00:20 Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast, longest running New York Jets podcast., ever. I'm Jake and joining me for 273 times in a row So because this podcast knows about the other podcast but the other podcast doesn't know about this podcast I will say if you want to hear the story of why we have like casting for about two months that's in the other part. Justin: No, you know what I'm saying? Jake: Like this is save all that time. That's true. It's there. Right. Like you got it. And most people with this podcast know about the other one. Or if they care. Is that true? I don't care. The point is they don't care why you and I haven't been podcasting. Right. We haven't. But it's your fault. Justin: And if you want to know why, go ahead. I think we determined it was about 97%. Jake: 97%. I backed off that and said it was probably closer to like 80%. But unlike the other podcast, this podcast isn't called... Yeah, kingdom we could this is just during the season it is weekly Oh, no, if you look at how many we did this year. No, it's pretty fucking close Well when you go like five and eleven or whatever I think that's what we should say we should guarantee as many episodes as wins For the season and anything after that is a total bonus, right? Total bonus total boom everyone we used to do to a week when they won or that the Monday pod and then like Just right after the win which was like blowjob City and then would be Monday would be blowjob City And then like the Thursday Yeah, right another blow jibber and then we talked about the next game right and we win that game Cuz we were good that was back in the like Sanchez era Justin: Remember when we were good and had a quarterback Jake: I actually said to a jet fan the other day, We know we have a jet fan? Well, we now have a mutual jet fan in our life, which is kind of funny, that we both know whatever at work. So we were talking about it and although we would all die a thousand deaths because we're trying to talk about, okay, the quarterback situation, and this fucking sucks, we'll talk about it today. But Who would be a good...what you need is the vet who has no...he's not trying to start. He knows he's not going to start, but he's good enough to start if shit hits the fan. But he's like a mentor, he's been in the system for a while, been on a bunch of teams can help explain coverages and here's what you do and here's how you pick your nose and
03:00 Jake: rub it on somebody. And honestly... and Justin: and Jake: and I was like, because he, it's not a lot of money. I mean, he, I got cut in training. When they get like- You talking like the Mark Brunel guy? Well and now he's a little older. Mark Brunell was not gonna come on the field. Like, if he did, we would. Well, he would. Right, but yeah, that wasn't it. Justin: But we need that. We need a Mark Brunell. Well, do you know who's actually out there who's like a Mark Brunell-ish guy? No. Don't say Tony Momo. Jake: No, a former jet. Former jet second round draft pick. Who's still in the league? Clemens? Kellen Clemens. Wow, I nailed that one. Still in the league. But no, but he's someone who's never had any real experience. But he's had real experience because he's been on lots of teams. But Mark Brunell actually started. Sure, Marnell was It's something as long as Sanchez is known the field. I think he would actually be good and again Justin: R. Why do you think that? Why do you think that he's like Why do you think he would be a tutor or mentor or is even now? He's always a Jake: like a defender of. Of him, but he's not been able to like he hasn't been able to win jobs. He lost the job this offseason to Trevor Sime.. Seaman Seaman couldn't beat that guy for a job where the job was not to even win it was to not lose right? They caught him right? Why wouldn't they just keep him if they had Seaman and He was a young guy and Lynch was a young guy. Why wouldn't they just keep him around? Justin: Clearly that's not you know why I know he went to Dallas and did you know whatever cuz they have Elway Right, who knows better? So really the reason is... No, because L.A. is a quarterback. L.A. is not in practice every day like that. He's not sitting in the quarterback room.
06:00 Justin: The president of the organization. He's not sitting in the room with the guys. , wouldn't you want that guy, that Jake: So what I'm saying is, again, not going to happen for the Jets because of the history, but he's the right character. Because he's not a guy who's like, he should at this point, no, he's not a starter. Right. He's not starting. No one is going to go after Sanchez and be like, you're a starter. No, I want that guy though. I don't want the guy who thinks he's a starter. I want the guy who knows he's not a starter, but has experience. But the guys that we keep talking about, these fuckers around the loop, they're all like guys who think that they could and they could be starters. I don't want that guy. Because he's not a starter because they're shit. They're Fitzpatricks. They're just like five years before they're Fitzpatricks. That's who they are. Justin: Who are you talking about? I don't even know who you're talking about. What's the word on the street? What's the scuttlebutt? I don't know what you're talking about. Ugh. Can I name yes a guy from the box you have to go look like Glennon Jake: Yeah, Glennon. This the one that I don't want. First of all, this neck's too long. Don't fucking have a quarterback with a neck that long. This doesn't make any sense. That's funny. All right. So while we've been away, uh, we've had... We've had, I guess, really, I put any questions, text to the Super Bowl, because I think the Super Bowl hit three things for me. First of all, it was painful to watch, I mean, painful to watch as a Jets fan. But I actually rewatched it. This is a Super Bowl, I went back a week later and I rewatched the whole thing, like, soup to nuts, and really enjoyed rewatching it. And I was texting you going, Thanks for watching. Even rewatching this, I cannot believe that what's going to happen happens. Like, I am stunned. That was one thing. Two, is there any history or any question of whether this is the greatest dynasty ever? Bill Bell checks the greatest coach to ever, coach ever. And. Brady is the best quarterback that ever played the game ever. No question. There's no question. I mean, you cannot question this anymore. Justin: You can't name a team who's been coached by the same coach and led by the same quarterback who won. Titles this far apart and have been good the entire time. Jake: Right. There's never a dip. Never dip. There was one dip is the Kellen Clemens here not Kellen Clemens That wasn't even a dip. They went 11 and five. I know it's not even like they dipped and even Brady missed four games this year
09:02 Jake: it didn't matter right, but they never dipped and They've won Super Bowls like 16 years apart and Justin: Yeah, they've been extremely consistent. They've been really, really good. It's been a shame that they're in our division because it's been like almost unfair. Jake: Well- It would be nice to have them in someone else's division destroying them every year. But I thought we got really lucky back in the late 90s - when they took the Colts out of our division and they realigned and they went to like the four divisions as opposed to three. right when they drafted Peyton Manning and it was like thank god I see that motherfucker twice a year well it's good for those ten years that we had time to see him and they won 12 game. Guess what? You would have seen Bradian Manning four times a year. Good luck, assholes. Justin: I mean it would have been fun. But it would have been good because they would have played each other twice a year for every year. I mean as it was they played each other every year because they always won. They always won the divisions. But... played every year ever how to happen because I don't believe that a great comeback but sort of what not not first of all the Super Bowl you can almost come out of it of a course not the worst That was the worst Super Bowl ever. Not that the Giants wins one. No, no, no, terrible. Yeah, but dude, that was 17 years ago. I know, but like, chill out. Just go back over the last like five to 10 years. Both of the Giants Patriots Super Bowls were a maze ball. They were tight the entire game and they came down to the last three minutes of someone making some crazy-ass plays See ox Patriots the Seahawks Patriots was a crazy good Super Bowl the Steelers Cardinals was a crazy good. Jake: Carolina was terrible. OK, but I'm not last year, but I'm but dude, I just named like five Super Bowls within the last 10 years that were all amazing. Justin: As a matter of fact, this was the largest. This was the largest. The six points that the Patriots won this Super Bowl by was their largest victory in all of their Super Bowl wins. The six points. So every game that they've played in has been a good Super Bowl. I mean, remember that San Antonio Holmes catch? At the end of that game, you're gonna be like, oh, that wasn't the greatest, I mean, the greatest Super Bowl ever. They're all, all the good ones are good, Jake: all the shitty ones are shitty, and that's kinda it. There's two things. One, the comeback. is again watching it.
