25 Jake: Welcome to the Jet Kingdom podcast. I'm still running New York Jets podcast period. I'm chewing on some popcorn. Joined today by a podcasting studio by a very first time ever, not 200 and 200 and 200 and 200 and 200 and 200 and 200 and 200 and 200 and 200 and 200 and 200 and 200 and 200 and Thank you. and I was going to say your last name but we've done that a couple of times. Justin: You know, I thought you were going to introduce me to someone else. Someone a little more important. I was going to try to impersonate them and it was going to be terrible. Dorell Reavis? Yeah, it was going to be bad. You were going to try to imitate Dorell Reavis? What are you going to imitate? It would have been... it probably would have been really bad. I could have said Farskye would have gone, can't wait. It would have just been bad. They can't stop a nosebleed. It would have been terrible. By the way, I just to started. Collision low crossers. Oh the book. Yeah, that's too bad cuz I was gonna buy that for you as a gift, but I win Like two years. I know but I was gonna buy it for you any day now. I was gonna buy it for you as a gift and Now you just told me not to yeah, you can save your Jake: 799. Was it good? I'm just starting it. I heard it's like really good. Justin: It's very in depth. They get really deep. They get balls deep into jets. I have owned it for over a year, Jake: because a friend of mine sent it to me, didn't give it to me, because clearly he didn't, and said, you gotta buy this. I bought it. And the thing with me and the jets is that... Jake and the jets. Jake and the jets! When there's, when, like, I'm happy about the team, I'm okay reading about the team, and even their past, like... problems, but when I'm unhappy about the team aka all that season Justin: I'm I'm less than happy to to read about the team does that make sense like of course everybody wants content when they're in A good mood nobody wants content when they are like, you know, right shit burgers, right? So it just so happens that this what we're gonna talk about today is happening, Jake: and I felt good about the return of Mr. Rivas. And so I was like, okay, I can start the book now, because he's in it, and talks a lot, and it's also a lot about Rex. And so like, I'm just- Justin: Yeah, that's what I thought it was more about Rex and his coaching staff and stuff. Yeah, so it's kinda tough because he's gone, because I should've read it before he left. But he lives on in our opening theme. Jake: Yes, so there. So there. We'll make that, we'll make that. I don't want to what no Justin: Bill no, he's a ghost you can't do that. I like I like the bill the bill said hey, so we have an agenda
02 Justin: Agendist we's actually gonna get to the jet stuff a Little bit after we talk a little bit more and our last podcast. Holy shit. It was over a month ago Holy shit, we have much to do Free agency was a big one. So we're going to talk about the crazy batshit craziness that started this week on Tuesday and a little bit before Tuesday with some of the trades and stuff. Well, some of the trades. We'll talk about the Jets free agency. Wait, are you taking my job? I'm taking it. All right. And then we'll move on to the AFC East and some of the bigger and it moves that. people have made within the AFC so we're doing it's been shaking crazy shit then Jats then AFC east and some of the batshit crazy stuff has happened in the AFC so we'll wait for that to happen a little bit okay let's do it let's go for it so free agency was crazy huh that was a crazy Tuesday don't do this that was a really crazy day it was I mean, four o'clock hit and within five minutes there were three trades. Jake: When does that happen? It was insane, it was insane. And honestly, I was working a lot that day, so I wasn't even really being able to pay attention, like fully pay attention. I wasn't one of those guys at work like hitting refresh on RotoWire, like other people we know. And so, like, they were hitting, and people were just telling me, and I was getting, I have a Teamstream app on my iPhone that sends me, like, I guess, big breaking and Jets news. So when everything happens to Jets, I get it. But, like, then it was just. Justin: Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. Yeah, not those. So let's talk about some of the big ones. So, Jimmy Graham goes to Seattle. Jake: Well, I'm surprised you're not starting with McCoy to. I'm leaving that because it's an A F C E. Sorry, sorry, sorry. Justin: Okay. I had a whole thing going. Graham to Seattle. Seattle gives back their first in a probable center. And Max Unger. Yeah. And they get Graham and I think a fifth. Makes no sense to me. I don't, I do. From which way? I do not understand NFL trades. I just don't see how Jimmy Graham's value is that. I think because here's the thing, you know how they say things don't happen in a vacuum? Jake: Trades happen in a vacuum. Two teams need to work out something. They do what they need to do based on their- Oh, Raisysaw. So what do you think? Who won on that one? Winner, loser, chicken, dinner. Seattle won. Seattle won. Giving away a first round pick. Justin: The last pick in the first round or the second last pick. Whatever. Second round pick. And a Pro Bowl center? Who missed six or seven games this year? Ten games over the last two years? Jake: And they get a guy who is a game changer best, second best. Justin: Guess what? Yeah. Seattle went all the way to the Super Bowl last year with virtually no receiving options. Right. So now they add one of the better ones in the league. And if, and if I know the, I know this doesn't really work, but if you're sitting there on the one yard line. So you're gonna say it again, even though it doesn't really work.
