16 Jake: This is a Jet Kingdom podcast for Thursday, March 13th, 2008. Big fat guys. Well, welcome to Jet Kingdom Podcast. It has been a long time, but I am still Jake on this side of the digital aisle, and still across the way is... Justin as always. Justin a little slow there on the uptake. Yeah, you know what? It's been a while. It has been a while, but while we have been sleeping. or not doing the podcast. The Jets have been very busy. They did not stop working. They didn't stop for a second. I mean let's just get right into it because that's what we're here to talk about on this podcast is certainly all the stuff that's been going on in the offseason moves. I guess we could start from, we could talk from, let's about people leaving first. Seeing who goes. First off the top, your favorite player gone. My favorite player's gone? Justin McCarrens is now no longer a part. In fact, he's back to being a Titan. Oh, good for him. So Justin McCarrens is gone. Old droppy McDropster gone. Justin: We dropped two former Titans. And we signed a former Titan. Jake: It's all over with the Titans. And then we also got rid of Andre Dyson, which... I must say, Andre Dyson is one of those players that I, when he came from the Seahawks, I was really, I thought he would be a great player and that first year he was pretty good. Justin: Wait, wait, wasn't Dyson also from the Titans? Jake: I think Dyson, no, Dyson came from, came from Seahawks. Oh, I don't think so. All right, well, we can, uh... Maybe I'm right. Who knows? Maybe you're not. Um, maybe I am. Maybe I'm not. Anyway, we'll clear that up. We'll clear that up in a few seconds. But he was just one of those players. I don't know, I thought that was a great move, and it didn't really... it hasn't really panned out, and he's gotten older and... Curly on the downside, so he's gone. Also got rid of offensive guard Adrian Clark. I don't think anybody's going to miss that. And right tackle Anthony Clement. The only people who are going to miss them are the opposing linebackers. Justin: You know, we were both right about Dyson. Dyson spent the first four years of his career in Tennessee. then he went to Seattle for one year and then to the Jets. So you were more right, but we were both kind of right. Okay, so if I'm more right, then I'm right, and you're wrong. Well, I'm not wrong. There's no wrong in this. Jake: There's no wrong in my podcast, too.
00 Jake: I'm feeling very right. I'm feeling you're very wrong. And then, you know, some big moves in terms of... I think the biggest loss. Yes, who was Jonathan Bilmer certainly certainly a big loss, you know, I think we talked about the end of the year clearly Jonathan Bilmer a great player smart player fast player great the 4-3 Maybe not as good and not fit for the 3-4 you add on top of that. He got hurt had season-ending surgery You know, it's maybe just not a fit. In fact, we didn't even get a 2008 pick. We got a 2009 conditional draft pick from the Saints. Justin: So that's... Well, actually, the way we should clear that up, because I understand that to actually work slightly differently. Mm-hmm. Um... We actually get a 2008 pick. I think you're right, we get a fourth round. We get a fourth round pick this year. And basically, if he meets expectations or exceeds expectations, whatever they may be, I don't know what they are, I guess they're determined based on playing time and maybe tackles or whatever, making the pro bowl, who knows. We can move up in the 2009 draft. up to the second round and we would basically give the Saints our fourth round pick. The fourth round. To compensate for the fourth round pick that they're giving us this year basically. So we would basically give them a fourth round pick next year, our fourth round, for their fourth round pick this year and in turn get that second round pick next year. I know it's very complex, it's very complicated. Basically if Vilmo plays better than they expect him to, we'll get a second round pick next Jake: year. Well, we trade our picks back. We trade back the fourth we got and we get up to a second. We basically trade, so this year we get a fourth, we use that fourth. Next year if he plays better, we trade our fourth to them to get their second. Justin: Correct. Jake: Okay. I get it now. It's like that when we did the nudes thing and went down, but we traded down to get the pick that went up. It's always weird. It's always weird. It always is weird. It's fun to kind of try to figure out, but it is certainly weird. You know, Jonathan Velmer is certainly one of my favorite jets in the last couple of years. Justin: Always had a lot of... Out of 51 jerseys around the stadium too. Yeah. Jake: It's very popular. That thing went on sale very quickly too on the Jets story. You could pick one up, I think, for $16. It's amazing. Talk about the devaluation. One moment, it's literally worth $60, $70. And 10 minutes later, it's worth $17, if that. Justin: I specifically remember when Vinny left. After we let Vinny go and his jersey went on sale the next day on the Jets store, I got NewYorkJets.com and it was like 16 bucks. And I was contemplating getting it, but I didn't. I'm sure a lot of people did the same and then he came back and then he came back.
