though he was on the team the year before, it just... Something... There's just some lack of leadership going on and it's unfortunate that LT came out and is the guy who... At least he's putting his name on it, but... Jake: Well, I read his stuff and I... So I read all his stuff. It's an interview on Showtime. I consider him a leader though. But everything he said, well first of all he's not coming back yet so that's clear. Justin: Yeah because he's calling them they and not us. Jake: Right but that's fine. They wanted. Listen he had two years. It's fine. I actually don't disagree with anything he said. They said is Sanchez a... does Sanchez work hard? He's like he's always the first one in, he's always the last one to leave. he works hard. They said, does Sanchez get coddled or does he get babied or whatever they call it. He said yes because he doesn't have competition. But you notice how the news media spent and said Thomas and Carl Sanchez a baby. No, what he was saying was he doesn't have competition and in that way he's not like... and he went on. I heard him speak on... I watched his interview on ESPN and he said Listen, everybody needs competition. That's what this thing is. If you don't have a guy behind you who can take your job, you're not going to do well. Like, you need to have someone behind you pushing you, whatever. And for the first couple years, we, the Jets, the Jets fans, we, the organization, thought, well, you know, better to have someone who's like an old gray beard over there who he can rub his boogers on, and maybe that'll be helpful. And I think that's not helpful anymore. And so... This is why this, you know, if you want to turn the positive spin is, they're gonna pull in someone who can fight for that job this next year. Whether it's Manning and they decide they can figure out how to keep both of them, I don't know. Whatever. They're gonna pull in someone who's gonna be like, open competition. Whatever. Second of all, they're pulling a new coach. And that new coach, it's all Queen Slate. It's no more, you know, oh, you're our guy, we helped you, we went and interviewed you out there at USC, and we've been with you for three years. Sperano doesn't give a shit. Sperano is gonna make his self look good. His self is gonna be measured by the offense. If his offense isn't good, he will be fired again. So, my guess is, he's gonna be pushing. Harder and he's also older he has more experience and I think I don't know what his scheme is or whatever the fuck how much Wildcat we're gonna run or I don't really know anything about his scheme he you know, but I think that there's going to be an influx of new attitude into the Jets and I think that will help Sanchez or whoever her quarterback is I Actually think at this point you shouldn't have gone to hired sperano if you want
04 Justin: because you got Manning's guy in the back pocket. Tom Miller. Got him right there. He's sitting there. Please, come on back. You don't even have to do anything. Manning knows the offense. He'll teach it. He'll teach it. Sit there with the headset on. A man who calls every play on the field. The guy who does that. Jake: He doesn't call every play on the field. He gets plays and he makes calls based on the plays. Justin: You tell me he couldn't call every play on the field? Jake: No, he's not the offensive coordinator. You tell me he couldn't be? No. Really? Well, he could be the officer of the quarter, but you can't be the officer of the quarter. It's like you could be the running back and the quarterback. No. No, those are two different things. You physically cannot do those things. You can't do physically get into that. You can't be looking over your entire set of things and getting ready for the huddle. You cannot. You can't have the entire thing memorized in your head. You do understand that's how football Justin: used to work, right? I understand. But you see those, you see those sheets now that... Who says it has to be that way? Jake: Oh, just be like, hey dude, you're the grass. Oh, never. Justin: You think they didn't run plays? Like all the way through the 70s and 80s they didn't run plays in the NFL. They just said, dude, go out far and I'll throw it down the line. Jake: Go far and I'll throw it. Justin: Order backs used to call the game. Man needs a throwback. He can do that. Jake: So I just want to put it down in prediction. You're predicting... Manning back. Manning becomes a jet. Justin: It feels that way with the firing of Caldwell, which totally deserves it. Like, I'm sick of people defending this dude, Caldwell. Here's his three year span. Inherits Tony Dudge's team, goes to the Super Bowl, loses Super Bowl. Yep. Next year goes to the playoffs, gets a home game in the first round, loses. Third year, asterisk, no manning, wins two games. That's complete backwards regression. That's fireable. Good point. Three years, totally fireable. Jake: Good point. He's gone. Gone. Fuck him. What other news is out there? Justin: Fuck him right in the balls. Jake: What other news is out there? Justin: I just wanted to say that on the air. Jake: On the air? Because you're a broadcaster? On the air. Well, talk about last week. Well, there was last week. Yeah, so... Last week. Justin: So how big of a New York Giants fan are you at this point? I'm not. I got... What was that? That was basket. Okay. I got to say at this point... I kind of don't like them anymore. Why? I was on the bandwagon. Now you're all high-five there But it's making me sick. Why? It just is It's making you sick because we're not there. Yeah. Yeah, it's a jealousy thing. Jealousy depression a little bit like it's it's it's not fun It's not funny. It's not fun I'm not enjoying it, not enjoying watching the Giants win at all at this point.