01 Justin: It doesn't work because the whole game is different and everything is all the circumstances are different. But hey, what if Russell Wilson had the chance, if they wanted to throw there on that play to just throw the ball. up in the air to Jimmy Graham as opposed to throwing it to some fourth string receiver. Who will never play on the game ever again. Um, what a weapon. I've been hearing. Probably the best weapon that Russell Wilson's ever had from a pass catching perspective. Golden Tate was good. You know, Percy Hartman. But Graham's like, you know, elite at his position. Jake: I agree. I agree. See you next time. Bye. And then if I'm Saints, I'm getting rid of some money. Justin: Saints just dump salary and they get an extra first rounder. Again, that 31st pick to me is like useless. I'd rather have the 33rd pick. What's weird about this trade to me is this is like the Patriots and the Broncos trading. Jake: These are the guys. They don't like each other. Well, and they're and they're kind of battling each other. Justin: Like, so they both think they got better. But like, I think Seattle doesn't see New Orleans as a team that they're battling. New Orleans didn't even make the playoffs. Jake: Yeah, that's this year. I feel like they're the other opponent. Like they're the one if you don't want to go on the road to the other one's house. Justin: I don't want to go to Green Bay if I'm Seattle. I'm not thinking about New Orleans. Well, they can't stop a nose feed. They're stupid. Alright, so that's a good one. Let's talk about this other one. Hello, DeNada went to Detroit. Because Detroit was, you know, losing. Are we talking about this other one because they have C.E.s? They were losing. I mean, they've lost two interior alignment to free agency. And HelloD Nada, who I think is, you know, a little beyond his prime, but still a pretty good player. Still is traded for two mid-round picks. Jake: To know how far that Wilfork went, I don't know how old Nada and Wilfork are, but I think they're four or five years apart. And that how far Wilfork went in terms of being a... player, I feel like he's still got some years left. Justin: He's got some juice, he's still got some energy left. But that's an example of what happens when you have to pay a quarterback a lot of money. Right, you don't get to keep halo de nada. Right, but didn't Detroit just pay Stafford a lot of money? And they don't get to keep. Sue. And Dom again, Sue. But then they get not. Well, and Nama Kinsu would have made about $26 million this year for Detroit, not eight or nine. Jake: So that one's a good one. And then the, I think this is the craziest of all trades. I think on everybody's stance, I will see where you think who won. Philly and the Rams swap quarterbacks. Justin: Was there anything else involved in that? Yes, there were picks. Who got, someone got a second round pick out of this. I think, I think the Rams got an extra pick, a second rounder out of this, which means in the valuation Bradford was considered more valuable.
05 Justin: Then Fools. Then Fools. I don't see that in any way. I think these guys are basically equals. Both both unproven if anything I'd rather have foals cuz I'm yeah I'm more certain in the fact that I could maybe get 16 games out of the guy Yeah, I totally Bradford is a is a is like a paper mache quarterback. He's unbreakable He's had two ACLs and now he's going to an offense that requires the quarterback to like Go fast. Well, can we talk about all the other crazy Philly stuff? Philly guy. Jake: Philly's been pretty nuts. So let's talk about DeMarco Murray. Yeah. Let's talk about Ryan Matthews. Justin: So maybe it wasn't, well, did Ryan Matthews ever actually sign the contract? Oh, I thought he did. He didn't. They agreed. Oh, he never actually signed it and then they went and signed to Marco Murray And if I'm Brian Matthews, I don't think I'm signing that controls Matthews and Murray if that's your back to your busy backfield That's busy. That's like yeah, I mean Matthews isn't playing if that's right backfield, right? That's a lot, but everyone was killing chip Kelly and then he ends up with DiMarco Murray Feels and feels onzo so he feels good Seems right. I feel like he's trying to build up that defense. I Feel like he's trying to like I mean a trade McCoy and they get a really good inside linebacker for him. Jake: And they've re-signed Succes for two years. And that's a big deal. So he's a backup for another two years. Justin: Maybe he'll compete with Bradford. Jake: We'll see. That'd be a good competition, actually, I feel like. Yeah. I feel like almost Sanchez would win that. As much as I think he's a Succes. He's a year in the system and if you had told me when Sanchez and Bradford were both doing the same thing, Justin: like kind of, were they one year off from each other? One year off. Bradford's a year older. Like, yeah, even in those first two years, I think if you compared the two, I know one year Bradford had a really good year. He had a nice season. I mean, what they have in common is that they've both been coached. Really poorly by Schottenheimer They'll have the Schottenheimer stink on them. Well Bradford was DeMarco Murray's college roommate That's funny. So now they're on the same team. Yeah, maybe they'll get a lot out of each other Jake: I don't know. It'll be interesting to say I if it is a true competition whatever I Could see I could see Sanchez beating him out Justin: Hey, they they play the Jets in in New York this year. Yeah, that'd be fun if Sanchez was starting that game Oh, it would be fun. I'd have to wear my suck cheese Jersey That'd be a lot of fun. All right, let's talk about now some all the Jets Let's do one of the most active were so we're doing so well holding out holding out right now. I feel like we're