03 Jake: When Chad got hurt as like a 42 year old, that jersey would have been awesome to have that jersey. I actually did buy the jersey, but they messed up the order. Oh, that sucks. And so I never got it. But then I was like, oh, I'm so happy because why do I need it? And it turned out I should have gotten it. Oh, yeah. I know. It was one of those ups and downs of life. I still, though, only have, do I have a film? No, I only have Curtis Kerbet. So I have two retired. And I have, of course, Chad Pennington. So I'm still within the only jets, no trades. Although we'll see about Chad. So those are the kind of big players traded away and cut. Justin: We should also mention that Eric Coleman, who lost his starting job last year and was replaced kind of after game one. He was kind of a big surprise coming out of his rookie year back when her was the coach. And he's moved on. He's now with the Falcons. He was a free agent, and then we let him go. Jake: Good luck to him. Justin: Yeah, lost his job, never regained. And, you know, oh well. Never came back. I thought he was good, though, to be honest. Jake: He was okay. I don't think he ever... He never stood out. And certainly when, you know... Justin: It's hard for a free safety. Jake: When we were being beaten left and right by Brady and Moss, it's hard to... Hard to look around and go, oh, well, he's great. Again, I think that's just one of the things. He turned a free agent. He just wasn't good enough to re-sign. But we did re-sign two players who, I guess, were good enough to re-sign. Stacey Tut, fullback Stacey Tut, which is interesting, considering what we did about 10 days later. And Siana Puwa. Justin: You know, they must have liked him middle to the end of the year. They started after, it was kind of after their bye week. I think it was the start of the Steve Gini. After Man Gini kind of took over more on the defensive side, they started rotating linemen. It was like incredible, every play and out, in out, in out. I remember sitting there at the game, remember, and we're like, they're subbing half their team every down. down. And that's when this guy got to play. And that is actually when they started playing a lot better. So maybe he fits into that. Jake: Yeah, I think he does. And he certainly, again, we'll talk about the pickups. I'll go right into it. They signed defensive tackle, Sianapua. He's definitely the backup because then they went out and traded for Chris Jenkins from the Panthers. Who is they got our third and fifth round picks. this year and we have big old Chris Jenkins who is a massive, massive guy. I mean this is not a big fat guy in the middle. Justin: I want a big fat guy in the middle and this is what we got. Jake: Yeah, not only do we get a big fat guy, we got a big fat guy who I think they're now it's even in his contract that he has to stay, not stay thin but make sure he doesn't
00 Jake: turn into the biggest. Justin: fat guy. It's okay. You know, he's really he's really very good. He he was phenomenal as a younger guy. I think he's 28 now. But back five, six years ago, he was probably one of the best if not for, you know, Warren sapper. And there's probably a couple others. I'd say he's in that he was in the top five defensive tackles in the whole league. And then he got hurt. back-to-back years I think and he got this like injury he's oh he's an injury guy whatever but he's played 16 games the last two seasons he's been very productive Carolina is a decent defense I think yeah I think he'll fit what we need He fits a need. We really needed a big fat guy and we went out and got a really good big fat guy. Jake: I mean just comparing him to Dwayne Robertson who's still with the Jets even though there's lots of trade rumors going on. I mean we went from a 6'1 in Dwayne to 6'4". So that's 3 inches, that's huge. And go from a 3.17 in Dwayne up to a 3.35. Chris Jenkins. Justin: And you know, you know, Dwayne was 317 maybe a little bit bigger, but you know Jenkins about 350. Jake: So, I think... Big boy. And those are bigger numbers. So even if you just, you know, skill wise, he is a bigger fatter guy. He will take the double team and he'll hold it for a bit. So I think that's... Justin: As good as Harris was last year? you know, blowing things up in the backfield and making tackles. Can you imagine if there was like, you know, a big fat guy in front of him to take up space? Jake: That's right. And he could get by the big fat guy and go for the quarterback. Well, those other guys can't get past the big fat guy and block. Justin: David Harris and David Harris can just kill. Jake: Yeah, I mean, again, I don't know the player didn't really watch him, but it seems like in terms of just prototypical. Big fat guy. The BFG. That's what we need and we got what we got. So that's a great, that seems like a good trade, you know, third and fifth for a formal number one pick. That's good. And then I think the, now we start off the big free agency signings and the jets just went all out. They literally opened up the wallet and they said, okay. Okay, if you are I wouldn't even say the best but if you're like between 28 and 31 years old and have proven that you can play the game come on in they went and signed Alan Fenneka from the Steelers Great player Alan Fenneka Justin: 7 time pro bowler 10 seasons in the league with a team that is always one of the best running teams in the league. Yeah, this is a good time. Jake: And really, the two people that are celebrating the most between Deborah Koshaw first and and Mangle, because I think Thomas Jones is also has a big smile on his face.
