16 Jake: This is episode number 37 of the Jet Kingdom podcast for Thursday, December 4th, 2008. Crazy Town. Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast as always on this side of the digital aisle. It's me, Jake. And as always, joining me from the other side of the digital aisle. Way over here. Way over there. It's Justin. As always, it's Justin. It's on the other side. Justin, welcome Justin. How you doing? Justin: Um, I could be better. Um, to be honest, pretty shitty week last week. Not a good week. I wasn't, I imagine you had a worse time of it than I had because you were actually there. I took that game off. Yeah. Jake: Well, let's get right into it. Let's talk about the week that was. Let's talk about the Jets versus... uh... broncos you know this was it this was a chance for the jets although certainly looking back on it now this is a chance that jets to put up that stop you know put it a space big space in between Justin: i think everybody a opportunity to leave a big opportunity law is on the road Jake: uh... into impressive games against the patriots against the time undefeated tightens and we win and in some ways as a jet fan as we've talked about you know You're waiting for the letdown. Where's the letdown? Well, we got it, right? We got the letdown. It was a pissing down. Actually, it wasn't pissing down, but it was just raining, cold. It was nasty. It was just nasty. I did have the pleasure of being in the parking lot for at least two and a half, maybe three hours. And I did have the pleasure of sitting in the rain. until they took over in the fourth quarter when they took off with when they basically started to sit on the ball and then I left because you know when they're sitting on the ball, so I It was it was pretty miserable from from start to end. There were a couple key things I think were Where we're big but you know Basically, we didn't stop them. He didn't stop. We didn't say didn't stuff Jake Cutler We didn't stop the running game and this this is what we said in before and I don't want to be right because it's a bad thing to be right about. But we said, you know, there'll be some running back, some unknown running back who will come in. He'll be, you know, and you'll have the game of his life. Well, that guy, he did. He came in at 129 Justin: yards. I know it's unfortunate. It was the first game that the Jets had actually given up over 100 yards to a single running back and it was to a guy named Peyton Hillis who actually, I mean, Never heard of the guy, but I looked at his stats actually, and he's had a couple good weeks in a row, and it seems to always happen in Denver,
01 Justin: where they just shove a guy in there running back, and he just turns into a great player, because he's running behind the Denver system, or the Denver line, or whatever it might be. Yeah. But I noticed a few, you know, a couple observations around or about this game that I thought were... They were a little odd. The game was called a little odd. Don't you think that there was a lot of circumstances where it looked as if Denver was getting kind of the... I don't want to say, you know, the... It was almost as if they were the home team. They were getting kind of like, you know, those breaks, those little calls or like, you know, what really bothered me was every time the Jets would get some momentum, a fucking Bronco would just get injured. Oh no, he just... He'd just fall down. I mean, they'd fall down, and it happened on a couple plays in a row. It happened like six times, I swear. We injured- we basically beat the shit out of them, I guess. But every time we get a little momentum, oh, there's a guy on the ground. And oh, there's a timeout, and the game stops. It was such a long game. There was no flow to it, no tempo. Every time the Jets hit a big play, or had something going, Denver would just- you know, fake an injury, or I don't want to say they faked an injury, they probably didn't, but it appeared that way, because it was... it stunted the flow of the game, and I feel like, um... it was almost bullshit. I was yelling at the TV, like, this is crap, they keep... every time we get a little momentum or a good play going or two quick plays in a row where we're going down the field oh there's a guy injured well there's there's a lot to say because oh Jake: there's another guy injured one of the things that did happen is we did go we started to have success uh using the hurry up and yes they started to get injured and i'm air quoting for you at home um but yeah there is certainly some shenanigans going on that makes me upset i will say the the uh refereeing and this game It was awful. I mean piss poor. There is sometimes when you just Sometimes when you're a fan and you know that the call didn't go your way and you realize well You know, that's because I'm a biased fan and there's sometimes but the whole game flipped on its on on I'm gonna say something and when there's sometimes as a fan you see a play and it's so Outstandingly badly called so just unbelievably badly called by the refs. I mean, such a blown call that you just want, you just literally wanna die. And it was nice to know that the refs was the same refs in that snow game. The tuck rule, it was the same refs, same crew. Really, it was the same crew? Justin: I mean, cause there were certain plays, like I understand the rain makes it very difficult, but. You know, there were plays where they didn't blow the ball dead, where they should've, like where that blown play, the trick play, where they were running the Wildcat in the reverse,
