11 Jake: of their women. As a Jet Kingdom podcast episode number 27 for Tuesday, June 17, 2008. Vegas Odd. But welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast, my holy brothers. It has been a long, long time. We are very sorry. But to get us started, as always, on this side of the digital aisle, it's Jake. And on the other side, I have my buddy, as always, Justin. Hey, Justin. How you doing? Good. I'm doing very well. How are you? I am very well. It has been way too long. It has been over a month. Our last podcast... It feels like just yesterday. Our last podcast was May 1st. Was that the release date or the recording date? That was the release and recording date. It's the same date. and it was a long time ago. So nothing's happened, so thanks very much for listening and we'll see you later. Actually, we got tons of things to talk about, none of them are what you're... groundbreaking news because something's happened in the past. But let's get to talking about what we have to talk about. First of all, I want to thank... All the listeners because while we were away our our stats shot up up up up up up up and we hit new records for Subscribers, so I just want to say for all those people who are subscribing now Double the double the amount that we were last time Welcome, and we hope we don't disappoint two people now. It is doubling the one. It is now two people. And we would like to say hello to mom and mom. So no, but seriously, all you guys, it's great to have you aboard. I hope to. And gals. And gals. We don't know. We don't have a demo. Or gals. Yes. See you next week. Maybe it's most of them, 99% guys and one gal. Welcome. So let's get to some news. Let's get to talk about the Jets. I mean, there's been something since the last time we've talked. We basically had some camps, we had the voluntary camps, and we had some, well, all. We had some people not show up to camp. What's the acronym for those voluntary camps? Isn't it? OTAs? OTAs, optional training activities. I'm making that up. It is. Optional training something. That might even be right. Let's talk about it. Let's talk about the first, kind of the most important thing to happen, or the thing that's hap- spinning and is still happening, which is the Chris Baker
02 Jake: situation. Justin: This is so not important. Jake: It's actually pretty important because Chris Baker went into a resounding contract last November, as I understand it, and was told in some roundabout way. If you do well, if things are good, we will talk about renegotiating. From the words I've heard him say, from the words I've heard from Cannon Bomb, it sounded vague at best. So like, maybe if, then okay, maybe we will do something, see ya. And, so here comes the off season and basically... Chris Baker is demanding a new contract. He's saying, listen, we need to negotiate. I had my best year, my most productive year as a tight end, and I want mo money, mo money, mo money. And he's not going to camp. He didn't go to the voluntary ones. he did go to the involuntary ones. Um, so what do you think? Wow, what not a big deal? He didn't have things that he didn't have to go to. It's a big deal. It's a big deal when everybody else goes. It's a big deal when everybody else goes and when he's making a stink. Then let's call them mandatory. Okay, he's sitting there and talking to the press and he's saying how disappointing. If I don't want to I know you've got short-term, you know disability or memory loss But if you don't remember back a season ago, this is the exact same thing that happened with someone we like to call Pete Kendall is the same thing right the guy was oh, you don't we can get rid of him as far as I'm concerned He's an average tight end in the league Average no more. No, no less. He has very good hands, but he's he's never there disappears in games So, you know what? Goodbye, I can apply you have to say that but I could go back and not that I have the time energy or willingness and you want And I won't but I could go back and somebody out there They're many times that we called out Chris Baker for having great hand great last year So, you know to say to say that he's totally is a mistake I think when you use a high draft pick on a tight end and the tight end that's making noise can go away. How many times have we done a tight end, a high draft pick on a tight end? It doesn't matter. Well Chris Baker was one of those guys. It doesn't matter. To me, he's not Tony Gonzalez, he's not Antonio Gates, he's not Jason Witten. He's not a top five, he's probably not a top ten. He's somewhere in the middle. So as far as I'm concerned, when you use a high draft pick on a guy. at the same position as another guy who's just average, you can make that guy expendable. OK, the counterpoint that is for all those people who aren't just reactionary. The problem with Dustin Keller, the tight end we picked up in the first round