01 Jake: He is until he's no longer playing for the Jets, which probably will happen somewhere in the next couple months. But yeah, he's certainly going to... Interestingly, we went out and paid this guy millions and millions of dollars. I think something like 20 million guaranteed. I don't have the actual numbers in front of me, but here we go. Pay $20 million for a guy to show up a spot that we wouldn't pay a guy $2 million or a million dollars more to keep. I know. It's insane. and The irony of that is kind of like we could have kept the guy who maybe wasn't a pro-baller but was good enough, you know Justin: hindsight being 2020 they would have kept him. Oh, yeah, but But it's admirable that they learned. Yes Thanks, right a lot of the times you just don't learn you keep making the same mistake over and over and you'll say oh Okay lesson learned. Well, they learned their lesson They didn't have shit for left tackle or left guard. They didn't have any sort of run game last year and it was because the offensive line was not effective. Well, they went out and signed one of the best left guards in the game. And will totally make those two first round picks on either side of him. better. I agree. They certainly can't make them worse. And then adding to that. Hey, I mean, come on, Mangold is coming along. DeBrickenshaw is the one that I'm a little disappointed in. Jake: And I think there's a point to where if you get a good left guard, what it does is if you know that that left guard is going to do their job, it makes DeBrickenshaw's job simpler and what it looks like is that's what he needs. He needs the simple job. Fennica will do the complex job and make DeBricashia's job much more simpler. And as a third year guy, maybe that's what he needs. He just needs it. As opposed to people running by him, now he can know, okay, I know Fennica's got it. I just focus on what I've got to do. And it definitely will make him better. He was much better. Um... When Kendall was in there, this will make him better. And also just have the experience there. It'll make the running game better. It'll certainly make the quarterback situation better. It's all in all, it's a huge upgrade. It's a lot of money. He's now the best paid left guard in the league in the history of the NFL. To me that that's more state of the way free agency works now and and the cap I mean the cap goes up every year So in general you're gonna keep paying more and more for players I mean because the caps going up so next year there'll be another guy who's the biggest played and then three years from now There'll be a quarterback re-signed for three trillion dollars, you know, it's just gonna happen Justin: So right now is the big story, but before before we continue on and I think there's you know, definitely a couple other guys that that warrant, you know, some full discussion, but uh, you know, look at what we did we shored up The middle and the guts of the team. Yeah, we shored up
01 Justin: The big fat guy on the line on one side And the real good, I don't want to call him a big fat guy, but basically one of the best guys in the league on the other side of the line. Now what does that say? About what the Jets believe in now? They obviously believe that that's kind of the core and the guts of what's going on out there on the field. And if you can control that line... you can win the game. Jake: Yeah, and there's no one I think would argue with any of that. I mean, Curly, we've learned that when we had a better offensive line, we were better. When we had a worse offensive line, we ran the ball better with a good offensive line and crappy runners than we did with a crappy offensive line and good runners. Yep. You know, the defense was... OK both years. They got better in the end of the season both years. I think that's a real concern. I want to see this defense come out and dominate from the first day, not have to wait until Thanksgiving. Clearly, the quarterbacks couldn't do their job. It doesn't matter who you have back there. We said that all season. So this was great. You add on to it. They did some other things. They got fullback Tony Richardson. who I know you loved. Justin: Yep, I love that. I love that because we run the kind of offense that utilizes the fullback. So the fullback needs to inherently be better in this offense than in other offenses. That's number one. Number two, Richardson knows this offense. He played with the Chiefs which run a very similar, when he was there, a very similar style of offense. And he knows the style he's played in it forever. So that's a great thing. And he's proven. He leads the way. And he's for great runners, whether it was Priest Holmes or whether it was Lyre Johnson. He's the one... leading the way for these guys and finding the holes and blocking those linebackers and You know He was a pro bowler and I think that that anytime that you can add a pro bowler