02 Justin: I was ready for Green Bay to just knock them out, say Giants fans you had a great season, you lost to the best team in the league, what can you do? But fuck they had to go beat them and it just makes me sick. It was like last year how Giant fans must have felt when we went up to New England and beat them. Right. Like, Giant fans must have just hated it. Jake: Well, they didn't tell us that they hated it. Justin: Oh, that's because we have a little inferiority thing. Jake: Yeah, well, that's the thing. I'm turning it around. I don't have an inferior thing. We were in the NFC Championship this year. Great. Do it. Get the Super Bowl. Win those Super Bowl. It can't get any worse. They've already won. Three Super Bowls? Been in five? Been in six? Well the Giants get to the Super Bowl every like four years. I think we came up with like seven, every seven years. But whatever, five! Would you rather have them or the Patriots? This is my brother. So my brother's a big Patriots fan. He's been emailing me all week, texting me and emailing me saying, you know, what? So you're gonna root for the Giants or the Patriots? He doesn't get it, really. He doesn't get the like... One of them is my mortal sworn enemy, and one of them is the team that plays in the same stadium as I do, who I went to two games, or three games this year, and watched the Giants. And I will say the whole fantasy thing, having Eli as my quarterback for the year, you do, you end up rooting for that team. Like, I hate to say it, it's weird, but you do. So, and again, we have a friend of ours who's a huge Giants fan and it's fun to see him have a good time. That's true. So, I'm all Oja, I'm all New York. I will. The New York team won the Super Bowl. I'll just keep saying that. New York team, who won New York? I will root for them. And for all those Patriots fans, it'd be nothing better than to have them lose again to the Giants. I'm just a little... I'm upset about it. Yeah, but don't take it personally. Justin: I just kind of wish that these were four teams I didn't care about. Jake: Well, just one of them I don't care about. 49ers, I could give a shit. Justin: I wish they were all like that. Oh, well, that's not four teams. Jake: It's like, oh, I see. Yeah, there's... There's, it basically goes from the teams that care about the least. I basically want the Giants to win because A, they've been taking it away from either beating Baltimore or beating Patriots, win-win. If they beat the Patriots again in the Super Bowl, that would just be the best thing ever. It would just be awesome. Because at any time a Patriots fan, you'd just be like, yeah, New York normally owns you. Whatever. Talk to me later. Then... No! Then it's the Giants. No, then it's the JET FAN. They... Justin: It doesn't work that way. Jake: Yeah, it does. I'm a New York fan. Justin: No, you're not. Jake: Oh, well, you know what? Let's get to our... It's my fallback. Well, last week. All right, so what were the games? Justin: Well, the early game on Saturday, I had a really good time. I was in New Orleans. Jake: Yes. Justin: And that was the game. It was the Saints game. So we went out to like a big sports bar. are. and it was packed and that game was so exciting. Down the stretch, that fourth quarter of that game, it just went back and forth and back and forth. And I videoed some of the reactions of like the crowd.
