11 Jake: The Jet Kingdom Podcast Episode 13 for Tuesday, November 13, 2007 Bye, weak blue. Well, welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. As always, I am Jake on this side of the Digital Isle and on the other side... This is Justin. I'm Ain Man Justin. How you doing, Justin? I'm in a fine mood. A fine mood? Very good. Well, it is our thirteenth episode, Lucky number thirteenth, and we just happen to be recording this on the... on the 13th? The 13th day. If it were only the 13th hour we could set up some sort of weird thing. No job would not be too happy about that. No, no, probably not. So it is our 13th episode. Hopefully a lucky one for us and more than that hopefully a lucky one for the New York Jets. So let's get right into it. We are on a bye week so we didn't play we don't have to go back we don't have to think that's why we're in a fine mood that's right we don't i i have some perspective i must say the week off gave me a little bit of perspective watching the dolphins lose yet another game and being now the only the only team not to win a game gave me some perspective that game man i was just looking at the score Justin: I couldn't watch the game because I don't have the ticket like you do. Sucka? Yeah, well I can't have a satellite dish so I'm shut out. Sucka? Exactly. Step up your game in a couple years when that, when that, when the cable companies can actually bid for that. Cablevision, you better do that. Anyway, I was only watching the score on the internet and it was just hysterical. Jake: like the score 3-2. The game wasn't bad. The score is just... It wasn't a bad game. I mean it was two bad teams playing and obviously JP lost and I hope... well actually we don't play them again. I guess we already lost but JP lost. He already beat us. Yeah that's true. Well he beat us half the game. It doesn't matter. He's not very good and Cleo Lemon not very good either. I don't know why they're not playing John Beck. It's just ridiculous. Anywho, we'll see when we get to play them. We get to play them in a couple weeks. Maybe they just don't want John back to experience losing. Yeah, there was that whole argument that Parcells made on the, I think it was Monday night countdown. He was saying that there's two schools of thought on putting in a rookie quarterback. One is you put them in when, you know, to get them ready, right? And to get them in the game and get them to know the offense and blah, blah, blah. Why? And the other one was that if you put him in too early and he loses and gets beat down
01 Jake: and really the press gets on him and the team gets on him and basically people start writing the paper while he's at bust, well then that's not a good thing and he could destroy his confidence and he'll never play the same. So you know I see it both ways. The one thing they both that Parcells was saying actually Mike Dicco is saying as well is that put them in when it gives your team the best chance to win, which I kind of agree with but in some ways and again I think that this same thing with Kellen Clemens weeks ago, I still think that probably Chad gives this team the best. chance to win every week. I don't think Kellen Clemens is the one who's gonna rock the world and make us beat the Patriots. In fact, going into the Patriots, I think that Chad could actually beat the Patriots, whereas Kellen Clemens will probably get creamed. But it's not about this year anymore. We're clearly not about this year. We're about next year, and next year, Chad will be playing for the Kansas City Chiefs, and we will have Kellen Clemens or someone we pick up in the draft. So let's get to know this guy. in another segment called get to know Kellen Anyway So that was my announcer voice future future segment. That's a future segment But let's get to the you know, let's get to what we're gonna do this week So we have a couple segments we're gonna do this week We're gonna pick a first half fool and a first half night just so you're not surprised We're also gonna give some first half graves or quarterback head coach offensive coordinator defensive coordinator running back wide receiver Why receiver core and defense as a whole and then we're gonna talk about the Jess versus dealers make some thrown picks And then if there's some other Kingdom stuff will to go over that and then that'll be the game So or that'll be the podcast so just lining it up Why don't we start off with looking back at the first half and say let's pick a first half fool in the first half night Would you like to go first you want me to go first? I'll go first in picking a first half fool. Justin: Go for it. Since I love to call this guy a fool, I will pick the worst defensive back in the entire league, number 36, big hit Barrett. Good, good, David Barrett. He's my first half fool. During the first... six or so games when Barrett was playing more. He hasn't played as often recently, but during those first bunch of games, it was the strategy was fine. Number 36 and throw the ball to that guy that he is attempting to cover because he couldn't cover anyone deep, short, anything. It was amazing. So David Barrett. You're officially the first half fool Jake: But up to the jet kingdom first half fool of the 2007 season I will pick from my fool since we're going fools first I will pick