12:01 Jake: It was a great comeback, but the first half of that game was a snooze fest. No, if you want a Falcons fan, it was a snooze fest. Justin: This team came out a complete snooze fest. It was like this game as a as someone who's watching this. This is boring. This team is kicking that team. Jake: But I don't watch just the first half and then fall asleep. Justin: I'm telling you the first the first like 45 Jake: I wasn't even gonna come back on the podcast and tell us what what's better than this one Justin: So we need a whole bunch of them. Okay, the two Giants ones that they beat the Patriots were better They had that fucking helmet catch game Jake: I'm talking about one there's catches in this game that were just as amazing. But what wasn't amazing was first of all overtime That's to me it was amazing that we actually had an overtime. I know Over time is what makes things exciting. I know but you're talking about like the fact that a team came back Yes, and for that reason the entirety of the game was better. Yes Statistically they had a they had at one point they had a 0.04% chance of winning at one point It was like so did Trump No, no, not four seconds before the election he didn't. I'm just telling you, there are games where the entirety of the game was so tense through Justin: the entire game. I agree. As opposed to this where it was just, it got tense in the fourth quarter. No, it got- Jake: And it got into a game. It, no, it was tense throughout. It just was one-sided. Justin: It wasn't. you It was like, wow, this team's getting their ass kicked. Is this really happening? Jake: It's right. And that's amazing. And this team was playing so well. I just don't think it was the greatest people ever. I could argue that there were a handful in the last 10 years that were just as good. Not just they could be good, but they're not just as good. Justin: They're just not I mean, do you remember the end of that game the San Antonio Holmes catch that catch They become like didn't have to come all the way down from then and what happened at the end of the half of that game With Harrison down the sideline and that is some sick shit great What's the play you remember from this game? Jake: I don't I don't remember one play I remember no like a moment because there was there was Play after play after play that could have gone one way and they didn't it was like Again, you're thinking about a super bowl as one moment. Oh catch on a field I think you know I'm thinking of it as as a whole and then saying whoa remember that Super Bowl Justin: Holy shit Tyree with the helmet catch. Oh my god plaques go with that thing and they sacked the shit out of Brady at the end It was like you know, there's a whole thing to it and thinking about the Super Bowl is all about these magical moments. This had a magical comeback which was fucking impressive and depressing to watch at the same time while rooting against them but at the same time being like... Yep, not even surprised. Jake: Like, it's like two touchdowns, two point two point two two point conversions. And they did the they pulled the old the old Brady's
15:02 Justin: going to pretend like this got snapped over his head trick. I don't know that play that they always used to run and run that. Jake: I'm going to say they're all very good. but what gives us the plus one in my book. is overtime because that's a level of excitement that has that takes it to the next level. It's like holy shit we're actually going into overtime after 50 of these games one of them is going to go to overtime and it just happens to be the greatest comeback ever in the history of Super Bowls against what we didn't think was going to be that way and just and the collapse of one team and the decisions and anyway I really like it. This one I will, I'll go back and rewatch it a couple Justin: times. Now let's talk about speaking of Super Bowls. Speaking of really awesome things. So are you gonna go, like how are you, Jake: are you like in a, are you in like a neg mode or you're gonna get positive, super positive? Super positive. Super positive. Super positive. Okay. Justin: So we're talking about the jets, right? Jake: No, I'm talking about being a Patriots fan. In that case, I just jerked off all over the place. You just sat in my puddle. Black butter is what we call it. Yeah, my puddle of butter. Butter puddle. Hashtag space butter puddle. Space space. Yeah, the space in it. Justin: Space in front of a hashtag. Jake: Fuckdard. Justin: You just hashtag nothing. Jake: Brock the cock does that Brock the cock speaking of Brock the cock speaking like the dumbest things ever that's my Glennon my Glennon's the next Brock the cock Please stay the fuck. I know who I want Let's talk about cuts so it started off with Clady Qlady, Giacomeini, and Folk got cut on the same day. So let's talk about those three. So that's your starting left tackle, your starting right tackle, and your kicker. Kicker don't care. Don't care. I actually think that people are going to be cutting lots of kickers because kicking is a changing game now. And I think you're going to be looking for kickers to do... Actually be better at one thing like the the extra point is gonna be something that people are gonna emphasize They're gonna go after kickers who could actually kick that because there's so many of them were missed That's so many games. Hey in the Super Bowl. That's why they had to go for two twice Not once twice again amaze balls and the guy that guy's great, too He's like the best but he missed a couple this year a lot Yeah, so what but watch jiggers have been cut like guys get cut cuz they can't make these Kicks. Right, but like game winning kicks. It's like god damn it you lost it like it's like on the kicker when you lose the game by one When they've had like a 48 yard well, folk lost us at least a game. We lost us the first game. Yeah The first game of the season was on him. He missed an extra point and he got a kick. And I think I think kickers, although there are some kickers who are just good, they've been because it's good, although I was watching Raiders game this year
18:02 Jake: and that guy was missing kicks. And the Kowksis like whatever. He was not that good, but he was kicking. He was missing them left and right. Yeah, he's I feel like he's very like flippant about it. He's like, yeah, I'll just. fucking stand here and if it goes in, it goes in. Justin: He doesn't really care. He's like drunk. So that's OK. Jacomeini. Well, Jacomeini. Fine. Goodbye. Thanks for holding later. Yeah, I saved some money. But he didn't look. He was a three year deal. This was his third year. And it's like you didn't work out. You were hurt. You were hurt a lot in here. And you. Jake: weren't great when you were on the field we gave you a shot and that's it goodbye later and we drafted a guy last year in the fifth round, Snell I think was his last name, who started the last couple games and showed some promise and they obviously liked what they saw on tape and they Justin: said right you got this fifth round pick who's gonna be here for the next bunch of years let's let's let's coach him up right he's the starter that's it. Clady was just a bad experiment. Oh, Clady was a again was a low risk high reward Give