17 Jake: This is the Jet Kingdom Podcast, episode number two, August 27, 2007. And now, half and half. Justin: All right, well, we just had some technical difficulties and I think we lost about half our podcast. So this will either be a very short... Pre-season. Yeah. You know what it is? It is pre-season. Good call. Good call. It's pre-season and we're just working out the king. Yeah. Working out the king. Yeah, so we did discuss the Giants game. We discussed the joy. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait What if this is what we're gonna post we should introduce ourselves. This is Justin. Oh, and I'm Jake Yeah, we we're sorry We lost the whole not the whole the first half of our podcast where I'll tell you it was we'll try to make it It was so good There's no recreating that genius. No, there isn't. What you can do is go back to the first episode, listen to that again, and then cut in here about halfway through. Yeah, yeah, do that. Yeah, we talked a lot about the, we talked about the Jets and we talked about Pennington, we talked about preseason, and the wrap-up is, my quick four-second wrap-up is, we're sorry Pete's gone, but Justin thinks we can pick someone up. Thanks for watching! Justin didn't see the game because he was down in New Orleans at a bachelor party and had a good time. I saw the game which I didn't because it looked so horrible except for Deval Rivas and David Harris who looked great and Leanne Washington in open space. Otherwise the offensive line was a civ and the game was a mismatch until Kellen came in and now there's a semi-quarterback controversy of which we're involved with. But I guess that's the end of it. I don't even see that as a quarterback controversy. It's a little bit. The point is… No, it's not. A controversy is when people start talking about stuff. People are talking about it. Well, I'm not talking about it. Yes, you are. No, I'm not. You're just talking about it right now. Stop. So we'll go on to the other things. We just talked about the... Cam Cameron and the trick plays I guess I was just gonna talk you were saying that it's you know first time They're having an offensive mind to coach and I was just about to say and I'm glad this didn't get lost or hasn't get lost yet Hopefully crossing fingers that I'm getting the sinking feeling and I dolphin fans if you're listening You're gonna be happy and jet fans of you're listening. You're not gonna be happy. I'm getting the sinking feeling that the That the dolphins might be able to do exactly what the jest did last year that there we can we just can we can we have? Full disclosure here and say that you're married to a dolphin fan. Oh, yes. Okay. I am might be drinking your wife's You know collator whatever she's whatever she's cooking for you. You're eating it. So not true
01 Justin: No, first of all, she's not even she's not even watching. I mean, she barely watches preseason because it's not on She doesn't really care about it. She gets upset when she does watch it But yes, my wife is a dolphin fan. But that's not it. I'm a jet fan. I don't care. I just have this feeling. It's just this feeling that the dolphins are going to do what we did last year, which is that they're going to take a bad team. They're going to take a new coach. They're going to take an old hurt quarterback who's coming back off injury. And they're going to mix things up. They're going to use trickery. And they're going to win games that way. And they're going to do much better. now I I haven't put up my predictions for the season yet, which I'll do in the first week of September. But, man, I'm just getting the sinking feeling. And I guess that the other part of that feeling is that the Jets are – I don't know. I don't feel like they're going to do as well as I thought they were going to do a couple weeks ago. And I actually think I've taken a game off of what I thought they were going to do in their wins. But we'll talk about that later. here. So let's talk about the big news in the AFC East and other kingdoms, or the biggest news other than what we just talked about, which is Asante Samuel is back in camp, or I guess not camp, but he camps over for the Patriots. But he's back and so he... Can you explain that for me? Does that mean he's signed or does that mean he's just there? Like... Is he there and just hanging? Is he there and like getting you know training? Is he pumping iron? Is he weighing himself? Is he running? Is he just walking around? What's he doing? I think he's doing all the things and I think for the Jet fans it just means there's a guy there who's you know somewhat of a shut down corner and he's gonna play against us on September 9th. So I think that's. That's what it is. You know, there's a hope that he'd hold out for at least the first week, but he's not helping out. He's back. I don't know if that means he's actually signed a contract or not, but as we go to press or as we go to podcast, I don't have that full information. Anyway, so that's the news from the Patriots. We didn't talk much about the Bills because I don't think we have much news on the Bills. Yeah, a couple of things happened with the Bills. I was reading up on their last preseason game that they're They're defense that looks horrible. They gave up about 395 yards overall. And in the first half was all their starters, and they gave up 218. Wow. So that's just awful. They lost Terrence McGee, who's their starting corner. and a big spark plug for them on special teams to concussion. And their coach said that he'll definitely be missing the last game of the preseason, that's for sure. And we'll see about, you know, what happens from there that, you know, that could hurt them with a young kind of. poorest defense already losing a starting corner and you know they kind of pride themselves in having that good special teams and they they actually win games with their special team and he's a big part of it so that could that could affect their game. That's good good good intake or good update you missed some football but you're adding in with other new adding in
