16 Jake: This is the Jet Kingdom Podcast, episode 22 for Thursday, February 7th, 2008. Baby Manning. KATHRYN Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast! It has been a while. I know you've been waiting. As always, I'm Jake on this side of Digital Isle and on the other I have my buddy here. As always, this is Justin. Hey Justin, how are you doing? I'm doing all right. I'm feeling pretty good. Man, it has felt like a long long time since our last podcast. Justin: Yeah it has been. We should apologize. We meant to do one before the Super Bowl, but schedules did not permit. Jake: Yeah, I was actually going to lie to our listening audience and tell them we did do one and they missed it. Justin: Oh, but then they would think that there was like technical glitches. Jake: No, no, no. That it literally had happened, but they didn't find it. It was somewhere, but they didn't find it. It's their fault. In other words, not our fault. Their fault. Justin: Oh, well let's take the onus back. We'll take the sponsor back. Jake: Alright, alright, alright. So, in the small amount of time, I mean the last time we had a podcast, we were talking about the championship games, and I think we were pretty much wrong about what was going on. But uh, then- I don't think we were wrong in the championship games. Oh wait, well, I think I predicted that uh, well I definitely predicted that the Patriots would win, although not wanting them to win, the championship game, and then I definitely thought that Farriff would pull it through and win in Lambo. Justin: Well that's not what I thought. Jake: That is true, you were correct. Justin: As a matter of fact, I believe I ate lunch on you the other day because of that. Jake: Yeah, that is true, god. Alright, so let's just be honest. I honestly didn't think, um, and this is leading up to... are Super Bowl picks because I honestly didn't think that the Giants would be able to get done. I picked against them when they played Tampa Bay, I picked against them when they played Dallas, and I picked against them when they played Favre and the Packers, and I seriously didn't think they were going to go to the Super Bowl. So what happened after they lost to, or they won against Green Bay? I said that's it. I'm never picking that against them again. They will win. In my heart of hearts, I honestly didn't think they'd win, but I did go ahead and I did pick. Not only did I pick them with the points, which have been 12 points spread, not too tough, but I picked them straight up to win the to win the Super Bowl. One of very few. You on the other hand, who did you pick to win the Super Bowl? Justin: I picked the Pats. I picked Giants against Spread, if that counts for anything.
02 Justin: No, it doesn't. I guess not. But I did pick the Pats. I've been picking the Pats to win the Super Bowl since the beginning of the season. Jake: So I stuck with that. Yeah, and you know a lot of things came out in that last week I honestly and we've talked about this a lot offline, but I honestly thought that There was two teams at protein the Super Bowl in two different ways and one was doing it the right way One was doing it the wrong way one team was reserved quiet low-key saving their energy being the You know professionals that they are knowing where they came from knowing where they were going Ready for destiny and then the other team was like woohoo. We're the Super Bowl. Yeah, make a prediction We're gonna win 2317. You know, we're doing great Who is this other team? We're gonna win. Don't worry about us and I just honestly couldn't see them winning. I thought the Patriots were doing the right thing and being reserved. And I thought the Giants were being crazy for being all hyped up. And I thought, honestly, that they were going to lose because they were so hyped up. Now, of course, I picked them to win because I would never pick against them because after they destroyed me three weeks in a row. But it's the way I can be right and right. Which, as you know, is very, very important. So I was stunned. The game to me, and now we can talk about the Super Bowl and the craziness, the game to me was one in the first quarter on the first drive. That nine minute and 47 whatever, 47 second drive, that It wasn't just that they drove down the field because that's important and it wasn't just that they scored because they scored a field goal and that's okay. It was that they took so much time off and if you think about how they won, basically not giving enough time back to Brady to go down the field and do something, you know. to get a touchdown, they