00 Jake: on on got a faster life crash your enemy driven before you you're women while the jet king asked along the and absentee New York Jets podcast ever. I'm Jake joining me across the digital aisle. Nope, across this big table in studio number 17 of our our 27 studio tour is Justin. Justin, how you doing? Good. We have to learn to be able to do like do the pre-podcast. Hey, got an idea for you. Go on. Ready for this one? Fucking game changer. Game changer. It's a game changer. In August, late August, before the first game starts, we'll just pre-record all the fucking game buckets. All of them. All, every game for the entire season. and we'll just talk about them like they happened. The problem's gonna be the injury stuff. Like we won't know if guys played or not. No, we will, we'll know. and remember when Tana Hill got knocked out of that, Justin: Not much happening. Jake: May 6th. So we, but we walked over the draft and then really it's been that whole time since now. Justin: If, if I'm going to die, I'm going to do a podcasting. Okay. I'm going to die podcasting. Jake: You, you might die podcasting. That's about passion. We podcast so much. So we're going to talk about training camp. A lot of us talk about the QB battle. Talk about some news battle. I think it's, I think it's becoming a... I think this is hashtag fake new. I'm going to get right the fuck into it. I think they're doing the, we're going to look better than they look and we're going to push what we want to push, which is we want this kid to start. So we're going to be like. Look how good that kid is. Because every time they get to the mic, they can be like, yeah, he's really progressing. And then they- They haven't said shit. Justin: Yeah, yeah. Todd Boulds doesn't say things. Jake: The reporters say things. All right. So let's talk about that. We'll talk about some other news in the NFL. And maybe talk a little about, you know, we got some preseason games coming up. And then we'll talk about some Vegas bats. Vegas, baby. Tom Brady, term 40. Downhill. He's a- Motherfucker. Justin: What do you think Tom Brady gets for turning 40? Like what is what is Tom Brady at like?
00 Justin: Super Bowl ring. I was thinking like Giselle like what what is like the 40th birthday? Jake: Situation don't go there. No, it's it's explicit, but it doesn't have to be like that explicit Okay, I know you've been holding all this back. I really I'm hemmed up. It's a little like 40 year old Tom Brady. I'm hemmed up Oh, other thing we should talk about is the jet Kingdom pick them and The jet Kingdom fantasy leagues. That's still a thing. It is Every year. It's a thing Alright, so let's get to it Justin: I will know how to spell League. Yeah, me too Jake: Uh, so that just happened. All right. Listening to us talk about being in the dog is wonderful. Let's, oh my God. Let's go. How much have you been following training camp? Justin: Let's be honest. Zero, zero, zero. No, that's not true. I opened up my Apple news app every morning and I have the jets as a thing. and I look at it and I just read the headlines and if there's something interesting, I look at it and otherwise I ignore it. So far, not too many interesting things. I will say I read a little bit of an article how they had a terrible practice yesterday. Today is Friday, August 4th. I think my bank came out for what, four days? Yeah, it was like the fifth day or sixth day and they had a day off the day before so they came out real, real flat. Sounds like Quincy Anoon was a bit of a leader on the offensive side of the ball. I like that. Which is nice to see him step up. You know I love Quincy. And it sounds like Leonard Williams is going to be like a big time leader on the defensive side of the ball but more of a quiet, I'm going to kill you in your sleep type of leader. Jake: Do we need to talk about, didn't we, we've picked up some players in the last three months? Not really. Well, we signed that, uh... Justin: We've caught a bunch of guys since we last talked, I imagine. So let's hear it. I don't know, I don't know when we, like, when we did certain things. Jake: Brandon Marshall's gone, that's fine. No, that was way longer than that. We did the draft, remember? Sheldon Richardson can't wait to play the Giants in the preseason. So I said this in our little internal channel that only three of us have access to on the planet. But I'll say it on the podcast. I really hope that Sheldon Richardson comes out and has just worn those. Fucking crazy like first four games and then we just trade him like just that's what I want to happen I want him to come out be like amazing and then I want to trade him out Justin: But what if he comes out and is amazing and we're for now? What if the defense actually is like really good Jake: Think about that for a moment. I will for four no fine. Don't trade him Because then the defense actually could be really good. There's you're gonna be young
