18 Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom Podcast, the longest running New York Jets Podcast ever. I'm Jake joining me for the 325th time in a row. It's Justin, Justin, how the hells are ya? Well, he's trying to type and talk at the same time. I'm alive, which is, a good thing. You know, I don't want to be insensitive. And I apologize if that offended anyone who who has been infected by what's going on. Well, you know, who knows somebody who has been impacted by what's going on in the world right now. So apologies there. But with all that said, I'm doing okay. You know, missing my sports, that's for sure. I am definitely, definitely jonesing for tomorrow night. The draft is tomorrow, right, isn't it? Oh, yeah, it is tomorrow. The night, right? Yeah. Yeah. So I can't wait for that. You know, I got to be honest, I have not paid any attention, not even close to the amount of attention that I would normally pay to what's going on in the NFL. Because there's other things going on. So I just haven't gone on. There's just other stuff going on just in the world. It's going on. It's happening. We don't have to talk about it right now, but it is a thing. We get to this whole thing and not talk about it. Let's try. It's not going to work. Now, let's try. Let's try. Well, there's so many there's so many things that this could possibly affect. I guess we could not say the words. I mean, thank you for asking, but I'm okay as well. You know, yeah, thanks. I am both very happy to have the draft tomorrow because I'm hoping it brings a level of normalcy to our lives and feel although it's going to be a again, we can't mean not talking about it because it's not even going to I mean, this was a draft I was super last year went to the draft in Tennessee, Nashville. And I had the best time in the world. And I remember coming back and I think if you listen to the podcast from last week or last year, same thing, I'm doing this every year. I said I'm not going to do this in a year, but next year is in Vegas. And I can't freaking wait because it's gonna be a million people in Vegas. It's gonna be awesome. We're gonna have this great time. It's gonna be a party. It's gonna be amazing. I was super, super, super excited. And then what happened? And then this happened. Yeah, so not only is it not meeting Vegas,
02 Jake: they're not, it's all virtual. They're, everything's gonna be virtual. And I'm actually just kind of excited to see them do it. One of the coolest things I think and this is something should have happened years ago is the emerging NFL and ESPN. They're going to co do the draft together. That's right. So that seems to make the most sense to me like, yeah, why do we need these two separate groups saying the same thing? Oh, with that, I really like it. And that Jets really need to quarterback this year. Just come on. And for sports people, There has been nothing as you know, all sports have been canceled. So this is kind of the first quote unquote sporting event that has happened in a long time and probably for a long time. I mean, there's been some interesting things that have happened. And you know me, I'm a sports whore. You call me that. And I have no shame about it. Except for no one pays you to do it. You just do it for yourself. What is that? It just makes me a slut. That, yeah, a sports slot better. Now I'm so I have I have and I will admit to watching Formula One race drivers in simulators. Oh my God. Yeah. Oh my God. And I will also admit that I have. gone back in time and have become a UFC fan and have started going backwards and learning about the UFC. So UFC is kind of awesome, digging it. Khabib, he's kicking ass right now. He's the guy, he's the man. I don't think people like him, but I'm not sure. I have to figure this all out. He wears a cool hat, that's cool. And I've also been watching. I've subscribed to ESPN plus. So as a subscriber to ESPN plus, I now have a lot of access to like a library of all these classic games and things that they've broadcast over the years. So I've just gone back and started watching stuff. All the thirty four thirties are on there with no commercials. It's awesome. And they just put out they they pushed it up by like a month and a half, I think they were going to do this in June. They pushed up the the release of their their 10 part documentary called The Last Dance, which is all about the last bulls season, the 97, 98 championship season. Michael Jordan's last year with the Bulls, Pippin's last year. Rodman, all right, all right, all right, all right. Whatever, whatever, whatever. But that's what I've been up to. There are things to watch. It's kind of nice to be able to catch up on that stuff. Let's why don't we start with free agency? So why don't we start at the end of the year? We sucked. Why don't we keep going with the why don't we keep going with free agency? Because that actually happened and we could talk a little bit about give me.