00 Jake: after moving up to get him in the first round, which maybe was a reach, we'll see. He's got great hands, great speed, more of a wide out than anything. And now we're going to the next station. Well, exactly. I totally agree. I think Chris Baker should shut up. I think this is a situation where if you have a new contract in November, you can't be four months later saying, unless someone said, we will guarantee you, we will renegotiate this contract in November and they should put down that in the contract, then forget that. You're coming off a four and 12 season. you're an okay player but you know what I mean around the league isn't everybody isn't going crazy plus the fact we let him go in the free agency I think either last year two years ago and no one picked him up so we actually resigned a guy who let go and no one picked up so wasn't even a starter at the time I mean the guy's not anything to even I don't understand why we've talked about him for this long. I think most of the fans would agree. Well, the problem with not talking about him is it just smells. It just smells of last year where we kind of had a guy who, you know, well, you're making too much noise. See you later. We don't care. And then, okay, well, actually we do care because we've, you know, we've lost a we've lost a player who made our line better. I agree. We have Bubba Franks now. We have Chris Baker and Dustin Keller. Bubba Franks is a good blocker, good in the red zone. Dustin Keller looks like he'll be great hands. Certainly when you're doing multiple tight ends, it could be a good deal or without a good receiver. I'd buy. It's fake. Huh? We'll see you later. So it looks like Chris Baker, I wish you'd shut up. But again, it's decisiveness in the locker room. It could be one of those things that follows us in a camp. I'm hoping not. End of story. Next topic. Camps in general. I mean, I assume you've been reading all the wonderful posts on the web. All of them. Every single one. Every single one and one strikes me as very interesting Okay, go ahead and tell me what's the most interesting you think came out of camps and everything you read our neighbors the New York Giants You could not possibly be more dysfunctional coming out off of a Super Bowl win you could not possibly you know what? I don't think the Giants are gonna have like in Vegas, you know for next year whenever they make the odds or whatever They're already out I'm sure they are but once you know once preseason rolls around and it becomes real I can't imagine that the Giants are anywhere close I imagine, you know, they'll be like 20 31 to win
02 Jake: the Super Bowl again because they look awful and they have all sorts of issues with Shockey and Plaxico and and losing some key players on defense and Strahan retiring a mess. I would I dare say eight and eight maybe less maybe worse Super Bowl hangover. Well, they're actually what we think their odds are 20 to 1 to 30 to 1 something like that. Alright let's just see how smart you are. Okay what do you think the Jets odds are? Eh, uh, 40 to 1. And what do you think the Patriots odds are? Just give me a shot. Jesus, uh, 2, I don't know, I'm gonna say 2 to 1 but 3 to 1. Okay so the Patriots are 5 to 2 right now? 5 to 2, 3 to 1, that's about right. Giants are 10 to 1. . I would never bet on them at 10 to 1 right now. Jets are 75 to 1. I take that. 75? Come on man, you put like, you know, 20 bucks on that? That's not bad. And just throw it out there, dolphins, what do you think the dolphins are? That's nothing. 20 bucks. Some decent money for those jets. If they win the Super Bowl. Justin: That's all we got that. Jake: Okay. Back Miami Dolphins. This is easy money. Make a guess. Oh, geez. Uh, 200? 150 to 1. That's not money worth spending. Let's do the AFCs, uh, the bills. Let's see. Uh, what were we, 75? We were 75, yeah. 60. Wow. Did you look that up? That's pretty good. That's 60 to 1 on. No, I don't even know where you're looking. I don't even know where you're looking at this. There's a thing I call the internets. It's a series of tubes. It's very impressive. Yeah, well there's a lot of different websites and some of them probably have different numbers than others. Yes, I find them with a thing I call the Google. Anyway, yeah, you nailed that. They're a sponsor. We shouldn't mention them by name. Okay, sorry. Until they're a sponsor. Today's Jet Kingdom podcast is sponsored by Google. the number three And the number three 60 to 1 odds good job good job. I don't I'm not really impressed with it So the thing that came out of the camp for me You know it's a lot of talk. It's a lot of stuff it obviously gets down to you know the big pieces of Other pieces filling together you know it looks like chancey Stucky Is not just a one-hit wonder. He might actually be something it looks like Justin Miller is becoming long and is got You know if he plays consistently might be that number two corner You know they looking ahead into play special teams at all. I don't know that that I didn't get out of the out of the reports You know the offensive line is tough to tell running backs is tough to sell No line should be better. It should be better. But you know, here's the thing. I mean, I'm saying in camp, you know, you're not doing full pads, you're not doing full contact, who knows what anybody's just doing. So you know, running backs and things like that, when you're not doing full contact,