01 Jake: They're gonna have moments of brilliance, but they're gonna have a lot of points. They're not that young Just the safeties are young and the linebackers But they're there they've played in the league. They're not rookies Wait, the two main linebackers are our second year guys And Damario Davis is a veteran and the other guys have been in the league and have started. Justin: Damario Davis who traded for like a bag of peanuts. But he's on the team now and he's back and he's replaced David Harris who's a Patriot. Oh, that happened. That's a thing. That happened. Jake: That happened, right? That was so obvious. Justin: Yeah, he's gonna be great for them. Jake: He will. He'll be great. He'll play out of his mind. He'll... he'll do well. And they'll probably win a Super Bowl, and he'll have a Super Bowl ring. Good. I'll be happy for him. For him, I might be happy. I wasn't happy when Revas won that ring. No, that was painful. That hurt my feelings. Revas, another player not on the team. I think... Revas not on any team. Justin: No incentive to be on a team. Offset language. Six million bucks. Someone's gonna pay him more than six million dollars for him to actually make money this year. Like, otherwise he's just making six million dollars. So it's either, do I want to play or do I want to like just make six million dollars? For not playing. For not playing. Or are you gonna pay me eight so then I get more? He's always been about the money. So I can see him being like, I'll just wait till guys get hurt in preseason and then someone will sign me. Jake: Here's the thing. I've been really... Did I say what? Oh, yes, I said the trade. I think the hard part for training camp So I've been seeing jet fans around I wear jet stuff now and again and and I see them we talk Well, I was talking to someone at a dealership today. Funny enough and I'm talking about it Justin: Yeah, well, what were you what were you doing a dealership? I went to a dealership actually. It's not a dealership Jake: They don't have dealerships. They only have showrooms any who whatever that's not know. It's fancy. That's not for my for this podcast. So It should've been funny, because I feel like every Jet fan, maybe you guys out there listening have this feeling, you just have this kind of like, we just know we're going to suck. So we're not, you know, we're not totally excited We're not tanking because that's not a thing, because you're not allowed to tank and the NFL won't allow you to tank. But we're basically going to get good with young players and be a team that's better in... better next year than we are this year. Right? Right? I think that's kind of the thing. If you don't talk about tanking, that seems to be the thing. But it had to take in my like want to be a massive Jeff fan and like go raw raw Because I remember the seasons like going into the season. Yeah, r the AFC Championship Like what you just couldn't get enough, but I'm like, yeah these like scrub savers out there It's like we got a quarterback battle. That's I don't know what a bunch of a battled is Inside the battle should be no one should be battling. I
03 Jake: don't know my my my my Temperament is lower, like my just crazy, like I want to eat up every little bit of training camp news is like it's down a little because I'm like, yeah. I can't wait to go see games. I can't wait. I think they're playing not this weekend, but next weekend they're playing against the Lions. Can't wait. Can't wait to see the quarterback battles on that. Justin: No, you're not going. Jake: It's in, uh, it's in Detroit, so no. Justin: Yeah, you're not going to the home game. Jake: No, something going on. Oh, maybe that would be there. Good. He'll be there. I'll give you the tickets to be there. Asshole. Fine. You can't be in the Titan. Oh, that's the one. You can't be in the Titan. Just at Titan. Titan's at Titan. Jets at Lions, okay, that's tightens at Jets. You're right. That's the one. The first one is tightens at Jets Justin: Yeah, you can't be in the 10 game club if you don't give me the tickets Jake: That's true But it's I can't be the 10-game club unless I get someone to go to the Jets at Giants Which that should be easy. It probably should be easy Alright, so let's so let's actually talk about someone that was I think the the biggest thing in training camp Hey, wait, when is hard knocks? Starting soon, I think like next week. Yeah, it's gotta be ready the bucks next week Let's let's sidetrack so we both watch all or nothing. Did you watch the whole thing? Yeah with the watch all of it The fucking Rams none of it all of it There was a small piece when I was watching it that I was kind of like it's a little bit interesting to see the the ends because I kind of did before hard knocks because I went to the draft and I did after hard knocks they went to the season and they had hard knocks so as a fan of football to watch to have the whole story told literally from and they went all the way back up to the draft well they went back through because they had the new coach right but so that was kind of cool but to see this whole year, right? Although not one show. But you could, in theory, watch the first episode, then watch Hard Knocks, then watch the last, you know, whatever episode. It was super cool. Right. And it's all shot by the same people. Justin: Yeah, it's NFL Films. Who does Hard Knocks? Right. NFL ultimately owns all of it. They put it wherever the fuck they want. Jake: That's what's a little weird. I kind of feel like, wouldn't there be a better show called All or Nothing Hard Knocks? Justin: it was terrible. They had a rookie quarterback thing going on. Jake: The number one overall pick, they just didn't tell the story very well. With all the music and John and Ham, whatever, in the world, it didn't make that interesting.