03 Jake: We were semi active again in the midst of this great crazy thing as much as anybody was active about anything players could not go visit a lot of it was done just signing people give me your Favorite cut and your favorite sign of the of the Jets so far All right I don't know if there's like a cut. We didn't cut anyone. I mean, my favorite cut for me, Johnson. Gone. Yeah, that's obvious. I mean, that's an easy one. Gone. Goodbye. See you later. You know, not resigning Robbie Anderson, I actually think he's going to be turning out to me. I think that's going to turn out to be a pretty bright move. In my opinion, I don't see him as somebody who has the physicality to play in the NFL. as a wide receiver in the position that he plays, because he's an outside guy. He's just too small. He's fast. That's cool. But he's too small. And we replaced him with Rashad Perriman, who I think they're very similar. So I'm excited about, you know... that I don't think that we made any big splash moves. We have a whole new offensive line for the most part, and I think they'll continue to address that in the draft. And I was a big fan of the re-signing of. Brian Poole. I know that that is a weird one. I know. I know. But a one year deal to resign him for another one year. He was on a one year prove it. I thought he played very well. He's a good slot receiver, a good slot corner and a really good blitzer. I think he is. He's a good piece that they resigned for very cheap at the corner position. And I'm. Actually think weirdly, we're in decent shape at corner. I know that's really weird to say, but I think we're in decent shape. I really do. I have again gone back and watched some old jet games from last year. And. When Bless Austin. And Arthur Mollett, we're on the field together. They weren't bad. Blassham's not bad. Blassham. You just gotta focus on me. Number 31, kind of looks like Antonio Cromarti out there. He's tall. And he played really well the last five games down the stretch. And he's a guy who hadn't played it for two years in college because he tore his ACL two years in a row, but would have was like projected to be a really good draft pick. So we got him in like the sixth round or something last year. And. I was pretty excited by it when I was rewatching the games. I'm like, that guy's pretty good. They're not even looking his way.
02 Jake: So I thought it was a good, I think they were rounding out and what they're gonna have to do in the draft is pick up guys who are gonna make an impact like almost immediately. I mean, obviously, what are you signing? Definitely David. Well, that's a big one. Yeah, I left him out of the one year. But I think Jenkins probably be my kind of favorite. I mean, obviously we died at Line Brecker last year. It was a it was a hospital. It was a I almost said the word. It was a quarantine last year of line. So having, you know, signing him, I think he was, he's a medium guy, a B, B plus guy. And I think signing guy, I like that. He's average like place on the edge and he doesn't necessarily get to the quarterback. But but it depends who's he's with. If he's the, if he's your third guy, then you're, and you're better than if he's your starter, right? Like that's the starter. He's an outside linebacker who starts. And his job is to get to the quarterback. I like him to be solid. He's not great. He's solid. Yeah, solid. Same as the other guys that we signed as we've resigned. We've resigned Burgess because he played well last year in the middle. We've resigned Neville Hewitt because he started to look better towards the end of the year. So it leads you to believe that maybe Avery Williamson will be cut. Maybe. Makes a lot of money. Yeah. Maybe they'll cut them. They also signed a starting corner from the Colts. So I'm not sure we'll start for the Jets, but good to have the depth with Pierre DeSere. And as we mentioned, they signed like... all these linemen, right? Yeah, George. Lineman, Lineman, Lineman, Lineman. That one's interesting. George Fant. I'll be very interested to see where he ends up playing for us. And if he's any good. Because he was one of those weird swing tackles that played for Seattle that they like. you know, that third tackle that they bring in is eligible and like, go throw it to him once more, whatever. Yeah, eligible. Right. But he was never a starter. And they're kind of taking a kind of taking a flyer on this guy they think could be a left tackle, maybe even. They also signed, they've resigned Alex Lewis, they liked, I guess, what they saw from him last year. And they and they signed McGovern to to play center. So they really went out and like signed for new linemen. And they're gonna have to go draft them. I mean, this is this is the when you have so bad, you have to do both, you have to both go out and grab them in free agency and then back it up. Because even if you draft the next greatest guy at that whatever six pick, you still know what pick we have. That's great. And then you still have to back it up with other guys.