who still has some juice in them Who knows the system that you're running you're only gonna get better. Yeah, it seems like a good one Jake: although last year we signed was it I Can't remember that guy's name Barrett or it was as big hitting Big hitting whoever's name was, let's see if I can find him. Jacob Bender? Justin: Yeah, but this is a proven, this is a 10, 11 year guy who's been a pro bowler who really knows, we didn't sign a guy of Tony Richardson's caliber. Jake: Yeah, all right. Well, I'll take your word for it. I don't know. I feel like I can't remember the guy's name. I'll find it. Maybe I won't. But it was just, it was, again, it was one of these great, big, full back guys. You know Thomas Jones must be looking his lips. Hopefully he will be the player we wanted from last year if not We're not gonna we are we're not gonna we're not gonna talk about the draft yet But you know, there's a lot of interesting things and certainly what we've done in the free agency Helps and this seems to be a thing with man genie
01 Jake: They kind of take away all the big needs in the free agency and then leave you know leave the draft kind of you don't know where they're gonna go i think that gives you a lot of power in the draft specially you know if you have middle picks because if team don't know you need something then you have more power to say hey i don't need that i'll pick another player you know i'm not desperate at running back Justin: it could also have the flexibility and the and the freedom to pick the best player right Jake: We're not desperate at quarterback. We're not desperate on the line. We're not desperate for running backs. We're not desperate for wide receivers. I mean, we're not desperate for safeties. We're not desperate for backs. We're not desperate for linebackers. You look around, it's like, we're not desperate for a kicker. We're not desperate for a punter. It's like, what? This is a team that has. Thanks for watching! good players. They're not the best maybe and there's some certainly some weaker spots that think that could be shored up but at least it's not like there's this huge gaping hole which last year there was and we shored it up before the you know we shored it up with Thomas Jones we'll see if that kind of works itself out yet but you know it was kind of I like that theory. I like that you don't just leave one big gaping hole that everybody knows that's what you're going to go get. Because again, the draft is a tough place to pick a guy who's going to make a difference on day one. I mean, the McFadden's, not McFadden's from last year. Adrian Peterson. The Peterson's of the world come around once every 10 years, not once every year. Let's see who else we pick up. We got offensive lineman Damian Woody and linebacker Calvin Pace. Justin: Yeah, a little odd. You know, I get the moves. You know, I guess Woody's gonna come in and I guess try to replace Clement and right tackle. Although I'm not sure Woody. Is a starter we'll see yeah We'll definitely have you know I wouldn't even be surprised to check the right tackle. It's point the draft At linebacker this guy pace he was I think he was a pretty high pick by Arizona He's kind of a flop. He's one of these like Brian Thomas types who is a linebacker lineman And when they were playing the 4-3 for the first bunch of years, he was in the league, he didn't do very well. Playing in that system as a lineman, down lineman as a defensive end. But when they moved to the 3-4 style, I guess last year he flourished as one of those tweeners, one of those Bryant-Thomas type of guys. And it's clear that those are the kind of guys that- That are valuable in this kind of defense when you look at the Pats and when you look at you know We're playing this similar style obviously with man genie Those flexible guys those guys who can play down on the ground You know remind me of like Willie McInnes who always played for the Pats and could play
00 Justin: Blitzing linebacker or he could drop back in coverage or whatever. It didn't matter. He could do it all so I'm not trying to say Calvin Pace is Willie McInnes or that he can do it all I guess that they're just they see that Jake: In him they see that potential in him and brew both first round picks to I mean first round Damien Lourdes picked first round 1999 by the Patriots interesting and Calvin Pace was picked by Cardinals 18th pick First round 2003 so you know there's a lot of first round picks up on that line and in the defense now I'm I too am hoping that we're on the other side of that trade We are always the guy we're always the team that kind of gives up the player and then he becomes like some a monster on another Team because he wasn't performing well on our team like Farrier comes to mind. Oh, yeah huge like like here's a linebacker Justin: Parcells picks him so you know he's gonna be a good line and And there he goes off to Pittsburgh, and