02 Justin: We're like working towards an orgasm, but we're holding off. We're thinking of like baseball statistics. Like we're doing a really good job right now of keeping the tempo steady. You know, it's keeping me from looking at me, keeping the tempo steady, not blowing our wad. Like just steady. No big company. No, no, no, no. So let's talk about the guys we re-signed first. Okay. We re-signed David Harris. Yup. People are saying not a great move. They're saying we paid too much for him. Paid a little much. Didn't give us the hometown discount. Whatever. I like David Harris. I think he's really good. Every down linebacker doesn't miss games Jake: First of all, I'm before we talk about all the things what this free agency looks like to me Like if I'm a outsider is a large fucking finger up against somewhere up in Buffalo like Fuck you Rex! Justin: It has nothing to do with him. We basically took every player that he loved and or could have wanted and took him. It has nothing to do with him. Jake: I know, I know, but doesn't it feel like that? Justin: Doesn't it feel like a fuck you Rex? No, it doesn't. It feels like a, we need, we have a lot of money. We need to make our team better. Let's spend it the right way. Right. And then they spent it. So Harris is back. I think that's good. Blau Powell's back, cheap. One year. Cologne's back, cheap. One year. Okay, fine. Jake: Macomb was just, Macomb we released, and I think we gave him like two weeks out there. Well, I guess two weeks of un, so he didn't get picked up in the first whatever week of free agency. Well, he could have been signed. Yeah, he could have been signed weeks ago. Justin: Well, if we caught him, I don't think. I think we did cut him. Jake: Oh, okay. We didn't put a thing on him. All right. Well. Well. You're gonna go to the, now you're gonna- Justin: Now there's the noobs. The noobs. Jake: So fucking weird. Dare you call it noobs. Well let's start with the, let's not start with the big one first. Let's go- Well we made a trade. Yeah, let's start with that one. Justin: So we got Brandon Marshall. I mean- I'm pumped. Jake: If you had just said that was our off season, Justin: I would be like, we did well. I'm excited, we have a big- Big time, a big big time receiver on the outside who can go deep, who can go over the middle, who can play in the slot, who can play on the outside, who can short, go up, jump balls in the end zone. He's definitely on the bell curve. He's definitely not on the upside of his career. No, no, no. He's definitely on the downside and downswing. He had a bad year last year with the injuries. He's never really been an injury guy, so I'm not really worried about that. Very excited about having a real target here and allowing Decker to fall back into the natural 1A number two receiver and really have like a good 1.2. Right, this feels like a good one too. This feels like a 1.2 combo. Both big.
01 Justin: And if you look back at the, this is one of the things that we're talking about, all of the jets, free agent. Jake: Wide receiver signings like you know the homes the Justin: Now I'm forgetting all of them we haven't done any free agent receiver signings Jake: Well when we brought I'm saying when we brought in a free agent from the outside, you know someone a Trade or whatever we brought in one right on Edwards Edwards Justin: Cole's we drafted liver in a school and we bring them back But we drafted him. Right. Just another one. We drafted a lot of the receivers that have played for the Jets over the last bunch of years. Drafted him. Jake: Oh, and then um... Uh... Kottry drafted. Not Kottry. The uh... Plaxico. So it's been not- Justin: Plasko's in jail for like two years. Jake: I'm just saying it's not been the greatest- Oh and then Decker. And Decker. So it hasn't been the greatest history of bringing in guys that like off the street and like having good luck with them. And you look at someone like Giants who just went and just found gold like sitting on the doorstep. Justin: So it's kind of like, you know, is this type of thing that works or not? Anybody who drafted a receiver last year, except for the Jets, did pretty well. And we drafted like three. Three. All in the way it sucked. Well, one was on the practice squad almost the entire season. I think he finally played in like the last game. One got cut and the other was on IR the whole season. Shaq. Shaq Evans. Can't wait to see what he can do. He's supposed to be a speed guy. Whatever. So we got Brandon Marshall for a fifth round pick and we got Brandon Marshall with a seventh coming back. Jake: So on a scale of one, one to 10, let's just do the scales one to 10. So you have one, 10, 10 being the greatest thing that ever happened. Justin: I wanna get a baseline from you. Right, because I have to reserve. Jake: I have to reserve my 10. Justin: Bart Scott was a really good pickup for the Jets. He like, legitimized them. I put him at like an eight. So I just wanna know where your scale is. Really, really like a good pickup. So Brandon Marshall as a... I think he's right there. I mean, obviously we're talking like, you know, I have hindsight with the Bart Scott signing, although it looked right at the time, too. Jake: No, it was a massive, it was a nine on paper at the time. Yeah, so... And he worked out to be a seven or eight. Justin: Same deal here. I think Brandon Marshall's is a solid eight on the scale of Obviously, we're ranking to ten right not to eleven not to let us wondering well you can go to eleven on one of these, okay? Let's do the other trade fits for conditional next year for conditional We don't even know what the conditions are and we can presume it's playing time or maybe like
02 Justin: win the Super Bowl or something. Probably gonna end up being a sixth or seventh round pick. They're gonna end up owing us a pick. So, whatever. I was talking to someone else, another Jet Fam friend of mine yesterday, and... That means you have two friends. Pretty much. And I was actually talking to one of my... friends who's a Bills fan and the Bills fan buddy of mine was like you're gonna love fits and I was like I don't know I've seen him play he's pretty shitty uh he's like no no no if you ! give him time he'll pick a team apart and I'm like yeah he's a loser he's like he just never has ever won so Okay, so right now, because I'm the interviewee- Hey, good backup. Jake: No, no, I'm the interviewer right now. Yeah. You're going in. This is it. I'm going in. You're going into the season, week one. Oh, okay, week one. And the guys you got are the guys you got. Right now. There's no one else coming in. So that's it. We didn't draft anybody. Justin: It's Gino, Matt Sims, and Ryan Fitzpatrick. What do you want to start, Gino? Okay. And why? Because I know what Ryan Fitzpatrick is 100%. I've seen ten years of shit with Gino I've seen two years of shit and I'd like- one nice game. make Jake: make make You would've said Mike Vick. So you're Justin: but now I've seen that I saw what Vick did in the game in the game. And this is which we'll get to, in a a- and to He fumbles a lot. You know,, but you know who's not fit. He doesn't turn the ball over. Okay, but you want Gino to start. I do because of the potential. Even though he'll, he'll throw three picks a game. Then no. Well, that's true. You're saying you want the guy who you- Jake: You want the guy who we have never seen play. You want the dream? I want the college Gino. Justin: I want the 40 touchdown six interceptions in a spread offense Gino. Jake: OK. All right, so let's talk. Let's we're R I'm gonna work my way up to the big one. Justin: Let's talk. What's the big one?