03 Jake: well, running back. You know, there's talk about Jesse Chapman having tons of speed. like just bucking his speed. Yeah, but he's a guy who has been on tons of teams and never has been much of anything. I don't know if he just finds his way. That would be interesting. And then I think the big talk, you know, is really we could talk about the big talk of the off season and really that will probably lead us all the way up until the beginning of the season, hopefully not. is really the quarterback controversy. So let's do, you know, I know your side and I will pick the other side. I'll go with the other side. So give me the... Oh wait, are you going with the side because you know my side or do you believe one way or the other? I'll let you know at the end of the conversation. Oh, that's stupid. I'm sorry you feel that way. So who do you think should be the starter for the 2008 New York Jets? Well, I would... I'd like to have it open in the pre-season and see who could actually win the job, but... you know without the uh without the privilege of having that I will say I'd like to see Kellen Clemens win the job and why because I know what Chad is and I know he's not winning a Super Bowl um so the guy he's got us to the play hey whoa mister can I answer first uh I know what Chad is He is the guy who got us to the playoffs. He's also the guy that has not gotten us to the Super Bowl. I don't know what Callan Clemens is. All I do know is he's got a big time arm and he's got a offensive line that shouldn't be a civ this year. He's got another year under his belt and eight starts in the league. I'd like to see what he's got. Yeah, I mean I think that it's an interesting tactic to take. One of the things you said, he's got an offensive line, well that helps both quarterbacks. So I think the history has proven that the quarterback position or that if you upgrade everybody, everybody will do better, right? So if you make the offensive line better, both quarterbacks will do better. If you make the running game better, both quarterbacks will do better. But Chad, given the tools, has gotten the Jets to the playoffs three times. That's the most in the... that's the tying the record, I think Ken Dorsey, I'm going to throw that out there, tying the record of forgetting the Jets to the playoffs. I don't know who Ken Dorsey is. I'm just throwing it out there. That's not... That doesn't sound right at all. I think I read that today. And maybe it's not. But the point is he is a proven quarterback. I agree, you know what you got, but then you know what you got. You know that two years ago he won 10 games and he won us the playoffs with no running game. Remember that year we had no running game and we had running back committee and guys who
02 Jake: aren't even on the team anymore. I don't know. Honestly, honestly, deep down in my soul, I can't really argue for the Chad too much. I do agree. We've got the guy, you know, we've got sort of the known and the unknown. I just don't think that this is the year that you have to say you have to win. Because if you say you have to win this year, honestly, I think just looking at the stats and looking at everything we have now, Chad right now could win. 8 to 9 games this year. I just know he could. Yippee. That's the thing. Looking at it right now, who could win? You know, can, looking at it right now, can Kellan Clemens from the guy we saw last year kid, he win 8 to 9 games? Probably not. The question is, is the guy we saw last year going to get better and is there upside? and to me. That's the thing. Looking at Kellen Klemens, there's an upside to him. There's probably a two to three game upside. This is a guy who could come out and surprise. This is a guy who could throw the deep ball. This is a guy who's more mobile. This is a guy who, given another year, another season, another training camp, another chance of being the starter could actually, you know. There's upside to him. That being said, he's got some big drawbacks. He looks like a chicken with his head cut off in the pocket. I said this last year and you used to poo-poo me and be like, he doesn't see it. I want to see him this year. Well, I saw him last year and he always wanted to see him this year. He held onto the ball too long, he would throw and he would overthrow his receivers, which would get picked off and run back. So, you know. You just need to slow down a little for him. You can only get that by playing. I agree. I agree. The guy needs more time. But if you're a guy who thinks that this year, if this is the year that we need to win, I think Chad is your guy. I think if you're saying... Yeah, but you're thinking that in a year that you need to win, you're putting your hopes in a guy that you actually just said that you believe could win eight. to nine games. That's not a eight to win thing. Eight to nine games doesn't translate for me. If you're like, we need to win this year kind of thing, which I don't think we do. I think we're actually younger than we are old. I don't think we need to win this year. I think it'd be smarter since we know what Chad is gonna get us at the Upside he has plateaued if not is on the way down he we're not getting a Upswing of Chad we're not seeing we're not gonna see it a new reinvented Chad Pennington. We don't know what we're gonna get with Kellen still and it might be something great. Who knows? You don't know. Right, but it also could be something shitty. Yeah, well, Eli Manning looked like shit his first season when he played. He had a zero quarterback rating. And his second season and his third season.