won by just keeping the ball away from Brady. And they won with their defensive line, and they won by not making huge, huge mistakes. I mean, just an amazing game, one of the better of Super Bowls I've watched in a long, long time. In fact, I think the one before this that was better or… equal was the Patriots Rams you know one in one with the field goal. So what do you think? What do you think about the game? I thought it was the best Super Bowl that Justin: I've personally ever watched. I'm you know I'm not young I'm 26 years old and I've The first Super Bowl I ever remember watching was 89 Montana coming back against the Bengals and I thought that that was like the greatest thing ever. I just I'll always remember watching that Super Bowl. It was my first one and it was Montana to Taylor at the end and this is another
02 Justin: Super Bowl that I'll never forget. It was so great from... you know, from so many different angles you had this team trying to go 19 and 0. You had this other team that was, you know, played the same team so tough at the end of the season where they lost and they almost considered it a win and propelled them. to the Super Bowl victory and it gave him like so much confidence and and and and then you had this this Eli Manning Who's been scrutinized? beyond belief here in New York Partly because he has the last name Manning partly because they made a Controversial trade and gave up a lot to get him when they could have had Roethlisberger and that'll be a controversy Or a you know a question and they'll be linked in history forever I guess at this point It's 1-1 in Super Bowls 1 and you know, maybe we could take this on a little a little rat hole here I love the game. Let's put it that way Let's take it on a little spin here now that Eli has won his Super Bowl and now that he's kind of cemented himself as a guy who you can believe in as a quarterback, any quarterback that wins a Super Bowl especially in the way that he did it by making that amazing play, a couple of great drives. How do you now consider him stacked up against Raffles Berger? And I guess we should include Rivers in the conversation because he was the other quarterback that got drafted in the middle of that whole whole thing. Jake: Yeah, I honestly I can honestly say I've never been a huge fan of Eli Manning. I've never thought he was a bad player. but I never thought he was a great player. I thought he was a good player. He had shown moments where he was able to go down and win the ball game, and he had shown moments where he just would lose the ball game for them. It was that whole bad Eli, good Eli thing. If you stack them up against those teams, I think Ben and Eli now. If you look at how they won the Super Bowl, they won through a good running game, check. They won through good protection, check. And they won through an amazing defense, check. That was the way of the game. And I honestly I think that that's the way you can win. And it wasn't on his shoulders. I mean, in that last drive, it was. And he had to make some plays and make a couple throws that were tough to make. But honestly, unlike some other times when you've seen Brady or you've seen Peyton put the ball, the game on his shoulders and really do the whole thing, they never made him do that. And that's why he was successful. And that's the way they won in. in Green Bay, that's the one they won in Dallas, that's the way they won in Tampa Bay
01 Jake: was, you know, keeping the turnovers low, if at all, having a great defense, having great defense that could get to the other quarterback and make them bad. I think honestly, Justin: if you have a good- At this point, make your choice. Between those three? Yeah, I mean, rivers included. Even though I think he's third. Jake: At this point of, wait, do I get to pick them from the four years ago or do I pick them right now? Justin: No, right now. Jake: Well, do you know what I'm saying? If I'm picking them from where you want, right now. If I'm picking them from four years ago, I'd pick Ben Mothisberger because I think he has a set of skills and a body type that just is very good, like for the NFL. well. And if I'm picking it now, who do I pick it now? Justin: Yeah, it's tough, isn't it? I mean, honestly. I mean, for years, for years, Eli and the Giants had to hear it from everyone, even their own fans. You should have picked Rothenburg. You had Rothenburg. If you would have just stayed there, you didn't have to make the trade. You could have even had Merriman. You had to include all that stuff in there. Yeah. Yeah. Now you have to