04 Justin: I I do have the internets. The series of tubes. Next week we go up against the Eagles which is the also ran of football games. It's the game where Andy Reed traditionally plays nobody. I think he puts the water boy out there to make it around. And the Jets actually I think last year we played Chad in the first quarter as I remember. I think this year, well, if Ironman's unique, I'd put him out there because it's clear he needs more practice. And I'd play the entire offensive line for the entire game as he almost did last week. Not really much to say about it because it's, again, it's a preseason. The matchup is weird. They're not going to be playing against the first-team offense. McNabb's going to be there on the sidelines. waving to the fans but it's not gonna be a big game so you know what I'd like to see I'd like to see Brad Smith play some quarterback. That would be nice we actually got to see Tazupo I can't pronounce his name. That's it? We're gonna, who needs him? What's the point in that guy? I think you know they just pick up just to challenge us Just to see if we can pronounce his name. That's it. That's it. Just for the jet podcast rest That's what I'm telling you So I think the only other thing I think it's hard, you know, we're talking we're a jet podcast or a jet website We talk about the AC East but it's hard to ignore What is going on in the NFL when you talk about Michael Vick? It's hard to ignore it It's hard to say, you know, we're gonna go talk about you know an hour or half hour or 20 minutes, whatever it's cut down to now, and say that the Michael Vick story is not something to talk about. So we are going to talk about it. I'm going to start by just saying he pleaded guilty today. He plead out and he basically said, among other things, he was there when the dogs were killed. He helped make those decisions. He never did it with his bare hands. He set up the gambling ring and he backed it with money but he didn't actually bet and that he was involved in the dog fighting since 2001 or something. I think the argument is going on about is he a bad person, is he a good person? The video of him today was interesting. He seemed like he was really going through the – not even more than just the motions, but saying, I'm really sorry. And I've really let down everybody and lifted off everybody from himself to the owners, to the NFL, to me. I mean I think he called me out. it's a Jake, I'm really sorry. But I honestly, and maybe I'm off on this, and I'm a real... I don't know. I've had dogs my entire life. I think it's horrible. I saw the HBO Insider or the HBO Real Sports Brian Gumble piece on it, which was brutal. Everybody should see that just because it gives you a good idea of what this really is about, the sport, quote-unquote, air-quoting. But the thing that I somewhere deep inside, if he…
06 Justin: I want him to take this and turn it into something positive. I want him to take this horrible thing he's done and this sport that is horrible and this industry and I want him to take it and add in his celebrity, his money, his power and turn it into something positive. I think in that way he can... have redemption and I think if he does that, if he spends the time, the money and puts the effort into making it something positive, meaning trying to stop it and coming out and helping people and donating money and donating time and obviously serving his time away from the NFL. I truly believe he is someone who should be given a second chance and he should be allowed to come back and play for the NFL again. Again, it will be up to what team wants him back and if he's going to make the starting salary or he's certainly not going to make $120 million bonuses or signing contracts. I do think there's a point about redemption if he goes and he serves his time and does his time for the NFL and does his time for the United States government and can come back and then really puts an effort into trying to turn this into a good thing, I mean, trying to turn it around, I wouldn't mind him coming back and playing. I'm not even a big Michael Vick fan. In fact, I wasn't. I never thought he was really that big of a deal. He wasn't big to me, but I think there's a point at which ... You should be able to – if you say I'm guilty, you go away and you come back. You should be able to come back and try to get your life right. And that's my little opinion piece. Do you want them on the jets? Two days ago, I would have said no, absolutely not. I think if it's in three years and we're looking at a roster – and again, this man has really turned his life around. I don't personally want him, but if it were to help the team and he had turned his wife around and had really turned this into a positive thing, I think I wouldn't mind him being on the Jets. How's that? Maybe I'm just too forgiving. I know. Yeah, I don't. I don't want him on the Jets at all. I think he's a nightmare. I did see his apology speech, the highlight of it. And he did seem actually very genuine. It wasn't, didn't come off as scripted by some guy somewhere who wrote it for him. It sounded genuine, it sounded like it came from the heart, and it sounded like he does want to redeem himself in some way or give himself over to the people, but what he did was... Just disgusting I mean I agree I agree it was it was it's really terrible and then there are guys that come out and say you Know are we gonna put him down does you know he attacked some other animal where we're gonna put that out of humans?