00 Justin: They just didn't make it interesting, is all. Jake: Well, right, because of the team that we saw when the Cardinals did all or nothing, it was like, here's a Super Bowl-contending team. This is a team that could go. And I thought the personalities were better. I don't know this was I hope they don't I hope they split it up because if you Pick a bad team. Oh, it's terrible. So You know, they had the number one overall pick Justin: Which in theory you're like, okay good bet it's a quarterback so good bet right? He's probably gonna start because they've got Kase Keenum. So that's a good bet. Turned out to be a blubbering idiot and not a good football player either. Right. We'll see if I eat those words in three years, but for now, he looks like shit. I'd rather have Carson Wentz or Dak Prescott or Jake: And then he'd throw a good pass. Like that was the thing. He'd throw a good pass, they'd get a touchdown, and it'd be like, goth, goth, goth. And then you see the final score, like 44th. 44 7 you like so basically you did nothing but that the entire game that was a pro throw Yeah, that one now not the other 40 but that one was that line 11 and 42 Justin: 411 yards One touchdown three interceptions. That was a professional throw. It's like Asterix one professional one professional throw right with seven dump downs to fucking Tae Bong Austin who had the person. Jake: He just he just no, no, no, no. No, no They had three or they and., they had three or they had three or they had lots of coaches on staff. you Two of which were ex-head coaches., one of which, no, yes, two of them, yes. It was Greg and there was another guy on the, I don't know, whatever. Oh, the assistant offensive coordinator.
01 Jake: But there were two guys who had been... But not the coordinators. Greg Williams was a... Courtney and a head This goofy, very nice guy, sorry, whoever you are, but like this goofy... Justin: It was John Fossil. Jake: It was Jim Fossil's son. I know,, special teams coach. I hear code somewhere else there. Justin: No, special teams. Jake: But he was goofy as frick and... You can curse on this probably. Oh, he was goofy as fuck. And I was just like, why did they do that? I'm thinking, okay, they're gonna get the spark. We always talk about that. We've been the team that's played the team that just fired the head coach. We've gotten a lot of head coaches fired. Like we got the Dolphins head coach fired and that after one day, we've gotten coaches fired. I think one year we got like a couple fired. Justin: Damn right. So when you lose to the Jets, you get fired. Jake: You get fired. So I was like, oh, they're gonna get the spark. Here comes the spark. Oh, watch that team come out and play. They shitted the bed. You're like, you're like and then they're, that's the other thing and they're doing special teams. They're not one other person that they can be like go do special teams. Like at that point it doesn't really matter, they should just lose, as I was like like, as I was like, as I was like, as I was like, Yeah, they wanted to lose. They didn't want to win four games. They wanted to lose those four games. They had no incentive to lose, first of all. Higher draft pick. They didn't have the first, but higher draft pick overall. Yeah. Second, third, fourth, fifth, all the way through. Whatever. Which they used, by the way, in the draft to pick up eight players. I understand. Because they traded down and picked up more picks. Justin: Yeah, whatever. But... round pick is like why you tank not a second or third or fourth or whatever that's not true second and third is true high seconds and high thirds high second is a good pick it's a great pick high thirds a good pick they didn't they definitely didn't sit there and say we're tanking I'll tell you why well I Jake: believe they did what they did I think it's cuz it's the only guy they didn't think they would get fired so so they said let's just give him a shot cuz usually that guy gets fired. So I think they also didn't want to hand it to one of the ex-head coaches or Greg Roman or whatever. Who would? Not a person? Well a person but not on that team. Alright whatever. You're the worst. What's his name? Greg Williams. Greg Williams. G-dubs. So. Well he can't be a head coach in the NFL. Well they didn't want to hand it to him. because I think he could have won two of those games and then they would have to go, well, he actually won two games. No, he can't. He can't be a head coach in the NFL.
05 Justin: Oh, anymore. Because the Saints thing ever. It's not a rule, but I think it's a perception. He's lucky to have even had a job, but he's lucky to even be in the NFL back and was the. Yeah, he was a defensive coordinator. That's great. That's what he is. He's not a head coach No one would ever hire him as a coach the bill and he got fired and that's that but they all get fired Jake: Any not all of them. I so why is the why is the reason they didn't do that? Justin: Cuz they couldn't take the offensive coordinator make him a head coach because the offense was shit It was a terrible offense. So you're taking a defense. Give me a 44 points a game. You're taking an offense an offensive coordinator off of a shit offense that's terrible and is also in the middle of grooming a quarterback which takes time and would take a lot of time away from him to go be the head to be the head coach. So I don't think they wanted to do that they just wanted to let golf play the season out with that guy as the offensive coordinator. Fine, five out of four games later. you're missing the point okay the the season the practices there were still four weeks four full weeks of getting in action like having the same guy in your ear calling the plays you can't just take a guy who's never been a head coach be like you're that coach now and like in the middle of the year you mean like they did to the in the middle of the year and be like here calling games and be calling plays and all this other not last quarter of the season Jake: Is this worth talking about? I mean, no it's not so give up. It's no I'm right Let's want to talk a little bit. So stupid. Let's talk a little bit. You know people's names I do know shit yesterday the internet blew up and so did her office The internet blew up and apparently this video came out on Twitter. Ryan Tannehill quarterback. Six years? He's in sixth year now? Fifth or sixth year? Justin: Yeah. Tannehill was in the same draft as Andrew Luck and RG3 and Russell Wilson's. Actually a pretty good quarterback draft. Jake: Really? I feel like that's one good player in like Yeah, well it was the rookie of the year I know he's not good anymore Justin: You can't even get a job anymore. Russell Wilson has won a Super Bowl Andrew Luck is a legitimate starting quarterback in the league. I don't think is won a playoff game He's been in the AFC championships ships ship Poor uhhhhh But made an answer to the question Yeah Jake: Second year or first year? No, it's been hurt a lot I actually think the Andrew Luck story is not written I wouldn't go on the parade for go get his jacket measured I mean I would take him as my starting quarterback Of course but that's... We are in the depths of hell.