you a two-year deal. The first year is gonna be approve it The second year is gonna be you know be where it's gonna balloon and if you it wasn't even that much Jake: It was like 10 mil for a left tackle if they're any good You keep him. But he couldn't stay healthy, which is basically the thing. Even when he was healthy, I don't remember him being like... No, he wasn't good. He wasn't a good left tackle. So we have a huge hole there. Like we need... Ijalana, I don't think is the answer. We have a hole at left tackle. Let's put a pin in that. Justin: Then we... Then we cut... Jake: Our longest tenured player and probably one of the more popular and well liked and will, I believe, end up in the Ring of Honor, Nick Mangold. Definitely Ring of Honor. A Ring of Honor guy, All-Pro guy for a number of years, Pro Bowler for whatever that means, a number of years. All-Pro I think is the more really like the thing you want to be. Justin: He was the best center in football for a stretch and he was cut. So we are down 3 average line. like what you would project to be the starting line, three of them are gone. They did re-sign Winters at right guard and Carpenter's still there at left guard and I think Carpenter's actually an excellent left guard. I don't think Winters is that good. We'll see you next time. I don't know why they re-signed him. Maybe it was just cheap and he's there and he's dependable and whatever and guys develop. Cause we've seen guards of ours go off and end up like being really good. Like Slauson has been very good after we've sort of let him go. Somehow or another, Vlad Dukas is a starter for Baltimore as like was known as like having one of the better lines. I don't know how that happened.
21:00 Justin: But whatever. So, yeah, mangled's gone. That's the end of an era. He was I think he was drafted in. Jake: Oh boy. Oh, six. With D-Brick. With D-Brick. Yeah. Oh, six. So he's six mangled. Twenty five. D-Brick was four. Four. And mangled, I don't know. Justin: But that's a heck of a draft. When you can draft a center and a left tackle who basically combined miss less than a handful Jake: of games over the course of their careers with you. And I will tell you right now, I wouldn't be upset if in our draft we went back and replaced both. Yeah, I mean, again, that's why I put the pin in in the left Justin: tackle because we just lost the center. Now, we believe we have the replacement on the roster. Right. With Leslie Johnson, who stepped in because Mangold was hurt this year. And he was declining. He's on a decline. He was. And this is where as JET fans, we have to be. little bit more honest with ourselves Jake: when we look to our our Dynasty to the north and what they do they get rid of people while they're on their upswing They get rid of guys in their prime. That's what no, I think they give it to the guys They'll be ready to hill here. They'll get them right before they hit the top no one can see what you're doing But yeah, they'll get rid of guys like right here before they have to get here basically. Well, yes Right, so they believe in the ability of their coaching staff to get the most out of the players that they have on their roster. Justin: So like Jamie Collins being like the best linebacker in football and they trade him later. Because he got the most value. But also guys who stick around for longer time like Vince Wolfirk comes to mind right he's still in the league. He is still playing and he's still good and he's still on one of the best defenses in football in Houston. Right. But they're like... Yeah, you cost a lot of money, dude. So goodbye. Like we got rookies behind you that are ready to go. So we have to embrace, I think that works. Like the next example is the same deal. Reavis was another guy who is, Mangold's not even plateaued. Jake: He's... Justin: going down. Right. He's gotten hurt more recently. His numbers don't bear out. They're not. He's not nearly as good as he once was. He was once great. He is now average to below average and you can't pay a guy for past performance. You have to Jake: pay for what they're going to do for you in the future or what they're going to do like this year. I think the only problem with the argument of you got to do what the Patriots do have to do the Patriots do well. But the argument against that is you can do what the Patriots do if you have the other personnel on the team. But we just said that we think that they have the greatest quarterback ever to play
24:02 Jake: the game. And it's easy to say, well, you can do this with these other players and what you're going to do in defense, what you're going to do in offense, what you're going to do with these because you have that. Justin: And yeah, I don't think it's I mean you're pointing at the quarterback specifically. Yes,- Jake: I think it's not him. I think it's the other guy. It's the coach. Right. that Malcolm Butler. Justin: Like, you know, okay, later, Reavis, because we have Malcolm Butler, who was undrafted, by the way, and started the year, like, their players get better as the year goes on, because they're coached really, really well. Jake: Yeah, that's right. Justin: It's like coach these guys up, make them better. Now they have to play to get better, but they also need to be coached while to get better. Jake: But again, I think if you have a you have this foundation, then it's easier, easier to to play around the pieces around the foundation when the foundation is there. Yeah, but they were isn't there. Justin: They would have won. They would have won. What did they go, 13 and three? 14 and two, something? I guarantee you they would have won 12 games with Jimmy Garappolo. No. Guaranteed. Guaranteed, whatever. Why? Jake: No. Why? They went 3 and 1 to start the season. One of them he didn't play in. Fine. They still won. Justin: Like the point is the coach, the system really, really works. I agree, but I can't. I'm not going to discount the fact that Brady's like the greatest quarterback or whatever. Go to play the game. Fine. But at the same time, the coach is actually better. He's a better coach than Brady is a quarterback. How about that? that motherfuckers won more rings than Brady yeah I know all right move on next Jake: one this is not the Patriots podcast I'm just saying all right Rebus same deal he was he was definitely on the line he's done all this talk of the safety move to the safety it's not in the main right they made then they made the not emotional move right and they cut him Justin: They saved 2 million bucks on that side. He's got offset language on the $6 million contract so we can recoup. Look, you know, he's going out there and he's going to make at least 6 million bucks. He's not. Or he's just going to retire. Like he's not going to play because he's Rivas. Jake: He gets paid. He plays the system. Right. And he's looking at last year's tape. It's going to be hard to say, hey, look, I'm so. Justin: Great guy, like I'm still going to be able to cover like he's not getting number one corner money He's gonna get number three corner like he's gonna Be a guy who adds depth and can still play and can cover like a number two guy or guy That's not so fast, but like I don't know his his abilities were just not there. He was really slipping.
