20 Jake: Welcome to Jet Kingdom podcast, the longest running New York Giants podcast. Ever period end of sentence. My name is Jake joining me for a many many many times in a row. I would almost call it- 316 times in a row Is Justin. Justin is Justin how you doing today? Oh shit, you caught me in the middle of a yawn I'm good. Hey, we haven't done this in a while. Oh man Like we are so not good at this. Oh, so many things have happened. I don't even think we're going to review them. We've got like fantasy stuff. Like is that even a thing? Do we even have to care? Do people want to play in the JK Fantasy League? Well, first of all, if you want to play in the JK Fantasy League, what's up if we don't hear from you? Shutting the whole thing down. Yeah, we're just shutting it down shutting it down But just but if if if people are like yeah, what the f? You can curse. I can't curse in this one cuz My little lady has found the back door to get to this podcast So I try not to also there's other people have connected the two so from now on I'm gonna try to keep this one It's explicit though. And the... I don't want to be in a half tag movement any time soon. You know what, this is an explicit podcast and the listeners of this podcast understand that and they expect it. There's too many crossovers at this point. They expect it. No, there's too many crossovers. They expect you to talk about things. Sure, I could talk about lots of things. Duck butter. Wait, what? Yes. I rock the cock. There are nicknames that have been created on this podcast that you have to be able to say. So true. But those are those are things. a cock is a male chicken. It's a thing. And Dukkz is proud as a peacock maybe? Foul related episode. Brock the cock, duck butter. Listen, these are all perfectly normal terms unless you know what they really mean and then we don't want you to know what they need and then stop downloading. Stop asking questions. Anyway, well it's been nice to be back like... Man, we got busy lives. Yeah. So now the time we actually spend together and that we don't podcast is pretty shameful. We spend way too much fucking time together doing other shit and don't podcast. So you just curse twice in one sentence. All right, that's it. That's my limit. That's my limit for the podcast. Okay. See how well that goes. It's not the podcast. It's not the cursing. I don't mind the cursing. It's the references. It's the referencing things that are on the edge of glory. That's correct. Glory hole. That's very well. There you go. Example. Was that one of them?
00 Jake: Example. overtly sexual references away from the podcast. The name calling is fine. Dude, what do you think of my shirt? All right, I will give the listeners. I need to explain it to people because I wore this just for the pod. So Justin, who is a avid listener of music and listens to every band that existed before he was born. went to the Rolling Stones tour at Mad Life Stadium and got a an official which I think is actually that part of it. It's a New York Jets Rolling Stones t-shirt. Yeah. So it says it's green, it's a jet screen that says New York Jets and then has the Rolling Stones logo or Rolling Stones logo on top of a jet screen. helmet. Yeah it's got like instead of saying jets on it has the you know the tongue. But the nice part is it is actually and then it's the new logo. I thought it was a total ripoff because you have like one that you got from from Mexico. That's a that's a like wrestler mask. Right no there's another one you got from like Cancun or something it's like elm. I don't know if I have that anymore. But yeah, I've definitely had some illegitimate stuff. Listen, my loving wife bought me an official Sam Darnold green. What is it called? Gotham green. I'm all about the branding. I've had a branding. I have the black one. No, I have the official one. I don't have the on field. I have the black one for the Darnold and I have an official on field. I have the black one for the Darnold. expensive one and are you all in on Sam none that's it those are your big jerseys well I bought them I bought the black one just to kind of have fun it was I told people we said it's not fun it was super fun walking around at the draft and just having everybody go banana sauce like just it was a lot of fun And everybody notices when could have a new uniform. It's like, Oh, that's the new uniforms. I have the new uniforms. It was really fun. Anyway, I think the last time we podcast and we can go back in time. It was podcast number 315. We, we had, we fired McCagnon. Yes. Okay. Good. Mack got the knife. And had we hired Joe Douglas? I believe we did. It was like the day of or day after. I don't think so. If you look at the notes. Like the looking at it the agenda it has joe douglas's name Maybe we were just talking about like that's gonna be the guy. Oh, yeah. All right. Well, I don't know So let's talk about what he's done. Nothing except for two things Well, he's done a couple things like what what are his big achievements? He's been here for two months Uh, well, he's brought in two new offensive linemen Sorry, make that almost two months. Yes. Right. That's it. So let's talk about that. Brought in. That's the big ones. Ryan Khalil. Ryan Khalil, ex-Panther. Yes, a 12 year veteran of the Panthers. Five time Pro Bowler, which doesn't really mean much to me. Two time All-Pro. All-Pro is everything. That means a lot. Yep. Right. Two time first team All-Pro center.