00 Jake: I think most seems good. So Ryan Tannehill going out, it was like he came back, they're like, oh, he's fine, his brace is fine, blah, blah, blah. But by the end of the day, it's like he sees an ending surgery. Dunners. Dunners. Justin: Later dolphins. Jake: And non-contact. He just was running out of bounds. Justin: Yeah, later dolphins. Although I don't know. Matmore? Matmore's not that good. Matmore's not a long-term. When I say long term, I mean like more than five games solution more than five games, correct? So Matt more than five games Maybe Colin Kaepernick Jake: Well, I'm a jay cutler that caps gonna go to Ravens Because I got as a backup because the hardball connection, they talked really nice and a Flacco needs some sort of back thing that could keep him out a week or two. So they're not really sure. So they need someone who can actually come in there and maybe win a game, not just stand there and hold the clipboard, like our guys. Uh, yeah, it's an interesting cause... Maybe Jake... maybe Jake Cutler. Justin: I think the Cutler, the Cutler. Cutler could step right in. Yeah, big arm, but it wasn't even like... Jake: Didn't he retire? Well, he played last year. But he retired, like he didn't... So what? He's not just waiting in the wings, he retired. Yeah, well, so did Tony Rump. Who else is out there? That's it. No, there's no one out there. So there you go. It's not like there's quarterbacks out there. Wouldn't Tony Rump be a better option than Jake Cutler? Justin: I think Tony Romo would be more of a injury risk like you're already Down one starting quarterback and this guy might actually get knocked down and be told almost a better option Jake: It's too bad. He did pretend. Well, he's better. He's better. He's a better player and I think he's younger than cutler Justin: No, not even close not even close Jake: Uh, I don't like color. I think he's I don't think he's good either but he's a starting quarterback in the nfl right and you were thinking like I mean, is the Dolphins like one quarterback away from making the Super Bowl? No. No, but they made the playoffs last year. Justin: But if they think they could be any good, they should call up the Bears and be like, hey, you just traded all the shit for this Trubisky guy. Aren't you gonna start him? Why don't we trade you something for Glennon? Like a pile of poo. First round pick maybe. For Glennon? Hey, why not? Because he's not good. He signed like a 70 something million dollar contract. Jake: That's because the bears are stupid. They do that. Justin: Oh I'm saying maybe they can get something back for him now. Maybe they can get a little... Jake: Where does that do the AFC? So if we're the bottom dwellers. Nothing for us. Let's just say we're the bottom dwellers. I disagree but okay. Let's just say we're the bottom goers. No, I will not. And we saw that they- Justin: You know, it doesn't make it super easy for the Patriots to win again! Again. Again. Yeah. Alright. Jake: Because they're gonna win again anyway, this just makes it easy. This is like, they just, they like can take a couple weeks off now. I don't even think they're gonna show up to training camp. Justin: They're like, hey Tom, remember last year when you didn't play the first four games and it worked out great?
00 Justin: Let's try six this year. Six games like you'll be so rested by the time we get to the Super Bowl. That's right Jake: And this other doofus quarterback or whoever we throw back there we can train him away for everything in the world Yeah, because everybody's asking about him Justin: Garoppolo stupid, maybe maybe that's it. Maybe they know Garoppolo is not that good. So it's been three months Jake: We've listened to a lot of information. We've read information on the interwebs. I don't read shit We had make up my facts. We have tweeted. They're just twice a year Yeah, I don't it's now been three months We hear Jamal Adams is the real deal. So we've heard we've heard But ready to die on the football field. What are you thinking now three months later? about the number one issue for the New York Jets. First of all, what's your expectation for the season? And we're not gonna do record, because we're gonna pick that record, you know, in our big picks episode coming up in probably like three, four weeks. We pick every game and we pick the Super Bowl and all that. Justin: We pick every NFL game, all 200-some games. Jake: No, we pick every New York Jet game. Every football, every every touch down, every week. It shows you how on the, you know, on the just idiot scale, like when you go like 13 wins and I get to that's fun. Uh, where are you on that sort of quarterback battle slash expectations for 2017? Like my expectations are high. legitimately high do the whole thing and do the right for crying and Justin: I wasn't good get used to it they're always gonna be that way uh no I think the defense has a chance holy fuck what is happening I hope people are is that part of the people actually are hearing it so they don't think I'm Jake: crazy moving some office furniture there's a lot of crashing and smashing Justin: out the baby a lot of crashing and smashing all right keep keep talking Think the defense has a chance to be special They have solid veteran players You know, they have rookies they have speed Jake: They can be really good. Don't you think our secondary is still gonna get torched this now? No, just because a lot of young young guys Justin: I think Adams is better than anybody who played in our secondary last year probably based on just seeing last year based on nothing I know about Adams having never seen him play I still believe he's way better than anybody who played for us last year okay at any position in the secondary but it's like prior couldn't cover right anything So there were lots of things that were open because he either turned the wrong way or fell or like something. He fell a lot. Yeah, he just finally tripped over the 40-yard line like he would just fall. Fucking over Hoffa's grave.