01 Jake: That's what I'm saying. So you gotta let these guys, you know, play. That's the only way that they get better is by play. I totally agree, except for if you think that we, if this is a season that we have to get to the playoffs or... I don't. I don't. Let's put it this way. If it's a season that we have to get to the playoffs, I don't think that that's, uh, that either one of them gives you a better chance. I think it's even in that regard. No, I don't think I can do any better chance of getting to the playoffs than Colin Clemens does as the starter. I totally disagree. I mean, I'm, I'm not even taking the opposite side just to be, you know, opposite. If you had to look at the paper and you look at the pedigree, no, I'll do that once in a while because I'm a jerk. If you look at the pedigree of the people, I would say definitely if I have to hand this team to somebody because I need the nine wins this year, I hand it to Chad because with the tools that he's given. This year, with a run offense, with a big powerful offensive line, Chad is a guy who could get the nine wins, definitely. But I do agree that Kellen has a bigger upside. You're betting on him that there's more in there, more in the tank, and that he could get you to the 9-10 wins, and then win a couple playoff games. Didn't you hear me? I'm a betting man. I'm winning. I'm willing to put $20 on the Jets $20 It's why I want Ellen to 75 It's it's it's the theory the other thing I'll have to say is no team Well, not no team very few teams start and then with the same quarterback or yeah exactly never have one of the quarterbacks in and To me, I think Chad is a better back up at this point because I think he's a great mentor for Kellen. I think he can push Kellen. That's why I think this whole competition thing while the New York media is getting nuts about it, it's good for them because it'll push Chad to be a better player and it pushes Kellen Clemens to be a better player. And ultimately that's what we want. We want Kellen Clemens to be a better player because he's the guy who's going to be around hopefully in three, four years, you know, after our four or five years winning streak. Unless it's Eric Inge. Yeah, no, no, no. You don't throw them to the wolves. You don't just say whatever. His dad might win NBA Finals tonight. That would be very exciting if we were on Boston Celtics podcast. Oh, he's in relation to the Jets. Yeah, not really. Not at all. He's actually physically related. He's not related to me. Oh, no. He's not in your family. Not in my family. Not yet. I don't know, the whole thing is it's going to be a media thing, they're going to want to pay attention to it because it's got juice, it's got some sexiness and we'll talk about it all the way up to the training camp, we'll talk about it in the training camp. I think for the good of the team, they should make that decision after the second preseason
02 Jake: game. They should say, okay, it's yours. My decision has been made. Well, I'm so glad. You need to call up Eric Mangini and tell him. Alright, so that's the quarterback. I will not wait. That's the Chris Baker. I will not wait. That's the camps. We got some other tiny little news. You know, the kind of the... More than the actual team is doing anything right now. The news is really pouring out about... about something that's happening to the team which is the new stadium. In the last three, four weeks we've had the marketing blitz from the New York Jets. They sent out a pamphlet. They've done a construction cam on NewYorkJets.com. They've put out these series of... I'm doing air quotes articles about what it is to be in new, what you're going to get in new transportation, what you're going to get the new level of premium. They have all these kind of articles. They're all okay. They're basically fluff pieces. Then there was a survey sent out that actually talked about PSL prices. So. all adding up all those You know, it's kind of a it's kind of a little stadium blitz So you can the stadiums really building built up if you go in the construction cam it's getting up there It looks like PSLs are pretty much a reality. I don't think anybody thought they weren't a reality It's now it's your feeling. Oh I've your ticket holder. I'm not yeah, I It's a long and illustrious career of me talking about the PSLs way back when they were going to the West Side Stadium. First of all, I think they're just the way of life right now. Sports are big enough. People who got the money, they can charge these things and get away with it. And since it's become kind of the new thing to do Yeah, there's no way we're out of it. Now the question is... Explain it to the people. Okay, to the people. The people who may not know what an actual PSL is. What does it do for you after you buy it? A PSL is a personal seat license. And it's done in two ways. There's two sides. So one side of it is to raise money for the people building the stadium. So what they do is they take out of the 80,000 seats, they'll take a set of seats. That's the end of the video. you know generally the premium but going up until the upper decks and they'll sell you as a one-time license into the new stadium at a personal seat license and you will pay at a one-time cost of anywhere from a couple hundred dollars up to multiple thousands of dollars for the rights to purchase the tickets now people say well is that what happens with season tickets actually know As a season ticket holder, I have the right to buy them every year, but in essence, I can't sell that right. So they don't have no marketable anything. They don't go from A to B. I can't transfer them without penalties or without fees.