he's like one of the best linebackers, so I think Jake: Hopefully if we do this enough. We'll pick up. We'll pick up some guys Justin: We'll pick up some guys that uh you know maybe maybe they plan on with this guy pace. Yeah He kind of reminds me. I know that this isn't Really a great comparison. The guy Justin Tuck on the Giants who played so well in the playoffs and in the Super Bowl Who was a defensive end who never lined up a defensive end. Same with that guy Kiwanuka on the Giants. A defensive end kind of guy who lines up in the middle of the field somewhere and then runs up the middle. and you know, sacks the quarterback. I could see that kind of stuff happening this year where we line up with three guys down and the linebackers are just kind of coming from any which way. Whether it be Thomas or Pace or anybody really, just bursting up the middle kind of. That's kind of what I'm hoping, but. Jake: Well, there's certainly a lot. It seems like they did a lot very quickly. They paid a lot of money for these guys. It was, I think, a total of $80 million in guarantees. But it looks like they want to be competitive. They want to be competitive now. It does leave a question to who's going to be the quarterback, because that's an open thing right now. I don't even think that should be a question. Really? Who do you think it should be? Justin: Helen Clemens. Really? Yeah, it shouldn't even be a question. I mean, I don't know. Do you want to get into this now? Is this the time but I I don't think I don't even think it's the right time to even discuss it But I don't think there should even be a question It should not even it should be it should be posed as or it should be framed as a competition for Kellen Clemens Jake: should win. Let's put it that way. I do tend to agree that I think primarily because Chad Pennington didn't get hurt last year he lost his job and so he
01 Jake: lost his job now I don't think it's necessarily Kellen Clemens to win I think it's up to the well I mean it's certainly up to the staff but Do they think out of what they saw and I don't think they saw enough, right? Do they think out of what they saw that this is the guy for the future or not? I I literally think well, but surely Chad Pennington is not the guy for the next 10 years Kellen Clemens looks like an average quarterback at this point maybe trending towards below average just based on his stats and based on the games he played, but you have to give the guy another year to show. I mean, there's a reason you picked him. There's a reason you kept him around. You got to give him another year. But I will say, so a couple things going on here. One is Chad Paneton wants to be a starter somewhere, and he probably could be a starter. So there's a psychological thing of saying, Hagos and it's a competition. So, you know, stick around. The other way of going that is it's a competition. We think this guy's a starter, so he has more value in the trades. So they can say a lot of things and a lot of his double talk and whatever, but they ultimately they are looking for trades if there's a trade available on, on, you know, in the draft and there's something there. And they're also looking for to keep him around, you know, and happy. for the the the But in this NFL, where I think over half the teams last year went to a second. He'll play. You rather you rather have a really highly paid backup than some schmo comes in and loses games for you. Justin: So yeah, I mean, backups play. They all play. Yeah. Like no one plays every game. There's a couple of guys who play every game. One of them just retired. The other two are named Manning and Brady. Everyone else does. Yeah, you're lucky if you do. You know, there's one thing that I overlooked, and I guess I sort of want to retract my being so bold to say it should absolutely be Calen Clemens. The one thing I overlooked is the fact that Chad was pretty good and won a lot of games and led us to the playoffs a number of times when he had a good offensive line. So that might have had something to do with the fact that neither of the quarterbacks performed very well last year. It was a sieve. Jake: But that argument works for both. Justin: It works both ways. You're absolutely right. So let's get off that topic because I think we should argue about who should start in August or something. Jake: Once we see them back, once we see what the real plan is, I think the problem is now. I mean given today, I think it's they go in It's edge to Kellen Clemens and I would like to see edge to Kellen Clemens and have Chad Penn to be the backup and in training camp and that'd be the thing. But keep it competitive to keep Kellen on his toes but basically it would then be his to lose at that point. But we don't know what their overall plan is. We don't know what they're going to do in the draft. There's so many things going on all the time. It's like who knows.