01 Jake: That's legit. 12 year career, really good career, had some injury issues. Do you know why he retired last year? Played the full year last year, played the full season, had one of his, almost like a comeback year. And I think that he had just gone into the season thinking this is my last year. And then... After he retired and when he came back there have now been articles published about him and he was just like, you know Everyone goes through this. I thought I was ready to be done with this, but I'm not I'm not ready to be done being A professional football player. It's plain and simple. That's it and the Jets We're there to pounce on an opportunity. That's a one-year lot one year eight million eight million, right? Whatever for an all-pro center, you're not paying eight million bucks, right? If you're signing if he was out in the street say five years ago He's not getting an eight million dollar a year contract nowadays. He got paid more last year That's sort of more of where so that this tune is and there's a guy we just got from the Redskins conditional round I'm sorry the Ravens conditional like sixth or seventh rounder. So I Mean, he's also traded Darren Lee Yeah, I think that happened. No, that was not him. No, he did that move. I think it wasn't you think gasted that without him Yeah, someone did that. No Gates did before Yeah, it was like four minutes also gotten rid of a couple of other draft picks I think there are like only a very small handful of draft picks left from the MacCagnon drafts. So very small. Again, Joe Douglas haven't, you know, it's just the start of this. The thing that I think you and I both very excited about and just has to be said is like the offensive line for something the MacCagnon kind of ignored for... fucking ever did he ignored it completely and and dated the shit out of the offensive line and here's what here's what this does None of this really means me I don't think a conditional seventh rounder from the Ravens who were there gonna cut they were gonna cut him and we just like didn't Want to go to waivers or yeah, we're third on the waiver and we just didn't want to miss out on this guy Who is a starter? who might start for the Jets might not but gives us really good swing depth. Totes, totes good. The thing this actually sets me up for, I'm a long-term guy. Like I'm now, I'm like I hope this is his strategy and I hope in the next draft. Of course it is. This is like when we're picking, sorry guys, we're gonna be picking right around the middle, like 10 through 20. You know, I mean just think about where he comes from the Eagles like the Eagles have Some of the best offensive line like for the last number of years. It's how they do what they do They can run they can throw they can do whatever they want And they have a quarterback in a similar mold like a guy who can move right ones can move Darnold can move. You can. A guy that you want to kind of build the offensive around and do some kind of sneaky shit. And then you've got Le'Veon Bell back there
00 Jake: that you want to be able to use. Like, you've got to be able to get him going. To me, he's the total X-Factor. Like, I can see him just being a maze balls, or I guess just being a pile of poo. The long-term vision of this team is around Sam Darnold. Because... Whether you love Belle and think he's gonna be the greatest thing ever, he's... He will never be on this team in four years. It just won't be. No, he's got the four... He's probably gonna be on the team for three to four years. Guaranteed no more than that. It's just not gonna happen. We'll see what happens with him at that point in his career or whatever. But that's what the best part of this is. I mean, is Coleole like... I don't know. It's better than Jonathan Harrison. How about that? So his experience, even though his physical ability is probably less than, than others, there is the experience factor. I think this is actually a good, let's just flip this into the hall of fame where we just watched, you know, just watch Kevin Wai go in and Kevin Wai played for a long time after, after you guys suggest, I mean, after what? After you left the jets. No. Uh-uh. He didn't retire, he didn't retire straight up a jet. Yeah, but he didn't play like for a super long, he played before he got to the jets. But then he played for a couple years after. Played for like two years with the Titans, I think. Not much. I feel like a little bit longer than that. I don't think I can look up his career and I mean you keep talking, I'll look up his career. Okay, well I was gonna say, I was gonna say, you know, it's It's nice to have another person going in as a jet. We've I mean, I went the last one was Curtis Martin. I was there. That was a while ago. The next one's Rivas. Maybe. I don't know. He's kind of been a dick to the Jets. Like there was that day he was supposed to show up last year and he just didn't show up for the like the what we love you. Rivas day. He's like, I don't love you, too. I don't care. But he definitely, you know, he's. Right now he's set to go in as a jet, which is in four years now. It's kind of nice. If every five years we're putting another guy in, and did you hear what they do? I just heard this through another podcast, that for next year they open it up to 20 people. Did you hear this? No. That they open up the Hall of Fame for 20 slots. Usually they do like five to seven, max. Well, they open it up to 20, and I can't... I didn't, I haven't dug in, sorry, sorry. Bad research. Got my whole life here to do. I can't figure out if it's a one-time thing, like, oh, we're doing as a one-time thing to let in a lot of people who would just never get in, but should be in. Maybe a lot of people have died or come back in through like the, but it's trickle. That's the thing. They come in one of the year. And if there's, let's say there's 20 out there, it would take 20 years for these guys to get in. All right, no. I like- I think the Hall of Fame should be super exclusive. I do too, but think of the amount of people who play. I think, if you're only putting in tons of people who play. If you put in six a year, I just think the funnel's too big. So I think the idea is for this one year, they're gonna open it up. Just get some guys in there that have been hanging around for a while. Maybe it's the NFL 100 year.