01 Jake: Well, I think you have to look at the season first and you have to say where are we well? We're near jets or one in eight We suck. And when you look at the team and you say that 1-8 New York Jets suck, I'm sorry, but all the blame, as I like to dole it out, the blame has to bubble up. And it bubbles up. And it bubbles up beyond the quarterback or the cornerback. And it bubbles up beyond the offensive line and the defensive line. It bubbles up beyond the offensive coordinator and the defensive coordinator. and keep It bubbles up, bubbles up, and it bubbles up to Mr. Skinny, Eric Mangini. And I have to say, you know, as much as everything has gone wrong, and even though you couldn't say even that it's a bunch of injuries other than Justin Miller, but Leon Washington has well done what Justin Miller did last year. In fact, he's done one more kick return then, and it's only halfway through the season. It's got to be Eric Mangini. I mean... It's his fault whatever is happening to this team and this team was a good team like this team was a good team going in This season we've had some we've had some Is that your phone that is my phone, but I'm gonna turn it off turn it off Tell him to go away. Tell him we're doing a podcast. I'm gonna turn it off and you know what I'll even I'll even turn on the volume. So no one else will call ever again or yeah So, it has to bubble up. It has to bubble up to... What? Wow, again? Yeah, I'm pausing. Another show? Hold on, I'm pausing again. So, sorry for the interruption. So, it has to bubble up to the top. The head coach. It has to bubble up to Eric Mangini. You know, he had the choices to make during the off-season. He had the choices to make about the... offensive line. He had the choice to make about Pete Kendall. He had those choices to make about the quarterback situation, wide receivers. Everything is in his view. The other thing that we as fans, I think, lose sight of is that while we get to see a game, three hours of a team, and we get to see some practice and stuff if we go during the Uh... during the summer, we don't see as much as he does. So for everything that we're not seeing, he's seeing 100 times more. So that makes his decisions, if he makes a bad decision, even worse. Because while we can say, put in Kellen, put in whatever, we're only seeing a tiny, tiny percentage of what he's seeing. So the decisions he's making I think are just are bad across the board and then that and then some play calling. There has been some really horrible play calling and it's really in that fourth and one kind of go forward situation or you know the killer instinct I mean he just hasn't had it. It's almost like he's scared to lose but when you're a 1-8 team 1-7, 1-6, 1-5, 1-4 don't be scared to lose you're already a loser.
00 Jake: Just go, like show the team that you have some faith in them. And so for my fool, for this first half of 2007, I'm going to say that Eric Mangini, you know, as much, as good as he was last year, he's this bad this year. So if we gave him props last year, you're the man genius. This you guys say you're the man dunce because he's not getting it done and you know some of the decisions the offseason are now kicking him in the butt you know letting Pete Kendall go was a mistake and and and relying on a bunch of rookies to do that and protect your quarterback was a mistake and maybe not putting in Kellen a little sooner was a mistake or so anyway I'm giving him the fool so let's go on to better nicer things who you have as your night for the first half of the season. Justin: It's hard to say since it's really hard to pick a knight for A1 and A8 team. No one's really played good at all. No one's played well at all. This is the Jett's, we don't do grammar here. No one's really played very well. uh I kind of want to say Leon Washington, but that's only because You know those he's scored three kick returns the average is you know 33 yards return He gets a single field position, but we don't do anything with it. We don't take advantage. We don't win because of it so It's really hard to pick a special teamer as your knight of the half, but I guess I'll Jake: of to say Leon Washington. I think that's a good pick. Leon Washington has certainly showed that I'm maybe not in the running game and the running game looks like it's a mistake. I say second only to Eric Mangini. If the team was like 4-4 at this point, I'd say Mangini wouldn't get it. Thomas Jones would have gotten my my He's going to run for a thousand yards, you know. Yeah. That's not impressive anymore. If he does it for ten seasons in a row, it's impressive. If he comes into our team and does it, it's not impressive. I would say, Lee and Washington, that's a