look at it a little bit differently. Eli won you a championship. So, who do you want? Now I- You get to- Hey, we're the Jets. We want a new quarterback, and we have our opportunity to pick any of those three players. Jake: Yeah, that's a tough one. Okay, so who do I want to play on the Jets? That's a different question then who do I just generally want as a better quarterback? Justin: I know I'm gonna say if you running a team Who would you like to start your quarterback with now? Let's presume you're running the Jets. Okay. See that's the difference Jake: I mean you do you do I have a great defense? Well, if I'm running the Jets No, do I have a great running game? Well, does it matter? Yes Is it gonna persuade you? Yeah, I think it does. If I don't have a great defense... Justin: So you're gonna pick one over the other because you're the Jets? Yeah. Well, forget it then. What do you want? Jake: I'd say straight up I'd probably pick Eli. I think on a worse team I'd pick Roethlisberger. I think Roethlisberger is... would be better on a bad team that he can do more with his size and his strength than Eli can. Eli, I think, needs better protection and the way Eli has played poorly is when they get to him. So on a bad team with a bad front line, I'd take Roethlisberger on just any old team with a good front line and a good defense. I think Eli would be able to win more games. But even counting out rivers at this point. I mean rivers has been successful. Scratchy's had great players on his team too, but I guess they all have at this point. So that's my answer Do you here's mine to you? Do you think that you would put Eli in the Where in the top list if you're going down the list of quarterbacks, where do you put you I? Justin: This is funny because we did this exercise, you and I, it was like a month or two ago,
01 Justin: maybe two months ago. ESPN had this thing up on their homepage or on one of their pages that allowed you to basically rank every quarterback in the league. That's true. Yeah, so we both did it and I think you had Eli somewhere in the 20s. Jake: Yeah. Thanks for watching. Thanks for watching. We'll see you next time. Justin: And I also had Eli somewhere in the teens maybe, in the mid teens. Now I'd have to reevaluate. I mean... Does he break top 10 for you though? At this point, you'd be hard pressed now that he's won a Super Bowl and you've seen that he could play on a whole other level. Jake: Um... Justin: He played great in the playoffs. Yeah, he's in the top 10. Yeah, I have a hard time putting him in the top 10. You know what? We have plenty of time. Why don't we try this? Pick 10 quarterbacks in the league that are better than Eli. Brady? We can start with the top four that are easy. Brady, Manning, Favre, Romo. So start with those four. Hasselback? Matt Hasselblak 5, that's debatable. Jake: True Breeze, no it's not debatable. True Breeze? True Breeze, another debatable one. Um, well now you're right. Now I'm getting to, uh, Garcia McNabb. Garcia's debatable. McNabb. Also debatable. Well, yes, everything's debatable. Um, well, there's some backups out there, some good backups. No, I think he would just be outside of the, uh, the top ten. You would really, you'd really put, like, Jeff Garcia ahead of him at this point? Yeah. Jeff Garcia. Really a 37-year-old Jeff Garcia ahead of a guy who had just won a Super Bowl? Jeff Garcia had a better, had a better year, um, than, uh, than you I did. it. Again, if you look at Eli's numbers, they're not very good. So again, it's whether you think he played out of his mind Oh Derek Anderson. Okay, I put him up there, too Oh really after one year? All right. Well, come off a spurt. Yes, maybe I put Roth's burger up there not don't think I like I like David Garard. She's pretty good. David Garard would be a good one But then again, I mean, I think you could now the device won the Super Bowl and played so well in the playoffs Definitely Cleo lemon put him right up there. I'm just kidding Jump jump back, baby We have to talk about that too the tuna have we talked about the tuna we've talked about the tuna Jake Talk about I'm just reading down some Brady Coyle. No. Yeah, none of those guys Keller's not Justin: Not even close to where it is. Jake: David Carr, no. Jason Campbell, no. Oh, no. You're, he would be, you're right. I think he'd be right around ten. I think he'd be ten nine. Ten or nine. Yeah, like right in, right in there. He would be in there. And you could make a good argument. I think he'd probably get pushed into ten because of Super Bowl Ring. But again, Trent Dilfer, um...