02 Justin: So based on that, based on the defensive line... being better than they were last year, my anticipation at the very least that they'll be better. My hope is that Wilkerson will return to being like Wilkerson and stop taking plays off and you know, dilly-dallying with the bullshit with the contract. Like you got it dude, now play. And... Well he didn't dilly-dally the contract last year, he was actually... Lee being a year older and like stepping up to Mario Davis coming back. He's... probably a better fit at this juncture in their careers than David Harris was. I still think Harris was good. I just think, you know, Davis is faster. Jake: It was a money future thing. The team is clearly going money, youth. Yeah. Maybe in that order. And you know what? Justin: I don't think the offensive line is all that bad. I think Blahal Powell and Forte can play as running backs and we'll just have to see what happens if anyone can get open for Whoever's gonna be thrown in the ball. I just I just hope that the What I'm feeling is that the defense is gonna have a little swagger about them There's gonna be a little thing there that they're gonna bring to each game that's gonna keep us in games and the idea would be to go back to like the oh nine ten recipe of Hey, we're not out of games. Like let's just not put ourselves out of games. Let's be smart And i'll be stupid if you had Jake: Camarti revus out there and secondary. I might feel a little bit more Justin: Yeah, I mean fine. Carmarti, Revas, whatever was shut down. It's really just Revas. Jake: What was Revas? Right. Revas, old Revas. I just see our second. I know there's not a super corner out there, Justin: but by all accounts, Justin Burris is in his second year. And he's ready to walk. By all accounts, he's in his second year. He didn't let me finish. Jake: Rumor has it that Justin Burst is in second year. Justin: He's in second year and he's ready to go. He's like a ready to go starting caliber cornerback. That's why they drafted him. Yeah. Jake: I have hopes. Build them up. Start them. There's just the holes are bigger than the... The holes are standing behind the center. The holes are in the secondary. The holes are behind center. And the holes are in the wide receiver. Justin: I disagree on the secondary. Jake: I disagree wholeheartedly. So the second year guy who did you're missing this on one player, Justin: but who's the other player Buster screen Buster screen? Marcus Williams. They're still there. I'm just waiting to play. They're just people. It's not true. Jake: They can play look at them on the thing last yesterday and go last year and go. Oh my god. Thank God Buster screen Williams are out there. They can play ball. They're not like they're not complete scrubs. Justin: Be ball. Do you know who got burnt last year? Dorell Reavis. Yeah, they got he got a lot.