02 Jake: You can't just say, oh, we're done. Because we know how these free agencies, sometimes they turn out to be studs, but a lot of times they turn out to be washed out. So you have to back them up. And then it could also be one or two year guys where you want to go, what is the guy beyond that guy that's going to help out for years to come? Again, I think my dream has come true. in that once again, I don't think as a as a jet fan, I'm not sitting here. They're not talking about drafting or thinking about quarterback. So finally, for two years in a row now, there's no question. There's no, hey, we needed whatever. I think people, most people are still on the Sam Darnold bandwagon. I think so. I think so. We can we play a game? Sure, let's play a game. Oh, yes. Oh, you want to play a game? All right. Ready? Yes. We're going to we're going to we're going to play the game that we're going to play probably for the next 10 years. We're going to. Who would you rather? That's right. We're going to redraft and we'll include. We'll include. We'll include Rosen in the mix. And if you want, we can even include like Mason Rudolph, who was in that class who went in the set around and started for the Steelers a couple times last year. Who might be ahead of Josh Rosen, honestly, in most people's minds at this point. At this point, probably. He's at least played and looked halfway decent. So... rank them, like rank them. And you got Baker, and this is in the order they were drafted. You have Baker Mayfield, you have Sam Darnold, you have Josh Allen, Josh Rosen and Lamar Jackson. Now, we can rank these in two different ways. We can rank them like, who's like legit? better right now or Who do you actually want? Hmm Let me just go from like what I think from a talent standpoint regardless of team so team regardless Okay, I'm gonna go I'm gonna go reverse order And I'm gonna go just talent again. It's hard, I'm super biased. I'm gonna go Rosen five. I'm gonna go Alan, Donald, Baker, Jackson, number one. So Jackson, so going back from one to five. Jackson Baker, Darnold, Alan Rosen. I did reverse and then did that's just like straight up straight up talent talent. Yeah, just just if just put them on any team and go on a team and go Yes, I know I know Jackson's certainly on a team
02 Jake: that is building around his talent. And I know that I don't think Baker is I don't think Baker's on a team that like built stuff around him. Sam, I think is Yeah, they did. Oh, to the success of the team. Let's track. Okay, let's draft this guy number one overall. And then let's go get Jarvis Landry. And then the next year, we'll go get a motel Beckham. And We'll also get some running, like we'll draft Nick Chubb and we have a line already. Like, yeah, he had talent. Did nothing with it his second year. They went out and they got more things for him to play with. Odell Beckham's, no joke. Didn't happen. All right, so I have a different, I have a very different. viewpoint on this. Okay, so just you do it. So do it from do it from from reverse of just talent. So where do you disagree with me? Just straight up. Talent. I think Josh Allen's number one. I think he's got the most talent in the group. Yeah, he's got the most arm talent and he's any can run. He can really run and you don't think it, but he's Cam Newton out there. So I actually think Josh Allen right now, if you were to say, who do you want? I'd say, give me Josh Allen legitimately. Then after that, it would be hard. It'd be hard to not put Lamar second, just based on what he did. I do think that that's very system dependent. And if you just dropped him on the Browns, he'd not be anywhere close to as good as what Baker turned out. But you can't really deny what the guy did. So I'll put Lamar number two, thinking in the future, he'll probably not be up that high. I'm going to go with Sammy D. Number three. I think he's better than bacon. Mayfield. We agreed at that. Okay. And then I'm going to put Baker fourth and Rosen fifth. Oh, well, so that's what we agreed on. So we agreed on. on Darnold and Rosen, you flipped. You want Alan to hide his job. I just think Josh Allen at this point in time is the best of the bunch. You can you just watch it. He can throw. He can run. He makes big plays at big times. He doesn't get accuracy. He's accurate. You know, after it. No, he doesn't have over a 60 percent completion rate. He's not accurate enough. I'm sorry. I'm looking at his numbers. But like, completion percentage is interesting because you got to look at like, well, how far is he throwing the ball down the field? And you know, okay, so his completion percentage was 59% fine. And 60 6.7 yards per attempt versus Sam was 6.9 versus Jackson was I can't get them all here together was 7.8 yards per attempt. So lowest of those three.