great one because he's shown that he has speed, has agility, has vision. And it may be, because he's doing so well in the kick returns, it's interesting because he's not doing so well in the actual game. It does look like the fault is kind of zeroing in on that offensive line. So that's interesting. I think he is definitely a good candidate for night of the half season, night of the half. Yes. I'm gonna say I'm looking over the roster and I'm looking over I think there's two people I would split up my knighthood Justin: Can I say who I would have gone like my other person that I that I kind of had in mind that I wanted to give it Jake: To well, but maybe that's my guess to but you're gonna give us to well, who cares? All right. Go on. It's my podcast go on
00 Jake: I would give you Alright, I'll pick one. I'll just go with one. I think the real... I'm gonna say Dorell Reavis. And I know... Yeah, well here's why. Yes, he's had some tough points, but he's also pure ass rookie. David Harris would be the second guy, but he hasn't played as much, and Vilma's been in there most of the games. Dorell Reavis has been put out on an island. He has been... You know, in a defense that's struggling against the run, he has been said, alright, you're the one, you're the guy, you're a total rookie, go line up against some of the best receivers in the NFL. Go have a good time. And by the way, on the other side, again, not a very good, strong person. So this, this is going to be a lot of stuff thrown your way because they're going to test you all season. I think he's done pretty good for, again, for someone who's just been put out on an island. If not for the amount of games he's played, David Harris. But, Darryl Reeves has been there since the beginning. He's been nine games. I think that's pretty impressive. That'd be my night. Justin: Those were your two guys? Really? Jake: Yeah, I think the two rookies kind of stepped up. Who else? Who else in this team? Justin: Well, I was going to say Jericho Kottry, who's had a pretty decent season. for not having a quarterback that can really throw the ball down the field to you know average 75 yards a game or so yeah, and you know but one touchdown you're gonna give you're gonna give them all that's just both Has six and because the Jets don't throw a lot of touchdowns. Yeah, that's true Jake: But I still, I wouldn't give it, I wouldn't, eh, I mean, he's done well. Well okay, so let's go on. So if that's our Knights, that's our Fools, let's do some, let's hand out some grades. Probably, we're gonna go traditional grades, A plus through F minus if you want. Justin: Uh, I don't think there'll be any minuses, F minuses, but I don't know. Jake: I don't want an 18, if there were only 9, I mean. So the whole Dorphans team gets an F minus. So let's talk about Alright, let's go top down. Let's go head coach. Just A through F, what do you think? What do you give them? And then give a little bit of flavor to why you did it. Okay, I'm going to give them a D. Not an F. A D. Justin: I don't really have anything more to say than the teams 1 and 8 and I don't want to give him a complete F. I think he has made some right decisions and has been and has had... We're not the most talented team. You play with the... Jake: with the cards that you dealt. Whoa, you play with the players that you were dealt if you didn't go into the draft and free agency last year. That was his cards last year. But he got to pick his cards this year. So for my case, he gets an F because he wasn't dealt these cards. He got to pick them. He went into the draft.
01 Jake: He had money. He had cap room. He could have done a whole bunch of other stuff. He decided to do that. Him and Mike. the man genie or man and bomb or whatever they're calling him tan and bomb, tan genie, those two pick those players they set up this team it's not the cards he was dealt I will not fail him, I will not fail him I'm gonna give him a couple more years. Alright, I give him an F plus well I'm talking this year, not last year, last year he would have gotten like a Justin: You sound like you want to fire him. No no no no no no Jake: No. What you have to look at is what. Is this guy going to be in two, three years? The problem with now is in the current NFL is we don't trust head coaches for 10 years. I think Eric Mangini will be a great head coach. And I think that this is the same thing I said about Herm, although I wasn't on a podcast at the time. Ah! I think Herman's going to be a great head coach. The problem is we seem to get the head coaches when they're learning. Where the Browns only pick up Belichick for three years and he sucks and then he goes off and does a bunch of other stuff and then wins four Super Bowls or three. Sorry, I'm going ahead of myself. Well, I guess he's won some with Bill. I think that's the problem is we're picking up the rookies and we expect the rookies to be as good as someone who's been in the system in three, four, five years, maybe on his second job. If we keep him for