01 Justin: He got burnt long a lot. Jake: Right. Deep. Over the middle, shit deep. And get ran by. I know. And then he stopped getting burned because he just started playing 15 years off. Right. I think shit's going to stop. We'll see. I agree. But it's not like we have like, it's not like we have a long way to go. We were in like the 20th defense or something. It's like, we weren't, it's wasn't like we were dirtiest and we're going to go up to top 10. Justin: We thought we were going to think we were that bad. I think we were better than that last year. I don't think so. I do. We have some rookie receivers. We'll see how they do. Jake: That's the wrong peak does rookie receivers whole secondary hole. Quarterback hole those are two those are three. I don't see the secondary as a whole. I'm sorry I just don't get it. I just don't get where you see all this like rookie Justin: Second year guy what and to buy just watch the fucking Falcons make the Super Bowl on the strength of their defense being awesome Yeah, what happened to them in their dream? They lost who cares because but they made the Super Bowl and their defense was awesome The offense got all these accolades Jake: But they started like four rookies on defense until one accounted and then they couldn't stop any but couldn't stop a nosebleed Guess what they lost to the greatest fucking quarterback to ever play football that happens that happens They made the Super Bowl though and their defense was awesome. Didn't they fire the defensive coordinator? Yeah Someone has to fall on the sword for that Justin: Awesome, they were they were awesome by all accounts. They were awesome till look it up. They were a great deep until they weren't. You're so stupid. You make like until they weren't. Wouldn't you love to see a team play in the Super Bowl? And lose? Yeah. No. Jake: That would you... I've heard that's one of the worst things. I've never gone through it. Yeah I know you haven't but wouldn't you like to see the Jets in Justin: the Super Bowl? In the Super Bowl? Yeah in the Super Bowl. On the on the strength of some rookies on defense. Mean great listen, I know it sounds ludicrous because they have Matt Ryan and Julio Jones and all these running backs and all that shit and And their offensive coordinator got hired as a head coach clearly, you know Shannon had a thing going their defense was really strong their defense was really it's really good and it was on the backs of second year players and first year and rookies. That was their defense. Great. All young, fast, speedy dudes. And that's what we've got going on right now. Jake: I think I'm a little bit more show me all these young, fast, speedy dudes than just say they're young, fast, speedy dudes. Yeah. Let's go take some time. Let's see what's going on in week 10. Yeah. I was at week 16. They'll be good. Um, Yeah, my expectations for the season is very low, but I kind of like it that way. Like I enjoy having low expectations because then it means every time we like do well,
00 Jake: you'll be like, yes, we beat the Browns. Yay! Like we'll be excited by small wins. I mean, ultimate dream is we find, like the only thing I want out of this season. One way or the other, and my whole thing that is, I think the whole way this season could go terrible is, if we don't do this one thing. There's only one thing we need to do this season. Either get a franchise quarterback, or find one. That's it. Because if until we solve that puzzle, we're not going anywhere. So we need to get one, meaning we lose out and we pick the best one in the draft. Or we find one, there's one on our team who's not 37 years old. I'd like to think the guy's on the team already. Justin: We did spend a second round draft pick. Jake: I know, but the amount of second round draft picks that become the franchise quarterbacks is a small number. Justin: Then it's pointless to even draft him. Jake: Well, I'm not saying it was the greatest draft pick. It has yet to be seen. They had this plan. I do like this about the Bulls administration. The plan was we're gonna redshirt him and for everybody yelling and screaming whatever they didn't just throw him onto the fucking wolves. They didn't see him in a half quarter or half game when there was no fucking line and the whole team was just tanking and there was such bad chemistry in the locker room that he could have gotten killed. They stuck to their plan. So now it's like okay you did what you said you're gonna do. You stuck to your plan. You redshirted this guy. Now don't fuck around. Now you have a new team, new attitude, you put that kid out there and he fucking plays from day one and that's it. Are you ready for Petty still? Just out of curiosity? I don't know, Petty sounds like he's doing bad in training camp. He sucks. All right, maybe he sucks. He just sucks. Maybe we can trade him to the Dolphins for like a few footballs. I mean, I do like a hack attack. Justin: Like we could. trade but i'm ready for petty petty to the dolphins for like a handful of footballs and Jake: like toilet paper for our next trip to london but if fucking mcgown is anywhere on the field ever anything doing anything i'm gonna flip my fucking wig be ready for him to start week one that's just fucking ludicrous You don't trade away everybody on the planet and then say, he gives us the best chance of winning. Because all those players you just cut and traded and just got rid of, they gave you the best chance of winning. Fucking this team would be better. Week one with Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker playing. Eric Decker, I agree. I think I'm sour on Brandon Marshall. Not as a player. Yes, amazing player. He's a great player Justin: But what he does and says inside the locker room matters too and he's alienated himself Jake: Then in every cell the should have been cut a well as well Justin: Maybe he's not that bad in the locker room as he's made out to be oh my god Jake: He in every interview is a total dick you've seen him do an interview. I have terrible, but Justin: Maybe what right maybe what he says
04 Justin: behind closed doors. You're making shit up. Well, Brandon Marshall went on record this year already now that he's on the Giants. Of course. Talking shit about how he wouldn't have even been able to play on this Jets team. Jake: Yeah, fine. Says the man who's never made the playoffs. Is he not true? If you were a wide receiver, would you want to be on this team? Justin: Maybe? Jake: No, you wouldn't. Justin: I don't know. Are you kidding me? I mean, basically what he's done is gone out there and taught some shit. Jake: Yeah, but that's always what he's done. Justin: That's nice when he's on your team, but when he's not, it's like fuck you, dude. Jake: Right, but I don't care what it is. That guy was some of the best talented receiver I've seen on this team. And we said this while he was playing, and when he was at his peak, it was stunning. This team is worse off without him. So if the whole thing, this whole McKown thing, this is why it's totally logical and stupid. If the whole thing is, we will do better and win more games with McKown starting, he's the best chance to win, then you fuck the whole thing up. Because if the best chance to win was McKown, then you could have had, then you know what? There's other quarterbacks out there that you could have gotten that would have given you a better chance to win. So that's the whole point. You didn't pick up McCown as the best chance to win in this season. That's fine. Let them say what they want to say publicly. Great. Then start fucking Hackenberg. Like, he better start. Now what I do like is that it's looking like all the reports are coming out. Hackenberg's kind of on an upward swing. He's doing good. He looks beefier. He's like, he's like, got his foot worked out. Footwork down. So and I I think that's kind of getting into the media and it's kind of like perception is reality as soon as the media and Perception of the fans is he's doing better guess what'll happen It'll be like everybody like oh he's doing great great, and then there'll be no reason not to start him He'll win the job because oh he sound he looks so good I don't know. So that's it. I just... If McCownstarts is the most ludicrous thing on the planet because... And they'll say, this is what they always say, just like Jeff Fisher before he got fucking fired. He gave us the best chance to win. No, it wasn't the whole point of the season. Your little joffy dude should have been out there. He might not have sucked towards the end of the season if he had some more reps. He was terrible. Terrible. He was bad training camp. I mean he lost the job. That's the thing. Justin: Like he was giving the chance. We watched Hard Knocks. He was given the opportunity. But he was... he didn't know how to call a fucking play. You watched it. I know. Jake: You can't have him start a game. The other guy would just sit around and wait. You can't have Justin: him start a game. You call in the play and he's sitting there in the huddle like duh. Jake: Everyone run fast. All right, let's talk about some Vegas bets. I was in Vegas, I made some bets. I made some for you too. Justin: Yeah, me too. Jake: What did we make?