01 Jake: Baker was 7.2 yards per attempt. So when you have a low completion percentage and a and a low many yards per attempt, how many yards did these guys throw for so Baker 38 Josh Allen 3000 Sam Donald 3024. So they're almost exactly the same and Mark Jackson 3127. So the lowest of those three. I just think it's it's It was all about him just taking the ball and running it. And I watched you playing against the jazz. I don't write Rosen. Rosen 53% 53% compliance. Right. So he's just that was not even a question. He's trash. He's a trash fire. But so we will we agree we think that Sam's in the middle of the pack. We don't think he's number one. Yeah, but but you're really drafting you're saying that you're saying that he didn't get You know, doesn't get picked number two. If we're redrafting that draft and the Jets are sitting there and Baker just got took number one and the Giants do what they do and they pick a Quan, I think if they're sitting there right this minute, they take Josh Allen. Justin: Oh, no way. Jake: So the law and for over 500 yards and nine touchdowns last year, by the way. By the way. Did you hear that? He ran for over 500 yards and nine touchdowns. Yeah, it's a one hit wonder. I just don't. Not a lot. That's not a one hit wonder though. Why is that a one hit wonder? He ran for nine touchdowns last year. He ran for eight in 2018. So the guy clearly runs for touchdowns. Yeah, he's Camden 2.0. Camden 2.0. No accuracy. Big guy. Hey man, can can I was barely playing? Yeah, Newton was a league MVP and led his team to a Super Bowl. I'll take that anytime. I'll sign up for it right now. I'll sign up for love in the Super Bowl. And then they do the same since. Hey, man, I'll sign up for that right now. You ever seen the Jets in the Super Bowl? You ever seen it with your own eyes? Really? Really live? You ever see it? I never see it in your lifetime while you've been alive. No, you haven't. So I'll take it. I'll take it. I'll take Cam Newton. If my guy turns out to be Cam Newton, I'll take it. I'm happy with that. League MVP go to a Super Bowl. Yeah, I'll take that. So all right, let's get off this. Let's talk about the only other real news before we get to I mean, there's so many things that happened. But let's talk about the draft. Let's talk about The I think by the way, the office, what we're not even to be pretty with just happened yesterday. So we have a double news story. So we're going to be picking up where you know, so by the way, pages didn't win the Super Bowl this year. Yay. well, so I was so the fun part of that was I was in Massachusetts. surrounded by 50 rabid Patriots fans watching that game. And I did, I thought there's no way in the world they're gonna lose that game. Every Patriots fan's like, you're witnessing the last, the last game that Timmy Brady ever plays for the Patriots.
00 Jake: And I was like, you guys are stupid, you're insane, you don't know what the hell you're talking about. And God damn it, they were right. It happened and he was traded to the Bucks. And then just yesterday, Which I didn't, I mean, didn't even know it's a thing that it could happen. Gronk has traded to the Bucks for a fourth, a fourth swap with the seventh. So the Bucks get Rob Gronkowski and a seventh round pick from the Patriots and the Patriots get a fourth round pick from the Bucks. Leave it to the Patriots to pull off a trade. to get something for somebody that was retired and sitting on their couch. Or is the 24 seven champion in WWE. I mean, he's got other things going on. So like, how they dragged him out of there, I don't know, but I still think the bigger the bigger news is Brady fuck grunk. The big news is Brady, right? When the greatest player of all time moves on to another team, it's a big deal. And I I have my feelings. I have not listened to the Howard Stern interview, which by all accounts was like the thing to listen to, because it was like two and a half hours long. But. Really? So apparently that's the thing. Like, go listen to that if you really want to hear it. What Tom Brady's got to say. He didn't say much, but he let a little more out than he normally does. But apparently this this is something that has been brewing for a couple of years. And back when. The Patriots traded Jimmy Garoppolo to the 49ers, apparently. Belichick wanted that to be Brady. And Kraft said, Hell no. Hell no. And Brady wanted to play with the 49ers. He grew up there in the Bay Area, obviously. We know that. And. I think that from then on Brady's relationship with Belichick was done. And he made sure that when his this contract was renegotiated that he had a clear out. And this was it. This was his clear I can leave and he's never been a free agent before in his life. But finally, he's gone out of the AFC East. Thankfully, goodbye. And I've always maintained that. I've always thought it's Belichick and not Brady, but it's clearly the two of them together. Hopefully they just fall apart. Hopefully they just really fall apart. The wheels come off and Belichick leaves and they're stuck with nothing. But they had a nice 20 year run there. I mean, that's the thing that I would think is that like, as a Jets fan, I'm happy to see him go. Right. But more if I just put on my football hat,
04 Jake: like I'm a football fan for the season, if we have football this season, we'll see. I'm more kind of interested to this is the argument that's happened forever, right? The argument is always been is it Brady or is it Bello Chuck? Which one's the better one? Who can do? Well, there's that one season when he did whatever and then, you know, so no one's ever been able to make the argument for which side is better. So if Bello Chuck goes on. Right. If Belichick goes on, take some whoever and turns them into the next Tom Brady, then we know it's Tom, then we know it's Belichick. If if great, well, the problem is Brady's old. And so it's kind of not fair. And you can't really do the same thing. But Brady goes on and let's say has two years and he's looks great. And and the Patriots look terrible. Then you go, Oh, we think then it was really Brady would do it. They both falter. I don't know that I guess the argument still goes off the next 20 years. I don't know what you do. It's interesting. We we play that division, not this season, but the next season, 2020, 2021, 2021 season in how long that you and I don't get to see Tom Brady play since that year, he tore his ACL. So whenever that was oh, seven. Oh, six, I think maybe six. That's crazy. It's kind of crazy. Since 2006. We've literally seen Tom Brady play at least once a year. And I think we've gone and seen him up in New England as well. And if you take away Brady, we take away the Patriots as the powerhouse, and you got to believe there's going to be some drawback. Bills are kind of on the upswing. Yeah, I think the bills are the team. The bills are the team. The the jets are I don't know TBD. We don't know where they are. Are they upswing or downswing? I could make a case for either one. I would if I were to rank the division, I would say the bills are at the top of the division. And the other three teams are together, right below them. There it's it's it's too much will act this very moment too many unknowns with the Patriots, like who's their quarterback? It could be anyone at this point, right? There's still guys out there like that they can get. They might just draft someone in third round this year who's no one ever heard of. And all of a sudden, it's the best guy ever on the planet because they've been planning this for two years and they've been watching some sophomore play at some bullshit school and like, bumble fuck, you know, they're like that. It sucks. But if you can't, you can't bundle them all together. I'm going to say right now. Well, first of all, you can't take away from the Patriots because Bill Belichick still there. So I say if you're going to rank them, you still have to rank them. You basically have to rank them just the way they end of the season. Because I think the bills, I think the bills are at the top right now. They made the playoffs last year. They're on the ascension. They just actually added to their to their offense to make it better.