five years, I think we'll have a great team, but he's still a young guy and it's not an easy job and it takes a lot out of you. I think he's got a lot to learn. And so I hope that we stays and I hope that the fanbase... We can stick by him and see and see not give him F's on their podcast Why not give him an F he deserves an F for this season right now. That's an F It's an F plus because he's got a one win against a winless team though We've only beat a winless team house. We didn't lose. We've only beat up on the cripple kid in the wheelchair when he fell over. Like that's what we've done. It's ridiculous. So I don't know. He gets an F+. Alright, go down. Offensive coordinator. Brian Schottie. Yikes. You gotta move your Justin: phone away from wherever it is. Why? It's making that sound. Is it? You know that sound? Yeah, okay, a little weird shot in Heimer. Let's see I can't give any of these coaches anything higher than a D. I'm gonna give Schottenheimer a D- D- Yeah, I mean at times they've looked okay and at times they just look at it. It's hard to tell like if it's him or if it's how the plays are being. Jake: uh... you know played out by the players at it's hard to say here's a hint you give me a d he gets a full on f in my book i give him a d minus d minus he gets an f he's another f this team is is is not good on offense
03 Jake: He is not producing, it's not creative, it's not original, it doesn't have a killer instinct. He has weapons and for some reason they just took whatever book they had last year that had some creativity to it and they threw out the window or they said hey this year we'll just do something as plain vanilla as we possibly can. No I, he gets an F. He's actually... Well, we'll see. Well, let's go right to defensive coordinator because I'm gonna start off and I'm gonna give him an F2 Defense of course here the whole coaching staff has enough. I cut at one at eight What are you gonna give them? You're gonna give him nice pass in the back and a and a Justin: Just I'm giving them. Well, you know defensive coordinator. He's getting enough for me Okay, I'm giving most of them, you know, DD minus F. I think he's he's the one that his head rolls. Sudden. Sudden should head. His head rolls. Oh yeah, he's gone. Yeah. Well. He's gone at the end of the season. They are terrible at stopping the run for the last year. Jake: And it's the same problem we had last year. That's the thing. Like, learn from your mistakes. If you're bad at one thing, one year, learn from it. Pick up the guys you need to make it and then be better at the next year. If you're still bad at the same place that you were. the year before something's wrong. Justin: It sucks when the people in charge don't learn from their mistakes. Jake: No, it totally does. So let's go down quarterback. I guess you could give two grades. It's kind of hard to grade Kellan because he only played for five quarters. Or no, I guess he's played for two games. Justin: Two full games. I mean, I could grade him on the two games that he's played. I don't really want to. I'd rather just give... I'd rather just... You want me to give Kalan a greater? Yeah, give him a greater. Both. I'll give Chad an F. I'll give Chad an F. See, now you're being unfair. That's unfair. He's the one who played the game. Aside from, you know, hmm, let's see. We'll dole out F's to the guy standing on the sidelines. But how about the guy who actually makes mistakes? And the guy who's physically doing the losing? Jake: We'll give him a pass. He's doing the losing, but he's also... F. Justin: What's he doing? Is he coming back and we're winning? Jake: No. Tell me what he's doing. He's making huge mistakes. He's making... It's like we're a couple now. He's making huge mistakes when he used to not make mistakes, and that's the deal. Chad used to be the guy that he was consistent, solid through the game, and if we were down by a touchdown or field goal at the end of the game, he'd be able to get us in position to either tie it or to win it, and that's what his strength was. He was solid. But this year, he's kind of turned that on its ass. He's not. He's not he's okay in the game, but then when we get in those situations where he used to win games He's not winning them, but I mean you gotta look at his numbers I know you know you're maybe not in the numbers, but 67.4% you know Completion rate yeah if you don't throw the ball down the field it doesn't matter though. He's playing he's playing