01 Jake: Like they spin it. And they're like, for the NFL 100 year, we're gonna open it up. to 20. Whatever. Four times the amount. I think that's actually kind of smart. Sure. Shut it back down the next year but um so I went I went back and looked at Malai so he was drafted by the Seahawks. Go Hawks! Um he started his career in 95 uh as a guard and then he moved to center 96. Uh, he was signed by the Jets in 98. So how many years with playoffs? So four years for the Seahawks. He then played for the Jets from 98 through, um, the 2005 season seven. So that's like seven or eight years with the Jets. And then you played four years with the Titans. That's a long career. That's a long. Grab 1516. Also, he had an he had a he had a consecutive game streak of 177 games as a jet. Yeah. That he came to an end in his last season as a jet where he had a triceps injury. October that made him miss the rest of the season. Between him and Mangold. They had an enormous stretch of... Because basically that's why we let him go, because we then drafted Nick Mangold. And then he was gone and we had Mangold. That was the transition. It was from one guy who never got hurt, who was awesome to another guy who never got hurt. It was awesome. It's a spoil. It's a spoil. And when was he drafted? What round was he drafted in? Oh boy. He was a second round pick. This is why I was the first round. I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm gold was the we know that wait first 25th I think it's off top of my head But that's where I just want to kick every every General manager that's been all these fuckers that have come through it's like guys Can't you see that history? Can't you see Oh huge period of time with this team? I'll say that huge period of time at this period like why didn't why have you done nothing about it? Oh, we got this one guy off the scrap deep. I don't understand it. I don't understand why Mike McKagnon would continuously just avoid the offensive line position. Again, this year, and I know we're all gonna love Queenen this year. Queenen Williams is, yeah. You're gonna love it. I'm sure it's gonna be great. But if they had drafted... at three the best center the best offensive lineman on the board at three i wouldn't be sitting here unhappy i'd be like good you just made an investment for 10 years you just put money in the bank because that's what happens when you do that i'm still upset that this team doesn't do it i know because now you look at it and kevin beacham is like Got an injury. Yeah. And that's your starting left tackle. And it's like, Oh crap, this guy's injured. So if anything about Joe, Joe Douglas, I don't, again, he's never been a GM before. If, if, if, if he just dials in and says, wherever it is, let's call it 10 to 20.