00 Jake: Chad Johnson, lots of people win Super Bowls, not really good quarterbacks. Brad Johnson, Brad Johnson. Brad Johnson, sorry. Chad Johnson. Right. Justin: Those guys were more like game managers. Jake: And to be honest, I think that Eli's good. And if he thinks that the pressure's off him now, I think the pressure's almost double him now. Because now they know what he can do. Justin: Yeah, but he gets... cut some slack. Oof, I think you're... I mean, he's... you know what's great about it? He now knows what it's like. It's the greatest. To win in New York is so great. It's the greatest. You know, as a Jetfan, I've never actually... Um, experienced it? Yeah, I know. Um, you know, as a Yankee fan, I experienced it quite a bit. And to win the World Series in New York is like huge. And look at, look at what happened to Eli in a month. He went from, you know, goat and guy who they might not have even wanted back. Same for Coughlin. to toast of the town. You're our quarterback forever. You're our coach for the next bunch of years. Spagnola just signed a three-year deal worth two million dollars to stay with the Giants and that's the highest paid defensive coordinator in the league right now. So I mean, these guys I feel like the toast of the town. Gosh, I wish the Jets could really. Pull some shit off. That would be so great. Jake: I'm also going to throw Vince Young in that mix somewhere. And I'm also going to throw, who did I just, oh Carson Palmer. So you got a bunch there. I think it's tough. I definitely like that. Justin: Yeah, you're always better than Vince Young at the moment. Yeah, probably. Yes, definitely. Way better, actually. He's on another level with Vince Young. Vince Young's not ready yet. He'll be good, but not yet. Jake: So I don't know. I don't have a couple more comments about the Super Bowl. I'll tell you, I did one thing that I never thought I would ever do in a Super Bowl. This would be a great tease if we actually had commercials because I could do that and then come back to the game. But here's what I did for the Super Bowl. I T-vowed ESPN's coverage, which started at 11 a.m. and went till 2, so it was like three hours. and then I waited until about four in the afternoon and started watching that. Instead of watching the Fox stuff, which I had a couple of reasons for, I watched ESPN's coverage in TiVo time, but basically I liked their coverage better, I liked their guys better, I liked that they'd keep it just a football and not put in a bunch of politics, which the Fox people were and you know my I literally vetoed Fox for the entire countdown. They had an 11 or 10 hour or some crazy thing countdown. They were doing it Super Sunday. They were talking about politics. They were talking about football. But I honestly stayed away from the whole thing because of, well, basically because of Fox News Network and their political spin on things. And I think I had a better experience. I got to watch what I thought was the better countdown show. So.
00 Jake: and count down the Super Bowl and then I flipped right over and the Super Bowl was starting and I was happy as could be to watch the game. You know what I did? What did you do? He watched the whole thing. I jumped in the ocean. Yes, and for you all of you out there who want to know what he's talking about, go to JetKingdom.com and read the news story about jumping in the ocean in the polar bear club for people on Super Bowl Sunday. Which is odd. Anyway, so that's the Super Bowl. Well, come on, we can't leave this podcast or leave the Super Bowl without saying nah nah nah nah nah 18 and 1. It's so awesome. Justin: You know, it's so weird. It's like I almost wanted that game to end in a tie because I didn't really... really feel all that great with the Giants winning the Super Bowl because I don't know I'd rather be the Jets and and and I really I don't know I that Jake: New England thing I kind of wanted them to go 19 and I was weird I mean because you're a you're a Pats fan which we've already talked about in previous episode Justin: That's but that didn't work out at all. I can't tell if I... A lot of injuries, a lot of injuries on the Rams. They got killed by injuries. Jake: I think I did a little better because I picked two teams that made the playoffs, so I picked Colts and Seattle Seahawks. Justin: Yeah, I did better though. I got a team that actually made the Super Bowl. Jake: Yeah, you and everybody else who picked the Patriots being Super Bowl, that's a tough one. Whatever, man. Justin: You... Not only did you pick... the Colts in the beginning of the season, you then reiterated that. Oh yeah, that was on season. Jake: Did I? Yeah, I did. That was bad. Justin: Yeah, and you know what? They didn't even win a game in the playoffs. Jake: You know what we're gonna do? Our next podcast, which we'll do in let's say two weeks, we'll come back and we're gonna go over our predictions for the season. for the Jets season. We actually went game by game and we predicted who would win what and why. We'll go back over that in our next podcast. Justin: Most of those games I think you picked the Jets 16 times. No I didn't. No I picked them to go 9-7. Jake: Yeah, but, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, season one. Justin: when we picked every game one by one? Jake: When we picked the season, yes. Oh, okay. And I guess that leads us to the end of the Super Bowl. I'm glad it's over. It was the Jets' nightmare bowl. Our cross-town rivals against our arch enemies.