02 Justin: I mean, they showed it on TV, and I don't know, you were there, I mean, it looked like he was, he had 40 yards down the field, if he would've caught the ball. Now granted, he didn't. But it looked like he recovered it. Yeah. He was on it, on the ground with the ball underneath him. Jake: No, he was on the ground for a second. And then he was touched by a defender, and as soon as he touched by a defender... Justin: And then the ball... and then the ball... About 30 seconds later? They didn't blow the... they didn't... Oh no, it was bad, bad. They could have... Jake: Literally, he was down, the guy touched him, and then they went in for him to see if they could get it out, and then they got it out. Justin: Yeah, and then the ball kind of squirted, so it wasn't 30 seconds, it was 2 seconds. It seemed like 30 seconds. Fine, but the moral of the story is that that play should have and could have been blown dead, yet it wasn't, and that's not even reviewable, which is ludicrous, because what rule are you picking on there? Are you picking on the fact that you can't review something where the ball hasn't been blown dead or whatever? but you know they changed the rules like two years ago where whereas you could challenge if somebody fumbled and then They blew the whistle dead But then someone recovered it afterwards you can review that and then they can call it a fumble and say oh that guy Rude that guy recovered it right but in this case they couldn't review it and say oh the whistle should have been blown dead I don't get it. Like the rules kind of conflict with each other. I didn't really explain it that well, but the rules do conflict with each other and it doesn't make much sense. Jake: I totally agree. There's something in the, you know, this whole some plays can be reviewed and other plays can be not. If you only have so many challenges a game. then I'd make everything reviewable. Make the fucking coin toss reviewable. I don't care. Like they only- Justin: They should because a couple of years ago they fucked that up too. Jake: So it's not like if the coaches had unlimited, you know, unlimited challenges, then I understand why you would say, well some things are not because it would make it, just the game would go on forever. Right, right, right. Justin: But the coaches had- Every play they would review. Jake: I mean, in this case, the coaches only have so many plays that they can review. I just, it's just stunning that they say, well, this play is not reviewable on this, especially for game changers. I mean, that's a game changer. Justin: You know, if we continue to point up on the board for them, that was a free seven. Jake: So that was a huge free seven. So that kind of stuff was poor. So all in all, I give the game. edges. big old raspberry because it sucked from beginning to end. Shitty game. There's some, there's some, there's some high notes. You know what I'll say? Let's take away some, some high notes. There's some things to think about. Justin: Well, I was going to actually, before we do that, I was going to say I was, I was rather impressed with, um, with, uh, Jay Cutler. He's, he's got an arm boy. He can throw in positions and weird scenarios. He really reminds me of John L.A. Not just because he's playing for Denver, but he plays just like him. He has the arm just like him.
06 Justin: He can make throws off the back foot or on the run across his body that you shouldn't make, but he can make them. Very impressed with Jay Cutler in the rain. I've never really watched him play that, you know, a whole game like that and really paid attention to what was going on. I was very impressed with him and I was really impressed with the Denver offensive line. We got nowhere near them and they ran over us and they had, you know, I was really upset. I was angry because I felt as if they were just beating us up. And I don't like the fact that the Jets got, in my mind, beat up. Meaning they were more physical than us. They came into our house and beat us up. Meaning a smaller guy than Chris Jenkins was moving him around. I don't like that. I like to be the big guys on the block and the nasty guys who beat you up when you come into our house. And that just was not the case. I was very impressed with Denver's offense, including, you know, mostly Cutler in the O-line. Jake: Very impressed. Yeah, and I'll say there's a couple things we should as jet fans, we should be thankful for. One is, since it was Thanksgiving weekend, we should be thankful that the Patriots lost that weekend. So we actually didn't lose any ground within our division. We should, if we won, we would have been much better off in the overall AFC and in the division. but We didn't lose very much ground there. The other thing is. Justin: I still think we're in the driver's seat as far as that's concerned. Jake: But here's the other thing. We were not going to win 10 games in a row going into the playoffs. We were not. Justin: Yeah, you're better off losing a game or two. You're better off losing a game or two. Any of that. Yeah, you saw it last year with the Pats, right? They would have been better off losing a game in the regular season. I think everyone would agree. Jake: Titans this year, they came off that loss, and they just showed who they are. So all right, let's do our. Justin: Well, they played one of the worst teams ever. Well, that's true. Jake: Let's do our segments. Let's do play of the game. So this segment where I play a game, and you pick. It's Jake and Justin's play of the game. This week, do you want to take a defensive or offensive play of the game? Justin: I'll take offensive. Jake: All right, so I'll take defense. I mean, not a lot to say for this, for this, for the defense, but the one thing that I that I will say was in the third quarter or 10 minutes, 27 seconds to go. Actually, sorry, seven minutes and 13 seconds to go. Uh, color comes back and, and, and throws, throws a bomb thrown for number 88. I think it's chef for, um, and it was intercepted by, uh, Dwight Lowry, uh, which is a touch back and gave us the ball again. That was, that was a big play. Huge play. Justin: I mean, cause it came, it came right after a touchdown, uh, that, that Denver scored on book out.