00 Justin: Really? So let's go, uh, I think this is one in James Carpenter. James Carpenter. Card from Seattle, underachiever. Second year in a row, we're picking up Seattle's... Offensive. Offensive lineman? Sure. Does that seem right? It is the second year in a row. Yeah. We have a picked up a Seattle offensive lineman. I don't think this guy was a starter though. Okay. I don't think. I think this is depth competition. If you think about it, we have now four guards for two spots. One of them will probably get cut in the in the preseason. You're not going to carry cologne, carpenter And then also, well, no, Jacka Minis, the right tackle, but then winter and whoever. And yeah, Bushy Bush. I don't think you're going to carry all four of those guys. I don't think any one of them, unless Carpenter can slide and play center. If he had to, I don't know enough about him. Right. I don't think a Bushy can and I don't think winter can. And I know Cologne can't so. One of these guys is gonna be cut of the four that we just talked about. Jake: James Carpenter. Justin: Give me a rating, one to ten. I don't know, this guy. Four. I really don't know the guy. Maybe he's really good, but I can't imagine if he's any good. Buster screen. Buster screen. Looking like better and better as these days go by that this was a nice pickup. because he's a guy who's gonna play in the slot. Now he's the number three corner. Well, we'll talk about our corner situation in. This is the number three, I think. Fourth or fifth rounder plays in slot for the Kem play, but not bad. Has played across from Hayden in the last bunch of years and Cleveland drafted a guy in the first round last year so it's kind of made... It's kind of made... Um, you know, they didn't want to pay another guy. So made him expendable. I liked the pickup. I like one to 10. Um, six, six. I, I, I read that, um, last year in Arizona where bulls was obviously the defensive coordinator, they played. The percentage of plays in out of the dime In order to do that you know we have went to town on the defense back market yeah let's do Marcus Gilcrest I don't know enough about Marcus Gilcrest on the surface I'm not sure I really love this he's he's supposed to be very versatile. So he played
03 Justin: The second most snaps for the San Diego defense last year behind What's his face the other safety And he played in the slot like covering as like a corner some free safety He's a natural strong and That's kinda was what I would wish the the Jake: 26 year old kid, so this is not like a, you know, this is not a has-been. He was considered one of the best in the 2011 draft. He was a cornerback prospect now, actually playing safety. Let's go... All right, we'll work ourselves up to the second. This is, again, these are all not done in order, obviously, but Crow. So. Crow is back. Oh wait, so give me a Gilcrest, zero to ten. I'm gonna go with another six, okay? I'm not disagreeing on any of these so far. Crow, Camardi. Played with Todd Bowles, know the guy very well when he left. our building, we felt he was sort of kind of at the end. He kind of rebounded last year, so he's only played one year away, right? Justin: One year. With bowls. Right. So in the system that presumably will be installed here. Right. And you can make the... You You can kind of draw the parallel Um Between Uh Him playing across from Peterson And being the number two corner To Playing across from the guy who he's going to be playing across from this year We will not mention his name yet We already have I mean we will later Uh I don't know. So he flourished in that role and Apparently he was offered more money to go somewhere else and he turned it down He wanted to come play for the Jets again. He missed it. He wanted to come back last year, but You know, it's it didn't apparently want him. So
04 Justin: You know, I'm happy about having Crow back. I think we overpaid him, but, you know, the word is that someone else was offering him more money. Seems a lot to me because I feel like he's overpaid. But, you know, there are worse number two corners out there. That's for sure. I mean, all I know is last year we had guys signing off the street and starting that week. Yeah. That should not happen this year. 0 to 10. Jake: Hmm... Justin: 6 and a half. Jake: Yeah, I'm less intri- I'm- this is- this is lower than that for me. This feels a little bit like... I just don't see the upside of this. The one that we're gonna talk about, I see all sorts of upside and differences to it that make it a game changer. This one, I don't see that. I just see he's a corner. He's good. Justin: But when he left us, he was kind of the point where we had the hip. All right. He had the hip and it definitely slowed him down. Well, it's not like he was it's not like people like talked about him all last year is just dominating. No, because he's the number. He is a number two. Corner and in the system that we are going to run and in reality the system that we've been running for the last six years Corner is really important because we're gonna blitz the fuck out of people and there's gonna be Five or six DBs out there on every play and we're just gonna blitz the fuck out of everybody Jake: All right, and then to me it's a four. I'm not I'm not as excited about this and mainly because of what we're gonna talk about now. Justin: Before we talk about it. Because it feels a little bit like going back. Wait a minute. And not in the good way. The questions that come to my mind about this particular signing is. Are you