03 Jake: They don't want to do that. I don't have the right to do that. Now with a So, that's the downside with the PSL, now I own that right. And then it becomes a free market affair. If I bought them $1,000 10 years later, and this is generally all the PSLs, I think the Ravens, the Houston, the Texans, the Panthers, the Bears, the Eagles, all them PSLs. I think even the Bucks, I'm trying to rattle them off. That's probably did it right? No, they didn't. So, I'll talk about that. So So the personal seat license gets you the ability to resell them on the market. So since I own the license, I can resell it. So if I bought it for $1,000 per seat when the stadium opened, then in five years maybe I could sell them for $2,000. It's not a stock or a bond or something that guaranteed, not guaranteed, but it could fluctuate and yes, your ticket, the value could go down. The other downside to them is that they glass the life of the stadium. or the life of the PSL. So the license might actually only be for 30 years and if the stadium, if they decide to rip down the stadium and build a new stadium next door in 25 years, in essence they could say well now you've got to buy another PSL. So it's not forever. So it's kind of a strange thing that way but you know when we talk about 30 years from now you know at my age now you know that's a long time and I'm not really that worried about it. So this is the pros and the cons. So, they use it as a way to raise money. It gives you the more control of your seats you get then to sell them on the open market. You do have to pay a one-time fee, but then you own the rights to get the tickets every year. So, let's talk about the Patriots. So, by the way, the Jets are building, I think it's a $1.8 billion or $1.4 billion stadium. The Patriots built in Foxborough, they built, I think it's a $350 million stadium. They built it right next to their old Foxborough stadium. game. The Gillette is now next to Foxboro and they built it basically in the woods. I mean, Foxboro is the woods and they built it right next to it in the parking lot in the woods. As opposed to building it in a swamp. Well in a swamp or in a metropolitan area, you know, the cost of steel, you know, there's all those things that kind of go up. And you know, some people would say, and I've been to the stadium, that maybe there was some, it wasn't built to the highest level of that it could have been. and I personally have been to, like even the Dolphin Stadium has better screens and it's, you know, 20, 30 years old, better screens and video display than the Patriot Stadium. That's pretty much brand new. Now they didn't charge PSLs. You say, well, that's a great deal for the fans, right? They didn't have PSLs. Well, actually on the flip side, if I go to transfer the ticket as an owner, I can
06 Jake: the and Um. There's an article I put up every year on Jet Kingdom about this, but the FCI is the fan cost index. Basically what it does is it takes the cost of beer, the cost of hot dogs, the cost of baseball cap or whatever, a program. You must mean a football cap. I mean a football cap or a baseball cap with a football logo on it. The cost of a program, the cost of all these things are the tickets, parking, it lines them all up and then it comes up with an index like the cost of going to a game. It puts them all together. For the average person with two tickets who goes has two beers, buys one thing, right? The Patriots have the highest fan cost index. of any of the team. So, the lesson is, if you don't pay a PSL, they're going to get it back somewhere else. Their tickets are the highest price, their parking is the highest price. I mean, it's in Foxborough, and their parking is the highest. I mean, also... You have to drive. You have no choice. And it's a nightmare to get in there. I mean, the traffic is a nightmare. It's like... Yeah, one road. Yeah, one road. It's a pain in the ass. That sucks. So anyway, so that's the flip side. So do you want to pay higher price forever or do you want to pay this one time fee that then maybe keeps the ticket price lower? So you know, I think the end of the day, it's an entertainment industry. You don't pay for performance, you pay for the value of the industry, meaning for movies I don't pay, I mean I think our movie theater in Times Square now is $12. I don't pay less to go see Kung Fu Panda than There Will Be Blood. I pay the same $12. If it sucks, I still pay $12. And if I go back the next time and if I went to a whole year's worth of sucking movies, I don't get to go in 2008 and go, why don't you go where your price is because cases. They all sucked. No, they raised their prices. It's an entertainment industry. It's got a different marketing elasticity. I don't want to get into economics, but basically, the flexibility is only what the economy will allow. The economy will and the people will allow the prices of sporting events to go way up. They just will because... people are willing to pay it. If there weren't 10,000 people on a waiting list waiting to get onto the jets, maybe it would go down. Anyway, that's kind of the long story of it. PSLs, I think, are both good and bad. I think they're basically unavoidable at this point. I think I like the idea of it. Well, you know. I think I like the idea of owning it. I own this seat, and it's kind of like my seat. Want anymore I still own it and I could sell it if I want And maybe make some money or I could keep it and do whatever I want with the tickets So that's pretty cool But see and then the traditional fans say well I already have the right to do whatever I want with the tickets meaning I can't sell them right