01 Justin: taken back or called back on a holding play. So it was actually like a big like turning. I thought we were going to get right back into the game at that point because they put seven on the board, then you take it off and they're still in scoring position right there. And we take the ball from them. I thought it was a really big play in the game. So I could. Good job. That was the play. Jake: That was the defensive play of the game. And the Justin's offensive play of the game is? Justin: I think the offensive play was probably Thomas Jones. Long touchdown run. What do you mean, which one? His long one. He had to what do you have? Like a 60, 60 yard run. Jake: Yeah, I think it was a 68 off tackle run where he was untouched. And then he had to play where he rolled over the guy and kept going. Justin: They were both actually now that you mentioned it. They were both pretty phenomenal. I was thinking of the longer one, the 59-yard one, off the right tackle that he basically just caught a nice block and was completely untouched to the end zone, which you don't see from Thomas Jones ever. You never see him make a breakaway run. You always see that from Leon. Two touchdowns. See two touchdowns this game. He's playing phenomenal and with that in mind he was actually named the offensive player of the month of November for the AFC. Jake: And he's still waiting for your apology. Justin: And he's not going to get it. Jake: Oh, even, wait, so it's 138 yards for touchdown? He breaks away an ugly. Justin: You know, that other play that he made in the second quarter, the one I mentioned was in the first quarter, but in the second quarter, the one where he ran... Heads up play. Basically got tackled and kind of didn't get tackled. I know I texted you because you were at the game and I know they were reviewing that one. You know clearly a touchdown on replay. That reminded me a lot of the Jericho Kottree play from a year or two back. Against New England. Jake: Yeah two years ago. Justin: But that's my play. I guess. Yeah, no, both plays. One of the Thomas Jones touchdowns. Jake: I'm glad. He only touched down. It's a good time to talk about them. And now, since there's a loss in the new rules of the Fools and Knights, no Knights this week, only Fools for a loss at home. So I'm going to go first. I'm going to pick my Fool of the Day or of the game. You know, tough. I have one in my head that I really want to pick. Justin: So I hope you don't pick them. Jake: You know, I do switch it up sometimes. I give it to fans. Sometimes I give it to other players. Sometimes I give it to other coaches. Justin: Sometimes you just go illegal. Jake: There's no legal. When you write the rules, there's no legal. So, um, I... You know, I'm gonna give him a fool because and I'm gonna give it to two people but I'm gonna give it to Schottenheimer and Eric Mangini for the gameplay. There was just times when- You don't even give it to players. Well, I'm gonna give it to the coach because there was things that were done in the game and actually and I'm gonna give it to him but I'm gonna give him a little plus because
02 Jake: this is the first time Eric Mangini's ever admitted mistakes. In his press conference after, he talked about the mistakes and he talked about how he made some calls that on second thought he probably wouldn't have made or would go back and rethink and not do. I'll give him the fool because clearly doing trick plays in piss poor weather with rain the wet ball, you know, doing triple, double. reverse plays, not really brilliant, right? The chances of you fumbling the ball on those plays are high anyway. They've probably got a 50 or 60% fumble ratio anyway. So then when you throw on that it's, oh, by the way, it happens to be raining, I think that makes it worse. And there were some points where, again, we didn't go for the field goal when you could have, you know. There's just some things that I just thought weren't done very well. I give them the fools But again, I thought it was really impressive that he came back and said that he actually said I made mistakes in the game. And he listed them off, like in his press conference he said, here's the mistakes I made, which I thought, that's impressive. Go ahead, who's your fool? Justin: Yeah, it's always tough to do for a coach to admit that they made bad decisions. And usually, you know, we actually talk about this all the time. It's better to, you know... If when you make a bad decision, you know, admit to making the bad decision and then learn from it in the future. So that's that's actually I agree there. I have two fools that are both players, so I can I can give those out if you want. My main fool that I think is deserves the fool is Lavernius Coles completely completely. not even it was as if he wasn't playing completely non-existent dropped a pass or two that were right in his hands again he had two catches for two yards one of which was for four yards I guess the other one was for negative Two, I guess? If you had two catches and the long was for four. Are you trying to do math? Yeah, I hope so. It's bad, I know. But my fool is Lavernius Coles, because he's played so inconsistent. And I mean, he's clearly not the number one receiver, right? I mean... Well Jericho. That's the thing. And at this point, I mean, country who well, receiver wise, wide receiver wise, Jericho. country is the number one. Dustin Keller's stepping up big, you know, Leon catches quite a few passes in this offense, so and they do spread it around. But gosh, Laverne as you are awful this week. And then just to go over to the defensive side, a guy who's actually played well. Who's had to step into the starting lineup and play well? And has played well over the last you know month, but I felt really really dropped the ball