talking about Crow? Yeah. We signed Buster's screen. Right. We have D. Milliner. Right drafted McDougal last year, right? So are those two guys just sort of considered? Busts at this point like McDougal never even got a shot Jake: McDougal was the one who was getting all the like hype in the training camp. I've even played Justin: Milliner was also injured most of the time last year. He finally came back and then blew out his Achilles But he's supposed to be ready for training camp Right, so do you go into training camp with like Milliner and and and McDougall as your like fourth and fifth corner? Yeah, when last year they were like one and two. Yeah to me. That's like yeah, you did good No, I can't just say this is a four no Jake: I because it's because that but you could have gotten somebody else on the market crow doesn't seem to me I just don't see the game-changingness of it Justin: Other than the one let's go to the one you mean Dorell Rebus. Dorell Rebus. You mean number 24 Freeman McNeil Jake: I mean Dorell Rebus. So let's just first of all talk about how you're a terrible Jets fan. I'm a great Jets fan because
06 Jake: A as this was happening all day long and we were both excited about it. You just kept saying He's gonna break our heart. It's not gonna happen. Yeah, I was being I was being a guest fan a terrible No, I was being an old-school guy like no Justin: No, no, I was doing I was doing the reverse psychology Jake: I was doing the reverse psychology. No, that's not the way you are Justin: I was getting ready for the Patriots to break our heart again, and I was just bracing myself for it and thank you know what thank god he won that ring last year because otherwise i don't think this would have happened no i don't think so at all so great i will take a patriot super bowl victory sad as the sounds to have my guy back so and that's how crazy it is he went and played and won a super bowl with the patriots and i am so happy that he is back Jake: I don't even care. I will tell you so I was talking to my dad. It's my dad's a Patriots fan I don't talk about my dad a lot, but anyway, he's a Patriots fan We're talking about this and he's and obviously so wicked piss off They were they're not happy like the Patriots nation is really they're not happy. They're not happy I wonder why and the one thing that I was saying to him was Because I'm ill I am Let me just let me just my feelings about this I have never been so happy about something that happened to the Jets other than the winning the Patriots that year. Getting the AFC championships. Like this is up there with one of the pinnacle moments that I've ever been a Jets fan. I am extremely happy. And here's why. . This is weird, sad, whatever. He represents the Jets. When he left, I felt like a piece of my love of the Jets and my feelings left with him. He was our guy. We adored him. He was Rebus Island. He like personified the Jets for so long that losing him felt terrible. We all kind of said, well, you know, he's going, he's hurt and whatever and whatever. And we got save some money. Justin: But the back of it, we were, all upset about it as Jake: as well as anybody could work it. He's going to set this, not only is he one of the best corners to ever play the game, but he has worked the system better than anybody else probably has ever worked it. Justin: To make guaranteed money. Jake: Yeah, he's been paid 84 million dollars. Justin: Garen, like he makes quarterback money. Yeah, he is amazing at that. He just works it correctly. Well, let me talk about it. Jake: So we were talking about it and I said... I think if given money money, literally same money,
01 Jake: so we can't ever do this because we don't know, we offered him about $4 million more total. Guaranteed. Guaranteed than the Patriots. So he did have a, theres more money there, and again, he mostly goes for the money. But I feel like, it measures me just convincing myself, that Reavis chose the Jets with money as one piece of it, but as. as respect and history and where he wants to leave his legacy as another piece to this. Here's why. You play on New England's team right now, right? Rivas, he's four. Tom Brady. Bill Belichick. Gronk. than maybe Rivas, as like the guy you think about when you think about the Patriots. And their legacy and their history is in the books, right? We have two Hall of Famers and probably a third Hall of Famer right there. You take Rivas, you put him back on the Jets, the team that drafted him, the team he played for, the team that... whatever. And he's writing a new history... . the franchise guy. He's the face of the New York Jets. He's the guy who, when he goes to Canton and this all works out, you know, in the next three, four years, and he stays and doesn't go off somewhere else in five years, and I'm hoping he does the champ Bailey thing, right? Where he just five years and maybe gets old and slow, but we love him and he retires and becomes a, you know, Hall of Famer. He's the face of the franchise now. Because it ain't a quarterback, it ain't a running back, it ain't a tight end. You know, other than Mangold at this point, like he's the guy. And that to me means so much more than anything else at this moment. I can't tell you. Like that our guy who we like, who is the face of our franchise is back. Justin: I need to buy a New Jersey. Do you get rid of your Revas? Oh yeah. Jake: You're an idiot. Justin: That's not an idiot. That's a... I'm getting rid of this. No, I didn't get rid of it because I knew there was a chance he could come back. I got rid of it after he... Last year when he went to the Pats. I kept it and then he went to the Pats and I said, fuck this. I don't want this jersey. I don't want to look at it. Oh yeah. I had a Revas t-shirt. Yeah. Got rid of that. Had a Revas jersey. See? Got rid of that. So how do you feel? I just had how I feel. This is an 11 or a 12 or whatever. This feels fantastic. I feel like we're winning a game. I feel like we now have the blueprint once again for how we were successful. in making long pushes into the playoffs. I mean, there's no reason why now, and this sounds crazy, and it's before the draft, and all the free agency stuff shakes out, but to me, there's no reason why we shouldn't think that we're going to make the playoffs. When I look at this team with this talent...