00 Jake: Again, I'm being conservative. Not being, I'm being realistic 10 to 20 next year. Lock it down in Vegas. I'll be there. great center offensive linemen, whatever, that'd be like, yes, I'm already clapping, I'm clapping. I don't care who's there. That's who I want you drafting. All right, what else we got? We got camp. Camp's happening. Camp's happening. That's happening. Freaking we have a game too, don't we? We do, Thursday. All right. Which is in two days from now, we have the Jets Giants. traditionally our third game in the preseason, but since we play in the regular season this year, we'll just do it week one when it Yeah, you're not really giving away anything. Hopefully no one gets fucking no one gets hurt You're not giving away strategies. Although the Giants are super fucking banged up. So they've lost like three receivers They've lost so Golden Tate is suspended for the first four games, right? Shepherd is ACL right now. Shepherd is likely to be back for week one and some guy they signed like Corey. Oh, crack a beer. OK. Corey Corey Coleman. If you recall, he was the guy who was cut last year at the end of hard knocks from the Browns. He was like very talented, but he was kind of a dick. Yeah. They cut him. Hard knocks started up yet tonight. Tonight. Yeah. Oakland. What time? 10. Too late. Too late for you. Too late for me. I'll watch it on the plane tomorrow. Oh wait I can't because you suck HBO. So anyway, Giants are pretty banged up. Coleman's the one who tore his ACL so he's out. So they have not a whole lot of depth at like receiver. Um... But that'll be interesting when we get to this game. I'm not sure that Beecham is going to play. Marcus May still hasn't suited up. This is becoming a trend with pretty much. I want to say camp actually started with a holdout. Like we didn't have Quinn and William signed. That's true. Second year in a row. But see how fast. See how happy. Fast it goes you don't even remember it's like oh, yeah four days later. Oh, yeah, by the way now It's and Sam. Donald did that too. Yeah, and do we remember that? No, cuz now it's different cuz it's like what are we arguing over? It's the same shit. It's bullshit though. It's just look it is the jazz for being dicks and being very hard-lined on some things Again, two to three days does not matter. That guy's in camp. That dude is funny. Have you seen the videos with this guy? Yes. He's hilarious. He's very funny. Apparently he's got this like, it's just this way of words or something or just his, it's almost like his luck. He's like a big teddy bear. Yeah, his lack of like caring about what comes out of his mouth. Yeah. He's like. The last comment was about him playing with himself. He's like I was just playing with myself because I could do that I was like that came out wrong He says this stuff like out loud like where he thinking where he blessed to thank himself Oh, I could not believe when that happened. I was watching it and I texted my friends I was like this idiot guy just
02 Jake: Sneezed and blessed and thanked himself like all in one motion on TV I really, I have no idea who this guy is and we drafted him. In the 2019 NFL Draft. The Jets just drafted that fucking guy, that idiot. Other than that, I was at the draft and I was watching, my wife was working the red carpet, long story. And I was taking pictures because I don't actually get to see her work very often. and she was with all the top people. So I have pictures with her, and I have a picture with him, and I was like, oh look, isn't that cool? And then of course he gets drafted. So yeah, I mean all the news is coming out. Again, training camp is very important. It is the most hyped everything, like every ball, every snap, everything. I remember the days of, I'm actually super happy to be in this training camp because there's this feeling of, Listen, it's Sam like even last year Wasn't Sam. It was like we don't know first round rookie. Yeah, it's some guy and this year. It's a hundred percent Sam It's all about him and all the news seems to be just pointing positive He's under control. He's playing. Well, he seems to get it sense the took a handoff at the at you know at the five yard line and backed up against their own goal line and he ran it for 20 and train and did training camp and like yeah I don't care you're running no I want to see all this in in the regular season yeah how much do you think Bell will play in the preseason yeah like what do you think one series per game maybe maybe second and third I think in game one he'll be not even playing. Probably I would agree. I'm okay with that. I think in game two you'll see him in the first series However, however it takes. Really? Three now? Yeah, I think they play him for like a Couple series. I think this is the way he's been just over the course of his career He very rarely plays in the preseason But I do think game three you're gonna he's gonna have to play cuz he hasn't played right meaning Oh for a fucking year last year, so he's got to get hit Yeah, so I just kind of has to get hit like a like a quarter or just get hit real hard and that's fine Like he just needs to take a hit. I don't know if that's a thing Well, it's just more it is a thing. He needs to he needs to be comfortable getting hit People coming off of injuries. He's not coming off an injury. He's coming off. Just not playing I don't think we need to get it like not and it's actually worse than an injury. Like when you're coming off an injury, you are recovered, you're fine, you're healed, and you've just spent a whole lot of time working your ass off to recover,