04 Jake: He's playing a good game He has an A7.5 rating, he's thrown nine touchdowns, seven interceptions, not great, you know, but still, if you look at his numbers, you can't give him an F. I mean, come on, you're giving the head coach a frickin' D. You gotta give this guy, you gotta give him, I think you give him like a B-, B-, no, it's a B-. Oh my God. Justin: Yeah, it's a B-. Oh. Yeah, I want to see I'm stopping right now. This is stupid. We shouldn't even continue Jake: Yes, all right. What are you giving? Callan Clemens? Go on move on move on with your wife giving Callan Clemens a C Justin: C C just average average I if it was like on a scale because he's a rookie I'd give him a B but it's not so I'm just gonna give him a C. Average, in the first game he had us in position to tie up that game or take the lead, I can't remember, but his receivers let him down, both McCarrens and Cole's drop balls that they both should have caught. And in this previous game that he played he got us down the field to tie the game at the end. Clutch plays, made throws Chad can't make. both physically and well basically physically he made throws chads which I can't make he also made throws chad wouldn't make yeah the flip of the coin there I think in time Jake: Clemens will get better at that but for now just average I'll give him a C yeah I'm gonna give him a C plus I'm gonna give him a C plus C plus only because I think there's an upside to him I see I'd be like well we should go into the draft and get someone who's a you know a B He's a C plus right now again. I'm looking forward to him We could talk about the second half of the year in a bit But I'm really looking forward to seeing him and this is why I'm gonna still go to these games Even though you know we're losing this team ever other than I'm not ever yet But I want to see him improve I want to see him I want to see him win some games I want to see him you know be an NFL quarterback, and I think he has He has the talent, I think he has the ability, I think he has some of the weapons, it's not like he's throwing to nobody, throwing some good wide receivers. Yeah, missing calls last week was big. That was big, yeah, maybe that was the thing that would have won the game, but it doesn't matter, I give him a C plus because it's an upside. Alright, let's go. So, wide receivers. I received three, yeah. Well, these guys, I'm actually... Justin: These guys are probably going to get the highest grade of any position that we're going to give out grades for. So I'm going to give these guys a B. A B? Okay. A B. Um... They both... Well, I say them both, but I should say all of them. That's probably why I'm giving them a B. Uh... I just mentioned McCarren's... I mean, that ball would have hit him in the face had he not dropped it. It was right at him. A huge clutch play drop.
00 Justin: That's why they can't get higher than it be. Same same situation with Coles. And then last week, country had a huge drop and that fumble was unfortunate. But, you know, these things lose to lead to losing games. But on the flip side, they've had, you know, decent years for, you know, halfway through with a quarterback that doesn't throw the ball down the field. And decent numbers, as we said, country very good possession receiver, 75 yards a game, Cole's has the touchdowns. Jake: So B. I'll stick with the B category. I will give them a B plus. I think that really because their ability to catch the ball and do something with it. after they catch the ball, you know, the yak, the yards after catch. Their yak is good and I really think that they, it is tough to judge them because a wide receiver is only as good as the quarterback throwing in the ball, so clearly some of the numbers would have been skewed higher if Chad were throwing the ball. I'm going to be down the field. It would be a B without Kachri. Kachri definitely pushes up the grade because not only has he been clutch and clutch games and just picking things off and he just fights. That guy just fights for the ball and then he fights to get the yard and he fights to get the half yard and just an amazing guy. I mean I... I'm excited to see him play every week Cole's has done very well Smith has done okay Baker Baker's make clutch clutch catches. He hasn't been he's a tight end Yeah, but he's been he's in the receiving core. He's been he's been very good Justin: We're not we're not gonna judge the tight ends don't and don't forget Joe Kovaloski. Yeah Kovaloski Huge Jake: Big time. All right. What about special special teams? Oh, let's go running backs. What do you want to talk about the running backs? Let's stay with offense running backs Justin: Running backs as a whole are only as good as you know, the offensive line blocking for them I shouldn't say that I should say that with an asterisk But in general if the offensive line stinks and you can ask edger and james last year in Arizona came off of a huge season with the Colts goes to Arizona can't even move the ball. You know, you can talk to Thomas Jones this year. I'm gonna give the running backs a C-minus. Maybe if they had a better offensive line they would shoot themselves up into the B-range because they've done okay. But, you know... It's inherent on the running back and the running game to put these games away that were winning by 17, winning by 14, and they haven't done it. Jake: So we'll see. Totally. I'm going to drop them a grade because I was just looking at their stats right here and I'm like, okay yards, yards per game, pathetic, average pathetic, long, pathetic.