01 Jake: So I'm not gonna go out on a limb at this point But let's talk about some other huge news in the NFL that's happened since we've been away. We called this segment In Other Kingdoms and that's it. So let's talk, I mean there's obviously the one big news in the, that happened in the off season and that is... Justin: I don't know what you're talking about. Really? Jake: You mean the Brett Favre retirement? I would say basically the Brett Favre retirement is probably the biggest news in the NFL. Ahhh, yeah, yeah, I guess so. I mean, I will tell you, and I said this in the last couple podcasts, and I said this as they were going in the playoffs, the Packers... are a good team, they're a good team with a good quarterback and a really young defense and they were playing out of their minds. I think that team would be better next year. Like just really? Yes they had no yes they would have been better if they'd kept far. Now I think oh yes yes yeah yeah Justin: oh yeah I think there's no way they're better next year now. No they're in rotten. No no no. But if they kept far yes they could have. Jake: definitely gotten back to the same level. Yeah, I think they were really good. They would have been playoff bound. I mean whether they can win those camp. Justin: Their defense was really good. They had a good running back, good running game. They had receivers, they had the quarterback, they had the line, they had it. Yeah. You know, I don't think they'll be bad because the defense is still very good and the running game is still going to be good. It's going to depend on Ken Rogers play. Can he play? No one's touched a football for the Pats, or for the Pats, for the Packers. He played in the Dallas game. For the last how many years? Jake: No, no, he played in the Dallas game. Justin: I know he played, but no one's touched the ball really meaningfully. I mean, he played well in one game, the game he got to play in. It's like, come on, this guy started 250 some odd games straight. They haven't seen another guy start at quarterback for like 15 years. It's disgusting. Jake: That's true, that's true. I wish you would have stayed one more year. I think. I mean maybe you want to go out on top, but I think he had another year in him. Um, other big news- Justin: Should we talk about the other kingdoms in the AFC East? Sure, sure, tell us. I was gonna lay the Zach Thomas loss for Miami out there. Yeah. I mean, at first, and this would have been awesome, but at first he was flirting with the Pats. That's. That wouldn't have been awesome. He was really flirting. Jake: Oh, come on, Zach Thomas is dumb. He's one of the best. But that's where linebacker's go to become better. Ah, bad. They didn't even need him. Justin: He would have just sat up there on the bench. I don't know. I think he was. Either way, he went to Dallas in Good Riddance. He's out of the AFC. I think he's washed up personally, but that's my own personal opinion. Jake: I think he's a concussion away. I think he's the Trent Green of linebackers.
00 Jake: I love the player. He's one of the dolphins who no matter who we played, when we played them, you know, I could talk bad about Jason Taylor and his smack talking and his mouthing off. But I always, I always respected Zach Thomas and I always thought he was a great player, high motor guy, played above who his, his physical abilities, like he was a small guy, but he played huge. I wish he retired because you know two concussions he was he's literally gonna hurt himself at this point But you know you go to make the money you go to do whatever you're gonna do I mean other other stuffs going on. I don't know who else is moving around. I mean a lot of people Joey Harrington went back to the Falcons Yeah, Trent Green's gone from Miami. Justin: He's back to the Rams where he started off his... Back there. You know, there's been so many moves that it's hard to... Yeah, it's hard. It's hard to just say, oh, what were the moves? I mean, you kind of have to go almost through it, like team by team, right? Yeah, I know. There's a lot of stuff. There's tons of stuff that have happened Jake: Yeah, see I'm going to the bills. Yeah, I'm looking through the bills as well Justin: They signed could be Camille chill from the Giants who is a a decent enough linebacker. Hey, he just won He just won a Super Bowl. They also obtain Marcus Stroud from Jacksonville who's like a stud defensive tackle he's another one of those huge big guys in the middle That could be really good For them he's a really good player So, you know, they definitely look to shore up their defense after being ran over last year by pretty much the whole NFL So that was kind of their big moves. They added a linebacker, added a big defensive tackle. So that's one of their big moves. Jake: Yeah, I'm looking up dolphin stuff. I don't really see a lot of stuff going on. I mean, really nothing. Justin: Yeah, they're going to make noise in the draft, I feel. I feel that Parcels' style. is to basically make noise in the draft. He makes trades, he makes picks, pick trades, like he'll pick, he'll trade down to acquire like four picks and then trade those to move somewhere else. Like he's very active in the draft, I feel. Or at least when he was with the Jats, they always had some fun in the draft. Jake: So it seemed. Yeah, and some of them turned out to be good things. Some of them turned out like... Justin: They also... I'm sorry, the Dolphins also picked up one of my favorite former Jets. Who's that? Big guy, a big fat guy in the middle, a Parcells guy, Jason Ferguson. Oh yeah, who was playing for Dallas, right? Who was playing for Dallas? He moved, he was a Parcells guy, he was picked from the sixth or seventh round.