01 Justin: Yeah. It was not crazy. Great game by San Francisco, all credit in the world. They were awesome. Their defense is far superior than... I thought it was even holding the Saints down. I know that they gave us some points in the fourth quarter down the stretch and it ended up in the 30s but still they had Drew Brees under wraps for most of the game. They forced a lot of turnovers. They hit hard and Alex Smith is better than you think because he's pretty decent. That's why you don't overreact and that's why you wait. on young quarterbacks because it's there. What's he in? Is he in the sixth, seventh season? He's like seventh or eighth season, but he's the first overall pick, and he's still young. And it's like, he has the talent, and they put the stat on the board. He has played seven years, and he's had seven offensive coordinators. Jake: Right. Justin: And it's not exactly the right way to do a group of quarterbacks. And has he been there the whole time? The whole time. Jake: Oh, it's been the whole time, but they've given up on him and come back to him and given up on him come back Justin: They started other guys they have yeah, he was injured one full season basically But really you don't There's talent you don't give up on so there's a reason to want the 49ers And then Aaron Rodgers were drafted in the same year And they picked Alex Smith number one and then Rodgers slid all the way into the 20s Right But they obviously thought that much about Alex Smith at the time. Clearly you can't even argue, you can't make the argument that he's better than Aaron Rodgers. No. But he has been given kind of a raw deal. He didn't get to sit behind Brett Fire for three years. He got thrown to the fire. He hasn't had the same scheme for every year that he's been a starter. As a matter of fact, he's had an exact different scheme every single year. Jake: And I think it's probably, you said offensive corners, he's probably had three or four head coaches. Yeah. At least three. All different. Justin: Yeah, no consistency. So no ability to actually grow in an environment So all those who want to jump on Sanchez for having an eight and eight season This guy had to win three win seasons right now look right so relax He's actually better than you think not saying he's the best but he had a good season. You only threw five picks this year Jake: It's pretty good. Yeah, they had their their thing was what we again we've said it before They were the Jets two years ago, which was, we're not gonna rely on this guy to win us games, but we're gonna put defense and running, and then we're gonna have him do stuff that he needs to do to win the game. And he did, like, those throws took... Justin: And that sweep, that running play for touchdown, how great was that? That was not Tim Tubo out there, and that was like a real quarterback, and then they ran this sweep play. What a great play. Alright, so that went, that was a fun game, that was for me the most fun game of the weekend. The next game was kind of a snooze fast New England, Brady throws six touchdowns, Gronkowski goes nuts, they just steamrolled Denver. I think we all thought that, actually I picked Denver to win. Kind of jokingly, but not really. I was like, yeah, I'll just pick them or fuck it. Yeah, no. That didn't work out. Jake: The Tebow train is off the tracks.
00 Justin: New England, their offense is pretty darn good. Yep. So, yeah. Jake: Yeah. News flash. New England's still good. Justin: Tom Brady, still like the best. Jake: News flash, still good at home. Justin: Still the best. All right. So moving right along. Baltimore. Um, faced, uh, who did they face? Houston, that's right. So long ago. Yeah. Um, Houston hung in there. They got down early fast and that'll fuck you up in Baltimore. I mean, they were down like by 14 in the first quarter. They fought back. I mean... Flacco sucks. He's just awful and I say Flacco sucks like Every other like fan out there says Sanchez sucks, right? Like he's not Good like there's something about him. He just throws the ball into the ground or like just can't make a big play Like I give me Sanchez any day, but here's this guy who's been in the league four years, made the playoffs all four years, second time in the AFC Championship game. Hey listen, I have. Jake: Yeah, and their defense is always top three. That's right. Again, if you went back, if you said if our defense was gonna be top three, doesn't matter. If we had a top three defense this year, I think we'd be the best. Justin: Yeah, the top three defense, the best blocking fullback in the league, Andre Rice, and your quarterback could be anybody. Jake: Right. Pretty much. I don't know. I think flaco gets a little bit No, we're not good. He's we saw him live. No, we know we saw him I understand he he has he makes those big plays when he can he's not his decision making isn't there But he's a four-year quarterback. I Think he has the physical talents. Maybe doesn't the mental talents, but