01 Jake: Bill Belichick, still a jerk. It's come out now that it's possible that they actually taped the rams in the first interval and taped their pregame practice or walkthrough. It's possible it could get into some Senate hearing stuff. I'm not sure how I feel about that because part of me really wants the pagers just to pay, pay, pay for their spying. thing. And they'd be showing up for who maybe they are. But the other piece about it though is it's bad for NFL. If that really turned out to be a huge scandal, it's bad for the sport that I love. And just like you're a big baseball fan, I don't know why, but just like the steroids thing, it's destroying your game. I mean, people aren't talking about who's good or not. They're talking about... uh... you know uh... what is it now eight-year-old uh... a blood samples uh... i mean they're talking about that not about you know who's gonna be good who's not her are you can send and i go on the map to whatever it is they're talking about uh... that and i think that that hurts your sport uh... which doesn't need to get any more hurt that that the the the nfl had a tough year and started off with basically michael vick and then went kind of downhill and we had kevin ever announce cover down and up and then there's the uh... pac-man jones stuff and uh... it you know it was kind of up here but it it turned out well in the perfect season there's a perfect house and turning great playoffs and they had that saturday night game in the summer really that uh... the uh... The Dallas Packer game was a great game. It was some really great moments, but if they get a huge black eye for this, it could hurt them as a sport. As a sport, I don't want NFL to be hurt. I want it to remain solid. As much as I kind of want the Patriots to pay, I almost want this thing to go away. Because it's not going to change anything. What are they going to do? Take away the Super Bowl champion? What is it going to do? Justin: Well, I have mixed feelings on this one because I am a Patriots fan, right? Yeah, you are. I always think that if they should just be... Punished in a way that kind of negates the advantage that they gained And I've always kind of said this where you know They obviously spied and did something that was against the rules by using you know the technological advances advancements that they weren't supposed to be using and I think that The league should probably just take some of those things that they give to every other team and take them away from the pads just not let them use them because It's unfair Yeah, they shouldn't gain an advantage in an illegal way and then not really have to pay for it in any meaningful way on the field
04 Jake: I think I said it down in the pocket is one thing but I Set it back. I don't go to the field But I think that's a very strange theory. To take away someone's future, I mean, to take away their technology gets kind of weird. Why not just say, okay fine, you're done, you know, and take away money or take away draft picks, which they did, or I thought they should have suspended Belichick. But they're saying if this thing goes through, you know, NFL sources, goes through, they're saying that the It could be a year suspension for Belichick and wow that would be awesome. Actually that's awesome That would be something to root for in itself. Yeah, that is cool. I like that um and One last let's get some jets news in here. It's not going to be much news for a while We're going to get talking about the draft. We'll do a pre-draft show, we'll do a post-draft show, we'll do a minicamp show, and we'll probably do some shows during the summer talking about if there's other big news. Yeah, if something happens like a free agency, we'll definitely do right after free agency opens or something, we'll do those shows. But the one thing right now, there's an article came out the other day and said the Jets, that Eric Mangini's on the hot seat as a coach, and I wanted to get your opinion. Why? Do you think he's on the hot seat? Oh, who said that? The it was some article just saying that you know coaches on the hot seat they do it every year Justin: Nah, he's not in the hot seat. I don't think he is I think first of all I Mean, I shouldn't say he's not everyone's on the hot seat every coach in the NFL is a Nazi So many guys get fired year over year And it's just not an easy job. So