02 Justin: Not literally not literally figuratively was a berm. Yeah, I think you have probably his worst game It really bad game clack caught out of position a couple times That long touchdown That that was completed to I think it was Eddie Royal on the sideline. That was Abram Elam's fault He missed the tackle to to knock him out of bounds. He that did not have to be a touchdown Jake: So I'm gonna give out two fools Coles and a very good that was the game that was and let's put it behind us Because we're now talking about let's talk about other kingdoms Certainly things that happened in week 13, other games were played. But let's talk about the AFC East. Justin: We had a- Yeah, it was actually a good week for us to lose. Yeah, it was. Two of the teams lost, right? I mean, New England lost. They had a tough matchup with Pittsburgh and they got their butts kicked. pretty badly 33 to 10 and it kind of showed some more of the New England isn't this undefeated team and they can be beaten down and shown what a real good defense can do to Mack Castle. Turned him into a... Jake: a backup. I think basically. It was all good news for everything, right? So the dolphins barely beat St. Louis. I mean literally barely. Which is crazy. I don't understand that. How did they not go down there and just clean? Because they're not that good of a team. Pittsburgh destroyed the Patriots and and again the 49ers killing Buffalo, not killing Buffalo, but beating Buffalo 10-3. I mean Justin: they can't score a touchdown. That's pretty scary for Buffalo that you can't score a touchdown on. Jake: but there's that's pretty bad one bad piece of news Pittsburgh's two was a good team Justin: Yeah, they're very and they're in Well, they're also extremely extremely difficult to to you know Stop them from doing what they want right? They basically want to run the ball down your throat and they're going to do it Come hell or high water and and that's how they're gonna win. Well, they win games They would need an incredible defense a good running attack and it running game and the defense and they have a quarterback Who knows how to play? Jake: So I mean that I think the bad news coming out of the week was you know Obviously bills losing they're kind of out of the playoffs by by long shot Justin: Yeah, talk about a talk about a turnaround I mean after the first quarter of the season right the first four games for now You know they were for now and everyone's talking about the bills a great resurgence of the bills They're gonna go back to the playoffs finally after not being there for 10 years 10 years, right? You know, the music City Miracle was, I think, the last game that they played in the playoffs where they lost in the last seconds
00 Justin: in a very questionable play. People up in Buffalo still say that that was a forward pass. Whatever. Although, who the hell cares? They lost and they're not going to see the playoffs again for a while. Because guess what? Trent Edwards isn't as good as people thought he was. Their defense isn't as good as people thought it was. And, you know, Dick Jaron, their coach, is not as good of a coach as people thought he was. He's just a retread, guys. He's... he's coached before and he was unsuccessful. So, you know, I always, I always, you know, I give it to the Jets with their last couple of, of coaching selections. Retreads to me, don't work. You know, guys who've been unsuccessful in places where they've been given the opportunity to be successful. Now I'm not talking about like Lane Kiffin over in Oakland. He was not really given the proper opportunity to be successful. And I'm not really talking about guys like John Gruden or Tony Junji who are successful and then go to other teams and are successful again. I'm talking about a guy like Dick Jaron or a guy like in the Jets past Rich Kotite who are unsuccessful and then... You just hire them because, oh, I'm going to change the scene. No. They're unsuccessful for a reason. They've been given the opportunity. What I like about the Jets is they don't do that retread stuff. Their philosophy over the last five to 10 years with Herm and now with Mangini is to try some new blood, to say, you know what, those guys, why bother with the retreads? You know, they don't work. If Bill Cowar's available. Sure. But, you