00 Jake: like through, you know, training. He might have just sat his ass around for a year. I don't know. I think he just needs to get hit and see how his conditioning feels after he gets hit. Like, oh, am I out for three days? Like, what's going on? I can't. Right? Not a thing. All right. What's, um, what else? What other trade, um, camp news you got coming out? So the depth chart came out. The first unofficial, official depth chart. So just so you know, this is an NFL rule that every team has to do this and a lot of teams hate it and they fuck with you and they'll put like the worst person in the first. Now I don't think Gace is that kind of guy. He's not because I see it. and he didn't. fuck around with this. He's also an anti NFL guy. I think he's just like a, he's been in the system for too long. Bill Parcells might not have Tom Brady starting. Right. Exactly. You want to talk about Tom Brady's new contract? Guess not. No, I don't really want to. Anyway, so let's just go through this real quick. All right. Who's going to start a QB? Well, let me go through an order that they have it to make it easier. So they have wide receiver split as like a wide out, a wide out, and a slot. Right? So that's Robbie Anderson, Quincy Inoune-Watt, Jameson Crocker. Alright, stop there. Any surprises? No surprises there, no. Nope. Although when I look down the second line, I'm like, oh, I don't feel like there's as many. There's not a lot of depth here. But I kind of feel like, I feel like there was more depth. Now looking at it, I'm like, that's not as much as I thought. No, I mean, the fourth receiver's really sitting there and it's Deontay Burnett, who they have... In a player three slot for a wide I think he's gonna be Ultimately the fourth receiver and probably play more in the slot. All right, keep going. So at left tackle we have Kelvin Beach them. Yep backed up by our rookie Edogha who is the third round pick? Okay Left guard we have Khalechi assembly I mean nothing comes out of me is like oh my god. That's amazing. I Like your left side. There's a lot of age on this on this. I like Khalil, Khalil. And Ryan's old. Oh, Khalil's old. Khalil's old. He's retired, essentially, but like, Shell is young. Winters is not old. He's young. But he's pretty injury prone, I feel like. Winters is kind of always banged up. Well, we'll see what happens with these cards. Okay. All right. Let's just tell him. And the guy we just traded for isn't on here yet. So, tight end. This is a place where, like, Chris Herndon is not listed as a starter.
00 Jake: And that's because he's suspended for four games. So they have Ryan Griffin in there. Okay. But West go, there's actually quite a dearth of tight ends. And I feel like only two of them are going to make the roster. Maybe three. What do you think? Definitely West Coast drafted. I think West Coast is they drafted him and he's also slotted as our only fullback. And Herndon's definitely gonna get it but he's suspended for four games. We also drafted that guy Oh no, we drafted Westco didn't I think Ryan Griffin was the guy that we got? Yes, so I think those will be like the guys maybe Tomlinson because he was around super interesting it I think Sam's the starter and then we got Seaman and then they'll be a little, I guess, a little bad string. We'll see a lot of Davis web week. How about that? Kind of fun. Yeah. I love the upside on this kid. gonna come in and like like, it's a three and out. I think darn one series. Maybe two. Um... Then you'll get Simeon probably to finish up the half, I think. And then Webb takes a second half. And then Webb will take the whole second half. I don't think this guy, Luke Falk, has a chance. Not a Falking chance. Not a Falking chance. Running back, very, very excited about this group. Le'Veon Bell, Ty Montgomery, Balal Powell, Eli Maguire, Trent Cannon. That's five pretty good ones right there. Yeah, I think good depth we just so did we sign pop ball before the Joe Douglas error after I Think after okay with the with the whole idea of that dude likes to use a lot of running backs Right so does gaze the best piece of news other than nobody hurt out of Out of training camp that I've heard is when oh, we've been seeing a lot of Bell Montgomery lineups I'm like Montgomery is the thing. I just see that all day long Honestly, like that's I just like please that's that's also an answer to the Above that wide receiver looking so sparse Bell and Montgomery can both line up as receivers and ball. Falcon two. But like really, but really line up. Treading cannon. But like outside. Yeah. No, I know. Like not just like, you know, Paul can line up in the slot and do a couple of little things here and there, which is very nice. These guys are like receivers. Total totes and goats. OK, let's go. Let's go. D. So. Left go D. They have us in a 3-4 here. So let's take that for what it is So on the line, we have Leonard Williams, Quentin Williams and Harry Anderson Mr. Anderson behind those guys you've got Steve McClendon who I think might get cut personally really? Yeah, cuz you got Nate Shepard who does almost the same thing right and this other guy Father Casi who's another one. It's just