01 Justin: Parcells believed in him, said, you're a huge fat guy who's going to stuff the run. And that's. what he did. He stuffed the run for the Jets and then for the Cowboys and now he's gonna do it for the Dolphins. He's a big fat guy in the middle. That's what you need. So that was actually a pretty good move and it's kind of one of those moves that goes kind of unnoticed unless you know who the guy is. Jason Ferguson like who's gonna know that he was traded for his sixth round pick. You know no one's gonna look at that as a big move but Jake: it is a big move. I think he's probably getting to the wrong side of his age. Yeah, I mean you're definitely right on that. Justin: But he could those big fat guys, they're just big and fat. They take up space. And look at look at Ted Washington and like Sam Adams. Those guys play forever. They just they're big and fat. They take up space and that's their job. Jake: I was gonna say the... The Patriots have done, not much, they've re-signed Gaffney, they've re-signed Moss. I think that's probably the biggest thing. Justin: Well that was a pretty big move for them, was to re-sign Moss and make sure that Tom Brady was happy after him losing his former favorite target. Can you believe he was whining about losing Dion Branch? Look what he has now. I know, I don't know. Dion Branch, can you believe that? And then they finagled a first round pick out of that. He believes Seattle dumb enough to trade a first-round pick for Dion Branch. Yeah, he didn't do my break Jake: When you have when you have when you have Brady's throwing do yeah, I mean it's Brady I'm just trying to think I don't think that there's not a lot of stuff going on I think that was kind of the stuff that's happened so far. It's probably stuff that we're not talking about insert Justin: It certainly moves. You know, just being in the New York area, I know the Giants signed David Carr the other day to back up. That's not really a big deal. He'll probably never get on the field, but he is a former number one overall pick. You got two former number one overall picks in the same... back field there playing quarterback which is pretty cool I they lost Kavika Mitchell they re-signed you know Tuck in the middle of the playoffs I don't know what else they're up to I know they re-signed Coughlin as well who also got a lot of money a four-year deal this is the guy they wanted fire after week three gets a four-year deal for like 21 million that's alright he deserved it he won the Super Bowl Hey Hey, he won the Super Bowl. He does this. Jake: Let's see if they can, you know, stick it. You know, most teams will win the Super Bowl or in the Super Bowl, turn into crap the next year or so. Justin: Talk about New York, though, right? Like the guy who was ready to be fired after week three or week two, they were going to want to fire the guy and then and then and then he wins the Super Bowl. He gets a four year deal for 21 million. What if they go like. What if they're like four and six next year?