02 Jake: And then I look at Thomas Jones. Here's the number that I'm looking at that's killing me. Touchdown what's zero zero you don't get well. We only have two rushing touchdowns all year You don't get by Chad you don't get you don't get a you don't get a You don't get a C-4 zero touchdowns half with this season with nine games forget that you get a d-plus D-plus Tommy Tommy Joe you get a d-plus Leon, Leon hasn't been anything better, anything special. I don't know what happened to him. Again, I don't know, it's play calling, whatever, but this guy last year won games for us. Single-handedly won games. That Miami game, he single-handedly took the ball and he made the play to win the game. This year, he's looking like average and just, he's not being that thunder and lightning that we need. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down. Yeah. Yeah. Justin: This guy does have some touchdowns. He has a touchdown. Plus three. Plus three? Yes. He does return the ball on special teams. That is the same guy. Jake: Yeah, but I'm not talking, we can talk about special teams as a group. We're not gonna talk about it. Justin: It's not fair, yeah, but it's not fair to say Leon Washington isn't being that special guy. He's yours. Jake: touchdown I'm saying I'm talking about the rushing running back yes he's a running back talking about Leon Washington specifically I'm talking specifically in the running game he is not good man you are frustrated you need to win a game you need to just go I know just go out have some beers hit on a girl win a game all right so let's talk about what else you want to talk about special teams Justin: Those games have been really, really decent. Really decent. Is that allowed? Should I even be able to say that? Jake: Return games have been really good, obviously. Probably leading the league. I don't know if they are, but they're... Probably. Washington's probably leading the league in average and touchdowns. Justin: Return game has been good, but other aspects of special teams, well, they got caught off guard Last week that was terrible. Yeah, two weeks ago against Washington They've had the ball returned against them. Yeah, it's not good. Punts haven't been very good. You just missed some kicks That's not good. No. Punts have been okay. I'm sure. No, he's shanked a couple. Oh, that's that's that's okay Everyone shanks a couple But, you know, I'm looking at it now. 35 punts, 13 inside to 20. That's not bad. And only two touchbacks. That's pretty decent. Average is 42.7. So I'd say he's about average. But overall, special teams. Wow. B- only because they have three touchdown returns. I mean, that has to be worth something. Jake: Totally, totally. I was thinking C+, but then with the three touchdown, you can't keep them at a C+.
00 Jake: That's a B-. And again, they're weighted down by Mike and all the other people. You know, Leon keeps them out of a C-minus. I think Leon takes them from a C-minus to a B-minus. Justin: Yeah, full grade for what he does. Jake: For what he does. But otherwise, you know, not very impressive. Again, last year I was really impressed with how Brad Smith would go down there. And I remember that Miami Dolphin game, he went down and he tackled Wes Walker, who now is like a star. And he tackled Wes Walker three times, like, the minute he caught the ball. And I thought that was very impressive. And this year, it's just they're letting some guys go. And yeah, they're making those touchdowns. The touchdowns will be more, I guess, if we won. But we're not winning. So anywho, but yeah, that's definitely, I'll give them a B-minus as well. All right, what other areas do you want on? Defense is- We could just say defense is an F. I mean- Defense F, F, F, F. F minus F minus birdie heard us talk about Sutton. You know what you know what I'm not no sacks no turnovers This team stinks on defense. I'm not even gonna give an I'm not gonna give an F F minus. No incomplete Have we incomplete every event showed up? Yeah, it's like let's just give them an eye Justin: and I you you get it whenever I incomplete alright are our banter is going on for Jake: at least 31 minutes now so let's get into some let's get talking about the next part of the season I want to talk about two things I want to talk about what's coming up in the schedule and what you look in for two because very little to do that and then I wanna I wanna talk about after that let's talk about the Steelers game So, let's first talk about the schedule. And the upcoming schedule. The upcoming schedule. And I'm like, what are you looking forward to? Why, as a fan, are you going to continue to watch? Why? Because I have to. Justin: I feel obligated. Well, a couple things. There are a couple games I'm actually looking forward to, not this Pittsburgh one. Really? I just want to kind of get this one out of the way. Damn good. I mean, I hate Pittsburgh because of what they did to us a couple years back. but They're freaking in another class. I don't even want to see that game. But then I'm really excited about a couple of things. Dallas on Thanksgiving. That's pretty cool. Never got I can't remember watching the Jax on Thanksgiving. Uh, then we play Miami, which is awesome. You'll be there in Miami. My Only Dolphins, My Only Dolphins, yeah. Always fun. Then we have Cleveland, which I'm really actually looking forward to, because number one, we can play spoiler there, because Cleveland's gonna be in a race. And two, because of that crappy call last year, Cleveland, where we should have beaten them. And we play New England, which is always fun. So I mean, I'm looking down the schedule, we have some fun things, I mean it's always fun to just, you know, play New England. It's fun, I mean we get our ass kicked fine, but it's New England game.