know, he wasn't at the time. You know, if Bill Parcells is available, sure. But again, wasn Jake: Yeah, they've been going with much more new blood, which, interesting. Justin: I always liked the idea of giving a younger guy a new blood. Jake: kind of a chance to make his work in Pittsburgh is worked in other places I will say there was one coach who Bill Belichick was certainly an example of people who was a retread, someone who went back into the system. It's clearly a crapshooter. Justin: Yeah, but he also had the pedigree, if you will. He was a younger guy still. He was a very young guy when he was coaching with Cleveland. And he had the pedigree of being successful, meaning he had a Super Bowl ring. He had the knowledge of working under Parcells. And it's not quite the same scenario as a Dick Jaron,
03 Justin: or the Bills' last coach, Greg Williams, if he ever gets a chance to coach again in the league. Those are the kinds of guys that I'm talking about. Like a rich co-tite is really a great example of, you know, a guy who stunk. Why give him another chance? He's been so bad. Jake: Yeah, and those people generally don't come back and generally don't play it, don't do anything again. No, I agree. It's, it's... Justin: Yeah, it's not like Mike Holmgren, you know, you know, Mike Holmgren's a pretty successful guy. Jake: Two things. One is... you I think you know the the the fans of the New York Jets right now are pretty much down on Herman Edwards Basically, he's softy softy softy, whatever Let's see and I'm still gonna say this I think Met and Genie's got one challenge not this season But next season his challenge is not to be the yo-yo team because Herman Edwards was the yo-yo team It was win a playoff playoffs crap playoffs crap playoffs crap Justin: Some of that is the nature of how the league works to know Jake: You're the in the battle is called to have been to the playoffs the last seven years in a row not if you're oh Justin: Well, I mean you do have Peyton Manning. Well, that's not fair Jake: Then if you if it all it takes is one great quarterback then go get yourself a great quarterback You know, that's not you. You know, there's a lot of stuff that goes into it I'm just saying traditionally this yo-yo team and when Herman was led them to 4 and 12, in comes Mangini, he goes 10 and 6, everybody loves him. The next year we're back to 4 and 12 and this year would probably be 10, 11, 12. 12 wins, you know, and so I think next year is is is. I mean granted will be a Super Bowl near Jets and so then you know he can take a year off But if on the far chance the 1% chance that we're not the Super Bowl winning Jets, you know That's his muster. He has to bring it back and next year make us a playoff contender again Because that's it's something that jet jet coaches have not been able to do and they call us the yo-yo team And you know, if that's really true, that sucks. One of the small point, a little update on the PSLs. There's a story out. Yeah, I saw something. Yeah, there was a story out the other day about how of the, I think it was like 2200 tickets that they were looking to sell, those auction tickets, I think they're calling the Coaches Club. the New York chapter only They stopped the auction after about 600 of them were sold, 660 or so, because basically the prices were just going so low that they couldn't— Justin: Yeah, the economy's so crappy right now. This is not the time to be auctioning off like million dollar tickets. Jake: But what are you going to do? The stadium's going to be open in a year and a half. You can't stop the stadium. You can't say the economy's going to be open. So can we get in really cheap? So there's there's gonna be some I mean The Raiders actually went for PSLs, they sold a bunch of PSLs and then they couldn't sell them anymore and they actually stopped the PSL program. It's not like the fans are going to not get it in the end, right?
00 Jake: The fans bend over and just get it. Either they get it from Bubba or they get it from… Well, they get it from all over the place. We're going to get it through. If we don't get it through PSLs, we're going to get the ticket prices or whatever the next thing is. Thank you very much. But the point is, I think there's a chance that the jets will go back. And my suggestion to the New York Jets would be— And they are listening, by the way. Yeah, I know. They're listening. I would suggest, take the PSO prices, reevaluate them, spread them across the entire section, entire stadium. him. Kind of like the Giants do, but put them at starting prices of like the best seats in the house at around 10 grand all the way down to a grand. Spread it very evenly so it doesn't seem like, oh well, this guy sits right in front of me and he's paying 3000 and I'm paying 1000. That doesn't make sense. Make it even. You'll get you'll get a good chunk of money People will buy in at $1,000 or $2,000 or $3,000, you know what I'm saying? Like if they spread it around, it will be better. Right now the problem is it's got these kind