00 Jake: One of the odds. Do you remember what the odds were? I don't fucking know. I gave you money, you bet it. We both bet the over and five wins. First of all, you didn't give me any money, but nevermind. I did bet it though. Justin: We both bet the over and five wins. Jake: Yeah, I think I was meant to take the under, but I took the over. I guess I don't like to bet against my team. Justin: We both took the Jets getting six and a half to win week one against the Bills. I'll take the points. And we both bet the Jets, I think, at 200 to one to win the Super Bowl. Jake: Yes. It's good odds. It's good odds. Good odds. It's $2,000. Yeah. $20 bet. Justin: I think it was a $10 bet. Jake: I think I gave you two. Two $10 bets. Justin: All right, cool. Jake: Yeah. Fine. Fine. Fine. Whatever. 50 bucks. Gone. I can't. Gone, baby, gone. It's gone already. All right, let's talk about some upcoming games. Really? Yeah, well, I mean we're gonna come back and do another one before these upcoming games Justin: There was a game last night. Yeah, what how wise Cardinals you watch it? Yeah, I watch them in the first quarter and we're in we're very it was very difficult to watch the I mean it was really hard to watch because I mean nobody played yeah so it Jake: was when is this when is this ever been a thing it's always been Sunday the Hall Justin: of Fame was always the first game this is this was the Hall of Fame game what they were Thursday I don't know why they did it Thursday but they did it Thursday and it was funny because it was on NBC so it was like a Sunday night football production And. On the outskirts, like in the corner, they set up like a makeshift booth where Nance and Romo were working. They were like working on. Announcing, presumably. Well, they were they were not on TV. Jake: They were like pretending. Well, they were. Yeah. Justin: I mean, they were getting like getting a rhythm together. Like they were they a, favouring. probably recording it to watch it back and critique it at some point. Jake: So but we actually have a preseason game coming up. So we're probably not going to podcast before then because we have travel. We're traveling again. I feel like the people with this podcast like you guys travel a lot together. We work together. That's why we travel a lot. Justin: Yeah. We're in the office. We're doing this fucking. In the office. Jake: It's the God chicken, it's the guy she get to say on the fuck day. You said office earlier. I said s-
02 Jake: We have new cuts rules now right this year. There's new cut rules one cut one gun insane It's like a briss just boom just just do it So we don't have those weeks of cuts So it's kind of like that'll actually be a great hard knocks episode because the whole episode just be cut cut cut cut cut Justin: You're cut you're cut you're cut you're and then watching them get now we got to go guys right? Jake: It's gonna be it's gonna be a lot of signings like Justin: Do you have a prediction on like a sort of left field cut for the Jets? Like a dude who's like on the team been on the team maybe for a year or whatever Jake: Um, I've got one. You got, all right. Well, you name one that I'll go ahead. What do you think? I'm looking down a list. I just really want to go to like here. Here's how I'm sorting it by age. So. Won't cut him. Won't cut him. Won't cut Tannum Purdum. Won't cut Josh McGown. I wish they would I really wish they would I know it's terrible It's just one I don't want I don't want that being option. There's no option. It's like you play your guys. That's it forte Justin: Big McClendon could be cut. Yeah, I was really I do it's not really necessary. They don't need him They have young guys from last year like Simon Who played fairly well towards the end of the season? Jake: I would say there are three players, four players over 30 on this. Four players over 30. That's it. That's it. Justin: One of them's like the long snapper and you, and you're like, and the others McAllen. Yeah. Jake: And who are the other two? Uh, yeah. Josh McAllen, Josh McAllen Tanner, Purdo, Matt Forte and Steve McLean. Justin: Yeah, I think McClendon might be a donor. Jake: Cow or wherever he's from. I don't know if well, I mean Jalen Marshall. He's got four years to be game suspension I'm gonna cut him. I can see him getting not on lucky whitehead. We just picked up this guy I don't know lucky whitehead, baby. He's a lucky white head boys Didn't he do some bad like wasn't he arrested recently? It was like this weird identity theft thing and then the thought the Cowboys let him go like He could be a special teams guy for us. I don't know. Alright, so let's see. Just give me some players who you're excited to see in this first game. Like what you're looking to see in this first game. So obviously I'm looking... I'm looking... ...cornerback the whole way. No shit. Justin: Super excited about that.