00 Justin: And then I'm looking the last week of the season,. The return of. So there are actually some cool things to look forward to even though, you know, 1 and 8 could. could realistically turn into, you know, 2 and 14 or 3 and 13 easily. Yeah, that's true. Here's what I'm looking for. Jake: And I know all you Jet fans out there think I'm crazy and I was talking to a giant fan today and I said, here's what I want to have happen. I want to have us win two of the four big games. And I consider those four big games, as of now, Pittsburgh, Dallas, New England. Casey oh no, sorry, Tennessee Pittsburgh Dallas New England, Tennessee. I want to see us win two of those games Wow two of the four I know I know we can't beat anybody. We couldn't beat a grandma. We couldn't beat a fly We couldn't you know which two do you see us winning? Well, here's the thing. I'm a jet fan I look at the schedule and I say we could win all of them. The chance of winning all of them is very, very slim. But I feel like we could win all of them. We could win against- If we're on track. Listen, no, no, no. Let's break it down. Pittsburgh, we could win that game because look what Cleveland did to them last week. We could win that game. We probably will not but we could Dallas maybe we catch him off surprise then we get to Tony Justin: Roman. Oh, yeah, sure in Dallas short week Thursday in Dallas Jake: Thanksgiving sure that's happened Miami we can beat Miami Cleveland in our house. I think we could be Cleveland Justin: I don't see why they pissed off from last year. Okay, I see that Jake: And New England, it could be the the the Chicago Dolphins. This is the one I want. This is the game I want to win. The Chicago Dolphins game of last year, right? The undefeated Dolphins. I mean, undefeated. Forget that. Undefeated bears against the Dolphins who I think had won one or two games and and they went and they won it. So again, it can happen. Tennessee, I think we can be. Justin: I want New England to be 13 and 0. And I want to beat them right there. Jake: So wait a second, you would say you'd rather lose to Miami. Yeah. And win against the New England. Justin: I will lose every single game if... We can beat New England. If we can beat New England and they're 13-0. That's like, I want both of those conditions to be true. I want them to be 13-0 and I want to beat them. Jake: Here's what I don't want to happen. I do not want to be... at the end of this season as the fuck ups of the AFC East. I would get a better draft pick at the end of the... No, but you know my belief, you know my belief on draft picks, I don't believe that picking in the first spot helps you any more than picking in the third or fourth or fifth. The third or... No, third doesn't help you. Third doesn't help you to fourth, fourth doesn't... If you pick in the top 10, you can pick someone good. Again, I think that kind of money, that kind of pressure on a guy... They generally, the statistics show they don't work out as often.