what did we win? Four games, five games? Jake: Four games, yes. Justin: So if he wins less than four games next year, sure, he'll probably be fired. But if he goes 8-8 off of a 4-12 year, or if he goes 9-7, or God forbid, 10-6, or 11-5, or make the playoffs. It all depends on what he does. I don't think he's really on the hot seat I think every coach is on the hot seat and it's one of those Positions and jobs that you're always judged on what your performance is Unless you're a guy like, you know, Jeff Fisher in Tennessee because he proved himself early on and they believed in him Bill Cowher in Pittsburgh and let him go on his own. Bill, uh, Dungy's a great example in, in, in, in India. They, they're not gonna ever fire him cause they go five and 11. You know, it just won't happen. Jake: But that's, but you're saying, well, you're two sides of the argument cause you're saying people don't get fired for fire. the reason he doesn't get fired for what he does is because he does it because he he keeps getting the playoffs in fact he has you know great seasons and again again I think man genie's got one or two years I mean I think you give him one more year than next year because of his age and if you thought you're gonna hire someone who'd never been a head coach who's 35 years old and they come
00 Jake: in and start wiping the floor with people you know you were stupid you Justin: basically well hey let me ask you a question Do you think Cleveland was stupid for letting Bill Belichick go? Jake: Do I think Cleveland was stupid for letting Bill Belichick go? Yeah. No. They fired him. No, I know they did, after three seasons. Um, no. Why not? Because... Don't you think they wish they'd had him back? No. Yeah, but that's like he didn't go if he went from Cleveland and then went to another team and then turned that team into the Super Bowl Champions that eat that next year then they would be stupid for doing it, but he didn't do that He went back to being a defensive coordinator He then sat under one of the best coaches ever in the game for years and learned from that person and then went Yeah, but that's but he always works for par cells, but That's the point though. He didn't just leave from Cleveland and go become a Super Bowl winning champ, or Super Bowl winning coach. He went from Cleveland and then spent many years, I don't have to add them up, but I think it's five or six years, underneath somebody else, and then went to become the good coach. So he was already Bill Parcells' defensive coordinator many years before he coached Cleveland. Right, but then he went back to it. Yeah, and then he went back because they fired him. Justin: Because he wasn't any good. So I'm saying where he got good was after he was like, Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, he wasn't any good. I mean, come on, the guy's proven to be very good. Not a clue when he was. What if they just let him mature? Not if they let him mature there? Jake: I don't think he would have. I don't think it doesn't work that way, huh? No, no. But I think Man Genie's already matured. at up in up in Patriots land Justin: where it will that's no no you're going against your exact logic that you were just saying you said you know uh... really all check mature on the person of different Jake: people though i think bell check went to Cleveland did poorly got fired and then went and matured more and then became the better coach Mangini, I think, and I'm hoping, Manchurid under Belichick and has come to the Jets and will lead Jets to the Promised Land. Justin: All I'm saying is if we don't give the guy enough time, because he is very young, I don't want to turn out to be the Cleveland Browns. Jake: Oh, absolutely. I totally agree. And you know what? Odds are we will. Odds are he will stay for another couple of years, be semi successful, but be too young. He'll go back. He'll be the defensive coordinator for someone for five years and then he'll come back and then he'll be a really great coach. He is young. There is a real, not everybody can come out. It's very rare to come out and be very good your first year. I would almost guess that the second year is the toughest. So like the coach of the Steelers, it's stuck in my mind, this year. He came out, he took over a great team, and he did great. Now, is he going to be able to do that again next year? I don't know.