00 Jake: After game ten, like what happens next? I think you get a mole again. You get your first year after. You get the... yeah, I guess you're right. If the Jets went to Super Bowl and won the Super Bowl, I wouldn't even care. Justin: I have a hangover for five years. Jake: I would show up with my Super Bowl champion t-shirt. If they went 0 and 16, I'd be like, okay, whatever, Super Bowl. uh... so others and other news just to get us keep going on the uh... on the ends here uh... jevon walker signed with the signs of oakland that's oakland kind of just going for a bunch of old guys Justin: he's a dick jevon walker he's a dick yeah i mean he walked him in the guy you know basically It was such a dick that he made his way out of Green Bay. What a great situation. You're there with Brett Favre and you can't just behave yourself. You're a good wide receiver, you have to be a dick, so goodbye. He goes off to Denver and he's a... You know, he's a dick there too, so they don't want him. He doesn't... I mean, the guy's really good. He's had some leg troubles, but he's really talented, but he's an asshole. So where do assholes go? They go to Oakland. Jake: I guess that's true. Well, another asshole left Oakland because Warren Sapp retired. So that's kind of that's big news. Yep. Julius Jones. Justin: No, that's interesting. Let me let me let me stop you. Well, where did Julius Jones sign? I think he signed with the Bears. Okay, good for him. That's kind of interesting though, sap retiring. Because I didn't even remember that. And yeah, we didn't even cover it as big news. And Warren sap could go... Well, he's going to make the Hall of Fame, I think. And he could go down as one of the best defensive tackles to ever play. Like, certainly in the top... Five to ten right he had one season where he had like 16 17 sacks as a defensive tackle That's disgusting and he was a force For a while in one of the best defenses in the league a defense that basically won the Super Bowl, right? Is that offensive? Definitely. Well, definitely won the Super Bowl. Yeah So you got a look at Warren sap being such a great player and No real fanfare there for that retirement and he was a colorful player too. Like he was a guy that people knew He had a he had a personality She'll probably end up in a broadcast booth somewhere Maybe maybe or a studio probably do more like studio or sideline maybe Right, I mean he's one of those guys who could do that seragoosie job. I imagine pretty well so So I mean that's just interesting how far well far is like a god Jake: But you know But that's that's the thing everything has to do with the news Cycle and if you get if you're a little bit news gets launched on a day with this new news
01 Jake: It gets picked up and run around the world if you if you're a huge news gets launched something. That's just a little bit huger uh... that it did that it gets under played yeah i don't know he he he went to play for a really bad team at the end that didn't do much yeah i just it just kind of you know it's a fizzle as opposed to far of who you know that's that's a it's a good going out story although you know i think that that the teams gonna suffer for tonight pretty much think he's going to be upset with his decision come next year but I guess you have to go out at some point maybe felt he could get as far as he could go you know it was destiny to win the Super Bowl in his last year and it just wasn't gonna happen so so I think that is about that for all the free agents signing on we've had Nice long show here for to make up for what we've been away I'll just give you the little bit of the schedule for what's coming up. We have dedicated. Oh wait, we actually do we were officially We have this locked in. Yeah. Yeah, you always you always last to know Justin: We're basically an out something that we might not do you mean like doing the pre suitable Jake: podcast It happens. We're basically going to do a pre-draft. We're going to talk about the draft when it comes up that week of the draft. So we'll do one there and we'll probably do one in between now and then. So we'll talk about any other news, any other stuff that's coming around. We'll do one between now and April, the last week of April. Maybe when the NFL schedule comes out on April 3rd, we'll do one the week after that. So there'll be one or two before the draft, certainly. We'll do one after the draft, right? We talked about doing one after the draft. Justin: I want to do a pre, you know, to analyze and make some predictions. Absolutely. And then a post. Thanks for watching! Analyzing the whole thing Going to how we thought the Jets did and then maybe even you know touch on the rest of you Jake: Oh, yeah, I mean what's number one pick in the draft is gonna be interesting this year Not a lot of quarterbacks QB, you know They need they need one the Dolphins need one, but we'll see so we'll do that I they're gonna break down but no one wants to trade up. We'll talk about this We will talk about it in our draft special. And then we'll do a couple in between, you know, maybe mini camp, maybe whatever, and pre-training camp. And then once we get back in the training camp, we'll get back on the wagon and we'll be doing our weekly talks. And so we'll be back in. Justin: Should we try to record one maybe at camp? Jake: It's possible we could try that, it's possible. Man, now you're making commitments to things that just don't happen. Justin: I don't want to go as far as to say that we should just do one live from camp because I'm pretty sure you can do those kinds of things now. I don't know, these internet things. Webs tubes do we have to say I think you can do live Now but I don't want to go as far as to say that but let's let's let's try to make some sort of effort
02 Justin: To actually go to camp and do one of these things from there I think that might be a very interesting thing and how should even try and get an interview or something if you're a Jake: security guard or something The hot dog vendor over here wants to do an interview with us. Justin: Hello, this is Justin from the Internet. How are you? Jake: You know what we could do? We could go over to Wayne's restaurant and interview him. So we're going to do that. That's the come schedule.