01 Jake: I don't believe in that. So I'm not going for, I don't play for draft picks. You play to make momentum into this. Play to win the game. So what I'd like to see is, the last part of this season, I'd like to see us win some games. No, I'm serious. Oh really? You want to see us win some games? Win some games, but here's the thing. I want the story coming out of the season not to be those hapless fuck-up jets. But those jets that had a tough first half that made a switch at the quarterback and that showed that their rookie... quarterback and some changes on the defense and whatever made a stand in the end of the year, beat some teams otherwise they shouldn't have beat and look like they could have a decent season next year Right? So when... Kind of like Green Bay. Yeah, kind of like Green Bay. And an awful first half last year. Yep. They want a bunch of games to finish this year. It happens to a lot of teams. They end up like Tennessee last year. Tennessee is actually the one I would say. Tennessee started off horribly and then towards the end of the year they started winning and everybody's like, everybody's on their jock. I don't want everybody to be on their jock at the end of the year. I kind of want people to say, listen, they look like they could progress, they have a couple missing pieces, they got those with the draft, they could get there. And maybe that's just like me wanting to be popular or whatever, but I just don't want us to be the suck. part of the NFL next year. I want us to be the team that you know kind of had some some some problems some issues had a really tough schedule and got you know played for who it was. So that's what I want. Let's get on the Steelers. Let's talk about Steelers. Can we beat this team? Yeah I don't think so. Yeah probably pretty pretty hard. Really the hardest. It's gonna be tough. They're really good. Well, we make every running back who's a shit running back look like the greatest running back to play the game So now we have a top 10 top 5 running back Justin: Well running game and they have a running game not even a running back. They were running games Who's the second running back for for that? I hate to have a bullet. He runs they now don't get people You didn't see the face. He just gave me They have a running game. It's not just They they have a running game they spread the ball around and Jake: And and they can throw the ball. So it's not you know, I mean, this is a team that's that's tough team very hard to beat honestly We can be some second leading rushing team in the whole week. We can beat this team Here's how I would beat this team first and foremost We have to stop Willie Parker. Justin: Oh, okay. Jake: Yeah. That means putting 400 in the box, getting people out of the stands, putting them in the box, going out to the parking lot, getting some turkey and some stuff, and putting that in the box. Okay. And if we could put all that in the box, including the dick, put the dick in the box. Dick of the box, put it in.
00 Jake: We would be able to stop Willie Parker. Okey dokey. And then... We'll leave the real revus out in the island against their receivers and yeah, we're in for some trouble But it doesn't matter. I'm a jet fan. I predict we win this game. We're gonna win this game. I Could see they're gonna have to we're gonna have to keep up with them But with Kellen Clemens with throw some balls, maybe get another kickoff return. We do some turnover stuff I see we could get close. We'll keep it close 2120 Jets win. Oh, oh You okay, you need a moment do you want to smoke? No, I'll Justin: I'll keep the 21 for the Jets, but I'll give Sperg 35. I Jake: Love at the beginning of the season that you said I'm not gonna pick the Jets to I'm not gonna pick the Jets to lose Now I'm looking at it realistically. Now you're... Justin: Let's pick the other games. Jake: Alright, let's go. What other games we got out there? Justin: Oh, you got Miami going on the road to play Philly. I think this one's pretty straightforward. Yeah, Philly's played really badly and really well. I think they're gonna beat Miami at home, I don't think. They're going to have any trouble there. Miami sucks. I think they'll even score some points, which Philly's having some trouble doing. I think it'll be 27-13. Jake: Yeah, I'm going to say I have picked Miami to win for three weeks in a row now. And I've lost for three weeks in a row. So I will go. I'll do the thing that I know will happen. I'll now pick them the Loo's, and they're going to beat them. So I'm going to pick them the two Loo's. I'm going to say they Loo's. So. 30 to 17. Taking a beating. Justin: And the only other game in the East is the big Sunday Nighter. Jake: The only other game is the game. The game. That I don't care about. Justin: The big Sunday Nighter. It's the... What is it? Football Night in America? Is that what it's called? No, no, no, no. Blah blah blah, in Buffalo. Dun dun dun. No one circles the wagons. And everyone come town to crush Buffalo's dreams in Buffalo. Sorry, Buffalo. You're not slowing this team down. 38. Ugh. I don't even think they're going to score 10. 6. Jake: 38 sticks they're gonna murder them. I'm gonna say JP lost been starting It's tried Edwards finishing 41 13 13 that's that's the game. I'm calling I'm calling it now 41 13 Alrighty then, well it's been a long podcast. I hope you guys have all stayed with us. Do you have any final thoughts, any moments, any something you want to leave the fans out there, something they can look forward to? Justin: There's nothing to look forward to this year with the Jets. Actually, yeah, I shouldn't say that the schedule does look interesting There's some games coming up that at least are interesting whether they'll be good games or not whether we win or not I don't know, but they will be interesting and I really do hope we can catch New England at 13 to know I want them at 13 to know And I want them to be 13 and 1 after that. Jake: Alrighty, well that's a nice thought, nice moment. I will say, as always, this is Jake and Justin on the other side, and we are leaving you this week. Go Jets!