I think his thing, more of anything, I didn't really like his attitude when they were talking about it and saying, well, if we win this week, you guys won't probably, you all say I had nothing to do with it and we lose, you guys are going to say that I did what this interview was. So, like, you know what? That's the kind of stuff you don't really want to say. Like, you want to say that, say it to your mom or your sister or girlfriend. Justin: Well, if a friend came out and just blasted him, basically. Jake: Yeah. I... I actually had, well we'll talk about our picks in a second, but I think I might be flipping one of my picks. Okay. Alright. And the last game was... Justin: The last game was the Giants Green Bay. Great game. Yeah, and I watched that with a slew of Giants fans in New Orleans. It seemed like a whole bar. Jake: So you went all the way to New Orleans and then you watched games in bars the whole time. Justin: So fucking stupid. You know, I came home and I was talking to my girlfriend and... She was like, what'd you do? And I was like, trip kind of ruined, because we had to watch football all the time. And she had a big aha, told you so. Because when we go away for a weekend, I have to be home for Sunday. Football ruins everything. And I made the statement, football ruined my new world. Jake: She's got eight months a year that she can not have football. Justin: It ruined my New Orleans trip. So you chose it anyway. It's true We chose this weekend because it was a long weekend because you had the Monday off
02 Justin: And people needed that long weekend, but anyway the giant game they They played great. They played great defense They made big plays on offense that Green Bay defense is a complete fraud. Yeah, they are not what they were last year Jake: Well, they've like flip-flopped like from I think fifth or sixth best to Thirty-second. They were one of the best defenses in the league last year Justin: How did they just give up that Hail Mary at the end of the half and like oh just to give up some of the Plays that they gave up to nix like the Hail Mary to nix and the touchdown to nix. It was like Well, we're gonna we're gonna play flag football and you're gonna be playing tackle and Jake: What do you mean? If I bump you with my shoulder, aren't you supposed to fall to the ground? Justin: Like, come on dude, fall. The Giants get a lot of long touchdowns. Jake: They do. They do. They get a ton of those. And that's going to be the problem this week is, those are going to be hard to come by. Yeah, San Francisco. San Francisco tackles much better. And that field's not going to be, not the Green Bay. Green Bay is cold, so it's not a wet field. It's supposed to be raining. Yeah. So it's going to be a mud ball. I think the Giants, if they're gonna win this game, we'll talk about it in a second, they're gonna need to play Mudball, and that's not what they've been playing. Justin: So let's go to these early games. The first games at 3- How'd you do last week? Jake: Um... Let's see. I don't know. I'm gonna go look it up. I think they only won one game. Um... God, you're just- you're no good. Justin: You're bad at life. Jake: You are no good at this, and you suck at life. Uh... I hit two and you... I hit zero. Zero. Justin: In this thing. Zero. I hit one and the other thing. Zero. I don't know why my picks change. Jake: Wow. So not good. Justin: So go against these, because New England is hosting Baltimore at three o'clock, the early game on Sunday. And we're gonna pick the spreads. Yeah, so New England's home. They're favored by seven. Jake: Hey, you might as well give me a score because you have to write it down here anyway. That's true. I'll give it to you as I pick it. So, um, I believe New England will be winning this game. Yep. Justin: I do not believe they will be covering this game. Jake: I'm going to change my pick because it was 7.5 and I won the hook last week with the uh... With Baltimore I got the hook so I was gonna be like, I'll stick with the hook because I got that Baltimore hook last week, you know, it was literally a 7.5. It was a 7 point game and it was 7.5 points, right? But it's 7. don't like it. Don't like a seven point spread. Love a seven and a half. Seven I don't. I'm actually changing my pitch. Are you just calling a push? No, well no I'm changing my pitch. A couple things. One is that when defensive players start calling out their head coach or calling out their thing, there seems like a collapse going on and I just feel like Two things happened. I still don't feel Baltimore's offense is very good. Now I said that last week. That's why I didn't think they'd cover And I think I think that the Patriots defense is better They've gotten some players back to get back Chung they got a couple people who it's like