27:02 Justin: Like, no names were just crushing him and then when he went up against real deals guys, they were just killing him. Jake: Eating him alive. Not even real guys. Well, AJ Green, like week one, just murdered him. Justin: And then week two he gets just completely toasted by some no name on the bills. Every week it was like who's gonna toast revus until later the year when he's just started playing about 400 yards We didn't get toasted, but he'd just give up right ten yard pass ten yard pass ten yard pass ten yard pass like dude What the fuck? Like you used to knock that shit out of the air or you still like bait people into throwing pics to you Jake: I mean, he wouldn't leave it. I mean, not like it was very weird. I mean, we've watched this before, so I have the same feeling as when he was cut before, although he was there's a different part of his career. But this is it. This is a tough one, too, from from a fan like. Like, it's just it's just it feels bad like it's like with these guys like when. I mean, Curtis Martin retired, and so he felt that. Justin: But yeah, and you knew he was retiring before this. Jake: You kind of knew like this is just there's just guys that you like you. You see of as the part as the Jets, what makes up the Jets, what makes up those jerseys you look around, what makes up the like, you know, the guys on the Jets and then. Reavis was in an off its last because he's kind of gone back and forth. But like mangled is I mean, talk about the center. He's not only the center, he's like the center. Justin: He's definitely I mean, we did cut to Ring of Honor guys. Right. Mangle and Reavis are both going up in that ring. We'll see where we this lands and his for his retirement. Jake: He'll be in that ring and he's going to retire as a Jack and go into the Hall of Fame as a Jack. Yeah. Yeah. I think it's kinda questionable. No? Oh good, if he does, that'll be awesome. And then today? Officially today, or was it last night? I thought it was last night. I think it actually hit officially, that I got the notice today, but the last night was the rumors. Brandon Marshall, who said this would be his last stop, but I have to imagine he thinks he's got at least a couple seasons left in him. He's 33? Yeah. Justin: He's got some seasons left in him. Yeah, he's a big dude. He's still a good red zone target. He doesn't have to be speedy. No, he doesn't. He's still a huge target. Jake: You know, there's a lot about his decline this year, right? Justin: Last year he said- With the quarterback play. Two years ago, he said records. And Derek Decker. Jake: Look, he can't, clearly he can't be a number one and the only guy out there with a shit quarterback. With a shit quarterback. So he needs a 1A like he had with Decker. Right. And they made Fitzpatrick better than he was. Yeah. And without Decker, he was merely average. Right. And he was able to be taken out of games. There are some receivers that you literally, as much as you try, cannot take them out of a game.
30:00 Jake: But you just can't. Like, you can't take Julio Jones out of a game. Try. It doesn't matter. He'll make a circus catch wherever on the field. You can't take Odell Beckham out of a game. You can try, it's not the game. You probably could, but it's not gonna work, right? You can't take certain dudes like Antonio Brown, you can't take him out of the game. Like he's gonna get open. They're gonna find ways to get him open. Didn't happen with Marshall. Yeah, but I just don't know how much of that is. You know, how many times we were actually in the red zone where he became valuable. How many times was... It's just terrible. Watching games, you know, when you're there it's easier because you can see what's going Justin: on behind. He's totally bracketed. Like, I mean, he's there bracketed, so he's... sure, he's pulling attention away. But there was no one else to really like if you did that and Decker was on the field you're done Jake: Especially if they're on the same side of the field, right? You're completely done and they have competent quarterback We all get to get back to quarterback. All right, so the one that I think is The one that do you think there's more coming? Well, there's rumors around Decker and that he's not going to pass physicals and then they'll cut him at that point Yeah, I I had heard when he heard himself last year and read some things that He's likely not gonna be ready for this season. Right? It was his hip And his shoulder. All right, and he had one and then another surgery Marshall's the one that I think Any other rumors just before we go back to not that I know David Harris sort of imploded out there I don't know if that's a good idea. Yeah He's got a lot of money though. Yeah, but I still don't know if that's a good idea. He's still very effective I feel like that's the one we can replace somewhere else. Well, we have replacements on roster, right But there's another like you could have more depth in there in the draft somewhere. They cut Aaron Henderson. We didn't list him. No No, not Aaron. Henderson He did cut him Marshall's the one that I think The team so I did the team get worse on the field with mango leaving I don't think it took you know, not a dip down be this he clearly was a liability didn't fault You know, he missed kicks and was missing things. Let's not dig full too bad He he was he's a dependable kicker for a long long time and he still was But you can get kickers. Yeah, I think Marshall is the one that after last year and watching not last year, but the year before. And I said this on the podcast a hundred times and I'll say it again, I have never seen since maybe Kishon, but I've never seen that kind of just raw talent at wide receiver in a near jets outfit. Well, I've never watched out tune play that's your problem clearly but that season alone the the the