of huge gaps, you know, between front seat and then $20,000 seats and zero. And that gap is too big, right? Justin: You know what I thought you were going to say? I read another article about the Jets PSLs and how they're going to work it. Um. I read about how now you could transfer tickets to your cousin or something. Jake: No, you can't. Justin: Well, you can put other people's names on your ticket. They've stopped that, no. They've stopped that? Really? How'd you get yours? Jake: That's now versus four years ago. They've actually stopped it now. Justin: And there's a... So in the future, let me continue my thought. In the future, the people with the PSLs will be able to move their tickets, basically within, obviously, their families or whatever. They can. Jake: That's the right you have as a PSL owner. Justin: Right, but if you don't, then you're screwed. You can't hold on to your tickets at all. Goodbye, gone. forever like your tickets are no with a psl you can sell them that's the whole point of the psl but without the psl you can't you can't do anything with them meaning once you don't want these tickets anymore they are completely gone so what are you saying they're gonna do no i i i guess i didn't realize that that Nowadays meaning today I could not give my tickets to my cousin. Jake: You could not. They've actually changed the policies and I mean, again, officially they're making it very hard. Back in the day, you literally just wrote in and said, here's the new owners, they sent you a new thing, that's it. But now they've made transferring very difficult because they realize that the value of them is so big that they're being sold in the third market. You're not supposed to sell the rights. You're supposed to just so if you wanted them I should be able to give them to you Justin: somebody else or selling them on the black market and that's that's the PSL so what the PSL is the PSL Sends you the right to do that
02 Jake: Legally sell it I guess the point is that people The NFL has realized by watching these you know ticket exchange and stub hub and all that That an eBay really eBay is to blame is that there is this huge black market and the price of that What it was I think even 40 years ago, it was like my ticket was 60 bucks or maybe 55 a ticket now it's 70 or 75 You know what they've realized is tickets are really valuable like to go to these games And so they're gonna they want they don't want that value to go somewhere else. They want to keep that value Justin: So they're gonna make you I mean I get it. I get it from Both sides. I mean, it's just. So that people people don't like the idea of having to pay for things that they already have for. Right. Jake: True enough. So let's talk about the upcoming week. Justin: This game, please. No, no, no, no, no, no. I'm not talking about us. Let's talk about let's make our picks. Jake: Let's make our all our picks. We've got many, many games. Let's make our this is this is the segment we like to call. What is it Justin Justin? Justin: throne picks thrown picks that's right thrown picks Jake: So let's make a throne picks will make the Jets pick last because that is the most interesting pick and we'll by the way Justin: There's a game going on right now. Yes, and Jake: recording this Justin: What kind of crappy game is this Thursday night game God Oakland vs. India San Diego Chargers 10 over They need to flex out these Thursday games. Well, this is an awful game. Jake: It would be difficult to move them that. Did we talk about this last week, where I was saying that, you know, the massacre on Thanksgiving, I guess we didn't, because Thanksgiving hadn't happened yet. Justin: What an awful, what an awful lineup. Series of games. Jake: God. They gotta flex those. Justin: Can we just get rid of Detroit? Jake: No, Detroit, the Detroit cowboy thing should just be done away with. They should just pick. Justin: The Cowboys are fine because they're going to always be entertaining and good to watch. Detroit is always going to suck. Jake: But they matched them up with the Seahawks. I mean, it was just pathetic. Justin: Yeah, but that's something that in the beginning of the year, they thought, wow, this could be a good matchup. I don't blame them for that. The Detroit matchup you know is going to suck. You go into the season knowing Detroit is not going to be a good team, so whoever you put them up against is going to beat the shit out of them. It always happens. Every year on Thanksgiving 1230, Detroit gets their butt kicked. It always happens. I don't mind the Dallas thing. I quite like the Thursday the night game I don't even care. That's like a bonus. So that game doesn't even matter. It doesn't even have to be a great game But the Detroit thing has got to stop and there's I think we have a week coming up Jake: Let's see. I'll tell you what week it is a week 16 two weeks from now Uh, we've got a Thursday night a Saturday night Sunday Sunday night and a Monday So that's four of the six of the seven days of the week. Yeah. All right. Let's talk.