00 Jake: I don't see how the Bills don't win the division unless the Jets win it. And that's just my bias as a fan. I just don't see how the Bills don't win the division by the talent alone and their head coach is pretty good. They've made the playoffs over the last three years. That's pretty good. I don't like doubting. I don't like doubting the Patriots. I don't care if John Brady, no Tom Brady. I don't like doubting them. You can't. You can't say that they're not the still the top of it until you see them not the top of it. It's like every year predicting that they wouldn't win 12 games and every year they won 12 games. So I'm going to say it's Patriots by a small margin, but then it's the Bills, then it's the Jets and then it's the Dolphins. And I don't think the margins between each one of them is huge. Right. I don't know where, you know, honestly, I don't know the dolphins are this up and down team, you can never tell. Yeah, and last year going into the season, everybody had the Browns crushing the Ravens and Steelers and they didn't have an and they won free agency again this year. Apparently, always win. They always win the free agency. It'll be interesting with the dolphins to see what they decide to do at quarterback. Like, do they pull the trigger and say, all right, Rosen, like, it's time for you to play. Or are they going to roll with rhymes? They should have done that last year. Yeah, we all we all agree. But but I don't think he's going to think we saw enough. that he's not he's not I think we saw enough last year that we can go yeah so they like no rosin and you think the dolphins are going to try and make that move to try and get a quarterback in the draft like are they going to slide up to get to uh all right so what do we got let's talk about the draft let's get to it all right yeah this is a good it's a good segue good segue and we have like 20 more minutes i've got about Yeah, I've got about 20 minutes. Here's the draft order this year. In case you've been paying zero attention. You have the Bengals with the number one. Which is their time to come in and pick Joe Burrow. Yeah, so I think that's an obvious one. That's it. Joe Burrow, two-spin seed, done, done, done. We all know that. I think that's done. You can already have that. Then you got the Redskins coming in. So that's the pick. That's the one that people are saying is that's the place people are going to try to move up if they're going to try to move up because the Redskins are more than one player away from being anything. And they just drafted a quarterback last year. They basically have to again admit defeat if they were to pick a quarterback. The player. is is the defensive end from Ohio State. Chase Young. That's right. He's the player. Yeah. So. I think I think they think they probably will. But they'll entertain some offers up there, I think. Can you not? More than a defensive end away from being anything. Two is so expensive to get to, but maybe not nowadays. All right. So then you got then you got the Lions. Yeah. funny that the Lions, the Lions don't have quarterback as one of their needs.