03 Jake: I can't sell them and I didn't pay anything to get them originally so now you're asking me to repay to get something I already have Yeah, that's the weird part starting from scratch right if it was a brand new stadium and no one was although it is a brand new Stadium though a suit could say that you say you own you actually own that seat in that stadium Right and now you have to abide by the seat and I'll see and then the last piece of this heart in the new stadium I'll two little pieces I put up an article today listing all this called Google Maps updates with new jet stadium construction Actually, I saw that pretty cool the Google Maps They've updated their satellite imagery after a long period of time and it actually now shows the beginning of construction so it's kind of cool. You can go in and zoom in to see where your seat is relative to the new stadium and zoom in and around. They actually have street view down the roads that are close by so you can actually zoom in. That's kind of fun. And the last thing, which is a is the new MetLife advertising. So the Jets are selling a thing called the Cornerstone advertisement. I find this so weird. I... Really? I... yeah. I... This is good marketing. Ugh. I mean, if I was a sponsor, I would... We can go for this. I wouldn't want to be one of the Cornerstone... sponsors. Why? Because they want the whole thing. Well, no, no, no. There's gonna be a whole thing. Yeah, but they still... But go into a modern state. Go to a jazz stadium today or a giant stadium today. Look at all the advertisers, the Verizon's, the Modell's, the... Yeah, yeah, yeah. I understand. So what they're saying is we're only gonna sell to a couple of people and which instead of buying... You know a billboard here or an ad here you're gonna buy a corner and they're calling cornerstone Which is funny because the building it's a pun, but they're buying a corner that you then have the Metlife corner So whatever it is, maybe you know Metlife gate D and it'll be the Metlife corner And then maybe all the advertising for that thing will be in that corner and then there might be obviously three or three other advertisers But they're gonna keep the amount of advertisers low because then it's not over saturation, right? So if there's only four advertisers Yeah, I mean they can also charge a shit ton more for that one then they can for whatever eggs But it takes a lot of the flexibility out of what you can do with with like collecting a number of sponsors. No, it's so much better. You have to get a lot more creative when you're only going to have like four people for the stadium like that. But as an advertiser... All sorts of creative. When you're selling advertising, the best thing in the world to do is lock in someone for a long, long period of time. And by selling a cornerstone, they're probably selling it for 20 years. So these guys have got a body and say no if guaranteed income is just like doing you know when they buy the stadium name It's probably a 20 30 year deal and that they will have to buy in for that amount of time I think it's a smart move
01 Jake: As a fan, I don't really care what the corners call. I really don't give a shit either but but you know I actually thought that's always weird. I'm sorry, you know, it's always weird about the sponsors of the stadiums is that they're always allowed to like contradict the NFL sponsors. Like it's such a weird game of like cat and mouse because the NFL themselves will have sponsors, right? Like Coors Light is the official beer of the NFL, right? With the twins and whatnot. But... you know, Bud Light might be the official beer of the Jets. Right. See, look, I always find that. See, that's the kind of stuff as an advertiser that I would be looking to lock in. Like if MetLife was the official, what do they sell? Life insurance, right? If they were the official life insurance partner of the NFL, then I would do this cornerstone shit with every fucking team and I would get everyone out of there. Just goodbye again. I doubt MetLife is like the official life insurance sponsor of the NFL, which is why they need to go out and buy, you know, $10 to $15 million a year's worth of cornerstone property at the Meadowlands. But that's why they're- but it's also much more regional. I mean, Models advertises the Meadowlands, but Models doesn't advertise in other stadiums because they don't- care. It's a right. It's a regional thing. I think MetLife is much more regional. Funny, I thought, yeah, I thought MetLife would be a much