03 Jake: They're actually playing better ball defensively than they were before so anyone really gives Justin: New England any credit on defense where I think their defense is better than you think and I think it's gonna be better tomorrow than it Jake: Or sorry Sunday than it is so is whereas a seven and a half. I was gonna. I think Baltimore keep it close I don't think so oh I'm changing it now cuz I had it 20 to 24 New England I'm now changing it because new it doesn't score it under 20 if you had it to 24 20 New England Justin: Why wouldn't you stick with Baltimore? That's what I had it, but I'm changing it Jake: So now I'm saying 20, you know what, 17 to 30 Baltimore. They're going to get crushed. Justin: I have it very similar. I have it 23-17 New England. Jake: 23-17, okay. But that would be a 6. Justin: So I'm going to pick Baltimore. Jake: All right. Justin: I don't know, I think Baltimore's defense is pretty good. So I think... Jake: Every banged up. Here's the thing, you can't cover these tight ends anymore. No one covers tight ends well. Justin: Yeah, I think, I think Baltimore's gonna figure out a way to get to Brady early and hit him. Yeah. And that'll shake, shake rattles. Jake: I mean, this will mean that I'm rooting for the Patriots, which is just painful or whatever. Justin: Oh, you have to root for your picks. It's what you think's gonna happen, not what you want to happen. Jake: Well, no, because I'm in, I'm playing to win. Yeah, whatever. Justin: Next game in San Francisco, supposed to be horrible weather. The Giants are flying across the country, yep, coming off of a huge win. Umm, you know, these are the kinds of games that the Giants lose. These are the games that they lose because, because like I'm sitting there with my Giants fans friends in New Orleans and they're rooting for San Francisco the day before they won in Green Bay. Because they want to play San Francisco, not New Orleans. They lost to both of them. They lost to Green Bay too. Yeah, they lost all three of them. These are the kinds of games that the Giants lose because they don't look up to the team they're playing. They look down to the team that they're playing. Jake: Okay. Justin: They lose these games all the time. They lost-in-home to Seattle this year. I mean, they do this. This is what the Giants do. Okay. That being said, this is a different team. I don't know what happened to them between week 15 and 16. So it's right before they played the Jets. Something happened there where they just turned it on. And they can do two things really, really well. They can rush the passer, and they can throw the fucking ball. Jake: And they can convert third downs. Justin: They throw the ball. Jake: The third and 11 though I find... No, because he throws the ball so well. Justin: He's very good at just hitting the open receiver. Right. And Cruz and Nix and Manningham, that's a lot to cover.
02 Justin: That being said, I'm gonna go ahead and pick the Giants. Wow. They're an underdog, which helps their mentality. Jake: Yep. I think it's... They played here once before. Justin: They lost, but not quite much. They played and they lost. They could have won that game. Here's how I think this is gonna play out. I said this last week, I wish I would have said it on the podcast. I said, the Giants lost to Green Bay. They're gonna beat them. The Giants lost to New Orleans and San Francisco. Jake: They're gonna beat them. The Giants beat New England. They're gonna lose to them. That would have been good if you said that last week. I know. Well, that's what I was saying to everybody down in New Orleans. You can ask them. So I'm gonna pick the Giants. Wait, hold on. Let me call. Justin: Ring, ring. New Orleans? I'm gonna pick the Giants. Thanks. and I'm gonna pick them win real ugly 13-10. Jake: Wow. Yeah, I think it's gonna be a little bit more score. I could probably lower it a little bit just because, in fact, I'll lower it one point. But I agree, but they're a different team. They're also a team that during the regular season couldn't run the ball for shit. Post-season they're putting up 140-40. Out of nowhere. They're comboing it and I think this is... Justin: How is it going to run the ball against San Francisco though? Jake: There aren't but they're going to do it. They're going to run the ball. I think that they've decided that they need to keep that going because again it's always a set up the run, make the pass, whatever. I think this is going to be closed. I could see it going either way but I kind of have a New York thing going on and I would love to see the Giants make the Super Bowl and win the Super Bowl because it means an AFC team. that we played and beat us doesn't win, means the Patriots lose if they get there. So I'm kind of rooting for the Giants to win this puppy. And we'll see. You know the weather is weather and we'll see if it's really like this muckfest. They both have good runners. I think the problem probably is that... The 49ers don't get gassed for huge plays. Whereas the Giants, as we've seen earlier, I think Bills gash them, I think the 49ers gash them. They have these things where they'll get gashed