01 Jake: big fucking dude. Right. So I think that there'll be a couple guys that just I think McClendon's gonna get cut unless he shows some amazing leadership qualities but I don't know I don't see that like where was that last year you know I mean that that that wine that's a tough line I like that one that's a stout you put those three guys up there try to run against yeah go ahead go up my backers are gonna be free there's no middle there is no outside either Nowhere to go and double either one of them. Yeah. Yeah, you're gonna have to double You're gonna guess what Anderson will go get you. Yeah, we saw that last year like if you Messed around with Leo and double teamed him and Anderson was on the same side. He was getting it I think this could be it could be a fun line. It'd be fun to see when him Williams is really this good Yes, when him Williams is a disruptor the way he's supposed to be This will be a good line and it will lift what's behind it. So we got four linebackers right now. They've Brandon Copeland as the starting outside linebacker on one side with polite. The guy we drafted in the third round behind him. Then you've got CJ Moseley and Avery Williamson in the middle, which I think is one of the top middle pairings. It's got to be right. Then you've got Jordan Jenkins on the other side by the way By the way, just as a side if we if you can say that that's the top middle line backer, you know I think one of the top two if you're playing you have to give Mac a little credit for that He made that happen. He did make that happen Totally went out and got Avery Williamson and he did people think we've overpaid with CJ Moseley So we'll have to see what he does. See how good he is. Yep, and then at corner Whoa, so they have it as Brian pool And then Daryl Roberts, I understand it to be somewhat differently where Daryl Roberts will be starting on the outside Brian pools more of a slot guy But whatever and then the other side I got not this does not make my house This is not good. Someone's got to get cut that we go get Tremaine Johnson on the other side Perry Nickerson. That's like your top four corners. She's yeah, then we've gone corners That's where it is. Then you've got Jamal and Marcus May In the middle and behind those two guys you've got Ron Tismalz, Doug Middleton. Those guys have been here. They've been around for the last couple years. We know who they are. So so every year you just end up with a bunch of fucking corners that are weak. Yeah, but we have studs at every level except for corner. Well every level meaning the three levels we have studs on the line studs at linebacker studs at the defensive back position yes agreed some of the best actually like at their positions Jamal Adams might be an all-pro this year like first team agreed and then special teams we do have two punters Lock Edwards does have some competition in Mat Darr. I think he punted for the dolphins when for one of those gaseers. Our kicker supposedly has been
00 Jake: awful in camp. Like he's missing kicks every day. Yeah. And he's missed kicks in the like green and white practice. Just like he's just a bad kicker. And I don't see why they don't have another kicker. Just like Chandler Catanzaro is not gonna be our kicker. If we want to win games, no, like that's not the kicker. Go get a better one. Right. And then in terms of returning, they've got Trent Cannon. I don't think that's going to end up being the guy. I think he's a fumbler. So that just won't be it'll probably be one of these receivers or they'll go out second year. Let's give him a little bit of like, you know, I don't know, man. The dude like just botched so many things. He did but it was a rookie. Yeah, but like fumblers or fumblers? No, not true. Talk to Tiki Bardiver. He was a fumbler and then he one guy who fixed that No, they all do. They just have to go and use it. There's a way to do it. They fix it They don't fix it. Don't all fix it. Fix it Why aren't you fixing it? Great. I'll fix it Isn't it fixed? So fixed All right, well, who we up against next? Giants, right? Yeah, we got the Giants coming out. This Thursday. It's two days from now. We're both on the road. We are on the road. The chances of seeing this game. Zero live. Very slim. Slim to the sky. Actually zero percent. Unless we have the preseason passage. It's a zero percent. It's not happening. I mean I'm pretty I have I have YouTube TV So it's recording but like YouTube TV wants to know like where are you? But it's recording at home Which has the local network for the jet-jet so I might be able to like pull it up on my computer or pull it up on my iPad. Yeah I mean preseason games this is I think the first season I won't go to one because of just travel I've crazy travel you have crazy travel but I it hurts me when I'm not watching it but then when I watch it again and I think this one so much better to watch not live because you don't even have to watch the second half Well, you can also just skip the thing or go to and get them, you know, the condensed version where you don't see any commercials. Just show me the game and it's, you know, half the time and you can watch it. Probably gonna record it just because I want to have it on the big TV when I get home and then I'll get home and you know, Saturday morning just. Oh, no, I won't be watching Saturday morning. I'll be like, well, maybe I'll be up super early and watch it. Um, yeah, I mean, again. We talk about this all year every year for this is I guess going on our billionth year doing this podcast You know training camp and preseason games. There's all these rumors. They're gonna change them get rid of them Check it down to three. There was a thing they were gonna put that was one of the rumors that came out They're looking at doing an 18 game season, but only letting players play for 16 games Love that really? Why why would you want to have Sam Darloy can't play? I love it I love it. First of all, you're being facetious. I'm not. First of all, Sam missed three games last year.