33:02 Jake: Interception strip and recovery the behind the happy he had he was bad last year Yeah, he was but he was dropped a lot of balls and I and I think there was I think last year was a cancerous locker Room led mostly by the defense. I think they you know, it's one of the reasons you could say Justin: both should have been fired. Let's put it this way with Marshall. I think our team got worse. He just got worse. But he's always worn out his welcome. Yeah. Wherever he's been. But usually from talking too much. And he's never made the playoffs. He's been in the league too long to have never played a playoff Jake: game. Yeah but...meh. Alright. No. Like that's a thing. Does he go to the Giants? Justin: I don't know. He goes wherever the fuck he wants. Jake: I mean, our buddy, who's a Giants fan, is like licking his chops. Like, he won't... They don't need him. Well, I actually do. They don't have a big, big guy. They have Shepard and they have Beckham who can jump over anybody. No, but that's not a thing. That's not true. Um, the one thing is the... It isn't strange, but he does tape here in New York, and I wonder if he'd be like... He does. He does his show. He'd take a discount to stay in New York. He'd be good on the Giants, no doubt. Right, well he'd have a competent quarterback going to him. Eh, that's debatable too. No. Not two time, suitable winning quarterback is not competent. At this point in his career it's debatable. You'd chop off your... They just had the nut to have Eli Manning on your team. I'd rather have Tony Romo. Two years ago... Oh, you're fucking stupid. Right now? Well, Eli's not that good, you know? He has like these streaks in him. Yeah. But he's not that good. But he is... The quarterbacks who have won multiple Super Bowls is a list of ten. He's on the list. I get it, but that makes you do they score more than 20 points in any of those games Justin: It doesn't matter. I know he's good. I know he's good in the clutch and he's great in the fourth quarter and all that fun stuff but you know, they like They they're they're their offense is fucking terrible this year. They want on defense like good run for all for all I couldn't do anything Jake: They never scored they averaged like 13 points a game. I blame the do Justin: Not a down. You got this offensive head coach and you're scoring 12 points Jake: You scored seven points in a playoff and they're keeping them in love with them. I think it's weird All right. So let's talk about so that's the outs Do you think there's others you said decker? I said maybe harris. I don't know Who the fuck is playing corner on this team? We're talking gill crest perhaps. Yep Uh, well, we have a rookie You mean Burris? He's going to have to play a McDougal perhaps. Some of these young guns. I like McDougal head. Screen's not an outside corner. He's a slot guy for sure. He's not on the outside. I think Marcus Williams is a free agent. I like Marcus Williams, but I don't know. Maybe they'll go out and spend some of his money there.
36:02 Jake: Saving up. Saving up, right. Well, that's got a corner. That's sort of the point. I... I feel like corners are one of those positions that don't always necessarily translate from one successful one year to the next year. Justin: You're right. They got to be in the right system. You have to know that what you're playing and you have to know that they can play it. Because we've seen... Well, we watched Rebus go to Tampa and not have a great season and then come back and go to the Pats and be put in a man-to-man system and be like dominant. Jake: Right. Or Josh Norman who went... Like, was he like a dominating guy this year? They might talk about it. But that's like, yeah. Justin: But it's like, you know, if you took Richard Sherman and just plopped him on another team, I don't know if he's that good. No. Because he plays one side of the field Jake: and he plays into cover three and that's what he does. Like, I don't know. Oh, can we talk a little bit just back? Sorry. Playoffs. Playoffs? Exactly. Good job. It was the worst playoffs I've ever witnessed. Yeah, it was terrible. I think there was one good game. Is that Chief Steeler's game? No. No, which was the good game? Dallas Green Bay. Oh, right. Dallas Green Bay was the best game. Fucking unbelievable. But did that make up for the weekend of weekend of watching four games that were just... Blowouts. Blowouts. Blowouts City. Everywhere. Not competitive. Did it? Justin: Like, I know, like trying to talk yourself into Houston maybe beating New England like that was right, right? Like trying to talk yourself into the Steelers maybe beating New England like, oh they can score. Yeah, no, they actually can't not against that team. Oh, it was just such a terrible. Jake: That first weekend, that first weekend, which usually is good. Like the wild cards is like, just like that, that hunger. And it was just surprising how, how easily Atlanta got to the Super Bowl too. Justin: I mean that was a bit surprising for me that after Green Bay ran off this fucking streak We didn't do anything right? Jake: It was bad bad, but that but I think like yeah, I mean that Cowboys game is really good Justin: Who's amazing the Cowboys versus I mean Aaron Rodgers? Jake: I mean, it's like you want to like he was great. He's really great I think I think Dallas is going to be fantastic for years to come. Well, they've got they've got a nice combination there. A lot of the chins. They've got they got a night line. They have a quarterback quarterback and the fourth round pick. That's the fucking key right there. And they got, well that's the Seahawks way. That's the secret. And then they got a running back. Who? I think jury's out on him. I've seen running backs one year just tear the fuck up out of the field the next year, turn into pumpkins. True, but he's got a line. Do it for years, you get an answer and show it to me.