01 Jake: Let's let's talk some football. Justin: Let's talk about the what game do you want to talk about? You want to talk about the AFC East matchup, Miami vs Buffalo. Jake: Let's talk about New England at Seattle. Justin: Or we can talk about New England at Seattle. Jake: What New England at Seattle. So, you know, this is a tough race now for the wildcard spot and for any I mean, any basically. A lot of teams in AFC, unlike the NFC where it's pretty much locked in, the AFC is all over the place. Baltimore's in there, New England's in there, Miami's in there, the Jets are in there, clearly the Tennessee Titans are... Justin: I wouldn't necessarily say the NFC's locked in. As the playoffs started today, the 8-4 Cowboys would not be here. Jake: No, but the Giants are locked in. Justin: Oh, meaning the division. Yeah, the divisions are kind of... Jake: So, in this way, this is a big game for New England. They're coming off a huge loss. I don't see them losing this because Seattle is just so horrible. Now they've got, they've had 10 days, right? They got the extra because they played on Thursday and they got just beat down like, like, like. Justin: I don't even think it'll matter for them. Jake: Yeah, I don't see New England losing this game. Could it happen? Could the Seahawks and the rain and just be one of those things and they just come alive and it could happen? I don't think that's the way it's gonna go down. I think they're gonna go out. I think they've got the time to prepare I think Bill Belichick doesn't lose many games back-to-back I mean granted I would love for them to lose, but I don't think that's gonna happen. I think this is a You know pretty much it's like a 31 12 type of game. That would be the Patriots winning. Justin: I happen to agree with you on this one. I think traditionally Seattle has been an extremely difficult place to go play over the years. But this year they're only one in five at home. Two in ten overall, which is pretty piss poor. I know they've been playing kind of. You know, they played with that Hasselbeck for a while, who's their leader, but even since he's come back, I think he's like the lowest rated quarterback in the league. So not a very good season for Seattle and not a very good swan song for Mike Holmgren, who's had a hell of a career, and this is his last year. I agree with you. New England's going to win this game. I think it'll be a little closer than you think. um Just because I just have this gut feeling that the weather's gonna be really wonky up there. So I'm gonna go with this final score of 20... 10. Jake: 20 to 10. And next game up would be the Miami Dolphins heading off to the Buffalo Bills. but not in Buffalo at the Rogers Center in Justin: This is this is interesting. This is this like little this is this is crazy like controversy because we had Jim Kelly the four-time Super Bowl losing
03 Jake: Jim Kelly Saying coming up and saying that uh, it was unfair and they should be playing in Buffalo because the weather was what you know One of their advantages and whatever And we have Miami who has been winning games like by their teeth, like they've been winning it. Again, I've said this a couple of times. I've said it in some forums. People haven't really loved it. But I really think that the Miami Dolphins, the 2008 Miami Dolphins remind me very much of the 2006 New York Jets. They don't have a ton of talent. They have a lot of pieces to get put together. But they're playing with like just kind of scraps, but they're using tricks and they're using and they're winning by just by, you know, by the, you know, three points and by a field goal and, and they're winning and they'll, they're a better team for it. But I don't think that they're a big built up team that can consistently win. And I actually think this is the week in a division game with Buffalo basically being out of it. I think this is the week that. They don't they don't just pull it off, right? They don't just win 12 to 9 over see over Saint Louis Rams. I mean, you know, I think this is the week that someone says enough. You guys are what you are. And I think they lose. I think Miami loses this game. I'm going to call it 2123 and then Buffalo wins as much as it hurts. My little soul say that. Justin: Yeah, I want to agree with you, but I think Buffalo is reeling so bad right now. Jake: JP Lassman. Justin: Yeah, and that's always a problem. Jake: Yeah, but I mean, does Trent Edwards really that much better? I mean... Justin: I just don't see Buffalo winning this game. JP is really not a very good quarterback. He's actually quite bad. He's one of the worst in the league. I've been saying this for a while ever since they drafted in the first round. What a mistake anyway, I Don't know I see Miami winning this game Another close one. I almost want to take your score and just reverse it. So why don't you do that? Jake: 2321 Justin: Yeah, just reverse it. Jake: And then the New York Jets team... Justin: We're gonna kick some ass this week. Jake: Team heads to San Francisco, which is basically... Justin: We are going to kick their fucking ass this week. Jake: This is not a game, this is not a division game, but here's... I have a lot of issues with this game. We have not played well on the West Coast this year. We have not played well... uh... at four o'clock games this year in fact we've lost all three of them uh... it's not a four o'clock game it's a four o'clock game for our time it's a three o'clock game for their one o'clock game for their time it is a four o'clock game uh... so don't turn on your tv at one o'clock expecting to see this game Justin: it's a four o'clock game unless you live on the west side yes all two of you Jake: Anyway, you know, again, this...