02 Justin: There's so much talent on the defensive side of the ball. It's ridiculous. And it's built for today's NFL on the defensive side to stop the passing game. I mean, you have Reeva someone, whoever the best receiver is on the other team is not gonna touch the ball. Right. And then when you have the rest of these guys out there, I mean... We're pretty solid in different areas. And I mean, again, you're not even thinking about like, you know, our first round pick last year and prior and the first round pick year, two years, three years ago and with, with Milner. And then you're not even talking about like Wilkerson and Richardson and snacks up front, like wanna run, try it. Wanna throw, enjoy. Right. So I feel like- I mean, we all know what the missing piece is. Want to score points? Oh, you can't do that. Can't do it. So I am hoping that we can somehow figure out a way to replicate what we were able to do in 2009, 2010. So I asked you this question. Sorry, I'm cutting you off. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jake: I asked you this question and you said no. But I'm going to ask you again on air. Okay. Give up your first round pick. Yeah. For Drew Brees. right now to come to your team. Justin: To winning? It's a t- First round! I know you can get a really good impact player For not like... For nothing! Jake: But what does this team need? Needs a quarterback! Justin: I get it! We're never gonna win a game! You might be able to draft one! Jake: Ahhh! Justin: How many times do you keep going back to that well? Well... Once in the last couple years twice in the cut last couple years. Gina was a second round pick. I mean, that's whatever Jake: Yeah, it's whatever Taj Boyd's on the sealers Boyd is garbage. He's on the Steelers garbage So you're seriously selling so is there a quarterback out that you'd give a first right now? Justin: Yeah, there's a few name them Russell Wilson, okay Aaron Rodgers, okay Jake: Andrew luck name a quarterback who hasn't won a Super Bowl Andrew luck Okay, but like someone like Kaepernick. Would you give a first round for Kaepernick right now fucking chance really no Justin: Fucking way. I think you're insane Jake: He's not that good! He's better than anything that's coming out of this draft class. And he's better than fits and he's better than- Justin: And he makes $100 million, and he's not that good. So it's about money for you. Well, that definitely has to be figured into it, doesn't it?
01 Justin: No. We need a quarter better. All things are not equal when it comes to that. Like, that's why I'd rather have Russell Wilson on my team. then Colin Kaepernick. A, he's better and B, he makes a fraction of the dollars. Right, but Aaron Rodgers makes a shit ton of money. Yeah, that's why when you say, who would you start your team with? Jake: By the way, Andrew Walk is gonna make a shit ton of money. Justin: Yep, he does. He will. I mean, there are definitely guys that would definitely say, yeah, I'll give him my first round pick for that guy. Jake: Here's what I'm concerned at already as a jet fan down from my highs of getting Rebus back. You're ridiculous. That we're going to build an incredible defense once again with a credible off the street defensive minded coach. But then once again we're not going to have a franchise quarterback to close the deal. So we'll be able to get to the playoffs win a couple games We might even get back to the championship again, but if we don't have a franchise quarterback Justin: We ain't winning Super Bowls. Look how close that they've gotten in the past with that formula But do you want to get close again? I'd rather be close than go four and twelve You'd rather get close, but never win because we can't have a franchise quarterback. I feel like we could have won either of those games that we were playing. Oh, not the Steelers game. We were getting crushed. I understand, but we only lost because we... Jake: They left. They picked up... They literally... And that was the Sanchez game. Justin: But we lost 24-19. The Steelers get the... But wait, they were winning like 24-nothing in half and they didn't score again. Yeah. They didn't even, they just gave up. They didn't give up. They really didn't give up. Jake: I was at that game, trust me, at halftime, it was like, this game is over. Justin: I stayed because I don't leave games, but. Do you know what's awesome? You know. They're having this discussion. Yeah. That's awesome. And, you know, Peyton Manning, you know, he's great. But when it comes down to it, how many Super Bowls does that guy want? He has won! Who do you care? Do you want one? I'm just saying like, dude, dude. I will take the guy who loses three Super Bowls if he gets me one. I mean, would it be more fun to have the regular season like Peyton Manning guy? Yeah, of course it would. I'm just a little might kidding. But I mean, I don't know if Drew Brees is that guy right now. He slipped a little last year. He's old. I don't know if he's like worth the first round pick. You got to pay him more than $20 million a year. It's a lot of money. Jake: But don't you feel like this team is now this is all paper and I know I'm just paper talking paper champions. Justin: We won there's lots of things that are and Aaron Rodgers away from winning a Super Bowl But then the tons of them but they need the air modules to win. Yeah, there's lots of those You could take every team that didn't make the playoffs last year and say hey if you had Aaron Rodgers