39:00 Jake: He's got a line that's really good. Young too, that line's-good and young. And the quarterback can play, so it's a threat. And you got Dez out there, it's a threat. So the running game, it's like, what do you want, pick your poison. That's gonna be a good team. I'm gonna be waiting for you. Waiting last, can't be that much more. It might be done. Yeah. That is. It's no one gets open plotting. Oh, so slow. Dopey Ball. All right. So let's talk about. Big and dopey. So well, let's talk podcasting. First of all, the draft in April. So we will definitely have one or two podcasts before the April. Leading into the draft. But let's let's talk about sort of. Free agency opens up. Was it- a,-, A combine is going on now. Free agency opens up. I think like the end like middle of March. Let's see. Free agency is coming soon. Soon. It's like next week I feel. And like when can you start negotiating? I think it isn't the weekend before. Isn't that like? Um, Brandon Marshall. All right. So here's the top 100 in the free agency. Where are you? Uh, I don't know. I just went to some website. I'm not going to be able to Like this is an article about... Oh, here Justin: What do I wanna do in free agency? I would like to do what kind of players do you want to get free? Jake: I want two kinds of players right cheap better players. Okay to fill holes and gaps and I want one or two like first time hitting the market study That's what I want. Like the guy who's ranked number two here. I feel as though this is a guy that we should draft or that we should sign his Kaleis Campbell because of his because of his background with bulls. And because we need a veteran studying influence in that defensive line room. Right. And I feel like it's sort of a game where like I feel like Sheldon needs to be flipped. He needs to go. Sheldon Richardson needs to not be on the Jets. Right. Trade him. Right. Get a second rounder. Get whatever you can. Get a second rounder would be amazing. Get a third. Do whatever you got to do. Go sign Go sign Kaleiis Campbell for something modest. I know he's ranked as number two, but he's not he's like 30 something so so I Feel as though this is a guy who could Help in that line in that room as a studying influence and work alongside Big Cat and Mo and like fit right in and be with the system and and be a dude who can really who could really play
42:09 Jake: with the guys that we have. Justin: So like that type of player and then I'm looking. Jake: I don't like this theory though. I don't like that theory. No, that theory is fine. I don't want the, if this team is in a true rebuild, which it kind of looks like they are, right? We have no starting quarterback. No, we don't. We have running wide receivers who are mostly undrafted on the roster. like starting right receiver right now who could actually play was Quincy and new one that's your number one um Justin: yeah best guy on the team yeah but you know what you gotta you gotta have have a bit of faith in the fact that Jake: there were some young guys that played last year that got a little bit of experience totally right like Trump peak yep and Jalen Marshall. Yeah, I'm Marshall was a Devin Smith kind of had like an injury year Justin: You know come back from the injury see what happens Like you got some younger dudes in there that could that can maybe play Jake: um But you know, I I would like to see them them sign You know maybe a corner a guy who can play in this system Which is typically a man like a man-to-man type of guy like come man Morris Claiborne is sitting there. Yeah, I just think you're starting if you're starting if you're wide receiver core is I don't want that. No. Right. So like, all right. Well, I mean, can you filter this thing somehow? Like, I don't know. Well, that's the sort of point. So I don't want. And if we're in a true rebuild, which I don't think the team will actually do, true rebuild means you just take your lumps this year, you go in, you get young guys and you coach them for a year. You don't worry about your, the win loss ratio. You don't worry about the head coach and you just go in the near jets. Don't have the ability to do that. They're not that type of team. They're very much too much worried about the fan base. They're in a media market that just choose teams alive. I don't think they can ever do that. So what they tend to do is try to like reboot every year and solve the problems in the offseason with these like the Matt Forte type of thing or bringing in you know bringing in Some old washed-up quarterback who could maybe play a couple more years. and oh we'll try to do it, we'll try to make it work this year. If you're really doing a true reboot you just have to take a clunker. and not be trying. Justin: Yeah, but you need guys to like play. You can't, you can't, you actually have to fill a roster, Jake: that's like a rule. Yeah. And you have to actually pay a certain amount, right? You have to hit the floor.
45:00 Justin: Yep. So you can't just have like 17 undrafted free agents on your roster and have a salary of like $42 million. Jake: So you said before, let's start the argument because the dumbest thing has ever gone out of your mouth ever. Because I think this would be the galactic fucking global mistake. And remember, I was right about Ryan Fitzpatrick. Let's not forget. What are you what are we talking about? That you think we should go after Tony Romo? Oh, that's not the quarterback who I think that we should. That we should actually really go after. OK, who is it? And please don't say Cutler. No, no, no, no. And please don't say. Uh, alright, that's it. There's only two of that. No, no, no. I think we should go after Kirk Cousins. Oh, that's right. You're following- you've already fallen well with that. He's fantastic. He's a winner. Not a clue. Not a playoffs. He's a- him and Brandon Marshall- Don't win the playoffs. He's a winner. He's won his division. He threw for 5,000 yards last year. Justin: Yep. That's a lot of yards. When Fitz threw for like 3,900 and set a Jets record, it was like, what? He's setting the world on fire. This guy threw for 5,000 yards last year. And it's not like he had the greatest receivers in the world. Pierre Garcon's OK. Deshaun Jackson's Just fucking chucked it all over the place and they won. They were winning team. Washington's a winning team and they won the division the year before with him. He's a guy who was a sit and wait. He's a sit and wait guy who got his chance finally and took it and fucking made something of it. Jake: He's gotta be like 27, maybe 28. He's perfect. He's the perfect guy you'd sign now. Yeah, I just think you're hitting the guy who's... You're hitting the guy you're paying for his best performance. Dude, he's gonna be good for a long time. This is the like, Miami didn't sign Drew Brees and through the whole... And through their entire... franchise into a tizzy for 10 years because they had a chance. Okay, so last year he threw for so shit ton of yards not 5,000. How many? 4,900. Justin: Oh, okay. Jake: Okay, so not 5,000? Not 5,000. Yes, that's right. 4,900 even or what? 4,917. Justin: Oh, okay. Jake: So, okay, got it. But here's a, you know, his... So he's about a quarter away from 5,000. But his TD to info for all those yards, Yeah. He threw 25 TDs. Okay. That's not a lot. Yeah, but that's not a lot of CDs. It's not a lot of throwing touchdowns, but how many points do for fucking... Justin: How many points per game did Washington score? Jake: I don't know. I don't have it for me. Justin: That's actually more important. Jake: Twelve interceptions off a 25 touchdown. The twelve interceptions is not a lot. If the hat is high. It's not. Twelve interceptions is not high. For 25 touchdowns, that ratio... Justin: Fuck the touchdowns. Forget the ratio. Oh, fuck touchdowns. Jake: How many attempts? He's throwing for 5,000 yards. How many attempts?