more, I thought actually they would be a good candidate for the naming of the stadium. So I was surprised to see they went for the corner. Who names it? I mean, that the problem is going to be a shit ton of money. It is except for in a bad economy. So it's going to be hard to get the city groups and the IBM's and the Whatever, I mean, there'll probably be some financial. Yeah financial giant Merrill or Morgan or I don't know someone like that I mean won't be city because these think about it. You're in you're in a Huge city, you know the biggest metropolitan area now in in the in the country If not, you know, maybe the world but you have this opportunity I wish that they could have done something with the Super Bowl because it would have been the biggest. Yeah Well, someday we'll come in. Ah, they're so stupid, these pussies play in the cold, you fucking pussies. They play in the cold two weeks earlier, please. I know, I know, I hear you dog. Oh, it might rain. It might rain on porters. So that's the state, well it might rain on those poor people who think that it's, you know, this is just a media event, not a sporting event. So that's the stadium news. We've got a 2010 kickoff. It's really coming. and I mean I just I'm excited for kind of like the lead up to it and even though I'm gonna have to end up paying I mean well if it's outrageous I won't pay it, but if it comes and it's reasonable and they're talking about making it over a period I'll be in there But the fun will be going to the last game at the metallands and then going to the first game at the new stadium And those are kind of like Moments in history right who was at the last game the metal and what was the score? Who did you play and then the first game with the new stadium were you there? Yeah?
01 Jake: I was there. I was at the kickoff. I was tailgating for 25 hours before I camped overnight I'm uh we might have to pop we have the podcast from the part-time we able to guess I'm actually going to the last regular season game in Yankee Stadium history, so maybe I'll be able to go to both. That would be pretty cool. That would be cool. What's this Yankee thing you speak of? Oh, this baseball team that plays in New York City. Oh, really? Oh, that's cool. Baseball, that's the sport that was popular at one point, wasn't it? It used to be America's past. Oh, God. That's really cute. Yeah, I heard La Crosse was really big at one point too. Anyway, still is. And then in the related, and I guess this is the sadness that we're coming up with, you know, the sadness of the news or the tiniest little tidbits of news in the jet kingdom here is J. Cross. Big old J Cross is now no more a part of the New York Jets front office. he's been uh... he's i think what go but you know yeah whatever i mean okay what's funny because he was leading you know he was leading the the big west side stadium a thing in the new stadium so i can't stop was to get all that done and in fact didn't get done right couldn't get the politicians turn, couldn't get them to go off to the Westside Stadium, couldn't get the switch over to the Queen Stadium done quick enough, and we ended up going in partnership with the Giants, which I think is best for both teams in general now, but I mean that Westside Stadium would have been sweet, although talk about PSLs, the PSLs on that thing would have been just outrageous. teaches. I mean, that stadium would have cost us. Yeah, right. At that point, you own a piece of the stadium and city. Yeah, but it's $1.8 billion for one team. I think the new stadium is $1.4 billion for two teams. I mean, think about just the economy of that. The Jets would have just had to come out and either ticket prices would have been insane. You know, $30 beers. I mean, whatever it was, it just would have been. Thank you. It would have been insane. So, yeah, bye-bye J Cross. We hardly knew ye. I think that's it. I think that's all the news. We're basically waiting for mini-camps. It looks like the rumor is that the Jets opening day camp will be on July 25th, which is a Friday, because it's always the last Friday of July. So it's basically not... I'm not saying anything that isn't already kind of. something you can figure out yourself. So that should be fun. We'll probably have another podcast somewhere in between maybe the end of June maybe Middle of July somewhere in there. So hang in there for all you out there. Head on over to Jet Kingdom of course post in the forums read up on the news. We will be posting from now until then. We'll post some news tidbits as it comes. And I think that's it.
00 Jake: Do you have any last moments, last thoughts, last little tidbits to give the Jet Kingdom faithful which is growing in leaps and bounds on the podcast? Oh, I just can't believe that. No. I think that's like a thing now. You always set it up like a big, here's the big moment. here's the big final thought and then I just Crap it Yeah Every time every though it's coming every fucking time I should have something for that and every time you crap it. That's it I just want to say as we always just gotta go jets