01 Justin: And this and that and it's like you know what? You have to be some sort of very very like deviant person to even be able to do that. Like you have to have something about you that enables you to even do that. Like I couldn't do that. I agree. I couldn't do that. But my hands wouldn't be able to do that. And I just wouldn't want somebody with that mentality. What happened? They're my team. Do you believe in redemption? Do you think that someone could take something in their life, serve their time, and then come back and be a good person? Sure, but that doesn't mean he has to come back and be an NFL player. He can be redeeming in other ways. He can donate his money to animal shelters and do things like that, but it's not everything. There's other things than playing football. I think he's already – to me, he's burned that bridge. I mean that's just me. And no matter what he does, he'll never be able to play for Atlanta again. And then what team wants to take on that nightmare? I mean it's just a nightmare. Again, I think it's a nightmare today because it's Monday and he just plead guilty and it's been three months of this. But in a year when he served 12 months in prison and in another year after that when he served... years suspension from the NFL and then six months after that where he's dedicated his time and his life to trying to get back and to do the right thing, I think we can look back and say, well, he has done the right things. He's done a horrible thing but he's turned it around. Anyway, I'm not – Well, you know what? I know that we want to get off this and make a big thing but one last thing. He doesn't pass the mom test. The mom test being if you ask your mom who's Michael Vick could she tell you and my mom and that's that's The mom test is very big when it comes to athletes, you know, that's a cracker test. Yeah The doctor test is sort of but if your mom's heard of them and it was for a bad thing I don't have an example but I will think of one by the next podcast of someone who's done something horrible and come around and taken their life and turned it into a positive and really like redeem themselves. I don't have it now. I can think of a lot that haven't. Let's put it that way. That's true and if he doesn't then he absolutely should never be allowed to step foot on another. football field ever again. But if he does and he makes it a best shot and he really tries, I think there's something in redemption, something about serving your time, something in the pleading guilty. I know he was going to get caught and that's why he played guilty and he wants to try to get back to the NFL before he's 90, but I think there's something to that. So anyway, we'll drop it at that. If you want to… chime in with your thoughts. Actually, I'll introduce this as a good point. I'll introduce our new phone line. We actually are going to take voicemails. So if you want to call us and tell us what you think about our show, good or bad, we don't promise to play any of them. But if there's something interesting, we'll try to play it on or maybe answer
02 Justin: the question. I don't know really how it's going to work yet, but we'll figure it out. The number is 206-984-3473. That's 206-984-3473. Anyway, I'll do that again and I'll put it up on the website so you can call in. I think that's about it for our podcast or our half podcast, our podcast. We don't have much else to say. I'll say this is up on Jet Kingdom. It's JetKingdom.com. J-E-T-K-I-N-T. It's been your spelling skill there. We do forums. We have news. Is it next week? Next week, maybe before the podcast, I'll publish. The picks are called the Throne Picks from the Throne. I will do the AFC East and I will pick the and maybe we can discuss that on part of the On the podcast and maybe Justin will throw up his picks as well for the AFC. Oh, yeah Well, definitely get the picks in there. I think we should do something. Excellent. Excellent. Hey pool something or other I figured out I also promise that all I will get the iTunes thing worked out So you'll be able to subscribe to it through iTunes. I'll get some links up there on the side I also was thinking about I could be able to put a section on the side of the website that just highlights the last Podcast out there. So I'll get that up as well. Got a lot of stuff to do Again, that's JetKingdom.com. That's Justin and it's Jake and – oh, Justin's getting a phone call. Justin Marchegiani Yeah, we should turn that off when the podcast is on. Yeah, what am I doing? Jamie Tworkowski I don't know. I don't know. Justin Marchegiani It's so unprofessional. Jamie Tworkowski It's, you know, we've lost half the podcast. Your most – Justin Marchegiani It's preseason. Jamie Tworkowski Your professional stuff was in the first half hour. Justin Marchegiani It's preseason and there's 35 seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter. Jamie Tworkowski That's true. That's true and our third string quarterback's in. But three outs is so well. All right, so that's it for us. I'm Jake and that's Justin and we are out and see you later. See you next week.