48:02 Jake: 606. Yeah, so he threw 12 picks in 606 attempts. That's the ratio, my friend. And only 25 touchdowns? Justin: How many did they run for? I don't know dude. How many points did they score? It's not about always throwing the touchdowns. How many did he run for? You know what I mean? Like it's not always about how many touchdowns do you throw for. It's how many points did you score? Jake: Who cares how you score them? Rating 97. That's pretty good. Percentage 67 fine Fine, that's gotta be in the top five in the league. No, no, no Justin: He's a west coast guy and we just signed an offensive coordinator who runs a west coast offense. He'd be perfect Jake: I'm gonna wreck it. Stack rank. Stack rank. Can you stack rank them already please? So he was third by and I've seen these. And he's 13th. Great, throwing touchdowns. How about, well, because you know who number one, two, and three are? Rodgers, Ryan, and Breeze. So those are pretty good fucking quarterbacks. But hold on, hold on, hold on. What do you want? Time out. Time out. Time out. Justin: Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. What I'd like to do is. God damn, this is fucking terrible. Um, no, I want to do... This NFL page is just the goddamn worst. So Washington, just in terms of total offense, yards per game, third in the league. Passing yards per game, second in the league. Jake: Where the hell is the like, why is this, these stats are fucking, this page is so bad. That's all stats page, it's so, so bad. Ryan Tannehill had a better compil Derek Anderson had a better. Yeah, but that's a guy who played like a play. I hear you. Dan Bradford, 71.6, didn't play a play. would you not just get a quarterback that's of age that could be six or seven years and just get him? Like you said, you put the rock in the middle and you build around it. I just don't think he's the rock. Why not? I just don't think he is. I don't. I just don't think he is. I, I don't disagree. Well, I know you disagree. I think he's excellent. I think you're going to hand him the Ryan Tannehill deal. I think he's at the of course.
51:01 Jake: 60 million dollars. Of course. 70 million dollars. He's better than Ryan Tannehill. He's better than Ryan Tannehill. Justin: He's a hundred percent better than Ryan Tanneh. I mean, why, yeah, a hundred percent. Jake: Don't let the low touchdowns, the low touchdown rate. It's a low touchdown number last year. You're talking about like touchdowns, Justin: but you're not talking about total points. Right? I mean, you're really just talking about touchdowns. They were 12 in the league. Great! That's great! That's in the... that's above the... you're- you're in the top half. Jake: Right. Passing, they were second. So they passed the shit down, but they didn't throw... they didn't like score touchdowns passing. Clearly. Justin: Who cares? He threw for 5,000 yards. You're moving up and down the field. Jake: But, okay, but you're not throwing for touchdowns. Justin: Who gives a fuck how you score? Jake: You know, you realize it's a little bit off with the odds. He threw all these fucking things, but then doesn't score more than 25 touchdowns. You're talking about one thing, throwing touchdowns. And then interceptions, 12 is high. 12 is not high. 12 is high. 12 is not high. Okay. All right, we're gonna rank by interceptions now. You're gonna get a bunch of backups with zeros and ones and then you're gonna have to sift through that to get the guys who actually played. I'm gonna go from the most down, Rivers with 21. Winston with 18, it's Patrick with 17. Wake Bortles with 16. . Eli Manning was 16 who isn't very good. Brock Wallace while. Justin: Well, according to you. 16. Jake: Who isn't very good. And he's like way. Drew Brees 15. Joe Flacco 15 had a terrible year. Mark, Mark, Matt Barkley. Well, fuck, how do you feel that many? He started. Cam Newton, terrible year. 19 touchdowns, 14 interceptions. Carson Palmer, 26 touchdowns, 14 interceptions. Carson wins. 16 touchdowns, 14. It's a bad ratio. Justin: Wait, wait, wait. Carson wins through 14 interceptions. Jake: Yep. How many attempts did he have? 379. 379 attempts. Yes. For 14 interceptions. 379 attempts. Yes. All right, how many did Cousins have? For 12, yes, 406 attempts. 406 attempts. Oh, yeah, sorry, I mean the wrong column, sorry. Carson Wentz, 607 attempts for 14 touchdowns. Got it. Right. How many yards? Three, seven, 3,700, 3,800, rounding up. Got it. And then Kirk Cousin, 606 attempts, so one less attempt, and 12. 12. Right, that's a pretty good ratio. I don't think it's that great. Why? I don't know. Why do you think that's not great? I don't know. I don't think it's- That's 600 times he threw the ball and only 12 were it intercepted. I don't know. I want the quarterback to throw 38 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.
54:02 Jake: Guess what? You can't have him. No, I want him. Well, you can't have him. I want him. But you can't, because it's impossible, because no one's going to let him go. You have to strike when this happens. It doesn't happen often. I want the one that throws 23 touchdowns and four exceptions. Guess what? You can't have him either. I want him. You have to draft a guy. 28 touchdowns and two interceptions. You have to draft a guy, or you have to get lucky. I want the guy to do six touchdowns and six interceptions. We have that guy. Justin: I mean, in all honesty, Fitz was well above him, right? He had through like 16 picks. 17 picks, yes. How many attempts did he throw? Wait, wait, wait. Jake: Let's go back last year to last year's amazing Fitz year. The year of amazing Fitz. Sure, amazing Fitz. Okay. Justin: Where we actually won 10 games and should have won 11. Jake: then. Ryan Fitzpatrick still threw 15 picks, but 31 touchdowns. Right, but 15 picks in how many attempts? Uh, 562. Right, so less attempts. Yeah, but the less attempts and more interceptions. 543, roughly the same, and 11 interceptions. Not 35 touchdowns only 29 Fitz didn't throw 35 either. All right, Ryan at 31, right? So that like comparable there But like better well, but okay comparable to Ryan Fitzpatrick We know the pumpkin who had his best season and the best season that a Jets quarterback has actually ever had which we know is Justin: Terrible, which is like, you know, not as good where Kirk cousin got better Fitz got way worse. So you're in a, you're all in on Kirk Cousins. All in. I've been all in on Kirk Cousins for a long time. Jake: No matter how much money, no matter how much whatever. I think he's a franchise quarterback. How much? Justin: Whatever the fucking rate is for a starting quarterback, just pay him. Jake: Well, isn't he gonna be paid like $27 million if he stays like the one year or the? That's his prerogative. Justin: It's also Washington's prerogative to tag him. So they can tag him again and pay him a billion dollars and that's their prerogative. Thank you. I mean, he basically has them by the balls, because they're either paying him essentially two years, $50 million if they tag him again, and then he's a free agent and can go do whatever he wants, and that's guaranteed money, $50 million in the bank, or he uses that money to bargain against Washington and say, yeah, I'm not taking anything less than $27 million guaranteed from you. because you either have to tag me and give me that money or you're going to give me that money or I'm going to leave. So he has all the news against Washington. Not really against us because the threat of the tag isn't there. Jake: and a.- the a