01 Justin: Who are they gonna start? Yeah, I think... It's not gonna mean anything. I think McAllen's gonna start the game. I think he will start the first game. That would probably be smart. Depending on how Hackenberg does. He might start the second game and then you will know right when the guy starts the third game, right? Jake: Who's who I'm hoping yeah, and I don't mind that I want but I want to see Hagenberg come in and play two quarters I mean you'd like to see him play with like the starting right offensive line at the very least I don't really care who the receivers are. It's more about the line. All right, and who he practices with well I mean again, this will all be happening next week Justin: Get closer. No, I mean, I'm interested in the defense Darren Lee changed his number. He's now number 58. Okay. He took Aaron Henderson's number. Kind of excited for the Jake: The rookie tight end Jordan Leggett number 49 Kinda excited to see him. He was actually in hard knocks No, he was in all or nothing because they were shooting like the Not training camp the combine stuff and they're saying we're looking at we're looking at all the tight ends and there was like it Going across kitchen ball and I was like, that's our boy. We got him Justin: Did you like that the head coach how he came off on the show McVay? The head coach head coach of what you just said all or nothing the new head coach for the Rams Jake: Phew, he came out as a hard ass. I think he's going to be a good coach. I think he's really young. I know. And very small. I think he's going to be good. He might be good. Justin: I think he's going to be like really good. It's all about what he does with that quarterback though. Jake: I think he's a quarterback dude. Well, they were saying he's the one to turn fucking Kirk Cousins into. Yeah, your boy. Justin: That's our starter next year, by the way. Jake: Oh, OK. Yeah, $27 million. Yeah, I'm excited. Obviously the quarterbacks. I'm excited. What other player need one player? You're kind of said the defense Justin: I'm really excited for the defense. I want to see what the Jake: I'm looking to see what big cat goes out there Justin: I want to see the starting defense and I want to see them all play like I want to I don't want to see guys like taking The whole game off. I want to see this starting unit on the field for the first series Then if you want to rest Wilkerson, find Mario Davis, find some of the older dudes. I want to see them play a series and just be liked out. Jake: And actually my favorite kind of like sleeper position that I always love is the um is the running back. Like I always love that kind of like, oh we picked up a running back. The rookie running back. The rookie running back because they usually love the rookie running back because they play the whole second half. Right. And usually like a lot.
02 Jake: So it's kind of fun. Sometimes they can. So that's Elijah McGuire number 35. You love that shit. Yeah, I love me some rookie running back. Anyway, all right. And also, oh yeah, we have to talk about our podcast. We've two things coming up. We have the Jet Kingdom fantasy, which will start up again. The winner of last year, who I don't even remember at this point, will send out some notes, gets to pick a rule change. So that's fun. The question is, does it go back to the standard rules and he's adding and he's just adding one rule change? Additive? So after every year someone keeps changing the rules? Justin: Yeah, soon it'll be like a stupid league. Jake: Yeah, how about no? How about we go back to forever? No, no. Because you don't want to go back to to flat? Justin: No, it was a good it was a PPR. Yeah, but we went to a full PPR like a point. Yeah, that's PPR motherfucker. Deal with it. Yeah, I think we should go like a flat and then he can choose decimals or something. This person can do whatever they want. Jake: Well, I'm a weak man. Justin: I suggest decimals, but this person can do whatever they want. Jake: All right, we'll do that. And we also have the Jet Kingdom pick-up, so I'll be doing that on Twitter. So again, we get a whole bunch of people. Remember, we pick every week. So we always call that out in the podcast. You'll be able to do that. We'll be picking every game. We'll be podcasting as the season comes on. Remember we'll do our big picks episode, which is before the season starts. We'll pick every New York Jet game. We'll pick the season. We'll pick the Super Bowl. Avi the Jets. And that's it. And then all right, until next week or the week after I think, when we come back because the season's kind of getting going here. It's Jake and Justin saying... Let's go Jaz! You