03 Jake: Really? That's kind of interesting. They would draft a quarterback. Yeah, but it's not like a few more years at a Stafford who knows. Oh, God. So I'm going to go Derek Brown defensive tackle. I don't know why. And then you got the Giants. Giants, UI has the title. So do you think two is going to be able to slip all the way down out of here? Um, unless Well, all the way down to where the dolphins will slip by. So, so what's the deal with two? I heard he heard him. Where are the where the dolphins? So the dolphins pick at five. Yeah, I think I'd probably be there unless someone pops up to two to grab them. I think I think he'll be there. Do Giants have their guy? They just have their guy Daniel Jones. They're going to pick a tackle. No, I think the Giants will pick the best player. Whoever's there, anybody, anyone, they need a lot. I think people thinks that they're going to pick the linebacker. All right. So then we think two goes to the Dolphins. I think so. Unless they, unless they pervert or they like, well, Burrell, we already had going to, yeah, we had Burrell going to. He's number one overall. Okay, so then I think two of those of them and they're happy unless they like Herbert. I mean, the guy had a pretty legit injury in college. And, you know, they're going to have to take a hard look at that. But the, you know, the funny thing about the Dolphins is remember how they got burned by a bad decision about injuries when they did not sign Drew Brees. When they had him in the building, they had him in the building and they had the ability to sign him, no problem. And he wanted to go there and it was all set to go. And they were worried about his shoulder and. Oh, I don't know. 15 years later, he's done all right. I think the Chargers pick pick the other quarterback. I got answers. But the point of going back to that was I could see the dolphins saying, wait, in our history, we were super conservative around a potentially like franchise altering quarterback decision. let's go the other way this time and just pick to who cares. You know? Yeah. All right. So let's get to the jets. So here's the needs analysis. Again, I've done nothing done no homework, done nothing. There's years where I've studied and come up with my own draft picks and like whatever. The most useless piece of garbage knowledge podcast about the jets on the internet. garbage bullets call it so they're calling our top needs corner linebacker outside linebacker running back oh sorry sorry offensive lineman i'm reading about running back and wide receiver not in order oh that's it so agree or disagree what do you think our number one need is
01 Jake: Our number one need is an offensive lineman. I think I agree. That's so that's blue chip offensive lineman. Don't even care what position just if they're guard their guard, look what Quinton, Quinton Nelson did for the Colts. Like who cares? Just the best offensive lineman that's there. Pick them. I agree. I agree. I think that's just, I think it's just a no brainer. I wouldn't try to get fancy with a wide receiver. I wouldn't try to get fancy with anybody else. You're out of the top 10 anyway. So it's not even like, no, wide receiver early is very tricky. You know, it's such a crap shoot when you're picking wide receiver so early, those guys you guys don't really, you don't know. It could be guys like. that are just as good in the third or fourth or fifth round, and they just don't have the same measurables or whatever, you know, during the combine. All right, so let's go here and let's see, now can I pull up all the team picks? Let's go, let's go. What do we got here? Here, Jet. So what do we got? What are we looking to walk away with? And they're not giving me, okay, here we go. We have first, second. Third from the Giants. Yeah, I'm sorry. We have no third. We have no third. Sorry. Oh We have no third. We have first round 11 second round 16 Alright, sorry round three. I'm getting confused. Yeah, we shot the giant. We shot the giant We have their pick and then we have another round three then we have four five six and then seven We have a sorry six six and then we've no seven. We have we have Casey's six Yeah, that's not bad. Sure move around those two third round picks will be beneficial if we wanted to get back up into the second somewhere and Yeah, that look that Leonard Williams thing is is seemingly working out great. You know, we would not have resigned him this offseason. And we have the basically the compensatory pick. We're going to get two years in a row because here we got the third round pick and it's the beginning of the round, which is awesome. And then next year, because the Giants will, I assume, have resigned him. I think they franchised them. We'll get their fourth round pick next year. All right, so what do you open the walk away with? So you already said in the first round, I'm just going to say three starting players. How about that? In what positions? Offensive line. Definitely. At least one. a some semblance of a skill position player. So a receiver, probably. And I could see us getting a starting. I know it's going to make you crazy, but a defensive lineman of sorts
00 Jake: that'll just be more of like maybe a rusher, like an edge style guy that they might go for it by position. We just can't. I know. You got to keep trying, though. You got to keep trying. You know those guys are game wreckers their game records if you could get a guy that's just constantly putting pressure on a quarterback They got to be double-teamed. You got to like account for that or game plan it I feel like there's no There's no one on the Jets defense outside of maybe Jamal Adams that you have to game plan for whatsoever All right, so no one thought what Chris there's no one you're worried about double teaming like who you double teaming When you talk, when you, when you talk, when you talk, the Rams, the Rams like to He was the first round pick of Baltimore like four or five years ago. He flamed out in Baltimore. Um, and then he landed with the box last year and towards the end of the season with the box. He put up, I think he put up like three or four straight or five straight games at the very end of the season that were just like, Whoa, this guy is living up to his potential in, you know, in the proper offense. And that offense was. It was Bruce Aarons offense, obviously, which is different. But if you look at last year, he actually had a really good end of the year last year for Tampa. Sure. But we still need a wide receiver somewhere. In tight end, you happy with Brown, Griffin, Herndon, Travis, and Westco as your tight ends? Herndon, yes? Yeah, I see no reason. I see no reason why that's a problem. You know, the the we have two guys that are totally stardears in in what's his face coming back Herndon and then Griffin. Griffin, thank you. So Griffin had a good year last year until he got hurt. I think that the same can be said, I think, when Herndon comes back, he'll have... That's an added weapon that was really missing from the team last year. We're happy with safety, Adams, May, and then... And the bunch of just nothing guys. But so Adams, trade or keep? No, keep. I think he's, I actually think there are there are once in a lifetime characters and he's a once in a lifetimeer and just keep him.