57:07 Jake: Yes. Did we have him for like, no, no. Matt Moore, you're right. Matt Moore is that. Drew Stanton would be another guy. That's the guy we had for a day. That's the guy we had what we were thinking about. We had it for a day. Fucker. The other guy that we had for like, that never played for us was Byron Leftwich. Remember, we like signed him. Oh yeah. And then he just couldn't play. We'll see you next week. Right. having Brandon Marshall with this great quarterback, the team's better. Justin: But guess what? We're gonna have a brand new system. They brought in a new offensive coordinator who has been with the Saints. So you know he's got a good offensive mind. He was their wide receivers coach. I'm sure they talked to him and they said, what do you wanna do here? And he looked at him and he said, don't need him. I'm gonna go with Richie Anderson. I don't need, I got a big guy in Jerome Peak. He's big, I looked at the tape, he can catch balls up in the air. I got a new one, as strong as fuck, and can play in his fast and can do things in the slot if I need him to. I got this other guy, Marshall, who can play in the slot, can go deep. Devin Smith, who the hell knows, whatever. But I feel like it's a similar type of system that it's that west and west coast style that would work. Jake: A lot of like, you know, you're going to see a Jets offense that looks very skinny. I- haven't seen that since like the Pennington days, right? That was a true like west coast Paul Hackett offense look very schemey right like a lot of movement a lot of like Justin: do a lot of misdirection to get that one guy. I feel like they've been over the last, you know, morning wig was supposed to be that way but it didn't work out. It was a lot of like, just, you know, I thought the gaily offense would work. Because it was designed to be very simple Jake: and it was very simple and turned out it was maybe too simple. Like, defense is like, oh, I see what you're getting at. I got it. Yes. Justin: Watch the tape. Got it. Got it. Got it. And we know young Rex used to cream us. Right. Or creamed us. And we used to cream them because it was like, I know what you're doing. You're throwing it in six yards over there. Jake: You can't throw it deep. in this system. You don't do that. You don't do that well. So I'm not even going to cover it. I can throw it down the field if you feel like it. It's never hit guys long. It's always martial, like going up and grabbing the ball out of midair somehow.
1:00:02 Jake: So you're feeling good. I actually think these moves are moves in the right direction. To me, they give Justin: confidence. They show confidence in the coach. to coach young players and make them better and do his thing and make it into his locker room in his culture. Jake: I think if you're a Todd Bowles fan, which I don't know, you know, two years. Towards the end of last year I was not. Oh, you wanted him fired. Justin: I totally did because I thought he made bad decisions, but... I think he was hamstrung perhaps and now you're seeing the fruits of that. Jake: So now, so now I think your Todd Bowles fan, this cleaning of house, yeah, feels a little bit like someone saying, all right, we're not trying to just try to get better for next year. We're going to try to get better for the next two years. Justin: This smells of. Have confidence in you right this smells of I'm not firing you after this season right no matter what not a win-loss season This is this is a I gotta see if you can make guys better Right so if if you go out there and like make guys better Jake: I build this a lot of lie on me you think this Kirk doesn't say I I don't know. I've never even heard of it as a roadmap. I don't know. I don't know. I'm sort of, I'm breaking news right now. Justin: I just feel as though there's, there's an opportunity to strike and again it's, it's that same thing like when Miami had the chance to get Drew Brees. Yes. There's like second guessing and it's like, is he that good? or he just hurt his shoulder, is he really that good? Jake: No, it was his neck, as I remember. Whatever it was, he got hurt. They were really worried about his injury. Justin: But it was also like, is he that good? Because San Diego just drafted a guy in the first round, Rivers, to just sit there because Breeze was going to be a free agent the year after. So it's like, why would they go draft a guy in the first round? Fourth overall, rivers, really they drafted Manning, but whatever, rivers. Why would they do that if they have Drew Brees on the roster? Drew Brees, if you look at his first couple years, like it wasn't anything special or spectacular. But it was clear in that fourth year. when Rivers was sitting behind him that, oh, he could be really good. And of course, yes, he did get hurt and that was kind of the thing. That was the thing. It was, we're not quite sure. Jake: I think there was a Peyton Manning thing, all the Peyton Manning had a better career, but a neck injury, they're like, we have another guy. Justin: Yeah, but guess what? That's like worked out twice. Like it's not often that a guy who's this proven, who's thrown for that many yards, who's won that many games. times. Who is a winner like you see it in him like he you're just you know Yeah, but like when he's like running off the field and yelling into the camera You can tell you it gives a fuck right like there are guys a head case No, like like it's like I'm I'm the man I just won that game like sure he's had he's to me He's still a young quarterback because he hasn't started he hasn't been like the day one starter for more than two seasons
1:03:06 Justin: It's only been two years that he's been the day one starter on the Washington. He sat behind RG3. They were drafted to Gavin. I know they were. And he's definitely the better quarterback. Jake: Right, no, I remember they drafted RG3 and then it was two or three rounds later. They drafted the Kirk Cousins. He was the fourth round pick. And we're like, really? Like, why'd they just dropped another one? And then. Because he's good. Yeah. All right, we gotta get the fuck out of here. Shanahan. He knows. You're um, I'm getting a little convinced. I can convince you of this. You really would have called Petty as definitely not good. Definitely not good. Same as you were willing to fire Todd Goldie in a season. I would have fired him. Okay. I still would have gone, I would go back in time and fire him for not letting Hackenberg play in that final game. Petty to me is... He's not even unknown. He's a trending down. Well you just said that you can't even call a guy who's played two seasons as a franchise quarterback until he's played three starting seasons. This guy has started three games in his life. Yeah, but with one of the worst fucking teams on the planet, dude, you didn't show up, dude. I'm just saying. And you watched those games. They were not good. He couldn't even stay on the field. No, they were not good. He couldn't even stay on the field. But I think you're not going to go over. Justin: He couldn't even. We named him a starting quarterback and he lasted like two games. And who did he beat? He beat San Francisco in overtime. Yeah. Like that's that's the second worst team in the league with no defense He was bad. I'm saying he was atrocious bad.