04 Justin: You'd probably win now. That's not you Really shitty things out there pretty pretty fucking close But don't you feel that we need a franchise quarterback and this idea of yes, but I don't I don't feel like you need to trade your first round pick for them. That's not how you do it. I feel like you have to draft. It's what the Eagles think they just did. I think you have to draft. OK. I feel as though when you look around the league and you say, all right, who are the franchise quarterbacks around the league? 9 out of 10 times that team drafted the guy. And if they didn't draft him, they signed him in free agency because of some fluky, weird thing, usually injury related. And Drew Brees is one of those guys. And he is the injury related fluky, freaky reason why he was gone was injury related. Same thing with Peyton Manning. It was like this guy had four neck surgeries and the team let him go because they were able to draft Andrew Luck. Otherwise they weren't letting him go. You look around the league though, it's like, alright, who are the franchise guys? Brady? Hmm, drafted. And Rodgers? Drafted. Right? I mean, you keep going. I'm adding one, two Super Bowls. Drafted. Jake: Phil Rivers? Drafted. Justin: They're all drafted by their teams. It's kind of how you have to do it. You can't just go and... First off, none of them become free agents because their teams wrap them up because they drafted them. And you don't really see a lot of guys getting traded around. I mean, Fav, because he wore out his welcome. Jake: Yeah, but then he went to two NFC championships with the Vikings, didn't he? He went to one. One? Didn't he go to one deep good year? Justin: He went to one good year. Nope. He played three years after he left Green Bay, one with the Jets where he fucked us over Yeah, cuz he wouldn't admit he had an injury, had one really good season in Minnesota Went to the championship And, and fucking choked and blew the game And then he had a shit year where he was injured and just, it was apparent, this guy's done You have to draft them. You can't trade for guys. It's just not the way it works. Jake: So then, and that thing, then here's what I'm saying. Then we go into the draft and we do anything we can to draft one of those two fucking quarterbacks. Because if you have to keep doing this, then keep doing it until you find one. I think you have to. Then that's it. Justin: Alright, so what else so Reavis is the greatest thing that ever happened. Well, we didn't even get to that AFC. Let's get to the AFCs Alright, well, who do you want to start with? What did I have here our biggest rivals now bills, right? So, okay. They made a big trade didn't they what the fuck is that? the phone ringing It's it's some guy named Judah. What are you calling here for fuck off, man?
01 Justin: Fuck you Judah. All right, so The the bills drafted. Oh, they didn't drop they traded for McCoy. Yes shady and then Kind of what I think is a stupid move They gave him an extension right didn't even make them play it pay it out Seems weird. Why is this phone ringing shut up phone? How do I know that's what's answering it? Well I answered hang up so They traded Kiko Alonzo, who was out all last year with an ACL, but the year before was second to Sheldon Richardson as the rookie of the year. And actually, in the NFL Top 100 players thing, finished ahead of him that year as a rookie. Yep. Oddly enough. So... And of course he played at Oregon. Yep. So the Eagles traded McCoy for Kiko Alonzo. Which when it happened it makes... And Rex got his running back. When it happened it looked stupid. Jake: Now if you said you went from McCoy to Mark O'Murray, I feel like... I feel like you got this, you didn't get the same player at all, but I don't think you got worse. Justin: You didn't really downgrade. No, you didn't downgrade. You didn't downgrade either though. Jake: I don't think you really upgraded. Justin: I don't think you really went anywhere. You know what you did get? A guy who just touched the ball more than 400 times last year. Jake: That's a lot of mileage. But there's a lot of saying that McCoy was on a downward slope and that was it. He was going down. Justin: Well, we'll see. We'll see for the next couple of years. All right. So they did that. That was a big move for them. They also resigned Jerry Hughes, the their defensive lineman. They gave Kyle. Will Kyle Williams. Now, is what? Big news about the bills quarterback. They got their franchise. Oh, they did Mac Castle. I mean he he he enjoyed throwing in the wind there That's not gonna work Rex once again stuck with you know Really good defense What is gonna probably be a really good running game and? Zilcho. Well then maybe he'll go to the Q-A-C Championships. Maybe. The Dolphins made a little noise. They signed in Darmakinsu. They also did someone else just the other day. Oh, Jordan Cameron. They signed the tight end Cameron. Yeah. Is Jordan Cameron or Cameron Jordan? It's Cameron Jordan. Jordan Cameron. I don't really care. It's Cameron Cameron Cameron. But the big one was in Darmakinsu, which was a little weird because it came out during that little... Tampering period, the legal tampering period. And then you didn't sign up for a day or two. And it was odd, it was like, why isn't he signed yet? Oh, it's official, he has signed. I read up a little bit on this. So he's 60 million guaranteed, like a hundred something million dollar contract.