01 Jake: Keep him. He's a leader. He's a leader. And he's a good and he's as good as he is a leader. Like he's as good as a leader as he is a player. Sign up. That's right. And by the way, he does things that no safeties do like. you know, lead the team in sacks or Right. You know, running back, running back. You got you got the Bell Cannon mix. Right. And then you got Dixon Moore and Josh Adams. Josh Adams. Yeah. Not much. I mean, I don't really care if you have Bell and then Cannon. That seems. Fine enough for me, but it's gonna be Josh Adams is better than most people think He snagged him from Philly last year. Joe Douglas obviously knows him and And knows what he's all about. So I think you happy you happy it you're happy a quarterback I mean quarter, but you're not quarterback, but you're not happy with the backup I mean, I'm unhappy with the backup because Sam hasn't played 16 games. That's what I could see Sam play 16 games. Then it really doesn't matter to me. I don't think David Fails should be the backup. Like who is it right now? Who is the backup right now? Right this minute. It's Mike White. Who's on the roster? Yeah, like we need to go. They need to go after the draft and after all this stuff, they need to go find that. Basically, that Trevor Simeon style guy, that veteran who's not veteran journey, veteran, not starter. But you come in and help angry if Fitz came back. No, actually, I think Fitz is the right. That's the right mold, but Fitz doesn't have the right mentality for it because he thinks he's a starter. If Josh McCown came back, I'd be fine with it, honestly. All right, linebacker. Yeah, but he was just terrible. That was just that was their big mistake last year that that should have been their backup. So we got Williamson, Moseley, you got Louvoo, you got Jenkins, Hewitt, got a bunch of linebackers. This is how they're pretty stacked at linebacker, actually. And you got Cashman, who I think is... When you think about inside linebackers, you have Mosley, Williamson, Burgess, Hewitt, and Cashman, that's five inside linebackers. One of those guys is gone. Ficcan, you're happy with Ficcan? Or we're gonna play out that. There should be a competition there. I mean, we have one guy listed as defensive end, but all right, we already know that. All right. So for the. Happy with Anderson, Fuducasi, Franklin Myers, Kefusi, McClendon, Phillips, and Ray and Shepherd and Quinn and Williams. I think it happened there. I'm happy with the Quinn and Shepherd and Williams. Actually, if you watch some of the film, And Harry Anderson.
00 Jake: Which I've been watching. The line's pretty good towards the end of the year. Now, they don't, they don't necessarily get to the quarterback so much, but they disrupt things up front. So that line was pretty good last year towards, especially towards the middle end of the year. They were good at stopping the run. I see no reason why. that line can continue to be very good with Quinn and Williams stepping up. That's a key. Like Quinn and Williams has to be a number three overall pick. Like, come on, man. It's time for that to happen. Like, don't be Leonard Williams. Be Quinn and Williams. And then corner. So you got Austin, Kyron Brown, Pierre de Cerve, Nate Harrison, Brian Poole. That's it. Definitely corner talent. Arthur Malat. Yeah, it's not on the roster yet. Yeah, they'll need another corner for sure. They definitely will. I mean, they have, I think they have the starters there. I think it's Millett, I think it's Austin and I, it's those three, they always get hurt. That's why they signed to Sier. He was a starter for the Colts. Nate Harrison stinks. Would you be unhappy to re-sign Montgomery? Would I be unhappy? Depends on which money they gave him. It's a one year. One year, $2 million deal. Sure, that'd be fine. Who cares? He's a who cares for me. Yeah, Adam Gates never figured out what to do with him properly because he had wide receiver skills and he never put the like, like legitimately, he could have had Powell, Bell and Montgomery on the field at the same exact time. Yep. And run some really cool shit with the three of them on the field. And he never did it once. It's interesting. So let's let's do a little bit. So kind of going back to the five minutes. So yeah, five minutes. I'm a little concerned because we've been watching this world sort of change. I'm a little concerned, you know, that the Jets have not triggered the payments for season tickets yet. They have delayed and delayed. We have been, we've seen cancellations of events through May, June, July, races, concerts, I've seen canceled all the way up through July. What could this NFL look like this year? If this isn't under control, are we looking at a fanless NFL? Could they do that? I mean, you're talking about the stupid football season, which, by the way, still baseball, but they're talking about doing a dome, enter the freedom to atmosphere. Yeah, sure. You know, I'd be totally down with a with a spectator less.