00 Jake: So the coach, the Steelers too got an easier schedule, and we got an easier schedule the first year. Well, now we'll go back to having easier schedules. This is the year. for the next video. that he gets to put in his 3-4 defense, he gets to put in the offense he wants, he gets to make the choices for three years on the players he wants, and so this is the year you better see real improvement, and improvement doesn't mean getting back to 8-8 or 9-7. Improvement means, well, improvement means to me 9-7 because that's where he should have been after three years, right? You take over a crappy team, you should be up into the playoffs within three years. So basically, because you go into the playoffs the first year, he should be back to the playoffs this year. And if he's not, he, if it's a horrible season, I think he will be gone. Probably not rightfully, but again, you can't stick with them forever. Just, just on the thought that he might become the next Bill Belichick because so very few do. I, I believe in consistency and I think that consistency helps, but you also don't stick with somebody forever just because, you know, they might turn out to be someone good. Sometimes you got to go out and get someone good. sound. Justin: Woah. Do you think that we're, uh, how many guys do you think we're going to coach from this New England team this year? Jake: Uh, well, there's talks with Sante Samuel, but he didn't look so good in the Super Bowl. Um, but he's- You know, you know what? You know what? That brings up a good point about Sante Samuel. Justin: That really reminds me. I know we said we're done with the Super Bowl, but the reason the Pats lost that Super Bowl is twofold. you know, one, the Giants play great, and two, the Pats didn't make the plays that they always make. And when I say that, I'm thinking of two plays on that last Giants drive that the Pats make consistently. And they're like, well, there's two plays that they make consistently that that they didn't make. One was the fourth and one they usually stop, they stop that team. Right. They do that. They're the team that stops you on 4th and 1 and then run off the field and win. Secondly, Asante Samuel dropped an interception. And if he picks that ball off, the game is over. Yeah. They had two chances to put that game on ice right there, and the Pats usually follow through. Yeah. So you saying Asante Samuel reminded me of that. That's why I said that. Jake: But I think the Pats got away with a lot of that stuff all season and that's why they had such a great season. It was a season in which things went their way until the last game of the season. There were so many times where it was the one call went away or the three calls or they got the pick or they got the thing or they got the sack. I mean they got a lot of that stuff and it's not I'm not saying it's against them because the year before the Jets did it. We had a great turnover ratio two years ago, and that was what helped us do well. We had a bad one this year, and we were doing poorly. It's one of those things. If it goes your way, it goes your way, and you should take it and run with it. And the Patriots, all year long, they had, when Brady was playing hot,
02 Jake: their defense could give up 35 points, and they'd still win. That's what we played against the... the Giants the first game when Brady was playing horribly the defense would stand up and they would still win and that's the way they played against San Diego but but realistically it you can't you can't always rely upon that and obviously at the end of the day they got a team that just had more it just had more life in them they wanted it so much more you see that on every play the big the big thing was protecting Brady No quarterback, not Manning, not Brady, not anybody. If they get sacked five times and literally thrown to the ground, another 10 is ever going to be able to win a game. They just can't because it was like a jailbreak. It was like watching the Jets. I mean, watching the Jets front line. They literally just went through them every time. And this is the team that racked up the most, the Giants. racked up the most sacks in the league and there's a reason why. I mean there's that one game against McDabb, what is it like 12 sacks in the game or something like that? It was something ridiculous. So yeah that's the reason they won. Manning did well. He didn't play out of his mind. His stats weren't any bad. In fact Brady's stats. and Brady's stats weren't even that bad. I mean, if you look at his stats against the Jets when we played up in Foxborough, where he didn't throw a, where he threw an interception, he didn't throw a touchdown, they were worse, much worse stats. So he's played worse, but he had no time to play. And you're right, they dropped balls when they shouldn't, they couldn't get Moss open. And had to do with that defensive line against the offensive line. And hopefully that's what we do in the draft. And that is what is going to end up being the end of this podcast. No, I think I'm just hoping 2008 is a better year for the Jets. Let's just hope that happens. Jake: Well on that I will say as always I hope it's a great year. We're already undefeated in 2008 and the Patriots have already lost the game so it can't be
05 Jake: that bad. 19-0 no more. It's 18-0. Oh my. And for that I say, go Jett. 🎵 you