03 Jake: You just you want to believe I think the Jets can put it together. I think they've got the talent I think last week was the letdown you don't win 10 in a row eventually the team just can't keep it up Right can't keep up the momentum gets caught off sides. He's caught in the rain or whatever it is So yes, I think the Jets win. I'm predicting the win. I think they're gonna win 24 17 I think they'll do it through just traditional good old-fashioned football, which is where we have been winning and give up on the you know the crazy stuff I think in a good weather game in you know, you know, whatever nice San Francisco I think we can win this game I think Jones is playing very well our defense better stand up there there there I mean it's Shawn King is there who what Shawn what? Sean King, I mean seriously? Justin: I think it's Sean Hill. Or something, Hill? Oh, whatever. Sean King, I think, is a quarterback for the Bucks. Exactly. Jake: And Sam Schutz was playing pretty well. They've, I think, won the last two games. Justin: Yeah, this is where I think they're going to win this game. Did you make your prediction? Jake: 24-17, New York Jets. Justin: Yeah, I think the Jets are going to win this game for one very specific reason. Losing teams like San Francisco, they don't win three in a row. And winning teams like the Jets, they don't lose two in a row, especially to a team like San Francisco. So that's really my main reason, is that losing teams don't go on winning streaks, and winning teams don't go on losing streaks. I believe the Jets are a winning team, and I believe San Francisco's a losing team. So I think that for that very reason and the fact that we're far superior as far as talent I think our coaching staff is far superior to theirs I think we're just a better team than them I don't think that their home field poses any real threat to us Their fans are certainly not going to the Raiders this is slightly different than that so I'm gonna say the Jets win this one fairly easily um you know remember San Francisco did only put up 10 points last week in their victory um so I'll have them put up another 10 this week but this time they're losing because they're giving up 36 Jake: 36 to 10 Yeah, that's a big-ass whoopin'. If that happens, I'll be very happy. It's gonna happen. I just really feel this is, you know, the only, the two things that I would think that I'm a little concerned about, the running game, they do have Frank Core, he has the ability to really run, and that they do have Nick Clements, which is a really good cornerback. I think we'll just, we can stop the run, like unlike last week, and I think that, you know, Farf can keep the run. Justin: Well, there's also some big, you know, some big, big news around this week, right? We're getting David Harris back. So our starting middle linebacker who's missed the last bunch of games, three or four games, he'll be back.
05 Justin: That'll help to shore up some of the gaps in the middle of the field. that have been left open by him being out with a groin injury. So that will certainly help with some of those running issues with Frank Orr. I think David Harris being on the field is certainly an upgrade from anybody else that we had out there. Jake: So do you want to have the really most breaking news you've ever had on the Jet Kingdom podcast? Justin: How breaking is it? Jake: Sean Ellis was picked up at Hanover in New Jersey by police, allegedly had marijuana on him and was arrested. That was posted a couple hours ago. That's not good. Justin: Does that mean that he'll be playing on Sunday or not? I don't know. Do they have any more? Jake: There's no response. They police said Ellis was found to be in possession of marijuana during this stop and was arrested. Justin: After they say like was it a lot of marijuana? Like was he? Like what are we talking about? Jake: After he brought the police station with the way he said he was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. and he was also issued. motor vehicle summons for driving without insurance, speeding, failure to keep right, what is he doing without insurance? Failure to produce a valid registration card. Justin: What is with these guys? They make tons of money. Why don't they just do what they're Jake: supposed to do? And then I got ha, and then I got ha ha. Justin: I guess that's why. What is your deal dude? You make millions of dollars. why not just have insurance on your car? Like, you have to have that. Jake: Yeah, just stupid. Stupid from so many different levels. Justin: He's been playing so well this year, like, you know, kind of like a silent assassin over there. Yeah. And he's always like, I remember we picked him and John Abraham back to back in the first round. And I always remember thinking like... Why did we pick two defensive ends back to back? And why did we pick Sean Ellis? Because John Abraham is so much better. And then I was totally wrong, obviously. I think Sean Ellis has proved to be the more consistent contributor over the course of his career. And the more well-rounded player, meaning he can get sacks, but he can also stop the run. He can play defense. John Abraham was more of a pass rusher. not really a defender per se, more of just I'm gonna either get the quarterback or not and that's what I'm doing. So that's good breaking news. Jake: You're welcome. I would like to sing three rounds of Because I Got High. Someone wrote up a... I was going to study my play book until I got high. I was going to get up and find the book. I was going to sack cutler. but then I got high. My defense sucks and I know why. Why man? Cause I got high, cause I got high. Justin: Maybe he was high during the game last week. Another one is I was going to sack. He gave up 130 yards to Peyton Hillis. Jake: I was going to sack Cutler. but before I got high, I could have rushed and I could have sacked him, but I got high.
00 Jake: I'm taking every other playoff and I know why, because I... That is funny. On the post in the forums, it's very funny. As the shout out to a little bit special on the Jet Nation forums, which is pretty good. And that will be this and the end of this podcast. We'll end it by saying, let's hope for a good win this week. Everybody stay safe. No one get caught with marijuana paraphernalia or guns. Didn't talk about plexico. Don't really careico. And we will see you next week. Until then, as always, of course. Go Jats!