02 Jake: So what if like those were just the games? Secondly, it's an interesting thing to think about going up against a team where they've decided that they're going to sit someone against you and they have to and they have to. and you're like. Really? Chalkboard material. I guess. I don't know. You're gonna sit your quarterback against us? I just- We're gonna play a, what? Backup? Oh, okay. I just wish it wasn't NFL just being greedy. This all comes around to, we know the preseason value proposition sucks. It's not a good enough game to charge all this money. For the fans, it sucks. For the players, they need to do it. Well, they can't have them play 18 because then in this new CBA, they're just gonna say no. They also need that, like as much as this seems ridiculous, this four game thing, I think they need a three game preseason. They need the first game to just knock the cobwebs out and get some real action. They need the second game to really practice. They need the third game to cut half the people. It's the fourth to weed out those people. But then you're taking away. Which basically turns into the fourth. You're taking away game two. I want to take away game two. Which is generally meaningless. Game one. It's game four. That's the meaningless one. No, game four means a lot because it's the last cuts. It's those guys' last chance to make the team. And you've got to weed those guys out properly. From a fan standpoint, it's the meaningless one. From the fans standpoint, it's the worst of the games. But it is absolutely a necessary game. You've got to have a game when you let the last string guys that you're filling out your roster with play but why not do some sort of like Some sort of mock scrimmage or something like I don't know. It just feels like you got to see those guys play That's the point you have to see if you're gonna cut a guy or not But this is also where I think the NFL gets, you know, caught up its own shit and I just don't like them for this is that they get it's like they always have to keep tinkering and always like sometimes I think as a league and I'm just throwing it out there it's probably bullshit I think as a league the NFL is one of the most let's just keep fucking changing it from rules to things you don't follow the NFL. That's what I'm saying. So you can't make that same. Yes I can. I said I think so I can. Yeah they don't they don't tinker nearly as much as. Why do the sport tinkers more? basketball tinkers a ton by doing what think about tinkering in the super weirdest of ways there i mean they have changed their replay shit every year for like the last five years okay like and it's fucking terrible the last three minutes of a basketball game could take 45 yeah that's just that's it's just always been bad yeah but they've only made it worse baseball's probably the least of the tinkers right because it's a very like tradition sport, right? It's over 100 years old in this country. Like we played this is our pastime. We played this sport.
00 Jake: They've tinkered a little to try and make the game faster. Yeah, which has worked. I don't think that the NFL tinkers as much as we think they do. They change like. One or two rules a year maybe but that are you know, they change a bunch of rules the amount of rules They change every year is a lot the ones that we know about the ones that matter very very minor no, going the Kicking the moving the back the offense of the the These are reactions to real concerns. I Like real medical, long-term life concerns. This is where I actually disagree. They're just reaction to real media concerns, not real medical concerns. Because the real medical behind it is every tackle is a micro hit. Well, they have to get towards, and they're not going to like steer the ship overnight. Ultimately, in my opinion, they have to get to a place where they're not wearing helmets. Oh, no, there's no sport. They'll get to a place where it's just virtual. There's a sport. It's called rugby and it exists and people hit each other and people run and they throw and they kick and all this shit and they tackle the fuck out of each other, but they're not wearing helmets. When you listen to episode 1322... We'll be talking about the New York Jets going against the New York Giants. Esports style? Yeah, it'll be esports. Esports is already becoming a dominating thing. Once the NFL, if I were the NFL, I've said this to someone who's actually used to work at the NFL. I said if I were the NFL, I would call it Project Titan, Project Odin, Project whatever, and I'd get... 10 of the smartest people I know in the room and say, where is the NFL in 20 years? Because it's not this. This is going away. Just like boxing, it's like it's going away. The actual physical- The boxing only run away because MMA is kicking its ass. The physical abuse of human beings is gonna go away. I don't think so. It won't last. I don't think so. And so you gotta get rid of it. I mean, we, we, I- The virtualization of the world is gonna happen. Yeah, I get it, but that's cool and all, but like- It's gonna happen. I mean, I just go back to like my honeymoon, which was. Oh, oh my God five years ago. Well, I visited the Coliseum where what happened? Physical competition between two humans occurred and a crowd of people came to watch. Yes. So you think that that's going to change? No, physical. No, the, the, the playing of people against each other where other people watch. But if you watched and I totally, I don't know if you watched it, the, um, seven days till on Netflix. Go watch the 70s is one episode about eSports and it's about this tournament that you a game you've never heard of about tournament you've never heard of and The size of it and the hype around it was something you like felt like Super Bowl ask Smaller nature, but it's still this massive massive sand eSports Like I know what they are I get it all what all the NFL will become again Don't know how they're gonna exactly do it But I could totally see where you're watching a sport being played and you it's all virtual and it's all you're totally in it and whatever.