05 Jake: Um, experience if it's made for TV, I'm fine with that. I think that they should get creative with it and make it better. Like, here's your chance. There's no fans. You've got to kind of fill some of. you know, the the broadcast, maybe you mic some more people. Maybe you have farmers in different places that are looking at interesting things. I know what those things are, but I'm sure that there are things that are really interesting going on on the sidelines, or maybe, I don't know somewhere else that that would be interesting. I could see it being a very different product that more use. We are more ability to Justin: hopefully they would make Jake: Yeah, you know, like maybe this is an opportunity to make the the experience better from home, even though the experience from home has always been pretty darn good. Maybe it's an it's an opportunity to make the experience in the stadium a little bit better by rethinking it with no one there. But I think that I think that they're going to have to go that route. Either way, I cannot see, I cannot see teams even selling half of the tickets for their stadiums. I just can't see people going. So I will tell you as a fan, like, this is the first time in many years that I had the double whammy of... Wow, I've been doing this for 16 years now. This isn't taking hold of 16 years and I've been going to games and I go to a crap ton of games. I go to games that are terrible. I go to games that are good. I go in bad weather and good weather. I tend to go to eight to 10 games a year as well as way games. This first year I thought, man, is this the year I should give it up? Like, should I not go? Part of me is like, well. I support my team, so I should just buy the tickets, whether I'm going to go or not go. But then if I can't go, what are they going to do? I mean, how is that going to be? Like, how are they going to sell me a ticket if I actually can't go to the game? I don't know. And I'm deeply concerned that this will, like, there are some things that just won't return to normal. Like, I just think there are some things that you hit. There's a new norm, and the new norm is, is not 80,000 people in a stadium anymore. And what does that look like? And, and I'm talking this year, I'm talking about this year, the year after this and the year after that, what does that look like? What do we look like if if if sports becomes this thing, you know, again, we talked about e sports, I said, I don't know if I said on this podcast, but the NFL should have been looking into e sports for the NFL for the last five years. And wouldn't that be a thing if this year they rolled out because they can't play they rolled out some sort of e-sport version of the NFL where the best of the best play Madden. I don't know. I don't think this is just an NFL thing that they have as a property that they could put on TV
02 Jake: for us. Go ahead and make your prediction just so you can get it in the book. What? What prediction? Oh, you're pretty well, I'll give it to you then. Your prediction is that it's the Jets win the Super Bowl in a. All right. Well, didn't you remember it, doofus? Well, I forgot what you're talking about. All right. Here's my prediction. We're playing the season. It's happening. It's totally happening. We can't not do it because it's football and. No fans are going to be allowed. Right. Guaranteed. Not happening. And the Jets are totally going to win the Super Bowl in an empty stadium. In wherever it is this year. Right. In the biodome. So we won't be able to go. We won't be able to go. And we will never see them win again, by the way. This will be our only chance and we won't have a chance. We won't have seen them in person. They'll win. Totally watch it on TV and all that, but the confetti coming down on my face and my tears, that's not going to happen. That's my dream. I see it. I visualized the confetti coming down on me and I'm crying. And the jets, as the jets, this is the thing. I'll add your prediction to make it worse. They will then go back to it the next year and go back to normal. Whoever wins next year going forward and they will always refer to this as the. As the whatever year and it didn't really count right so matter what the right no it'll be an asterisk will be well the just one but i win because you know i was there and. I didn't get rings. Because they'll give them rings, but it's just like... Yeah, it's a decoder ring from... It'll always be a thing like, well, they won, but did they really? Who really wins when there's no one there? No one won. No one won. You know, it'll be the real shame is no fans, they'll go win the Super Bowl and then they'll... double the prices for season tickets. Then nobody will go. They're going to drop tickets. Ticket prices are going to be like, oh, you want to go to the game? Here's a dollar. Please. We'll pay you to come to the stadium. And you get a free mask with the Jets logo. Well, I would I would absolutely I would absolutely, absolutely love to go on a New York Yankees rant right now. We're not going to this very podcast, but I know. But we just don't have time for it. Maybe next time. Yes, we got two minutes to get to our next thing. All right. Well, there you go. There's your podcast of the year, CN 2021. It's Jake and Justin saying, let's go, Jess. Thanks for watching!