01 Justin: But this year, I think like 10, nothing. It's like, it's like. It's like five million dollars. Really? Really. Next year's cap, it's like 26 or 27 million. Jesus, that's the year you get hurt. Next year's. I wonder if they have built in all the if you get suspended. It's all guaranteed. It's all there. There's a $15,000 workout bonus that could come off if he doesn't go to like the OTAs or something. But other than that. I mean it doesn't make a structure, you know you but doesn't look around with structure It does it doesn't make me happy to have I mean, this is Cameron wake and so that is some and Olivia Vernon on the other Side. Yeah, that is a scary defense. It's gonna be hard to play them stay. That is a scary Team to have to block, right? Legit legit like wake and sue if they're next to each other or if you decide like you know what? Vernon and sue will be next to each other and then because weight can handle his own on that side only thing I can say Jake: As a hope because I'm a jet span is that sue will do something stupid. Yeah, like step on Geno's face stupid Yeah, just gonna stupid and he'll be suspended for it cuz he's like on his one of his last tries He gets one more of these doing something, he's gotten two games I think, he's gotten one game. I think his next shot is like- He's paid like the $100,000 one. I think he's at like three or four games if he does the next one. Justin: Yeah, I feel like he's at the big situation. So if I were a jet offensive player- I'd be in his face. Jake: Oh, I'd be in his face. I'd be talking about his mama. Yeah, I'd be like, yo mama. I'd find his mama's name. No, I'd be like, her name is like, fuck yo mama. I fucked your mama last night up the ass. Yeah. Fuck yo mama. She screamed out my name. She got the biggest boosh. Oh man, it was terrible. There was seven boosh. She got the 70s boosh down there. Justin: It was corn boosh. 70s afro boosh down there. It was terrible. So did the Bills get better? Yeah, I do think they did get better. They got better. I think they did. Because their defense was already really good. It was already a strength of the team. So they were losing like a good linebacker. But last year they played without him and played pretty darn well it's gonna be a new system so it doesn't i don't think it really matters like alonzo alonzo knew it because he played that year with petton and played really well under petton so i think he would have been really good for the bills this year Think they got better, but again, I think through the money and I'm like I wouldn't want to pay a running back what they're paying right cuz we're like our kind of disposable at this point They're sort of Literally you draft a guy every year Jake: 16 pick them up and go to the Super Bowl with him you can yeah, so Finn's got better They dropped a lot of guys they dropped.wain clay Justin: Ellaby and Finnegan. Yeah, well, he retired. He retired. That's four dudes. Hey, how about this new trend of guys retiring early?
01 Justin: Like Jake Lockers, like 26, he retired. Patrick Willis retired before he was 30. He played eight seasons, seven of them. He was like a pro bowler, an all pro or something. Him and Jim Brown are the only two players to ever have that distinction. Is it a go out early, go out on top? I think it's a concussion thing. Just I don't want more concussions. I'm done. I'm aware of the fact that playing this game Hurts me? Could kill me. So I'm just gonna get out, take my money, and go with you. I made my money. I'm 30 year old man, and I'm just gonna live a nice life. It's kinda like you. Yeah, that'd be great. Pat's, they suck. Losers. Losers! They signed somebody. They signed a... you defensive end slash linebacker from the Browns Jake: Sheared or she this is what we expect. This is the only benefit to having them in the suit Justin: They lost browner. They lost three of this. They re-signed McCordie. Yeah, they did we sound they haven't done They signed Brandon Gibson from the Dolphins. Yeah for like a year whatever typical Pats one year receiver move They've gotten worse. They'll be fine. Yeah, that's the shitty part. Shitty parts, they'll be fine. But they definitely lost a lot of talent. Wilford gone. Jake: Well, again, you talked to Patsy Hands and Browner. Things like Revas were the reason they won the Super Bowl. Justin: Of course! Revas and Browner is better than ship bag and ship balls. Which is what they would normally have a corner. They don't have corners traditionally. Belichick doesn't care. Gina will throw to their corners. Yeah, he'll make Logan Ryan look good against the Jets. Jake: Alright kids, this is it for us. I don't know if we have anything else to discuss. If there's more news, if it gets crazier, if we feel like we didn't have enough, we'll come back. Drafts coming up in what? Two? End of... end of April. So we'll do a couple before the draft. Probably not like every week obviously, but a couple and if to keep you talking and look to see you back. As always, again, we're not gonna be back next week. So in a couple weeks, I feel like we'll be back a couple weeks. When it's necessary. When it's necessary. We're back, we're talking about the Jets. As always, Justin and Jake saying... Go Jets!