08 Jake: But the person controlling this the Sam Darnold or Sam Darnold Jr. or Joe Smith is just Joe Smith but he's using a controller. Well his name will be Joe Smith not Sam Darnold. Well that's what I'm saying in 23 years. But the point is... That's the way so it'll still be about humans building being able to do the function. I know I disagree I think I'll bet you I will bet you I will bet you right now. What do you want to bet? I'll bet you season tickets in 20 years fine done Yeah, it's it gets to a real football game not some oh no in 20 years. Yeah, I think it's Piece of innovation I think it'll there'll be two natural parts that are push it that way one will be just the science that comes out about what we're doing to human beings, I think that will push it one way. And then the other thing is the domination of esports will just show and people will stop going. And this whole generation that gives up, that is the Fortnite generation doesn't care about actual football. And they'll, so either the sport just go like this and plummet and they'll be like, how do we get around this? So I think they're gonna have these two forces pushing together. And then just who cares at that point. Again, it's still your team. You still have the New York Jets. And you still have humans doing it. So there's still a human aspect to it. And I was watching this thing, this documentary. It was so fascinating. It was, there were these little kids. They were, I mean, teenagers. But they were still rock stars. So you still had this point of you still cared about that person. But they were playing a character. Yeah, I don't see it. I know. I could and listen the whole near chance we run by a bunch of teenagers. I just don't. And you'll be rooting for that teenager. Oh, he's really good. And how do you draft them? Do you draft the player? How do you give them physical ability on the field? I don't know that all stuff can be figured out. All that stuff. Can you figure it out? Well, it can't. It's sort of like, hey, how good are you at football? Well, I don't know, I train every day and I like throw them off. So what do you do? You start at what? Where do you start? I don't know. Where does Joe Smith, the 16 year old, start? Again, this happens today in these games. They all start with the same ability. It's their ability to play together and train. But they're playing Madden, right? And Madden, I'm using football as the example. They're playing Madden. Yes. So Joe Smith, the teenager, is sitting there controlling Tom Brady. No, right. No, they're controlling Joe Smith. I know. Just let me talk. Yeah. Today, they're controlling Tom Brady, who has a baseline overall rating because that's what Madden says. Tom Brady is one of the best. He's a whatever. I'm 90 or whatever. Right. Where does Joe Smith start? Does everyone start at zero? Like the reason why football is interesting is because there are guys who can run really fucking fast. Let me let me and that's where they start. But let me explain. They started running really fucking fast. They actually started zero because they all are zygots.
01 Jake: Then they get popped out of a DJ. So we're so that's where we are. We're we're talking about when you start because you're a grown ass adult when you start in in playing like this professional sports. You can have 60 year olds be the best. But their little avatar would have to be how old? It'd be whenever that avatar entered in. Entered into what? Entered into... when football players enter in. So when they're playing Pee Wee football? Pee Wee eSports. Okay, so they're Pee Wee eSports. Yep. As a four-year-old or a five-year-old. Whenever... You're building your skills for your little... Avatar and it's got to be you it can't be your parents playing. That's right. How do we control? Nah, you're wrong. Nope. I'll bet you a zillion dollars on this one. You don't have a zillion dollars thankfully. Neither do you. Um, I have when I when I invest in my e-sport thing I'll have a zillion dollars. Yeah right. It's gonna happen. It's just it's just gonna happen. Sure sure. Because it'll take away everything that's wrong with the sport right now. Sure sure. Um, all right anything else? That was fun. No nothing else. No e-sports. Alright, I guess we don't have to predict the score of this game. Can't wait to watch Sam out there honestly. I'm excited about this season. I know we've been going a little back and forth about, you know, predictions for the season. We'll do that, by the way. We'll do that. We'll try to keep up at least one a week for the next four or five weeks. We'll do our prediction episode before the thing starts. Again, you want to be in the fantasy league? Let us know. What do you think? Like over half the people say yes? if we get a ping from half the people. Yeah, I mean the rest of your just autodraft jerk offs then. Okay, all right, then we'll do it. Otherwise, head over to JetKingdom.com. Like the podcast, leave us a review. It's been a while. And we'll be back. We'll start up into our regular season mode soon enough. Until then, it's as always. Go Chats! Thank you.