for a big running play. You don't want to do that against the 49ers. Then they'll take... That's what they want to do. They'll just continue running on you. You know, playing that four-man front that the Giants play with their... that sometimes it doesn't allow them to stop the run very well. Get to the passer, great. But they're playing not these big, meefy guys, they're playing, you know, strong, fast guys. But I think they're going to win. I'm rooting for them win. I think they'll win 23-20. And I'm going to root for them. Justin: I mean, here's the thing though. I kind of like San Francisco. Like I like this team. Like I don't like the 49ers, I just like this team. I like the way they play. I just like their style, I like their quarterback story, I like the coach story, I like the way that they play defense. I like their offensive style. They have a, they don't have a whole lot
04 Justin: of talent but they make a lot out of it. Like I just like that style of football. I would love to see. Jake: Harbo Harbo. Harbo Harbo. Justin: I think the best storyline really is New York, New England and the rematch. Oh yeah. That's the best. I think New York Baltimore is the second best with the rematch. Near Baltimore? It played about 10, 12 years ago. I think that's a good rematch. Oh, defensively. And I really just couldn't care less about the Harbaugh brothers. Like I don't want to see a week of Harbaugh brother bullshit on my television. Jake: Would you rather see more Patriot stuff? Justin: Yeah, I think they're interesting. Jake: Oh, okay. I think Balochik Brady, I think that's interesting. They'll be talking about how Brady is now the most winningest. That's fine. Justin: I think he's the best anyway. You're the one who doesn't. Jake: You know, I know... Well, first of all, you came back on that conversation because you... I never did. Because you said... Justin: I always said Brady's the best. Jake: Except for when you lose Brady, you still go to the playoffs, you lose Manning, you can't feel the team. Justin: I did make that statement, but that's more of an indictment on the coach. Jake: And the general manager for not putting in someone. Justin: And the coach Bill Belichick could win with whatever. But Brady, wow, now you're winning 14 games a year. Jake: This is the 10th year anniversary of the Tuck Rule. Justin: Is it? Jake: Yeah it is. Interesting I was watching the play. Justin: I remember where I was when that happened. Jake: I was sitting right in my apartment watching it. I was in the hotel room. I remember... I was watching the play, interesting now, if you played it exactly the same play So Whatever. Alright, well that's it for this nice little podcast. A little 30, 35 minute or 37 minute. We got our picks and come to JetKingdom.com, go to Twitter, just JetKingdom for Justin. Justin: Oh, before we get off. Yes. One really quick thing. Yeah. What's your take on the packs Jake: cheating and hiring Danny? Cheaters always cheat. Yeah. It's not, that's not cheating because it's not actually against the rules. It's allowed. They're going to change the rules. Justin: Yeah, I just say cheating because it seems like it shouldn't be allowed. Jake: Well, if they change the rules then they will be cheating. It, it, whatever. Justin: It doesn't seem un-kosher to you. It does! Because it's not like the guy got fired. like during the middle of the season but it was the end of the season yeah and then they fired the head coach yeah so like they just swept up into that like if Spagnolo didn't get fired from the Rams like well what are the Daniels have Jake: quit and gone well why didn't we do that Sperano was fired. We could have hired him on before we played the Dolphins that last week. Why didn't we do that?
00 Jake: Like, you know. That was dumb. That was dumb. We should hire them. Retrospect. Retrospect, we should have hired him. Justin: We should have hired him. We know. He was fired in the middle of the season. Yeah. Like, I feel as if there's a difference between waiting till the very end of the season... Seasons over and now the playoffs are starting. Here's the thing if you're in the playoffs Jake: You know how to hire coaches who shouldn't be able to pick up Justin: guys that are like Jake: Just got cut in week 16 because in this this example is really a you know an example where Someone could make an advantage of it. But again, it's not against the rules. Is it slimy? It's a little slimy very slimy, but Also, one of the things we didn't do it. Alright, we'll go to iTunes and subscribe to the podcast. We'll also have a new thing. Leave a review there, that'd be great. We'll be back next week. We'll talk about the... Maybe we'll do next week, we'll talk a little bit about the games this week. Maybe we'll do some sort of season review grades and stuff like that. And kick off our Ever President, ever going forward until April. draft talk But because we got to get ready for that and as always until next week go chats
